—————————————————————
It was a quiet night in Seraph’s housing unit, the explorer drone seated at her desk with her tablet and a stack of papers. She was once again grading student assignments, carefully scanning over each art piece before filling out the digital rubric and moving on.
It was tedious and time-consuming work, but it was something Seraph had grown accustomed to. Plus, she was able to find some joy in it when she noticed one of the students listening to her suggestions and making improvements. Of course, there were still some who refused to properly try, happy to skim through with barely passing grades just to be able to graduate.
A grimace found its’ way to her face as Seraph marked off Darren’s assignment, filling out his rubric before a low groan reached her audio receptors. Her gaze flicked to the ceiling, figuring one of the pipes was settling until her bedroom’s vent grate swung open and a figure dropped in. Seraph snapped up as the sudden visitor landed elegantly on her bed, hardly making a sound as she sat down and kicked her legs over the side.
“Hey, Seraph~” She said, grinning widely. Seraph’s expression quickly turned annoyed.
“V, I told you not to just show up through the vents.” She scolded. “What if I had someone else in here?”
“Free food, I guess.” V replied, still grinning. Seraph annoyed look only deepened, but she simply sighed and leaned one arm against the back of her chair.
“What are you even doing here?” She asked. V merely shrugged.
“Got bored.” She answered bluntly. “N’s asleep, so I’ve got time.” Seraph’s expression changed slightly, seeming less annoyed before turning her attention back to the papers in front of her.
“Well, unfortunately, I’m currently grading papers.” She told her. “So you’ll have to wait until I’m done.” V’s grin faded immediately, and she flopped onto her side on Seraph’s bed.
“Oh come on,” she groaned, “grading papers is boring! Come have fun with me!” Seraph’s processors halted momentarily as a few ideas for ‘fun’ slipped through them, but she shook her head.
“Sorry V, this can’t wait.” She said firmly. “I need to have these all graded by tomorrow.” V’s tail flicked in irritation, a loud sigh escaping her as she rolled onto her back.
“Seriously?” She complained. “It’s Just a bunch of papers! Who cares?”
“The school board.” Seraph replied, not even glancing at her. “And I have to, if I want to keep my job.”
“Well, if I cared about my job, you’d be an oil splatter on the wall right now.” V countered, turning her head and grinning wickedly. Seraph stopped her movements momentarily, the image flashing across her internal screen before she spoke.
“Touché.” She admitted, a sigh following. “Look, I’m about two-thirds done, I just need twenty minutes and then we can do whatever you want.” V perked up slightly at the offer, rolling fully onto her side as her eyes remained focused on the explorer drone. One minute passed, then two, and soon V came to the conclusion that twenty minutes was still too long to wait.
“This is boring.” She whined. Seraph didn’t even look up.
“Then go find something to do.” She said in a deadpan tone. V pouted once more before jumping off of Seraph’s bed, moving right up to the brunette’s side.
“But I want to do something with you!” She grinned, trying to convince her. “Come on, you know you hate this stuff. The stupid school board doesn’t have to know!”
“V, seriously-YEE!” Seraph’s annoyed tone turned to a surprised squeak as V had tried to grab her arm, the murder drone’s fingers accidentally grazing her ribs. The reaction caused V’s eyes to widen, while an embarrassed blush started to form on Seraph’s visor. This stirred a memory in V’s processors, soon realizing what was going on and turning her confused expression into a wicked grin.
“Seraph~” The teasing tone in V’s voice was more than enough and Seraph shoved off her desk, launching herself clean across the room. V grinned excitedly and dove after her, barely missing the explorer drone as she leapt from her chair and rushed out the door.
“Get back here!” V shouted, her hunting programs kicking in as she gave chase. Seraph didn’t even look back as she ran into the main room, sliding under the dining table in a quick attempt to hide. A few seconds passed before claws reached around the underside of the table, earning a startled gasp and sending Seraph rushing out from the other side. V had been hoping for this, however, her tail rushing down and wrapping around Seraph’s ankle before she could get away.
“WH-oomph!” Seraph hit the ground as she was tripped, barely managing to roll over before V pounced on her. Her visor held that iconic ‘X’ before switching back to her usual eyes, but her sinister grin remained.
“Nice try~” She purred as she straddled Seraph’s hips. “I appreciate the little hunt, though~” Seraph opened her mouth to protest, but quickly snapped shut as the tips of V’s claws gently glided down her side. The action sent a rush of tingles through her nerve system, her body twitching as she clamped her hands over her mouth.
“Oh no, you’re not holding out on me~” V spoke as her tail unwound from Seraph’s ankle, her claws changing back to her normal hands and snagging the brunette’s wrists. Seraph tried to hold her arms in place, but V was much stronger and easily pulled them over her head, securing them with her tail so she couldn’t pull them down again.
“V, c-come on!” Seraph managed, a small blush tinting the edges of her visor. “I still have-EEP!” She quickly snapped her mouth shut as V gently wiggled her fingers over her stomach, causing her to squirm.
“Ooh, does someone have a ticklish belly?~” V cooed. “Come on, you’re only making this worse for yourself~ I’ll find the spot that breaks you one way or another~” Her tone caused Seraph’s blush to increase, her eyes shutting as she clenched her jaw to hold back her giggles. Her feet kicked and pushed against the floor, trying to worm her way out from under V, but she didn’t have the strength with the tickling distracting her.
V wasn’t making it easy, either. She moved from Seraph’s stomach to her sides, swirling her fingers in a way that made the explorer drone squeak and thrash. She bit her lip to try and hold her laughter back, but a wobbly smile stretched across her face as she was already starting to near her breaking point.
“Aww, are you gonna laugh?~” V continued teasing as she crept her hands up to Seraph’s ribs. “I just know you’re about to break~ Maybe I should try right… here!~” In a flash, she started spidering her fingers up and down her ribs, catching Seraph by surprise and causing her to squeal. The tickling quickly spread through her nerve system and she started laughing, tossing her head back and kicking her feet against the floor.
“Nooohohoho-haha!” She cried. “V-hehehee!” The murder drone’s grin stretched wide across her face in triumph, her fingers continuing to dance over Seraph’s ribs and earning more laughter.
“There you go!~” She said in a teasingly sweet voice. “Aww, look at you~ You’re just a giggly mess, all from a little tickling~” Seraph’s laughter shot up in pitch in response, a steady line of blush covering the bottom half of her visor.
“Don’t tehehease! Hahaha!” She squealed, trying to hide her face in her arm. “I stihihill have-haha! H-Hahahave wohork to dohoho!” Her pleas were unsurprisingly ignored, as V kept tickling up and down her ribs to find which spots were more sensitive.
“Nope, no work.” She replied simply. “You chose work over me, so now you face the consequences~” She slipped one hand closer to Seraph’s shoulder joint, her fingers grazing under it and earning a loud shriek of laughter.
“NOHOHahAha nahat thehehere!” Seraph howled, her laughter turning into cackling. V took note of the almost psychotic sound that her laugh held, finding it rather endearing and wanting to hear more.
“Not where?~” She replied, acting oblivious. “You mean here?~” She moved both hands up and started tickling under Seraph’s shoulder joints, earning more hysterical cackles. The explorer drone was slamming her feet against the floor at this point, tossing her head from side to side as the tickling overwhelmed her nerve system.
“V-HEHEHAHAHAA!” Seraph’s laughter echoed throughout the unit, her visor glowing from her blush and a wide grin spread across her face. V wound up staring at her for a moment, a faint blush dusting her own visor before she collected herself and chuckled.
“Seems I’ll have to keep a memory file on this spot~” She mused, continuing to trace and tickle under her shoulder joint. “Especially if it allows me to hear your adorable laugh~” Much to her surprise, Seraph shook her head even faster in disagreement.
“IHIHIT’S NAHAHAAT!” She managed, causing V’s eyes to widen. A spark of challenge went off in her processors, and she pressed her fingers a bit harder against the sensitive spot.
“Are you really trying to argue with me right now?” She questioned. “Maybe I’ll just have to keep tickling you until you admit your laugh is cute~” She didn’t give Seraph a chance to respond as she sped up her movements, skittering under her shoulder joints and over her ribs in a full-on tickle attack. A loud shriek escaped Seraph’s voice box as a result, soon dissolving into frantic cackling and thrashing.
