Welcome to AU Sonic Smackdown!

What is AU Sonic Smackdown, you ask? Well, it's a multiversal showdown where Alternate Universe (AU) versions of Sonic battle it out to see who's the greatest of all blue blurs! Run by yours truly, Livewire (@wereh0gz), to appreciate the creativity in AUs and to show off our special little guys!

Here are the rules-

Only one submission per person

Your submission must be of an AU you created (if the AU has multiple creators, you must be one of them)

Your submission must include an image of your AU Sonic, whether that's a traditional pencil-and-paper drawing or a digital illustration (skill level does not matter!)

No NSFW - AUs in which Sonic is an adult are allowed but they must be SFW, or else your submission will be discarded

In relation to the above rule- any submissions from bigots, proshippers, and NSFW Sonic artists (including NSFW of aged-up versions of the characters) will be discarded

Show good sportsmanship! This is all being done for fun and to share our AUs, so don't make fun of other competitors' AUs or bully anyone over this, or you'll be disqualified

how were ell and gio with early parenthood?

They managed very well!

Their kids really weren’t any less energetic than them and their respective siblings growing up, but the difference between them and Pim is that they could keep up with the little rascals. They’re athletes by nature and planned for their kids to be just as active, so they built lots of play structures in their backyard and even the house itself so they’d never run out of ways to tire themselves out. They also put them in all kinds of baby exercise classes right from the time Linguina was a year old, so they not only prepared for them to be active but actively encouraged it.

They also had (and still have) a really good division of labor going. Teamwork is a big part of sportsmanship and those values carried over into their parenting style. Ell is the one who does most of the chasing and Giorno does all the heavy lifting, playing to their individual strengths. Pim had a harder time because he insisted on taking on 99% of the workload, while Ell and Gio are truly 50/50. (“Ell babe do you even have a mom?”) Gio in particular really threw himself into fatherhood from the moment they found out they were expecting their first child. He is very proud of his reputation as a pillar of strength and strives to keep that up even outside of the athletic arena. Carrying a baby to bed is just as much a show of strength as any deadlift. He didn’t think he could feel so much tenderness until he held Linguina in his arms for the first time but now he’s fully committed to it, as it’s all part of being a husband and father. Ell also had the new parent feels, but her strength lies in keeping things fun. A lot of the play structures and baby classes were her idea as she knows what it was like to be a kid who never got tired. She gave her kids everything she wanted and made it her life’s mission to ensure they’d never know boredom. Plus she and Gio made sure to keep things fun between each other…

…which is partly why they didn’t stop at four kids. These two had such a good system that parenthood was a little “too” easy, so they just kept going. While they were never not efficient, things definitely got harder than they bargained for. They prepared for things to get noisier and more chaotic, they knew there’d be more activities to cart the kids around to, but they didn’t anticipate one of their kids almost dying, birthing three babies in less than a year, or having to guide their little ones through so many emotional challenges. Neither will ever regret having that many kids, and they still somehow manage to be less exhausted than Pim, but once they hit double digits it was time for a vasectomy lol

Vayu's hands were always warm. Calloused and strong, but never anything less than gentle when holding Iago's own - it was nice. Nice enough that when they laid beside him, facing him with their hands between them, they could almost fall right asleep. Almost. They're still awake when he speaks and open an eye to see what he's referring to.

His fingers trace over their own, stopping over the pale, jagged rings around the knuckles of their pointer and middle fingers.

Their hand twitches and they frown as if scolding it.

"Oh, you know how familial spats can get," they respond, morbidly lighthearted. Before they hastily add - "Not Puck."

They flex those fingers a few times before continuing flatly, "The other Bhaalspawn, Orin got bored one day and ran off with them. She isn't exactly known for her sportsmanship, though, so she refused to give me a single hint where she hid them. Not even a riddle. Where's the fun in that?"

Puck was able to find where she hid the digits around the temple before they had gone completely cold and dead, thankfully. The process of reattaching them isn't anything Iago ever wants to go through or think about again, but the only lasting damage is the ache when it rains ( most of Iago aches when it rains, though, so that isn't saying much ). They close their eyes again and tap those fingers against Vayu's palm, "You would think a riddle would be common courtesy."

Rouge ran through G.U.N. headquarters, muscling past the numerous soldiers, analysts and techs racing through in a borderline panic. Security throughout every story of the base, subsurface and otherwise, were working frantically to double-check every measure and preemptively engage the highest danger protocols.

For good reason.

The imminent threat of Sonic.

Rouge had no intention of sticking around, let alone partaking in the defense of headquarters. She wasn't the type to pledge loyalty to an employer, government or otherwise.

She'd come to actually like a few people she worked with, Roque chief among them; while she hardly suffered from Shadow's conscience, she'd at least make an effort to minimize the destruction before she bailed.

