Headcannon that Denki is color blind (Deuteranomaly)
Tumblr media
He wears bright colors because he wants to seem as bright as possible to others and himself. Also he can tell better if the colors are actually the colors he wants in his clothes. He doesn't really tell people but he doesn't keep it a secret, and there's no big reason to tell people because it doesn't really affect daily life.
If anything is wrong or something please tell me, I want this to be as accurate as possible and I want to have the correct knowledge of this. I looked it up and went on a website so I don't have real experience with this.
More random examples that are hopefully correct ↓↓

Achromatopsia and general Color Blindness(1st), Tritanopia and Tritanomaly(2nd), Protanopia and Protanomaly(3rd), Deuteranopia and Deuteranomaly(4th)
It's pretty obvious why there isn't already color blindness flags, but I think there should be so I made some. Is mainly for those with achromatopsia, but can also be used as an umbrella flag for all kinds of color blindness
The triangles represent the cones cells, and the white circle is for unseen colors. I figured that sense most flags are differentiated by colors that it would be important to make sure these had unique shapes instead.
We aren't color blind so if you are and have any suggestions feel free to tell us.

Me having not worn my enchromas for ages and then going on a walk:
- don't think I'll ever get over how each tree is actually a different green
- omg skinks! (so this is emerald green??)
- man, safety yellow really is just an attention-grabber, isn't it?
- neon colours: I dare you to ignore me
some colour blind arsehole: Ahahahahaha!
- and yes i *will* refeain from commenting on the red in everyone's skin this time. At least out loud.
- man! the green of trafdic lights is never going to not be the worlds trippiest trip to me. How is it so DIFFERENT?!??
- i wish cars werent majority boring colours these days...
- oh those are a red?? (referring to tiles on the footpath that indicate to blind people when a road crossing is ahead)
Ahh. The world is such a beautiful place, we're blessed to be able to sense light the way we do~

I'm preparing to write my gymnasiearbete (a kind of practice essay Swedish schools require for acceptance to universities) on the topic of colour blindness and the sRGB colour space. If you are colour blind and have the time, it would be a huge help if you could fill out the survey I made!
It takes around 10 min to complete and is aimed at anyone with any type of colour blindness. If you have any questions or suggestions for improvement, I'd be happy to help!

You don't even need to download a separate app!!!! Most operating systems HAVE A BUILT IN COLOUR BLINDNESS MODE! Here it is on my Google Pixel! It's in Accessibility!
Tumblr media
I obviously have it set to standard because I am not colour blind but PLEASE USE IT YOU DON'T NEED TO ADD EXTRA SOFTWARE AND WASTE SPACE ON SOMETHING BUILT INTO YOUR DEVICES!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
found these on twitter that might be helpful to all rpers who want to make sure their themes and carrds are accessible to all

I've been a little stuck in my writing and I couldn't stop thinking about these guys. For context, the two older ladies are Mary's birth mom (Eva) and grandmother (Lynn), though they haven't met.
Mary 100% has a concussion at this point, which isn't helping

On Splinter and Colors
I know we all joke about Splinter giving the red-eared slider the nickname Blue and I agree that it is indeed a peak troll dad move, but consider-
This is what we see of the baby turtles in Goyles Goyles Goyles
Tumblr media
And this is the same picture put through a colorblind filter showing protanomaly, or red deficiency
Tumblr media
Through deuteranomaly, green deficiency
Tumblr media
And through protanopia, total red blindness
Tumblr media
Yeah, makes sense why Leo might be Blue.
(there's green blindness and blue deficiency/blindness as well, but Leo's eye bananas still looked red in those)
If you haven't gotten to high school physics yet or have forgotten that lesson: we have three cones in our eyes that respond to light of different wavelengths, perceiving the color red, green, and blue respectively. All the colors you perceive are a mixture of these cones receiving light and yelling at you. (except for purple, purple's kind of weird) (as is black and white, and magenta, and-there are a lot of non-spectral colors, actually) Color blindness occurs when one or more cones is bad at its job or not working, resulting in the eye having difficulty perceiving that wavelength or not being able to see it altogether.
Now, considering he did give another child Red, he most likely can tell some shades apart. So I doubt he's completely red-blind. But it's very possible that he's red-weak or green-weak colorblind and literally saw Leo as having blue stripes as an infant, because they were in a shade he had trouble seeing.
This could also explain why he wore yellow-tinted glasses. They might have literally helped him see better by filtering everything to a wavelength he could see more comfortably at.
But, you ask, why didn't the name 'red-eared slider' tip him off? Splinter's not a native English speaker. He's fluent, but it's his second language and it is very different from his first. English is a confusing and often contradictory language, so even if he realized that red-eared was meant to refer to the markings around their ears that were red-well, what does he know? English came up with all sorts of weird, misleading names for things. The black mamba isn't actually black, goldfish can come in all sorts of colors, and there's a frog called the mountain chicken. Who is he to argue?

