Right so the Plastics x reader idea I had was like a different take on the aftermath of the lunch scene. Reader skips lunch to go smoke because it’s been a stressful day so far and when she hears about what happened she drags Gretchen and Karen to Regina’s house so they can talk about it because they’ve never had a fight this big and she’s not gonna take sides in this relationship and she’ll be damned if she lets this break them up. Maybe they realize all this chaos that’s happening is because of Cady. What happens then is up to you but the relationship stays together
Also can I be 💕anon?
Get It Together
Tumblr media
Description: Reader has had a stressful day and skips much for a much needed smoke break and comes back to hell breaking loose. Her girlfriends are divided and she will be damned if she lets that happen.
WARNINGS: weed consumption (reader has a penjamin, iykyk), plastics being petty, cady almost getting beat up and kicked out of the plastics, mentions of eating disorder, reader being soft for her girls.
Note: okay, so the request said "smoke break" and as a child of the lord, i do not partake in nicotine smoking, i partake in the devil's lettuce. for those that don't know what a "penjamin" is, it's basically a w**d vape. that's my method of choice. (it's not legal in texas so i go with thc-a or delta-8). pens don't emit the odor actual flower does, so reader has a pen.
Y/N Y/L/N has just about had it with today.
It started this morning, her alarm didn't go off, so she was late to first period, teachers were pissing her off, and she didn't have her morning coffee. By the time lunch time came, she was done so she decided to skip lunch in favor of a quick smoke break.
She headed to her car and sunk into the driver's seat and sighed. Her day sucked. She opened her middle console and pulled out her pen. Her trusty pen. She turned it on and pre-heated it, checking her phone for any missed messages.
She took a hit and checked her texts. Imagine her surprise when her group chat with her girlfriends was flooded with angry messages. She was shocked at the hostility between the girls. She exhaled the smoke, feeling more relaxed already.
From what Y/N got from the messages, Regina was pissed that Gretchen humiliated her in front of the whole school, Gretchen was pissed that Regina wore sweats, Karen was pissed that they were fighting.
It was a mess.
Y/N also read that Regina skipped the rest of the day and went home. She was pissed. Gretchen knew that Regina had gained a little weight and was insecure. (They had spent a whole night showing Regina just how sexy she was.)
She texted Gretchen privately and expressed her anger and disappointment. She told her that she better be ready to apologize by the end of the day or she would be punished.
She texted Karen something of the same nature before going to Regina's text thread.
Y/N 💓: Hey, baby. I heard what happened. Let me know if you need me to come to you okay? I'll drop everything.
Baby G💞: It's okay. I'm gonna workout. I have a lot of anger right now and I don't want to say anything I'll regret.
Y/N: Okay baby. I'll come over after school. I'll bring the other two to apologize. I love you.
*Baby G 💞 liked a message*
Y/N took one more hit of the pen and turned it off, locking her car and heading back into school.
She had girlfriends to take care of.
As the school bell rang, signaling the end of the day, Y/N stood near her car, arms crossed, waiting for her girlfriends. She saw them coming out of the school, looking embarrassed. Y/N looked at her girls and shook her head.
When they made it to Y/N, Gretchen tried to talk but Y/N held a hand up. "Save whatever you're about to say. We're going to Regina's and you two are apologizing." The two girls nodded and got in Y/N's car. The girl took a deep breath, got in, and drove to Regina's house.
Y/N pulled up and parked her car next to Regina's jeep. She sighed.
"Listen, I don't know what happened today, I wasn't at lunch, but you guys know that Regina has been feeling very insecure lately and the fact you basically used that against her, makes me very disappointed. We promised each other when we got in this relationship that we wouldn't do things like this to each other. Now, when we go in here, fix this. I've already had a stressful day, I do not want to add to it."
Karen and Gretchen looked shocked at the fact that their girlfriend was so stressed. They couldn't believe they didn't notice. They were so focused on the fight with Regina that they didn't notice their girl struggling a little.
They really had to fix this.
When the three walked into the house, Regina's mom greeted them before telling them that Regina was in their home gym. They headed to the room, seeing Regina running on the treadmill. Y/N tried calling her name but she had her AirPods in.
