The Pocket Chain Rainbow Connection - LINKS - Updates
Tumblr media
I have finally gotten around to several updates on the Rainbow Connection. I had meant to focus on Part 4, but it made sense to update Parts 1-3 as well. Updating Part 4 took way more out of me than I thought it would so I didn't track my changes in the other parts well, sorry.
In Part 1, I mostly have some mild wording changes. The more I've played while working on the Crowley S2 Hair posts, the more sure I am that the Tied Hands untie and retie frequently, so I am more sure than ever that they retie during intermission with Nina.
In Part 2, I added more about the possible Black and White being used to trap the Green for later in Triple Part 2. I also added more details about how the switch from Blue to Purple does not happen in a specific cut because Crowley still needs to do more preparation for using two pockets in the Double.
In Part 3, I added some more info about the suspected Black and White trap because of a human wearing suspenders as a clue they work together to suspend something.
Okay, for Part 4, I updated A LOT. The big stuff is closer to the END.
-I added that I think Crowley's Pocket Frame for The Door Trick is Car Mirrors and that might be helping with how the mirror flips are managed.
-I added that I think the human with the skirt holding the orange bag could be the "FIsh" in Bullet Catch magic word references because the pattern on her skirt looks like scales. Other places I look, I can't find a strong enough visual clue for a fish. My instinct was to look at cars and a human on a scooter first, but the skirt still feels like the best option.
-I added info about the actual rainbow that exists and the potential over-the-rainbow touches allowing colors to switch as needed.
-I added more about the lacking Yellow on the red alert that is hopefully somehow still stalling the actual switch due to where certain colors and humans are.
-I added info about the human I most suspect is the "Gorilla" for the Bullet Catch reference and that I can't figure out if they contribute to this Rainbow Connection part. Also, I think every Bullet Catch magic word reference is supposed to be no later than the actual link from Crowley to Aziraphale with the Pocket Chain, intentionally ending at "dash of nutmeg". The other references are not in the exact order, but that one is last. With this particular update, I now have a guessed place for every magic word in "banana, fish, gorilla, shoelace with dash of nutmeg".
-I added that the tie strands are also shown to be still during The Door Trick, but each cut shows they moved a little off-camera.
-I added more details of my assessment on the Yellow when it is being connected to Aziraphale and the Metatron.
-I committed more to saying that Aziraphale and the Metatron are sharing the connection and hopefully more precise wording with things like "visually touching yellow behind them" instead of "touched by yellow".
-I added the following about reaching purple during The Door Catch:
In the previous iterations, there was a double purple in The Pocket Trick's Double and then a possible double red in The Pocket Trick's Single. Since a skip-to-purple and back already happened with The Door Trick, connected to The Door Catch, my guess then is that a double purple to start going back up is not required.
-I updated the wording in general to be less "we" and "us" in the wording though not completely. It's otherwise more third-person about the game or first-person with my own play.
-I updated more certainty about the two different Pocket Frames I believe are happening (Elevator Edges for Aziraphale and Doorknobs for the Metatron).
-I updated the wording about the window pane reflections. I state quite explicitly that I am lacking the words for what I sense to be a significant thing happening in that moment with the Metatron's reflection being caught where it is with Aziraphale by the end of the cut.
-The wording about the non-rainbow shades was actually decent enough to leave mostly as is, so then I mainly just added my far more detailed info below it.
That detailed info is significant enough that I will post it here too:
...
Well, it's been weeks and this bit is the best I've got, so here we go.
In the Heaven elevator with the Metatron, I do believe the following is supposed to apply:
Black blocks.
Brown borrows.
Gray shades.
White keeps.
I like "white keeps" in the rhythm better than "white holds," but that is the same general idea and why I've said I think Muriel's white helps hold things for assisting Crowley in other Threshold Tricks.
There are two huge problems I encounter with this idea, but I can't let it go. It still sticks with me.
The first one is that I can never, ever figure out what Black blocks outside the Heaven elevator. Inside the elevator, the Black is blocking out the elevator's Gray. I am as sure as I can be that's the intent.
The White is holding the Gold to keep it as Gold.
Together, that allows the Black and White to effectively trap the Gold, so that it cannot be switched to Yellow despite so much Gray outside the Black circle.
There actually is a little Gray in the White but it's not enough or inaccessible because the Metatron makes the mistake of using a zoomed touch and not showing either of the two types of thumb joints he has on the hand doing the touch. So, the dark Brown he wears can't use the Gray to qualify the Gold as Yellow.
However, if I go and look at The Pocket Trick for what Black might do, I can't figure out what it's blocking. In Triple Part 2, I think it's helping trap the Green for eventual use in The Door Trick. It's part of how I got the idea that Black and White together can act as a trap. What needs to be blocked to make the trap? If it's the switch to Blue until the Green is properly trapped, that's actually being accomplished by the timing and synchronization with the human puppet by making a pocket and stalling the switch with where that human's neck is. The Black is not blocking a color. It's not stalling. It's just there to trap the Green with the White through the method Crowley chooses.
Crowley and Aziraphale stall Blue switching to Purple for the Double, and the lighting is not setting Crowley's clothes to Black as obviously as it is in Triple Part 2. Maybe there is White helping that time but not Black.
The problems go on from there in similar ways. In Triple Part 3, that's where I got the idea because I was like "Okay, I guess the human wearing suspenders mean the Black and White suspend something". Well, they do in that part at least.
In The Door Trick, Crowley's illusionary touch is on a black bag between edges and it essentially acting as a cue for Aziraphale to Begin. So, then, it doesn't seem to actually block anything. There are three other words other words with "b" around though! Between. Bag. Begin.
So, the Black's meaning itself switches, depending on what one's imagination requires it to do or I'm just incapable of finding what is being blocked.
