Hey lovelies, my dad is once again trying to come home from the hospital tomorrow, and I am learning how to help with wound care, and tube feeds, so I have been completely and utterly wiped after coming home from that while also working full time (and no sleep because my kiddo had too much candy)-- so to be honest I have been taking some time to rest and doodle because I need it for my mental health! I'm slowly catching up, things are gonna be a bit bare bones while I get back into the groove of things. Hope you're all staying healthy and safe out there!

today was certainly not going how he thought it was going to go, it was still an enjoyable day but things kept happening left and right he was feeling an urge to drink but was able to fight it. "dodger," he said as he saw the man on a bench somewhere looking as sleepy as usual, "what's up? i need a breather from the crowd and a normal conversation." nathan said with a chuckle.

For various reasons, the fire station has become something of a third…maybe fourth home for Dodger since he’s started dating Phoenix, and after doing the rounds, listening to the gossip at the soda shop and the diner ready to pass on to Auntie G, he’d make his way to the fire station to pay a visit to his man before, probably, heading to the Sasquatch for a beer.

He was at the visit stage of his day, seeing the station mostly empty for now so taking the first free seat he could find, splaying himself out leisurely as a familiar figure walked in. “Nath, buddy, Phoenix about?”

Little Nathan blew a big raspberry at Dodger's greeting before giggling again and bouncing around the larger dog and hopping onto his back. The kit playfully kicked his heels into Dodger's sides like the dog was a horse and even started bouncing up and down.

"Woof, woof!"

A familiar tiny rabbit tackled the dog's fluffy chest, giggling happily. (Nathan - Baby verse)

Random Doctor Who RPG Facts about the Paternoster era

A possible Time Lord is still alive in Victorian England. Running the Diogenes Club is Dame Regina Smythe. The club itself is able to change size, miraculously gain rooms and have its interiors change on a whim, making it appear as a TARDIS. The game suggests they could be a Time Lord who's been chameleon arch'd, but I like the idea that it's an incarnation of the Doctor.

The Artful Dodger was a real person - specifically, they were Sam Swift the Quick (The Woman Who Lived). He isn't immortal but he ages at an incredibly slow pace (basically making him Jack Harkness). He looks after street urchins called "The Raggedy Children" while continuing to do crimes.

There is a giant Labyrinth underneath London. One suggested theory is that it's a dying TARDIS, due to its ability to traverse through history when travelling through it.

Madame Vastra and the Doctor both stopped a Krynoid Pod from hatching in London.

Ada Gillyflower (The Crimson Horror) has her own K-9. Their K-9 is an actual dog that's telepathic.

The political history of Who is further complicated by a wholly new Prime Minister for London - his name is Nathan Fairfield.

There is a female splinter of Scaroth. Her name is Scarlett Valentin and she is both an actress and opera singer hailing from Paris. The book states that she stole her skin from a prostitute in order to specifically appear young and healthy.

A splinter of Clara works for Torchwood - her name is Rhona Austen. It is suggested that she was only recruited as bait for the Doctor, but she is said to be a capable Torchwood member.

Jackson Lake's TARDIS (Tethered Aerial Release, Developed In Style) is available for aerial rides above London. It is now a business run by a brother-sister duo called Henry and Charlotte.

The Silence are a threat in London - specifically there is one called The Revenant Reverand, who uses his position hiding in a church to place suggestions into people's minds.

One of the main plotline hooks they offer is continuing the adventures of Victoria Waterfield, exploring what she did after leaving the TARDIS. It is not what I expected in this book.

Saving my favourite pint for last... there is a Dalek hiding in the criminal underworld called "The Napoleon of Crime". He was pulled out of the Time War following the events of The Evil of the Daleks and is trying to return to the TIme War. After acquiring Cyberman technology (The Next Doctor), he uses it to try and build a Time Corridor and get back into the Time War.

