The Rise of micro trends and their consequences:
In this era of social media, the rate at which trends sweep across the world has dramatically increased giving rise to what can simply be called "micro trends." Micro trends may peak within weeks or even days behind TikTok, Instagram, and Pinterest, far from the old trend that lasts from months to years. They are often fashion, lifestyle, aesthetic-related because they make maximum use of hashtags, influencers, and viral content.
Much of this popularity has to do with the demand for newness in online spaces. The algorithmic nature of social media encourages fresh and trendy new content, which can be a challenge to the content creators and brands, who struggle to replicate and produce an entire spectrum of looks well before old ones become obsolete. Today's hot look may be a passé one by next week.
Still, such a phenomenon entails more serious consequences than those in culture on the internet. The pace of micro trends has led to overconsumption epidemics, particularly within the fashion sector. Indeed, to keep track with the latest fashion novelties, consumers purchase more, but quality, sustainability and long-term uses are neglected in the interest of continuous consumption. Fast fashion brands that make money off these fads only exacerbate the problem by selling cheap, disposable clothing.
Furthermore, the micro trend also encourages cultural homogenization with a short life cycle that usually means that individuality is destroyed in favor of a cycle of mimicking whatever is trendy. Creativity is stifled and an environment encourages people to 'follow and fall into line'.
Micro trends create thrills and instant enjoyment; however, an on going debate within society has generated that although exciting, these fashions have serious, long-term effects on both the environment, consumers' behavior to goods and personal identity. The gap challenge is between something new with sustainability and authenticity in a world that consumes next thing.

how does antiquing work in Star Trek?
like, okay, there's no scarcity Because Replicators. great! except you can't replicate an antique, not the real thing. probably some AMAZING reproductions- 24th-century historical costumers must be having the time of their lives, because as great as modern synthetic baleen is, imagine what you could do with a machine that literally replicates the exact molecular structure of the same! or that extinct flax that made medieval linen so great! -but I know antique collectors. there's nothing like the feeling of something you know so many other people have loved for centuries
is it like a barter system? do you go to the antique "shop" with things passed down in your family or found in the equivalent of a Facebook buy-nothing group, and trade what you have for what the history nerd running the place has based on your respective interests?
is Brimfield like a giant swap meet? could I go with, say...a big bag full of my grandmother's chunky 1950s costume jewelry and trade it for 1880s blouse waists because the stall owner wants the former and I want the latter? equivalent value wouldn't matter- what's value, beyond how much you treasure something? nobody's got rent to make or bills to pay, after all
do people become antiques "dealers" just for the thrill of the hunt and the pleasure of matching an object to someone who will love it? you don't have to work, after all; you can spend your whole life searching the world for rare treasures if that brings you joy
this is a nice thought

actually so fucked how ginny's stuff is still around the house, virtually untouched. we don't have a great idea of how long its been since she died, but all of her makeup is still in her bathroom. jesse uses a jar of her concealer in the second episode. is it expired?? is it unopened, meant to replace a nearly-depleted jar that was never totally emptied?? all those products sitting there, not moved since they were used for the last time. forbidden. like a child warned never to play with their mother's makeup. like a child pretending that if nothing moves, if u hold ur breath and stand perfectly still, nothing changes. a bug preserved in amber. jane's lipstick-stained cigarette still sitting in his dashboard ashtray. inventing permanence.

Haunted items AU! Shadow Company
So the SC brainrot server talked about an AU of KIA Shadows being attached to items they liked a lot and I wrote one with Orion :3 (copied from dc so pardon the mistakes)
Not usually what I would write but I hope it flowed well enough!
-
There was a rumour in the base to never go into the room of a Shadow formerly known as Shadow 2-15 but with how more new Shadows have been recruited now, there was no other choice but to assign the room to some of them.
The room looked fine, some dust and perfectly fine furniture as if it was never used. One thing caught their eyes though, the box under the bed used by Shadow 2-15.
It gave off bad vibes even from the get-go but they all agreed to not disturb it and nothing happened the first weeks of their stay other than the knocks from the box.
However the longer they stayed in the room, it seemed that whatever was in that box got bolder. Every night, desperate fists hit the beds one by one with a voice accompanying it.
"Le t me out" It said.
It went on to the point where the rookies felt frustrated and finally opened the damned box. In it was a pristine keris, evidently well taken care of but the yellow cloth that was wrapped around it was unraveled which gave them a foreboding feeling.
"Let's put it away, yeah" One of them nervously said, not liking the sight of the traditional Javanese weapon in an American PMC base. Shadow 2-15 was a Malaysian with a Javanese lineage too...
"No, I'm burning this cursed thing!" The one in front of the box exclaimed as he snatched the keris up alongside the cloth.
And burned it, he did.
Their nights were calm since then, no more knocking or ghastly voice asking to be let out... until it came back. The dagger was back but how? It was burned! Handle turned to ash and blade blackened with ashes! Yet it laid on the table and untouched like the day they opened the box.
"I am nOT tHAT eASiLY DISpoSed OF..." A disembodied voice growled from behind them, the dagger suddenly bled until the red liquid pooled with a stench that they would only smell on missions.