She stood in front of the blonde, slightly startling her. She smiled at her girlfriend and turned the treadmill off, slowing down before getting off, looking at Karen and Gretchen. The room was silent for a moment before apologies began spewing out of Gretchen and Karen's mouths.
Regina put a hand up to stop them for a second. "One at a time please. That was too much." The three chuckled for a second before Gretchen spoke up. "I'm so sorry Regina. I was a bitch and I shouldn't have talked to you like that. I know you've been feeling down and I shouldn't have used that against you. I'm so sorry baby."
Regina nodded at the girl, pulling her into a hug. Karen hugged Regina too. "I'm also sorry baby. I didn't mean to be mean to you. My feelings were hurt and I took my anger out on you. I'm so sorry."
Regina kissed both girls on the head. "I accept both of your apologies. I'm sorry too. I was also a bitch and said things I didn't mean. I wish I could take them back. I love you guys, and I'm sorry."
The three girls hugged as Y/N looked at her girls with hearts in her eyes. She then caught a glimpse of the box on the table next to the door. "Regina? Are those Kalteen bars?" Regina turned to Y/N and nodded. "Yeah, Cady gave me them to lose weight. I don't know why they aren't working though."
Everything clicked for Y/N. She didn't like Cady and now she knew why. "Baby, those bars make you gain weight. My cousin had to eat them when she was recovering from her eating disorder."
Regina froze. "What?" Y/N grabbed the box and the bar that was sitting on the treadmill. "These make you gain weight, baby girl. I think Cady did it on purpose."
Her girlfriends sat shocked. They couldn't believe Cady would do this. Regina began to stew with anger. Gretchen could sense the storm coming and decided to delay it. "Baby, I know you're angry, but that can be a problem for tomorrow. We have a girlfriend to take care of."
Regina perked up at that. "What?" Karen and Gretchen looked at Y/N who was trying not to blush. "No. I'm fine my loves. I'll be okay." The three automatically surrounded her in a group hug. Y/N melted into their embrace, feeling the stress of the day finally leave her body.
Regina kissed Y/N's temple. "Let's get you de-stressed baby."
The next day at lunch, Cady was shocked to see Regina sitting back at the table. As she approached, Regina smirked. "Seems like your shocked to see me Heron." Cady blushed. "No, not at all Regina." The blonde felt an evil grin spread across her face.
"Good. You're done here. You think I wasn't going to find out about your little Kalteen bar stunt?" Cady went pale. She didn't think Regina was going to figure it out. She was so close.
The blonde snapped. "Here's what's going to happen, you are no longer sitting with us. Matter of fact, you're no longer associating with us. The only thing saving you from not getting your life completely ruined is Y/N. You better thank her for saving your life. Now, leave."
Cady scurried off, almost bowling over Y/N in the process, who was bringing Regina fries. The girl almost lost her balance but regained it as she watched Cady run out of the cafeteria.
She made it back to the table and sat next to the blonde who kissed her cheek in thanks. "What was that all about, Gina?" The blonde smirked.
"Nothing. Just Cady leaving our lives for good."

Texas veterans have pledged to come out in force at the Capitol in the coming months to vouch for delta-8, the hemp derivative that provides a soothing effect similar to marijuana, as state officials argue it’s illegal in court and lawmakers consider banning it.
“If eating a delta-8 gummy helps you manage your life, helps you function, helps you avoid a pharmaceutical fog, helps keep you gainfully employed, what is the harm in that?” said Mitch Fuller, national and state legislative chairman for the Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars, adding that addictive opioids are often much more detrimental.
“This is not an overly dramatic statement: Access to hemp-derived delta-8 saves lives, period.”
Delta-8 has become so sought-after by veterans that the products are now readily available in vending machines at six VFW posts across the state, through a partnership formed a couple years ago with Austin-based hemp company Hometown Hero CBD.
The VFW is also advocating for an expansion of the state’s limited medical marijuana program to include patients with chronic pain, but Fuller said the regulated products tend to be more expensive and less convenient to buy, and veterans deserve to have a choice.
Delta-8, typically found in the form of edibles or vape cartridges, has exploded in popularity since 2019 when Texas, along with many other states, legalized hemp production following the passage of a federal law that reclassified the plant from an illegal drug to an agricultural commodity.
