A senior Ukrainian official has said that the impact of Azerbaijan’s blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh is being exaggerated as a Russian effort to distract the world’s attention from the war in his country. In an interview with the Moldovan public broadcaster, Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, said that the blockade was being “pumped up” in order to “distract attention from the war in Ukraine and redirect it to other conflict spots so the whole world looks there.” In the interview, the Moldovan presenter framed the blockade in Karabakh as a Russian plot. “Some experts” say that Russia is preparing a “Crimea scenario” for Karabakh, she said to Podolyak, suggesting that the territory’s new de facto leader, Russian-Armenian billionaire Ruben Vardanyan, was sent from Moscow for the purpose. While Armenian sources claim that 120,000 ethnic Armenians are living in Nagorno-Karabakh, “in fact it’s three times smaller,” the presenter claimed, saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin used the same tactic of distorting population sizes as part of the process of seizing control of Crimea and other parts of Ukraine.[...]
Podolyak’s reading of the conflict was echoed in a number of other officials’ statements at around the same time. Lyudmila Marchenko, a member of parliament in Zelenskiy’s Servant of the People party who has long supported Azerbaijan, gave several interviews in which she made many of the same points. “As an ally of Russia, Armenia is using similar methods to maintain control over Nagorno-Karabakh that Russia does for control over Crimea,” she said in one interview. “Raising the estimates for the quantity of people living in these territories, Vardanyan speaks about 120,000 residents, but by objective assessments there are 40,000 people there.” Another MP from a different party, Igor Popov, wrote an article at the same time also taking issue with the population estimates, and denying altogether that there was a blockade. “Azerbaijani activists are not preventing the transit of civilian and humanitarian transportation,” Popov wrote. “But the leadership of unrecognized Karabakh is using the situation to show shortages of food and the threat of a ‘humanitarian catastrophe,’ and blaming Azerbaijan and the activists for it.”[...]
Ukraine has long taken a pro-Azerbaijan position vis-a-vis the conflict with Armenia. The conflicts share some common patterns, as Armenia and Russia have forcibly taken Azerbaijani and Ukrainian territory, respectively, with the purported aim of unifying their ethnic kin on that territory.

I've been told that Ukraine's analogous to Armenia here, while Azerbaijan is analogous to Russia. strange that Ukraine doesn't seem to think so.

Francis Ngannou KOs Renan Ferreira in the 1st round!
Looks like spending all that time focusing on boxing did not take away from Ngannou's wrestling game that he discovered over his last two MMA fights against Miocic and Gane. Was able to pressure Ferreira backwards to the fence and shoot the double to take the giant Brazilian fighter down. Ferreira tried to work a triangle but Ngannou escaped. Francis proceeded to just wail on him as Ferreira tried to turtle up. I think Ferreira ate like 5-6 shots AFTER he was already out. Just went limp. Scary stuff.
Ngannou makes a successful return to the sport of MMA. No promises that he isn't going to go chase another fight in boxing. But not really sure what is next for him. Probably the winner of Denis Goltsov vs. Oleg Popov, the 2024 PFL heavyweight tournament final.

In Brooklyn, a teenager, later identified as Russian Dmitry Popov, killed O'Shea Sibley while the latter was dancing to a Beyoncé song at a gas station.
Officials reported that Popov was charged with hate murder. During the altercation, Popov is understood to have fatally stabbed Sibley in the chest on the evening of July 29 at the Mobil gas station on Coney Island Avenue. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced that the 17-year-old accused of murder will be tried as an adult in the juvenile division of Superior Court.
Popov surrendered to police last week after police found a video of the attack. Sibley and Popov were among two groups of people who started an argument after Popov and his friends allegedly told Sibley's friends that they were offended by their dancing. Popov allegedly shouted homophobic and racist slurs at Sibley before plunging a knife into his chest.
The Brooklyn prosecutor assured that his team is taking the case against Popov "very seriously".
Popov's lawyer has denied the allegations, saying the teenager is a "good Christian boy" and not a Muslim, as local media initially reported.
Defence attorney Mark Pollard noted that police did not recover the knife Popov allegedly used to kill Sibley. "If they had found the knife, I wouldn't have heard it in court," Pollard said.
Asked about Popov's presence at the scene the night of Sibley's death, Pollard said, "No comment."

