Former Virginia Tech student David Eisenhauer (pictured left) has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for murdering 13 year-old Nicole Lovell (pictured right) in January 2016.
As previously posted, David lured Nicole out of her family’s Blacksburg, Virginia home during the early morning hours of January 27th, 2016, after promising to take her on a “secret date.” The two had met on the messaging app Kik months earlier, and had met in person on at least one occasion prior to the 27th as well. However, on this occasion, David had no intentions of taking Nicole on a date. Instead, he stabbed her to death and left her on the side of Craig Creek Road. Later, he enlisted his accomplice and fellow student Natalie Keepers to help him clean up the crime scene and dispose of Nicole’s body.
David initially denied having any sort of relationship with Nicole. He told investigators that he was initially unaware that Nicole was only 13 years-old, and that he did not want anything to do with her once he did learn her true age. However, once Natalie was implicated in the crime as well, she told investigators a different story. According to Natalie, David apparently told her that he met Nicole at a party and thought she was 18. He later found out that she was only 13, after having sex with her. David said that Nicole was threatening to expose their relationship, and as a result, David and Natalie came up with a plan for David to kill Nicole in order to keep the relationship a secret.
Natalie was expected to testify at David’s trial in February 2018, however just a few days after it began, David switched his plea to no contest and ended the trial. A no contest plea meant that David admitted that there is enough evidence to convict him, but he has not confessed to committing the crime. Still, at his sentencing months later, David offered an apology to the Lovell family: “I am sorry for the pain my actions have caused for Nicole Lovell and her family.”
Natalie went to trial for being an accessory to murder in 2018. She was ultimately found guilty. A detailed post about her court proceedings can be found here.

On the morning of January 27, 2016, Tammy Weeks walked into her 13-year-old daughter Nicole Lovell’s bedroom to find that she was missing. A frantic search ensued for the young girl, who needed daily medication for her transplanted liver, but just 3 days later Nicole was found dead. Dumped across the border in North Carolina, she had been stabbed 14 times in the throat and chest.
Unbeknownst to Tammy, Nicole had been seeing an 18-year-old man named David Eisenhauer. The two had met via KIK and had been communicating online over the course of several months. Prior to Nicole’s disappearance, they had met once in person. Fearing that Nicole would expose their relationship and worried he may have gotten her pregnant, Eisenhauer employed the help of his friend, Natalie Keepers, to get Nicole out of the picture. After arranging a ‘secret date’ with the young girl, who snuck out of her room at night to meet him, Eisenhauer took the Nicole to the woods and killed her.
During their extensive preparation, Eisenhauer and Keepers left a wealth of evidence behind. Investigations of the pairs’ computers revealed searches for the terms “How long does it take to burn a body?” and “What is used to ID a body?” They were also caught by surveillance cameras buying a shovel from Walmart, and had conversations about swapping Lovell’s medication for cyanide pills. Finally, Nicole’s blood was found in the trunk of Eisenhauer’s car, along with cleaning wipes and the shovel, and his DNA was found underneath Lovell’s fingernails.
After first denying any involvement, Eisenhauer entered a no contest plea, meaning that he acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict him but does not admit he committed the murder. On June 27, 2018, Eisenhauer was sentenced to 50 years in prison. Keepers is due to face trial this September.

David Edmond Eisenhauer, Virginia inmate 1800960, born 1997, incarceration intake at age 21, scheduled for release 08/22/2059
Murder
Former Virginia Tech student convicted of fatally stabbing a 13-year-old girl said he was sorry before he was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
David Eisenhauer was an 18-year-old freshman studying engineering when he developed a relationship with Nicole Lovell, a seventh-grader in Blacksburg.
The Prosecutor said Eisenhauer and Lovell communicated online for months before meeting at least once in person. The Prosecutor further said they met again in January 2016, when Eisenhauer lured Lovell out of her family's apartment with the promise of a "secret date," then killed her because he was afraid she would expose their relationship.
Before the sentence was handed down by the Judge, Eisenhauer, a Wilde Lake High School graduate, apologized. "I am sorry for the pain my actions have caused for Nicole Lovell and her family," he said.
Prosecutors asked for a life sentence, while Eisenhauer's lawyers asked for something within sentencing guidelines that call for a prison term of between about 24 years and nearly 40 years.
Eisenhauer pleaded no contest to first-degree murder, abduction and concealing a body.
Lovell's body was found just over the state line in North Carolina. A medical examiner testified that she had 14 stab wounds, including a lethal wound to her neck.
Before Eisenhauer's sentence was imposed, Lovell's parents described how their daughter's killing has affected them.
Her father, David Lovell, said he's been diagnosed with severe depression and post-traumatic stress disorder since his daughter's death.
"There is nothing that will happen in this courtroom that will fix it," he said.
Lovell's mother, Tami Weeks-Dowdy, said she sees a grief counselor and still has trouble sleeping. She said she celebrated what would have been her daughter's 16th birthday last month at her gravesite.
Eisenhauer's lawyers called two teachers and a former classmate of his from Yakima, Wash., where he lived before moving with his family to Columbia, Virginia. Both teachers from the Riverside Christian School said he was a smart and kind student, but appeared to have trouble following social cues.
Kathryn Anne Stoothoff, who taught Eisenhauer in a 10th-grade English class and a Bible class, said he was bright, but "needed clear rules to be successful." She said Eisenhauer would "follow someone off a cliff if they convinced him it was the right thing to do."

