kill me
(*wobbly tearstained voice* this is father & son richard plantagenet in henry vi part 3 1983 dir jane howell btw. which is. extremely good)
#HIM. DAD!!!?!?! YOU SEE#I thought the ian holm (1965) version of richard and york's relationship was devastating. I had no idea what was coming for me#henry vi part 3#shakespeare#richard iii#he just folds into the hug so completely and without trepidation even when he thinks he's being reprimanded. is the thing#'love forswore me in my mother's womb'#WHAT WAS YOUR DAD THEN RICHARD??? CHOPPED LIVER???????#*on my knees on the bare earth rending my garments and clawing at my bloodied face*#your brothers kind of suck I will grant you but they frankly seem to love you just as much or more than they love each other lol#I'm fine. the self-fulfilling prophecy and utter desolate isolation of abject self-loathing just got in my eyes again#I suppose a lifetime of your mum going 'shame of my womb' would do that to a motherfucker but STILL#honestly nothing beats moving through henry vi parts 2 and 3 before hitting richard iii. especially in this version#when you see the desperation verging on mania of york deciding to claim the throne reflected in his son later and it's like. ah. oh.#'not like the dam or the sire' are u sure about that margaret lmao#even the way richard will eventually do his asides are direct mirrors to how his father does it in this version#the matching limp after york gets wounded by clifford. the way they clearly share a sense of humour. *sounds of agony*#never have I witnessed a york I actually rooted for so deeply as bernard hill's even WITH that worrying intensity tho#among other high points of this version: a neverending cavalcade of some of the best noses you'll ever see in your life#also an unusual but SO fucking good take on richard. laurence olivier's version is certifiably Iconic of course (for better or worse)#but he is also like. transparently a disney villain haha I believe I coined the term 'murderscamp' to describe him#lots of fun to watch but it makes everyone else look like such absolute dumbasses for not seeing him for what he is#and lots of performances to my mind go way too far into the creep factor way too quickly#with ron cook's softspoken more believeably vulnerable richard from the outset it's easier to see how he flies under the radar#he's short and slight his voice doesn't rise that much even when he's in a rage and he's the softest with their father#you see how edward and george could still categorize him as their baby brother and not take him seriously -- not realize that some things#have uh. Shifted!! under the surface! over the years! in ways they probably should have been paying attention to!#to them he's still the kid warwick carried off stage on his shoulders.#frighteningly capable in battle but still more to be protected than protected from. until... god. augh. ow.

reason #354 why my ancestors were stronger than me
if I had to cut up fabric I had spun and woven by hand to make my garments, I would cry real tears, so many that the garments would become stiff with salt and then I'd have to launder the fabric, by hand,

saw someone say they pronounce it k-eh-f i think that’s the worst
Kehf. Is this who we are? Is this the kind of fandom we want to be?
In all fairness variety of pronunciation is fine, and doesn't actually matter. but if I WERE to make a problem out of it, it just feels too refined for Keefe. The keif pronunciation (with the ei/ee sound found in i in IPA) has this inherent silly feeling. Like eek. it's squeaky because he's ridiculous.
at the end of the day, I stand with my fandom...but some of you...some of you I am seeing in a new light...

the fact that mobility aids are advertised towards medical professionals is so ridiculous. theyll produce the most boring sanitized videos and images of cripples who arent even allowed to smile or frown or fart or do ANYTHING as the nurse transferring them rolls them into a sling and hoists them into a lift. not even when demonstrating the "open leg position" like come ON. you know if crips were running this shit itd be the funnest shit imaginable. if you were dangling from the ceiling on your personal lift in the open leg position youd be having a fucking blast and everyone would know it: everyone SHOULD know it. we cant stand but we can have a good time!

From one peaches blog to another, I love you, and I hope you understand my desire to add this addition to this post!
First of all, I fully agree that people shouldn't buy crocheted items from fast fashion producers. I am not trying to disagree that there is no way to pay someone fairly for a $15 crochet top!!! I am not here to play devils advocate. I am here to say that almost any fast fashion clothing item is nearly entirely handmade. Crochet is not unique in this way.
I have both crocheted tops and sewn tops, and while I would agree that crochet is more labor intensive per garment, sewing is also laborious. Factory sewing even more so because you are, just like crocheting, doing the same things on repeat for hours.
I am hesitant to believe that one is better or worse than the other when it comes to being a garment worker. The difference would be if workers are paid by the garment or hourly. By the garment, absolutely crochet is worse, but hourly? Both are repetitive handmade slave labor.
Some of the only things that are actually done fully by machine in the garment making process are cutting and pocket/belt loop attachment. People grossly overestimate the amount of labor that is automated in mass garment production. The answer is truly almost none.
So anyway, I'm not trying to pit two bad bitches against each other, but if we are trying to send a message to companies that we don't want items made fully by hand using slave labor, that includes ALL fast fashion, not just crochet.
Reminder to avoid buying anything crochet new from big stores. Crochet (unlike knit) CANNOT be done by a machine and must be done by an actual human being. The person who made it was definitely not paid an appropriate amount for their labour. Most big stores use sweatshops anyway and I know it’s hard to completely avoid buying anything from a major store. But if those specific items don’t sell, we can send a message to companies that we don’t want items made fully by hand using slave labour
This summer, avoid any new crochet items. You don’t need THAT specific top that badly