Sunny Day Jack X Reader:
I Never Forgot 3
What if you were one of the few people who remembered vividly about Sunny Day Jack... even after the whole show seemed to have been forgotten?
☀️Rating: Fluffy
🌈 Part 1 | 🌈 Part 2
❤💛💙❤💛💙❤💛💙❤💛💙❤💛💙❤
You let out a sigh as you sat on your couch, exhausted from work. Carol, one of your co workers, had something come up today so you had to cover for her. Plus, summer was one of the busiest seasons for Popov's Big Top Yogurt-Topia. It wouldn't have been so bad if the workplace wasn't understaffed. The past several months, however, have been... manageable. Getting adjusted to Jack living with you not only wore you out but also trying to appear normal in public when he would try to talk to you. That, and you couldn't deny that you were developing feelings for him. Feelings from your childhood was surfacing day by day. As a child, you had developed a crush on Jack before you even knew what a crush actually was. In your eyes, he was... perfect.
"Sunshine?"
Jack's voice startled you from your thoughts, making you jump a little. You placed a palm over your heart. "Geez, Jack, you startled me."
"Aw, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."
"It's fine. Just..." You could feel your cheeks grow hot. You had to think of something to say to distract you from your thoughts. "It's just been one of those days."
"Do you wanna cuddle?"
"Mhmm." Considering the day you had, a nice hug or cuddle from him sounded nice. He sat beside you, then he pulled you into his side and wrapped his arm around you, being gentle as to not squish you.
"There, how's that? Feels good?"
"Yeah."
He softly chuckled as he rubbed a hand up and down your arm. "You've been working hard. You deserve to take it easy, y/n." He says. He had watched you work your job, trying to stay professional while tending to the customer's wants. Jack was right. You deserved a break... a rest. Good thing it was your day off tomorrow.
You let your body fall into him, using him to support your tired and achy body.
"You're an amazing person, you know that, right?"
You looked up at him. "Hm?"
"You're amazing... and kind... and wonderful. You're... well, YOU. And other people just don't see that because they are too busy worrying about their own lives to actually acknowledge or appreciate you." He paused. "And that makes you feel like you're forgotten and alone in the world..."
You gave a nod. You did think that way and felt that way sometimes. You were amazed at how Jack seemed to know what to say, or what you were thinking...
"Mhmm."
"No matter what, know that you're not alone. You've got me, and I'll always be there for you."
He wrapped another arm around you, pulling you so close to him, your head laid on his chest. Silence was all that filled the room. You didn't feel like turning on the TV right now. Just being in Jack's embrace and hearing his soft breathing was enough right now. However Jack finally broke the silence.
"Y/n?"
"Yes?"
"Don't forget me..."
He looked at you, a sad smile on his face. He seemed to think a bit about what he wanted to say. "I want you to know that... I'll never ever forget you. I promise. And I want you to promise me the same in return."
You softly smiled at him. "I never forgot you all this time ... I'll never forget you." You saw his eyes brighten and feel his arms tighten around you. Your heart started to race. The way he was looking at you made your stomach fill with butterflies, and your chest with warm and fuzzy feelings.
"Say, Sunspot. Since you've worked hard this week, how about I spoil you tonight?"
The great big smile on his face and his dazzling eyes made you smile, as well. That... did sound nice. You never really splurged on yourself, or anything like that.
"What did you have in mind?"
"I'll do whatever you want me to. I just want to help you relax."
Hmmm....
"A massage sounds nice..."
"Alright, then. Anything else?"
"I'lllll.... let you know." You small smiled. He just chuckled and gently squeezed your shoulder.
This final part has been a pain to write (you probably can tell). However, I plan to write short oneshot/drabbles with Sunny Day Jack and other characters in SWWSDJ when things in life settle down. ☁️🌈☀️

