The Edge of Sleep TV Show Review
I’m pleasantly surprised - Full spoiler Warning for the podcast, book and show.
Okay, so I’m a big admirer of marks projects and his channel. I look up to him as a filmmaker. So when I listened to the podcast I was enthralled. I really love the podcast as it is filled with excellent visual storytelling, narrative and is just overall very interesting to me. the book is another story. I bought the book to support the creators of the podcast, and hearing it was going to be similar to what the show was going to be, I thought “what the hell”. Do I regret buying it? A little. The book is wholeheartedly hard to read, the characters became one dimensional and utterly useless and I hate to say annoying. It was tough and after I finished it, I was annoyed that this was the version the show was going to take after.
Well I just binged the show and while I still think the story from the podcast is better. The TV show is a better version of the book. The TV show took away all the aspects of the characters I hated, kept the new scenes and edited them in a way that wasn’t too in your face and added new things that I wasn’t expecting. The only thing that I am disappointed about is the show and book getting rid of the psycho character from the podcast. It’s the first hint we get about the elephant after Dave’s first dream and the whole psycho arc and how he ends up interacting with the characters was very interesting. So I think keeping at least that side story would’ve elevated the tv show a little more.
I’m also surprised by the acting. I had no doubt that mark was a good actor and has gotten better over the years of working on his own projects but I held a little bit of skepticism for this project because of how long ago it was made. You can kinda tell in the first episode that he’s still kinda getting used to being Dave which is not a bad thing. For someone who is self made, I was expecting this and was impressed that he was able to hone it in quickly as quickly as he did. There’s been a few YouTubers or “influencers” that come out in movies in recent years and it’s usually god awful. By the 3rd episode, mark was no longer Mark.
also
Honestly, yes intimacy comes with acting but I wasn’t expecting him to go all in. I’ve never seen him as a person to give affection in front of a camera so it was kind of a shock to see it so plainly. And when Katie died his reaction was *muah* chefs kiss. I’m a sucker for angst and hurt/comfort. And him just stuttering and unable to breathe with guilt and anguish really ughhh! I loved it! Screaming in these situations in film is, sorry to say, over done. Usually feels fake. But idk, when he started asking for more adrenaline I felt it. Props. Man props. It was awesome. And i also wanted to mention that as I was watching I noticed that he seemed more at ease (in character) when he was acting against Lio. I’m not sure if it’s because they became friends, if he’s more comfortable using intimacy or love as a source of emotion in his acting, or what but those were, in my opinion, his best scenes. And props to Lio as well, but I know they can act. But I’m praising mark because I know YouTubers that are serious about acting or filmmaking have trouble being taken seriously in Hollywood. So honestly, as a independent filmmaker who looks up to mark, I’m honestly proud to have supported him and will continue to support him in the future.
anyways, sorry for this wordy rant yall. you guys know the plan. Get it to top ten and Iron Lung here we come!
also, I know it’s essentially his name but a part of me was kind of peeved they put Markiplier in the credits instead of his full name. He’s said in the past that execs and directors and such have only been interested in him because of the amount of followers/subs he has so to me using markiplier just felt like it was because of that. Trying to appeal to his followers or use his name for clout. Obviously it’s whatever makes the show be successful but still. At least as exec producer his full name?? Idk. That’s me.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 movie review
Spoilers ahead!
You guys. So back in 2014, we were introduced to these band of misfits that almost the entire world didn’t care about. No one knew who they were or what they were about but many went to theaters to quell that curiosity.
flashforward a pandemic later and this movie just saved the MCU. It was full of heart and soul. Every character had a chance to shine and James did a real good job of paying off set ups that were established way back before the events of endgame.
Rockets backstory was the backbone of this film. It brought out the absolute best of these characters and brought out the emotions of the audience. We had seen who rocket was in the last movie, and how he struggled with himself but here we see how the team struggles with the mere idea of losing him. Even the most stoic of characters (nebula) showed how much they cared.
did I cry yes. I think a total of three times. And it was all due to the actors. When the characters reacted to rocket either about to die or dying, it felt so real and believable that it brought me to tears. I feel like one of there had to be alternate scripts where rocket really did die because the actors reacting to it were so in touch with that immediate loss that it was hard not to believe the worst. I say this because when quill was about to die, the reactions from the other actors were not as impactful. So that makes me believe that they knew he was going to be okay anyways.
Fucking claps all around for Bradley cooper. From what I’ve seen, he is not usually on set for rocket, it’s usually Brother Gunn (who also plays kraglen) but when Lyla dies and Rocket gives this gut wrenching scream, It was fucking terrible (in a good way). You can feel the loss and sadness and UGHHH! I can’t! It was so fucking good.
fucking props to the writers. I’m so hyped that I’d have to rewatch the film again to point more stuff out but for now I want to point out two things. 1. nebulas reaction: throughout the film nebula had been a complete hard Ass being annoyed at everyone. We don’t see her break this facade until rocket wakes up from a coma. She cracks. It’s so obvious yet subtle. It was in character. But also, when you remember what her character has been through since infinity war, all she had was rocket. For OVER FIVE YEARS. Rocket is most likely whom she’d consider her best friend if she were to admit such a thing. 2. rocket raccoon: they’ve made rockets species a gag since the very beginning but the entire scene where he finally sees for himself what he is, and then accepts that as such is such a fucking good pay off! It felt like he finally knew himself. Almost a decade of “I’m not a raccoon.” To “rocket raccoon” just hit different. And it wasn’t uncalled for. It fit. It didn’t feel cringey or over the top. It fit perfectly. Honestly it’s almost akin to “I am iron man” that’s how natural it felt. anyways, 10/10 recommend. I have more to say but it’s 3AM and I’m tired!