It rose to prominence due to a loophole in those laws: For hemp products, they set a 0.3 percent limit on the concentration of delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which induces the high associated with marijuana. However, the laws did not touch on another less common compound found in the plant, delta-8 THC, which can cause a similar feeling, especially at high dosages.
Delta-8 products grossed over $2 billion in sales in the last two years, according to a report by the Chicago-based Brightfield Group, a market research firm that studies the cannabis industry.
The Texas Department of State Health Services is engaged in an ongoing legal battle over the legality of delta-8, but in the meantime, the courts have allowed it to remain on shelves.
State Sen. Charles Perry is looking to put the issue to rest. Perry authored the bill that veterans like Fuller say they’re committed to fighting, Senate Bill 264. The Lubbock Republican has said that the Legislature never intended to legalize products that make people high.
This is not the first time Perry has attempted to curb the production of delta-8.
Perry offered up legislation in 2021 to restrict delta-8 products, telling his fellow lawmakers that chemists had figured out how to synthesize hemp to go above the 0.3 percent THC content, “making it illegal in Texas, but also making it an unregulated, possibly unsafe product in the market.”
The House rejected the measure.
Red tape stunts state program
Since 2019, lawmakers have broadened the medical marijuana program to add more than half a dozen qualifying conditions, and the number of patients enrolled has grown to 45,440. But leaders of the state’s licensed dispensaries say the proliferation of delta-8 has made a noticeable dent in their customer base.
Nico Richardson, interim CEO of Texas Original Compassionate Cultivation, one of three medical cannabis companies licensed in Texas, said the number of active patients in the program — those who have filled at least one prescription in the last six months — has dipped by from 47 percent to 38 percent over the last year, a loss of about 3,000 patients, which he attributes at least in part to the availability of delta-8.
The medical dispensaries and some consumer advocates warn that delta-8 products come with some risk, as they aren’t subject to the same rigorous testing requirements and other regulations.
“We just don’t know what the safety profile is,” Richardson said about delta-8, whereas “our medicine is very highly regulated, and a high level of scrutiny goes into testing.”

so . . . grass is illegal … let me be more specific .. delta 9 above 3% is illegal , i don’t care if it is a bagel it’s a crime , however there are many psychoactive properties in marijuana , delta 8 , delta 10 and thc a . now these are the ones i am aware of there may be more . so in compliance with the 2004 farm bill they grow what is considered hemp .. a strain that is unusually high in one of the three i list above …. now here is where the fun starts . delta 8 and 10 were the first on the shelves and the rhetoric at that time was there is a process by which we can turn the deltas from legal 8 and 10 to delta 9 but those two of the deltas get me almost as impaired as 9 … not quite but real fucking close .. but they never said that the process was lengthy but i for one assumed first chemicals then for some reason i was thinking “ pressure “ and it ends up to be much simpler than that … it’s when thc a hit the stores did the cat get let out of the bag ….. i smoked some i bought at a convenience store in the south of texas and man i got ripped , no really … ripped . so as thoughts came flooding into my brain ( oh yea , some of them ) i knew something was up . turns out that the same process used on 8 and 10 werks for thc a and that process is heat …. yea heat …..that’s all . so when you put your lighter to it or as the cherry of the joint nears it is way hot enough to turn them into …. delta 9 . so when somebody tells you , “ man that’s synthetic bull shit point back at them and say you are pathetic bull shit to think this can be made by other than the hand of god , and show them cause it may not be around for long … peace t. d.

Texas’ Hemp Fight Is High Stakes
Tumblr media
We can’t legalize marijuana by proxy, so have that legislative debate Like a lot of states, Texas is on a, let’s call it a journey, with marijuana and its legal status.
There are fewer prosecutions for the drug.
There are limited legal medical uses.
But no, recreational marijuana isn’t legal, and carrying around the drug can still get a person arrested.
But there is a workaround because what is legal here is the cannabis plant hemp, ostensibly because it has a lower concentration of the psychoactive compound delta-9 THC.
Plants with less than 0.3% delta-9 THC are hemp.
If the concentration is higher, that’s marijuana.
Both plants are of the cannabis family.
So hemp is legal because it can’t get you high, right?
If that was the idea, it isn’t passing the smoke test.