How did brain trauma make you colorblind? I thought it was genetic.
Excess spinal fluid put pressure on my occipital nerve causing the typical changes in contrast sensitivity, visual distortion and such (floaters, grey spots, weakened periphery vision, etc). It’s not common or well studied but I’ve been told by my neurologist, ophthalmologist, and optometrist that my sense of color is absolutely off, and the only feasible cause is my IIH/PTC. Esp bc I’ve been tested when I was younger and showed no signs of any form of colorblindness, but nowadays my scores are very skewed. So because of this I don’t have a severe case of Deuteranomaly bc it’s not like a true case of genetic colorblindness but my ability to differentiate reds and greens is impaired. I used color filters that further exaggerate this (bc I get migraines and cluster headaches very easily with bright light) but even without any filters I just straight up am fucked when it comes to telling apart oranges and pinks and turquoises and shit. Like to the point that I’ve gotten into huge arguments about the color of a car or like when I make designs even just in video games or stupid little doll dress up games. I’ll show people and they have this pained look and I’ll be like. What. And they’ll ask ‘why’s this purple?’ And I’m like are you fucking kidding me. It probably doesn’t help I have horrific eye sight and am so sensitive to light. I’m literally like a cave goblin who feels around and uses sound and smell to deduce ‘these pants are tan 😏‘ and then I go out and someone’s like woah paired a green shirt with pink pants awesome man and I’m like what the fuck are you talk about

I've mentioned it before a few times but I do headcanon Ice as color-blind.
It's come to my attention (by @strangelove97, hope you don't mind me tagging you??) that flying planes while color-blind is not exactly possible and I was a bit curious how come since I assumed american eyesight regulations would be similar to the ones my own grandfather had to pass for his pilot licenses (military&civilian). I'm going on a limb here and have overthought everything, so whoever is reading this, bare with me and I'll explain why I find the idea of Ice being color-blind so entrancing.
pictures/examples used here might not be 100% accurate as there are different degrees of color blindness, within each type, I'm merely using photoshop to demonstrate the general idea
The most common color blindness is the red-green type which affects your perception of green and red wavelengths of visible light. I'll try not to go too deep into color theory here, but the majority of colors are not just one hue but rather have percentages of different hues mixed in, too, so it's never affecting only pure red and green, but also colors that are tinted with red and green, i.e. reddish brown, sea blue, etc.
There are mild forms of red color blindness - deuteranomaly (makes red look more green and less bright), protanomaly (affects only saturation of green and red); and slightly more severe protanopia and deuteranopia (which make it hard to tell green and red apart). Displayed below is deuteranopia (left - normal vision):
Tumblr media
In aviation, most navigation in the dark is based on red and green, the standard for runway lights is red for runway approach, end lights, and for precision approach lights, green for runway threshold lights and taxiway centerlines, and different warmths of white light for the rest, with the exception of some yellow edge lines at the end of the runway.
In civilian aviation, even with red-green color blindness, you could have a pilot license limited to only flying during daylight. However, even if we look at basic carrier landings for USN, it's virtually impossible with red-green color blindness --- the optical landing system used especially on carriers (but also on some land bases) is dependent on red and green lights; and out of all the lights, including landing markings on the deck, only the carrier edge is lightened up by blue.
Ice's color blindness is not the red-green type.
I based my headcanon on the colorblindness that runs in my family, which is the yellow-blue type, that affects anything that has a tinge of yellow or blue wavelengths --- which makes it hard to tell the difference between blue and green, purple and red, and yellow and pink. It also can make colors look less bright as yellow is the color that usually is responsible for increased saturation (in simplified terms). This will not affect most of the lights and colors used in aviation in a major way -- you'll still be able to pass the eye tests, especially if you 'train' yourself a little bit.
Tumblr media
Now, why do I like this headcanon for Ice so much?
My dad saw the sky and the grass as the same color, but different shades - green. In general, with blue-yellow blindness, your world gets greener and more pinkish, just because, as I said, yellow impacts the saturation of many things, including natural light. Blue is responsible for a similar thing. Think like color correcting - blue and yellow are opposite on the color wheel.
Now, the USN (and military in general, probably??) use very specific shades for uniforms, paints, machinery, etc. It's like this washed-out green with underlying, de-saturated, you know what I mean.
This is the color-picked shade of their uniforms in the original Top Gun, a darker shade, and a pic that has a clear view of Mav's eyes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, various lighting will make the above shades different, either warmer or cooler, or more washed out or brighter - for example, said shade #435D52, is made of ~ 27% red, 38% green, 33% blue, coldness and warmth of shades is manipulated by the type of light wavelength you receive alongside the primary hue wavelength, blue and yellow. So to make those shades different depending on saturation/light, you would need to be able to see yellows and blue. Striped down of blue, colors rely on black for darkness and mix it with the raw, untinted green hue.
Ice can't see yellow or blue, so that leaves him with that raw untined green.
And Mav's eyes are just the right type of green - the raw, untined green.
On top of that human irises change color only after prolonged exposure to light (spots of brown melanin in the iris) and flick the light off, reflecting it rather than absorbing the wavelength with a different than primary hue, thus staying the same shade. So Mav's eyes aren't affected by black, shadows aside.
So, most of everything around Ice, basically, whether he is outside with the open sky, or in a training room, or confined to the carrier, or just surrounded by people in flight suits -- is in the shade of Mav's eyes.
Tumblr media
Which makes Ice go bonkers at the beginning, obviously, because he is trying not to think about that tiny cocky asshole and can't stop seeing the shade of his eyes.
But as the years go on, and they stay together, and they keep on loving each other, it becomes a form of comfort, that the shade of Mav's eyes is everywhere.