ohhhhh The Batman by Matt Reeves. Let me tell you right now that I've never really been a batman fan. I always thought he was overrated and... Idk I just never connected with him
I grew up watching The Dark Knight series and I just felt like it took itself a little too serious. It didn't feel real to me. As previously mentioned, I couldn't connect with that version of batman. That's just me of course....
Don't get me started on Ben Afflecks batman.
As for this new version, I think the reason I liked it more is because of the relationship between Gordon and Bruce. The chemistry between the two truly felt like a detective duo and I'm all here for it. I like that even though Gordon had little to no power, he still did what he could when batman was under fire. The relationship made the movie stand out.
Another aspect I liked was that we were shown batman's vulnerabilities. From the beginning - from the moment he calls himself vengeance, we are shown that he is his own weakness. His mind against himself. A high moral batman with a morally grey mind. This establishment sets the tone and the arc for his character. this young batman felt more relatable to me. Also, Robert Pattinson can finally rub Edward Cullen off because his performance was *chef's kiss* on point.
The riddler was also an interesting take. I liked the riddler more when he was playing his games. Not to say I was disappointed to put a face to the name, but it felt a little lackluster for me.
Catwoman. I really liked this portrayal of cat woman. She didn't feel over sexualized. She was more than a thief and, of course, this depth added to her. I did not really feel convinced of the batman cat woman romance, but maybe its the romantic in me wanting to see more between them.
THE MUSIC!!! Michael Giacchino does it again!!! The main theme is phenomenal. I love how he blends it into 'Something In The Way' by Nirvana. That transition made the musician in me fucking squeal. I can't wait to download this album.
Overall, FANTASTIC movie. I will definitely be watching it again.
10/10

Spider-man: No Way Home is the epitome of a badass comic movie! with the combination of all three movies, we get a new and refreshing take on the OG Spider-Man origin story. Tom Hollands Peter Parker is no longer a kid and I think the team behind NWH exhibited that perfectly on screen. the villains were great, but Willem Dafoe! GOD I know it won’t happen but I hope he comes back. his character absolutely stole the show. 10/10