“NAAAHAHAHAHAHA V-HEHEHEE!!” She could hardly speak from how hard she was laughing, her visor practically glowing from her blush. V could feel her trying to pull her arms out from her tail’s grip, prompting her to tighten her hold just a bit more.
“All you have to do is admit it and I’ll let you go~” V practically singsonged as she kept tickling, keeping note of which spots got stronger reactions and focusing on them. Despite how hard she was laughing, Seraph seemed determined to hold out, not wanting to give in and tell V what she wanted to hear. It was clear her nerve system was getting overstimulated though, as her visor briefly flashed with a warning symbol that prompted V to slow down.
“Wow, you’d rather face overstimulation than admit it?” She said, both impressed and concerned. Her hands remained still over Seraph’s ribs, but the explorer drone was still able to calm down and catch her breath.
“My… m-my laugh is not adorable.” She managed, panting. “A-And you started this! I was just trying to do my work, but you pulled me away from it!” V’s expression quickly turned to a pout.
“Oh come on, you and I both know this is more fun than work!” She argued. Seraph opened her mouth to protest, but her voice box failed and she blushed again. She shut her mouth and turned her gaze to the side, the silent action telling V all she needed to know.
“See? You agree with me.” She said, a smug grin crossing her face. Seraph’s blush worsened further, but she let out a small sigh and looked back up at V.
“Okay, yeah, I do.” She admitted. “But I still have work to finish, V.” The murder drone gained a look of annoyance, clearly not happy with Seraph’s response. The brunette felt the hands on her ribs twitch slightly, and she realized she had to act fast.
“Look, I’ll be as quick as I can!” She tried. “And once it’s done, I can give you all the attention you want! Promise!” V’s hands remained still again, and she quirked an eyebrow while scanning Seraph’s face.
“You promise?” She pushed. Seraph quickly nodded, a slightly nervous expression crossing her features before she felt V’s tail loosen. Her arms were soon freed, and V slid off of her to allow the explorer drone to get back to her feet.
“Fine, but you better be quick.” V told her, standing up. Seraph got up off the floor and gave her a thankful smile.
“I will.” She assured her. “I’ll be no more than fifteen minutes.” V still held an annoyed expression, but she nodded once, reluctantly agreeing. Seraph felt a wave of relief at this, her smile growing.
“Oh, I’m locking the door though.”
By the time V processed what Seraph had said, the explorer had already rushed back into her room, the door shutting behind her. V ran up and tried to pry it open, but it held firm, proving she’d been too late.
“Seraph!” She shouted, hearing the brunette’s laughter on the other side. She let out a growl before folding her arms, glaring through the small window on the steel door.
“If you’re not out in fifteen minutes, I’m coming back through the vents!” She warned. Seraph only giggled in response, but she knew better than to test V and quickly got back to work. She pulled up the next assignment and got to grading, one thought hanging at the back of her processors as she did.
She definitely hoped V would want attention more often.

Other Sides of the Coin
That phrase is the guiding philosophy for my computer collection: lets unpack it.
First off, I've been around PC's all my life. While I don't remember it, the family's XT clone, then a 486 and onwards. I know PC's in and out. While they are fascinating machines in their own right, they aren't the only computers out there.
So what is out there? Many systems, all shapes and sizes, commercial and enterprise machines that never see the light of day until they are scrapped and the consumer machines meant for the home. For me the commerical and enterprise machines don't hold that much allure, they are curiosities for sure and one of two of them may find their way into my collection but that's for later. I focus on consumer machines currently.
But wait, there are many of those machines!? How do I keep myself from drowning in silicon and rocks we tricked to think?
Representatives.
You'll see this more in the earlier systems that had a vast array of systems that either competed with the example in my collection or preceded it. CP/M systems were many in a vibrant competitive ecosystem, I simply cannot own an example of every kind that is out there, so instead I settle on a well known unit and say it represents what the other units are.
Lastly, I sort the collection into bittiness and while my decisions are arbitrary and subjective, there is method behind them:
8 Bit Systems: Everyone will think of systems like the C64 but I also class systems like the PC/XT and the TI99/4a in the same category.
Limited color palettes and sounds
expectation to load software from 5.25" disks, cassette tape or cartridge ROM's.
BASIC in ROM.
Majority of the IO or internal operations done in 8 bits.
Limited RAM to 1MB or less.
Examples in my collection:
Commadore C64/C128
IBM PC/XT
Apple IIeP (Representative for the Apple II line)
Kaypro 4-84(Representative for the CP/M ecosystem.)
Texas Instruments TI99/4a
Timex Sinclare 1000
Missing:
Atari 8 bit. :(
16 Bit Systems: Here the lines start to blur and you'll see why.
Enhanced colors and sounds
Expected to load software from hard drives and 3.5" disks, gone are cassettes and cartridges for computers.
Faster CPU's
Majority of the system conducts itself in 16 bit operations.
RAM expanding above 1MB.
Expected to run GUI's
Examples:
Commadore Amiga 1000
Atari ST520
Apple IIgs (16 bit CPU but does everything in 8 bits)
Apple Mac Plus
IBM PC/AT (HA)
Clone PC/386 (full 32 bit CPU but all IO is 16 bits)
32 Bit Systems (Early)
Why do I say early? The 386 is a 32 bit CPU, but it's in the 16 bit category. And to that, I say the 386 didn't have a standard 32 bit expansion slot for it to use, a CPU like the 486 had two.
High color resolutions, and high fidelity sound capabilities.
Hard drives are standard equipment now.
CPU's pushing mid double digit speeds.
Multiple megabytes of RAM are expected
GUI's and multimedia.
CD-ROM is the new hotness
Examples:
Gateway 2000 4dx2/66V
Apple Performa 630CD
Missing:
Commadore Amiga 2000/3000
Atari Falcon
32 Bit Systems (Late)
At this point we are seeing the foundations of the modern computers as we know them today.
Unlimited Colors and Resolutions
Hard drives pushing dozens of gigabytes
RAM in the hundreds of Megabytes
Advanced CPU's with SIMD instructions running at several hundreds of Mhz.
Advanced OS's
Examples:
Compaq Deskpro EN866
Apple Imac G3(750)
Missing:
To be decided
The tail end:
Here the lines blur to the point it's difficult to call, so it's here where I plant the end of my collection, at least for now.
The modern computer as we know it has been invented and we start to shed the legacy of decades of computers that came before them. It is here that the coin has become flat. Apple is still doing their own thing with the Power PC's but will soon drop them in favor of x86. Intel is scratching it's head at the Pentium 4, AMD is ruling the roost with it's wildly successful Athlon processor.
There may be a home for systems in this era in the future as memories coalesces into nostalgia. There is already a root forming with two systems that blur the late 32 bit system lines, a Pentium 4 XP box and a Sawtooth G4.
Perhaps I'll get a G5. That would really blur the lines.
Thank you for reading.
Here is were I will put my wish list. Some of these systems are my biege whales, I would love an Amiga 4000T but at the costs of these machines, it is unlikely without shelling out as much as a decent used car.
Commadore Amiga 4000T
This machine doesn't have a direct comparison with either a PC or a Macintosh, but there are contemporary machines that would be added to the collection with it.
IMSAI or Altair 8800
Mostly for it's front panel toggling goodness. I'd reasonably be just as happy with something like a modern clone for me to twiddle the switches but still have something usable afterwards.

Crossfire M9PLUS DSP Review: Upgrade Crisp Car Audio
Tumblr media
It's about time to say goodbye to my 8-year-old Match DSP in the previous car audio setup, as the old DSP has shown some faulty symptoms for over 2 years. I have had the Match DSP repaired twice due to an internal IC component problem, but the issue keeps coming back, resulting in no sound from the right speaker. I've had enough and decided to find a new standalone digital sound processor that is affordable and won't break my bank. I stumbled upon the locally made Crossfire M9Plus DSP and would like to give it a try.The build of the Crossfire M9Plus DSP sound processor caught my attention. It comes in a matte green color and has a solid metal case. Known as the CF-M9PLUS, the 8-channel DSP features include a built-in 4.2 lossless Bluetooth and SQ player, 31 Band floating Point EQ, mobile phone and PC accuracy tuning, built-in media player USB Port, digital crossover functions, and many more. While there are other Crossfire DSP models that have built-in amplifiers, my installer suggested I get the M9Plus standalone DSP since I already have a Rockford Fosgate 4-channel amplifier. I've also upgraded to Morel 2.5-inch full-range speakers, which I currently have mounted on my original pillar.
