tagged by @dyrwoodan to do these music questions!
your favorite album: perhaps either the courage of others by midlake or animal joy by shearwater
your favorite music genre: eclectic? i like a few specific genres very much and literally nothing else. the songwriting in symphonic metal is good, while the sound in indie rock is good too. i dig dark cabaret but don’t like most things about it. i clearly don’t care about genre very much
your favorite song: i have a few right now: hell-on by neko case, golden and green by the builders and the butchers, bandits by midlake, vessel by dry the river, white waves by shearwater, and ain’t no angel by ron pope.
most listened to artist(s): over my lifetime? definitely enya. but according to spotify stats it’s the decemberists. short term it’s aeseaes.
an album that’s important to you: aims by vienna teng, six songs by aeseaes, shepherd moons by enya, after it all by delta rae. also moonglow by avantasia but for vastly different reasons.
a song that’s important to you: tell your story walking by deb talan. don’t know any of her other songs but this one just Hits y’know? same situation with already gone by wild rivers and a burning hill by mitski. the snow leopard by shearwater and the beast by laura marling are important as well.
what makes you like a song: the songwriting, mostly. both the lyrics and the composition. i need to Understand it in some way.
your favorite instrument to hear in a song: cello maybe?
a song to dance to: never look away by vienna teng. or dance while the sky crashes down by jason webley. ok i’m bad at this
a song from your childhood: all of lisa loeb’s songs, they bring me back to driving to a certain place with my mother as a child even though i like them of their own virtue now.
a song that reminds you of love (of any kind): the meaning of it all by delta rae. if any other man told me “your anger has such beauty underneath” i would scream but when mr. hölljes says it then it’s ok. it’s so tender and i want that kind of love! also mulholland by shearwater, i know it’s one of their oldest songs so it’s not great but hmmm to be a terminally ill woman listening to the radio with my beloved (who happens to be sir shearwater) at night while driving....
a song you love lyrically: all of my favorite songs are the ones i can relate to lyrically. but here are a few of my favorite lyrics.
(the ocean - dar williams)
(scream - antje duvekot)
(dread sovereign - shearwater)
