I appear to be writing more MLC fic, which is not the sequel to the one I finished posting a couple of days ago.
So, DFS and LXY, hiding out in the wedding room, drinking the wine. Only JLQ had known that DFS wasn’t going to want her in bed - he didn’t want to marry her at all and he certainly didn’t want to get intimate with her.
So the wine is drugged, there an aphrodisiac in it.
DFS and LXY have the option of taking care of matter themselves with regards to its effect. They are aware of what they are doing.
L ‘I Don’t have desires anymore’ XY telling DFS he won’t be affected. That he’s not been able to get it up for years - just another side effect of the poison.
Then finding that no, he’s actually completely wrong on that matter, and it is affecting him after all. And it’s wonderful and awful, because it reminds him of what he’s lost.
Anyway they have to confront things between them that they been ignoring, and they are both downright awful at talking about feelings. So they fuck about it, and maybe some honest words are spoken.

ok so I keep coming back to an au where like.
Instead of faking his death, Shan Gudao fakes Li Xiangyi's death, and still blames the Jinyuan alliance for it.
(and, because, y'know, what's the point of winning if you don't have anyone to see it, stashes poor Li Xiangyi in a convenient dungeon somewhere. if you don't start with your own captive audience, a shidi is fine.)
Shan Gudao thus becomes the head of the Sigu Sect, bc...like, he is second in command, and now he's got 1)prestige and 2)time to work on his ultimate goal of Becoming Emperor Of Everything Ever. Probably does the occasional 'expedition' to 'search' for his beloved shidi's 'missing body', by which I mean go and update poor captive Li Xiangyi on whatever new terrible step in the 'take over the world plan' he's up to, and/or do a bit of torture, psychological or otherwise.
Di Feisheng, on the other hand, is fully losing his shit trying to work out what in the actual fuck happened to Li Xiangyi, because someone has clearly murdered him. And on the one hand, he's now, kinda, the top of the jianghu, and on the other, he hasn't exactly earnt that, has he, and winning by default doesn't fucking count, that's not skill, that's random luck.
And sure, literally everyone in the damn world is out for his head because of the whole ' "murdered" Li Xiangyi' thing, but that's 1)more fights to test his skill in 2)not the point, he has to find out who Really murdered Li Xiangyi, if that means mowing through every idiot stupid enough to get in his way when he can't just lay low, so be it. (A surprising number of people are thrown off by a mask.)
all of which is to say: in this world the kinda sketchy and mysterious guy wandering the jianghu on a quest to find a corpse that Fang Duobing latches onto is Di Feisheng, who-- is initially tolerating this idiot in part because he's Li Xiangyi's disciple, which means he has just as much interest as Di Feisheng does in working out what the fuck actually happened a decade ago, and in part because --
well. ten years of looking for a dead man, let alone a famous dead man like Li Xiangyi, is an awful long time to find nothing at all. a suspiciously long time, really, like there's not actually a dead man to find.
like Li Xiangyi is still alive.

What makes me emotional is how, if you look beneath the surface of this whole “old rivals unite for a common cause” line, you can see how Li Lianhua is especially careful and even gentle with Di Feisheng.
Li Lianhua has a sharp tongue. And sometimes he uses it even with those he cares about. Even Fang Duobing had to experience this on himself once (although the purpose was to protect Fang Duobing).
But Li Lianhua never uses his sharp tongue on Di Feisheng. Not when Di Feisheng is in a position dependent on Li Lianhua. Not when Li Lianhua has good reason to be angry with him.
It’s as if, while everyone else sees Di Feisheng as a killing machine, Li Lianhua is the only one who sees him as a traumatized, very strong, amazingly strong-willed, but deeply wounded person.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even when Li Lianhua knows nothing about Di Feisheng's past, he somehow senses this vulnerable part of him. And that’s also why he’s the only one able to recognize Di Feisheng in the form of a child.
And at times it feels as if there is a part of Li Lianhua that wants to shelter this big, strong and at the same time defenselessly sincere man from reality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This special tenderness is even evident in the way Li Lianhua touches him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, I think part of this caution is due to the fact that Li Lianhua is well aware of his potential power over Di Feisheng.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How... Li Lianhua could have broken Di Feisheng if he wanted, but he never wanted to.
But perhaps he fears that he will, eventually.
Tumblr media
And also, as my friend very accurately noted, there is always a special distance between them, which makes them paradoxically closer than if this distance did not exist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because this is not a space of detachment - it is a space of mutual tension, like distance in dance