The Crossfire M9plus DSP - High-Definition Lossless Car Digital Audio
The Crossfire DSP stands out as a high-definition lossless car digital audio player, designed to elevate your in-car audio experience to new heights. It brings exceptional sound quality by playing USB Audio high-definition digital audio and supporting Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity. This means you can enjoy your favorite music with unparalleled clarity and fidelity, regardless of the source. At the heart of the M9plus DSP lies an advanced 8-channel Digital Signal Processor (DSP). This powerful component enables precise signal processing, resulting in a cleaner background and more transparent sound. With this DSP, you have the ability to finely tune your audio output, tailoring it to your preferences and the acoustics of your vehicle's interior.Tailoring your audio to perfection is made possible with the Crossfire DSP's impressive equalization and filtering capabilities. It features a 31-band EQ (Equalizer) that allows you to adjust the audio output with remarkable precision, with resolution down to 0.1dB. Additionally, each output is equipped with full active high and low pass filtering, offering three professional filtering types and adjustable slopes.
Optional SQ Player
The M9Plus DSP offers a range of connectivity features, including Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless audio streaming. Additionally, it supports USB Audio HD lossless digital music playback, allowing you to enjoy your favorite tunes via apps and devices. This connectivity ensures that you can seamlessly integrate your preferred audio sources into your in-car experience. The Crossfire DSP comes with an optional SQ Player/remote control CF-R10 that can be connected, controlled, and used to play Hi-Res audio directly from USB ports, the head unit, and other audio sources. The small SQ player comes with volume control, previous/next track selection, and 6 music mode switches, including Player, High, AUX, and Bluetooth. Playing music directly from a USB drive provides better sound quality than streaming music from your mobile phone and will sound slightly better than playing from a standard head unit.
The Test on Crossfire DSP
As usual, RS-Pro Auto Accessories in Kepong, an award-winning car accessories shop in Malaysia, fine-tuned this setup, and I may return to Keong for another round of fine-tuning for the new DSP.Regarding audio testing on the Crossfire M9plus DSP, I tested it using a USB drive loaded with FLAC audio files, ranging from K-pop ballads and jazz to pop music, and my new DSP really shines. The sound is bright, and the vocals are clear. However, some fine-tuning still needs to be done compared to my previous Match DSP tuning. The audio settings for M9Plus prioritize bright vocals, making it necessary for me to turn up the volume to hear the bass. While assessing Taeyeon's Top Hits playlist for vocals testing, I found some songs sound bright with my Morel full-range speaker. I am not sure whether it is the tuning or the source file, but I will test it more and listen for a while before going back to the tuner for a second round of fine-tuning. You know, the first tuning is only a starting point.
My Current SQ Setup
- Rockford Fosgate 4-channel amplifier - Morel 2.5" Full Range Speaker - Morel Maximo 6.5" Component Speakers - Crossfire M9Plus DSP - Monoblock Amplifier - Rockford Fosgate 10" Subwoofer
Conclusion
In the end, I am quite satisfied with the newly installed DSP and am having fun listening to my favorite music in my car. With the SQ Player controller, I can play FLAC music directly from a USB drive, which makes it convenient and easy to get high-quality music in the meantime.Installing the Crossfire DSP is a breeze, thanks to its dedicated wiring harness. You can find out and learn how SQ car audio works. This harness is specifically designed for seamless integration into your vehicle's audio system, ensuring that the installation process does not require breaking or modifying existing wires. How Does My Car Audio System Work?
Have you ever wondered about the inner workings of your car audio system? It's the source of your favorite tunes, but do you know how it all comes together to deliver music on the go? In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at the fascinating world of car audio systems. From the head unit to the speakers and amplifiers, we'll unravel the magic behind the scenes and explore how each component contributes to creating an immersive and enjoyable listening experience.
The Head Unit
The head unit, also known as the car stereo or receiver, serves as the control center of your car audio system. It typically consists of a radio tuner, CD player, and various input options such as auxiliary ports or USB connections. The head unit receives audio signals from different sources, processes them, and sends them to the amplifiers for amplification.
Amplifiers
Amplifiers play a crucial role in the car audio system by boosting the low-level audio signals received from the head unit. They enhance the power of the signals, allowing them to drive the speakers with greater clarity and volume. Amplifiers come in different configurations, such as single-channel (mono) amplifiers for subwoofers and multi-channel amplifiers for speakers. They are typically installed in the trunk or under the seats, closer to the speakers they power.
Speakers
Speakers are responsible for converting electrical signals into sound waves that we can hear. They consist of several components, including a cone, voice coil, magnet, and surround. When the amplified audio signal reaches the speaker, the voice coil interacts with the magnetic field produced by the magnet, causing the cone to vibrate and produce sound. Different types of speakers, such as tweeters, woofers, and subwoofers, are designed to reproduce specific frequency ranges, resulting in a well-balanced and immersive audio experience.
Wiring and Connectivity
Wiring and connectivity play a crucial role in ensuring seamless communication between the various components of your car audio system. Thick gauge speaker wires are used to transmit the amplified audio signals from the amplifiers to the speakers, minimizing resistance and signal loss. RCA cables carry the audio signals from the head unit to the amplifiers. Additionally, power and ground wires provide the necessary electrical current to power the system.
Sound Processing and Equalization
To further enhance the audio quality and tailor it to your preferences, car audio systems often feature sound processing tools. Digital signal processors (DSPs) allow for precise equalization, time alignment, and other adjustments to optimize the sound output based on the acoustic characteristics of your car's interior. Equalizers help fine-tune the frequency response, allowing you to emphasize or reduce certain frequencies to suit your taste.
Understanding how your car audio system works can deepen your appreciation for the technology behind it. From the head unit that controls the audio sources to the amplifiers that boost the signals, and the speakers that bring the music to life, each component plays a vital role in creating an immersive and enjoyable listening experience. By grasping the fundamentals of your car audio system, you can make informed decisions when upgrading or troubleshooting, ultimately maximizing your enjoyment of music on the go. So, sit back, turn up the volume, and let the magic of your car audio system transport you into a world of musical bliss.

Pride Before a Fall
Pairing: Megatron/Optimus Rating: G Word count: 1178
* To have Orion Pax back was something Megatron could have never predicted nor prepared for. Of course he was nothing if not adaptable, but the situation made him feel like Primus Themselves was mocking him while also reminding him of how old he was. Still, he would have been a fool not to take advantage of one of Iacon’s famed archivists, especially when the code giving him trouble was Iaconian in origin.
