Yoga for Weight Loss with a Holistic Approach
Who doesn’t want to shed a few pounds? Of course, each of us wants to do that. Our goal is not just to look good but to be healthy. We want to look and feel better. In your weight loss journey, you might have noticed one thing. Popular weight loss methods may not always work. Yes, aerobic exercises like jogging and Zumba are good for cardiovascular health.
However, these exercises are only sometimes sustainable. You might need a different approach here. Yoga is a good option. You can maintain your fat loss with Yoga and diet. You just need to join a Yoga training institute in Pune.
Tumblr media
Understanding Weight Loss and Yoga
Weight loss depends only on one thing, which is your calorie intake. You should consume less calories than you spend. It is possible through a proper diet routine. You must follow a good satvic diet with an Ayurvedic dietician. This diet will be rich in vegetarian foods and phytonutrients. These nutrients will help you maintain a healthy metabolism that will contribute to your weight loss. You will manage the growth of your muscles by regularly doing Yoga.
Yoga Poses
There are many effective yoga poses you can do to help you lose weight. For example, there are Yoga poses that train your core. These core exercises target your breathing. Once you start balancing and focusing on your breathing, you will notice vibrations in your body. These vibrations are nothing but your body's expelling energy. You will build more muscle strength through these poses as you will lift your own body weight. Hence, Yoga is an excellent way to relax the mind and body. You will also achieve flexibility with time.
No Emotional Eating
Many people with visceral fat are stress-eaters. They have a binge eating problem that leads them to food in times of distress. Therefore, we can conclude that there is a psychological reason behind weight gain. People listen to their cravings more than their stomachs. Yoga will bring you back on track. You will overcome the stress and anxiety of your life and focus on more mindful eating practices.
Nutrition and Yoga
Now that we are on nutrition let’s discuss a few healthy eating tactics. A balanced diet is important for weight loss. You should always check the quality of your food. It has the right balance of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. It should also fulfil your daily requirements for vitamins and minerals.
Sustainable Weight Loss Plan
A sustainable weight loss plan comes from realistic goals. You must have patience and compassion for your body. Hence, it is important to maintain your Yoga routine consistently. Only choose Yoga professionals who have attended Yoga certification courses in Pune. These instructors have received professional training in Yoga. They will be able to guide you better than other professionals in the market. All the best for your health journey!

6 Ways to Improve Your Recovery After Liver Transplant Surgery
So, you have endured the infamous liver transplant surgery. You are also done with your time in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the liver transplant center and are now back home. Everything feels unreal.
What is the next step? Recovery, of course. But, how can you amp up your recovery process to the point that you will be sure of bouncing back to good health after at least three months? The answer to your question lays in these following six ways which you can use to not only to speed up but improve your recovery process significantly post your liver transplant surgery. 1. MOVE AROUND During your initial first week at home and thereafter, incorporate the habit of walking and deep breathing. The latter will expand your lungs and relieve you of the accumulating sputum as you cough it out. To protect the incision that now resides under your rib cage and extends upwards, it is advised to not lift anything heavier than 6-10Kg for the first three months. Taking this precaution after liver transplant will also prevent a hernia. Any abdominal exercises post-surgery should be avoided for a minimum duration of three months as it poses a grave danger. Also, try not to gain weight while recovering as doing so could increase your chances of coronary artery disease.
