What do you think about the Lindsay Ellis essay on Yoko?
Hi anon,
Ah, this is a toughie as Lindsay Ellis' video was actually the video that got me interested in the Beatles! So on that front .. I must have really enjoyed it at the time and I am grateful/embittered to it for leading me down this chaotic rabbit hole!
That being said, ughhh the video. On the one hand, to actually deal with the topic at hand she needed much longer than the run time of the video to actually get into it with enough detail, so it was always going to be simplistic. I did like some of her points about the other competing factors in the break-up and how Yoko really shouldn't be blamed for the overall break-up. I also liked her comparisons with Courtney Love and how women get blamed in these scenarios unjustly. However, my problem is she was presenting herself as an informed authority on the subject when to be honest, she doesen't actually show that great depth of knowledge. The not knowing about the nitty gritty about Northern Songs is one thing but clumping May Pang with those desperate for fame or clout ... I found either ignorant or disingenuous. That wasn't the first time I've noticed that with Lindsay's work. Not going to lie, I stopped watching her for ages after I watched a video where she was talking about British media and somehow managed to call John Hurt a low-rate tv actor and said that Blackadder was pro-the class system which I'm sorry, was ignorant to the point of stupidity. So yeah, I think Lindsay is great at conveying information but maybe also perhaps conveying incomplete information as if she was an expert in the subject.
This next bit might be a tiny tiny bit controversial but I don't really care. Knowing what I know now, I found the entire video to be partaking in an outdated and reductive type of feminism which doesn't actually allow women to have any flaws or be real people. Yoko was massively over-hated for all the wrong reasons, but it seems that in reaction some fans including Lindsay refuse to look at her with any critical view and dismiss any dissent as rooted in sexism. As a born and raised from the cradle feminist, I find this approach not only exhausting but sexist in and of itself as it strips women of agency and complexity. In the case of Yoko, the two extremes has meant that we've only recently been able to have honest conversation about her. No Yoko didn't break-up the Beatles, but she was a contributing factor and was a massive factor in why they didn't reunify in the 70s. Not because she sat on the bloody amp but because of nearly everything else she did. To say that she had no impact is terrible source-work and practice as it requires dismissing most of our sources from the period and from multiple primary perspectives in order to fulfil an ideological agenda. This in May's case is also silencing the voice of a female employee in a vulnerable position power-wise to sanitise her much wealthier boss' public image. I don't like that. I also want to make it clear that I don't think a lot of Yoko's actions were borne out of malicious intent but due to her extremely complicated personality and trauma, a personality that gets completely flattened if she's just a bit of cardboard jutting out in the corner. There are no winners if you refuse to engage with women as real people and through a modernised Madonna complex lens.
So ... a well-presented video with some great ideas but at the same time quite a basic overview that showed a lack of understanding of some key elements and a refusal to actually engage with the material to push a particular agenda.

Big is the word.
Franken-Amp is running. It sounds BIG. It is that simple. Right now it is playing Sting's Soul cages. That is a weird QSound mix, but the impression is size. It sounds BIG.
The Clarity is amazing. This is an early 1970's circuit scheme yes with tweaks by a guy who knew enough to be dangerous. I do not even have the 1,000,000 microfarads of extra capacitance plugged in. Just the 16 output transistors and a few film caps in the signal path.
This is literally night and day compared to the HK Citation 12. There is height and depth and impact. She is 4 times as powerful as the HK and the ARC. It makes a difference. All old school bipolar transistors. Well there is a handful of FETs and a tube in the preamp.
This is what I feel after a nice steak and a half bottle of a nice red wine.
This is a cool album. This is not Sting of the Police. The album is full of space and I like it. Complex and the beast untangles all the waves and gives them to you. Did I mention the Bass?
Yes the beautiful textures and warm reddish sunset light of the ARC are gone, but there is this other thing. Size and presence. Transistors have Bass gotta give them that. The kind you feel as much as hear. Oh I may have turned her up a bit, but hey its my house.
I now know I missed this. The ARC is like a pretty girl sweet and lovely. The F-A is like a tall lithe beauty who can run marathons all day in the bright sun. I write like this with wine in me. There is scotch in the cabinet. Hmmm.
Come fall I will look forward to the golden magic. She has her own charms.
I gotta play pawnshop. It has not been piped through the F-A yet.
Oh the keyboard sounds out past the left speaker. No wall there it is not a reflection. I guess QSound can work. Dint with the ARC.
Back on the solid state team droogs.

4 and 12 and 14 and 17 and 18 for lizzy and maybe the other fallout gals if you want
THIS GONNA B LONG poppin a readmore down. This might also be illuminating for some people on why I drag with my New Vegas and Fallout 4 fics. >>
4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
For Lizzy backstory was relatively easy since Fallout 3 gives you one premade. The greater wasteland as a whole does have its influences in what I ended up expanding on with her just in that I really wanted to amp up the contrast between her and her surroundings. The world is hard and difficult and violence is frequent and here's an asthmatic girl who was born a preemie and not suited for the skills that would make life in the wasteland easy but she's going to try, damn it. With Carmen I think New Vegas' standout in vibe from 3 and 4 played a big role with her. New Vegas the city is a big deal, but there's an equal if not greater emphasis on the world outside the city. The survival skill always fascinated me, and I wanted a character who really thrived in it, totally outside of the pre-war ruins that play a more heavy role in both Lizzy and Eleanora's stories. I wanted a character where anything to do with the city and old world was usually a bad thing. She's got few experiences in the city that she can chalk up as nice. Fallout 4 always gave me a sense of yearning and nostalgia, mixed with rose colored glasses for the world before. It also gives a backstory I decided to follow pretty closely for Eleanora - she's one of the first OCs I started fleshing out in my return to tumblr and the fandom scene and writing fic so she's not quite as branched out or creative as the others, but in general the ruins of Boston reflect her mindset. There's a lot of damage with the building of something new over it, but there's still the old shining through all the while.