But for all his confidence, Megatron still stood outside the cabin he had put Orion in to work on one of the computer modules. He had to admit that he was hesitating, two energon cubes in servo and unsure what to expect or how to go forward. He gritted his dentae and thought furiously. It wasn’t simply Orion who had changed over the eons of war, and not even just for the designation and the Matrix, but Megatron had changed too. Megatron had been just a simple miner turned gladiator back then, but now he was an accomplished warlord, a great warrior like no other, stronger and more ruthless than he could have even dreamed himself. It had been so long since he’d been scrambling for support, drafting his army and only dreaming of a revolution, that he didn’t even remember what it had been like. Standing alone in the dark hallway of his warship and hesitating, Megatron tried to remember the mech Orion was expecting to see. Of course Orion wouldn’t question much, he must have been confused and uncertain as well having had so much of his processor rearranged suddenly, but no matter how confused he would still see that the humble revolutionary Megatronus and the warlord Megatron were just as different as Orion Pax and Optimus Prime were. For now his story was holding up, but for how long he couldn’t tell. Still no matter the case, head on towards the challenge was his main tactic, so after a moment of bracing, Megatron simply opened the door and stepped inside. The air was slightly warmer inside with the computer module active, all its units humming and screens bright. Orion Pax stood with his back to Megatron, his digits flying over the keys, feeding in command after command, then switching to a new window to fix this or that line of code, browsing to the exact correct spot through thousands and thousands of lines. “Spare a moment for refueling, old friend,” Megatron suggested, pretending like he wasn’t impatient. “Surely your work can wait for you to regain your strength.” Orion looked over his shoulder and smiled at him. The glow of his blue optics was soft and kind in a way Megatron had forgotten. It was a startling sight. “Yes, of course,” Orion easily replied, his voice lighter than it had been in so very long. Only now Megatron realized that it wasn’t due to any physical alteration that Optimus sounded different, simply to grim exhaustion and jadedness, all things that Orion Pax lacked. Orion let his servos slide off the console and he turned. “Thank you for your consideration, Megatronus. You are very thoughtful.” “Some things don’t change,” Megatron replied, offering one cube to Orion when he approached and got a smile in return. It was curious to see Orion on Optimus’ face. It was disorienting to see all the marks of eons of travel and war on a face that also wore an unburdened, easy smile. Together they walked over to the side of the room and sat on a windowsill type of a niche in the wall, a window seat without a window, and drank the energon together. Megatron wasn’t used to company like this. It had been a good while since he had shared a meal with anyone, and he could count the times he had been friendly with anyone in his whole lifetime with the digits of one servo. Company like this wasn’t for him, nor for the life he was supposed to lead. Megatron felt a foreign kind of awkwardness while sitting there, sipping energon and keeping company to an old friend behind the face of his oldest enemy. Some part of him expected the illusion to collapse onto itself and its own absurdity, but by every passing moment it didn’t, his pride in himself grew. “You know, Lord Megatronus,” Orion said suddenly with the deep rumble of Optimus’ voice, barely suppressing a laugh at the title, “it still confuses me, how much has changed while I was in stasis.” Megatron elected to ignore the friendly humour, simply grunted as a sign that he was listening. Orion seemed relaxed, leaning back against the wall with his ankles crossed. “Many things are still too much for me, like… How such a dear friend
like… Well, you know, you filled me in, after all,” he said, momentarily saddened but once again cheerier when he continued: “But you are such a relief to have.” Megatron was in mid-sip, but turned to glance at Orion and nearly inhaled fuel down a wrong pipe. Orion’s softly glowing blue optics were focused on him in a piercing way that made his whole face light up in all of its true age and weariness. For a klik it was Optimus looking back at Megatron, and with a friendly, curious look in his optics. “Glad to be here,” Megatron managed to force out. Orion smiled. It was an expression Megatron had never seen before, not on this old, scarred face, and it did something concerning to his spark. “You know…” Orion started, “I was truly worried at first about how much you have changed. I am suddenly so far away from the home that is no more, all alone and without the first clue about what is happening or what I should so… You are the only thing that is familiar, and even you must be completely different from those times.” “Such is war, I suppose,” Megatron drily chuckled. Orion joined in on the laugh, but in a way that left Megatron feeling left out of the joke. “You know, ‘Lord’ Megatronus, when you were the terrifying Champion of Kaon, I was never afraid of you,” Orion suddenly confessed with a slight smile on his face. “And even now, looking at you as you are, lord and master and leader, I’m still not afraid. There’s nothing about you that intimidates me or makes me afraid.” He tilted his helm, and a youthful smile from the past lit up on his face. “It makes me glad, Megatronus.” It felt like a cloak had been shed, and Megatron didn’t know what to make of the feeling of sudden bareness he felt. He only stood his ground and kept his face as it was, still and emotionless, still confident in his façade. “What does?” he asked, giving in to curiosity even when at the same time he knew it was a move against himself. Orion simply smiled his ageless, beautiful smile, the soft blue of his optics glowing deep and unattainable. “You haven’t changed at all, my dear friend.”

Heya I see requests are open for a bit longer so if it wouldn’t be much of a hassle could I ask for TFP Soundwave with a ftm S/O with tentacles and sex pollen. Thank you so much!
Hopefuly you enjoy and thank you for your patience!💥~Gregoria🏩
............................. ....................... ............................
The man was not even supposed to be here with him. The only reason Soundwave hadn't swiftly sent him back onto the Nemesis with a ground bridge was because they were both too busy to spend time with each other while onboard. So a walk in the woods wouldn't hurt, right?
Until they came across the wrecker and his charge.
Before he had the chance to properly launch the autobot pet away from himself, her guardian slammed into him with such force the tree they crashed into snapped in half, falling right on top of him.
His fans stalled and sputtered, the pollen caking his insides while the autobot made a hasty retreat. His wires began tingling, charge rising to the surface with both the overheating of his frame and the strange aroma the yellow powder was producing.
Soundwave felt a surge up his spinal strut, his plating shifting open wider as the temperature of his systems began to climb. His cables unfurled, sensitive tentacles waving away the particles clinging to them, and began swinging wildly around, searching. It collided with the human and coiled around his body, dragging him closer to Soundwave's obstructed visor. Hands scraped the annoying particles away, bringing his partner's worried gaze into focus.
"Hey, you okay there big guy?"
His question was answered when the heat of Soundwaves systems swelled once again, rushing through him in a wave. His systems decided that expelling the substance from his internals was a higher priority than confirmation of his well being. His vents blasted air and dust in quick successions, his vocaliser spitting a string of garbled synths. Whatever the intended action was, it did not take care of the problem, since his human began hacking away as well, his eyes watering from the irritant and other organic matter spread on the forest floor.
In the end, it took him three resets of his processor for him to register his partner was looking up at him, cheeks flushed, hair sticking everywhere and caked in the fine yellow particles.
"Stay here, I'll see if I can get a hold of the others."
Tentacle coiled tighter around his body, feelers twitching with the charge. It just wasn't leaving the systems as it should, instead trapped in a seemingly endless loop. And he did not want him leaving.
"Soundwave?"
His array pulsed painfully beneath his plating, and he let out a broken crackle of a noise.
He could see the man swallow, his throat bobbing, voice cracking slightly when he repeated himself, asking about his well being. It's been lowering in pitch over the past few months and the way he sounded now was not helping with the mech's self control.
His servo dug into the earth, digits raking the ground, vents puffing hot air with each moment his optic focused on his boyfriends body. His cables would around his legs, feelers caressing the skin where his groin started.
 "What are you-"
A muffled recording of a porn star crackled from his vocalizer, and in the next moment the pants were torn off, his human pressed against the forest floor, Soundwaves tentacles exploring his lovers sex, sending vibrations against all the right spots , making him gasp out and moan into the touches, back arching as the other tentacle would itself against him, the feelers finding their way into his mouth.
ÂťSuckÂŤ commanded a deep human voice, and his partner got to work immediately. He could feel the throbbing of his cunt, the way his hips twitched , begging for Soundwaves spike, for his transfluid.
With the look his man was giving him, Soundwave was about ready to do exactly that. Unfortunately, his latches were so coated in the organic matter that his mechanisms refused to open. Or maybe it was his frames last attempt at coherency and attempt of keeping at least some part of him safe from the sensation assaulting his whole frame.
So the next best thing had to be used.
The cable shoved itself inside the man's cunt, the force of it sending him skidding alongside the forest floor, a scream muffled by the feelers shoving themselves deeper down his throat, setting a ruthless pace against him, his body being rocked with a speed Soundwave never dared to try with him before. He could feel the man trying to press his tongue between the feelers fucking his throat, the sensation of the appendage against his own sending a surge through Soundwaves spark.
The man's walls clenched around the cable inside of him, and somewhere behind his logical processor pinged him with confirmation of his partner orgasming twice already, attempting to convey something Soundwaves' heat riddled processor could not properly interpret.
At the forefront was only one thing, and that was to breed his human, to have him so spent and stretched by the tentacles, that he won't be able to crawl away from him when Soundwave manages to tear his codpiece off and frag him so thoroughly there will be at least five sparklings kindling inside of him by the time they're done. The thought alone had his panels filled to the brim with lubricant.
The human's arms gripped the cable fucking his throat and managed to keep it out of his mouth long enough for him to take half of the feelers into his mouth and begin sucking lewdly and bobbing his head on them. He teased at the seams and delicate outer mesh of the cables, before popping his mouth off and screaming Soundwaves designation to the sky, squeezing tightly around the appendage.
Unfortunately for him, that also meant Soundwaves secondary overload triggered and he was not fully prepared for the charge that fizzled along the tips of his feelers, causing his human to cry out.
