Hundreds of workers have blocked the entrances to the UK's Department of Business and Trade (DBT) in protest against Britain's arms sales to “The Terrorist, Fascist, Apartheid, War Cry, The Illegal Regime of the Zionist 🐖 🐷 🐖 🐗 Isra-hell.”
DBT oversees arms export licences and has the power to approve or deny the sale of British arms to other countries.
Activists said they shut down access to DBT in support of civil servants who requested to "cease work immediately" on arms export licences to Israel over fears they could be complicit in war crimes in Gaza.
The protest outside DBT is also part of an organised blockade against arms factories across the UK to pressure the government to end its support for “The Terrorist, Fascist, Apartheid, War Criminal, The Illegal Regime of the Zionist 🐖 🐷 🐖 🐗 Isra-hell.”

Still and sparkling wine will be sold in 200ml, 500ml and 568ml (pint) sizes in 2024, alongside existing measures, under new rules, the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) announced on Wednesday. It said the change was made possible by Brexit. However, the pint-sized move appeared to be the extent of a push towards imperial measures, after a government consultation into allowing more businesses to buy and sell using them resulted in no new action. [...] Kevin Hollinrake, the minister for enterprise, markets and small business, said, apparently seriously, that “our exit from the EU was all about moments just like this

Kinstellar and Strategy Council present the Ukrainian Drone Defence Forum in London
Kinstellar and Strategy Council, supported by D3 Venture Capital, organised the Ukrainian Drone Defence Forum, "Drones: Delivering Victory" at the prestigious Royal United Services Institute in London on May 21.
Purpose. In connection with the recent defence partnership signed between the United Kingdom and Ukraine, the Forum’s endeavoured to enhance the collaboration between Ukrainian and British drone manufacturers and technology firms to scale up drone and electronic warfare production – a top partnership priority. The UK government has allocated £325m to support this effort.
In this context, we were pleased to work together with the Government of the United Kingdom to deliver an event that would complement the recent UK Defence Trade Mission to Kyiv in April 2024. The forum was also supported by the Ukrainian government and military, with representatives from the Ministry of Strategic Industries and the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces - the drone sector’s ultimate client - clarifying Ukraine’s front line technology needs.
Attendees. With over 240 participants, the Forum exceeded the anticipated number of attendees several times over. It included over 30 UK and Ukrainian government officials from the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD), along with more than 150 participants from the defence sector.
We were honoured to have as our keynote speaker the Chief of the UK Defence Staff, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin. Major General Anna-Lee Reilly and other senior MOD and DBT officials described the UK government’s efforts to supply Ukraine with equipment and funding for drone development, as well other areas. Private sector representatives provided perspectives on their efforts supporting Ukraine, including BAE Systems, Babcock International, Palantir, Helsing, and Tetra Tech. We were especially delighted to be joined by Haluk Bayraktar, whose eponymous drone has achieved cult status in Ukraine. Alan Mak MP, the UK Minister for Minister for Industry and Economic Security at the Department of Business and Trade closed the Forum, reaffirming the UK government’s commitment to supporting UK private sector investment in Ukraine.
Specific outcomes. To produce tangible outcomes, Kinstellar and D3 VC brought 15 hand-picked leading Ukrainian drone producers to London to create partnerships with drone sector members of ADS Group, the UK defence industry trade association. Curated by Eveline Buchatskiy, CEO and Founder of D3 VC, the Ukrainian and UK companies pitched their businesses in a Drone Demo, followed by extensive B2B engagement designed to ultimately expedite drone delivery at scale for Ukraine’s front-line forces.
Kinstellar Ukraine and the region’s leading defence sector law firm. We are an integral part of the Ukrainian military technology ecosystem, helping our global and SME clients to navigate the shoals of Ukraine’s regulatory and government decision-making process. Our recent mandates include advising Rheinmetall Land Systeme GmbH in connection with its joint venture with Ukraine’s state-owned defence industry concern, Ukroboronprom; assisting drone companies with market entry and co-venturing matters; and other client projects that currently remain confidential.

