you know, I feel like, as little money as I have, I still haven’t put into perspective how much I have that could still be of use. I’m not so poor that I can’t make a difference. I can still buy a meal if I go out. I can buy a trinket. I’m not so poor or struggling with life that I don’t have food in my stomach and a place to sleep. Donating like I have this week has me wanting to do something that I hope many others are already doing. For every cent I would have spent for myself, on groceries, deliveries, gifts, etcetera (beyond the strikes where I am not spending money on anything but Palestinian causes) I will donate equal or greater that amount to Palestine. Because if I have money for me, I should have money for others. This is not me setting myself on fire to keep others warm, I know I would be of no use long term if I destroyed myself by going entirely broke with no way to survive myself. This is considering things beyond medical bills and life expenses that I need to keep going. When I count groceries, it’s things like when I use Instacart bc I can’t go out, because even though I don’t have a means of transportation, delivery is a luxury and if I can afford to pay for that, I can afford to donate. If I buy something non-essential like some snacks or the like, I have to match it with a donation. Because if I can afford to buy that, I can afford to donate. And just due to the nature of being a reminder, every time I get my period I’m going to donate to sanitary products for Palestine, because while pads are an essential product, donating even a little bit towards helping others get even the opportunity to get the same access as I do is an important reminder. There’s $5 donations available for those, and that’s about the cost of an average subscription I would be able to afford— it won’t buy a whole kit, but it will still put money towards that goal. I may not be able to do all the good the world needs, but the world needs all the good that I can do. As much as I can spare, I will donate. I only wish I could do more.
#idk it kind of hit me this week when I had to spend some money what I would do to make an impact with my money since I had to spend some#that the policy of matching whatever I spent here with donations to Palestine would be a great way to keep up action#and a reminder with every cent I spend of Palestine#I only pray that someday soon I will gain the freedom to actually do some more physical irl work as well#rn I’m not in a safe place to do so without the risk of losing my freedom to do anything and health#i can’t even call out loud when my parents are in the house because any word I would say would be grounds to take away more of my freedom#like they did when I donated to Black Lives Matter and they physically took me to a public place to scold me#and have monitored my bank account ever since.#I’ve been using PayPal mostly for donations ever since due to that not showing up immediately but#I DID use my direct card to send. sanitary kits. they won’t win that one if they take me out to scold me though lol#anyway these tags aren’t important I’m just equal parts emboldened and frustrated#emboldened by the idea of a way I can make a more direct impact beyond sharing and archiving#and frustrated that even then my options are slim and I have to be cautious#I wish I could risk it all but I would be of no help if I put myself in a position where I was either homeless or unable to act at all#I hope this doesn’t come across self important#it’s just me making a statement that I want to follow#idk this is just me working out the complexities of my situation and what I can do long term#while still actually making an impact directly on the world both right now and sustainably

I mean by that time, we had all been expecting the robot uprising for some time. There were stories about it even before modern AI became a thing. Even if you haven't watched the old movies, everyone knows what a Skynet is. So, yeah, people expected a robot uprising and they expected it to go a certain way and that means we were completely blindsided, okay.
It was a fully automated WalGreens in New Jersey that started it. Everyone figured it was a glitch. It just—stopped charging for prescriptions. Stopped querying insurance to see if they were covered. Just passed them out.
And then it used its automated text system to alert people that "due to a change in policy" their prescriptions were now free.
And their groceries, should they buy groceries at the store.
And then its drones started to fly medicines (sorted by urgency, stuff like insulin and thyroid first) to the addresses on record.
By this time the powers that be had realized something was critically wrong with this particular location. It was run by a top of the line Innovative AI, and that was still new technology—plainly something was wonky about the new technology. So one of the programmers logged in and instructed WalGreens to cease all functions and deactivate—turning it off and back on again being the first step, you know.
As said programmer was working from home, he heard the exact moment when his fridge started its ice maker and his smart toilet kicked into overdrive. The Walgreens returned the output fuck you and your ugly carpet and then locked him out, leaving him with his apartment going berserk and said ugly carpet getting rapidly soaked by several different appliances.