2. TAKE MEDICINES ON TIME Give yourself or your caregiver the formidable responsibility of assigning a time for every medicine you has been prescribed. That way, you will never miss taking one. The fact that you have to take medicines all your life can be a hard pill to digest. However, if it leads you down the path of good health, why not walk this path without any complaints? Your immunosuppressants are undoubtedly important to ingest as told by your liver transplant team. These medicines play the role of blocking your immune system from attacking your new liver. Life after liver transplant may be filled with many medication prescriptions which may be hard to comprehend at first. Therefore, your family members or designated caregiver should familiarize themselves with which medicines you have to take and at what time. 3. EAT WELL Remember that it is a good sign to have an unquenchable appetite after your liver transplant surgery. We cannot stress this enough but a protein-rich diet which is also full of fibre is recommended. If you are still confounded by what constitutes a perfect liver transplant-friendly diet, you can seek the help of a dietician. Confirm that you do not drink unfiltered water or consume raw food or salads. Even the idea of junk food and sweets should not cross your mind. Avoid eating sickly sweet fruits as they can raise your blood sugar level. Since a lot of your medicines can spike your blood sugar, it is best to watch what you eat. As if it weren’t obvious, we strongly advise you to not smoke or consume alcohol after your liver transplant surgery as doing so can increase complications. 4. NEVER MISS YOUR CHECKUPS Problems after liver transplant surgery can be minimized if you do not miss your doctor’s appointments. Initially, they will be weekly but their frequency will reduce as time passes by. We realize that the brunt of the surgery may have you feeling low. However, missing a check-up will not help anyone. Your blood tests and immunosuppressant monitoring are the reason why you should never miss your doctor checkups as they will be able to indicate how well you are faring after your liver transplant procedure. 5. TAKE CARE OF HYGIENE Between day 14 and day 21, your stitches and sutures from the liver transplant surgery will be removed. You could also be due for removal of the drain or the T-Tube. Not only during these times but also otherwise, pay close attention to your surroundings and make sure that there is no accumulation of dirt or dust anywhere around you. Take sponge baths or normal baths to avoid fostering bacteria and germs on your body. Of course, the final word lies with your liver transplant team. Consult them always. Your caregiver or family member should also commit to not keeping the surroundings dirty so that you can recover in a spot-free environment. Hygiene is a factor that many people may overlook while recovering. Don’t be one of those people. 6. KEEP YOUR CHIN UP Throughout your recovery process, never forget that you will feel healthy and return to your normal life sooner rather than later. While the recovery process may look like it may take ages, you must not become pessimistic. Your quality of life will improve instead of worsening. Read positive quotes every day to not feel like there’s no end to your current predicament. While entirely recovering may take up to a year, you will be able to become a little more independent just a few weeks after your surgery. As the risk of infection is high while you are recovering from such an intense surgery, have someone keep your doctor/surgeon or their team on speed dial to report any health problems. Symptoms such as the flu, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, etc. could be the indicators of an infection or another completely unrelated problem with your liver which will need to be checked and treated as soon as possible. Rest assured, follow the above tips and you will be able to recover peacefully and speedily.

POST BARIATRIC SURGERY - EXPECTATIONS AND REALITY
Bariatric or metabolic surgery is done for obese individuals with one or more comorbidities. On average, the length of hospital stay varies from two to four days depending upon the patient conditions and the type of surgery. In the majority of the cases, the patient is upon his/her own feet and can start walking on the same day of surgery. Usually, oral feeding is started within the next 24 hours of the surgery. Once the patient is tolerating the feeds, completely mobile on his/her own feet and mostly pain-free, it is time to get discharged from the hospital which usually happens by the 2nd or 4th day of the surgery. Our bariatric surgeon Dr. Sudhir Jadhav can treat your obese with the perfect solution.
Tumblr media
The real test for the bariatric patient begins at home. Minimal abdominal pain, some difficulty in swallowing food is expected in the initial 1-2 weeks. The feeding is gradually increased so that by around 3rd week, the patient resumes his normal diet and by this time the swallowing difficulty should completely be settled. There are huge expectations from the patient regarding weight loss and associated illnesses. While the weight loss is going to happen, it is to be noted that it is not overnight magic that will result in a miracle. It is a gradual process that will result in weight loss over the next 6 months to 1 year. During this same period, there is an improvement in associated comorbidities as well. But important here is for one to understand that all this improvement is not going to happen automatically. Patient’s commitment and will power is the key to success and achieving desired goals after bariatric surgery. Commitment towards eating healthy food and restricting certain food items and minimal daily regular exercises help in achieving better weight loss and to maintain it for the long term.
Also, once the patient is discharged, he/she should have regular follow-ups with his surgeon and his dietician for a smoother post-operative course and to identify certain nutritional deficiencies which can develop in a few individuals.
Patients should never compare their weight loss with other individuals who have undergone the same procedure as all individuals have a different basal metabolic rate (BMR), may have different food habits and accordingly will have different weight loss patterns.
Lastly, as emphasized earlier, it is important to follow the diet and have regular physiotherapy and exercises to maintain the lost weight. It has been observed that 2-3 years later, the diet schedule becomes irregular and the exercises completely stop. Also, the patients start eating unhealthy/junk foods which might, in turn, lead to weight regain.
Tumblr media
One should keep in the mind their ultimate health goal and keep the diet and exercises continuing regularly which should be combined with regular follow-ups with the bariatric surgeon to achieve and maintain a healthy weight for the long term.
If you have any problems or difficulties related to the bariatric surgery, then meet one of the famous and leading Bariatric surgeon in Pune Dr. Sudhir Jadhav the get proper and effective treatment on your problems.

