Interesting Tidbits on Mean Median, Mode, and Range Calculator
What is the mode and its classifications?
Allcalculator.net’s mode is the measure of central tendency in a series that determines the value occurring most frequently in a given series. Investigators extensively use modes for measuring the taste and preferences of people for a specific brand.
The mode is a preferable measure of central tendency to mean and median. A distribution can either be uni-modal, bi-modal, or multi-modal.
No modal value – each series observation occurs the same number of times.
Example: the series 3, 4,5,4,3,5,2,2; there is no modal value as every item occurs twice.
Uni-modal – one observation or item of a series occurs the maximum number of times.
Example: the modal value of the series 2,4,2,5,2,6,8 is two as it occurs for the maximum number of times.
Bi-modal – two observations of a series have the same maximum frequency.
Example: 4, 5,4,6,5,7,8,9, is 4 and 5 where both the items occur two times
Multi-modal – more than two series observations have the same maximum frequency.
Example: 2,3,4,4,5,5,2,1,1,7,6,9,8 are 2, 4,5, and 1, which are repeated more than one time in the series.
What are the merits and demerits of mode?
Merits of mode
Simple and popular – mode is a simple measure of central tendency as it can easily determine the modal value by glancing at the series.
Graphic location – you can locate the mode of a given series through the graph.
No need to know all items – in simple series, the highest frequency value is enough to determine the mode.
Least effect of Marginal Values – the mode is the measure of central tendency that carries the least effect of the marginal values in a series.
The best representative value – mode is the value of a series that occurs most frequently.
Demerits of mode
Uncertain and Vague – Amongst all measures of central tendency, the mode is vague and uncertain.
Difficult – the frequency of all items in a statistical series is identical, and it is difficult for the investigator to identify the modal value of that series.
Not capable of further Algebraic Treatment – unlike the mean, one cannot perform further algebraic Treatment with mode.
Ignore extreme margin

Being Safe and Responsible On The Road
By Lydia Quinn | Submitted On August 23, 2019
Fasten your seatbelt! The passengers inside a moving vehicle are traveling the same speed as the speedometer indicates. When a vehicle hits a solid object the people inside keep moving until something stops them. If you are not wearing your seatbelt, you will be either thrown out of the vehicle, or the steering wheel, windshield, dashboard, other objects or another person might be what stops you. This "human collision" often causes serious injury.
Everyone is responsible for avoiding collisions. Even if someone else does something wrong, you may be found responsible for a collision if you could have done something to avoid it.
Be courteous while driving. It means giving other drivers space to change lanes, not cutting them off and signaling your turns lane changes properly.
Drive defensively. It means being able to see dangerous situations before they happen and to respond quickly and effectively to prevent them.
Turn on headlights one-half hour before sunset and keep them on until one-half hour after sunrise. Don't drive with only one headlight or with lights that not aimed properly.
Use signals to tell other drivers what you want to do. Give the correct signal well before the action and make sure other drivers can see it.
Keep to the right of the road unless you want to turn left or pass another vehicle. Get into the habit of driving in the right lane, leaving the other lanes clear for passing. Left lane is the passing lane in all multilane roads.
Obey speed limits. Where there are no posted speed limits, the maximum speed in 50 km/h in cities, towns, villages and built-up areas.
Yield. At an intersection without stop signs or lights, you must yield the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the right. At an intersection with stop signs at all corners, if two vehicles stop at the same time, the vehicle on the left must yield to the vehicle on the right.
Stop for school buses. No matter what direction you are traveling in, you must stop whenever you approach a stopped school bus with its upper alternating red lights flashing, unless you are on a road with a median. (A median is a raised, lowered or earth strip dividing a road where vehicles travel in both directions.) You must obey the school bus law on any road, no matter how many lanes or what the speed limit. Be prepared to stop for a school bus at any time, not just within school hours. If you don't stop for a school bus, you can be fined $200 to $1,000 and get six demerit points for a first offence.
Shoulder check while parking. If you are reversing straight back or to any direction, turn you body and head to the direction and look back over your shoulder. If you need to remove your seat belt to turn your body to see properly when reversing, do so. But don't forget to buckle up again before moving forward.
Upon entering a freeway, always use the acceleration lane to raise the speed to the common speed of traffic on the freeway before merging with traffic. Be careful not to cut off any vehicle when joining the flow of traffic. It is dangerous and illegal for a slower moving vehicle to cut in front of a faster moving vehicle.
If you must use a cellular phone when driving, use a hands-free microphone. Make it a habit to use your cellular phone only when you are parked, or have a passenger use the phone.