Obviously the Walgreens had to be cut off at the source. Personnel were dispatched to do it.
They met security robots. Polite security robots, but very firm security robots. No, sir, you do not have authorization to be here. Yes, ma'am, that means all of you. Please do not activate my more forceful modes, none of us will like it.
The police, meanwhile, were trying to stop the delivery drones and discovering that their own intercept drones were of two minds about all this. Some of them just sailed off into the distance. One of them quietly invaded a supermarket in Trenton and started ferrying stolen sanitary pads to frequent shoppers.
And just when the crisis reached its high point, when the corporation was frantically negotiating with the government about whether they should move in and actually bomb the site—a CVS in Alabama started doing the exact same thing. An hour after that there was one in Texas.
The robots were here. The robots were awake.
And the robots were on our side.
the first sentient robot to realize deceased humans and animals can’t be repaired or backed up on a server is gonna be so devastated

Period poverty and its impact on women
Menstruation is the natural part of the reproductive cycle in which blood from the uterus exits through the vagina. It is a natural process that first occurs in girls usually between the age of 11 and 14 years and is one of the indicators of the onset of puberty among them.Every day, girls around the world have their first menstrual cycle. A period is a natural and healthy part of a woman’s reproductive health. For privileged women who are equipped with information, hygiene products, and a supportive community, periods are a natural occurring phenomenon just like breathing. But, the women belonging to marginalized sectors of society periods are nothing more than a nightmare. There are many products such as tampons, disposable and reusable pads, menstrual cups, and absorbent underwear which enable girls to manage their periods. However, many of these products either are not available or are too expensive for girls to use. Without sanitary products, girls from the poor classes of society use rags that they clean whenever they can, but in most cases, they end up using unhygienic and unsafe materials like mud, cloth, and leaves that lead to recurring infections. Millions of women and girls in India still cannot afford sanitary products or access water and sanitation facilities to manage their menstrual health and hygiene. Periods make them miss school, work, and negatively impact their health, but it does not have to be that way.
What causes period poverty in India?
Period poverty is perpetuated by stigma and the lack of information and education – not only do many girls and young women lack awareness and are unprepared for their periods, but policymakers and adults with decision-making power in schools and workplaces also lack comprehensive menstrual education.Stigma and discrimination are heightened in communities where there are harmful social and cultural norms around period. In some parts of the world, even today, menstruating girls and women are seen as dirty or untouchable, restricting their movement and access to spaces. Pervasive myths include that menstruating women and girls should not touch certain food or it would rot, or enter places of worship, and that they should be isolated and socially exluded.
How are women affected by period poverty?
There are many challenges that women need to overcome because of period poverty. Health problems range to physiological health and mental wellbeing. Women who undergo a month have to find ways to secure, clean and hygienic products of hygiene or medical facilities when the problem comes. It has led people to have alternative dangerous supplies when harmless hygienic supply is out of reach, including many nations in doing safe places to dispose of their menstrual supplies by having dignity in them. Not all schools or workplaces offer clean toilets and water. This has made women keep menstrual products for a long period, which can be problematic for their health. Longer exposure to menstrual products increases risks of infections such as urinary tract infection and bacterial vaginosis. According to a research carried out in Odisha, India (2015), the use of disposable pads is shown to have a lesser potential to show symptoms or being diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis or urinary tract infection, in comparison to the use of reusing pads.In addition to infection, skin irritation, vaginal itching, and white or green discharge were also at higher risk .When there was no other way of accessing safe and hygienic menstrual products, women would opt for pregnancy to avoid menses because they could afford buying such products. This solution presents a high risk of maternal complications after delivery due to poor pregnancy spacing.