That imagination part is the second huge problem. So long as I can see pockets in the right places and a goal in mind for what Crowley might want to accomplish, it doesn't seem to really matter. I mean, it does because I'm supposed to find the logic. But in both Triple Part 1 and the Double, I can say that the color didn't switch until a given time because of how Crowley and whatever assistance he got managed the timing, framing, and pocketing. If non-rainbow shades happen to be there, that's fine. I still don't know what Black is blocking or White is holding a lot of the time, if anything. I don't really think Brown is necessary to borrow either. Is there someone on-screen using pockets while Crowley himself has something he wants from his play in the game? Then it's done!
So, this bit:
Black blocks.
Brown borrows.
Gray shades.
White keeps.
This bit is more like a default with a limited imagination or limited available pocket assistance.
It's not exactly that way though because Aziraphale gets someone with white and brown. What does that do? What does he need to borrow that needs a hold? The Green from the nearby humans in the preceding cut until the shadows on his coat can do the Trick?
I guess!
So, if my play improves, I'll update this part accordingly, but it just plain hasn't.
I do have guesses that the 1941 minisode actually gives clues on these shades as well.
For Black, the miracle blocker blocks the turnip from turning into an inkwell. Ink is black. Black blocks. In this case, black is blocked, but I still think that's the clue. There are other colors involved, including a white handkerchief, but, again, I still think that's the clue for the Black.
For Brown, the clue is gross—and I am not a fan of gross things, so you're really going to have to use your own imagination because I am not going to spell it out completely. The old man the zombies kill is singing about farting. They kill him and one of them ends up borrowing that guy's voice to sing some more. You figure it out from there. Okay, fine, I will give you one more hint: it is a crappy joke. Nonetheless, Brown borrows.
For Gray, the clue is much more pleasant and is found near the end of the minisode at a lovely candlelit table while Crowley and Aziraphale are drinking wine. The "shades of gray" are mentioned in conversation, including darker shades and lighter shades. Gray shades.
For White, Aziraphale waves a white handkerchief around with "prestidigitation" in his dialogue when offering to help Crowley to Mrs. H. before the trick is actually performed. With the miracles being blocked later in the minisode, the problem keeps happening while he uses the white handkerchief over the turnip. White keeps.
And that concludes this updated part about these shades.

Who do you think this is a photo of?
Tumblr media
If you said Bo Burnham, you'd be wrong (but BOY does it look like him, right?).
Tumblr media
That's actually a photo of the creator of the Muppets, Jim Henson.
Tumblr media
Wouldn't Bo be PERFECT for a biopic about the famous puppeteer? Like, looks- and height-wise, he's an amazing match (Jim was 6'3!).
Tumblr media
I can't get the idea out of my head now...what do you all think? Might be a way for Bo to achieve the O in EGOT? 🤔
Tumblr media
For the record, the Academy is pretty big on the Muppets, and it's how Flight of the Conchords' Bret McKenzie won his Oscar!
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Let me know if you have any suggestions for who could play Frank Oz, Henson's longtime creative partner.
I'm thinking David Cross back in his Arrested Development days, but he doesn't look like that anymore lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keep it here for more comedy fun! ✌🏼🐔

A brief moment of pride for me because I happened to predict a different look from this exact same collection for the MTV VMAs. I'll take the win! Taylor changed partway through the show, shedding her tartan Dior look for a party look that was easier for her to dance in but still retained a high shine award show appeal. While Taylor's look is obviously custom, the tapestry alien print and buckle detail are clear riffs from the Monse FW2024 runway. This was a fun and flirty mid-show change that reminded me of her strategy at the 2022 MTV EMAs. Though for that award show, there was a clearer throughline between both her looks as they were by the same designer - David Koma. Here, there isn't as obvious a connect between the two aesthetics. Although perhaps it's the notion of translating older notions of art into surreal, modern takes. With Dior, an ode to the secret messages Mary Queen of Scots embroidered in her clothes and with this Monse look, reimagining the antique tapestry to feature futuristic visions of alien invasion. Which feels very "Down Bad" in imagery.
For her second look of the evening, Taylor swapped out her singular pair of Lorraine Schwartz earrings (a go-to jeweler for her red carpet looks) and tapped into one of her style pillars: indie designers.
The mix of metals feels very Taylor - she often swaps between gold and silver and looks equally great in both, lucky her. Though I did most appreciate the silver tying in to the buckle detail on her Monse dress.
Of all her jewels, the piece that most caught my eye is Jade Ruzzo's ‘Tennessee’ ring. I spoke to the designer and she described the Tennessee as her “signature” collection, inspired by her late father who was a drummer. “I designed the Tennessee ring, the first piece from the collection, while in Tennessee,” she told me. “Tennessee has a heart and soul that I felt I could literally hear a beat to - it felt like it moved.” Jade translated the kinetic energy she felt in the city into a hand bezel ring with hanging gemstones that create a subtle movement - “as if [the stones] are dancing on each piece.” She added, “I wanted the movement to be subtle enough that it felt Iike soft steady music throughout the day.“ What an appropriate thing for Taylor, who calls Tennessee her home, to wear.

I think I get it now, I know why I needed to come back to Tumblr and why like this - in English. The anti-LGBT child protection law made June and July so stressful that no matter how ready I was for the fight, it drained me completely. Turns out if you open your mouth and tell your story, suddenly the media and newspapers are interested, and they are interested ALL at the same time, which left me surviving on a lot of coffee and only a few hours of sleep for a number of days. I know, I know - I should be grateful. I am. But when your story ends up on national TV and you happen to live in a country where no matter how loud you are, you simply cannot change things - it gives you nightmares after a while.
So since then I've had to deal with the fact that my young adult books can get wrapped in plastic in bookstores anytime and be placed on the 18+ shelves. Fine. In the meantime, I finished a manuscript. At the end of July, I had to say goodbye to the idea that it was going to be published. Gut punch. Fine. At this point I was like… you know what? I need a holiday. Let's go to Budapest for a long weekend to celebrate Budapest Pride. So I did just that. Amazing afternoon, shitty night. Another gut punch. Couldn't get any sleep in the hotel, escaped reality in the morning, took the first bus home.