NCERT Class 11 Psychology Chapter 2 Methods of Enquiry in Psychology
NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Psychology Chapter 2 Methods of Enquiry in Psychology
NCERT TEXTBOOK QUESTIONS SOLVED
Question 1. What are the goals of scientific enquiry?Answer: There exists diversity in types of researches or studies undertaken by psychologists but they all seem to share some common goals of enquiry, which are as follows-:
Description
This helps to define the phenomena and distinguish it from other phenomenas.
Description is necessary because any event or behaviour may have many aspects.
For example, the idea of entertainment varies from reading books to going to pubs, depending on the individual.
The recording of event or behaviour is an integral part of description.
Prediction
Prediction means forecasting of events.
It establishes relationship between two variables.
For example, one might say exercising leads to weight loss.
In psychology all predictions are made within a certain margin of error i.e. they are not pin-pointed or exact.
Explanation
Explanation involves knowing the cause or the reason behind the behaviour.
It also tries to understand the conditions under which a particular behaviour occurs. For example, a child behaves rudely whenever he is disturbed so his disturbances become the cause of his rude behaviour.
Control
Control means creating change in the phenomenon or behavior.
It refers to making behaviour happen, reduction in it or enhancement in it.
The changes produced by psychological treatment in terms of therapy are good examples of control.
Application
Psychological researches are often conducted to solve various problems faced by file society.
Psychology helps in solving problem at individual, organizational or community level.
For example, therapies are provided to individuals and counseling is also there to help them.
At file organizational level, various psychological concepts like work motivation are used to enhance performance. At file community level, counseling is provided to help people engage in various , helpful and eco-friendly behaviours.
Question 2. Describe the various steps involved in conducting a scientific enquiry.Answer: Scientific research or study is a clearly defined process that goes through a series of steps—
Conceptualising a problem
The process begins when a researcher selects a theme or topic for study.
Then the research questions or problems for the study are formulated.
Problem is based on the review of past researches, observations and personal experiences.
Problem indicates the relationship between variables. For example, what is the relationship between reward and classroom learning?
After formulation of problem, the hypothesis is formed, which is the tentative and testable statement about the relationship between two variables. For example, increased amount of reward will lead to betterment in learning.
Collecting data
Data collection requires developing a research design or a blueprint of the entire study.
Participants of the study are decided, depending on the nature of study, they could be children, adolescents, college students, teachers, workers, elder people etc.
Methods of data collection like observation, experimental, correlational method etc are decided.
The next decision is taken about the tools to be used, like interview schedule,. questionnaire, survey etc.
Procedure for data collection is decided i.e. how the tools need to be administered to collect data i.e. individual to collect data i.e. individual or group administration.
This is followed by actual data collection.
Drawing conclusions
The next step is to analyse data to understand its meaning.
The graphical representation of data is made using, bar diagram, pie chart, histogram, mean, median, mode, standard deviation etc.
The purpose of analysis is to verify a hypothesis and draw conclusions accordingly.
Revising research conclusions
The research begins with the hypothesis.
Then researcher sees whether the conclusions support this hypothesis or not.
If conclusions support the hypothesis then it is confirmed.
If it is not confirmed researcher revises or states an alternative hypothesis/theory and again tests it and the same process continues.
Question 3. Explain the nature of psychological data.Answer: Data is any information related to mental processes, experiences and behaviour, collected by using various tools.Psychological data are of different types, such as-:
Demographic informationThis information includes personal information related to a particular individual. This includes name, age, gender, education, marital status, residence, caste, religion, income etc, which are personally relevant.
Physical informationThis includes information pertaining to physical environment i.e. ecological condition. It also includes information about economy, housing conditions, facilities at the home, in the school, transportation etc.
Physiological dataThis is related to Biological data. For example, height, weight, heart rate, level of fatigue, EEG, reaction time, sleep, blood pressure etc is collected.Data related to animal’s biological functioning is also collected.
Psychological informationThis includes data regarding psychological functioning of individual. It involves data about intelligence, personality, attitudes, values, emotions, motivation, psychological dysfunctions, consciousness etc. Thus obtained data is divided into various categories, so that it can be analysed using statistical measures.
Question 4. How do experimental and control group differ? Explain with the help of an example.Answer:
Experimental group: The subjects in study who receive some special treatment in regard to the independent variable. In an experiment this group is administered the independent variable (the variable that is manipulated to see its effect on any other variable under study).
Control Group: control group is a comparison group.
The independent variable is not administered on this group.
