Coming Attractions - July 2023
As usual, we present monthly previews of new movies being released. These are the movies that will be hitting your local cinemas (and streaming services) this month:
July 7th
Insidious: The Red Door - Patrick Wilson makes his directorial debut in this fifth installment in the Insidious franchise and acts as a direct sequel to the first two films in the series.
Joy Ride - Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, and Stephanie Hsu star in this comedy about childhood friends traveling to China.
The Out-Laws - Hitting Netflix this month is a crime comedy starring Adam DeVine, Pierce Brosnan, Ellen Barkin, and Nina Dobrov. The fantastic premise alone has my attention.
Biosphere - Sterling K. Brown and Mark Duplass are the last two men on earth in this buddy comedy from IFC Films.
July 14th
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (July 12th) - Ethan Hunt is back for his seventh impossible mission, and the third directed by Christopher McQuarrie. This post will self-destruct in five seconds, so read faster. Dead Reckoning Part Two is coming in 2024.
Theater Camp - Ben Platt leads the cast in this comedy set at a - you guessed it - theater camp.
July 21st
Oppenheimer - Christopher Nolan directs this biographical thriller about the father of the atomic bomb. Need I say more?
Barbie - Margot Robbie is Barbie, Ryan Gosling is Ken, and Greta Gerwig is the writer/director in this fantasy comedy about Mattel’s fashion dolls.
July 28th
Haunted Mansion - Twenty years after Eddie Murphy visited the Haunted Mansion, Disney is trying it again with a new film starring Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, and Danny DeVito.
Now for a quick look ahead to August, my top picks for next month are Blue Beetle, the Last Voyage of the Demeter, Gran Turismo, and Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

'There's definitely a bit of a positive feeling here in the air': N.S. moves into third phase of reopening plan
Nova Scotia is set to open its borders to the rest of Canada starting Wednesday and its welcoming news for some of the province's hardest hit sectors.
Beginning Wednesday, there will be no isolation requirements for anyone travelling within Atlantic Canada.
All other travellers will need to complete a Nova Scotia Safe Check-In form and depending on their vaccination status and may need to isolate.
The Safe Check-In form will be made available for Canadians outside the Atlantic Region starting Wednesday at 8 a.m.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Halifax Stanfield International Airport would see about 11,000 passengers per day. Right now, the airport is only seeing between 500 to 600 passengers daily.
"The entire aviation industry has just been hit so hard by the pandemic so it is an exciting time. There's definitely a bit of a positive feeling here in the air,” said Leah Batstone, spokesperson for the Halifax Airport Authority.
Those flying into Halifax will have access to a self-swab COVID-19 test at the airport.
"There are Nova Scotia Health staff on site as well to help with that,” said Batstone of the self-swab tests.
"If you're a traveller that's required to get a test, for example, a rotational worker, the airport test can be your first test."
In addition to opening Nova Scotia’s borders, the province will also lack some of its restrictions for businesses.
Part of Phase three will see retail stores and gyms operate at 75 percent capacity.
"It's actually super exciting to be able to open at more of a capacity now,” said Devin Sherrington, owner of 360 Fit.
"Having more people back in the gym is always nice. I mean, when we reopened it was just nice to see people again because we've gone a long time without seeing any of them and clients and members are almost like family."
Up to 50 people will also be able to gather outdoors for performing arts and sports.
"Our kids and our adults have been able to train, and our youth, but there's a huge difference with training and them being able to play and actually getting back to competitions,” said Brad Lawlor, executive director of Soccer Nova Scotia.
Lawlor says the majority of the leagues will be back the week of July 5.
"I just want to thank all the volunteers that put a lot of time and effort in and patience through all the ups and downs to help us get back to getting kids on the pitch to play games,” said Lawlor.

Sorry to Bother You Review - Crazy, Smart and Real
Plot In an alternate present-day version of Oakland, telemarketer Cassius Green discovers a magical key to professional success, propelling him into a macabre universe.
Sorry To Bother You is as Good and Relevant as Get Out
Sorry to Bother You is a funny, real, depressing and most importantly relevant take on life and specifically life in a capitalist society. Brandon, Rashanii, and Devin review the debut film of Boots Riley starring Lakeith Stanfield andTessa Thompson.
We talk about how Sorry To Bother You made us feel, how smart this film is, what its like working in a telemarketing, the cool cinematography, capitalism in america, people having a line and so much more. This film touches on so many things in a comedic yet pointed and sometimes heavy handed manner that its impossible to leave this film without feeling something.
You can find Rashanii and the Single Simulcast on iTunes, Libsyn and at SingleSimulcast.com. And you can follow him @Rashanii on Twitter.
A fun show as always, Please be sure to subscribe to our show on iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, and TuneIn. Also leave us a five star review.