By that time I was so down I completely forgot that Good Omens Season 2 was happening. So I watched it. And believe you me, we GO fans like to say that the ending broke us, but for me S2 - yes, the ending too - fixed me and saved me. I fell in love with David Tennant's creative energies, I watched Doctor Who and a bunch of other stuff, interviews, plays that continued to fix me. I got an idea for a new book. Started writing it in November. And now I'm back on Tumblr, because I needed my safe space and for me that's two things: 1, being an unhinged fangirl without anyone stopping me and 2, expressing myself in English. This language has been my great love since I was 12. After I became a published novelist in Hungary, I ditched online communication in English - I needed to connect with my Hungarian readers. UNTIL NOW.
The child protection law did it for me. I'm not saying I'm fed up with my home country, that'd be a stretch, I'm just… I NEED MORE. I want to reach out and connect again in English. I need to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I need to see a freaking rainbow. I need compassion. I need to feel seen. I need to know that something good is out there, that something better is coming. I need to be around peeps who understand me.
I needed to come back to Tumblr. And I love it here. Thank you, darlings.

every color of the rainbow (love is a kaleidoscope)
RATING: T
PAIRING: Emma Swan/Regina Mills (SwanQueen)
WORD COUNT: 4,817
In which it takes Storybrooke’s first-ever Pride event and continual intervention from their family and friends for Emma and Regina to finally pull their heads out of their asses and get together.
So here’s the deal…it’s not like she’s not gay. But it’s just one of those things that she’s too awkward to mention, unsure of how to even start that conversation.
It’s not like it had been a big revelation. Emma had always been attracted to women, had just always pushed those feelings away to act in the interest of self-preservation. It had just been easier to blend in and hide when she’d been pretending to be in love with men, and even easier to walk away when the time came for her to run.
But it’s been six years since she stopped running and had set up roots in Storybrooke, and after years of trying to make it work with Killian, she just couldn’t deny herself that anymore. So she’d done what any sane person would do and asked for a divorce.
Her family has been hinting for months since her divorce that maybe she’s interested in the fairer sex, but at this point, she’d rather die than admit they’re right.
It’s not that she’s scared of ruining relationships—no, Emma’s pretty sure that Snow would scream from the rooftops that she’s proud to have a gay daughter, and (though well-meaning) continually try to set her up on blind dates with women who are absolutely not her type. David and Henry have been subtly hinting for months that they love her “no matter what”. Even Killian had been accepting and amicable to divorce her, quick to reassure her with a nudge to the ribs and a cocky, “Aye lass, I’ve been to bed with a few gents in my day.”
Well—there is one relationship maybe that she’s scared of ruining.
Things with Regina have always been tense in a way that Emma can’t quite wrap her head around. There’s a lot about their relationship that Emma can’t quite wrap her head around, but Regina is family and Henry’s other mother and the closest thing that Emma’s ever had to a best friend since, well…as far back as she can remember.
They’ve just gotten to a place where the friendship feels comfortable again. It had been unbearably awkward and distant for months after Emma’s short-lived marriage to Killian, almost like Regina had put a wall up between them. But since the divorce almost a year ago, they’d finally settled back into a rhythm of Tuesday lunches in Regina’s office, Charming family game nights, and weekly movie nights with Henry.
A big part of her dilemma is that she’s interested in Regina as more than a friend. The revelation of liking Regina and her subsequent divorce were two mutually exclusive events that sort of just hit her out of nowhere, and suddenly it all made sense how they connected.
But confessing her more-than-friendly feelings for Regina was completely out of the picture, so Emma was stuck suffering in silence for all of eternity.

I know people are either following me because I used to post about Star Trek constantly or because I post about Bowie a lot, so here’s some random David Bowie and Star Trek connections I’ve been collecting for the past year or so. This is purely self-indulgent, but if you find this sort of thing interesting, here you go.
Tumblr media
This is from an unpublished interview for Zygote magazine from 1971 where he was discussing the meaning of various songs. The particular song he's talking about here is "The Supermen." In case you don't want to read the full article for context, he mentioned Star Trek to act as a comparison, he was not saying that that was the initial inspiration/meaning.
Tumblr media
This ad has song notes that Bowie wrote for the album Hunky Dory. The one of relevance is “Bewlay Brothers,” which is at the bottom of the list. It says, “Another in the series of David Bowie confessions — Star Trek in a Leather Jacket.”
You might be wondering what this means, well Bowie never really gave a consistent answer as to what this song was about. And according to Ken Scott, the producer of the album, Bowie purposefully wrote it to give a song to Americans who were reading too much into things (this was in the era of the Paul McCartney actually died and was replaced conspiracy lol). Bowie did say at different points that it was more or less about his own half-brother, but who knows if he changed his mind about that.
Although as a side note I will say that some of the lyrics sound like they could be describing Star Trek episodes lol
Tumblr media
My Life With Bowie: Spider From Mars by Woody Woodmansey (drummer for the Spiders From Mars, Bowie’s band during the Ziggy Stardust era). He’s describing the bar in The Rainbow Room, as they were rehearsing for the most elaborate of the Ziggy Stardust concerts in August of 1972.
Mick Ronson talking about the Ziggy Stardust boots, the clip is from the documentary Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story. Angie, in case people don’t know, was Bowie’s first wife.
Side note about this one though, Bowie compared his own boots to wrestler boots (see image below). But Mick’s shoes weren’t far off from the Star Trek boots.
Tumblr media
Book page from Moonage Daydream: The Life and Times of Ziggy Stardust, which was written by David Bowie and photographer Mick Rock.
Tumblr media
Bowie in Brussels in 1978 doing (his best attempt at) the Vulcan LLAP salute, photo by Gie Knaeps.
Because I’m me, I’ve been trying to figure out what song he did this during—with certainty I can say it was during the second half of the set after the intermission. That would make it so that they were either songs from Ziggy Stardust or from Station to Station.
My guess (and it really is only a guess) is that it could have been during “TVC15.” When he performed it live he’d often sing “she’s my main creature feature” and sometimes do devil horns with his fingers and whatnot. Seems like a plausible spot, anyhow. The other one is potentially the song “Ziggy Stardust,” but just based on how he usually performed that one, such as where he’d add gestures and how he tended to convey the emotions of the song, I find it more unlikely.
