Incredible books. I’ve posted about the first one before, but I finally got around to reading the sequel and I highly recommend both.

Rex is a Good Dog. Rex knows he is a Good Dog because when he follows Master’s orders, the feedback chip in his head tells him Good Dog.

Rex is a genetically engineered cyborg supersoldier furry Bioform who has been sent to “intervene” in a Mexican civil war by a shady American private military contractor.

And because it’s written by Adrian Tchaikovsky, of course there’s a swarm of sentient bugs. Her name is Bees. Bees is bees.

Estalian Tercio WIP

So with two boxes of Wargames Atlantic's Conquistadors, I have assembled what passes for an Estalian tercio. Using the Empire of Man army list, it is a 21 strong Mercenary unit of State Troopers with spears with full command group, backed up by a detachment of 10 State Troopers with swords and a detachment of 12 Missile State Troopers with crossbows.

I even had an armoured body left over to build a captain figure, the guy with the big hat who I gave bits from various Warlord Games Landsknecht sprues I have, and I've got six more lightly armoured bodies left over which I can use on the next batch of Estalians.

For anyone wanting to get it, it is a good kit but... take your time building it. Test and dry fitting is always a must since there are no instructions and no labelling of pieces. Also, as a word of warning: some of the sword blades are very weak so they can snap when being removed, same with the stirrups of the crossbows.

Now just comes the hardest step: painting them.

You live and learn. If you sound horrible live, you sound horrible on vinyl. Obviously ai was used. I knew ai was going to be used anyway. Come on, It's motley crue and everyone is doing it. The other 2 reasons why I avoided the song is because 1. It was released not that long after Mick dropped his record. That feels like an attack if you think about it, or I'm just overthinking. 2. This band has fallen from grace pretty hard. They still continue to destroy what is left. Overall, 75% of this band is full of assholes anyway. Even my aunt who used to listen to them as a kid said they were sick people and she regrets it.

I have to give them credit for trying to sound new. I mean no hate to Mr. 5, however you can NEVER replace Mick. I only wish him the best. Let's pray he can put up with them like Mick did.

worst part about Dogs of War and Bear Head is that the characters are fucking unsearchable

you see, they're all very *descriptive*, which objectively goes great with the tone of the books!

but the downside is that also means they're called things like "Dragon" and "Bees"

Condottiere for the tilean half of my dogs of war project. The base model is king Edward iv from perry miniatures with the sword clipped off and replaced with a pike. In hindsight I should've made the pike like twice as long, but I guess this makes him easier to pick up

What are your thoughts on the new Mötley crüe song

ive had a few days now to let it sink in so here’s my official review!

is it their best song ever? no. is it their worst song ever? hell no. its quite literally exactly what i expected. this band has nothing else to prove. they have an image that they’ve stuck to & they dont apologize for who they are, i.e: the music video. the video somehow gave me both walking dead & like GTA vibes…which i dont hate lmfao it was kinda fun! i liked the callbacks to generation swine w the pig heads. anyway back to the song. it gives me heavy SOLA vibes & i totally will be blasting it otw to & from work in my car. vinnie’s vocals (no matter how reverbed/tuned) SLAYED. ik its been polarizing lately without mick, but really i have nothing bad to say about the song i like it a lot.

Motley Crue - “Dogs Of War” Single

Hey, guess what? Motley Crue dropped a new song, their first in five years, and it’s most definitely a Motley Crue song. You can take that in one of two ways — this song is great, and you’re wrong if you don’t like it, or this is awful, especially when Motley Crue has been awful for years. Their last truly great album was 1989’s Dr. Feelgood, and even their 1994 album when Vince Neil left for a brief time wasn’t half bad, but it left a lot to be desired.

They did release the movie The Dirt back in 2018, I believe, and I enjoyed that movie quite a lot, as well as the book it’s based on, but the new songs they released with that movie were bad. The greatest hits aspect of the soundtrack was good, but the new songs left a lot to be desired. This new song, however, isn’t horrible, but I feel somewhere in the middle with this new track. It’s a Motley Crue song, so I guess it all depends on how you feel about them as to whether or not you’ll enjoy it.

This is all also interesting, because it’s the first song without founding guitarist Mick Mars, especially after his unceremonious exit a couple of years back (and releasing his own bad solo album earlier this year). Instead we have John 5 from White Zombie fame, and the sad thing is, you couldn’t really tell, because that main riff is so bland. This song sounds like it was written by AI as to what a Motley Crue song sounds like. It’s not the worst ever, but man, it’s so boring. What else can you expect from a band who should really lay themselves to rest at this point?