The universal speakers crackled for a moment throughout the corridors.

"Good afternoon, my hapless government goons."

Her ears twitched at the sound of Eggman's voice; a bad feeling took root in her stomach.

She ran faster.

"Your blunder has come to my attention; and such a magnificent blunder indeed. You've invited quite dire consequences onto yourselves."

Rouge unfurled her wings to fly over the dopes who'd frozen in the halls, paralyzed by nerves and the smug tone in the doctor's voice.

"Desperate as you must be for a hand, Commander Tower, I cannot lend it to you. Even I can't predict the repercussions of even a tangential connection to you after this morning."

She slipped through the closing doors of an elevator before they were locked down to limit movement within the base; she dove down the shaft and swung out onto the floor below.

"In the interest of sportsmanship, however, I will impart a word of advice."

She burst through the doors of the central communication hub and command center.

"Commander-!"

"Unconditional surrender."

Rouge clenched her fist and chomped down on her bottom lip.

"That's your surest avenue for survival. You won't come out unscathed, of course, but at least you'll be intact."

She was too late.

The broadcast ended with the sound of Eggman's laugh; doubtless he hadn't left so much as a trace of his brief digital presence.

'Fuck.'

She couldn't say the doctor lacked fangs. His 'advice' matched nearly word for word what she'd come to tell Tower herself. Even enraged, Sonic would. . . probably hesitate dealing with someone who put up no resistance.

Of course, the same advice provoked a different reaction coming from Eggman than it would have coming from her.

"We will not be cowed by the word of a terrorist!" Tower barked, slamming his fist on a console.

Rouge sighed. Eggman had seen the opportunity to seal G.U.N.'s fate, and ruthlessly taken it.

"Commander," she said, demanding his ear. "Get rid of any chaos emeralds on the premises. They function as a weapon for Sonic the hedgehog just as well, if not better, than they do for G.U.N."

Tower's grim, frustrated glower slowly turned toward her.

"Noted, agent Rouge."

Rouge sighed inwardly; gave Tower a nod, resigned to the fact that it might be her last interaction with him, and she turned on her heel for the door to tie up the last of her loose ends.

ART CONTEST!!! - Frieza and Frost’s Fashion Show!!

So, I’m very much burnt out from writing (at least from my big stories, I’ll probably still drop occasional oneshots) and am taking a small hiatus. But turns hiatus can be a bit boring. So how am I gonna change that?

By hosting a random art contest for fun!!

I thought this might be a fun little thing to drop. No idea how many participants they’ll actually be, but we’ll see 😁😁.

So, here’s how it’ll work. The theme will be my two fav bois, Frieza and Frost. Specifically, with the two of them wearing cute outfits that you guys come up with! There will be a time limit of one week (meaning March 26th, 2024 is the due date). And when that day comes, I’ll share everyone’s drawings in giant post - make it a little “fashion show” for everyone to see! And then the next day, I’ll set up votes so YOU guys can vote on the winner!

I’m gonna have votes set up for different categories too, such as “cutest outfits” or “most unique outfits” that people can also vote on. But the main winner at the end will get to request a drawing from me - on any character, fandom, or ship they want!

There are gonna be a few rules, but really it’s more like a guideline on the contest:

You don’t have to draw ship art of Frieza and Frost together - just a simple piece with these two wearing an outfit of your choice will suffice, or even two separate pics of each individual character will work (that said, ship art is welcome too).

They don’t have to wear matching outfits, have them wear whatever you come up with.

You are not limited just because both characters are male - you can dress them up in either male or female outfits, but they both only require ONE outfit each.

If you want to dress them up in outfits from a crossover show (for example, dress Frieza up as Alastor from Hazbin Hotel, etc) you can absolutely do that.

You can have Frieza and Frost be in any form you want - obviously most people recognize their final forms, but I’d be delighted to see them in their first forms, or Frieza in Golden Form.

Art can be digital or on paper, you’re free to choose.

You don’t have to follow me to participate - everyone is welcome!

Okay, now for the ACTUAL rules: please keep your outfits and drawings PG-13. I don’t know how many minors actually follow me, or look at my content, but I wanna make this available to everyone.

Leave some sort of signature on your art. I know most artists do anyway, but I don’t want anyone’s art to get stolen.

No AI art. I shouldn’t have to explain why.

And finally, please show good sportsmanship. No matter what category someone wins, or who wins the contest at the end, the point of this is just to have fun and show the creativity of many artists! If I catch word any any artists harassing me or other artists for any reason related to the contest, your art will immediately be disqualified. No if, ands, or buts. Be respectful.