But I wasn’t there and these are literally just guesses. On the off chance someone was there and that they inexplicably remember this, I would love to know.
Tumblr media
Gates McFadden, before being Beverley Crusher in Star Trek: The Next Generation, was the choreographer for the film Labyrinth, where of course Bowie played Jareth the Goblin King.
And to avoid possible confusion, she was not the choreographer for "Magic Dance" at least when it came to Bowie's moves, as that was Charles Augin. She was, however, the choreographer for "As The World Falls Down" with the ballroom scene.
Tumblr media
Lyrics from one of the Tin Machine albums (Bowie’s band in the late 80s-early 90s, which Bowie wrote most of the lyrics for, minus a few songs).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Additionally Iman, who Bowie met in 1990 and married in 1992, was in Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country as Martia. She was on set filming at least in April of 1991 in LA, as you can see in this filming schedule I found on an auction website. I don’t know how long she was filming for, though.
(Side note, Bowie was in LA at least towards the end of April/beginning May as he talked about how he and Iman saw the riots that happened then. No I’m not saying he visited the set, since for one Shatner says he never met Bowie, but I still think it’s neat he was generally around when she was filming).
Tumblr media
And a little snippet from one article (the screenshot is from one of those interview compilation books).
It’s not actually that much in the grand scheme of things and more than anything just shows that Bowie was a fan of the show. It should also be remembered that Star Trek wasn’t ever really cited as a huge influence for him in terms of aesthetic, which is a rather common assumption people make, but I thought that these were fun nonetheless. I’m sure I also missed/forgot stuff, so if I come across more I'll probably add to this later on.

Trickery Post #7 - Rainbows
Tumblr media
I continued making visual representation posts for the Threshold Tricks. I started making GIF sets for the Threshold Tricks as well.
The efforts of doing these things helped me realize that for The Bigger Thresholds Trick, that I should check each visit to see if a visual marker for each "touch" is there.
Tumblr media
The pub had two lanes, yes, but there should be two of something, that is preferably not the doors, the windows, or the doorknobs. And there is. There are two posts. I had mainly ever noticed the post at the end of the panel, but there is a post at the wall, parallel to the one at the panel. I found it only once I put in a little extra effort to look.
Tumblr media
Well, then...is there a singular thing for the music shop? Yes, the dialogue even clues you into what it is: there is one sign on the window.
Things were sinking in. I kind of knew that, but I didn't know to what extent.
As mentioned in the previous post for this series, I noticed a little rainbow on a standing chandelier in the Single of The Pocket Trick. I was by then aware that every ridiculous tiny detail about The Pocket Trick was worth exploring or questioning at least a little further.
I'm a huge Rainbow Dash fan. She was my obsession before this one of David Tennant as Crowley, and through her, I grew quite fond of rainbows as well. In the back of my mind, I also remembered that post asking about the rainbows in the show. As much of a delight as it was to see that tiny rainbow in that little place during the Single, I knew enough for it to give me pause.
Did the other touches have rainbows? There was definitely one in Triple Part 2, yes. I should check the others.
I found them. The Double was a bit tricky to find because the rainbows are actually found away from Crowley when he isn't on screen, but that's presumably because he's doing this one with the thumbs inside the pockets instead of outside the pockets.
Why would rainbows show up in The Pocket Trick?
I looked up "pockets" and "rainbows" together in a Google search to find out that...there is an Elvis Presley song titled, "A Pocketful of Rainbows."
By the way, Elvis is in Good Omens, both the book and season 1 of the show.
I happily made a post showing the rainbows and remarking that it's one of the easier aspects of The Pocket Trick. In fact, I tried to draft about it in my updates for my main post on The Pocket Trick. While doing that draft, I wrote something to the effect of, "This aspect of The Pocket Trick is strangely easy compared to everything else in The Pocket Trick, but since I'm a huge Rainbow Dash fan, I'm not complaining."
...
And me saying that gave me pause yet again. I'm not complaining about something with The Pocket Trick?
Was I perhaps not complaining because...there's something more to it?
In fact...you know something...that does seem a little...too easy for something in The Pocket Trick. Why is it too easy?
What could even make rainbows more difficult to begin with?
Oh no.
No no no no no.
The game wouldn't.
...
Oh, yes it would.
...
You have got to be kidding me.
...Did the Pocket Chain...have a Rainbow Connection?
After all, the Rainbow Connection is a song from The Muppets movie.
I really lucked out on that idea. For a lot of these puzzles, I've had to do basic searches to find certain pieces because I don't get every reference. These days, I don't watch many movies or much TV, but I've seen enough to have seen The Muppet Movie and know that song.
As a reminder, or possible clarification if I glossed over it in this series, I had a long-standing theory that Crowley and Aziraphale connected their homes during Good Omens 2 causing a supernatural border to disappear or expand. They accomplished such a thing by borrowing each other's homes.
So, the word "connection" was buried somewhere in my mind for this story already with the work I had done in my play for the sideburns game.
The Pocket Trick does indeed have a Rainbow Connection, and we'll go over that later.
I didn't realize these two thoughts were related as they occurred so closely together, but I made a post that there seemed to be a mirror involved with the Tied Hands because they sometimes switch which hand they are tied to. It happened at least in the first two touches of the Triple, and I suspected maybe it happened in The Door Trick, even if you can't see the strands swinging. I vaguely suspected reflections mattered with The Pocket Trick but had long given up on figuring out why. They were just...around enough to be noticed as happening or seeing reflective surfaces. I had no idea to how join them with for why they mattered...until now.
Finally, the ideas collided. I wasn't just dealing with puns.
The word play went beyond that.
See, when I worked on my Pocket Trick post and explaining the Tied Hands, I did briefly consider that perhaps the word "cord" was better suited than "strands" to describe the tie. Were these things truly thin enough to be "strands"? Using the word "cord" instead never sat quite right with me because "strands" and "hands" rhyme. and given that I thought of The Pocket Trick itself as a rather playful thing, rhymes made more sense for what it was trying to do.
