had a random thought while looking for references. what if it was possible for the corrupted units to remember? like, a reverse persona degradation. it doesnt undo what the corruption has already done to their bodies, but they regain their humanity (?) in a way.

what if we could give the corrupted Mynah a stuffed animal and she just. stops. she doesnt attack Elster, but she doesnt collapse either. shes just frozen in place. again, doesnt change whats already happened to their bodies, but they regain their mind.

additionally, what if they could fall further into degradation because they remember? what if a Eule saw what became of appearance and she goes into a spiral of self-hatred and horror? what if she sees Elster, the only one unaffected by the corruption, and lashes out in pure spite over the fact that shes not like her or the others: hideous and rotting.

Also, there is a species of barnacle that does this exact thing to crabs: Sacculina carcini. A crustacean parasitizing a crustacean. It takes over the crab's body and mind, it castrates it if it's a male, and makes it behave like a female, so that more males can be infected.

What you see under the crab's abdomen is just the female reproductive organs of the parasite. The rest is inside, resembling an animal less than it resembles roots.

Also yeah, even non-parasitic barnacles are so weird, they're like a little upside down shrimp in a box, the things that poke outside are modified legs, and instead of releasing the eggs and sperm into water, they have an extremely long penis.
