Ten People I'd Like To Know Better
Tagged by @walkingaline
Last song: it has been 2 days that I'm basically skipping all songs for no reason, Spotify says the last long listened is Cold Fire by Rush
Favourite colour: Red and Wisteria (I am not going to say black, even if I love it because black is the absence of colours, therefore not a colour itself)
Last book: finished? Different, Gender through the eyes of a primatologist by Frans de Waal. While I'm actively reading Italo Calvino racconta l'Orlando Furioso di Ludovico Ariosto
Last movie: I don't recall the last movie I watched, I think it was Deadpool and Wolverine, because I don't think that Who Done It - The Clue Documentary counts as a movie
Sweet/Spicy/Savoury: all of them, if it is well done and vegetarian, I will probably eat it...and ask for the recipe
Relationship status: AHAHAHAHAH!!! (Does it make things clear? If not...I am all alone)
Last thing I googled: Wisteria colour, because I wasn't sure it was its name in English
Current obsession: playing Squad Buster (because of my nephew), trying to find affordable exercise to be back at my fit form, Poison Ivy, Harlivy...I don't know
Looking forward to: results of a project I wrote, results of a couple of CVs I sent, my shoulder getting fixed because I miss doing aerial arts, a proper job, being independent again, more new-old music, new adventures, my scientific career to develop
I am not going to tag people; if you see this on your dashboard, it means you follow me, and if so and want to play it, feel free to tag me so I can read answers and know people!

r/NoStupidQuestions: How much physically stronger are men actually
—
Different: Gender Through the Eyes of a Primatologist (Frans de Waal, 2022)
"Rough-and-tumble play serves male bonding and teaches crucial skills.
Since in almost all primates, adult males are physically stronger than females and are more prone to confrontation, they must learn physical restraint at a young age.
An adult male gorilla is so incredibly powerful that with just a little pressure of his knuckles on the chest of a baby, he could squeeze all air out of it.
Yet silverback males do play with gorilla babies, and the babies survive.
Males are so gentle that the mother will just sit nearby watching without any sign of apprehension.
Don’t think that these inhibitions come naturally to animals: they are acquired.
Over his long life, the big male has learned to check his movements while playing with weaker partners.
This caution is known as self-handicapping, a phenomenon found in many animals, from a big dog play-fighting with a tiny one to a polar bear in the Arctic playing with a leashed sled dog, which he could also eat.
The upper-body strength of men and women is so different that there is barely any overlap.
Only a small minority of women even come close to the average physical strength of men.
It would be catastrophic, therefore, if men around the house were unconscious of their physical advantage.
Fathers often play roughly with their children by throwing them up into the air before catching them, tickling them, or rolling around with them on the floor.
Sometimes they let them have the upper hand. The shrieks of laughter tell us that children love these games and the risk and challenges they entail.
Wrestling is particularly common between fathers and sons.
As a result, children often look at Mom and Dad quite differently, turning to the former when they are upset and to the latter for play.
As one review summarized, “Mothers’ interactions with their children are dominated by caretaking, whereas fathers are behaviorally defined as playmates.”
The rough games of fathers teach children crucial first-hand lessons about men’s strength while boosting their physical skills and self- confidence.
But this works only with an extremely inhibited father who learned restraint during thousands of play bouts when he was a boy or young man.
Wrestling games are a crucial part of socialization by fathers and male peers."

I've been reading this book by Dutch primatologist Frans de Waal. The title translates to "Different - Gender through the eyes of a primatologist".
When my parents gave me this book for my birthday, I did not think it would be good. Older academics have a habit of trying to stay relevant by commenting on current hot topics. Often times, these academics aren't particularly knowledgeable on the topic at hand, and just end up repeating right-wing conservative talking points with a few anecdotes mixed in. I kinda assumed this book would be in the same vein.
I was pleasantly surprised at the introduction, which at least suggested this book would be better than that. In the introduction, De Waal stresses the need for feminism in modern society, validates trans and intersex people, mentions that not every individual has to exhibit the average behaviour of their sex or gender, and perhaps most importantly: He promises not to comment on any gender or sex-related topics that do not have a mirror in the chimpanzees and bonobos he studies. While I'm sure I'll have my disagreements with him later in the book, this at least suggests he's fairly progressive, and will not comment on topics he's not qualified to comment on.
I'll continue reading and posting my thoughts on the book.

So I found the person who made up gender, and its the same dude that forced a young boy to be raised as a girl to spare him the embarrassment of having a disfigured penis (from a botched circumcision) who later killed himself because of the psychological trauma it caused. Here’s the study. (Archive) Below is how I found out.
“Before Money came along, those who failed to fit society’d pigeonholes were customarily dismissed as deviants and freaks. It was this sexologist who in 1955 introduced the label ‘gender’, which until then had been used only for grammatical classification. In English, we recognize the gender of the words such as king and queen or ram and ewe. Money borrowed this grammatical label, saying that for him gender refers to “all those things that a person says or does to disclose himself or herself as having the status of boy or man, girl or woman, respectively.” He set gender apart from biological sex, aware of the occasional disparity between those two. He also founded the world first Gender Identity Clinic at Johns Hopkins University in 1965.”