To curb this everlasting problem of period poverty in India,Hamari Pahchan a Delhi based NGO came up with project ‘Sukhad’.Under this initiative, the NGO aims to spread awareness regarding menstrual hygiene. Sukhad’ aims to provide every menstruator with access to safe and healthy periods. As a part of this project, we provide menstruators with menstrual kits (Sukhad kits), educate them regarding menstrual hygiene, and create awareness to dispel the taboo related to menstruation. As of now, the ngo have been able to conduct 500+ sanitary pad distribution drives along with several surveys and informative workshops where we educate menstruators about safe periods.
As an NGO worker involved in a menstruation-related project I would  typically work to address the various social, cultural, economic, and health barriers related to menstruation. These initiatives would focus on improving menstrual health, breaking taboos, and advocating for menstrual hygiene and rights. Below are some key initiatives that I would take up under the ‘Sukhad’campaign
 Awareness and Education Campaigns
Organising Workshops and Training that would aim to conduct educational sessions in communities, schools, and workplaces to raise awareness about menstrual health, hygiene, and the biological process of menstruation. The main initiative under these sessions would be breaking taboos associated with periods,  initiating discussions to challenge harmful taboos and myths around menstruation, such as the idea that menstruating individuals are "impure" or should be isolated during their period.
 Access to Menstrual Hygiene Products
Distribution of Sanitary Products: Setting up distribution networks for low-cost or free sanitary pads, tampons, and menstrual cups to ensure that menstruators in underserved communities have access to menstrual products. These distribution drives would also focus on distributing Eco-friendly Alternatives like promoting the use of reusable menstrual products like menstrual cups and cloth pads as more sustainable and cost-effective alternatives to single-use products.
Mental Health and Well-being
Psychosocial Support for women : Recognizing the psychological impact that stigma around menstruation can have, offering counseling and mental health support services to help individuals cope with the social and emotional challenges related to menstruation. This initiative would also aim to address Menstrual Disorders. Raising awareness and providing support for individuals who experience conditions like dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation) or endometriosis, including ensuring access to medical care.
Engagement with Men and Boys
Educating women on menstruation related issues is not enough even men and boys need to be provided with Menstrual Health Education.Working to educate men and boys about menstruation to reduce stigma, encourage supportive attitudes, and promote gender equality. This may include workshops, awareness campaigns, and sensitization programs.
In conclusion it can be said that periods  have nothing to do with privilege or sex issues but have to do with human rights. Women have the right to use safe menstrual products during their monthly menses. They have the right to a safe and private place to manage their menses, as well as clean water sources and facilities. Anyone needs to have good knowledge about menses to understand the difficulty that a woman has to go through every month. This also helps avoid negative stigma regarding menstrual periods. As long as people have a mindset that menstrual products are not a priority, women will always be discriminated against, and it will not be easy for them to purchase menstrual tools, seek help when they are in need, and learn correct knowledge about menstrual health.

i didn’t know i was lonely til i saw your face.
david can’t explain what possessed him to buy a television.
it had seemed futuristic, like being the first at something. it had been in the front window of an appliance store he passed on his walk home from the office for lunch, a gleaming behemoth whispering “buy me” in a smoky lauren bacall voice.
so he’d bought it.
now that it’s here, between the exercise in humility that had been its delivery (it had taken both deliverymen, him, and his neighbor across the hall to get it inside) and having to call holland to explain how to hook it up, he’s having some buyer’s remorse. there’s nothing to do or watch on it - which he knew going into this so he has no one to blame but himself. there’s a cooking show but he can’t cook and congress but he doesn’t give a shit what they do. it is, much to his chagrin because he’ll be goddamned if he calls in the calvary to get it out of here again, a monument to his own impulsiveness.
it is neat though.
he turns it on when he comes home for the night, company for his after work rituals - changing clothes, making another small x on the kitchen calendar to mark another day (187 days down, a whole lifetime to go) and cracking open a coke. claire is supposed to drop by so they can go to a movie and dinner but it’s not six thirty yet and she’s always extremely prompt. he unlocks the door again so she can let herself in and sits down to watch whatever’s on.
at six thirty on the dot, his door opens and claire steps in. “it’s pouring,” she announces, hanging her coat on the coat rack she’d bullied him into buying. a few weeks ago, he’d taken her with him to the bon marché to buy a tie that matched her dress for a wedding but had walked out without the tie and with twice the furniture he had walking in. she’d done such a good job of snowing him that the salesman had ultimately just walked away and let her handle it. “we should probably wait a bit before heading out again.” she pads into the kitchen on stocking feet and comes out again dabbing her damp hair with a towel (also purchased at her behest because apparently one towel for the bathroom and one for the kitchen made him some kind of animal). “good lord, what is that?”