Texas Monthly senior editor Russell Gold published an investigation earlier this month titled “Texas Has Basically Legalized Marijuana. We Have the Proof.”
What Gold proves is something that many recreational drug users already know.
You can get very high from visiting a hemp shop in Texas.
Gold purchased products from eight hemp dispensaries around the state, including Dallas, Austin, Houston and San Antonio.
Of eight samples, each “came back with delta-9 THC levels in excess of legal limits. Every one was marijuana.”
This all comes as the state of Texas is in a fight with the growing hemp industry over the Texas Department of Health Services’ attempt to classify a hemp-derived psychoactive substance known as delta-8 THC as a Schedule I controlled substance.
The state filed a petition with the Texas Supreme Court last week as part of an appeal to assert its longstanding authority to name THC products as Schedule I substances, that is drugs with no applicable medical use and high likelihood of abuse.
It is incredibly important for the state Supreme Court to sort this case out, and we hope that the outcome favors the state’s position that the health commissioner has the authority to name hemp-derived THC products as Schedule I drugs.
The fact that hemp is now legal under federal and state law has created a confusing regulatory frame because hemp derivatives can be just as potent as marijuana and they are on sale in a strip mall near you.
As the state notes in its petition, “synthetically derived delta-8 present in hemp” could “create a highly psychoactive substance.”
And we know, based on Gold’s reporting, that hemp-derived delta-9 products are already, legally speaking, marijuana.
Texas needs to have a debate over legal weed.
It’s one that deserves a very serious and careful consideration based on the growing body of evidence about the negative effects of potent marijuana strains now on the market in many states.
This also must be balanced against the long problematic use of marijuana laws to send poor and minority citizens to prison for prolonged terms.
What we can’t have is a product that acts as an end-around to that debate.
Hemp, for all intents and purposes, is pot.
And the state ought to be able to say so.

Attorney of hemp shops targeted in Allen police raids speaks out
Tumblr media
Allen police on Tuesday carried out multiple search and seizure warrants on legal hemp shops in the area.
Tumblr media
San Marcos-based attorney David Sergi, who represents at least eight of the shops targeted by police, said his clients have been accused of manufacturing and distributing illegal tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, products.
Allen police confirmed the department, with the support of the Drug Enforcement Administration and Collin County Sheriff’s Office, executed search and seizure warrants at nine businesses in the city.
“The warrants were obtained and executed following an in-depth investigation into alleged illegal activities involving the sale of products containing greater than 0.3% THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis.
Products previously sold at these nine locations have tested from 7% to 78% THC,” police said in a written statement.
Authorities said they arrested five people and “confiscated products.”
Sergi said his clients were operating legally.
He said authorities destroyed products and took point-of-sale systems and records as well as some personal computers belonging to employees of some of his clients.
Allen police’s actions were an “escalation” of the tactics he has seen used in other parts of the state to intimidate businesses selling legal hemp-based products, Sergi said.
“There is a right way and a wrong way under Texas law to deal with products that may be out of compliance, and they have gone down the complete wrong path, and they will be held to account,” Sergi said.
Tumblr media
In May, multiple businesses that sell cannabinoid products legally in the city received a letter signed by Allen Police Chief Steve Dye warning them that the department had identified CBD and vape shops selling “illegal THC products.”
The letter advised businesses to ensure that they are not selling products that have illegal levels of THC.
“You are at risk of having your certificate of occupancy revoked by the City,” the letter stated.
“Additionally, since such products are classified as a penalty group 2 substance due to the THC content levels, you and your staff could face possible criminal penalties for the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.”
In July, the DEA subpoenaed many of the businesses selling legal hemp-based products to turn over records, Sergi said.
Shortly afterward, some shops created the Allen Hemp Coalition and hired Sergi to represent them.
A federal judge stopped the DEA’s subpoena later that month, he said.

In Showtime’s fresh miniseries “Waco: The Aftermath,” an inspired soundtrack moment is when David (Keean Johnson) Koresh dances during a singalong flash-mob to George Michael’s “Freedom 90” while riding inside a school bus.
Texas and Bexar County marijuana laws:
What to know for 4/20
Saturday marks one of the most well-known cultural holidays in the country: 420.
Celebrated every April 20, the holiday is a day for people to advocate for the legalization of marijuana in the United States and other countries.
