Kid Liam, in a high voice, holding Barbie: Hey, Ken! I was thinking about going back to school and starting a career! Kid Isaac, in a deep voice, holding Ken: Nonsense, Barbie. You’re staying home and having my kids. David *Newly a step-father for Camden, Jordan, Isaac, and Liam while very confused*: What are you guys doing? Kid Liam: Playing systemic oppression. Teen Jordan: Ooh, can I join? Kid Isaac: Yeah! Anyone can! Go ask Cam to as well! Teen Camden *walking by the door*: Yeah, I think I’m good.

'Organisers of a legendary fundraiser for striking miners are returning to the same venue in Camden Town for a “good old bop” 40th anniversary event.
Tickets for the London Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners’ return to the Electric Ballroom, on May 16, are already selling out.
The Pits and Perverts line-up is yet to be finalised but it promises a night of music, dance, drag, political speakers and compered by cabaret and performance artist David Hoyle.
Synth-pop political agitators Bronski Beat headlined the original gig, in December 1984, which drew more than 1,500 fans, gay activists and striking coal miners from across the country to Camden Town.
The story of the LGSM and the night at the Ballroom has become iconic after it was retold in the 2014 film Pride and its glittering cast including George MacKay, Dominic West, Andrew Scott, Imelda Staunton and Bill Nighy among others.
One of the original LGSM organisers, Mike Jackson, told me this week how proud he was about the group’s role in not only supporting the miners – but also changing attitudes towards lesbian and gay people.
Mr Jackson, who lives in King’s Cross, said: “This is the only Pits and Perverts event we’ve had since the original. And it’s really pleasing to be back at the Electric Ballroom. It’s going to be a very diverse night and a good old bop.
“I hadn’t been back there since that day so it was a strange feeling to go in there when we were organising.
“There are lot of ghosts in the Electric Ballroom. So many famous acts have passed through.”
I last spoke to Mike when a signed original Pits and Perverts poster – designed by Kevin Franklin – was put up at the King Charles I pub in King’s Cross in 2022.
On Sunday he was up in Rotherham, Yorkshire, speaking to the miners at a 40th anniversary event.
He said: “I harked back to what it was like as a young gay man in the 60s and 70s. Nobody liked us: politicians, courts, police.
“We had no rights to fight back with. It’s great that things have changed so much with that – and to think how we played a role in it all.
“The unions played a role too.
“Because long before we got those rights enshrined in law, the trade union movement had been helping by starting to look at employment rights, and all the other things that trade unions do.
“When the equalities legislation came in with Tony Blair, there was already a worked-out template for employment rules thanks to the unions.”
Mr Jackson said the LGSM had been “reconstituted” following the Pride movie and that he was part of a group of four remaining working on the legacy.
“We’ve all this merchandise that is still incredibly popular.
“People love our T-shirts. We give the profits away to good causes. We don’t want to be a charity.
“We want to be political. It’s been great to work with the Lesbian and Gays Support the Migrants.
“They are like our next generation really.”
Mr Jackson, a horticulturist who worked at Camden Garden Centre for 16 years, said he was tiring a little physically in old age but still remained as angry as ever.
“The fire is still there. The anger is still there.
“What is this nonsense about people becoming more right wing as they get older? The older I get the more angry I get.
“Because in so much, f*** all has changed.
“I am 72 days before the gig. I can tell you what the news will be: housing, education, war, benefits, the welfare state, greedy capitalism.
“At the same time my best friend is my bed. Sometimes I scream at my bed: ‘I love you, bed.’
“So with all this I am a bit surviving on adrenalin. It’s a bit scary. We are a bunch of amateurs really and it’s a big venue to sell tickets for.
“With the original, we felt the same but once we secured Bronski Beat – I think their Smalltown Boy was No 1 – we knew it would be a success.”
And he revealed his latest theory on where the night got its very excellent name from.
Mr Jackson said: “There’s a great little video you can find called Framed Youth – The Revenge of the Teenage Perverts.
“It was a video project created by the Lesbian and Youth Project, as they were called then, where youngsters had been given training and access to making a video – it was a Ken Livingstone thing, I think.
“This was 42 years ago – two years before the miners strike.
“They go into Ridley Road market in Dalston and simply ask the question: Can you tell me what a lesbian is? It’s like ‘a murderer’, ‘a sex maniac’.
“It’s so comical, but also quite dark. The lesbians were p***ing themselves laughing.
“But that’s what we wanted to do – take the insult, neutralise it and throw it back at people.”
The film, which won an award, is available on YouTube.
The original concert raised more £5,500, which was distributed to families in need.
Tickets for the 7pm event cost £20 and are available on the Electric Ballroom website.'