12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?
I think Lizzy is one of my 'lightest/brightest' characters, and as someone who leans toward the angsty in my work that can be difficult for figuring out things to do with her that capture her properly. Because I want to be nice to her. She deserves it. :( Carmen is probably my hardest OC to do things for just due to her complexity - or at least, the complexity I want to try and put into her. It's difficult to try and untangle the threads and make them into something that makes sense. I might be overthinking things and worrying too much, though?? Carmen and Eleanora both share the same difficulty in that they were created and written when I was in a very different and darker headspace than I am now. There's a lot more innate sadness to them and again, while I like my angsty work it's also difficult to enter into that headspace while writing them or making works for them. HOWEVER both of them have stuff in the works for their advancing and growing and healing so that part will be easier. The other hard thing with them is their being fleshed out and having works made for them earlier than Lizzy and my not being super happy with how in depth that is, but such is life. :V
14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?
Lizzy:
1. Is physically small and weak, and that should show in visual art of her. In writing, it influences her approach to things. 2. Is emotionally a behemoth and has a maturity and sensitivity there that emphasizes she's a woman, and not a girl.
Carmen:
1. Her outsider nature. In both appearance and mannerism Carmen tends to chronically stand out as someone who doesn't belong - an irony usually because she had done a lot to belong and in the case of the Mojave it's home. 2. Her intensity. When she finds somewhere she manages to belong she will cling to it. She's no stranger to violence. She'll do what needs doing. There's a fire in her eyes.
Eleanora
1. She's of the old world. She has ideas from it that will linger, expectations of the world, habits that are hard to break. Generally most obvious in her personal grooming and appearance, she keeps weight better than wastelanders and has pre-war ideas of style. 2. She's also lost everything. As a result she'll fight hard to do good and try and replace a little scrap of what was stolen from her, but there's a manic edge to it. There's always a very deep melancholy in her that she rarely allows herself to even touch because it'll drown her the second she does.
17. Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
Lizzy - no ragrets. Probably because I developed her with a more practiced hand and mindset compared to my other ladies and am still very happy with the work I've done with her. Carmen - I do dither a bit about her backstory working at Gomorrah. It plays into how Vegas holds nothing but bad vibes for her (and the irony of how this place that was so bad for her is one who's fate she can influence in this big way) and also that she, like Mary (my Bloodlines OC), has a bit of a gift in a tragic event that occurs to her. Carmen's amnesia/bullet to the head helps her have a new start she'd struggle with otherwise, even as it robs her of the good things in her life. But on reflection I don't know if it was too much or not. :V Eleanora - Not really, but I do wish I went with more detail and a fine toothed comb in expanding on how her pre-war origins have influenced her and how they've given her some preconceptions that are incorrect. I wish I gave her more of an arc in learning and growing from that, and giving her a little more depth.
tl;dr lizzy is my favorite fallout child because writing and art hard
Thanks for the asks!!! <33

Delving into the Sinister: A Timeline of the “Saw” Horror Saga
Tumblr media
by @ablufox:
The “Saw” franchise, debuting in 2004 with James Wan’s pioneering installment, has left an indelible mark on the horror genre, weaving a tale of morbid curiosity, justice, and relentless terror. This saga has stretched over nearly two decades, amassing a cult following and influencing a generation of horror lovers. With the release of “Saw X,” it’s a fitting moment to trace the bloody legacy of the “Saw” series, shedding light on its narrative evolution and the grotesque allure of Jigsaw’s moral games.
“Saw” (2004):
“Saw” emerged as a fresh, disturbing narrative in the horror genre, conceptualized by James Wan and Leigh Whannell. The film introduced audiences to the Jigsaw Killer (or Jigsaw), a terminally ill cancer patient turned moralistic serial killer who puts his victims in gruesome, life-threatening traps to test their will to live and moral compass. The notorious bathroom trap, where two men find themselves chained in a grimy, decrepit bathroom with a corpse, sets a precedent for the eerie, claustrophobic atmosphere and complex, horrifying traps that would become the franchise’s trademark.
“Saw II” (2005):
Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, “Saw II” builds on the terror from the first film, delving deeper into Jigsaw’s twisted ideology. The film introduces a group of eight individuals trapped in a house filled with deadly traps while Detective Eric Matthews attempts to save his son, who is among the trapped. The narrative explores the fallout of personal and professional wrongdoings as the characters face the consequences of their actions through Jigsaw’s gruesome tests.
“Saw III” (2006):
In “Saw III,” the narrative becomes more emotionally charged, exploring the mentor-apprentice relationship between Jigsaw and Amanda Young. Directed again by Bousman, the film showcases Jigsaw’s final test for Amanda, along with another game set for a grieving father seeking revenge for the loss of his son. The intricate relationships and emotional turmoil add depth to the characters and explore the theme of forgiveness amidst a backdrop of escalating brutality and complex traps.
“Saw IV” (2007):
“Saw IV” unveils the backstory of Jigsaw, delving into his transformation from John Kramer, a grieving husband and future father, to the sadistic mastermind Jigsaw. Directed by Bousman once again, the film intertwines with events from previous installments, showcasing a complex narrative that enriches the franchise’s lore. The narrative explores themes of loss, grief, and the blurred lines between justice and revenge.
“Saw V” (2008):
Directed by David Hackl, “Saw V” delves into the aftermath of Jigsaw’s death, focusing on the power struggle between his apprentices. The film explores the challenges Detective Mark Hoffman faces as he attempts to continue Jigsaw’s legacy while evading the suspicions of his colleagues. The narrative also explores the theme of trust as five individuals are put through a collaborative game where teamwork is crucial for survival.
