Do dogs in your au ever bark or yip? Or do they mostly just talk like normal? :0
They mostly talk like normal, but sometimes some additional dog vocalizations slip in. I think unabashed barking or howling would be a little too obvious, but they might snarl a bit when angry, or maybe speak in a snarly tone, and unintentionally whine and whimper when they're sad, scared or in pain and so on. The canine sounds are more instinctual than spoken language and pups that are only learning to talk use them more than grown adults. In some circles they're considered somewhat uncivilized and people might think you're rude or not in control of your emotions if you're acting uninhibitedly doggish.

so like. i think part of the reason that john stopped bringing sam on hunts was not to protect sam, but to protect himself. john trained them to protect themselves, but also so that he could have hunting partners. and dean is a solid hunting partner. he’s quiet, obedient, calm under pressure. john can trust him to watch his back.
except when sam is there.
they only bring sam on a couple hunts before john starts noticing a pattern. small slip ups that he hasn’t made in years, shots dean would never normally miss that he can’t explain, monsters getting the jump on them when dean was the lookout. at first, john thinks it’s his son’s way of rebelling, trying to prove his argument that sam is too young to hunt.
but dean wouldn’t go and get injured on purpose to prove a point, especially not in front of sam. dean seems more concerned with sam’s panic than his own wound. sam works well under pressure, stabilizing the injury even through tears. john has to finish the job by himself, knowing sam would never leave dean in that condition, and not wanting to bring even more attention to them by arguing over it.
the hunts are messier with the three of them, and his youngest is much more resistant than dean was, so john only brings sam on hunts when john deems it necessary. everything goes smoother that way, dean back to his cool-headed self.
the last time sam comes on a hunt with them, john almost gets his heart ripped out by the ghost because dean is too busy checking on sam to burn the bones. dean all but carries sam— it’s only a mild concussion, and his ribs aren’t even cracked. dean’s fought on worse injuries— to the car, and refuses to speak to john for two days.
sam is a liability, but not because he’s bad at hunting. his presence destroys any logic in dean’s mind, like he’d rather die than see sam get slightly injured. he’s not that reckless with john.
at least sammy’s good at research.

I'm not hating but I do see some confusion around Zuko's flashbacks in Zuko Alone and the flashbacks in The Search re: people going "whaaaat this family dynamic is so weird Azula is acting so weird no one actually acts like this" and like IDK HOW TO TELL YOU THIS. BUT UHM. THEY DO. if they're fucking insane. and abusive. which was kind of the whole point
like hey its GOOD. that you have never seen this kind of shit irl but. it IS kind of textbook. idk how to break this news w/out sounding like a dick sdhsdhs

Are you going to Let Millie keep her ability to talk to dogs and her vax status in the rewrite?
The vax status
ABSOLUTELY. I know they wanted to show Graystripe in turmoil over Millie being sick but if that HAD to happen, it didn't need to be greencough. There are other illnesses, and I can flex my proficiency with medical stuff to conjure up some more types of plagues.
But honestly I don't care much for Millie having to get sick. I think there's other ways to show that Graystripe cares about his wife, y'know? This is not a character beat that required an epidemic.
Plus, showing her vax status off could be a good moment for Hollyleaf's arc, as another strength that outsiders can have.
Dog language
This one is probably going to get cut. I really don't like this idea that every animal can speak if you have their specific species' language, so the concept of "Speaking Dog" is on the chopping block completely.
(even lapine, the conlang they speak in Watership Down, isn't just the language of rabbits in general. it has modern and archaic forms and regional variation)
BUT, she will have a better knowledge of dogs which looks like 'speaking dog'. She knows that sometimes it's a bad idea to run, because the chase will whip them into a frenzy.
I think a better replacement for "Speaking Dog" can be that she actually recognizes that the vicious dogs are a prey-driven breed like bloodhounds or fox terriers, and ergo they won't stop if you stay still. Or vice versa, "No, that's just a retriever. It's a silly thing, it won't bother anything that isn't a dead duck."

i feel like this isn't something that really comes across in all of my reeves verse batman hate but i genuinely do still like the castings for the movie like they were good and frankly as much as i don't trust rpatz at all as a person i do think he's an incredibly talented actor and i do think he had all the potential to play a compelling bruce. the problem is that he was given a script to play a manchild

Need some dog behavior advice!
We just moved a couple months ago and the animals are mostly settling in great, except that one of my dogs is terrified of the basement. She won't go down there, and she gets really anxious when we do. It's a finished basement and carpeted, and she's used to staircases. I think the problem is that the stairs lead directly to the wall, then you turn right and are in the basement, so you can't see anything from the top.
So far we've tried coaxing her down a couple steps with treats and lots of praise, then being done for the day so we don't make it even scarier by forcing her down. Any other advice on making her feel more comfortable would be appreciated.