Cyberchase Character Discussion (for your local Cyberchase trivia quiz) - #1: Inez

Since I have been archiving data from the Cyberchase section of the old pbskids.org website for the FlashPoint Archive Project lately, I thought should share some content I have dug up, particularly information that was provided on the different characters. Much of the information is no longer on the site. While much of it is available in the FlashPoint Archive Project now, and I would consider the project easy to look into and setup, not everyone will take the time to do so. #1: Inez I figure the best place to start is with her official "Meet the Cybersquad" character bio from back in the day. This was placed on the pbskids.org website way back in 2001, before the series initially started airing in 2002. This is no longer on the pbskids.org site, so I can't promise that it is still canon.

So, we start off learning that Inez is the youngest of the group, at nine years old. We never see the kids in school together, but I would not be surprised if Inez jumped forward a grade or two. The page emphasizes her curiosity. Now, would you call the parkway vs. driveway thing pedantic? For me: no comment.

The second page tells us that her favorite color is purple, her favorite food are popcorn and mangoes, and her favorite book in "By the Shores of Silver Lake", by Laura Ingalls Wilder. That is part of Wilder's autobiographical "Little House on the Prarie" series, with this particular book being published in 1939. I know its a classic that has been republished numerous times, but I do find it interesting that she went for such an old book. Her favorite music is by Mac Anthony. The page doesn't mention specific genres, and Marc Anthony has done several different genres over the years. I don't know his discography very well, but it looks like he was best known for Latin Salsa in the late 1990s and early 2000s, so that's probably her favorite music genre overall.

The third page tells us that her favorite move is "Harry Potter", as she loves Hermione Granger. Because this bio came out in 2001, only Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone would have been released as a movie at the time.

Her pet peeves are listed as heights, bad sportsmanship, and whenever Matt calls her "Nezzie". According to TVTropes, she did conquer her fear of heights by the time The Cyberchase Movie came out. She has one pet, her cat, Gatito. We do see Gatito in a few episodes of the show.

Now, there's something odd about Inez's design on the "Meet the Cybersquad" page. The star on her shirt is purple, as opposed to the yellow we got in the show. I'm not sure how this happened, as Inez had the yellow star as far back as the 1999 pilot.

This reminds me of another piece of trivia. During Season 4 Episode 2 "The Icky Factor", the kids get wetsuits for the first time, as they need to swim around Aquari-yum. They had already been to Aquari-yum twice by this point. However, they stayed in the sub the whole time during Season 1 Episode 16 "Codename Icky". Then, during Season 3 Episode 6 "The Grapes of Plath", they just wore their regular clothes with a bubble helmet to walk around the bottom of the bowl.

Look at their wetsuits. Matt gets plain blue wetsuit, Jackie gets a plain yellow wetsuit, and Digit gets a plain orange wetsuit. Inez gets a green wetsuit with a yellow star on the front and a purple vest. I like this detail. It's about as close to matching her color scheme as they could get without making the top half of the wetsuit pink, which would have just been weird. Maybe a full pink wetsuit would have been a little better? I don't know. If they did that, she would be missing out on the green from her shorts

Anyway, the next piece to look at is this page from Cyberchase: How It All Started: Webisode 3. This was an official prequel web comic that come out before the show started airing, so its a little off. I promise that this is the original image without any edits.

They got her skin-tone and hair color very wrong, as they showed her as white with red hair. The lenses on her glasses aren't as opaque. They did get the yellow star right this time, but I would consider her skin tone to be far more important. I would love to hear the story of how this mix-up happened. You know what? I'll add my attempt at fixing their mistake below, based on skin, hair, and glasses colors picked from "Meet the Cybersquad". I don't have much GIMP experience, but I think I did a pretty good job.

Anyway, the main reason I brought this image up was that she is noted as being a computer whiz who loves to go on the Internet. As far as I remember, she never uses her computer skills in the show, probably because they played it so fast and loose with the terminology.

So, that first image only showed her from the waist-up, but we do get a shot of her riding her bike to the library to meet her new friends and start the first episode. They did it again.

I honestly wouldn't care if it was just the shirt, vest, or shorts being the wrong color. Alright, I have added a color-corrected version below.

The second page gives us "Oh no, this is not good at all!" That is the prototype for her iconic phrase: "This is not good! This is not good at all!".

Did you know that on her way to the library, Inez road her bike all over town to run other errands? She went to Betty's House, the Post Office, and the Video (VHS) store before arriving at the library just in time to make some new friends and upload her mind into the Internet.

As far as character trivia goes, Cyberchase did have official printable trading cards. Here's the one for Nezzie. I love this card. One of her favorite things is E-mail. Her other favorite things include experiments and big words, but we all knew that already. They picked a more optimistic, but less iconic, favorite line for her with, "Hey, I've got an idea!" rather than "This is not good! This is not good at all!". She is great at basketball, which may be surprising to some, given her height. We'll come back to that. She is also great at reading, standing up for herself, and singing. We do get to hear her sing "Brahm's Lullaby" in Spanish for Chewcrocca's baby during Season 3 Episode 1 "EcoHaven CSE".