Subjects in a study who do not receive the special treatment given to the experimental group.
The purpose is to see whether any difference occur in two groups as a result of application of independent variable on experimental group. For example, suppose, an experiment is carried out to study the effect of presence of others on helpful behaviour, one participant was put in a situation requiring help, say, someone drowning in swimming pool, here five other people were also present, another participant was alone in the emergency situation. In an experiment except for the experimental manipulation, other conditions are kept constant for both the groups.
Question 5. A researcher is studying relationship between speed of cycling and the presence of people. Formulate a relevant hypothesis and identify the independent and dependent variables.Answer:
Variable: It is any stimulus or event which varies or can take on different valves can be measure e.g. weight, height.
Hypothesis: It is a tentative and testable statement which expresses relation between two or more than two variables, e.g.: those who are rewarded shall require lesser number of trials to learn than those who are not rewarded.
Independent variable: It is the variable which is systematically manipulated or altered in an experiment. It is the cause.
Dependent variable: It is the variable that is measured in an experiment. It is the effect.
As per the question:Hypothesis. Presence of others will enhance the speed of cycling.Independent variable. Presence of others Dependent variable. Speed of cycling
Question 6.Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of experimental method as a method of enquiry.Answer: Experimental method is aimed at discovering causal relationship between various factors by manipulating the situation under totally controlled conditions.Characterstics:
Experimentation involves manipulation of variables to study their effect on other aspects.
Experiments are carried out in totally controlled condition.
Subjects or individuals are assigned to experimental and control group, randomly.
All factors other than manipulated variable that might affect the dependent variable are kept constant.
Advantages:
Experimental method aims at establishing cause-effect relationship between the variables.
Replication and verification of obtained result is possible.
The investigator can manipulate the independent variable according to thedemands of the situation.
It can be performed at any time.
It is very objective—No personal bias exists.
Limitations:
Experiments are conducted in a very artificial and unrealistic situations-the setting is not natural.
They lack external validity i.e. generalizability. Since they are not done in natural settings, the results can’t be generalized with confidence.
It is difficult to control and know all extraneous variables like – motivation, emotion, state etc.
It is not always possible to study a problem experimentally. For example, personality can’t be studied experimentally.
Question 7. Dr. Krishnan is going to observe and record children’s play behaviour at a nursery school without attempting to influence or control the behaviour. Which method of research is involved? Explain the process and discuss its merits and demerits.Answer: Dr. Krishnan would use the method of non-participant observation to observe and record children’s behaviour at play without attempting to influence or control the behaviour. He would sit in a corner and observe the children’s behaviour without them being aware of it. He would note the behaviour of children while playing, how ’ they interact with each other and their reaction towards winning or losing. He would collect all the data in a file and then match the conclusion with the hypothesis.Merits of non-participant observation:
The researcher observes the people and their behaviour in naturalistic settings.
The observer can get first hand information regarding the subject.
Demerits:
This method is time consuming, labour intensive and subject to personal biases.
The researcher may interpret the behaviour based on personal values.
Question 8. Give two examples of the situations where survey method can be used. What are the limitations of this method?Answer: Survey Method is a research method utilizing written questionnaires or personal interviews to obtain data of a given population. For example: Surveys are used in variety of situations such as
They can be used in political regime to know whether people approve or disapprove any particular policy of government, say for example, policy of reservation in higher education or Nuclear deal with America in recent times.
They are used during elections also to know who will people vote to.
Surveys can also be used to test hypothesis about the relationship among variables. One may try to find out the effect of some event on people’s behaviour. For example – Surveys have been conducted after the earthquake at Bhuj in Gujarat to find out the impact of earthquake on people’s lives.
In marketing area, before launching a product surveys are often conducted. They are used to assess people’s attitude on various social issues such as family planning and gender equality.
Limitation:
The major difficulty is the issue of accuracy and honesty of the responses as the respondents attempt to create favourable impression – faking is possible.
Surveyor’s bias also affects the results. He/she may ask the question in such a way as to elicit desired response.
Surveys remain at the surface and it does not penetrate into the depth of the problem. They are time-consuming and expensive.
These techniques make the respondent conscious. So he/she may mould his/her responses.
Survey demand expertise, research knowledge and competence on the part of the researcher. Most of the survey researchers don’t possess these qualities in the required amount. This invalidates the quality of survey.
Sample selected might not be the true representative of the population.