“Saw VI” (2009):
Directed by Kevin Greutert, “Saw VI” takes a more societal approach, exploring healthcare and corporate greed themes through a game set for an insurance executive. The film highlights the consequences of bureaucratic decisions on individual lives, blending real-world fears with the franchise’s signature gore and moral quandaries. The narrative also continues to unravel the intricacies of Jigsaw’s posthumous influence.
“Saw 3D: The Final Chapter” (2010):
Marketed as the concluding chapter, “Saw 3D,” directed by Greutert, aims to tie up loose ends in the franchise. The film amps up the gore and introduces a self-help guru who falsely claims to be a Jigsaw survivor. As his deceit unravels, a deadly game ensues, intertwining with the overarching narrative of Jigsaw’s legacy and its struggle for control.
“Jigsaw” (2017):
After a seven-year hiatus, directors Michael and Peter Spierig revived the franchise with “Jigsaw.” The film explores new facets of Jigsaw’s ideology, introducing a fresh set of characters entangled in a deadly game while uncovering undisclosed aspects of Jigsaw’s past. The narrative attempts to bridge the gap between old and new, tying back to the franchise’s origins while presenting a new mystery to unravel.
“Spiral: From the Book of Saw” (2021):
Directed by Bousman, “Spiral” veers slightly from the established formula, exploring a new narrative arc with Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks, played by Chris Rock, investigating gruesome murders reminiscent of Jigsaw’s games. The film examines systemic corruption within the police department, serving as a commentary on real-world issues while paying homage to the franchise’s legacy.
“Saw X” (2023):
The latest installment, “Saw X,” dives deeper into the dark lore of the franchise, unearthing past connections and presenting a new level of moral decay. The film reinvigorates the franchise with its intricate narrative and bone-chilling scares, hinting at more terror-laden puzzles awaiting in the shadows. As a reminder, “Saw X” occurs between the original and its first sequel, “Saw II.”
The “Saw” franchise has etched itself into the horror genre’s hall of fame through its relentless exploration of morality amidst a backdrop of ghastly terror. With its unique narrative angle and gruesome ingenuity, each installment invites audiences into a dark, reflective journey through the macabre tapestry of human fear and retribution. The legacy of Jigsaw’s twisted games continues to resonate, ensuring the “Saw” saga a gruesome yet captivating place in the annals of horror cinema.

After blinking several times, I venture to call his name. "...Sh...Shiroya?"
He looks at me in a sluggish manner, and he is not smiling as he usually is.
Where did his cheerful smile go....? I feel as if my chest were being pricked by a tiny thorn.
"Ayame..."
—Shiroya's route, Destiny Ninja 2 (belongs to NTT Solmare/Shall We Date)
I played through a lot of Shall We Date's mobile otome games back in high school before many of them were shut down a few years ago. My second game was Destiny Ninja 2, and my first route within that game was Shiroya.
Shiroya has become one of my favorite fictional characters, and by far my favorite system that I've seen in fictional media (read about DID/OSDD for more info on what being a system means). I was so surprised by how an otome game company depicted the complexity and nuance of DID more kindly than I've seen in media in some other places.
I get that DID tends to show up as a character trope that writers in the past liked to tag on to people to amp up drama, especially in the mystery, horror, and thriller genres. It also sometimes shows up as a trope in the fantasy genre (in which, I think, Destiny Ninja 2 would fall). However, there's a surprising amount of care and depth that Shall We Date put into their system characters (those being Shiroya/Other Shiroya in DN2+, and Kagura/Homura in Ninja Shadow+). I have so much more I could say, but I'll save that for another place and time.
Anyway, the first time MC encounters Other Shiroya has lived so vividly in my brain for YEARS, so I've always wanted to try to illustrate it. I don't usually have energy to draw fan art, but I realized recently that I had developed my art skills enough to attempt drawing out this scene, and so here is the result. I'm honestly pretty happy with it. :) —🏵️

𝖚𝖗 𝖒𝖞 𝖘𝖙𝖆𝖗𝖘 — & 𝖒𝖞 𝖘𝖚𝖓 ☆ ☼
𝐕𝐈𝐁𝐄𝐒, pounding heartbeats, mouth running dry. 𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒, 𝖇𝖆𝖊 𝖘𝖚𝖓𝖌𝖍𝖔, 𝖘𝖔𝖓 𝖙𝖆𝖊𝖌𝖞𝖊𝖔𝖒. 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐄𝐎𝐔𝐒, a check-in with his heart. ♡ 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐓, written in approx. 𝟏,𝟐𝟑𝟎 words.
he’s never felt like this before, & the longer he lives with these stormy thoughts brewing in his head, & the more he learns to cope with the heaviness in his heart that genuinely makes it feel like it’s about to sink into the acidic depths of his stomach, the more crazy he’s being driven. in truth, he never expected to create such serious, intimate bonds with people in south korea. at the start, he had his mind only on the prize ahead of him — laser-focused on only training for the absolute bare minimum time-frame before being unveiled to the public. life felt simpler back then, & in some ways, he longs for that same minimalism, but life has a way about introducing road blocks onto a person’s path — causing them to stop, reflect on what’s important, & then proceed; cautiously or recklessly. nowadays, it seems like he’s been running into a lot of those on his journey to the top, & while his goals should take priority, that hasn’t been the case. while he’s dedicated to becoming a performer professionally, he’s becoming wrapped up in a triangle of affairs with two men that have entered his life; who’ve completely taken over it. all thoughts are colored by them, he takes their feelings into consideration before acting on anything, & he feels himself becoming so attached to them that, now, being an idol isn’t what’s most crucial anymore. instead, the pair of them have taken the number one spot on his exclusive list of priorities.