He has two lieutenants - the first is Mister Steele, a partially converted Cyberman who's fighting against his programming. Because of that programming, he is still planning to build a new Cyber-King and convert London, but fights against this so he can remain loyal to Napoleon. The second lieutenant is Miss Lovelace, a clockwork robot that is almost fully human that is entirely devised to be a rival to Steele, all for Napoleon's continued entertainment.

Napoleon also has an alien army thanks to his collected alien wares. On top of Cybershades, he now has Chessmen - pawns in his games that are controlled through Cyberman, Clockwork Robot and other alien technology. He has recruited The Revenant Reverand and Scarlett Valentin before, along with the Borad who is still alive!

Notably Napoleon commissioned the Borad to create a Dalek clone as a form of company - he eventually managed to create Josephine. She has a scrapped, bulky shell made from leftover pieces, being dubbed a "Steelclad". She was originally a woman named Lyssa Marden who the Borad "saved" from a fatal accident, although she does not realise what she's been turned into.

I love this character - he enjoys being a leader of the criminal underworld, especially being a nemesis for the Paternoster Gang (the book suggests Napoleon unconsciously sabotages his own plans because he would enjoy remaining in Victorian London).

Cubicle 7 beat Big Finish, this is way more fun.

currently watching: 911 has finally returned from the war (aka the hiatus from hell). I’m also watching Lone Star week to week, though I have severe misgivings about the lack of Sierra McClain in the final season. I left the TV on after 911 last night and caught Doctor Odyssey, which I might continue with, and then my not so secret shame, which is that I’ve watched Grey’s Anatomy since it premiered in 2005 and will probably watch until it gets canceled or I die, whichever comes first. I am also rewatching Castle, the procedural show of my heart, and unrelated to the Nathan Fillion connection, last weekend I somehow decided that I needed to rewatch Firefly in the YOOL 2024 (a note: no one needs to do this). Finally, after finishing My Lady Jane I had a hankering for more period pieces in my life, so I am two episodes into The Artful Dodger. Will I ever be able to see Thomas Brodie-Sangster as anything but the kid from Love Actually? Who can say.

last movie: I rewatched Serenity, which, again, Joss Whedon ain’t shit but…can’t stop the signal 😭 The last new movie I watched was Challengers (as an aside, have we done a Buddietommy Challengers AU yet and if not WHY NOT). Last movie I watched in theaters was Twisters, unironically the best romcom of 2024.

relationship status: single, childless, cat lady (this was noblealice’s response but it applies here too)

last thing I googled: "sam reid ‘fuck your boyfriend’” because I saw a gif set of him saying that and I immediately needed context (it’s from this video where he says Daniel saying that was one of his favorite Daniel moments, which, slay). Last non-fandom thing was something about depression that I’m not sharing but suffice to say…your girl has been going through it.

Edgar recognized her from the pictures Nathan had shown him, even if she was older now. Swallowing, he decided to hell with it and walked up to Mia, tapping her shoulder. "Hi, uh, Mia? I-I'm Edgar. Edgar Wayne. I'm a...friend of Nathan's. It's a pleasure to meet you."

TV Shows Roundup: Jan - June

AKA every show I watched in the first half of 2024. I’ve been wanted to keep better track of my own viewing habits and thought it’d be fun to keep a running list with mini reviews. might do a tier list at the end of the year if I end up having enough. Curious what y’all have been watching/if you have any recommendations!

about 12 shows here which sounds like a lot but in my defense, there are a lot with one one season (currently!! we are manifesting some renewals here)

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (season one):

Full transparency: I was not watching this show. 12 year old me who was obsessed with Percy Jackson, knew who her godly parent would be, and acted out sword fights with her siblings, was watching this show. She has no complaints. School Spirits (season one):

As soon as I heard the premise of this show I was on board, but it ended up delivering even more than I expected. The mystery was interesting and I felt like I received information at the exact right pace, the ghosts made a very charming undead-breakfast club and the characters in general were very compelling. Whoever put that Phoebe Bridgers song at the end of episode 1 deserves and Emmy and I’m not kidding. Loki (season 2):