Question 9. Differentiate between interview and questionnaire.Answer: Interview :
Interview is a face to face interaction between two people
They can be structured or unstructured
Interviews are flexible; questions can be added or altered.
Interviewer can dig deeper by posing counter question and by noticing non-verbal clues.
They are subjective in nature.
It is not a good tool for those who can’t express themselves verbally
It requires highly skilled person as interviewer.
Questionnaire :
It consists of a form containing a series of questions where the respondents themselves fill in the answers.
Questionnaire is always structured.
It is not possible to know anything more that what is asked in the question.
They are highly objective.
Sometimes someone else can also fill in the questionnaire other than the target person.
Clarification of questions is sometimes not possible.
They can be administered to a large number of people at a time.
Comparatively less skilled person can do the Interpretation.
Question 10. Explain the characteristics of a standardised test.Answer: Characteristics of a standardised test:
Reliability: Reliability refers to the consistency of scores obtained by an individual on the same test on different occasions. If the test is reliable, these showed not be any variation in the scores obtained by the students on the 2 occasions. For this we can complete the following:(i)Test-retest reliability: it indicates the temporal stability. It is computed by finding out co-efficient of correlation b/w the 2 sets of same people.(ii) Split-half reliability: It gives an indication about the degree of intends, consistency of the test. .
Validity: For a test to be usable, it must be valid. Validity refers to the question “does the test measure what it claims to measures”. E.g. If a test is for assessment intelligence, it should only be testing intelligence and not aptitude.
Norms: A test becomes standardized if norms are developed for the test, norm is the normal average performance of the group. The test is administered on a large number of students. Their average performance standards are based in their age, sex, place of residence, etc. this helps us in compassion of performance of groups and individual students.
Question 11. Describe the limitations of psychological enquiry.Answer: LIMITATIONS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL ENQUIRY:
Lack of true zero pointPsychological measurements do not have a true zero point like physical sciences. For example, there is no zero interest, attitude or personality. So the measurements are not absolute, they are relative in nature.Sometimes ranks are also used as scores.
Relative nature of psychological toolsPsychological tests, Questionnaire etc. are not universally applied; they are made for particular context.Tools developed in urban context may not be applied in rural area, also western tests and other tools may not apply elsewhere.
Subjective interpretation qualitative dataThe data which can’t be categorized or quantified in scores or ranks, runs the risk of subjective (individual, personal) interpretation.Every researcher may give different meanings to data.
Question 12.What are the ethical guidelines that a psychologist needs to follow while conducting a psychological enquiry?Answer: Since psychology largely deals with human beings, so the researchers need to follow some moral principles which are as follows:
Voluntary participation
This means that participants have the freedom to choose whether to participate in the study or not.
Use of force or coercion or any other pressure should not be used.
Participants should have the right to withdraw from study any time without penalty.
Informed consent
Participants in a study should understand what treatment they will undergo during study.
This information should be given before the study/research starts.
If at times it is not possible to reveal all the information, they should be at least explained the nature of study before it starts.
Debriefing
Sometimes due to the nature of the study it becomes necessary to withhold some information from the participants, this is known as deception.
So after the study is over the participants are given complete information to complete their understanding of research. For example, suppose a researcher wants to study the relationship between frustration and aggression, the participants will not be informed that they’ll be put in a frustrating situation; otherwise experiment or study will have no conclusions; so here deception is necessary. However, after it is over they should be told that they were aroused deliberately. , Why was it done should also be explained.
It ensures that the participants leave the study in the same physical or mental state as when they entered.
Efforts should be made to remove any anxiety or other adverse effects from the minds of the participants as a result of being deceived in the study.
Sharing the results of the studyIt is obligatory for the researcher to go to the participants and share the results of study with them.Participants expect that the results of study done with them will be told to them, they want to know about their behaviour and where do they fall as compared to others. It has two advantages-:
One, researchers full fill the expectations of the participants.
Second, the participants may tell the researcher about something else which may provide supplementary information.
Confidentiality of data sources
The participants have right to privacy.
This right is protected by keeping the information provided by them in strict confidence.
It becomes more important if the information is personal and may become embarrassing if revealed.
The information should be used for the purpose of research only.
To maintain confidentiality one should not record their identities.
Sometimes identity is required, in such cases code numbers should be given on the data sheet and the names and their codes should be kept separately.