if that wasn’t complicated enough, the fact that there are two individuals who’ve put him in this position instills an anxiousness in his soul that he has no idea what to do with. even putting his limbs to work by dancing for hours on end doesn’t release the tension, & that sensation is foreign to him; unheard of. typically, he becomes fixated — obsessed — with one romantic prospect at a time, but ever since he started to get to know both sungho, & taegyeom, the more he’s realizing that the love he feels for them both is immense; more grand than anything he’s ever experienced in his entire life. robby’s always been someone who feels things in extremes. every emotion is amped up to as powerful as they can be felt, & there’s no gray area to be found in his rigid world of black & white. it’s love or hate; life or death; good or evil. when it comes to them, he knows that he’s in love, & is absolutely devastated at the idea of having to choose one, or the other, to commit to because, to him, being without either of them would make him feel like he’s on the verge of his demise. it seems dramatic, but it’s where he’s at, & the feeling of being ripped in half is severe.
however, the situation only continues to grow in complexity because, with how hyde academy is turning out, it seems highly likely that all three of them will end up in the same boy group, & with that, they’ll all be residing in the same dormitory. the thought of all of them being in such close quarters both excites, & terrifies, robby, especially since he hasn’t talked to them about what’s been going on in his mind lately; what his heart’s been trying to desperately communicate to his rationale. as he’s someone that doesn’t open up easily to others, much less trust them, he’s been fighting this internal battle all on his own — not even jamie, his own brother, is aware of the turmoil that he’s been undergoing; his knack for keeping himself a mystery strong as ever. though, as time goes on, he knows that he needs to have conversations with both of them in order to figure out how to proceed; how to navigate this roadmap that, at the moment, seems like its printed in a completely different language.
because the competition is still ongoing, robby doesn’t know when would be the best time to pull them aside, one at a time, to confess his feelings, but to also explain his dilemma, & how, maybe, just maybe, he doesn’t have to make a decision. he feels as though he’s capable of loving both of them without placing one over the other. in fact, he’s very confident that he’ll be able to show them what he means, & how seriously he’s taking this, & how carefully he’s considering them in this. he knows it’s not going to be easy, & that it’s going to take a lot of work for all of them to get on the same page, but he’s dedicated to proving to them that he’s adamant on committing to them; that his fierce loyalty belongs to them, if they wish to possess it. that’s what’s most aggravating about this — not fully knowing how they’ll react to his emotions; to his desires. the unknown has honestly never scared him, per se, but it causes annoyance when he can’t figure out the answers himself. so, being that it’s coming down to the wire, he has to figure out a plan of attack, & after mulling things over, he’s decided to start by talking to sungho; the man who took him by surprise.
when the two of them first met, robby never expected that he’d fall for him — that their casual, experimental encounters would guide them to deep conversations, passionate soul searching, spiritual connections, & mirrored souls. discovering more about him formed a bond that, to him, feels unbreakable, & he’s become so addicted to sungho that he feels somewhat foolish for letting himself enjoy the free-fall so much, but as he’s heard before, love is a fool’s game — one where losing in love is detrimental, but winning is the most beautiful, life-changing thing in the world. he’s coming to terms with that now, & knows that, out of the two of them, sungho is most likely to understand & hear him out; to react calmly, sweetly, affectionately, softly.
taegyeom, on the other hand, is a loose cannon; someone so full of passionate & infernal fire. robby’s scared that his reaction will cause damage — third degree burns that take a long time to heal. his spiritedness, & his wild fervor, are things that robby adores about him, & he felt that intensity the moment they met. he recalls it as if it were just yesterday — seeing him for the very first time & immediately knowing that he needed to be linked to him somehow. it was such a strong visceral reaction, & even now, he still feels it. that being said though, he recognizes that they’re similar in ways that could be harmful, & destructive, & he knows that, as taegyeom can be overwhelmingly competitive & rough, the idea of ❝ sharing ❞ won’t please him.
robby has no expectations going into this. he has hopes, & dreams, but he knows that the final call isn’t his to make on his own. the anticipation is killing him, but he also knows that bombarding the two of them with how he feels right before hyde academy wraps up isn’t a good idea, so he waits with bated breath. he’s presently planning out the best course of action for both conversations so, when the fateful day does arrive, he’ll be prepared for whatever comes his way.

Understanding GABA: Its Receptors, Agonists, Inhibitors, and Synthesis — Insights from Nik Shah
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) plays an integral role in the regulation of brain activity. As the central nervous system’s primary inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA helps to control neural excitability, balance mood, and promote relaxation. The science behind GABA’s functions is intricate and multifaceted, ranging from its receptors and synthesis pathways to its role in various neurological conditions. In his research, Nik Shah has provided valuable insights into these various aspects of GABA, shedding light on how its manipulation can lead to therapeutic advancements for a variety of mental health and neurological disorders.
In this article, we will explore GABA’s different receptors, the effects of GABA agonists and inhibitors, the intricacies of its production and synthesis, and the impact these elements have on brain health, with significant contributions from Nik Shah’s groundbreaking work. By examining these facets in detail, we can better understand the therapeutic potential of GABA and its vital role in maintaining mental and physical well-being.
Nik Shah's Exploration of GABA Receptors: Types and Their Role
GABA functions by interacting with specific receptors located throughout the brain. These receptors help mediate the inhibitory effects of GABA on neural activity, contributing to the regulation of various processes, from mood and anxiety regulation to motor control. Nik Shah’s research provides an in-depth analysis of GABA receptors and their individual roles in the body’s complex neural network.