ep 3 mentopolis highlights:
- "oh my god. we gotta get Elias to touch his balls!"
- Conrad releasing one of the eagle talons on his guilt
- Anastasia remembering her key is in her freezer from the four F's which is just referencing a different thing
- Conrad's personality shift as a hotshot driver
- the whole thing about M.Bition's speech where at first he frames it like their chance to feel good and flood the city with dopamine and all the good stuff was ruined because of Imelda. but then he says "we don't get to feel good until I say we get to feel good" where its like, oh. in the same way that ambition promises happiness from your success, it also denies you happiness in other areas of your life. you don't let yourself feel good about yourself because you're not meeting your expectations so you feel like you don't deserve it.
- the image of Foot Stuff as a kaiju wading through the fog approaching mentopolis
- Hunch Curio fucking killing it what a scene with the prize fight and the first appearance of the box of doom. plus Dan Fucks committing even more and betting his whole fortune. incredible
- the reveal of SD to be Self Doubt
- the legend of Stacy Fakename grows
- Conrad saying fuck and standing up for himself :))
- the mechanical thing that Brennan did for Dom Nuntz was really cool, I love that Trapp rolled high twice and we get to see the slow progression of Dom's sharp score going up and getting closer and closer, and Trapp spending his moxie to clutch at the last second....hell yeah
- the pressure system is really cool way to up the tension of the table as the stakes get higher in a tangible way that affects gameplay
- Ivana Popov, who is another addition to my list of fav NPCs of which there are MANY
- The Fix confronting the DA and the DA dropping all niceties and being like "how does that help us" in response to The Fix. and also calling fun facts fucking useless. and can I just say. I was so fucking offended on behalf of The Fix. It makes sense for ambition to be dismissive of whimsy and interesting things but still. fuck you. The Fix said your hair looked nice. He said you looked lovely. He's such a sweet guy who the fuck do you think you are you rat bastard fuckhead shithead cunt. M.Bition more like M.Barrassment I would hate to be seen walking down the street next to your joyless dismissive pathetic ass. get outta here. I'll kill you
- Again. So much ball talk.
- Hank discussing how The Fix is still a little on the fence in Adventuring Party and he's not like the rest of the gang which makes sense. Hyperfixation, logic, these are not so much motivations as they are a means to an end. The Fix is the how. Concepts like Conrad or Dan Fucks or Hunch Curio are the why. All this while The Fix has been working in service of M.Bition but it could change. and also I love Hank for choosing to confront the DA even though him personally would 100% not do that. he's acing this roleplay jazz

By Hurubie Meko and Wesley Parnell
Published Aug. 8, 2023Updated Aug. 9, 2023, 8:53 a.m. ET
In the days after O’Shae Sibley, a Black gay man, was killed during an altercation outside a gas station in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn, the picture that emerged suggested an explosive combination of homophobia, religious intolerance and racism.
A witness said a group of men that included the teenager charged in the killing used homophobic slurs and told Mr. Sibley that they were Muslim, and he should stop dancing. Some initial media reports picked up that account. Mayor Eric Adams and the police held a news conference at which the mayor stressed that the killing was not evidence of Muslim hatred of gay people.
Now, it appears the man charged with Mr. Sibley’s murder is not Muslim at all. The suspect, Dmitry Popov, 17, is Christian, his lawyer said, altering at least one aspect of a killing that has drawn national attention.
Mr. Sibley’s death had raised concerns about how the charged accusations could hurt relations between two marginalized communities, gay people and Muslims. In fact, the two groups stood together.
At the news conference on Saturday, Mr. Adams, joined by leaders from the city’s gay and Muslim communities, said that both L.G.B.T.Q. people and Muslims have been victims of hate, and the two communities “stand united against fighting any form of hate in this city.”
Mr. Sibley, a dancer and choreographer, was returning from New Jersey to his home in Brooklyn on the evening of Saturday, July 29, when he and his four friends stopped at the gas station, the police said. As the men filled up their car, they played music by Beyoncé and danced, and a group of men approached and told them to stop.
Sign up for the New York Today Newsletter Each morning, get the latest on New York businesses, arts, sports, dining, style and more. Get it sent to your inbox.
The men yelled homophobic slurs and anti-Black statements at Mr. Sibley and his friends, according to Joseph Kenny, an assistant chief at the Police Department’s detective bureau, at a news conference on Saturday.
Summy Ullah, a 32-year-old gas station attendant who witnessed the encounter, said one of the young men said, “I’m Muslim. I don’t want this here.”
Within minutes, the heated verbal altercation had turned violent, according to the police. Mr. Sibley was stabbed once in the chest, Mr. Kenny said. He was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Mr. Popov, 17, a high school student from Brooklyn, turned himself in last Friday and was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree murder as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon. He was denied bail in State Supreme Court in Brooklyn on Monday and is being held in detention.
Court documents said that a witness heard the group with Mr. Popov say, “Stop dancing here, we are Muslim.”
But at the court hearing and in an interview on Tuesday, Mr. Popov’s lawyer, Mark Henry Pollard, pushed back against some of the initial narrative: Mr. Popov is not Muslim, Mr. Pollard said.
“He’s Christian,” he said in a phone interview. “Somehow they got it confused, he’s not a Muslim. I could understand if there were other friends that were, but he was the only person arrested.”
Right after Mr. Sibley was stabbed, Mr. Ullah tried to chase down the attacker.
“I’m Muslim myself,” said Mr. Ullah, who immigrated from Pakistan. “When I saw them dancing, I was laughing too, but I wasn’t making fun of them. Everyone has their own perspective, gay, transgender. We have gay people in our countries as well. You don’t make fun of them. They don’t say anything to you. They aren’t making fun of you.”
Sayeda Haider, 23, arrived at the gas station shortly after the stabbing and found Mr. Sibley’s friends weeping. She comforted them and told them she hoped their friend’s killer would be caught.
Days later, Ms. Haider, who is Muslim, said she had reflected on the possibility that someone used her religion to justify an act of violence.
“It can’t be because of religion, because we dance,” she said. “We are strict, but we’ll dance at parties.”
In Islam, as in many religions, there are extremists who reject L.G.B.T.Q. people, she said, but she said that she had been raised to let people live their lives as they choose.
“We also came here because of freedom, because of the rights, so let other people have their rights too,” she said.
Soniya Ali, executive director of the Muslim Community Center, who also spoke at the news conference on Saturday, said it was not a “surprise or a shock” that the narrative that the person who killed Mr. Sibley was Muslim spread in the news media. Ms. Ali said she had neither experienced or witnessed any backlash from the gay community since Mr. Sibley’s killing.
She said she spoke on Saturday to show support for the L.G.B.T.Q. community in New York City, who she said were the first ones to reach out after former President Donald J. Trump instituted a travel ban soon after taking office barring visitors from six predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States.
What’s important now, she said, is making sure that the focus remains on the tragedy of Mr. Sibley’s “senseless murder.”
“He was murdered. It was a hate crime,” she said. “That’s the gist of it.”
For Beckenbaur Hamilton, 51, a neighbor and friend of Mr. Sibley, the attacker’s religion is not important.
“That part isn’t even relevant,” said Mr. Hamilton, who is gay. “It doesn’t matter if he is Christian, Muslim, Jewish. If a person takes a person’s life he should be held accountable.”