I’ve fallen out with the MCU as a whole, but this show brought me back for season 2. I appreciate how it stands on its own as a series with its own characters, worldbuilding, and story that doesn’t require I watch 15 movies and 2 shows to comprehend. This season leaned into the wacky scifi time trace shenanigans in a way that reminded me of Doctor Who at times. The ending made me unexpectedly emotional. The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself (season 1):

Okay, I liked the first couple episodes of this but once the main trio of Nathan, Annalise, and Gabriel were together it was *electric*. I loved how gorey and dark it wasn’t afraid to get and the characters played off each other so well. I’m devastated we won’t get to see more of these guys because despite the fast pacing of the show, you really grow to love these characters. Lockwood and Co (season one, rewatch):

Just as good the second time! Truly a masterfully done show; the worldbuilding, mysteries, and aesthetic are top notch but what sells it are the characters and their relationships to each other. There really is something incredibly comforting about this show for me, I keep coming back to Portland Row and the people who live there. The fact that we did not get to see later books in the series adapted is a tragedy.

This is just smartly done comedy with characters whose dysfunction manages to feel a little too familiar. I loved the shades of the stage play peeking through - there is a theatrical feel to the show overall that I love - and despite its cynicism, this show has a beating heart that occasionally hits you across the face. Basically everything they say about this one is true.

Doom Patrol (seasons three and four):

I will admit, season three (minus the DVDA) episode, felt very slow to me, but season four was an excellent return to form. It’s strange, bordering on absurdist, and flits between comedy and horror at a dizzying speed. This show is an underrated gem and truly one of a kind.

Cracow Monsters (season one):

This show is beautiful; its color scheme, setting, and camera work are immersive and feel like wandering down rainy cobblestoned streets. The story took a while to pick up, but the horror elements were very well done. I wish we’d spent a bit more time with the other students, as they all seemed like interesting characters in their own right. I loved the mythology, and folkloric inspiration.

The Artful Dodger (season one):

It’s a period drama, it’s a medical show, it’s a heist, it’s inspired by Charles Dickens. This show is utterly delightful and thoroughly engrossing. I suspected I would enjoy it from the concept alone, but there is just something completely charming about it start to finish I could not get out of my head.

Dead Boy Detectives (season one):

So…this show took over my brain. The world here is populated by dynamic and fascinating characters and the case of the week format allows for the chance to see them shine in different situations. It somehow balances the absurd, the macabre, and the heartfelt and once it finds its footing does not let up. It’s smart, eccentric, and basically candy for the kind of person who loves over analyzing the actions of fictional characters (me).

Hannibal (season 3):

Had to wait for this to come back on Amazon to finish and it did not disappoint. First half of the season was slower, but I really enjoyed the gothic castle sections. Second half was Red Dragon, which was really cool with these versions of the characters. A wholly satisfying (and appropriately morbid) conclusion to the series.

Andor (season 1)

People have been telling me to watch this and that I’d love it since it came out and they were all correct. There was so much more thought and care put into the depiction of life under an oppressive government and I expected and even if I wasn’t a Star Wars fan, the story is gripping and beautifully shot on its own. Because I *am* a Star Wars fan, it’s even better.

Since the earthquake, Dodger's entire routine had been completely flipped on its head. He found himself awake more than he did asleep, keeping an eye on both Phoenix and Jay as they slept, in case anything happened to them in the night, especially Jay given the injuries she had sustained. Even during the day he was needing to be more vigilant, while Phoenix was at the station he was again taking care of Jay, being relegated back to Uncle Dodger for the time being while her memory recovered.

For now she was at the station, no doubt aggravating Dahlia and Nathan while Dodger perused the video rental store for a movie they could watch, before he detoured to the soda shop for milkshakes and treats. At least he would if he hadn't been stood in front of one stand, eyes fluttering closed almost daring him to just sleep where he stood, the words on the cases all blurring together.

Fuck, he just needed to rest.
