⚾ Happy MLB Opening Day ⚾

Going to record my predictions for the season here so I can laugh at how poorly I did later. (Teams marked with * are predicted to land a wildcard spot for the playoffs; teams in italics are my favorite teams in their division.)

American League East: 1. Baltimore Orioles (but will this be the year they figure out how to hit in the playoffs? 2. New York Yankees* (despite some major injuries, they still seem like a team to be reckoned with) 3. Boston Red Sox* (this team could finish anywhere from 1st to 5th honestly) 4. Tampa Bay Rays (never count the Rays out, but it still feels like they're rebuilding a bit) 5. Toronto Blue Jays (whoever is in this spot will probably be the best 5th place team in the league)

American League Central: 1. Cleveland Guardians (running it back, as long as the arms hold out) 2. Kansas City Royals* (seems like last year's team with some improvements) 3. Detroit Tigers (if they had anyone who could hit or play the field they'd be a no-doubt repeat playoff team; as it is, fringey to) 4. Minnesota Twins (if 🥱 was a team) 5. Chicago White Sox (probably losing fewer than 120 games this year at least)

American League West: 1. Houston Astros (the dynasty is at its end, but they have one more year of contention in them) 2. Seattle Mariners (team ownership should be fired for wasting a league-best pitching staff by doing nothing to improve their miserable offense) 3. Texas Rangers (if they can hold the team together with duct tape long enough they could make a run) 4. The A's (will be very funny when they have their best season in recent years in the first season at their temporary in-between-home-cities home) 5. Los Angeles Angels (not even trying)

National League East: 1. Philadelphia Phillies (This is Bryce Harper's wild ride and we're all on it) 2. New York Mets* (I have concerns about the pitching but the offense should go hard) 3. Atlanta Braves* (numerous health concerns but they should at least be in the conversation all year) 4. Washington Nationals (the rebuild is going alright but they aren't ready yet) 5. Miami Marlins (fish)

National League Central: 1. Chicago Cubs (after some near misses the last two years, this iteration of the team looks well-suited to a playoff run) 2. Milwaukee Brewers (last year's team but less good) 3. Cincinnati Reds (Elly De La Cruz can steal 200 bases but what else is there?) 4. St. Louis Cardinals (after all the offseason trade talk it would be funny if Nolan Arenado leads any sort of charge for them) 5. Pittsburgh Pirates (I love you Pittsburgh but Paul Skenes alone can't carry a team, and ownership just doesn't want to spend)

National League West: 1. Los Angeles Dodgers (duh) 2. San Diego Padres* (glad they didn't trade Cease; they should be good to keep LA honest all year) 3. Arizona Diamondbacks (fringey playoff contender; losing Montgomery for the season probably a net positive for them) 4. San Francisco Giants (another fringey contender but I'm less convinced overall here vs. Arizona) 5. Colorado Rockies (probably doomed to failure until ownership changes)