His systems noted another orgasm, and slotted the information aside, the heat riddled part of his processor realizing best breeding will be achieved at a smaller scale. His frame, conveniently, could do that, and his tentacle unwound itself from around the heaving chest, instead wrapping around the calves and hoisting trembling legs backwards towards the man's shoulders
»Soundwave,« the man called, tired words full of ecstasy. Before mass displaced the only thing that was truly shoving inside of him were the feelers, but now…
Soundwave let out a curse in binary, attempting to once again open his codpiece, before yanking at it with his servos, scratching at his paint. Digits too dull to do the job properly.
His tentacle rubbed itself against the man's folds, drawing another moan of pleasure from him.
In the next moment it was shooting in and out of him at a speed that had the man scrambling for purchase against the forest floor, sinking fingers into decaying leaves and screaming human curses towards the treetops. It felt like seconds passed in between the messages of his mates' orgasms, Soundwaves own overload approaching, the excess energy crackling under his plating.
His logic and combat unit was screaming something at him, but it took a cable to his medical port and a shock to his systems to get the message across.
Before his vision blackened out from the induced shutdown, his optic registered the blissed out look on his wrecked partner, droll dribbling down his chin. The sight alone almost made him pounce right back on him, keen on flipping him over and exploring just how tight his ass would feel and how loudly he'd beg for him when being fucked and filled even more than before.
If there wasn't additional weight pressing on his back and another shock administered to his systems, he would have done just that.

Comfort and Cuddles Pt. 1
You could feel the scream die in your throat, and your eyes ripped themselves open. You were bound to the bed by sheets and blankets. Your tossing and turning wrapping you to mimic a mummy. Your pillow was across the ‘room.’ If you could call the tabletop mansion, you inhabited on the Lost Light a room. The night cycle was barely halfway over, turning to your right you watched as swerve lay motionless on his berth. A mix of longing and jealousy shot through your heart. The mini-bot looked so peaceful, his recharge undisturbed by nightmares or fictional horrors made by his processor. If you had screamed in reality, it wasn't enough to wake him. You longed for the comfort of another, for someone to hug and whisper that everything was alright. A warm body to lay next to, so that when the nightmares returned you could awake with proof of the falsehoods sleeping only a few inches away.
Sitting up you rub the sleep from your eyes, reaching over for the notebook on your nightstand. Rung had suggested writing down these private horror shows, something about writing them down would allow you to see what your real fears where. A load of scrap, but Swerve had asked a few times if you had taken Rung’s advice. Seeing his faceplate light up at the thought of it helping you had lead to the ‘nightmare novel.’
In the soft light of a booklight, the blank page began to fill with descriptions of monsters that towered above you, titans that would crash, rebuild, and tare you apart — throwing you into an endless expanse of nothingness. Drowning in failure and silence. Knowing that all of this, the pain and solitude was because of something you had done.
Drops of water hit the page, smudging the ink. Your shaky hand touched your cheek running over tear tracts. A small choked sob clawed out of your mouth, your hands scrambling to shove it back inside. You heard Swerve’s body begin to move, his operating systems coming on limbs shifting as he regained consciousness. Your back collided with the mattress as a soft blue glow enveloped your side of the hab-unit.
You heard Swerve stand, pedes loudly thumping against the metal floor. He was coming over. Had he awoken because of your scream? Had he listened to the crying? He stopped moving; you could feel him looking at you. His digits gently pat your legs in their tangled state.
“I know your awake (Y/N)” his vocal processor not letting his voice reach above a hushed volume. You stay still, eyes shut trying to keep your breathing steady. “Open your optics, please,” This mini-bot had you wrapped around his smallest digit and didn't even know it. Your eyes opened and in response Swerve dimed his optics. “Another one?” you nod your head, clutching the blankets tighter to you.
“Is there anything I can do to help?” You stayed still. Swerve could help in many ways. He could hold you, talk to you until you fall back into the world of dreams, give you the warmth you craved. Slowly you shook your head. You had no right to seek comfort from him. He was kind, Kind enough to share a hab unit with you, you a pathetic human. Sweet enough to let you tag along in his days. Sitting on his shoulders as he worked. You already used him, taking but giving nothing in return. It felt wrong to take even more.
Swerve watched you for a moment, reaching over he slowly untangled you from the bed, using one servo to scoop you up and the other to retrieve a blanket and your pillow. He walked back over to his berth sitting on the edge.
“Swerve, what-” you could tell he was still in need of recharge perhaps he wasn't thinking clearly.
“I saw it in a human film once,” Swerve laid back cradling you to his chassis. “The sad human, her partner held her as they recharged.” Swerve wrapped the blanket over your form, his servos making a  barrier between you and the rest of the Lost Light. You were a little stunned, what had made him want to hold you like this? Your head lay on his chassis, a soft humming sound reaching your ears.
“Swerve,” you noted how pathetic you sound “what's that sound?” you run your hand in a small circle next to your head.
“It's my spark” Swerve shifted. “Is it bothering you? If it is I can move you-.”
“No,” the word leaps from your lips. You're half a sleep state is affecting you, and the filter between your thoughts and words. Despite that knowledge, you don't stop the honest words from slipping past your lips. “I like it, sounds even nicer than a heartbeat.” his chassis is warm too, combined with the warmth from his servos, you don't think you ever want to leave. The humming seemed louder for a moment almost vibrating the very spot you laid on.
“I just want to protect you, even from your dreams.” Swerve’s voice seemed to match the pitch of the humming “I know you don't need protection, but I can't help it. Maybe its because you're small compared to me, or because I've grown so fond of you-.” Swerve had begun rambling. His voice mixed with the humming started relaxing you.
“Swerve, thank you” The mechs voice paused, but the humming persisted “I love you too” you dream of telling him those words, but you don't have the confidence. Sleep is coming fast; the lines between fantasy and life are blurred. The bot's humming grows louder, and it almost seems like his whole body is a bit warmer. You fade, leaving behind a now very awake Swerve, whose even more in love with you then he was mere moments ago.

Chapter Four
Read Chapter Three Here
Okay, so you might have had to immediately climb back down to grab your tablet. No big deal, just a sensor that would have alerted whoever is at the helm of movement, and you need to make sure that it won’t be pinging out in distress that someone is banging around in the atmospheric control ducts. You’ve already pestered Elias about the wireless network service, and he gave you the information of one that is most certainly being monitored very, very carefully, and absolutely would not be shared with a machine that keeps everyone from suffocating. More than likely, the atmo ducts have an internal system, one that you might be able to tap into with a handy-dandy wire plugged into your trustee tablet.
It’s the oldest trick in the book to the point where most people don’t even think of it, to begin with, and instead have all these fancy smancy firewalls that keep all incoming signals from coming close enough to touch the cyberspace, but forget that someone could just plug themselves in and immediately have the same kind of access for far fewer tears. The driders, apparently, are no different than your usual hits and have almost no sort of internal security to defend from any internal attacks, almost like they never thought that would happen. You run a quick codebreaker app, and within moments, you’re in, a two-dimensional map of the floor blinking onto the screen as the information downloads.
A little red tracker signals which station your tablet plugs into, showing your apartment label as 123412.5, which isn’t anywhere near as helpful as you’d thought it would be. What you had hoped was that all the rooms would be designated nice and dandy with the names of people and what they are used for, but nope. Gods forbid for anything to be remotely easy for you! Biting your lip down, you try to make sense of the numbers, thinking that maybe it has to do with your… birthdate? No. Birthplace? No. Your name, somehow? No. But something a little strange is that no other rooms on the floor have digits in any way close to yours. 346578, 346690, and 346744 are the ones right next to your apartment, which you don’t have to be a genius to notice they those are widely different from than the one you were given. While you can note the positions of rooms, you’re sure there’s some method of figuring which room is for whom, and maybe even a code for the names.
Sometimes the only way to crack a code is to look at a cheat sheet. You find the control panel for the motion sensors and turn them off. Instead of going around and barging into random people’s apartments (most humans don’t take kindly to that, you expect the driders to be the same), you decide to start poking around some industrial closets to see what you can see. Before you can begin worming your way through the ducts, though, a loud knock sounds on the door, your soul almost jumping into a different plane of reality from shock. Careful not to bang your head on the edge of the opening as you close it the flap, before silently hopping down the bookshelf and get to an acceptable altitude for your voice to be.
“Yes?”
“Ma’am? You asked me to tell you if I saw your servant. She just returned.”