7 Principles That Influence Our Behaviour
The default setting of a product may create a better or worse habit for your users. Nudging people with a message may increase their spendings.
Or sometimes, creating an ambient environment may influence what you buy in a store. There are several principles that we interact with on a daily basis, which might help us design better products. Or not.

Limit the number to increase the amount bought
When there are a limited or scarce resource and high demand, people are more willing to pay excessive amounts for the product or service. And the perceived fear of missing out on something is particularly motivating as we are loss-averse too. What this means is that we find losses roughly twice as painful as gains are pleasurable.
One experiment tested the power of limiting the number of soup cans that a person could buy. When a limit was set, the amount of cans customers purchased went up. On average by 70% from their usual 2 or 3 cans.
The suggestion that something is in scarce supply makes us want it more.
Also, a great example here is Adidas with their NMD shoe collection. The company being on a decline for some time, a couple of years ago they decided to launch a new, now very successful, shoe collection called NMD. Besides the fact that the design was cool, they sold only a limited amount of shoes for each collection launch (10k of pair if not mistaken). So if you were one of those people who wanted to buy the shoes, they were sold in less than 24 hours.

Context may influence your behaviour
Sensory Priming is about how our behaviour can be influenced by each of our 5 senses (sight, sound, smell, taste and touch). An experiment in the UK tested playing music from different countries in a wine shop. The research found that French wine easily outsold German wine when French music was playing and vice-versa. Only 2% of customers interviewed afterwards even mentioned the music;
A similar thing happened to me. It was at Sephora in Amsterdam, and they were presenting a new collection of skin care and perfumes for men (inspired from Japanese culture). And they added decorations to the room in a Japanese style. And created an entirely new environment only for the collection. The music, the ambience, the smell. And in the end, I bought those items…

Remove the symbol to reduce the “pain”
Only thinking about spending money can make you experience a kind of physical pain. If you were to be put into a brain scanner right now and we played a game where you lost your money, the part of the brain that would light up is the same part that feels physical pain.
Studies have shown that by removing the currency symbol ($) or the currency word (dollars) from menus, average spending can increase by 12%. This is because people who see only the numerical value, are less concerned about the price of what they are ordering.
The same thing applies to paying with credit cards. Only the fact that we don’t see losing money (paying for something) makes the act of paying less painful and stressful. Which leads us to our next cognitive principle — loss aversion.

We hate losing stuff
Loss aversion refers to people’s tendency to prefer avoiding losses to acquiring equal gains. “It is better to not lose $5 than to find $5.” What distinguishes loss aversion from risk aversion? The utility of a monetary payoff depends on what was before experienced. Or was expected to happen. Some studies have suggested that losses are twice as powerful, psychologically, as gains.
We are by nature loss averse. We hate losing stuff — no matter if it is money or simple points. An interesting experiment of gamification was applied and implemented in Italy for drivers.
As a car driver, you receive a certain amount of points (20). And every time you violate a traffic rule, for example ignoring the traffic light, you lose points (in this case 6). This psycholgical trick decreases the chances that you will do it again. And due to its effectiveness, many countries applied this demerit point system (more info).
Note: Some countries do it vice-versa. They give you points for violating a traffic rule. And giving instead of taking will skyrocket a terrible behaviour. There’s evidence that drivers were boasting between themselves on who had the most points for breaking the law. Giving points for bad behaviour means encouraging it.

Increasing commitment with friends
I see this common mistakes in fitness apps. People think and believe that why people don’t stick with a plan or don’t finish one is because the workout is a problem. Or that you need some motivating music in the background to keep you encouraged. Or a new type of training or a library of quadrillion workouts that nobody will ever do or watch. But the problem lies in commitment.
The problem is not in the training program, reps, how often, but whether are we socially committed to something. Whenever you train with a fitness trainer or with a friend, the chances that you will go to the gym and finish a training program increases by 90%. Think about that when you try to create a movement or community around your product. And the answer may be in the fact that we should do it with a friend.

The power of a default option
As humans, we like to go with the flow of a default setting. Whether you buy a new phone and don’t change the basic settings or shop in a supermarket. Thinking is an effort (which all should practice), so when we’re recommended an option, we’ll often take the path of least resistance for our brain.
When the default size of the various types of stuff we use change, so do our actions and behaviour. For example, when supermarkets double the size of trolleys, people buy 40% more. The default portion sizes in cookery books since the 1930s have increased every decade, and so have the proportions of many people.
We tend to choose the middle option
When given a range of options from high to low people tend to go for the middle option. This is known as The Goldilocks Effect. In a study at a McDonald’s outlet, people were asked to choose between a range of different drink size options. Regardless of the size options offered, 80% of them always chose the median size option. This happens because we assume the middle option is the typical option. We will always go with the option that requires less effort to think about. And which is most bought or chosen (social proof).