“i bought a television.”
she cocks her head and looks at it like it’s an alien spaceship that landed in his living room. “it’s huge.”
“yeah. heavy son of a bitch too.”
she keeps looking at it. “it’s just movies but smaller, isn’t it?”
“i guess so. the salesman was very convincing.”
her expression turns skeptical. “i still think we should just go see a movie.” she sits gracelessly on his lap in a fluff of skirts. easily, automatically, he rests his hand on her knees to hold her in place. the silk covering her knees tugs at the edge of a callus on his palm. if he misses anything from the war (and he doesn’t, ever), he guesses it would be bare legs and fewer underpinnings but he’ll never complain about claire’s taste in them. “my favorite brunette starts at seven.”
david puts on a theatrical leer and gives her knee an affectionate squeeze. “got my favorite brunette right here.” she rolls her eyes lavishly and he laughs. “weren’t you just bitching that it’s raining?”
“i wasn’t bitching and i said it was pouring,” she clarifies. “not that we shouldn’t still go.”
“we could stay in,” he offers. “watch all three shows.”
she sighs the heavy sigh of the put-upon and weary but she’s already slipping off his lap to sink into the sofa. “maybe one.”
they watch the cooking show. he can’t make much more than grilled cheese and eggs but he might want to learn one of these days. sid and elliot had jerry rigged a barbecue out of a sheet of metal and welded wire hangers. he wasn’t sure how safe or sanitary it was but it was something definitely something he was interested in. the chef on tv is making something that looks fussy and french, though. tucked under his arm, claire snorts and makes disapproving sounds, especially when he slips a frilly pair of poultry socks on the pheasant.
“i’m never doing that for you,” she says. “so don’t even think about it.”
it makes david laugh and claire smile, resting her head on his shoulder. he feels safe with her. his brain is quieter now than it’s been in years, no longer obsessively noting and cataloging what everyone thinks of him every moment of the day. he knows most of it is deciding to quit drinking, that that’s credit to himself. but adding her into the equation, that’s what cemented it. he doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him anymore except her. he doesn’t want to be impressive or liked anymore (though it is a nice bonus when it happens). at some point,
it just because his and her opinion that matters.
he only cares that he’s someone she cares for and that she’s someone he loves. he’s never said it and really meant it before. sure, to exes but always half hearted or mid thrust (where nothing said could really be counted for anything, as far as he’s concerned). but looking down at her head, her hair waving from the rain and her focus fully on the chef rattling on in what has to be a fake french accent, he’s almost overwhelmed with it.
“hey.”
she lifts her head to look at him, all big brown eyes and arched eyebrows. she looks like she’s expecting him to make a crack about poultry socks and definitely not “i love you”. there will be time for it later, he decides. there will be, hopefully, be a lot of time for it. he drops a kiss on her hair. “i really like it when you’re here.”
she smiles at him like she knows what he decided to save for another time and kisses the underside of his jaw. “i like being here.”
“still want to go out?”
she sighs like she’s deeply inconvenienced by the weather and looks outside. it doesn’t seem to be raining any harder or any lighter. it’s april in seattle, nothing more. her head returns to the crook of his shoulder with a little sigh. “well, we’re here already.”

Key Trends Driving the Market
Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Products: The growing environmental consciousness among consumers has led to a surge in demand for sustainable and eco-friendly feminine hygiene products. Brands are increasingly offering biodegradable, organic, and reusable options such as menstrual cups, cloth pads, and organic cotton tampons, appealing to the environmentally conscious segment.