So, now another word play idea formed in my head. The tie strands might switch which hand they are tied to because of a Rainbow Connection Reflection.
But I would have to find it if possible.
I was incredibly suspicious that The Door Trick was using these mechanics, and that this imaginary mirror was at work there, so I wanted to explore this possibility further.
Tumblr media
In that second cut where I could never see if anything was special or significant about it, there is a girl near Crowley. She is yawning and wearing a light yellow jacket with gray pants. Further behind her and Crowley is a man wearing a yellow shirt. Even though her jacket is light yellow, I figured it's yellow enough that I know that's the proper color.
I did saturate the screenshot to convey the color when I brought up this idea in the works in a post.
I thought maybe the mirror flips during The Door Trick. There could also be a way to flip it back.
So, curious about this possible mechanic, that meant looking at the touches yet again for both the rainbow colors and the reflections.
There is a lot I don't remember exactly about playing such as when I pulled reflections into my searching for the Rainbow Connection. Based on what I do remember, reflections were probably put on hold because I just wanted to confirm for myself a Rainbow Connection existed at all.
...
We'll approach this idea, for now, as only looking to see that a Rainbow Connection exists because there really is only one bigger clue that supports the other numerous smaller clues.
Before I get into this stuff, I'm just going to tell you that I did figure out that Black, White, Gray, and Brown do things. I'll mention them a few times below.
Here is the first touch (Triple Part 1):
Tumblr media
That looks like Red and Orange based on the human over to the camera's right. If her orange doesn't count, maybe it's the shoes to the left of the human standing with his back to the camera.
When this touch ends, I had along ago speculated that the Tied Hands might untie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then Crowley talks to Nina. That's not a touch itself for The Pocket Trick, but it seemed a relevant intermission and possibly a way for the Tied Hands to retie if I were right on that speculation of them untying shortly before. When Crowley and Nina look over to Maggie, Maggie is wearing an orange headband. Crowley's head is visually near a bunch of yellow lights, one notably bigger than the others by the end of the interaction.
That scene looks like Orange and Yellow.
Here is the second touch (Triple Part 2):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That looks like Yellow, Green, and Blue. The yellow is the lights and some yellow thing near the humans. The green is the plants in the car. The blue is mainly a nearby car.
Black and White are there and seemingly used to help trap the Green from the plants with the findable rainbow, so that the Green can be used for The Door Trick later.
Here is the third touch (Double):
Tumblr media
Now here is where it gets more difficult.
We were reminded we left off on Blue before the pocket touch itself happened:
Tumblr media
But finding Purple is not easy.
One findable rainbow is on Mr. Arnold's shirt.
The other findable rainbow is near Mr. Arnold involving some things behind him, mostly paper.
The "purple" of that rainbow is actually more like a magenta, but I had used an eye-dropper tool in a graphics editing program that looked close enough to purple to me and more purple than the few magenta-like colors near Crowley.
Even if I had not done such things, the magenta object is on top of a gray object. Gray shades, and with that shading, that magenta would then be allowed to be Purple.
But even so...despite all of that, the purple of those rainbows are for being part of the easier, findable rainbows.
We want a Purple detached from them.
The music shop is full of not purple besides those rainbows themselves.
Tumblr media
Oh, there they are....by even more rainbows.
How did I miss those rainbows?
They are gradients shown earlier in the scene. Aziraphale covers them past a certain point, making them easy to miss.
Why do we have 4 rainbows? We are only using 2 pockets.
It's The Pocket Trick messing with us.
The rainbows are on connectors, so that we know those rainbows are for the Rainbow Connection.
I wasn't completely sure when I wrote a never-published draft saying so, but I had a good laugh at the "connectors," so rolled with it.
Sometime along the way, I figured out that Aziraphale ensures the Rainbow Connection switches to Blue by the end of the scene.
That means our Rainbow Connection went down from Red to Purple and is now starting to go up from Purple to Red.
This play is also our bigger clue that the Rainbow Connection is there. We have conveniently found a Double Purple with connectors in the Double of The Pocket Trick to direct the connection upward in a space otherwise quite lacking in Purple. The convenience is too strong to be a mere coincidence instead of a clue.
Convenient as it may be, we still had to look and think about it to get there. We had to play to find it.
Here is the fourth touch (Triple Part 3):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We are reminded or confirmed to be on Blue.
This one looks like a bunch. We've got Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red.
There is a human in Black and White wearing suspenders. Did they "suspend" something happening on screen? Perhaps something to do with the yellow in the yellow lights? Yellow lights are relevant to the door trickery in episode 6.
Here is the fifth touch (Single):
Tumblr media
That one looks like Red and Orange.
The Rainbow Connection has started to go down from Red to Purple again.
Now I've been curious about The Door Trick all along as why I'm even going through all this trouble, so it's time to take a good look.
I spent several hours one afternoon that I think was a Sunday going over it. I joked within the draft that I couldn't keep referencing what would come up in the next cut or a later scene to tell me how the Connection went because eventually, there is no next cut or scene to tell me how it ends.
Well, that process was not published, but it helped a lot because it hit me that, whatever it was that red lights were related to colors being ready for use in the Rainbow connection. The red lights were notably relevant in the framing during these parts with Aziraphale:
Tumblr media
...
Now let's look at The Door Trick.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We are clued into starting on Orange right away.
Tumblr media
I've already got my theoretical Yellow.
Aziraphale looks like he's stuck on Yellow for awhile.
With those plants in Crowley's car and those leaves near the pub...we end at Green.
Oh, that makes sense because then you can still actually see the Rainbow Connection is intact and there during The Window Trick and the ending credits.
I progressed enough in seeing this Rainbow Connection that I made a post even though I needed to sit with the curious stall of Aziraphale being on Yellow for as long as he was.
I ran through the Rainbow Connection again, making pictures, and struggling to figure out how the switches happen.