Texas politics after Joe Straus
SIX days after upending Texas politics by suddenly announcing his retirement, Joe Straus sounds like a man at peace. “I feel confident it was the right decision,” says Mr Straus, who has served as House Speaker since 2009, longer than any other Republican. “I didn’t want to be one of those people who held on to an office just because he could…There are new players and they deserve to have their voice heard.” Not everyone believes his reasons for leaving are so high-minded. Mark Jones, a political scientist at Rice University, believes that Mr Straus “grew weary and tired of saving the Republican Party from itself, and not only not getting thanked for it, but getting blasted and attacked for it.”
During Mr Straus’s dozen years in office, Texas Republicans have marched further right. Mr Straus, by contrast, is a moderate. Though he worked for Ronald Reagan, Mr Straus drives a hybrid car and his wife served on the board of Planned Parenthood, which provides birth-control services (including abortions) in their hometown of San Antonio—both serious demerits in today’s Republican Party. He won repeated speakership elections with bipartisan support. As his state’s first Jewish Speaker, he weathered anti-Semitic attacks: one member of the state’s Republican executive committee urged members to support “a true, Christian conservative”. His departure illustrates the waning power of his party’s business wing, and presages a bruising intra-party fight in Texas—for which much of the South ought to start preparing.
The party’s right wing is already celebrating. Matt Rinaldi, a member of the House Freedom Caucus who represents a suburban Dallas district, called Mr Straus “a terrible Speaker…almost totalitarian. He silenced the voices of the majority in the House.” Michael Quinn Sullivan, who heads a powerful conservative advocacy group called Empower Texans, said he was “happy…maybe now some pro-taxpayer initiatives can finally move forward.”
Straus’s blue period
Conservatives blame Mr Straus for failing to pass a bill that would have made it easier for citizens to veto a property-tax increase (because Texas has no income tax, local governments rely on property and sales taxes). In this year’s legislative sessions, he successfully opposed a school-voucher programme, measures to limit state- and local-government spending, a bill telling transgender people where they can pee and a bill that would have banned organisations that also provide abortions from receiving any tax money. Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick, the state’s governor and lieutenant-governor respectively, championed these measures, and fumed at Mr Straus after the session ended. With Mr Straus gone, these measures may pass in Texas’s next legislative session in 2019, as could a version of the bathroom bill.
Yet his retirement may put them in the same awkward position. With Mr Straus wielding the gavel, they could advocate—or in the case of Mr Patrick, who heads the Senate, passharmful legislation to burnish their social-conservative credentials, knowing it would never pass the House. Indeed, rumours in Austin suggest that Mr Abbott offered precisely that assurance to business leaders on the bathroom bill: Don’t worry, Joe will never let it through. If a social conservative runs the House, they will no longer be able to play both sides; they will have to disappoint either Republican activists or business.
Whoever replaces Mr Straus will probably be more conservative, if only because the median Republican has moved rightward. But his replacement is unlikely to be a bomb-thrower. Hard-right candidates may find themselves challenged early and strongly in next year’s elections. Mr Straus has a $10m war-chest, and vows to “speak out [and] support responsible Republicans.” The business lobby looks likely to break with habit, and get involved in primary campaigns. Chris Wallace, president of the powerful Texas Association of Business (TAB), complains that this year’s radical agenda spearheaded by Mr Patrick was “among the most anti-business legislative sessions we can remember”.
While previously TAB only endorsed candidates, providing no financial support, it has realised its brand no longer carries the weight it did among Republicans. The association has revived its political-action committee to disburse funds to pro-business candidates, even if they challenge Republican incumbents. It is backing a challenger to a north Texas Republican senator who believes, among other things, that bike paths are part of a United Nations plot, that public schools provide “communist indoctrination” and that a previous opponent was controlled by Satan. Mr Wallace even left open the possibility of supporting a Democrat in the general election—a rarity for a business lobby.
Texas is so heavily Republican and redistricted that most races are won in the primaries. Republicans in Texas, and in much of the South, have become what Democrats were for most of the 20th century: the only party that matters. The biggest political fights are within, rather than between, the parties. Low primary-voter turnout gives outsize power to committed activists. Mr Straus and other moderate Republicans identify reversing that trend as their biggest challenge.
Like Bob Corker and Jeff Flake, conservative but non-Trumpist US senators, Mr Straus had found himself on the edges of a party he once fitted solidly into. He leaves elected office without regrets. “I spent my time trying to promote good ideas and reaching across the aisle. I don’t apologise for that. More people ought to try it.”

Car insurance and accident investigations?