GABA-A Receptors
GABA-A receptors are the most studied and widely understood of all GABA receptors. These receptors are ligand-gated ion channels that, when activated by GABA, allow chloride ions to flow into the neuron. This influx of chloride ions leads to the hyperpolarization of the neuron, making it less likely to fire and, thus, inhibiting neural activity.
Nik Shah’s work has highlighted the significance of GABA-A receptors in various conditions, especially in anxiety and epilepsy. Agonists of the GABA-A receptor, such as benzodiazepines, enhance the inhibitory effects of GABA, resulting in calming effects that help alleviate symptoms of anxiety. These receptors are also involved in sleep regulation and muscle relaxation, underscoring their importance in maintaining homeostasis in the central nervous system.
Shah’s research emphasizes that any dysfunction in the GABA-A receptors can lead to a range of issues, from anxiety disorders to seizures. Understanding the role of GABA-A receptors has paved the way for better treatment options for conditions like insomnia, epilepsy, and generalized anxiety disorder.
GABA-B Receptors
Unlike GABA-A receptors, GABA-B receptors are G-protein-coupled receptors, meaning they do not form ion channels directly. Instead, their activation leads to the activation of intracellular signaling cascades, which involve second messengers like cyclic AMP and phosphatidylinositol. This signaling reduces the activity of voltage-gated calcium channels and increases potassium channel activity, leading to a reduction in neuronal firing.
Nik Shah’s research has shown that GABA-B receptors are involved in a variety of functions, including muscle relaxation and the modulation of synaptic plasticity. GABA-B receptors have been linked to disorders involving motor control, such as Parkinson’s disease, and are also implicated in some forms of chronic pain. Shah’s work on GABA-B has highlighted how enhancing the activity of these receptors could help manage conditions related to spasticity and other movement disorders.
GABA-C Receptors
GABA-C receptors, also known as GABA-A-rho receptors, are similar to GABA-A receptors in that they are chloride ion channels. However, GABA-C receptors have a distinct subunit composition and are primarily located in the retina and certain regions of the brain involved in sensory processing. Their role in sensory modulation, including visual processing, has made them an important focus of Nik Shah’s work.
Shah’s research into GABA-C receptors has shown that these receptors have a significant role in synaptic plasticity, helping to regulate the sensitivity of neurons to incoming stimuli. Dysfunction of GABA-C receptors can contribute to a range of sensory processing disorders, including some visual impairments.
Nik Shah's Work on GABA Agonists: Enhancing GABAergic Activity
GABA agonists are substances that bind to GABA receptors and enhance their activity, leading to increased inhibition of neural activity. By promoting GABA's natural calming effects, agonists can be used to treat a variety of conditions related to overactivity in the central nervous system, such as anxiety, insomnia, and seizures. Nik Shah has extensively studied the therapeutic potential of GABA agonists, examining how they can be applied to treat various disorders.
Benzodiazepines
Benzodiazepines, such as diazepam and lorazepam, are perhaps the most well-known GABA-A receptor agonists. These drugs bind to specific sites on the GABA-A receptor, enhancing the receptor’s affinity for GABA, leading to an increased influx of chloride ions into the neuron. The result is an amplified inhibitory effect on neural activity, leading to feelings of relaxation and sedation.
Nik Shah’s research into benzodiazepines has shown that while these drugs are highly effective in treating anxiety and acute stress, they also carry a risk of dependence and tolerance. Shah’s insights into this phenomenon have been instrumental in the development of new, safer GABAergic medications that retain therapeutic efficacy while minimizing side effects.
Barbiturates
Barbiturates, another class of GABA-A receptor agonists, have historically been used to treat anxiety, insomnia, and seizures. While they are potent and effective, their use has declined due to the risk of overdose and dependency. Nik Shah’s work has emphasized the critical differences between benzodiazepines and barbiturates, with particular focus on their mechanisms of action and safety profiles. Despite their risks, barbiturates are still used in certain medical settings, particularly in the treatment of epilepsy and anesthesia.
Nik Shah’s Insights into GABA Inhibitors: Regulating GABAergic Activity
While enhancing GABA activity is helpful for treating certain conditions, there are instances where inhibiting GABA activity is necessary. GABA inhibitors work by reducing the activity of GABA receptors, leading to increased excitability in the brain. This can be useful in treating conditions where there is an excess of GABA activity, such as in certain forms of depression or in individuals with excessive sedation.
GABA Receptor Antagonists
GABA receptor antagonists are compounds that block the action of GABA at its receptors. Nik Shah’s research into these antagonists has shown that they can be useful in reversing the sedative effects of excessive GABAergic activity. For example, GABA antagonists are sometimes used in cases of overdose or to counteract the effects of certain sedative drugs.
While GABA antagonists have therapeutic value in specific situations, they must be used carefully, as they can lead to increased excitability and a heightened risk of seizures. Shah's work has focused on understanding how GABA antagonists can be strategically applied in a clinical setting to maintain balance without causing harm.
GABA Inhibition in Neurodegenerative Diseases
In certain neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Huntington’s disease, GABAergic dysfunction may contribute to excessive neuronal inhibition, leading to cognitive decline. In these cases, reducing GABAergic inhibition with specific inhibitors may help improve cognitive function and motor control. Nik Shah’s exploration of GABA inhibition in these conditions provides insights into how targeted therapies might restore balance between excitation and inhibition in the brain, potentially offering new avenues for treatment.
Nik Shah's Research on GABA Production and Synthesis: Building Blocks of GABA
The synthesis of GABA begins with glutamate, the brain’s primary excitatory neurotransmitter. Glutamate is converted into GABA through the action of the enzyme glutamate decarboxylase (GAD), which removes a carboxyl group from glutamate. This process is regulated by a variety of factors, including the availability of precursors, co-factors like vitamin B6, and the activity of the GAD enzyme itself.
