Mike Warren perhaps was one of the most creative kickers whether moving forward or backward. Then there was Daniel Richer of Canada, Gregory Fears and “Marvelous” Marvin McWilson of Ohio, Alton Wilkinson, Bernard Floyd, Albert Chéeks, Skipper Williams of Atlanta, William Oliver, the legendary Joseph Hayes. Michael Omalley of Boston, Mark Williams,and many others. In 1974 at the All American Open in Madison Square Garden in 1974 William Oliver a legend himself blinked and Young Bo Kong of Korea threw a hook kick which knocked out Oliver’s tooth before he could react. In the open circuit particulary PKA the lightning kicks of Bill Wallace put several opponents to sleep and explosive head kicks of Jeff Smith who fought Karriem Allah prior to the Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier Thrila in Manilla”. That bout shown around the world was most widely viewed full contact match up to that time. You might say that Jeff Smith and Karriem Allah introduced the world to full contact karate. The Mrs. Voorhees cosplay was again appreciated (even though I got called “Mrs. Myers” at one point) and the con ran smoothly. If I have one criticism, it’s that this con needs more panels- there was only one track of programming, but there are plenty of conference rooms.

LUCY & GRACE

Lucy & Ricky & Will & Grace & Fred & Ethel & Jack & Karen

[Note: This blog was written before the airing of “We Love Lucy” (S11;E16) on April 9, 2020.]

There’s no denying that the fabulous foursome of “Will & Grace” was inspired by the antics of the gang of the original fabulous four of “I Love Lucy.” 

Debra Messing has always been compared to Lucille Ball in her comedy and appearance.  

“[Lucy] changed the rules of the game for women in comedy and inspired millions of little girls who wanted to make people laugh.” ~ Debra Messing

In addition to the dynamic of the main quartet, Rosario, Karen’s plain-talking maid (the late Shelley Morrison) bears more than a passing resemblance to Lucy’s stoic housekeeper, Mrs. Porter (Verna Felton) in “Lucy Hires a Maid” (ILL S2;E23).

As far back as the October 5, 2001 issue of Entertainment Weekly, their Lucy-and-Ricky layout recreates the fun of an “I Love Lucy” episode called "The French Revue" (ILL S3;E7) in which Lucy attempts to sneak into the Tropicana disguised as a bass fiddle! 

In 2017 “Will & Grace” repeated Lucy and Viv’s shower stall stunt from “Lucy Puts In A Shower” (TLS S1;E18) in “Who’s Your Daddy?” (S9;E2) with Debra Messing and Megan Mullalley trying to keep their heads above water.

In 2020′s “Accidentally on Porpoise” (S11;E11), a tentative Grace gets into a tank and swims with dolphins just like in “Lucy at Marineland” (TLS S4;E1).

On the special “Lucy”-themed episode aired April 9, 2020, the role of Lucy will actually be played by Debra, Sean and Megan at different times. Ricky, however, will only be played by Eric. As for Fred and Ethel, we’ll see Debra, Sean and Megan rotating among them and taking turns.

Debra will play Lucy in the Vitameatavegamin scene from “Lucy Does a TV Commercial” (ILL S1;E30). 

Sean Hayes will portray Lucy in the chocolate factory scene from “Job Switching” (ILL S2;E1). 

Megan Mullally will be Lucy in the grape-stomping scene from “Lucy’s Italian Movie” (ILL S5;E23).  

Will (Eric McCormack) as Ricky will pop up in all of these memorable moments.

Lucille and Desi’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz, will be making a cameo in the episode — the first time she has taken on a role that is connected to her parents’ show. 

Arnaz will play the role of the candy factory foreman originally played by Elvia Allman.

A 'Will & Grace' Christmas: In the holiday spirit, with accents

Holiday editions of sitcoms are a venerable tradition, if rarely very funny. (The exception: Every Thanksgiving episode of The Middle. Really; check them out.) On Tuesday night, Will & Grace attempts a jolly Christmas episode and succeeds on the strength of its stars’ performances. Through a setup too strained to bother summarizing, the bulk of the half-hour finds Will (Eric McCormack), Grace (Debra Messing), Jack (Sean Hayes), and Karen (Megan Mullally) in turn-of-the-20th-century garb, portraying New York City residents under duress. Titled “A Gay Olde Christmas,” the premise features Karen heading up a large Irish immigrant family, with Jack an equally Irish tough sailor. Will sports a handlebar mustache as a hardhearted landlord; Grace is his wife, a funny girl named Fanny. (And yes, there are a couple of Barbra Streisand Funny Girl jokes.)

