LE MESSAGE :

La convoitise est un désir fort, démesuré et insatiable de quelque chose qui appartient à quelqu'un d'autre. C'est un désir excessif et obsessionnel de possession matérielle. La convoitise est considérée comme un péché grave dans les Écritures. Le dixième commandement nous interdit de convoiter tout ce qui appartient à notre prochain (Exode 20 :17). Une personne cupide est un idolâtre (Éphésiens 5 :5, Colossiens 3 :5). Le péché de convoitise est la base du meurtre, du vol, du mensonge et de tant d’autres maux.

La tragédie de la convoitise est indicible. C’est un trait maléfique qui a envoyé de nombreuses personnes dans leurs premières tombes. C'est comme le cas d'Acan et de Guéhazi. Les histoires de ces hommes étaient pathétiques car la convoitise les a coupé court à leur apogée.

Dans Josué 6 : 18, Dieu avait sévèrement mis en garde contre le fait de prendre quoi que ce soit du butin de Jéricho, car tout objet qui s’y trouvait était maudit. Malgré cet avertissement strict, Acan ne parvint pas à s’apprivoiser. "J`ai vu dans le butin un beau manteau de Schinear, deux cent sicles d`argent, et un lingot d`or du poids de cinquante sicles; je les ai convoités, et je les ai pris; ils sont cachés dans la terre au milieu de ma tente, et l`argent est dessous. » Acan a vu, convoité et pris les objets beaux mais maudits de Jéricho et sa vie a finalement été écourtée dans une des morts les plus horribles. Tout ce qui brille n'est pas or. N'oubliez pas que les vêtements de la belle Babylone auxquels vous aspirez pourraient porter des malédictions inconnues aux yeux naturels. Méfiez-vous!

Une autre tragédie et la partie la plus douloureuse est qu'Acan n'a pas subi sa punition seul. Il a provoqué la mort prématurée des membres de sa famille qui ne connaissaient rien du péché de leur père, et a également provoqué la défaite totale de toute une nation. La convoitise est une infraction grave qui pourrait punir même les enfants innocents du coupable. C'est pourquoi David a prié avec ferveur dans Psaume 119 :34 : « Incline mon cœur vers tes témoignages, et non vers la convoitise. » Nous devons faire la même prière aujourd'hui. Nous devons demander à Dieu de purger nos yeux et notre cœur du banal. Nous devons prier Dieu de retirer l’esprit d’Acan de nos vies, l’esprit qui pousse les gens à convoiter et à prendre ce qui ne devrait pas être pris. Que Dieu redirige totalement nos cœurs vers Lui, au nom de Jésus.