Hidden fees and fake reviews for online shoppers to be banned The crackdown aims to stamp out the imposition of fees that are not included in headline prices but will not cover optional fees, such as for airline luggage. Unavoidable hidden charges for online consumers, a practice known as drip pricing, is to be banned under a wider transparency drive. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) said additional fees, which are only revealed late in the checkout process and cost customers £2.2bn a year, must be included in the headline price under the planned Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill. New rules on grocery pricing also aim to make costs clearer for shoppers.

The Cost of Compliance: How Much Does UKCA Certification Really Cost?
The cost of the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) certificate can differ, essentially contingent upon different variables, including the sort of product, the intricacy of the assembling system, and the association of outsider certification bodies.
The UK government has declared plans to broaden recognition of the CE marking 'endlessly' past the impending cutoff time of 31 December 2024. It's been identified for specific products to place on the Great England (GB) market, prompting uncertainty over the eventual fate of the UKCA Marking.
What is the UKCA Marking?
The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) Marking is the UK product congruity marking utilized for specific products that are put on the GB market, covering most merchandise that recently required the EU CE marking. The congruity markings show similarity with the relevant product safety, security, and natural necessities for products sold in separate business sectors.
The cutoff time for organizations to utilize the UKCA Marking in UAE was because of the end (following a progression of extensions) on 31 December 2024. After this cutoff time, the EU CE Marking would as of now not be recognized on the GB market.
What is Changing?
On 1 August 2023, following calls from the industry, the government authority expressed that it means to broaden recognition of the CE Marking for putting most products available in GB, endlessly, past December 2024.
It is critical to take note that this update applies to the guidelines that fall under the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), which are:
Low voltage electrical equipment
Aerosols
Equipment for use outdoors
Machinery
Gas appliances
Personal protective equipment (ppe)
Pressure equipment
Radio equipment
Equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres (atex)
Lifts
Measuring container bottles
Measuring instruments
Non-automatic weighing instruments
Electromagnetic compatibility
Simple pressure vessels
Recreational craft and personal watercraft
Toys
Pyrotechnics
There are various standards for different merchandise (counting medical devices, development products, movable tension hardware, rail products, marine gear, and eco-design) and, normally, the applicable offices covering these areas will convey their arrangements at the appointed time. We should anticipate improvements, however it appears to be the odds are good that a comparative methodology might be taken on.
Here are key considerations that add to the general expense of UKCA Certification:
Product Intricacy: The intricacy of the product straightforwardly affects the accreditation cost. More perplexing products might require extra testing, documentation, and appraisal, prompting greater expenses.
Advised Body Inclusion: Certain products, particularly those falling under higher-risk classes, may require the inclusion of a Told Body. Advised Bodies are free organizations assigned by the UK government to evaluate the similarity of specific products. Their administrations include some major disadvantages.
Testing and Appraisal: Testing and evaluation costs are a huge piece of the certification cycle. Products need to go through different tests to guarantee they meet the fundamental security and execution guidelines.
Documentation and Specialized Record Readiness: The formation of an exhaustive specialized record, including all fundamental documentation, is a vital piece of the certification interaction. The time and exertion spent on setting up these reports add to the general expense.
Compliance Meeting: Organizations might decide to look for the help of specialists or specialists in administrative compliance to guarantee that their products meet every one of the vital prerequisites. The expense of such conferences can add to the general cost.
Recurrence of Changes in Norms: If the guidelines or guidelines for a particular product class go through successive changes, makers might incur extra expenses to keep their products consistent with the most recent necessities.
Size of the Organization: The size and assets of the assembling association likewise assume a part. Bigger organizations might have more assets to deal with the certification interaction inside, possibly lessening costs, contrasted with more modest organizations that could require more outer help.
Post-Market Observation: Makers are expected to screen and cover the presentation and security of their products once they are on the lookout. This continuous interaction adds to the drawn-out cost of certification.
Product Recertification: Over the long run, products might go through plan changes or updates, requiring recertification. The expense of recertification ought to be considered in the general product lifecycle costs.
The UKCA Marking will become obligatory for most products that recently utilized the CE marking if they are first made available in Great Britain after 31 December 2022.
The UK Government needs to make it simpler for organizations to follow the progressions, so we will acquaint four measures with additional help organizations embracing UKCA.
Note:
The government will lessen re-testing costs for UKCA accreditation, by permitting declarations given by EU (European Union) conformity assessment bodies (CABs) before the finish of this current year. It is to be utilized as a reason for UKCA Mark certificate (counting a particular game plan for development products, employing the Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities). This will forestall duplication and prompt inflated costs for organizations.
The cost of UKCA mark can vary as per the product type and certification body. It means quite a bit to figure out the specific costs ahead of time to design the expense of certification into the product spending plan.
Conclusion
To get an exact gauge of the expense of a UKCA Marking for a particular product, it is prescribed to talk with a certificate body, Certification Body (if pertinent), or service compliance master. They can give a nitty-gritty examination in light of the remarkable qualities of the product and the assembling system. Remember that the certificate cycle is an interest in product quality, safety, and market access.