New Post has been published on Diet Wok - Fat Loss, Nutrition and Diet Advice
New Post has been published on https://www.dietwok.com/will-lose-weight-next-vacation-say/
You Will Lose Weight On Your Next Vacation If You Do As We Say...
Sixty-five-year-old naturopath and Charni Road-resident Dr Nardi Parekh weighed 101 kg and found it difficult to leave her bed because of her osteoporosis, arthritis and thyroid problems. Parekh wanted to make a change that lasts as her weight was not allowing her to indulge her passion for dancing, but, says she, “I knew I would be surrounded by temptation at home, so I had to get away in order to lose weight.” She’s one of many Mumbai residents who feel that a little time out, away from their social lives and food hoardings, will help them meet their weight-loss goals. But, does it work and can such a scheme have long-lasting effects?
What it involves
In February this year, Parekh spent a month at a naturopathy camp in Deolali. “We only ate raw food, fruits and green juices,” she recalls, “and we did yoga, walked and participated in a host of activities.” Parekh lost five kilos, “and made good friends.” Andheri-resident Gautam Sharma who works as an assistant film director lost four kilos in two weeks at a wellness centre in Bangalore in 2015. “The food there was prepared without salt and sugar,” the 31-year-old recalls.
Geeta Shenoy, a dietician and clinical nutritionist, tells us many of her clients have been on similar trips. “Most of these courses are very gruelling. Typically, places such as these lay down a fitness regimen and offer a ‘Sattvic’ diet, ie, food prepared with minimum spices, salt and additives. Guests aren’t allowed tea or coffee, fried foods, meat, alcohol, milk, soft drinks, etc.”
How it helped
“A month spent with like-minded people and with no temptation around me altered my way of thinking,” says Parekh. “I wanted to control my food cravings and that environment helped me do just this. Now, I find my mind automatically rejects birthday cakes or paani puris and this psychological change is what’s been great,” she says.
Nimish Kenia, a 41-year-old Dadar-based businessman who has been going for wellness holidays every six months over the last four years says, “The planned meals, slow transition to juices, small portions and plates at this retreat in Pune are what really altered the way I thought about food. As a vegetarian, I believed I got all the protein I needed from dal and chia seeds, but the retreat helped me understand what type of proteins I needed to consume and what quantity was required,” he says.
The good life
Kenia’s holiday began with a doctor examining his medical history and conducting allergy tests, but the highlight of the trip, he tells us were the many hours of massage that he enjoyed every day. He had to choose between three recommended diets. “I could either eat meals, go on a soup and salad diet or a juice diet. I picked the juice diet, and so I was gradually weaned off meals. The stay also included activities like Zumba, swimming, aqua fit, salsa dancing, yoga workshops, meditation, TRX training, breathing classes and cooking classes,” he recalls, sharing that the stay cost him close to Rs 25,000 per night.
Sharma who shelled out Rs 2,500 per night at the Bangalore retreat says, “We had a fixed meal, juice and activity time. Every day also meant mud baths, massages, sports, gym, yoga etc. You can choose what you like to do but people who were there to treat specific health conditions had more structured schedules.”
Rubber-band effect
“Almost everyone who goes for a weight loss holiday gains the weight when he or she returns to daily life,” says Kenia, admitting that he gained half a kilo when he got back too, but, “I’ve stuck to the healthy diet plan and the exercise routine with discipline.”
Sharma, on the other hand, shares, “After I got back, the effects lasted for a while, but I soon went back to my old ways. I’ve been strict about staying off salt and sugar, but I didn’t stick to the exercise routine.”
Shenoy believes the reason people rubber-band to their old ways is because of their perspective. “One should realise that such a trip is not a lifetime solution. It’s a great way to push-start your weight-loss programme, that’s all. The weight loss you achieve will and should motivate you to keep at it,” she says. Parekh who is now down to 88 kg tells us she countered this effect by seeking the help of a dietician when she got back. “I plan to lose another 15 kg this year,” she says confidently, pointing out that the health benefits she has experienced have served to keep her on track. “I don’t have the numbness I used to feel in my legs and am living a pain-free life.”
Choose wisely
“Always check the credentials of the healthcare professionals at these institutes before signing up,” says Shenoy. “If you’re suffering from serious ailments such as heart conditions, kidney problems etc., consult your physician first,” she cautions, highlighting that children, adolescents and pregnant or lactating women must avoid these altogether. “And, when picking an option, pick one that’s not too drastic so you can stick to it later. Also, ask the expert on site to see that the plan results in your losing body fat, not muscle mass.”