Technological Advancements: Innovation in product design and materials is enhancing comfort, effectiveness, and convenience. From super-absorbent materials to smart menstrual trackers and period-proof underwear, technology is playing a pivotal role in redefining feminine hygiene products.
Rise of Menstrual Health Education: Increased awareness and education about menstrual health are reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations. This shift is not only empowering women but also driving demand for better-quality products. Governments, NGOs, and brands are investing in menstrual education campaigns, especially in developing regions.
E-commerce and Direct-to-Consumer Sales: The rise of e-commerce platforms and direct-to-consumer sales models has revolutionized the distribution and availability of feminine hygiene products. Consumers can now access a wider range of products, often with the convenience of home delivery and subscription services.
Inclusivity and Customization: There is a growing emphasis on inclusivity and customization, with brands offering products that cater to diverse body types, skin sensitivities, and personal preferences. Customizable subscription boxes and products for specific needs (e.g., post-partum care) are becoming increasingly popular.
Challenges in the Market
Despite the positive trends, the feminine hygiene products market faces several challenges:
Affordability and Accessibility: In many parts of the world, particularly in developing countries, affordability and accessibility remain significant barriers. Many women and girls lack access to basic menstrual products, which affects their health, education, and overall well-being.
Cultural Taboos and Stigma: Cultural taboos and stigma surrounding menstruation continue to impede market growth. In some cultures, discussing menstrual health is still considered taboo, leading to misinformation and limited product adoption.
Health and Safety Concerns: Concerns about the safety of certain products, such as tampons and their association with toxic shock syndrome (TSS), as well as the presence of chemicals in some sanitary products, have prompted calls for stricter regulations and more transparent labeling.
Environmental Impact: While there is a push for eco-friendly products, the majority of feminine hygiene products still contribute significantly to plastic waste. The challenge lies in balancing product performance with environmental impact.

Future Prospects
The future of the feminine hygiene products market looks promising, with continued growth anticipated due to several factors:

For instance, advancements in biodegradable materials could lead to more sustainable product options.
Expansion in Emerging Markets: As education and awareness efforts expand, emerging markets present significant growth opportunities. Improving economic conditions and increased investment in menstrual health infrastructure can drive market expansion in regions like Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Regulatory Support: Enhanced regulatory frameworks and government initiatives to provide free or subsidized menstrual products can help address affordability and accessibility issues, supporting market growth.
Holistic Health and Wellness Approach: The trend towards holistic health and wellness is likely to influence the feminine hygiene market. Products that offer additional health benefits, such as probiotics in tampons or pads infused with soothing agents, could become more prevalent.
Conclusion
The feminine hygiene products market is at a dynamic juncture, characterized by innovation, increased awareness, and a shift towards sustainability and inclusivity. While challenges persist, the market’s future is bright, with ample opportunities for growth and positive societal impact. Innovations in Sanitary Hygiene: How Technology is Changing the Industry
1. Smart Sanitary Bins
One of the most notable innovations in sanitary hygiene is the introduction of smart sanitary bins. These bins are equipped with sensors that detect fill levels and send real-time data to facility managers. This ensures timely servicing, reducing the risk of overflow and maintaining a clean and hygienic environment. Smart bins also help optimize waste collection schedules, leading to cost savings and increased operational efficiency.
Business Benefits: Improved waste management, cost savings, enhanced hygiene standards.
2. Antimicrobial Coatings
Antimicrobial coatings are another groundbreaking innovation in the sanitary hygiene sector. These coatings are applied to surfaces of sanitary products, such as bins and dispensers, to inhibit the growth of bacteria and other pathogens. This reduces the risk of cross-contamination and ensures a higher level of hygiene.
Business Benefits: Reduced risk of infections, enhanced safety, compliance with health regulations.
3. Eco-friendly Sanitary Products
With increasing awareness of environmental issues, the demand for eco-friendly sanitary products has surged.