[Image of what a keris would look like]
So yeah, Orion would totally haunt his favourite keris and unknowingly activate his family's pact with a jinn or sumn (common in malaysia during the past)

i know i've been very culty on here about period underwear and reusable period products in general whenever i've brought up the topic in the last year or so but i mean it sincerely. i have never spent my money on a product that just simply improved my life so much. game-changing isn't even the beginning of it. i look forward to how much better my periods are now since i no longer have to depend on gross disposables. period underwear is the shit
#the best thing is it doesn't even feel wet. it doesn't even feel wet#like when you're a kid and you're new at it and all you can think about is how much you dont wanna be on your period anymore#and how much you wanna go back to just wearing your underwear like a normal day#with period underwear. you're just wearing underwear. and it DOES feel like a normal day#menstruation cw#other than y'know you're continuously bleeding and maybe you have cramps or whatever#other than having a kinda swimsuity texture (cant think of a better way to describe it) it just feels like underwear#it's JUST underwear#tales from diana#i mean im not even on my period rn although i am getting closer to it#i just bought ordered some new stuff and once this comes in. i'll be disposable-pad free forever#like i could cry about that#including some cloth pads (ive never tried them before)#i figured i could keep one or two of those in my purse or whatever for emergencies#the ONLY (and i mean only) inconvenient thing about period underwear is that it's much less convenient to just change or put on in public#on light or moderate days for me at least they can last the whole day. on heavy days it's good to change every 12 hours#and i can typically depend on doing that at home#but if i have a cloth pad for emergencies then i never have to rely on a disposable EVEN IN THE CASE that my period comes unexpectedly.#i mean it like i'm genuinely excited about this#i have only mentioned it a handful of times to friends in the year-plus that i bought that first pair of thinx#but i would literally buy any of my friends who menstruate a pair or a pack if they asked#like im very passionate about what a life improvement it has been#why do you think i'm always vag-angelizing about it these days?

Hi I don’t have a lot of money and while I have a part time job, given that this is America and everything costs a billion dollars it’s far from enough. I have a Poshmark and a Mercari. If you need to buy any gifts for the upcoming holiday season or if there’s something on there that you need, I would appreciate if you bought something. If you can’t or simply don’t want to a reblog would be greatly appreciated. I also appreciate you for taking the time to read this here’s Minmo from Silent Hill 3 as thanks

when you get a present or find something at a store/yard sale/flea market and the second you see it your brain imprints on it and you’re like “I am soulmates with this little ceramic tooth magnet and I will protect it forever because we’re friends and we love each other”

Regarding the repeating outfit: How do you keep clothes in good condition after repeated wear? they get very worn out after awhile :(
There are a couple answers to this, but please take them with my supposition that you’re not talking about hard-wearing clothing for specific work/activities. I assume that if you're some hottie in overalls at a wolf sanctuary or whatever, you're probably not turning to a fancy femme on tumblr for garment maintenance advice.
First off, where you buy your clothes is important. Fast fashion is not made to last, it is made to degrade like so much spider silk and to be thrown out with each trend cycle. It can be cared for (see my next point), but it takes effort, and you are actively resisting entropy. Buy well-made clothes secondhand, particularly vintage clothes, and you'll be better off. And when I say vintage, I don't mean pinups and victory curls, I mean good solid mall brands from the 90s, like Nine West, Anne Taylor, Old Navy and Gap. The quality dip in many consumer goods over the past twenty years has been horrifying to watch, and all the brands I listed have been victims, but there are still a lot of old, well-made pieces out there in the thrifting market. Or see if your parents / older family members or friends have anything similar in their closet that they wouldn't mind parting with.
(But ALSO even fast fashion used to be better. I have a sweater from Zara that I bought in the year of our lord 2013, and I wore it to dinner just this week. I've spent years making sure it didn't shrink in the wash and hanging it up and spot cleaning it, and it looks as good as it did the day I bought it. On that note --)
Please please please take care of your clothes. Read the labels inside them for washing instructions, go online to learn more about how to launder the specific material, make sure you don't tumble dry things that will shrink or melt, hang them up so they don't wrinkle, iron them carefully, take in buttons to be repaired at your local seamstress or laundromat, the list goes on. It's a little time consuming, but not complicated.
You'll also be more likely to put in the effort if you get a lot of use out of a garment, and don't feel like a dummy for steam-drying a trendy item that's going to be passé in a few months. Think judiciously about trends - will you be able to incorporate a piece into your personal style once the girlies on tiktok stop wearing it? If so, great. If not, you don't want to be stuck hand washing a popcorn crop top. (Idk if those are back in on the y2k train yet, but as a millennial who shopped at Limited Too, I advise my gen z followers that it's only a matter of time.)
Constant trend cycles, low-quality clothes, items sold for loose change during Shein or Fashion Nova sales, a generation brought up so the idea of "outfit repeating" has any social weight whatsoever: this shit is bad for the planet, and TERRIBLE for exploited workers across the world, particularly in the global south. We can all try for a better reality than this; your habits of personal consumption matter.

Look, I'm talking about diaper changes here. Specifically about factors that make them unpleasant. (Yes, we all know that the answer is "using disposables", but I'm being more specific.) You may well want to scroll past.
I will preface this by saying that yes, I know that commenting on public stuff on Facebook is a horrible idea, but sometimes the stupid is just too strong. The number of parents who think that changing cloth diapers is grosser than changing disposable ones was impossible to ignore. (If you are washing your own I will entertain the argument that you find having to deal with the disposable diaper garbage less gross than the diaper laundry, yes.)
But what gets me is that there are apparently large numbers of parents who not only don't dump diapers into the toilet (confession time: I've pretty much never done that, because when the change table in the airport washroom is located poorly, that's just not happening), they are unaware that that's what you're supposed to do. Not just "wait, you're supposed to do what?" but "that's stupid, why would anyone do that?". And yes, the follow-up wasn't "why would someone go to that much bother" but "why would they tell you to do it"
Can we maybe, as a society, agree that keeping biohazards out of the dump is a good thing?
