reason #354 why my ancestors were stronger than me
if I had to cut up fabric I had spun and woven by hand to make my garments, I would cry real tears, so many that the garments would become stiff with salt and then I'd have to launder the fabric, by hand,
#history of thread#finx rambles#truly I can see the appeal of all the many many historical garments that are just 'you take the rectangle. you fold the rectangle.'#any pattern where you can take the fabric direct off the loom and use ALL of it#would be emotionally as well as practically preferable

saw someone say they pronounce it k-eh-f i think that’s the worst
Kehf. Is this who we are? Is this the kind of fandom we want to be?
In all fairness variety of pronunciation is fine, and doesn't actually matter. but if I WERE to make a problem out of it, it just feels too refined for Keefe. The keif pronunciation (with the ei/ee sound found in i in IPA) has this inherent silly feeling. Like eek. it's squeaky because he's ridiculous.
at the end of the day, I stand with my fandom...but some of you...some of you I am seeing in a new light...
#kotlc#quil's queries#nonsie#every so often we bring back pronunciation discourse sorry to be the instigator this time guys#except not really it's very funny#just how firm people are on it in either direction#because we all know it doesn't matter it's a mass bit of rage <3#oh ALSO. in acod. there is a garment called a kef. they're a style of pants. so#can't help but think of kehf as being. pants

the fact that mobility aids are advertised towards medical professionals is so ridiculous. theyll produce the most boring sanitized videos and images of cripples who arent even allowed to smile or frown or fart or do ANYTHING as the nurse transferring them rolls them into a sling and hoists them into a lift. not even when demonstrating the "open leg position" like come ON. you know if crips were running this shit itd be the funnest shit imaginable. if you were dangling from the ceiling on your personal lift in the open leg position youd be having a fucking blast and everyone would know it: everyone SHOULD know it. we cant stand but we can have a good time!
#potentially#suggestive t#not to mention the opportunity for ridiculous bg music choices#defying gravity comes to mind#i believe i can fly#theres so much potential and its all wasted#petition to give sky cubacub and rebirth garments directing privileges over all mobility and medical device advertisements forever

#for context this garment formerly belonged to my dad so it doesn't really fit me in any direction except Length#so re-tailoring them is part of the project anyway#and due to the sheer scale and location of this hole I don't think there's a way to do it at all unobtrusively so I might as well get wild

From one peaches blog to another, I love you, and I hope you understand my desire to add this addition to this post!
First of all, I fully agree that people shouldn't buy crocheted items from fast fashion producers. I am not trying to disagree that there is no way to pay someone fairly for a $15 crochet top!!! I am not here to play devils advocate. I am here to say that almost any fast fashion clothing item is nearly entirely handmade. Crochet is not unique in this way.
I have both crocheted tops and sewn tops, and while I would agree that crochet is more labor intensive per garment, sewing is also laborious. Factory sewing even more so because you are, just like crocheting, doing the same things on repeat for hours.
I am hesitant to believe that one is better or worse than the other when it comes to being a garment worker. The difference would be if workers are paid by the garment or hourly. By the garment, absolutely crochet is worse, but hourly? Both are repetitive handmade slave labor.
Some of the only things that are actually done fully by machine in the garment making process are cutting and pocket/belt loop attachment. People grossly overestimate the amount of labor that is automated in mass garment production. The answer is truly almost none.
So anyway, I'm not trying to pit two bad bitches against each other, but if we are trying to send a message to companies that we don't want items made fully by hand using slave labor, that includes ALL fast fashion, not just crochet.
Reminder to avoid buying anything crochet new from big stores. Crochet (unlike knit) CANNOT be done by a machine and must be done by an actual human being. The person who made it was definitely not paid an appropriate amount for their labour. Most big stores use sweatshops anyway and I know it’s hard to completely avoid buying anything from a major store. But if those specific items don’t sell, we can send a message to companies that we don’t want items made fully by hand using slave labour
This summer, avoid any new crochet items. You don’t need THAT specific top that badly
#I do not have direct experience with fast fashion garment production so ofc my opinion comes with a grain of salt#there is a lot of nuance to complicated issues like this#I just want a world where we stand up to the flaws of the fast fashion industry as a whole#crochet is just a small part of the exploitation that comes from mass production of textile goods#I guess I coulda made my own post but this post made me think of it!#I hope you don't mind OP#I am ravenous about this topic in particular as a textile crafts person