Through all of that process, I had a very limited understanding of what happened, but I had enough that I felt worth sharing.
It's honestly rather intense play even though you know how the story ends since one thing you're trying to work out is that Crowley and Aziraphale are working together separately, as they did more obviously during the ball invitations.
In that mysterious second cut with Yawning Yellow, Crowley wants to hit Yellow twice. A girl nearby swings her left arm in place of the Tied Hands to represent that such a thing happens at all.
Crowley is further helped by something resembling a color wheel of humans pocket-framing the "Life begins after coffee" sign. With this color wheel, and the girl swinging her arms, and the non-rainbow shades with their special mechanics, the Rainbow Connection goes to Purple and back up to Yellow so that Yellow can be hit twice.
Because that happened, the Rainbow Connection itself is now going back up instead of continuing down. However, the goal is to make Green next, not Orange, because we want the Rainbow Connection to end at Green so that it can be there for The Window Trick and closing credits.
That's why Aziraphale was stuck on Yellow.
You may recall that I mentioned something is off about how the Metatron plays the game. I described it my own speculation that it's like he's cheating without realizing it, or the story isn't letting him play fully, just partly.
His doorknob and pocket usage seemed or felt off.
Even watching the show the first time, that cut of his finger pressing the button raises some suspicion because, for me, it was like, "What, is he human?"
The Metatron uses pockets like Crowley does, or tries to, but he still doesn't do it quite the same. For instance, he puts the entire hand in the pockets, not concerning himself with keeping the thumb out at all.
Well, this whole Rainbow Connection bit sheds some light on the Metatron.
The Metatron inadvertently helps Aziraphale get the Rainbow Connection back on track. Aziraphale himself doesn't seem aware through his voice and manner of what is happening, but the actions he takes do otherwise look like an effective stalling tactic for the Rainbow Connection.
After the Metatron says, "We call it the Second Coming," he makes three mistakes that I hope I have right based on the word play mechanics and my own imagination ability. They go Deflection, Redirection, and Disconnection. Rule of Three!
That means we'll get the Rainbow Connection to go back up, as desired.
Aziraphale senses something. He looks over at Crowley.
Many fans, from my own observations, have taken note of this cut. They have asked what this look could mean. Some have suggested, "Trust me."
Now it took me awhile to get it, just by watching fans ask it again on my Tumblr timeline and my own re-examination of things on screen, but I got it not long after I figured out The Door Catch exists.
I've played Earthly Objects long enough to tell you that, "Trust me," is not the answer. I'm reasonably sure of myself on it.
Never do the same trick twice. This rule idea is especially true to the Threshold Tricks.
I know the Rule of Three.
I know where that cut is between the cuts of Crowley and the incoming three cuts of Aziraphale.
Tumblr media
Word play comes into play and so that cut is Ground Zero because it has zero ground in it.
Because we are at Ground Zero, the look means, "Here goes nothing."
It's a hidden message from the game.
We've already uncovered a hidden message in the game that goes, "The tie strands are connected to the hands because they are Crowley's Tied Hands."
With a little further thought after some days or maybe even a couple of weeks, I realized another hidden message within the scene of The Door Catch. That message is, "The Metatron makes mistakes."
Tumblr media
The Metatron does not get whatever hinge he needs done when he presses that button because it lacks the left thumb CMC joint in the framing.
His mistake is also a clue about those non-rainbow shades that must be combined with a lot of other clues the game gave us in The Pocket Trick. The shades have a findable poem that's a quatrain. The poem goes:
Black blocks.
Brown borrows.
Gray shades.
White keeps.
Hopefully the "a" in "gray" is acceptable over the "e," but if it does matter that I made the difference, just know I'm doing it because I admit freely I speak and read U.S. English as my native language.
The Gray of the elevator could shade that Gold to Yellow with better play, but that's not happening. The Black is blocking out the Gray of the elevator. The White is holding the Gold as Gold, so it's not shifting over to Yellow. The Metatron cannot use his dark Brown to borrow anything to make use of that Gray because of that missed hinge touch.
I'm not sure I have the message exactly right, but my translation of it goes, "The Rainbow Connection ends at Green thanks to a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow."
I had that quatrain in mind long before I admitted it because it's an incredibly weird thing to even be able to find. I couldn't say what these colors did every time I saw them. Black may block, but I don't always know what it's blocking at times when I feel it's there and on. So, how can I say that's what they do? I have some guesses in a few places but not all. I still couldn't let it go, and it still feels like something I know, even if I can't fully explain every move or mechanic in the process.
...
Alright, let's go back to the first touch of The Pocket Trick because it's the one with the most obvious Rainbow Connection Reflection.
A lot of the following is based on my already existing post that explains what the Tied Hands are, but I am trying to slim things down for this part. The format provided is different. The images below are significantly brightened to show things. The GIFs are slowed down too.
As a review, here is the cut that introduces the Tied Hands in Triple Part 1 of The Pocket Trick:
Tumblr media
There is a human to the camera's right and behind Crowley carrying a red purse. She is wearing red and orange. We are either starting on Red for the Rainbow Connection or we will be starting once Red is...ready.
Take a look at this particular video frame:
Tumblr media
The left thumb joint has a blurred vertex touch, a hinge, with the jacket. Given what eventually happens, that makes this blur a pass that's going to let us see the Tied Hands better than we usually do.
It looks like we have another such vertex touch between the left jacket sleeve and the back of the jacket. They help create a small pocket with the watch involved. More clarity will happen with the left thumb joint later. The watch is on red alert.
Generally speaking, this video frame is trying to communicate to an audience player that edges are thresholds. Another edge of significance in this video frame is the front of the jacket near the garbage bin.
The watch being on red alert is telling us that Red for the Rainbow Connection is ready.
The touch proceeds further.