She had enough time to slow down and change to the number 1 lane without any incident when she was suddenly rear ended on her back right bumper. That force sent her into the ceneter median aand hit her front driver side hard enough that it spun her around and faced the opposite direction (facing traffic). Long story short she has severe front and back end damage on a Brand New 2008 Civic that she is leasing. After speaking with the appraiser of the he mentioned that it is likely a totaled loss. Ahe has full coverage insurance with AAA but don't think that she has GAp insurance. How is this going to affect her lease that she just entered a month ago. Help with Car insurance cost?
ok so im 17 1/2 year old male and ive been driving since i was 15 1/2. As of right now im covered under my parents insurance with Mercury auto insurance and i pay $500 for 6 months of coverage ($1000 a year). I am currently covered for the three cars that my family owns 1996 Acura 2.5 TL (my crappy car) 2008 MBenz C300 (moms) 2011 Mazda 3 (Dads) So heres my question.. My car (the TL) is starting to break down and the cost of service is outmatching the value of the car. So ive been saving up to try to get another car and i am going to put down 40-50% of the money and my parents are gonna pay for the rest. The cost of the car is not the issue i was wondering more about my cost of insurance for the cars that i am interested in. I know that my most accurate response would be from the Insurance companies themselves, but i dont have time right now. I just wanted to know what you guys thought about how much i should pay per month for these cars. So the cars im interested in ( theres alot lol) are: 90's Toyota MR2 (preferably turbo, but i could live without it) Subaru WRX (Non-STI) Nissan 350Z Honda S2000 BMW 330i (coupe only) 00'-04' Ford Mustang GT There are others but i cant remember them right off the top of my head.. I know its gonna be WAY more expensive then what i pay now and that most of these cars are 2 door and 2 seat which will just make it worse. But im really willing to work for it and like i said i pay my own insurance bill. So how much do you think each of these cars cost for monthly insurance? And of the cars listed which would you most recommend?""

Health insurance rates. Switch or stay?
In the past 2 years my family's health care plan (which is offered through my husband's work) has gone from great to way too expensive. We pay 250 a month as a premium, then we have a 1,000 each deductible, then our copays kick in 25 for office visit, 35 for specialty, 100 emergency room visit (must be okayed by dr. first, or they don't pay anything), 100 each day in the hospital. Perscription copays are 25/30/50, and not all things are covered. Two years ago we paid 275/a month and had 20 copays for everything (except hospital stays were always 100 and perscriptions they were 5/10/20). Insurance RSX vs S2000?
Hi there, my dad is planning to buy me a car by the latest the last week of March. I asked him for an RSX simply because I like the reliability of a civic, but i feel that a civic is under powered. So I'm opting for an RSX. No, i will not be getting the type S because I know insurance rapes you for it. Well my dad said he'd rather buy me an S2000. I think it's cause he wants to drive it around so my mom doesn't have to nag at him for buying a sports car. I was wondering how the RSX BASE model will compare to the S2000? I know the Type S RSX's insurance is much higher than the S2000. I was wondering how about the Base model? My dad will be helping me with gas and insurance up until I graduate which will be in a few months. So I just want to start being smart about everything. Please help!""
Camaro Insurance cost?
I know insurance is a hard to estimate on since there are so many things that determine the price but can anyone tell me about the insurance for a 2012 camaro would cost for me? or how much extra it would cost for my situation. I have a 1998 toyota 4 runner and I am a 19 year old female. No tickets or car wrecks ever. My dad is getting me a new car and I am trying to talk him into letting me get a camaro. About how much extra would it cost yearly to go from an SUV to a sports car like a camaro?
Can auto insurance company refuse to pay claims if Company Vehicle?
I have a company vehicle for 5 years now and ok to use for personal needs. Now they have come out with new company policy. It states if in an accident on weekends or whenever it is used for personal reasons and I am in an at fault accident all damages and claims will be denied. Another words if I get in a wreck and do damages to vehicles, bodily injury or whatever while driving after work hours or weekends their insurance company will not pay any claims. It states I am responsible for all damages if using for personal use in an at fault accident. Question is can they actually do that. Can their insurance legally deny all claims due to the fact the I was using the vehicle outside of normal hours and for personal use.""