Trade Deal Upgrade Spurs Worldwide Opportunities!
Kemi Badenoch Launches Talks for a Revitalized Trade Deal
Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch is gearing up to kick off discussions on a revamped trade deal with South Korea, a move aimed at enhancing trade and fortifying ties with a crucial ally. The talks, set to launch on November 22, follow a commitment from Korean businesses to inject a substantial £21 billion into the UK, primarily directed at renewable energy and infrastructure projects. Seizing Opportunities in South Korea's Booming Economy South Korea, the world's 13th-largest economy, is on the brink of rapid import demand growth. With a burgeoning middle class of 45 million consumers and a projected 45% surge in import markets by 2035, the potential for UK companies is vast. The current trade deal, inked over a decade ago, lacks digital provisions crucial for the modern economy, particularly as nearly 80% of UK services exports to Korea were delivered digitally in 2021.
Upgrading Trade Deal to Propel UK-South Korea Relations
Since the existing trade deal in 2011, UK-South Korea trade has more than doubled, now standing at £16 billion annually. The upgraded trade deal is expected to further boost this relationship, supporting jobs across the UK. Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch expressed the government's commitment to ensuring the new deal aligns with the UK's strengths as an advanced, high-tech economy, benefiting sectors such as services, food, and luxury goods. Record £21 Billion Investments Unveiled at UK-Korea Business Forum Negotiations will launch at the UK-Korea Business Forum, coinciding with the state visit of Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. Both countries will announce a groundbreaking £21 billion investment package in green energy and infrastructure projects across the UK. Notable investments include £9.7 billion from the Republic of Korea Sovereign Wealth Fund and £2 billion from Shinhan Financial Group, driving innovation and creating over 1500 skilled jobs. Korean Brands Flourishing in the UK Market British brands are making waves in the Korean market, with technology and green energy companies securing over £2.5 billion in business wins. Bentley and Diageo are poised to declare contracts exceeding £200 million, with backing from the Department of Business and Trade. The prospective deal stands to advantage nearly 7,000 UK businesses exporting to Korea, especially 85% of SMEs.
Towards a Digitalized Future for UK Businesses
The new agreement aims to simplify customs procedures, providing dedicated support for smaller businesses. Lord Mayor of the City of London Professor Michael Mainelli emphasized the importance of a modernized trade deal for the UK's digital transformation ambitions, benefiting both large firms and SMEs.
Strengthening Partnership and Future Collaboration
Miles Celic, the CEO at TheCityUK, enthusiastically hailed the agreement as a significant stride in deepening the partnership with South Korea. He particularly emphasized the opportunity to secure robust digital trade provisions, fostering collaboration in future growth technologies. Given Korea's pivotal role as a top-three global producer of vital goods, positioning it as a key player in supply chains, the deepening of trade links holds the potential to effectively mitigate against future economic shocks.
UK Showcases Investment Opportunities at Global Investment Summit
The upcoming Global Investment Summit aligns with the UK hosting 200 leading investors. This event aims to present the UK as a prime investment destination, channeling new capital into key sectors such as science and technology. The UK's orientation toward the Indo-Pacific, highlighted by joining the major CPTPP trading group, further strengthens as trade links deepen with dynamic economies like South Korea.