Now let's take a look at this part here:
Tumblr media
This part is so important, let's take the exact shot I want others to notice:
Tumblr media
There is a pocket between Crowley's left hand, the watch, the left jacket sleeve, and the left jacket side-to-back area. It's a lot like our previous vertex touch but not quite. This pocket is special because the left jacket sleeve is more evident to be over the edge of that back area of the jacket. Their connection is not direct edge-to-edge, or close enough anyway, like the earlier version. One edge extends over the other. Other parts of the apparel were more evenly lined up with edges before too, but here, they are not trying so hard.
Over edges? Why does this framing want us to notice parts are over edges as we study the Rainbow Connection mechanics of The Pocket Trick?
I think it's because there is a song titled "Over the Rainbow" in the movie, The Wizard of Oz.
This video frame gives us an "over-the-rainbow" touch.
Crowley's reflection can now be found in the window pane to his right. Due to the lighting, angles, movement, whatever, a bit of red is touching the Crowley reflection.
Now we have our Rainbow Connection Reflection.
With our Rainbow Connection Reflection, the imaginary mirror of the Tied Hands is flipped.
Because it flipped, the Tied Hands switch which hand they are tied to.
I already covered The Door Trick and The Door Catch, but that door trickery is why I was so very interested in this mechanic. It's such a curious thing to even do at all.
Other flips do happen in the other touches, but they are harder to play.
I wanted to cover this over-edges aspect because that potential reference lets us meet a Rule of Three. We now have 3 rainbow songs related to The Pocket Trick.
Those songs are "A Pocketful of Rainbows" by Elvis Presley, "The Rainbow Connection" from The Muppet Movie, and "Over the Rainbow" from the movie, The Wizard of Oz.
Something all three of these songs have in common is that they are U.S. based songs found in movies.
We're stopping here.
Up next, we're going to fail spectacularly at taking a break from the pockets as we try to look at Crowley's character relationship with Muriel.
(For reference: Trickery)

Decided to do @queerliblib s summer bingo cause I like reading and ticking boxes.
The rainbow books are spaces I already have a book in my immediate to-read pile, so I can track what I will fill in for sure.
List of books I've read below the cut
Format switch: The Rainbow Parade by Emily Neilson, read in a read along formet.
This one was tricky cause I cannot read ebooks, no matter how much I try. So, I figured I'd go for something shorter and saw that they have read along books and decided to go with that. It's a cute little story that my conservative brother would not want to read to his child and that's a massive win.
Stonewall Award winner: The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta
This has been sitting on my shelf for months and I read it in one sitting this morning. I really liked it, but it's another tick in the 'most young adult stories don't do it for me anymore' colomn, which if very long if i'm honest. Do recomend.
Memoir: All Boys Aren't Blue by George M. Johnson
A memoir about growing up black and gay. The voice was really good, and enhanced because it was read by the author.
Book with a Protagonist Older than 40: How Y'all Doing by Leslie Jordan
Focus of a memoir is the protagonist, right? Imma say it is. I've never been into instagram and such, so I didn't see Leslie Jordan's contant beyond what filtered to tumblr, but knew enough about him to be interested. A genuinly funny read, and he narrated it so well in the audio book.
Queer non-fiction: The Women's House of Detention: A Queer History of a Forgotten Prison by Hugh Ryan
An interesting and difficult read. Really highlights the cruelty of the criminal legal system and how pivitol it is to the queer community in New York.
Indigenous Author: This Town Sleeps by Dennis E. Staples
An interesting quick read. The audio book made switching POVs confusing at times, but not enough to really pull me out of the story. I adore the dog's name and the reason behind it.
Genre fiction: The Route of Ice and Salt by José Luis Zárate and translated by David Bowles
A retelling of the journey of The Demeter from Dracula, from the pov of the gay captain. Very literary and very good.
Comic, manga, or graphic novel: Anne: An Adpatation of Anne of Green Gables (Sort Of) by Kathleen Gros
I started another book for this one, but couldn't get into it, then I saw this one while browsing the library on libby and was hooked. A quick, easy read and very sweet. I love this version of Anne and the ways the original book events are adapted.
Set in the past: The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow
Such a good read. I love the small bits of world building done through the differences in tales and rhymes we have today. Each character is very distinct and I would die for James Juniper.
Coming of age: The Western Alienation Merit Badge by Nancy Jo Cullen
tbh, I had no real idea what to expect with this one, probably more connections to merit badges. Really got into it and very emotional at points.
Main character doesn't share an identity with you: Melissa by Alex Gino
I've heard of this one, obviously, but never read it. It's very cute and I really enjoyed it.
Queer Picture book: Let Me Out: a pop-out about coming out! by Omis Razavi
Got this one through their crowdfunding years ago. It's great
Do a subject heading search to find a book: The Trees Grew Because I Bled There: Collected Stories by Eric LaRocca
I searched horror and found this one. Some of the stories are better than others, and the writing style made it a little hard for me to get into some of them, but very good overall.

Poor Things (2023) review
Tumblr media
Yorgos Lanthimos may be the new Quentin Tarantino when it comes to feet fetishes in cinema, as there are so many Emma Stone feet shots in this movie… so many. Also, her little toe is oddly square shaped, just saying.
Plot: An incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter's protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
At first I was very much a fan of director Yorgos Lanthimos’ directing style, with him managing to take any event or piece of dialogue and turn it into deadpan awkwardness. As such, his indie films The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer both are great examples of entertaining postmodern cinema with each one featuring a dystopian visual style. That being said, his last film The Favourite, even though it was a hit with the critics and the award ceremonies, for me did not hit the same. It felt much more reserved compared to the director’s previous efforts, and his usual weird style just came off crude and the humour for me personally did not land. Nicholas Hoult was a hoot though, but when isn’t he! Anyway, going into Poor Things I was hoping for more of the original magic which I’ve seen from Lanthimos in his earlier works, and the trailers with their vibrant visuals really sparked my interest, so I went in with high hopes.