I can think of two pieces of official Cyberchase media related to Basketball. There was Season 6 Episode 7 "Jimaya Jam", which had a sport of the same name, except it took away dribbling. However, Inez was actually separated from the group at the time, with Creech taking over her role during the Jimaya Jam game. Presumably, Inez was just too powerful.

The second piece is from the singular Cyberchae chapter book, "The Search for the Power Orb". The story actually starts with Inez playing basketball against Matt. She is frustrated that he is able to block her shots due to his clear height advantage, and his teasing about her height doesn't help. Towards the end of the story, they retrieve the titular Power Orb, which is roughly the size of a basketball. It needs to go back into its basket to save Cybersite Serentia from complete deletion. Inez is able to use her short stature to run between The Hacker's legs, get a boost from Izzy, and slam dunk the Power Orb.

What else? I found this early concept art on the Cyberchase wiki. It seems like the biggest change was the style for her boots.

There is also this write-up from a "Who's Who" document. I don't know whether this was always available to the public, or if this was an internal document when they were developing and pitching the show. It doesn't add too much information to what I already posted, but it does state their intent to make her a tomboy, and it talks about her tendency to giggle, give inspirational quotes and stand on her head.

I figure no Inez compilation is complete without her standing on her head at some point. Here she is in Season 2 Episode 12 "The Guilty Party" flinging herself out of a handstand, twisting around, and landing on her feet.

The Dark Side of the Olympic Games: Anti Doping Agency Scam.

Did you know Olympic Anti Doping agency WADA is controlled by U.S. and it allows 3 countries to hold 63% of all Therapeutic DRUG use exemptions and the same 3 countries hold most number of medal tally.

The agency itself is set up with the sole purpose to enable massive doping of the US/Western athletes and to forbid and target other athletes in the name of anti-doping. 

Athletes can legally dope themselves with performance-enhancing drugs, all under the guise of "medical treatment."

All thanks to system that World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has created, a system that allows western countries to dominate the medal tally with:

WADA's "exemption list".

This list is a little-known secret that allows athletes to use banned drugs, as long as they get approval. Approval by whom? US controlled WADA.

But here's the catch - the applications are kept private, opening the door for widespread doping. And guess which countries are taking advantage of this loophole? The same three countries that top the medal tally.

If you take a closer look at the numbers. In 2015, 653 American athletes applied for exemptions, with a staggering 60% approval rate. Compare that to Russia, which had a mere 37% approval rate, and China, which had only a single-digit number of approved exemptions.

But that's not all in 2016, the Russian hacker group "Magic Bear" leaked into the WADA database and found that American athletes have been using banned drugs with the help of their own anti-doping agency.

Yes, you read that right - the very agency meant to prevent doping has been enabling it. Over 200 American athletes have received medical exemptions, allowing them to use drugs like synthetic steroids and diuretics.

And it's not just limited to one or two sports. Cycling, athletics, triathlon, swimming, and skiing - all the sports that require peak physical performance - have been hit hard by doping. Even tennis superstars like Serena and Venus Williams have been allowed to take banned drugs, without revealing the medical certificates that justified their use.

WADA's system is a scam. Games should be about fair play and sportsmanship, instead WADA is used as a US weapon to attack adversaries in foreign policy.

I pulled out my Olympics interview fic again and added a bit to it, but i'm still not sure it will ever see the light of day because it does cover a lot of what we've already seen before. I do love writing them reminiscing about the good times, though.

Iris: And that is there where we want to start tonight. Everyone is familiar with your iconic climb up the stadium walls into the Greek section after your gold medal in the one hundred meters at the 2000 Seoul Games. They replay it in most Olympic compilations talking about the most dramatic, unforgettable moments. What most people have forgotten is that you had to apologize for that stunt.

Achilles: I did. They were afraid I would encourage other athletes to do similar things after winning. The IOC takes sportsmanship seriously. Me at seventeen? Not so much.

Iris: There were also rumors about your actual reasons for climbing up that wall. The footage of what happened next hasn’t been saved. Would you care to enlighten us on that?

This was before the widespread use of wifi, YouTube didn’t exist yet, and DVR was still in its early stages from what I remember. One of our teammates had recorded the race on VHS, but after I did what I did, another teammate stole that tape and gave it to Patroclus.

Patroclus: And it sat in a box for years.

Iris: So, you’ve never actually seen this footage?

Achilles: No. Have you, Pat?

Patroclus: No. Never watched it. I’m not even sure where you’d find a VHS player these days.