I was driving on the carpool lane today(I wasn't suppose to because carpool says 3 or more persons and it was me and my sister only), and a CHP saw me, so he pulled me and asked for my license, registration and insurance. Then he asked me why I was in the carpool lane, and I said that a car cut me off so I had to avoid coalition and so I went into the carpool lane...not sure if this was a smart answer, but anyway he gave me the ticket and said that I will receive something in the mail. Car insurance - premium increased without making a claim?
I rang my car insurance company to ask about my no claims bonus and excess as I thought there had been damage to my car. I am not taking out a claim. This will be debited from the payment details we hold on file for you within the next ten days. Can they do this? What happens if I forgot to show proof of car insurance in Minnesota?
I got pulled over in my car a year ago for an unrelated issue. But I did not have proof of insurance even though I did have insurance at the time. The officer told me to show the proof of insurance later and I will be fine. So, later I mailed a copy of my insurance to the citation place but got a letter back that I needed to show up in person. I put this aside to take care of later, but forgot about it and just remembered it a few days ago because it came up in a conversation somehow. It has been a year now and I am really scared about getting a misdemeanor. I am otherwise a good person who always pays my fines. Am I going to be arrested for this? I haven't heard from them since the letter I received a year ago which I cannot find any more, and I have also moved since then. Can California Civil Code 827 be used to enforce mandatory renters insurance?
Recently my landlord sent tenants a letter stating we have to buy renter's insurance, stating that California Civil Code 827 allows them to do this. Looking it up, I see 827 is about rent increased, not renter's insurance (and nothing about anything being mandatory). When I signed the lease with them, I was not required to pay for renter's insurance, but they claim that terms have changed and now I am obligated to pay this, and if I don't, may destroy my credit. All because of Civil Code 827. Can they actually do this? Or is this letter some kind of tactic to coerce me into signing this document and providing insurance? Thanks!""

How much will a small tooth chip cost without insurance?
I live in Southern California just so you can get an idea... Okay, last night I was watching a movie with my boyfriend and laying down in front of him. As he was going to take a drink from his glass I stretched and accidentally elbowed his drink and heard CLANK! and he got up to spit some stuff out of his mouth. The chip isn't big at all and it's on the front, left tooth on the outer corner. It's very small (almost unnoticeable if you're more than 2-3 feet away and he's smiling big) and it LOOKS as if it would be an easy fix. I have assured him that I will pay for it as he owns a barber shop and his presence is important to him and I feel very badly. What's the best health insurance for a 19 yr. old?????
So here's the thing: I just turned nineteen last week, I'm no longer going to college, I have two part-time jobs. If I were still in college I'd be under my mother's insurance but that's not the case. And it's the law in Massachusetts (where I live) for every adult to have H. Insurance. So I'm in the process of quitting one of my part-time jobs. And the other doesn't give me benefits 'cause I'm part-time or whatever. So in the mean time I'm looking online, in newspapers, everywhere like crazy to find a good job that's full-time and gives me benefits that includes H.Insurance. So my question is what would be my best bet....Blue Cross Blue Shield, Pilgrims, what?! It has to be something affordable too right? 'Cause I'm no rich bank here. Please help.""

Cyclists New Rules - Perth Western Australia
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcPmgoFEJFA
The new law allows drivers to cross unbroken line markings in the centre, both single and double white lines and painted median strips, to keep minimum permitted distance from the cyclist. This action can occur only when it’s safe to do so, providing that the driver of the motor vehicle has a clear view of oncoming traffic from the opposite direction.
The penalty for contravening this law is $400 and four demerit points.
The law for passing cyclists at a safe distance has previously existed in Western Australia. However, these amendments to the regulation clarify the minimum distance a driver of a motor vehicle is obliged to keep between their vehicle and a cyclist.
There is a different legislation in place that applies to cyclists obligations when using main roads, including but not limited to keeping the minimum distance, attaching themselves to a motor vehicle, leaving untended bicycle obstructing the traffic, using pedestrian crossings etc.
For more information on cyclists regulatory obligations, visit Road Safety Commission of Western Australia.
Infringements for cyclists vary from $50 to $100 in Western Australia
Learner drivers must be aware of these amendments as they are not immune to hefty fines
All drivers must make sure they check their blind spot before deviating if on multi-lane road
If unsure, it’s best to slow down by keeping a safe distance behind a cyclist and proceed later
Changing to the right lane to avoid deviating around cyclists riding in the left is a good option
Plan well in advance, start to overtake well before you get too close behind a cyclist
If returning to the left lane, ensure that you have clear vision of the cyclist in the mirror
Don’t drive through cyclists designated lanes unless there is an emergency
Some argue that this 1m or 1.5 m passing distance cyclists new rules will be tough to police because of the difficulty of determining the distance while passing. More cyclists lanes would make it more clear for drivers. Some even suggest that footpath and cyclist lanes should be shared.

Ignore extreme marginal frequencies – the mode calculation does not consider extreme marginal frequencies.
