The Boneyard. Satellite photo capturing Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona. Largest aircraft storage facility in the world. Low humidity, limited rainfall, and high altitude make it the perfect place to store more than 4,000 aircraft.

The Crusader was the last American fighter designed with guns as the primary weapon and thus was dubbed the last of the gunfighters. Despite this only 4 of the Crusaders 19 aerial victories in Vietnam were with AIM-9 Sidewinders due largely to guns jamming in high G maneuvers.
The Crusader served with the US Navy & USMC until 1976 as a fighter and up until 1987 in it's photo reconnaissance RF-8 model in the US Naval Reserve. The French Navy purchased 42 of the aircraft for their 2 carriers these were the longest serving Crusaders and were retired in 1999 to be eventually replaced by the Dassault Rafale M. In 1977 the Philippine Air Force purchased 35 US Navy surplus F-8's from Davis-Monthan AFB of these, 25 were refurbished by Vought and served and 10 were used for spares these aircraft served until 1991.

airsLLide No. 12995: N90831, Lockheed L-049 Constellation, TWA Trans World Airways, Pima Air & Space Museum, March 25, 1997.
Old planes in modern times: Although this is a scan of an older slide, the same picture could be made today: Pima's beautiful TWA Connie is still part of the airliner exhibit at the museum located just South of the famous Davis Monthan AFB with its countless mothballed military aircraft.
N90831 is an early production Constellation of the original L-049 variant, built in 1946 for the USAF but then transferred to civilian use with TWA in fall 1948. She flew there until 1961 when her main gear collapsed on landing and she received structural damage to her portside wing. Yet, she was repaired by the summer of 1962 and began flying gambling tourists for various operators affiliated with casinos in the Southwest. She is part of the museum's hertiage since May 1977. She was originally displayed in Lake Havasu colors, the brand of her last casino operator, and in 1980 she was restored to her original TWA identity.

Post for March 24th 2023
this week I was able to get more photos of F-18s visiting Sky Harbor as well as dusk photos of the British Airways A350 that operates a regular service between LHR and PHX every day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are various photos I managed to capture of F-18s that were briefly staying at PHX last weekend, being able to catch them was mostly up to luck as there isn't really any way to effectively track them via adsb or flightradar24.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a USAF C-17, normally stationed at March AFB which landed at PHX on the morning of March 24th, likely stopping h ere in preparation to then head down to Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson for the upcoming Airshow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the British Airways A350-1000 earlier mentioned, specifically G-XWBL.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the American Airlines 777-200LR N788AN departing for a flight from PHX to LHR. The first photo also features a 737-800 lined up with the 777 in an attempt to demonstrate scale
Tumblr media
This is a WestJet 737-700 specifically C-GYWJ taking off from PHX Sky Harbor.
Tumblr media
This is a PrimeAir 737-8(F) operated by Sun Country Airlines on a cargo charter to PHX. Unlike the widebodies that operate under Prime Air, the 737 has a primarily blue paintjob covering the majority of the fuselage.
Tumblr media
Finally, this is a Mesa Airlines CRJ-900 reg. N914F, operating in the colors of Mesa Airlines, something that isn't as common at PHX because most flights operated by Mesa to PHX are operated through American Eagle.