TSAMS HEADCANONS AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME! >:D
Bro I watched all those TSAMS videos that i couldn't keep up with AND JUST WHAT THE F*CK IS HAPPENING??? Can't we have some rainbows and sunshine for like a second pls where everyone holds hands and sings My Little Pony songs?? 😭 WE WOULD HONOR WITH THIS SOLAR AS WELL LIKE THAT'S DOUBLE JACKPOT 😭 And I'm actually such a fan of angst but when I TELL U THAT I NEED SOME ✨POSITIVITY ✨, THEN IT'S NOT A GOOD SIGN 😭✋
Anyway enough of my adhd talk, LET'S GET INTO THIS WONDERFUL LIST OF HEADCANONS FOR FICTIONAL GAY CHARACTERS :D
-
-Eclipse is gay, acespike and a trans man [Our gay icon fr fr 💅]. He doesn't have ANY interest to pursue any relationship though cuz of his trust and abandomnent issues - And cuz he just doesn't care :P But he is kinda friends with Earth!
-Apropos Earth and Eclipse friendship, they sometimes go to the park and Eclipse helps Earth gathering berries from bushes for her cakes. He says that he finds it boring cuz he gotta be a tOugH gUy y'know, but he actually quite enjoys just having simple company!
-Earth is really good at baking and making sweets! :3 After she's done making all sorts of cakes, cupcakes and brownies, she spends it to homeless shelters so they can feed the homeless people, or gives it to her siblings!
-All Eclipses can speak French [It's kinda canon so sue me 🤣]. Either it's fluently or somewhat broken - Ruin can speak French only with a thick British accent, Eclipse can speak it better than Ruin but Dualingo would still end him cuz he misses his French lessons, and Solar can speak it perfectly! :D
-The Bloodmoon-Twins have difficulty distinguishing between reds, greens, browns and oranges. They also confuse different types of blue and purple hues because they can't 'see' the red color in them. So they have deuteranomaly and protanomaly, which are types of color blindness. [DAMN THAT WAS DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN QWQ I felt like a teacher for a sec WHICH I DON'T WANNA FEEL CUZ IT'S SUMMER HOLIDAYS AND I WANNA FORGET SCHOOL QWQ]
-Moon has still a collection of pokemon plushies and MHA figures, and Lunar has pokemon cards! :D
BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :D

Good news! Even colorblind people can tell the difference between most of these if they look, so if you don't see a difference, you might not be colorblind - there might just be a mild color filter on your screen.

This is my version of the gilbert baker rainbow flag. These colors were picked directly from his original 1978 flag, and then adjusted so they flow better together. I have included his lavender stripe that he added later to represent diversity in our community. I really want people to use this recolor/version because i find it so beautiful and I’m super proud of how well i made the colors :) i hope u guys like it and i just wanted to say thank you for giving me almost 15k on my other Gilbert baker flag <3
Details/alternate versions under the cut <3
Tumblr media
Here is a progress version :3
Tumblr media
This is the original one i made that is colorpicked directly from the original 1978 flag. I prefer my revised version because the red and pink kind of clash because they are similar values. Also the purple stripe is a little too dark for my taste.
Tumblr media
This is the “official” one. The colors on it are super saturated and neon (especially the red and yellow) and it’s generally pretty painful to look at.
Tumblr media
I would say my flag is pretty accessible to people who are red-green colorblind (aka deuteranomaly). None of the colors blend together or get lost in translation imo. Red-green colorblindness is the most common form colorblindness so that’s why I’m only including them.
Thank you so much for reading btw :) i hope u understand my thought process and perspective on certain things 💜