So in terms of the visuals, Poor Things may just feature some of the best and most imaginative sets of any movie of 2023. Starting off the first part in black-and-white, very reminiscent of the old Universal monster flicks, but then 30 minutes in transforming into a technicolour dream world with colours popping Wizard of Oz-style, with every shot reminiscent of a vivid painting, with the use of the fisheye lends to create a somewhat watercolour effect to the backgrounds. The movie looks and feels artificial, which connected well with the narrative of this Frankenstein’s monster type woman learning and discovering everything with a brain that’s both her’s and not. Oh, and she happens to also wear rainbow glasses, so I can only imagine how much more stranger the world must look through her eyes.
The film’s biggest asset is its acting. Emma Stone is phenomenal as she has to play a grown woman with the brain of a baby, and then show us that woman growing into her brain (or maybe show us the baby growing into the woman?) over the course of the film. She really does throw herself into the role and it’s the type of role that awards shows will delightfully seek their teeth into. Willem Dafoe as the maker of Bella felt like a character that walked straight off a David Lynch fantasy, from the prosthetic make-up to his performance as the mad scientist that falls for his creation. But the real stand out here is Mark Ruffalo who simply is on another level. Playing the slimy player who only sees women through the male gaze, and attempts to take advantage of Bella’s naive outlook life for his own physical pleasure, it’s the kind of character you are supposed to despise, but gosh did I love everything Ruffalo was doing in this film. He was truly hilarious with every piece of his line delivery successfully painting the pathetic nature of his foolish character. Most critics will be showering Emma Stone with praise and deservingly so, however I believe Mark Ruffalo should not be overlooked and may be the actual MVP of the whole movie.
Narrative wise this is a fun feminist spin on the Frankenstein formula, that is a loud and proud shout to female autonomy for those who may have found Barbie a bit too cheesy and perky, yet I do find the movie to be overly cynical against its own good. It's like Lanthimos approached the film in the same way the mad scientist played by Willem Dafoe in the movie approaches his medical experiments -- with a cool eye and a lot of curiosity, but very little heart. And for the bubbly and big eyed Bella that is full of life and excitement, the film she’s in is the polar opposite. Look, I admired the film for what it was, but the romantic within me wanted a bit more of the, as the French would say, ‘amour’. Also there was just too much sex for my viewing pleasure. Again, I don’t mind a lil’ hanky-panky in my films, but when I’m sat in a dark theatre surrounded by many perverts with 90% of what I’m watching being humans doing the thrusting and the throbbing, it is a tad uncomfortable. You can also imagine what my fiancée thought when I told her afterward about the movie’s heavily erotic side.
Poor Things is very much a film that screams the director’s unique and distinct style and I truly respect it for that, however I personally feel like its not my cup of tea as it was a bit too cold for my liking. There wasn’t really a character I could connect or sympathise with, and even though Mark Ruffalo is funny as hell, his character is a piece of scum and a half. Again, kudos to the whole production team and cast for a great niche slice of art house cinema, but it’s too creepy for my liking.
Overall score: 7/10

Chapter 5 of my coming-of-age Johnny Silverhand backstory fic, the Boy Who Kept Me Sane, is now up!
Life had taken turns for Robbie in the following months. Turns for the better, turns for the worse, and turns in the literal sense toward a decrepit city that the Aldecaldos (the name that his new family was known by, and a name that he had a mite of trouble pronouncing) were hired to help rebuild– some place called the Pitt. Milt told him that it used to be called Pittsburgh before some tragic nuclear meltdown ravished the city, reducing it to nothing but piles of radioactive cinder and ash. Before they were in the Pitt, however, they were in Tucson, Arizona -- and Robbie learned several things when he was in Tucson. The first– Barrett’s last name was Nauman. This wasn’t too exciting of a fact, but Robbie was at that age where he was curious about everything. Among the things that Robbie had learned were the alphabet, numbers, the colors of the rainbow, the names of places, the names of people; and more important trivia such as assorted shark facts (thank you, Barrett), the most gruesome deaths in history (thanks again, Barrett), and the names of various rockerboys and rockergirls. That last bit was thanks in part to Maria, who loved music– she was so similar to Mama that he grew to love her almost instantly. After she was done with her chores for the day, she would hold Barrett and Robbie in her lap and listen to the radio with them as the sun set and the horizon grew dark, telling them all about the artists who sang the songs. Robbie would listen with rapt attention before scampering off to ramble to some poor, unsuspecting Aldecaldos about Ritchie Valens or David Bowie or whichever of Maria’s favorite artists she’d told him about that day. The second thing that Robbie learned when he was in Tucson was that Barrett knew lots of people. Lots and lots of people. For one, he had a brother. A 10-year-old big brother who was named Daniel, liked the color green, and had an obsessive fascination with the Net– something he described as “this crazy, massive computer network thing that these people called netrunners can travel through without even leaving their houses.” One day, Robbie witnessed Daniel being scolded by Milt for sneaking a pair of rust-crusted netrunning virtuality goggles out of an abandoned gang haunt that the Aldecaldos were scavenging in. Milt let him keep the goggles after much persuasion on Daniel’s part, but he was instructed to never pick up foreign tech items from abandoned places without asking first again– especially ones that connected directly to the brain (although Daniel knew ‘damn well how to spot infected tech,’ he ranted to Robbie one night).

If you say so, weird since most of the feminists are supporting hamass or at least the major feminist groups are incredibly Antisemitic.
Tumblr media
If you don't know who farrakhan is you might look him up, he hates Jews more than you do and has the balls to say it out loud instead of hiding behind anon.
I'm sure you already know who linda sarsour is, but if not look her up too, she's a peach in the feminist circles.
So ya, feminism stands with hamass it would seem.
same with pride marches.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can't have a rainbow Star of David flag at pride because the Anti-Zionists in charge totally don't hate Jewish people just Israel so they banned a flag that just says I'm Jewish and lgbt because it looks like the flag of Israel if you take all the colours away but white and blue.
Tumblr media
You obviously have a internet connection, you might want to look up the definition of "leftist" because this is just beyond stupid of you to say.
Amazing to see misogynists and feminists and lgbtphobes and pro lgbt activists all meeting up at the top of the horseshoe to hate on Jewish people.
You can pick which version of the wedding photo you like best