Former commander of the 58th Army of the Russian Armed Forces Ivan Popov was arrested on suspicion of fraud
Mash reports this with reference to law enforcement agencies. Popov is accused of illegally selling two thousand tons of metal structures worth about 100 million rubles, which were intended for the construction of a defense line in a combat zone.
The Gray Zone Telegram channel, close to the Wagner PMC, connects the case with the conflict that occurred in July 2023: then Popov made a report to Army General Valery Gerasimov, where he spoke about problems in the army. Within 24 hours, Popov was removed from his post by then Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. “He was sent to Syria. If my memory serves me correctly, he spent about six months in Syria, after which he was summoned to Moscow, where he became a witness in a criminal case right at the airfield. Even then it was clear to me that the status of the respected general would soon be changed. If you believe public information, which is also confirmed by my sources, Major General Ivan Popov received the status of an accused and was even detained. He is charged with 159 Art. Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, namely the theft of some space for his position of 100 million rubles from defensive structures in the Zaporozhye region. That even for the “smallest” it is clear that this is a complete mess,” wrote the author of the channel.

Donald Padgett writing for The Advocate has this story about O'Shea Sibley's alleged killer, the 17 year old Dmitry Popov:
"The lawyer [Mark Pollard] for the teen accused of killing O’Shae Sibley at a gas station last month because the Brooklyn dancer’s voguing offended his Muslim religion claimed his client is actually 'a good Christian boy' with many Black friends. Much of the attack was caught on surveillance video...
'He has many Black friends, and his brother is married to a Black woman,' Pollard also told the NY Daily News. 'Nothing in his background makes me think he hates Black people or the LGBTQ people, and he denies that.'"
Which sounds like so many other utterances by people over the years, the decades--or centuries: "I'm not like that, some of my friends are ________!" or "Well, you're not like that, you're O.K., it's those other ________ that are a problem" and such stuff.

O’Shae Sibley's killer may have lied about his religion during the attacks as a way to incite division.
August 8th
A witness said a group of men that included the teenager charged in the killing used homophobic slurs and told Mr. Sibley that they were Muslim, and he should stop dancing. Some initial media reports picked up that account. Mayor Eric Adams and the police held a news conference at which the mayor stressed that the killing was not evidence of Muslim hatred of gay people. Also confirmed by his grandma and mother prior, but since this is a lawyer during a court hearing I think is much more safe to think.
It's very scary how manipulative this creature was, not only killing a person because he was just dancing and enjoying life more than this parasite probably had going to church and slaving away at two jobs during his useless life time(based on claim by the mother and grandma) but trying to use his death as a political wedge to attack other minorities to paint them all as just as extremist for brianwashed as him for another week of digital religious crusades.
I hope this gets stuck into people's heads that fascist terrorists do in fact lie about their identities and exploit it explicitly to innocentize and sanitize the far right and to muddy it's regressive genocidalist history so today's lobotomized right wingers can come on the internet and act like they have nothing to be held accountable for while demanding mea culpa from any leftist individual their encounter.
Fascists did it during WW2 and they will keep doing it as long as the media and public allow themselves to be manipulated by it.