“Oh!” You’re already pushing the bookshelf back up against the wall. “Thank you so much for letting me know. I’ll be out in just a minute.”
“You’re welcome, ma’am.”
God, these stone floors are good for moving noiselessly. You don’t hear the drow maid as she retreats back to whatever chore she was doing, which means you probably couldn’t sense if she comes back. Good to know that you’re in a pretty vulnerable position, not that you didn’t know that already. Looking over the room one last time just to make sure everything seems reasonably normal, you unlock the door and leave, walking down the hallway and almost running into the Starward Matchmakers™ representative. After taking a generous step away to avoid getting mowed over, you let out a huffy breath.
“I was looking for you everywhere,” you bark, crossing your arms and glaring. “Where have you been? The prince showed up, I was floundering in the dark.”
“Oh, right,” she places a perfectly manicured hand on her forehead. “That’s what we’re here for, aren’t we. I almost forgot.”
It takes you a moment to process the fucking oddity of her words. She almost forgot? The Starward Matchmakers™ representative doesn’t forget, she remembers everything about everything. This isn’t good. “Where were you?”
“I- I don’t recall... oh, that’s right. I went out to speak with the prince’s assistant. Elias.”
This does not bode well. “Alright, let’s go back to your room. I’m going to take a look at your processing chip.” If you so much as breathed in ay which way to suggest that you wanted to peak at the Starward Matchmakers™ representative’s internal processors, she would typically take that as an invitation for a whack. But she doesn’t even raise her hand in a threat, only follows you to the wide-open door and inside without a word of protest.
Once the door is shut (the Starward Matchmakers™ representative is particular about her privacy), you gently tilt her head back, then fiddle around on the side of her neck until you find a control panel. Ugh, these newer models are so goddamn lifelike that most people can hardly tell the difference, but that means that someone unfamiliar with the mechanics is going to have a rougher time figuring out what goes where. After a moment of fiddling around, though, you find a corner of her artificial skin that presses down like a button, and out pops a chunk of metal and skin-like silicone. The exposed insides look like raw muscle, which was most certainly a conscious choice from the manufacturer. They want the androids convincingly humanesque down to the literal bloody details, almost as if they’re playing a game of gods.
It’s terribly stupid.
And incredibly inconvenient.
You reach between two of the twitching muscles with a finger, biting down on your tongue to keep from making any noises. After just a moment of digging through the twitching wetness, you find a button that you hope is a shutdown override, pressing it down until you feel it click. Instantly, the Starward Matchmakers™ representative’s eyes flicker as she falls back onto the bed, still as a board. Or a corpse. Calmly as a phantom, you stand over her, staring down at her blossom covered blouse as you try to build up the courage to rip open her chest. Only after taking in a generous breath do you bend over, fingers outstretched to work open the first button. Her eyes open just before you get the chance to even graze the fabric, and her voice, cool and devoid of emotion, speaks.
“Initiate full shutdown?”
You shout. Actually, it’s more of a quiet, rather undignified shriek, one that you would never openly admit to making. While you had expected to give some kind of voice command to open up her central circuitry unit, you didn’t realize she would do…. That. Look at you with those empty blue eyes, her light hair still in some kind of impossibly perfect style, her mouth moving but without her voice. And to think she kicked your ass a nigh forty-eight hours earlier.
“Initiate full shutdown?” Her prerecorded voice asks once more.
“No, no.” You find your footing, creeping back over to where you were. Maybe you don’t have to get all up in her business, after all. “Commence full system diagnostics.”
It takes a moment for the command to process.
“Commencing full system diagnostics. Estimated time of completion; 24.5 hours.”
Internally, you’re screaming. These fucking fancy pieces of machinery and their ‘high functioning’ abilities to perform like humans until one of them breaks a nail and it’s a week in the shop until everything’s better.
“Correction: estimated time of full systems diagnostics report will be completed in 26.77 hours.”
You’re going to grind your teeth to dust on this mission, you think, looking at the clock and trying to even your breathing. One day, just one day, and then everything is going to be fine. You’re fine. This is fine. Everything is fine, fine, fine, fine, fine.
When you leave her room, you’re careful to shut the door behind you, though you don’t lock it. You’d like to get back inside without revealing your advanced lockpicking skills, and you don’t really have it in you to request a second set of bedroom keys from the drow servant. Not yet, anyway. Without anything much else to do, you go back to your room, though not to try shimmying your way through the atmo ducts again. Instead, you throw yourself onto your bed with your tablet and do your absolute darndest to distract yourself from everything else until it’s time to eat. The prince doesn’t request your company for the rest of the day, so you try to keep your heart from bubbling over with anxiety and keep your eyes and brain focused on Funny Vine.26 Video Compilation 55, TRY NOT TO LAUGH OR SMILE.
Suddenly you’re awake, and it takes you a moment to realize that you must have fallen asleep at some point in the video. The tablet screen is off, you can’t see it in the blackness of the room, so you feel around for it until your fingers hit the hard glass-like material of a screen. Dim light fills the room as you press into the button on the side, the shadows long and looming. You sit up quick enough that a wave of dizziness washes over your skull, your heartbeat throbbing throughout your body and into your fingers. It’s already noon?
You slip out of your bed, biting your bottom lip, checking to make sure that your door is still locked out of a paranoid habit you developed while working freelance. The handle doesn’t budge. Even though the drow servant has a set of keys, you don’t think that she’s the type to break into someone’s room while they are sleeping. Letting out a slight huff of breath, you flip the lock, quietly opening the door to look before you leave just in case the prince is lurking out in the common area like yesterday. You don’t see him near the bookshelf, or over by the dining room, but that’s where your scope of vision unfortunately ends.
Taking a gamble, you step out, smoothing down the front of your shirt. The drow servant is working over by the cabinets, you think she’s cleaning something out, and she’s quick to approach once she catches sight of you. “Good morning, ma’am! Apologies for not waking you, but I suspected you wished to remain sleeping.”
You yawn, rubbing the edge of your eye. “You suspected correct, thank you. Has the prince… erm… dropped by, at all, looking for me?”
“His assistant called asking if you were available to accompany the keias on another walk in the gardens, but I informed him that you were asleep. You have been requested to contact the assistant at your leisure. I have food ready to warm up if you would like, ma’am.”
“Thanks,” you say, distractedly, “I would appreciate that. I’m... going to get dressed while you heat the food.”
“Excellent, I shall begin at once, ma’am.”
In a bit of a haze, you wander back to your room, debating on how to handle the day with the Starward Matchmakers™ representative down for the count in a vulnerable position. You aren’t absolutely certain, but the fact that the drow attendant, Elias, was the last person she remembers going to meet is highly suspect. No duh. This has got to be some kind of trap, or at the very least, a test. Until you get more information, it’s probably most beneficial to go on and act like nothing is happening. You get ready for the day, careful to select an outfit that would be considered more presentable to the public than the last.
You eat breakfast, something relatively familiar to your taste buds, and radio the drow attendant to let him know that you can meet the prince whenever he’s ready. The drow attendant politely informs you that he’ll get back to you on that. An hour passes. To say that you’re bored wouldn’t exactly be all the way correct, but you’re definitely going stir-crazy, half expecting that every time you turn your head, the prince would be crouched in any of the corners you currently aren’t looking at. So, instead of staying on the couch, staring blankly up at the ceiling, you grab your tablet and scoot on out of there.
While growing up as a miner might have aided in your abilities to handle tunnels and rocky structures, you never really had to deal with gravity in those situations. Really, the only thing you had to worry about were the buzzermites, little critters that didn’t need to breathe, but could a heavy number on any electrical equipment. Here, though. Let’s just say that the critters are more… predatory. Terrifying. So your little exploration expedition is weighed down by all the random excuses you have to come up with if someone gets a little accusatory.
What are you doing here, aw, nothing, totally not trying to figure out the algorithms of the room labels. Definitely not looking over the downloaded map right now and trying to figure out if that door is a closet or someone else’s apartment. Calmly, you count the number of rooms you’ve passed on the map, trying to correlate that to what you’ve seen, one, two, three, four, crash. Something spills out onto the floor, and you stumble backward in a few shaky steps. After just a moment, you manage to regain both your balance and focus your vision, finding that you nearly managed to mow over a drow servant and their cart.