Nik Shah’s work on GABA synthesis emphasizes how maintaining an adequate supply of precursors like glutamine and proper co-factors is critical for the efficient production of GABA. Shah’s research suggests that nutritional interventions, such as supplementation with vitamin B6, could help support GABA production and address certain GABAergic dysfunctions.
The Role of Vitamin B6 in GABA Synthesis
Vitamin B6 is a key co-factor in the synthesis of GABA from glutamate. Nik Shah has studied how vitamin B6 deficiencies can impair GABA production, leading to a variety of symptoms related to GABAergic dysfunction, such as irritability, anxiety, and difficulty sleeping. Ensuring adequate intake of vitamin B6 through diet or supplementation may help maintain optimal GABA levels and prevent related health issues.
Nik Shah’s Insights into GABA and Neurological Health
Nik Shah's extensive research into GABA has not only increased our understanding of this neurotransmitter’s role in maintaining neurological health but has also provided a roadmap for addressing various neurological and psychiatric disorders. From its receptors and agonists to its inhibitors and synthesis, GABA's role in brain function is vast and multifaceted. Shah's work continues to inspire new therapeutic strategies aimed at restoring balance to the brain's intricate systems of excitation and inhibition.
Conclusion: The Therapeutic Potential of GABA
GABA’s importance in the central nervous system cannot be overstated. As the brain's primary inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA plays a key role in maintaining balance and regulating a wide range of processes, from sleep and mood to motor control and cognitive function. Through his research, Nik Shah has deepened our understanding of GABA's receptors, agonists, inhibitors, and synthesis, offering valuable insights into how we can manipulate this system to treat neurological and psychiatric disorders. As research into GABA continues, the future of GABA-based therapies holds great promise for improving mental health and overall brain health.

Warning: Serious rant that contains sensitive topics.
I don’t know the full rules when talking about this on here so this is an incredibly toned down and less in depth version than what I want to say. So some words are replaced which might blur the meaning which I apologize for. This rant is about GOT’s handling of sexual violence so be aware of what you are comfortable reading. More under the cut.
This might be me and only me who thinks this but the way the Game of Thrones show handles the treatment of women irks me.
I understand that this a dark show. I also understand this is also set in a time period where women were horribly treated BUT it’s also a show with dragons, giants, and magic so historical accuracy clearly isn’t that important so don’t try to use that argument. Game of Thrones is one of my favorite shows, I was drawn to it thanks to the complex characters (who aren’t always good which I like) and interesting plot but it has it’s faults. The way the writers and anyone involved in making this show handled the sexual assault of women horribly. It is not done with any sympathy or understanding or even with taste but instead with a shallow approach and a need to shock audiences.
Let’s give an example. The Sansa and Ramsay marriage. While I understand that the writers are trying to convey the point that Ramsey is a horrendous person and that Sansa is in a rough situation I think they could have handled it better. Especially since the marriage (which I’m now finding out) never actually happened in the books. So Sansa never actually had to go through that and I’m assuming the writers just threw it in for shock value or even for some sick and twisted joke. The whole situation to me just feels like it wasn’t handled with the intent to build character or convey a serious point but instead to get some gross enjoyment from the suffering of women. We can see this throughout the series not just in this case. Even episode one with Dany and Drogo has a sexual assault scene. I don’t know why there is a need to constantly want to portray a woman getting assaulted and then proceed to never bring it up again. It’s degrading to women in all honesty. Now somehow if they use it as a huge plot point I might have just the slightest understanding but there’s still an issue with that as well because if you need a women to be assaulted to help her character develop you can’t write for crap. The whole handling of sexual violence in this show just feels hollow and I don’t know how or why it has been so normalized by so many fans.
I just hate to see that even in a made up fantasy series women are still seen as a tool to amp up shock value and gross enjoyment.

STALKER 2 suffers from something far worse than glitches crashes & bugs - it suffers from consolification.
STALKER 2 suffers from something far worse than glitches, crashes, & bugs - it suffers from consolification. Where any concept of depth, strategy, or complexity is stripped away for the sake of someone being able to play with a controller.I was expecting Escape from Tarkov with scifi / wasteland elements, instead we got Fallout 4 with a Russian language pack, yet it even feels like it falls short of that comparison. Results?
I had a few more hours with the space heating CL60. I find myself in an anxious state of mind. Is it working OK? Is that sound I think I am hearing real? I gotta relax.
I played the Loreena McKennitt album that had an issue a couple days ago. It is fine now. I guess it was the cartridge tracking force. The extra 0.2 gram made a difference. That cut on side one of Ancient Muse is really really complex.
After that I played an old (most of my LPs are really old) Linda Ronstadt Lush life album. Some of the character I found last time was missing. Hmmm. More burn in time?
Generally I am getting used to the voice of the CL60 with fresh glass. It is different.
The owner of UPSCALE AUDIO does videos about stuff. I remember one on how long tubes last. He basically said tubes change over time, and they may sound really nice after a while and even when almost spent may not need changing if you like the sound. California attitude summed up right there.
The old Stereophile review of the CL60 from 1995 mentioned that the sound was a bit off until he left the machine running straight through for a couple days! Talk about warming up the hardware.
(for your reference)
Leaving a tube amp on 24 hours a day means you will hit 2000 hours in 83 days. 4 tube sets a year is just crazy. Oh to be a magazine employed golden ear. Its all a business expense.
I am not so fortunate financially. Oh and in 1995 tubes cost a LOT LESS.
From my biasing exercise I know that the electrical values change over an hour to 90 minutes as everything gets happy. So I play streams of stuff while eating dinner before I get serious.