Don't you just love a nice autumn walk? The crisp air, the colorful leaves and the creak of the boardwalk under your feet. Located within parts of four New England states: New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut, Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge is the only refuge of its kind to encompass an entire watershed and a great place for the ideal fall stroll. The refuge includes a wide variety of unique habitats such as northern forest valuable as nesting habitat for birds, rivers and streams teeming with fish, and fresh, brackish and salt marshes where you can spot anything from moose to turtles. Patented nanostructure for solar cells: Rough optics, smooth surface
Thin-film solar cells made of crystalline silicon are inexpensive and achieve efficiencies of around 14 percent. However, they could do even better if their shiny surfaces reflected less light. A team led by Prof. Christiane Becker from the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) has now patented a sophisticated new solution to this problem
"It is not enough simply to bring more light into the cell," says Becker. Such surface structures can even ultimately reduce the efficiency by impairing the electronic properties of the material.
The idea that David Eisenhauer worked out as part of his doctorate in Becker's team sounds quite simple, but it requires a completely new approach: to produce a structure that behaves "optically rough" and scatters the light, but at the same time provides a "smooth" surface on which the silicon layer (the most important layer of the solar cell) can grow with virtually no defects.

Nicole Lovell (13) disappeared from her family’s home in Blacksburg, Virginia after climbing out of her bedroom window during the early morning hours of January 27th, 2016. Prior to that morning, Nicole told her friends that she was planning to sneak out to meet up with her new 18-year-old boyfriend named David. This David was later identified as David Eisenhauer, an 18-year-old freshman at Virginia Tech. Hours after Nicole climbed out of her bedroom window, her parents found her bedroom empty, her window open, and a drawer pushed up to her windowsill that seemingly helped her climb outside. The worried parents immediately reported their daughter missing. Investigators then began interviewing Nicole’s friends and neighbors. A few of those friends mentioned Nicole’s plan to meet up with an older boy named David. Three days later, David Eisenhauer was arrested.
David admitted to meeting Nicole online and to driving to her home during the early morning hours of January 27th, so they could meet up in person. He said that he believed Nicole was 16 or 17 years old, but when he saw her in person, he realized she was much younger and decided to leave. Investigators did not buy this story and charged David with Nicole’s abduction. Shortly thereafter, Nicole’s body was found on the side of the road near the Virginia/North Carolina border. She had been stabbed to death. David was then charged with murder in addition to abduction.
In a twist to an already tragic case, David later told investigators that he did not act alone. Fellow Virginia Tech freshman Natalie Keepers allegedly helped David in both the planning of Nicole’s murder and the clean-up of Nicole’s body. Natalie was subsequently arrested and charged with being an accessory to a felony before the fact and with concealing a body.
Many people have questioned why two young people with seemingly bright futures would commit such heinous crimes. It seemed likely that David's motive was to cover up his inappropriate relationship with Nicole - but he denied that the relationship ever actually came to fruition. Additionally, the question still remained: How did Natalie factor into all of this? The investigation eventually revealed the answers to some remaining questions - and what was found chilled the community to the bone.