The drug has been legalized in 24 states and decriminalized in seven more.
Fourteen states have legalized the medical use of cannabis.
Texas is not one of them.
The Lone Star State’s policy remains that weed is illegal.
The only exception for medical marijuana use is when doctors prescribe low-THC cannabis under the state’s Compassionate Use Program.
Is it legal to carry marijuana in Texas?
Sec. 481.121. of the Texas Health and Safety Code covers marijuana possession.
The punishment for the crime depends on the amount of marijuana a person has when arrested.
There are six varying offenses depending on the amount, starting with a Class B misdemeanor and ending with a first-degree felony.
A Class B misdemeanor is for people in possession of 2 ounces or less.
A Class A misdemeanor is when people possess 4 ounces or less but more than 2.
A state jail felony is for less than 4 pounds but more than 4 ounces.
Third-degree felony offense is for 50 pounds or less but more than 5 pounds.
A second-degree felony is 2,000 pounds or less but more than 50.
The highest offense would be a first-degree felony for possession of more than 2,000 pounds.
The punishment for that crime is up to life in prison and/or a fine up to $50,000.
Is marijuana legal in San Antonio?
While it is illegal in the state to possess marijuana, Bexar County created an initiative in partnership with the San Antonio Police Department to issue citations for specific low-level offenses rather than making an on-site arrest.
The Cite & Release initiative is “an important tool that allows non-violent, low-level offenders to complete an appropriate sanction while maintaining a job and housing.” San Antonio police can issue citations for nonviolent misdemeanor offenses like possession of marijuana, misdemeanor theft, driving with an invalid licensee and criminal mischief.
Those cited will avoid being arrested and must complete an associated diversion program.
Once the program is completed, the citation will not appear on their criminal record.
According to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, the Cite & Release initiative can reduce the burden on the local court system and jail.
It also allows officers to return to duty in “significantly less” time than it takes for an officer to make an arrest.
Has Texas decriminalized marijuana?
Texas has not decriminalized marijuana, but some cities have decriminalized it.
Those cities include Austin, Denton, Elgin, Killeen and San Marcos.
Earlier this year, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued those five cities for violating the state law.
The Texas House of Representatives passed a bill to decriminalize marijuana last year, but the bill died in the Senate.
Are CBD gummies legal in Texas?
CBD products are legal in the state of Texas if they comply with state and national laws.
CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is a chemical found in cannabis plants that don’t produce a high.
Hemp products like CBD are legal in the state.
However, they can’t be smoked.
That is illegal.
Is delta-8 or delta-9 legal in Texas?
Delta-8 and delta-9 products, which are derived from cannabis plants, are legal in Texas.
Products are allowed to have only up to a 0.3% concentration of delta-9 THC.
There is no limit on delta-8 THC.
Since there is only a very small amount of delta-8 THC found in a marijuana plant, most of the product is created in labs by extracting cannabidiols and chemically changing them to delta-8 THC.
However, some are looking to ban the two substances, including Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
Last week, he asked state senators to look into potentially banning the products ahead of next year’s legislative session.
What does 420 mean?
The origin of 420 as a marijuana-coded term is a group of California friends, who in 1971 would meet after school to smoke at 4:20 p.m. every day and then go searching for a friend’s brother’s weed patch, according to PBS.
What exactly 420 means depends on the context the saying is being used. It can refer to the unofficial holiday of April 20, smoking at 4:20 p.m. like those California friends, smoking in general or even just marijuana.
Is packing a bag of weed on a flight back to Texas unlawful? This rule may surprise you
Going through security at any airport can be an anxious chore, especially if you have weed in your carry-on.
The possession, growing, selling, distribution and use of recreational marijuana is illegal in Texas.
Medicinal marijuana is legal in Texas, but limited as to who qualifies to get it.
CBD products — a derivative of hemp, a close cousin to the outlawed weed — are plentiful in shelves in Texas gas stations or smoke shops packaged in colorful boxes with flavors like fruity pebbles, magic mango and grape ape gusher.
Like marijuana, these cannabis-based products deliver a high.
But unlike marijuana, these products are legal in Texas, thanks to laws that allowed the cultivation of hemp.
Bringing weed from a state where marijuana is legal back home to Texas may seem like a way to circumvent strict laws.
