“You did what?” Erik barks, pulling the mug out of the cupboard and slamming it with a bang. He must be really worked up about this, Charles thinks, watching as Erik lifts the handle of the coffee pot with his hand instead of his powers. “You let Lorna go on a date? Without telling me?”

“I’m telling you now, darling,” Charles answers, taking a slow sip of his coffee and giving his husband a charming smile. It does not get the usual answering smile in return, and he lets out a suffering sigh. “You were away at your conference, so I made the decision without you. I think I’ve been her father long enough don’t you? Or do I still have to run everything by you first? Erik glares at him, before settling into his usual chair at the kitchen table. “You know damn well that’s not what I meant! She’s sixteen! And with that Summers kid of all people! He’s nothing but trouble!”

“Funny. That’s what they used to say about you, or don’t you remember?”

“Charles--”

“Erik,” he teases, reaching for his hand and giving it a squeeze. “We both know that Lorna is more than capable of taking care of herself. And Alex adores her to pieces; you said yourself he’s a good kid when he’s not letting his temper get the best of him. Plus we can’t keep her locked up in her room until she’s done college...”

Erik huffs, and scrubs his face tiredly with both hands. “I know, I know.”

“So what’s really troubling you about the two of them going to the movies with their friends?”

“I just..” Erik starts, groaning a little before he gives Charles a sad smile. “Where did the time go, Charles? It seems like just last week that we brought her home, and suddenly she’s old enough to go on dates?”

“I know darling, I feel the same way.” Wheeling around the edge of the table, he pulls Erik into a kiss, rubbing his back soothingly to ease his own heartache. “But think of all things we have to look forward to - graduation, college, a career...and maybe marriage, if she chooses it. Babies too.”

“Grandchildren,” Erik murmurs, smile wide as he brushes his lips against Charles’ forehead. “What a lovely thought.” Then he adds with a slight frown, “Though it better not be anytime soon. Or Summers is a dead man.”

Charles laughs. “No, not anytime soon.”

"Die Geister, die ich rief" ist zwar der x-te Versuch Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" auf die Leinweind zu bringen, aber auch der kreativste. Bill Murray spielt den sarkatischen, selbstverliebten Fernsehproduzenten Francis, der keine Skrupel kennt und sogar Angestellte zur Weihnachtszeit feuert. Ein wesentlicher Aufhänger der Verfilmung von Richard Donner ist, dass Francis Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" auf die Leinweind bringen soll. Der herablassende Umgang mit seinen Mitarbeitern ruft eines Tages den Geist von Francis' verstorbenem Boss auf den Plan. Der prophezeit ihm das Erscheinen von drei Geistern, jeweils einer aus der Vergangenheit, Gegenwart sowie Zukunft mit dem Ziel, Francis anhand dem Aufzeigen seiner Lebensstationen zu läutern und einen besseren Menschen aus ihm zu machen.