A Slow Coming Justice (Dean x Hayley x Sam)
Pairing: Brother!Dean x Sister!Hayley (OC) x Brother!Sam
Word Count: 1142
Warnings: Talk about Murder and Pregnancy
It had been over two years since Hayley had last seen her. Last heard her voice. Hayley was heartbroken when she heard the news. She was to be consoled by nobody, not even her brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester. Nicole and Hayley were best friends. Hayley couldn't believe when she heard Nicole went missing, let alone when police found her body. Hayley knew about Nicole's not-so-legal relationship and although, Hayley warned Nicole against it, she was young and naive. Nicole saw David anyways. She and David met online, the two had only met in person once before David brutally murdered her.
-
'I'm serious, Nicole.' Hayley texted as quick as she could.
'He won't hurt me, Hayley. Everything's going to be ok!' Nicole texted back.
Hayley wished Nicole's word would be enough, but she was seemingly unsatisfied with her best friend's statement. Nicole's plan was to sneak out the window and met up with her secret boyfriend for their secret special date.
'Ok, well text me when you get home. I want to know everything.'
Although Hayley had great concerns, she didn't say anything because she believed Nicole had it under control. The night had passed and she didn't receive a text from Nicole. Hayley was worried, but nonetheless, she thought that maybe Nicole was tired after her date and forgot to text. A few days had passed. Hayley left several phone calls and probably hundreds of text messages on Nicole's phone. Still no answer.
"Hayley!" Dean called out. "Someone here at the door for you."
Hayley hopped up off the couch to answer her eldest brother's call.
"You mind telling me why there's two cops at our door asking for you?" Dean questioned.
Hayley shrugged, "I dunno."
Then came the news- and the waterworks. Sam and Dean both held their baby sister as she cried, trying to tell the police officers what she remembered from the last time she had seen Nicole alive. It was gut wrenching.
-
The trial was rough. Hayley couldn't attend any of the trials until she testified, but once she testified, she watched everyone. She couldn't help it! She wanted to see the man who murdered her best friend be sent to jail. The murder happened in January of 2016. Nicole had been missing for three days before her body, which was stabbed fourteen times, was found about 80 miles from her hometown.
"I am sorry for the pain my actions have caused for Nicole Lovell and her family." David said in court.
Hayley knew he wasn't sorry. He killed her. Stabbed her fourteen times because he feared she would out their illegal relationship and feared that she was pregnant. At just thirteen-years-old, Nicole shouldn't have gone out with an eighteen-year-old. Hayley didn't want to blame her, she was dead, after all. Hayley knew it wasn't Nicole's fault. Hayley knew she was just a young, curious and naive girl, who just wanted to explore the world. Nobody saw it coming. David was a star athlete at the local college. He never drank and hardly partied. But nobody would ever look at him the same after he killed Nicole and had one of his friends, Natalie help him dispose of the body. Hayley was drawn out of her thoughts when the judge banged his gavel against the desk.
"I will have order in my court!" Judge Turk exclaimed. "Jury, how do you find young David Eisenhauer?"
A jury man stood up, a folded piece of paper held tightly in his hand. He slowly unfolded the piece of paper and began to read aloud.
"We the jury, find the defendant, David Eisenhauer, guilty in the abduction and murder of thirteen-year-old, Nicole Lovell."
The entire court room burst into tears. Some of joy, relief, sorrow. The judge banged his gavel against the desk again.
"I hereby sentence David Eisenhauer to 50 years in prison and 25 years of probation afterwards. Thank you, jury, for your helpful role in this case. You may now be dismissed. Case closed."
Hayley remained seated as almost everyone in the court room got out of their seats and started exiting. Left, right and center, people were weeping and hugging. Hayley watched as David was taken out of the court room. Even though persecutors pushed for a life sentence, the judge decided against that. Hayley was rotted! David deserved to burn in hell for what he did to her. He should never be able to walk on the face of the earth again. Dean and Sam helped Hayley to her feet. She held both of their hands as Sam led them out of the court room.
"Hey, hey. This is a win, isn't it?" Sam asked quietly, watching Hayley as she wiped away a tear.
"No! How could they only give David 50 years! That is ridiculous! He murdered my best friend! He killed her! He killed her!" She sobbed, falling to her knees.
Dean caught her before she hit the ground. He scooped her up into his arms and brought her out to the 1967 Chevy Impala. The brothers brought her home, gave her all the ice cream they could afford and cuddled with her until she fell asleep. Both Winchester boys knew losing her best friend was hard on her. What Dean and Sam didn't know was that Hayley blamed herself. She wished she didn't feel this way. She wished Nicole was still here. Nicole didn't deserve to die. After Hayley fell asleep on the couch, Dean brought her back to her room and tucked her in bed, like he used to when she was a little girl.
"Dean?" Hayley murmured.
"Yeah, sweetie?"
"Thanks." She yawned.
"For what?"
"For being by my side. Through this whole case. I don't know where I'd be without you and Sam. I'm still angry about David and his only getting 50 years in prison, but at least he was brought to justice. Nicole deserved no less than that."
"Well of course, you know Sam and I would never leave you high and dry. You call us, and we're there. David will get what he deserves for hurting your best friend, I will promise you that. Prison is no walk in the park." Dean pressed a kiss on his little sister's forehead. "Now get some rest. You've had a long day."
Dean headed out of Hayley's room. It wasn't long after that when Hayley couldn't keep her eyes open any longer. She was thankful for her brothers throughout this whole situation. They were her rock. She needed them. But she also needed her friend- She would never see her friend again.
Rest In Peace, Nicole Lovell.