But weed is not legal in Texas.
So, will airport Transportation Security Administration agents actually search for drugs in luggage?
Here’s what we know:
Will TSA agents in airports search for marijuana in your bag?
The Transportation Security Administration are not looking for drugs when they screen fliers, but if they find marijuana or other drugs, they will refer the matter to law enforcement.
TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security to detect potential threats to aircraft and passengers.
While TSA officers are screening for weapons or other harmful items and happen across an illegal substance, it will be reported to local law enforcement, according to the TSA.
Why is it illegal to fly with marijuana?
While several states have legalized recreational marijuana use, the federal government has not.
The TSA is in charge of security at airports, while the Federal Aviation Administration governs the airspace.
Since the federal government has jurisdiction over the airspace and federal law states that recreational marijuana use is illegal, any kind of flying with weed possession is unlawful, according to the Washington Post.
Even if you were traveling between two states where recreational marijuana use is legal, it’s still illegal to fly with weed.
This applies to medicinal marijuana as well.
The only exception to flying with medicinal marijuana, is if it contains less than 0.3% of THC on a dry weight basis, according to the Washington Post.
Can Texans drive home with legal weed bought in California? How about flying it in?
Several states allow for recreational marijuana use, but Texas is not one of them.
The Lone Star State does allow for medicinal marijuana use, but only in certain instances.
People diagnosed with cancer, multiple sclerosis, post-traumatic stress disorder and more, all qualify.
In total, 24 states across the U.S. have legalized recreational marijuana and 38 states have allowed medicinal use.
But with several states only a few hours drive from Dallas-Fort Worth, what happens if someone crosses state lines with marijuana in their possession?
Here’s what to know about Texas’ marijuana laws:
WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY ABOUT MARIJUANA IN TEXAS?

The Texas Department of Public Safety operates an online registry of physicians who prescribe low-grade cannabis to people with epilepsy, cancer, autism and other conditions.
Finding a physician to prescribe low-THC can be found by searching the DPS website.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU CROSS TEXAS STATE LINES WITH POT?
Texas law is pretty clear:
It is illegal to possess recreational marijuana regardless of where it was purchased.
If you purchased marijuana while in Colorado and then traveled to Texas with the substance, you have broken the law.
It doesn’t matter if the marijuana was purchased legally, as soon as it crosses Texas state lines its considered contraband.
It’s not only a marijuana possession charge you’ll have to worry about, you could be charged with drug trafficking which is a federal crime, according to Westfall Sellers law firm.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU’RE CAUGHT WITH WEED IN A TEXAS AIRPORT?
The Transportation Security Administration are not looking for drugs when they screen fliers, but if they find marijuana or other drugs, they will refer the matter to law enforcement.
TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security to detect potential threats to aircraft and passengers.
While TSA officers are screening for weapons or other harmful items and they find an illegal substance, it will be reported to local law enforcement, according to the TSA.
CAN TEXANS LEGALLY PURCHASE POT IN OTHER STATES?
Yes, Texas residents can purchase both legal recreational and medical marijuana in other states.
Just like alcohol, anyone purchasing recreational marijuana in Colorado or New Mexico have to be at least 21 years old.
For medical marijuana in Oklahoma or Louisiana, you need a medical marijuana card.
CAN YOU CONSUME MARIJUANA AND THEN TRAVEL BACK TO TEXAS?
Yes, but only if you’re not driving and don’t have any marijuana in your possession.
Under Texas Penal Code chapter 49, driving while intoxicated is not only limited to alcohol but drugs as well.
A DWI charge is a class B misdemeanor in Texas and could carry a fine up to $2,000, up to 180 days in jail and loss of a driver license for up to a year.
P.S. Cannabidoil, or CBD, was reaching its trending peak in 2018, when Rachel Syme wrote cheekily that it was stalking her around the city “like the monster from ‘It Follows.’ ”
Despite being “deeply wary of the nouveau-wellness movement,” she finds herself, tongue aloft, being dosed by a Coloradan named Bodē.
“After ingesting it,” she writes, “I thought I felt something, a creeping sensation of serenity.
I walked over to the East River and sat on a bench facing the water for almost an hour, feeling tranquil and unruffled, as if my nerves had been soaked in chamomile tea.”
