🌻. దీపావళి విశిష్టత - మహా లక్ష్మీదేవి పూజ 🌻

దీపావళి అంటే దీపాల వరుస. నరక చతుర్దశి రోజున నరక సంహారం జరిగింది. మర్నాడు అమావాస్య కనుక, చీకటిని పారద్రోలడానికి అందరూ దీపాలు వెలిగించి, టపాసులు కాల్చి తమ ఆనందాన్ని వ్యక్తపరుచుకున్నారు. వామనుడు బలి చక్రవర్తిని 3వ పాదంతో పాతాళానికి పంపించిన రోజు. విక్రమార్క చక్రవర్తి పట్టాభిషిక్తుడైన రోజు. అమావాస్య రోజు చీకటిని పోగొట్టి ఈ జగత్తుకు వెలుగును ప్రసాదించేదే దీపావళి. చీకటి వెలుగుల సమాహారమే దీపావళి. (కష్ట సుఖాల కలయికే ఈ జీవితం అని అంతరార్థం..)

దీపావళి 5 రోజుల పర్వదినం. ధన త్రయోదశి-- నరక చతుర్దశి-- దీపావళి-- బలి పాడ్యమి-- భగినీ హస్త భోజనం (యమ ద్వితీయం). భగినీహస్త భోజనం రోజు అక్క-తమ్ముడు, అన్నా-చెల్లెలు ఉన్నవారు తప్పనిసరిగా సోదరి ఇంటికి వెళ్లి భోజనం చేయాలని శాస్త్రం. ఎవరైతే సోదరి ఇంటికి వెళ్లి భోజనం చేస్తారో! వారి సోదరులకి అపమృత్యు దోషం ఉండదు, రోగాలు దరిచేరవు. భోజనం పెట్టిన సోదరికి సంపూర్ణ ఐదోతనం ప్రాప్తిస్తుంది. హిందూ సాంప్రదాయంలో బంధువుల తోటి కుటుంబమంతా కలవడమే పండగంటే. పాడ్యమి రోజు కేదార గౌరీ నోము నోచుకుంటారు. కొండ ప్రాంతంలో గౌర���్మ నోములు అంటారు.

ఈ రోజు సాయంత్రం ఇంటి ముందు, దేవుని దగ్గర దీపాలు వెలిగిస్తారు. కొంతమంది మైనపు కొవ్వొత్తులు వెలిగిస్తారు. అది మన సాంప్రదాయం కాదు. దీపం అంటే మట్టి ప్రమిదలో నూనెతో దీపారాధన చేయాలి. (మానవ శరీరమే మట్టి ప్రమిద. మట్టి ప్రమిదలో వెలిగే జ్యోతి స్వరూపమే మన ప్రాణం. దీపం జ్యోతి పరబ్రహ్మ అన్నారు..) దీపపు వెలుగులో లక్ష్మీ ఉన్నట్లుగా భావించాలి. దీపాలు వెలిగించి అలాగే భూమి మీద పెట్టకూడదు. మనందరినీ భరించే భూమాత వేడిని భరించలేదు. అందుకే ప్రమిదలలో దీపారాధన చేస్తారు. దీపాలు వెలిగించేటప్పుడు కొత్త ప్రమిదలు వాడాలి. ముందు సంవత్సరం ప్రమిదలు వాడరాదు.

దీపావళి అనగానే ఈ రోజు ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ లక్ష్మీదేవి పూజ చేస్తారు. దీపావళి రోజున ఇంటిముందు శుభ్రంగా కడిగి ముగ్గు పెట్టాలి. లక్ష్మీదేవి వస్తుంది కనుక ఇల్లు శుభ్రంగా ఉంచి, ఆ తల్లికి ఆహ్వానం పలకాలి. ఈరోజు సూర్యోదయానికి 4 ఘడియల ముందే లేచి, ఒక టపాసులు కాల్చి, జ్యేష్ఠా లక్ష్మీదేవిని దూరం చేయడం కోసం నువ్వుల నూనెతో తలస్నానం చేయాలి. స్నానం చేసిన తర్వాత తీపి తినాలి. దీపావళి రోజు లక్ష్మీదేవి విగ్రహానికి పసుపు- కుంకుమ- గంధం- అక్షింతలతో అర్చించి, పంచామృతాలతో అభిషేకం చేసి, లక్ష్మీ శతనామ స్తోత్రం, లక్ష్మీ సహస్ర నామాలతో పూజిస్తారు. శ్రీ సూక్తంతో షోడోపచార పూజ చేస్తారు. ఈరోజు 108 రూపాయి నాణేలు (రూ.1/- రూ2/- రూ5/- నాణాలు) శుభ్రంగా పాలతో కడిగి, సాయంత్రం 6 గంటలకి ఒక్కొక్క నాణెంతో లక్ష్మీ అష్టోత్తర పూజ చేస్తారు. పూజ చేసిన తర్వాత పూజకు ఉపయోగించిన నాణాలు ఎర్రటి వస్త్రంలో భద్రపరచి, వాటిని బీరువాలో దాటిపెడితే! సంవత్సరమంతా వారి ఇంట ధనానికి లోటు ఉండదు. ఈ రోజు లక్ష్మి పూజ చేసేవారిక��� లక్ష్మీ అనుగ్రహం తప్పకుండ కలుగుతుంది.

పూజ పూర్తవగానే టపాసులు కాలుస్తారు. దీపావళి రోజున కాల్చే టపాసులు, మతాబులు అన్ని వెలుగులు చిమ్ముతూ ఉంటాయి. ఈ వెలుగులకి, శబ్దాలకి మనకున్న దారిద్ర్య, దుఃఖాలను పోవాలని పండగ చేసుకుంటారు. దీపావళి పండగ వర్షాలు తగ్గి, చలికాలం వచ్చే సమయం కనుక జ్వరాలు, అనారోగ్యాలు వచ్చే అవకాశం ఉంది. కాబట్టి టపాసులు కాల్చడం ద్వారా, క్రిమికీటకాలు నశిస్తాయి. పూర్వం దీపావళికి మట్టి ప్రమిదలు వెలిగించి, కాగడాలు (దివిటీలు) పట్టుకొని గ్రామమంతా తిరిగేవారు. ఆటపాటలతో గడిపేవారు. ఈ విధంగా పండగ చేసుకోవడం వల్ల శబ్ద, ధ్వని కాలుష్యం, మందుల యొక్క కాలుష్యం ఉండేది కాదు. టపాసులు కాల్చినాక పెద్దలు తీపి తినిపిస్తా��ు.

Character 1: Female, 20s, British Asian, practising Hindu. She celebrates Diwali in one of the episodes.

Character 2: Female, 70s, Dutch, Jewish. She regularly attends the synagogue, celebrates Jewish holidays such as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and her faith is an important part of the story. This podcast is set in 2004, and this character is a Holocaust survivor (imprisoned in Dachau as a child).

FURTHER UPDATE: Thank you to those of you who have emailed me so far - a reader has been found for Character 2! Still looking for a Hindu reader :)