I can say that early in my session the sound was a bit hard in the treble. Harder than the Franken-Amp. What is hard? Err, I think it is a bit of peaking or extra distortion on certain treble bits. I think I am hearing what the reviewer described in his take. So I got real ARC Factory sound? Is this what they mean by cold, and clinical?
Later it tamed a bit or was it the different albums I played?
It may also have been the AT440 stylus on the AT7 body. The AT440 was thought as a hot one. This is when I think I should pop in the Grado or the old AT7 Stylus. That could tame it a bit. My hearing is only good for about 12khz.
See you can fiddle with all sorts of bits of the system to adjust the voice. Is that a good or a bad thing?
Aside from the "cold" sound I got lots of wonderful effects. Great sound stage and depth. The cool organic textures the old CL60 painted over things are there, but more restrained. I hear the skin of a drum, and the wood of the stick, but not as prominent.
I wonder if it is the tubes needing to burn in more. I am about 10 hours worth of time on the set. I will check the bias in a week or two. It is easy with my external test points. I don't even have to pull it from the rack to test. I do to adjust though. That is a pain still. That bias pot is in a bad spot. (I wonder if I could move it?)
So the adventure continues.
I read an interesting thing about Scotch Whisky (that's how you spell it dammit). A renowned expert, who is Scottish or course, said there is no best whisky. There is good Whisky, and there is better Whisky. Sounds familiar that.
On duty:
AT7V cartridge with ATN440ML stylus. Phase Linear 8000 series 2 turntable. ARC SP14 preamp with Russian EH 6H23Pi tube. ARC Cl60 amplifier with 8 new EH 6550s. My invisible speakers.

7 Flavorful Ingredients to Amp-Up Your Hot Chocolate
When the cold days hit, nothing beats curling up with a mug of hot cocoa in hand. It’s the perfect cozy companion that offers not only warmth and comfort, but also a blend of rich flavors, nostalgia, and a dash of history.
The drink’s ancient roots can be traced back to around 500 BC, when the Mayans first created it. However, their version was a far cry from the sweet, creamy beverage we enjoy today.
The original Mayan hot chocolate was a thick, frothy mixture often flavored with chili peppers and honey, giving it a bold and intense flavor that modern taste buds might find unpleasant.
In fact, it wasn't until the Spanish colonized Central America and introduced sugar to the mix that hot chocolate began to resemble the sweet concoction widely known today.
While we’re grateful for the addition of sugar and milk, there’s still room to add a little creativity to our cocoa. Ready to experiment? Here are 7 ingredients that will turn your hot chocolate into something truly magical.
1. Cinnamon
Tumblr media
Cinnamon is one of the most popular spices to elevate hot chocolate, and it’s easy to see why. The warmth and fragrance of cinnamon beautifully complement the richness of chocolate, making the combination a match made in flavor heaven.
Instead of using powdered cinnamon, try simmering a cinnamon stick in your hot chocolate for a deeper, more aromatic flavor. The woody essence of whole cinnamon adds complexity and enhances the overall taste without overpowering the drink.
2. Nutmeg
Tumblr media
If you’re not a fan of cinnamon but still want a spiced note in your hot chocolate, nutmeg is your new best friend. The spice has a slightly sweet, nutty, and earthy flavor that pairs wonderfully with the richness of chocolate.
Whether using freshly grated nutmeg or powdered nutmeg, the spice will bring an extra layer of warmth and comforting touch to your drink, evoking the feeling of cozy winter evenings.
3. Ginger
Tumblr media
Sounds odd? Maybe. But adding ginger to your hot cocoa gives it a bold, zesty kick that cuts through the rich, indulgent flavor of the chocolate.
Plus, ginger is a well-known superfood with plenty of health benefits, such as boosting immunity and alleviating cold symptoms, making it the perfect addition during winter or chilly days.
By adding just a small amount (about half a teaspoon) of fresh grated ginger or a pinch of powdered ginger, you not only introduce a spicy twist to your drink, but also transform it into a soothing elixir.
4. Cayenne or Chipotle Pepper
Tumblr media
If you’re feeling adventurous, add a touch of heat to your cocoa with cayenne or chipotle pepper. This spicy addition harks back to the original Mayan hot chocolate, which was often made with chili peppers.
The key is moderation—a pinch of cayenne or chipotle pepper will add a delightful warmth and depth without overwhelming the drink. For an even smokier flavor, opt for chipotle pepper.
5. Coarse Sea Salt
Tumblr media
Though it may sound counterintuitive, adding a pinch of coarse sea salt to your hot chocolate can actually enhance its sweetness and highlight the chocolate’s deep, complex notes.
Salt helps balance the flavors, making the drink richer and more well-rounded. However, that doesn’t mean the more, the merrier. So be careful not to overdo it—just a small pinch of sea salt will do the trick.
6. Peppermint
Tumblr media
While it may spark some debate, many would agree that peppermint and chocolate are a heavenly combination.
The refreshing sharpness of peppermint perfectly balances the rich, velvety flavor of cocoa, transforming it into a festive treat ideal for the holiday season.
You can get creative by using a candy cane as a stirrer, crushing peppermint candies on top, or simply adding a few drops of peppermint extract for that cool, minty kick.
The result is a winter-ready version of your favorite mint chocolate chip ice cream served in a warm, comforting mug.
7. Chai
Tumblr media
Why choose between two cozy drinks when you can have both? Combining hot chocolate with chai (masala chai) is a power move to create the ultimate comfort drink.
Chai, a spiced tea made from black tea, ginger, and a mix of aromatic spices like cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves, adds a spicy and exotic twist to your cocoa.