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Review! full spoilers ahead. Is kinda long...
I thought this movie was good but i cant help but feel a little disappointed. I might get attacked for not liking it because it "DidNt hAVe EnOUgH CAmeOS" but honestly, I could give a flying a fuck about that. What disappointed me most were how they handled the Characters, the magic and the overall story.
Lets go through what I liked first. First we see Dr. Strange and Star Girl getting attacked by a Demon while trying to obtain the book of vishanti. I liked the established relationship between strange and America Chavez. Their relationship, though seen briefly, sets up America's fear of betrayal for the rest of the movie. America Chavez as a character was also really interesting.
Next we see strange at Christine's wedding. This was the portion of the story meant to kick off his arc. I'm all for it. I'm glad he doesn't end up with Christine, and the reasons behind why they are not together make sense.
Wong is honestly perfect in my eyes. 10/10 recommend sorcerer supreme.
The parts where they really stick with the horror theme are very good. Especially the scene in Earth 838 where Wanda is chasing them through the tunnels actually brought me to the edge of my seat.
When Strange Dream walks into the corpse and makes the dark souls into his new cloak caused an eye-gasm. it was beautiful.
Now for what I didn't like. Everything else. I'm not even sure where to start but let's start with the magic. What the hell were those cringy animated monster hands he was conjuring?? I get not using the regular spells and wanting to try something different but good god. When he began to use those spells I immediately knew that this movie was going to disappoint me. Don't even get me started on Wanda. Just like Captain ship-Destroyer, Wanda is Scarlet Energy Blast. She is supposed to be OP as shit but it took her a whole 10 minutes to destroy the fucking kamar-taj??? and only a few seconds to obliterate the illuminati? I'm all for being OP but make it consistent. It's insane to me how they built up this epic take down of the kamar-taj with lines like "it was me being reasonable" only for her to barely do anything. Not everything was bad. There were some good elements from the magic like the iconic maestro battle with sinister strange or... no that's it. That was the best fight scene involving magic.
Next, the illuminati. This was lost potential. These characters are supposed to be established fighters. Smart characters. Best of the best. Honestly, during my first watch of the movie, I get why. This is Wanda being OP, but why didn't Wanda killing BlackBolt fucking kick everyone into fighting mode??? Why did she have to kill him and fucking spaghetti man only for the two women of the group to look at each other as if their assistant brought them the wrong coffee order?? Why didn't wanda give them the same brutal take down? There was potential to actually make a good fighting scene, or to use Wanda's manipulation powers to good use. If you're gonna kill them so easily, make the reactions of others believable.
The characters. As I mention before, Dr. Strange doesn't feel like Dr. Strange. There are a few reasons. So, we know that Dr Strange was a righteous asshole, only to be beat to the ground after his accident. He learned to let go, accept his pain and move onto something that is bigger than anybody. We see him in other movies such as Thor, Infinity War, Endgame and Spiderman No Way Home. Throughout, we establish that he has in fact become wise and has somewhat let go of what he used to be. He's grown and has let himself become the protector of his reality. He is still calculating, and very much understands the weight of his decisions and actions. We see this in infinity war. The problem with this movie is that instead of letting Strange deal with the aftermath of the past few years, the audience is told by other characters. Christine, his old co-worker, America Chavez, the illuminati, 838 christine, fucking wanda. Everyone, at some point, tells strange either that he is a control freak or that he's sad and isnt admitting to it. It's story telling 101, dont tell the audience, let us see his pain. Let us see his physical and moral struggles. That is what this character is based off of, how this character and many others grow. I think this story would have really benefitted if they didnt change how his sister died. In the comics, the sister was sick (I cant remember with what) but it was the reason he became a doctor. I think if they put more focus onto that aspect of the character, a lot of other story flaws wouldn't occur.
America Chavez. I actually think America Chavez was very interesting and good. But again. There are some things when it comes to her story and how it plays into Stranges story that could be reworked. As I said previously, her established relationship added an interesting relationship to our strange. She is untrustworthy of Strange, and frightened. Rightfully so, she's just a kid. I think by emphasizing stranges sister would've added a deeper layer to America and Stranges relationship. It would've been interesting to see him try to protect her and for her to be hesitant to trust him. Past relationships and experiences matter, and if it was utilized would've made for a more interesting story.
Wanda. I liked wanda for the most part. I liked that she has become a villain. I like her reasons and the mcguffins hold on her. However, I think her involvement in Stranges story was too much. She overtook the story. Didnt let the other characters breathe with her strong arc. I think she should've gotten her own movie, OR a season two of wanda vision and we could've seen how the darkhold takes a hold of people, how it manipulates and controls. Her involvement in Strange's story takes away from Strange and... I know that probably wasn't the goal, but it's what happened.
Lastly, another big disappointment for me was the music. Maybe the mouse was annoyed that the theme of Dr. Strange got overused over the past few years but what I missed most was the style. Micheal Giachinno used certain psychadelic elements in the music of Dr. Strange that it played a big role in the actual character. and again, I dont mean the main theme. Michael Giachinno has a way of drawing big emotions with simple music produced by big ensembles but Danny Elfman doesn't pull the same effect. Sometimes you can hear it in the movie but other times it sounded as if this movie was made in the early 2000's. The music itself is not bad by any means but again, doesn't fit the character or established style.
Overall, I DO NOT HATE THE MOVIE. It was good for what it was. I dont think I would put it at my top ten favorite marvel movies but it wasn't bad or horrible. Just a little disappointing. I also feel that there were too many strong characters if that makes sense. Like, stephen, america and wanda all kinda mix mashed together into a soup of random heroes. It didnt let the audience either learn about a new character enough, or experience what the characters are experiencing (i.e strange or wanda). A friend of mine had a good suggestion. Get rid of wanda and put her into her own movie, make sinister strange the main villain, and leave america for the end credit scene/3rd movie. Idk, maybe in another universe.
Rated 6/10