Like a lot of this new season of Will & Grace, the extent to which you’ll enjoy “A Gay Olde Christmas” depends on how funny you find loads of double entendres for gay sex. The writers make the volume of such jokes part of the joke — I mentally checked out after, “He’s a mustache-bumper.” No — actually, it was earlier; after, “He only travels by tunnel.” You’d think the studio audience would groan; instead, they guffaw. The whole thing is redeemed by the performances. Mullally does the best Irish accent, rolling the syllables around in her mouth with relish. (Yum?) It wouldn’t be Will & Grace if there weren’t a subplot about someone in the closet — in this case, two of them: all of Karen’s nine children (they hide in a closet so the landlord doesn’t evict them) and Will’s landlord character, a gay man in denial, who can barely contain his lust for a T-shirted Jack. It’s amusing to see Jack play against type as a surly macho type.

Toss in a joke about Oreo cookies (I assume they set this episode specifically in 1912 to coincide with the year the Oreo was introduced), a semi-timely joke about Donald Trump’s father, Fred (he would have been 7 years old in 1912), and the keep-things-moving staging of long-time W&G director James Burrows, and you’ve got a solid holiday episode of Will & Grace. I could have done without the Santa Claus is “an old white perv we once trusted” line, though. Is nothing sacred?

Will & Grace airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.

Trump rips into actress Debra Messing after the ‘Will & Grace’ star praised signs trashing the president

President Trump took a swipe at Hollywood actress Debra Messing after the “Will & Grace” star praised an Alabama church sign that read “A black vote for Trump is mental illness.”

“I have not forgotten that when it was announced that I was going to do The Apprentice, and when it then became a big hit, helping NBC’s failed lineup greatly, @DebraMessing came up to me at an Upfront & profusely thanked me, even calling me ‘Sir,’” Trump tweeted Sunday.

“How times have changed!” he added.

His comments came in response to Messing, an outspoken Trump critic, who had posted to Twitter a published story about a Baptist church that put up a sign that read “A black vote for Trump is mental illness.”

“A white vote for Trump is pure racism,” the sign also read.

“THANK YOU #Alabama,” Messing wrote along with the article published by The Hill.

Messing responded to Trump’s attacks by shifting attention to gun violence and Hurricane Dorian, which the Alabama National Guard expects to reach the state’s southern region early next week.

After a mass shooting left at least eight people dead, including the gunman, and dozens injured in Odessa, Texas, Saturday, Trump said the attack “really hasn’t changed anything” regarding background-check legislation, which has been a contentious topic among Democrats and Republicans since two mass shootings that occurred back-to-back last month.

“We are in the process of dealing with Democrats and Republicans, and there’s a big package of things that’s going to be put before them by a lot of different people I’ve been speaking to, a lot of senators, a lot of House members, Republicans, Democrats — this really hasn’t changed anything; we’re doing a package and we’ll see how it comes about,” Trump said near Marine One. “That’s irrespective of what happened yesterday in Texas.”

“Over the last five, six or seven years, no matter how strong you need the background checks, it wouldn’t have stopped any of it,” the president added.

Messing, in an indirect swipe back at Trump, retweeted a message from former Wisconsin congressional candidate David Yankovich, who wrote: “While Debra went from actress to activist, Trump went from The Apprentice to White Nationalist. The times have changed.”

Spring Semester Honor Roll Announced

 Jackson, Tenn (June 21, 2017) – The Office of Admissions and Records at Jackson State Community College released the honor roll for the Spring 2017 semester. On the honor roll, there were 307 full-time students who achieved a quality point average over 3.00. There were 381 students who made the dean’s list by achieving a quality point average of 3.50 or better.

 Honor Roll is reserved for students who are enrolled for twelve (12) or more hours of college-level work (Learning Support excluded) and who complete a semester’s work with a quality point average between 3.00 and 3.49.

Dean’s List is reserved for students who are enrolled for twelve (12) or more hours of college-level work and who complete a semester’s work with a quality point average between 3.50 and 4.00.

Will & Grace tease comeback season with epic musical trailer

The gang's back and they have a simple message in the new first-look at Will & Grace's comeback season: "Everything's as if we never said goodbye." 

The epic five-and-a-half minute trailer, launched by NBC during this week's Upfronts, plays like its own mini episode, with star Eric McCormack (Will) attempting to convince a reluctant Debra Messing (Grace) the reboot is a good idea, despite her cold feet and social media priorities.

The clincher is a backstage visit to the sitcom's iconic set, where castmates Sean Hayes (Jack) and Megan Mullally (Karen) are already positioned in character, martinis in-hand, leading to a Broadway-esque musical number.

Cue the happy tears!