“Oh fu- I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there!” You immediately help with the cleanup, bending over to gather what you can in your arms, noticing a surplus of decorative towels and sheets, all resembling each other in the same silver and violet pattern. A cart that had just made an untimely introduction the side of your thigh holds more of the same shattered-shaped, glittering embroidery, so you do your best to dump what you had gathered neatly onto the top of the pile.
“I should have known better than to try to haul twice the load in a single run,” they say, though their voice is somewhat strained. The drow servant doesn’t seem to notice you, or, at least, your species, just that your voice is apologetic and around the same height as most other of the serving class. It doesn’t help that they are desperately trying to balance the wave of pillows and towels that had tipped over on their head, their dusty gray arms wrapped around the fabric. You don’t think it would matter if their face were uncovered or not, since their attention seems to be solely on keeping the mountain from becoming unbalanced before they can gently set everything back on the already overflowing pile of the cart.
Already, though, some of the pillows fall over the edge once more. You hastily move to catch them before they fall, or at least to quickly pick them up off the floor if you happen to miss. “It apparently worked for a bit,” you gander, looking over their shoulder to see that one of the doors was open. A storage unit. You try to commit the odd symbol to memory, desperately trying to memorize the sharp angles and sliding curves of the script in the second it would take to not look too terribly suspicious. “Let me help you ease the cargo a bit, I think that if I carry a couple of things, it won’t be in any more danger of tipping over.”
“Oh, do you have the time?” The drow asks, clearly thrilled for the help, before they manage to get a glimpse of your face. Their jaw hangs open, only for a hot second, before their face pales in what you can only imagine is terrible panic.
“I mean,” you try to calm the situation down, “I don’t really have anything better to do, to be quite honest.” It didn’t seem like that had the effect you wanted it to, so you try, “you look like you’re in a terrible hurry, and I want to help, so I’m going to start walking, and you’re going to tell me which way I’m going.”
That seems to snap them out of their stupor. “Of- of course, if it pleases you, your grace. Straight up ahead, I will get the correct door to open.” All prim and proper, as though you hadn’t just caught them entirely out of sorts. Whatever training they must get must be ridiculously good for them to be able to snap back from that kind of panic, or maybe prior experience has taught them not to shed too many emotions.
Whatever the case, you walk, trailing to the side of the cart with the intention of catching anything else that decides to stray. And, to be fair to the drow servant, the room that the load is supposed to go to is reasonably far from the closet. The distance only helps to further cement the map into your brain, now that you’ve managed to physically see for yourself where two of the locations are. The servant holds out one of their wrists, their left one, you notice, and the keypad on the wall makes a satisfied beep in response. The door unlocks, and the drow servant turns the old-fashioned handle to let you in first, standing to the side.
You step into the room, mentally calculating how much you can snoop before it looks suspicious, and decide that you have to play it easy for now, especially with your only way out virtually down for the count, possibly infected with some sort of trojan virus. So you step away from the door, sticking to the wall, staring at the fairly similar, yet unique layout of the new and entirely different suite. The architecture is familiar enough that you can tell that it is, in fact, part of the same building and era, but changed just enough that you would know if you had accidentally wandered into it thinking it was yours. Interesting. You wonder if those designing the underground had a different spin on every suite, or if there are only two or three repeating designs. You suppose you’ll find out eventually.
“I’ll take those,” the drow servant says, gathering the bunch of cloth out of your arms and wandering off to what you assume is the restroom.
“Someone looks like they’re redecorating,” you say in a simple observation. Everything else about the room is completely stripped away, the humanoid-made couches missing their cushions, all the cabinets in the kitchen area open and empty.
“Not redecorating,” the drow servant says, then seems mildly hesitant to add, “the ambassador has been... replaced.”
“Oh.” You have no idea who they’re talking about, but now you know that you’re on a floor with a bunch of important people. Which you had probably known, you think you had a very brief, very rushed lesson about the importance of who will most likely be sharing similar accommodations. Still, hearing it from of a native is different than the hazy guesses offered up to you by an overpaid military official who barely knows what was going on twenty light-years beyond the border. You suppose that if someone… not you, of course, but someone wishing to wreak havoc could inflict a lot of intergalactic political damage just by briefly messing with the air filters on this exact floor.
Then you realize the choice of words being used. “Replaced?”
The drow servant shakes their head. “It isn’t my place, your grace.”
“Of course,” you blink, taking a step towards the door, “I’ll get out of your hair, then. Sorry about running into your cart in the hallway.”
“Oh- please don’t apologize, your grace, it was my own fault for being so careless with myself!”
“No, you were just trying to do your job efficiently, and I got in your way.” You’re already in the hallway, but you pause, and try to consider how they might feel if your job- no, if your life was on the line because you accidentally ran over the queen of England with a serving tray. “I won’t tell anyone, if that’s what you’re afraid of.”
There’s an abundance of relief on their face, but also a carefully hidden smidgen of suspicion, one you wouldn’t have been able to sniff out if you weren’t so well-versed in winning people over to believing whatever you promise. “I know what you’re thinking,” you say, holding up your hands in surrender, “you think that I want something in return, and you’re right.”
They bite. “What… what is it, your grace?”
“Stop calling me that.”
“Y-your grace?”
“That, yeah.” You wave your hand. “It’s annoying. Just call me by my first name, ‘miss’ or ‘ma’am’ if you absolutely must. If the prince has some kind of weird fetish over being worshipped, you can do what you must in his presence, but when he’s not around, it’s fine to just be casual, m’kay?”
It takes a moment for them to fully process what you’re saying. “M-miss?”
“That’s it.” You grin, placing your hands on your hips. “You got it already. Maybe spread the word about this, too.”
They nod.
“Alright, it was nice getting to know you!” You offer a little wave, then get on out of there. Even though you managed to appear cool as a cucumber, your heart is hammering inside your ribcage. All it takes is this one servant to report your odd behavior, you’re sure, and it’s all over. You don’t know how exactly it would be over, but surely they’d figure out that you’re trying to do reconnaissance through the servants. It is one of the oldest tricks in the book. The human book, you guess, but still the book. Oh god, you might throw up. You need to eat something, maybe watch a flick to get your mind off the shakingly reckless shit that you’ve been up to.
No such luck though, because why would the universe see fit to ease your pain in the slightest? Why would you be so silly to think that? How could you hope for anything outside of the prince, standing in the middle of the common space like a goddamn apparition, waiting, apparently, for you.
“Oh, hey,” you say in what you imagine a perfectly normal nonchalant greeting should be like. “Your assistant didn’t tell me you were coming, so… um, I went for a walk.”
“You look unwell.”
Goddamnit, you probably look like you’ve wandered out of a nightmare. “I didn’t sleep great last night.”
“Was the bed not to your liking? Are the pillows too stiff or soft for your neck?” He immediately tenses, and you can feel a soft aura of bloodlust roll off him like a dewdrop from a flower.
You swallow thickly. “No, the bed is amazing. I just… couldn’t get to sleep. My mind wouldn’t settle.”
“Stress.” He says as though he had known from the moment you stepped through the door, and not as though he were, just moments before, ready to strangle whoever put together your room. “You’re stressed. This is stressing for you?”
The room tilts slightly, but you catch yourself before you so much as wobble. Yes, you’re stressed, you want to scream but don’t. There are too many variables, too many people for his anger to flow towards. You reach up and rub your temples, taking in a shaking breath, knowing that you’re on the precipice of a panic attack. Sitting would be deeply preferable, but you would have to shove your way past the prince, and you don’t think that the two of you are on that level of understanding quite yet. He might think- he might think-
You take another breath, deep, gaping, and balance yourself on the bookshelf. Don’t lie to me, the prince’s voice echoes in your head as you open your mouth to speak the single most used falsehood in the history of humankind. “I’m fine.”
“Perhaps you believe that,” the prince says, offering a steadying arm, which you hesitantly take, “but it appears that gravity sickness has begun to catch up with you.”
Lolth’s gravity is almost twice more than you are used to, Clementine had said once, drumming her short fingernails against a steel table, I give you one week at best before you really start feeling it all up inside those bones and muscles.
God, you hate it when she’s right. And you especially hate that barely three days have passed and you already want to lay down and go into a three-year coma.