Deys movie review of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
I have been waiting for this film since a little bit after the pandemic started. I had read the script and thought it was fresh and interesting. I have avoided rereading in order to be able to go into it with a fresh mind and here are my thoughts. Spoilers ahead!
Okay so first things first. Pedro! My internet boyfriend was so ducking relatable. When I read the script, I read it so plain, not really putting character to the characters yet but holy crap! Pedro’s added awkwardness fucking *chef’s kiss*! I could totally see myself acting the way that he does (at least when he and nick first meet) if I even so much as see him across street. I love how Pedro is able to shift the tone of his character. Perfect examples are the stark differences between the LSD scene and the cereal scene. Of course, the LSD scene was pure laughs while the cereal scene took a dramatic and refreshing turn! The acting was believable and the shift of character power between javi and his cousin was brilliant!
I found Nick Cage to be interesting and somewhat odd. I think what was most surprising was how Nicolas actually put his acting flares into the character such as the overdramatic screams of agony, or the little not-so-subtle hand flips and whips! I think he handled himself (😜😜) well and did a phenomenal job!
As far as the side characters go, Gabriela was great! I loved her character and wished we got to see more of her and Javi's dynamic. Javi's cousin (I can't remember his name) did really well. He definitely felt like the asshole older brother type of person. The CIA agents felt a little bland. Tiffany Haddish did well for what the character entailed but both agents felt a little too goofy, especially Ike Barinholtz character. It got better as the movie went along but then they just up and die ._.
Sadly there’s only one thing I didn’t enjoy and it was the timing of each scene. It honestly felt like the movie was flying by. This was an issue for me because I didn't get to, I think, experience what Nick and Javi were experiencing as their relationship developed. I guess I just wanted more lol.
Overall, what I really liked about the movie was that it wasn’t trying to hard to be funny. A lot of comedies have this issue of making too many jokes. This can be done in good or bad ways but for TUWOMT, they didn’t need to rely on constant jokes.
9/10 rating!

Free guy is now on Disney plus! Watching it felt a little surreal but it was nice for the gaming community to get a movie that plays into the language of gaming.
let’s start with the good! I loved the cameos from Hugh Jackman to Jacksepticeye, it was super fun pointing them out! i loved all of the Easter eggs especially during the final battle between Guy and Dude! I loved the little details in the background too!
The only thing i did not like was Taika Waititi‘s character. This man felt very forced at times, and somewhat not believable. Maybe it was supposed to be a new version/telling or what have you of the stereotypical money hungry boss but, idk, he just felt very goofy. it didn’t appeal to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love Taika, I love his work but this wasn’t it for me.
overall, an entertaining movie with a lot of heart.

The finale for The Book of Boba Fett has finally come and I thoroughly enjoyed… some of it. Now let me explain…
I enjoyed the story lines and I trusted the writers. I’m not a die hard Star Wars fan but as a person who loves film, I was able to appreciate the decisions and rationalize them.
my issue was the direction, particularly from Robert Rodriguez. I loved all the episodes that were not directed by R.R. Which is odd because I love some of his movies. as I reflect on these reasons, I realize that it has a lot to do with the way its cut, and how He directs the characters. everytime someone speaks in his episodes it sounds like they’re from a spy kids movie, and his fight scenes don’t have enough room to breath. LOOK OVER HERE *cut* LOOK OVER THERE *cut* NOW BACK HERE.
some people may disagree with me and that’s fine. I loved the finale mostly for it’s story, but not for how certain scenes were directed.
over all, I rate the series a 7/10

The last duel is about two men comparing duck sizes. although this may not seem like an entertaining concept, the way Ridley Scott directs the film makes it into a fascinating psychological tale about perspective.
Seeing the scenes change, even in the most minute way, when we are introduced to a new perspective is fresh. at least to me! 8/10

What i learned from Marvels Eternals is that earth literally keep getting the sh*t end of the stick.
it was an okay movie. interesting and different, some characters I connected with more than others. But I’m literally just wondering how the hell earth is still functioning after it started crowning with a baby celestial. 6/10

The Adam project is a fun, simple emotional thrill ride! Ngl, the part where adult Adam tells kid Adam about treating his mom right got me in the gut! I loved Zoe Saldanas entrance, she continues to be a badass. Ryan Reynolds continues to be Ryan reynolds and it just keeps getting better.
the only weird part was the de-aging of the main villain. it was a little wonky in my eyes.

I think it was the way it was set up. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if all of the interviews and behind the scenes of the cliff beasts movie that was for promotion was saved for the film AND if we were watching the final product of the documentary that cliff beasts became.
OR if it wasn’t so long. I feel like a lot of stuff could’ve been shortened or cut.
I think the overall story was good! I really liked all the characters; although, I didn’t really like Kate McKinnons character but I guess that was the point.
Idk what I expected from Judd Apatow’s The Bubble, but it wasn’t that.