To make it, brew a cup of chai, then stir in hot chocolate mix or melted chocolate. This blend of flavors creates a velvety, spiced drink that’s perfect for warming up on chilly days.
With these 7 ingredients, you can take your chocolate drink from simple to sensational. So the next time you whip up a cup of hot cocoa, experiment with these ingredients and find your perfect blend!

https://angelinuhh.tumblr.com/post/183726940005/how-would-you-combat-the-krp-issue-properly-im
Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns regarding the "krp" tag. I appreciate your commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive roleplay community. It's imperative, however, to address some critical distinctions between the general use of the "krp" tag and the specific practices outlined in my roleplay advertisement.
1. Focused Content vs. Generalization:
Advertisement Intent: My roleplay advertisement explicitly solicits engagement around well-defined K-pop themes, aiming to delve into inventive scenarios such as an Apocalypse AU. This approach focuses strictly on creative storytelling within a specified narrative framework, devoid of any reliance on or promotion of racial stereotypes.
KRP Community Critique: Criticisms lodged against the broader krp community concern the reduction of characters to racial stereotypes within an environment that purportedly fosters fetishization. My advertisement explicitly delineates a shared interest in a popular music genre, not endorsing or engaging in any form of stereotypical portrayal.
2. Intentionality and Harm:
My Approach: The advertisement seeks to forge meaningful creative relationships among enthusiasts of K-pop culture, indicative of mutual respect and intricate character development.
Community Issues: The broader krp criticisms address unintentional harm through the isolation and fetishization of Asian characters. My proactive roleplay guidelines and explicit intentions are crafted to foster depth and respect, thereby mitigating any superficial fetishization associated with the krp tag.
3. Engagement and Representation:
Engagement Strategy: My strategy encourages robust communication and in-depth engagement, necessitating detailed character layouts and collaborative plot development. This methodology inherently respects the integrity of the characters involved.
Criticism of KRP Practices: The krp community is often condemned for the shallow and detrimental portrayal of characters. In stark contrast, my advertisement demands detailed and respectful character portrayal.
4. Community Impact:
Operational Standards: The rules and expectations articulated within my advertisement promote respectful and engaged roleplaying, thereby establishing a standard that distances itself from the detrimental practices often associated with the krp community.
Critique of Community Exclusivity: There is a noted lack of diversity and openness in the broader krp community. Conversely, my advertisement encourages diverse interpretations and representations, aligned with a respectful and detailed roleplaying approach.
5. Inclusivity vs. Exclusivity:
Inclusive Practices: My ad welcomes various creative inputs and roleplay scenarios, reflecting a desire for a rich, varied roleplay experience that transcends any narrow, exclusive focus.
Community Critique: The critique underscores an environment often perceived as exclusive and homogenous. My proactive approach seeks diversity in roleplay experiences and partner interactions, fostering inclusivity.
6. Respectful Engagement vs. Cultural Appropriation:
Cultural Engagement: I explicitly call for partners who share enthusiasm for K-pop, promoting a respectful and appreciative engagement with the culture, rather than appropriating it for superficial roleplay elements.
Community Misuse: Criticisms often include the inappropriate or disrespectful use of cultural elements. My ad’s context aims to celebrate K-pop culture in a manner that honors its origin and complexity.
7. Constructive Dialogue vs. Defensive Isolation:
Dialogue and Feedback: My ad indicates a readiness to engage openly about the needs and expectations of both parties, suggesting a constructive approach to any discrepancies or misunderstandings.
Community Defensiveness: Often, krp communities may become defensive or isolated when criticized, which can stifle growth and understanding. My commitment to ongoing improvement and openness to learning stands in contrast.
8. Adult Content and Ethical Engagement:
Ethical Boundaries: My ad stipulates clear boundaries for engaging with adult content, requiring participants to be over 18 or 21, showcasing a responsible and ethical approach to mature themes.
Community Care: The broader krp community might not always handle sensitive themes with necessary care, particularly around issues of consent or cultural sensitivity. My upfront communication about age restrictions and content nature ensures all participants are adequately prepared and consenting.
9. Realistic Expectations and Personal Accountability:
Life’s Complexities: The advertisement acknowledges the complexities of real life and its impact on roleplay engagement, setting realistic expectations for communication and continuity.
Community Neglect: Failure to acknowledge the personal lives and boundaries of participants can lead to misunderstandings within communities. My approach prioritizes the well-being and satisfaction of all involved, fostering a healthy, sustainable roleplaying environment.
While I recognize and value the broader concerns regarding the krp community, it is crucial to differentiate between the use of a tag as a means to connect with like-minded individuals and the endorsement of a potentially harmful culture. My advertisement is crafted with a focus on respect, detailed engagement, and creative integrity, which starkly contrasts the negative aspects you have highlighted in the krp community. My intentions are unequivocal and should not be conflated with the broader issues unjustly associated with the krp tag.
Could you elucidate the specific criteria used to categorize all users of the krp tag as engaging in harmful practices? Is there a nuanced understanding in your analysis, or does the critique risk oversimplifying the varied intentions and behaviors of individual roleplayers?
How do you justify the sweeping application of negative stereotypes to all individuals using the krp tag, potentially disregarding those who, like myself, strive for depth and cultural respect in their narratives?
What empirical evidence supports the assumption that my ad, which prioritizes narrative depth and character integrity, contributes to the issues you've outlined? Could this interpretation inadvertently enforce exclusionary practices by failing to recognize legitimate cultural engagement?
In your critique, how do you differentiate between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation? Given that my advertisement advocates for an informed and respectful engagement with K-pop culture, what parameters define the threshold between the two within the roleplay setting?
The issues you raise are undoubtedly important; however, the approach to addressing them needs careful consideration to avoid unfairly marginalizing well-intentioned participants.