“You need to expand your center of gravity,” the prince, at least, sounds like he knows what he speaks of, and he generously steps out of your way. You can take a few shaky steps forward and lay down on the couch, your brain swimming around in circles as your muscles twitch occasionally. Then, after a moment of silence, he reaches a hand down and gently pets your hair. “You mustn’t be so crass with your own health. I understand that ‘fine’ doesn’t at all mean its exact definition when humans use it in the same context,” he continues, the sharpness of his claws never once pressing hard enough to hurt, not even by accident, “however, I don’t wish for you to use it when it comes to your own safety.”
“Alright,” you agree quietly, your hands resting on your hammering chest. Then, in an even more subdued voice, you ask, “are…. you going to stay?”
His hands don’t stop their movements. “Do you wish me to leave?”
You have to think about it for a moment, because even though your immediate instinct is yes, please leave me alone, you bite your lip down and realize that you don’t want to deal with this all alone. You really don’t know what’s gotten into you, later you might convince yourself that you like the way his fingers move against your scalp and nothing else. Or, a deeper part of yourself that you rarely listen to whispers, you’re finally tired of dealing with this kind of shit solo. Whatever the case, you open your mouth, fully intending to send him away. But something else comes out instead.
“No, don’t go.”

MeldaProduction is proud to announce availability of MDrumReplacer — an aptly-monikered drum replacement plug-in pairing the best drum-detecting algorithm on the market with perfectly-recorded multilayer samples as an easy-to-use tool to fix flaws, replacing weak- sounding snares, lousy kicks, and such like with a chosen multilayer sample in both single drum and mixed tracks in a matter of seconds
Appreciating advances inherent in MeldaProduction’s MDrumReplacer plug-in perhaps involves an appreciation of drum replacement itself. In modern music production parlance, drum replacement is the practice of an engineer or producer recording a live drummer and replacing (or adding to) the sound of a particular drum with a prerecorded sample — say, replacing all the recorded snare hits with the sound of a handclap. History has it that the technique was pioneered in the late Seventies by American engineer, inventor, and producer Roger Nichols (R.I.P.) while working with American rockers Steely Dan in the studio. Subsequently it became increasingly commonplace to replace every snare hit in a performance that may or may not sound subjectively ‘good’ with an ‘ideal’ snare drum hit, and has since grown in both popularity and complexity since computer-based technology took hold in music production — to the point where some suggest that the practice defeats the purpose of having a live drummer as opposed to a drum machine, making for an end result that is effectively exactly the same as what a drum machine would produce if equipped with a custom drum sample recorded especially for it. In reality, however, crafting more complexity in an increasingly automated world is not necessarily easy to achieve, but it does not have to be that way — which is exactly where MeldaProduction’s magical MDrumReplacer plug-in comes into play.
Putting it this way, MeldaProduction itself pulls no percussive punches when posing some hard-hitting questions with a semi-serious delivery: “Does your snare sound like a bird vomiting on a plastic table? Does your kick sound like a horse s**t falling on the ground? Then just replace them!” That, then, is MDrumReplacer’s raison d’être, effectively. After all, not every drum hit is perfect, not every drum take is flawless, and nor does every drum sound good. Get this, though: with MDrumReplacer no drum recording is gone for good necessarily. No matter if it was suffering from poorly-positioned microphones or the sound of the entire drum kit is, in retrospect, simply not up to scratch or even to taste, MDrumReplacer fixes flaws in a matter of seconds. But best of all, the recordings will still sound spectacularly live after applying MDrumReplacer’s magic, thanks to the plug-in pairing the best drum-detecting algorithm on the market with perfectly-recorded multilayer samples. MeldaProduction’s MDrumReplacer’s powerful drum-hit DETECTOR works with maximum precision, finding the hits to be replaced in both single instrument recordings and even mixed drum sessions with minimum user intervention. It is equipped with advanced analysis technology that thoroughly examines the audio material to identify the most prominent frequencies and sets the resonators accordingly, then users can audition just the filtered signal with the ‘listen’ feature so that they can easily adjust the filters to set them as precisely as possible. Ultimately, users can completely replace drum hits or get creatively effective by blending the original sound with the selected sample — enhancing kick drums with some added electronic flavour, for example. But better still, since MDrumReplacer basically includes MeldaProduction’s MDrumLeveler plug-in — itself marketed as the ultimate dynamics processing tool specifically designed for working with drums, MDrumReplacer need not necessarily only be used to replace ‘bad hits’ but also to iron out the drummer’s performance by simply letting the DETECTOR find an event and compute its correct level, with the requested DETECTOR GAIN then being applied to the event, so that the drummer sounds solid and firm-handed as a result.
It is simply a case of running the DETECTOR and speedily selecting a sample that best fits the track — from MeldaProduction’s massive multi-sample libraries (totalling over 80 GB), including the recently-released Drum Empire 2020, the latest in its lengthening line of free extension packs for its MDrummer virtual instrument plug-in, the most advanced drum machine and virtual drummer on the market — with which to replace the unwanted drum hits in most cases, however. Helpfully, MDrumReplacer uses the mighty MDrummer’s sound engine, enabling users to choose synthesized drums as well as top-quality drum multi-samples that respect the original drummer’s performance and feel, ensuring that it remains resolutely human and not robotic, though some imperfections can be fixed with the plug-in’s inbuilt drum LEVELING. Lending an air of further flexibility, MDrumReplacer’s presets are carefully stored in a system database and users can quickly access them from any project in any host, while the plug-in itself can automatically share users’ presets and also allows them to download other users’ presets from MeldaProduction’s servers. Turning to literally look at things from a visual viewpoint, it is well worth noting here that user interfaces need to be fast, simple to use, and easy on the eye. Everyone’s needs, of course, can be different, so flexibility is important. MeldaProduction’s MDrumReplacer meets those observations head on — as, indeed, do its many software siblings — with the most advanced GUI (Graphical User Interface) engine on the market, allowing users to choose colour and style to personalise what is also a freely- resizable plug-in, one which is accelerated by the host computer’s GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), making for lightening-fast graphics while freeing up extra power from the host computer’s CPU (Central Processing Unit) to focus on that all-important audio. Although current computers can clearly do their thing faster than ever before, algorithms are becoming more complex and projects bigger as a result, so processing power still needs to be used effectively. MeldaProduction’s MDrumReplacer uses the fastest algorithms, takes advantage of the newest processor capabilities, handles the graphics accordingly, and shares those resources with other MeldaProduction plug-ins. Indeed, it is amongst the fastest on the market, while providing the best possible audio quality using 64-bit audio processing to handle any sampling rate. Reality dictates that it does not make much sense to go over 192kHz, but if MDrumReplacer users think that it is a good idea to do so then the plug-in can do that.
MDrumReplacer makes for a creative user experience with an extensive feature set that is surely second to none, including a powerful MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) processor — listens to MIDI controllers and keyboards to allow realtime control of any parameters; multiple parameter control using a single so-called multiparameter — handy for automation or smartly morphing between banks of settings, for example; A to H slot switching — taking the A/B comparison concept to the next level by enabling users to access up to eight instances of the plug-in, copy and paste the slots, and freely switch between them, as well as allowing for morphing between the first four slots with an X-Y pad to find the perfect blend between four preloaded presets; and four fully-featured modulators that can control any set of parameters — including other modulators, to but scratch the surface of this deep diving-enabling plug-in par excellence.
MDrumReplacer makes for a compelling case for drum replacement that is light years beyond that which was first envisioned by Roger Nichols. Needless to say, anyone suffering from vomiting-sounding snares or horse s**t-sounding kicks knows where to turn! MeldaProduction’s MDrumReplacer is available to purchase — as an AAX-, AU-, VST-, and VST3-supporting plug-in for Mac (64-bit only) and Windows (32-bit and 64-bit) — at an introductory discounted price of €29.00 EUR (inc. VAT) until January 3, 2021 — rising thereafter to the regular price of€129.00 EUR (inc. VAT) — from its dedicated webpage, which also includes further information, here: https://www.meldaproduction.com/MDrumReplacer MDrumReplacer comes with a huge library of samples, multi-samples, rhythms, drum sets, loops, and other resources that are distributed for free via MeldaProduction’s MDrummer packs, including its latest Drum Empire 2020 addition available from here: https://www.meldaproduction.com/MDrummerDrumEmpire2020