By faith we can touch the Lord’s human virtue to be healed from leaking life. Amen! When we touch Christ as the One with the heavenly-ruled deeds by prayer and in His word, we are healed of our disease; we are sick of leaking life, but when we touch the Lord in His humanity, we are healed by faith, for we touch Him by faith. DTF Printing: Your Path to a Versatile Business
Many garment decoration business owners discover that their present customisation technology encounters difficulties while reviewing their business scope. "How many orders can I handle at once?" "How long will it take to prep before printing?" or "What's the quickest turnaround time that remains profitable?" are typical questions. Businesses must assess existing technologies to determine which equipment addresses these challenges, answers these questions, and offers the most adaptability for success.
Fortunately, digital printing options such as direct-to-film (DTF) printers can provide a solution. DTF printing technique allows for the creation of several detailed, colourful pictures with minimum effort. Furthermore, the convenience of applying transfers shortens the time necessary for shirt manufacture. The printing process's speed enables faster turnaround times for larger assignments. Let's look at the benefits of a flexible DTF printer business.
No Need to Convert Your Images
A notable disadvantage of several technologies is the lengthy preparation necessary prior to printing. For example, screen printing divides an image into various colours, each requiring a separate screen. Embroidery involves capturing and translating a picture into a file format that defines stitches and instructions, which might take hours or even days.
In contrast, DTF printing enables high-definition, full-color photos without losing quality. There is no need to create colour layers or screens. RIP software facilitates the designing of large-scale print projects and delivers on-demand information. You may begin printing right from the program without any further preparations, making printing simple and accessible. This adaptability allows for the management of complex designs as well as the capture of profitable expansion prospects when taking on new projects.
Reducing Time Spent per Shirt
Another important consideration is the pace with which shirts are produced. Common enquiries include, "How long does it take each technology to produce a single shirt?" "Are there limitations on what I can print?" followed by "How much physical labour does each technology require?" Direct to Garment (DTG) printing, for example, requires pre-treating blank shirts, particularly dark clothing, with white ink, which might take time.
Screen printing also needs a lot of manual labour and time, as each coat of colour must be applied and allowed to dry. This method can slow down manufacturing, particularly for big print runs.
DTF printing, on the other hand, can create hundreds of transfers at once by printing directly onto a specialised film that is subsequently heat-pressed onto clothing. This efficiency means that manufacturing isn't restricted to one garment at a time, and the pressing process is speedy, taking only 15 seconds for each shirt. This simplicity enables organisations to take on larger tasks with greater flexibility and convenience, cutting time per shirt and creating new opportunities.
Flexibility is Key
So, what is the key to operating a flexible DTF printer business? Flexibility. DTF provides the best opportunities with the least amount of sacrifice at each barrier. Importing picture files does not require any specific preparations or adjustments, making DTF a perfect choice for high-resolution transfers with elaborate artwork.
With less preparatory time, DTF can satisfy the needs of print jobs with shorter deadlines. Need 500 t-shirts in under 36 hours? If blanks, supplies, and design files are readily accessible, a direct-to-film printer can begin production quickly and achieve the deadline. If the client has their own heat press, it is even easier to produce and sell individual transfers.
DTF printing exceeds competing technologies, such as DTG, in terms of quality and consistency throughout large print runs. Unlike screen printing, which takes extensive preparation time and is best suited to big quantities, DTF can handle both small and large orders effectively. This mobility enables organisations to expand and achieve by confidently accepting new possibilities and larger print orders.
Conclusion
Direct-to-Film (DTF) printers provide a game-changing alternative for garment decorating companies dealing with the problems of current customisation requirements. DTF technology enables businesses to easily manage a wide range of orders, from small batches to large-scale projects, by eliminating significant preparation, saving manufacturing time per shirt, and providing unrivalled flexibility. This flexibility not only improves operational efficiency but also creates new opportunities for development and profitability, ensuring that firms stay competitive and capable of satisfying their consumers' shifting expectations.