Behind the Scenes of Wild Blue Yonder - Part Three
Excerpt from Benjamin Cook's article on Bernard Cribbins in DWM #598
It’s a crisp Monday morning in Camden Market, and all is OK with the world. Because it’s 16 May 2022 and, just for one day, Bernard Cribbins is back on Doctor Who. “Wilfred Mott! Now I feel better,” declares the Doctor, stepping out of the blue police box parked up on the cobbles. “Now nothing is wrong. Nothing in the whole wide world. Hello, my old soldier.” A pause. “Shall I give you a hug,” asks David Tennant, “before I say, ‘Hello, my old soldier’?” “Yeah, why not,” replies Bernard, sat in his wheelchair, centre stage, framed against the iconic TARDIS. “Give us a cuddle!” Clad in Wilf’s cozy brown coat and flat cap, Bernard is rehearsing the final, climactic scene of Wild Blue Yonder, the second of Doctor Who’s three 60th Anniversary Specials, alongside David Tennant and Catherine Tate. None of them knows it, but this will be Bernard’s last working day in a TV, film and theatre career that spans almost 80 years (he started work aged 14, at Oldham Rep in January 1943). It’ll also be Wilf’s final bow. “I never thought I’d see you again,” he tells the Doctor, welling up. “After all these years. Oh, Doctor, that lovely face.” A chuckle. “It’s like springtime… Is it David’s face I’m looking at?” queries Bernard. “Yes, you haven’t seen him in years,” the director, Tom Kingsley, jumps in, “and you could not be happier. You’re playing it just right, Bernard.” “Well,” says Bernard, “no acting required.” He’s genuinely delighted to be reunited with his Doctor Who co-stars, for the first time, on screen, in 13 years. “And that is just materialising, is it? – that thing?” he asks of the TARDIS. “Wilf’s been here, waiting?” “That’s right,” says Tom.

Amy Winehouse's statue in Camden Market had a Palestinian flag sticker taped on where her Star of David should be.
When your movement goes after Jewish symbols and tries to erase Jews, maybe you should ask yourself - what are you actually supporting?

As we approach Fire Country’s premiere on the 2024 TV schedule, I spoke with Thieriot and Napolitano about what’s in store for Season 3. Obviously, that meant I had to ask about the news regarding Padalecki that broke over the summer. In response, the Bode actor told me during our interview for CinmeaBlend that this all stemmed out of the sweet fact that he’s really good friends with the Walker actor:
"Jared and I have been friends for a long time. You know, we've never had the opportunity to work together. Our families have spent a lot of time together. We've spent New Years together. And finally, we had an opportunity where, you know, unfortunately, his show came to an end, but the silver lining was we got this opportunity to finally try and figure out how to work together. And you know, the folks over at CBS are big fans – [CBS Studios President] David Stapf, and everyone…So it was, in a weird way, kind of easy to say, like, ‘Hey, Jared and I are good buddies. Like, what does everybody think?"
Well, everybody thought it was a great idea, and as Thieriot explained, casting him felt like “a no-brainer.” Showrunner Tia Napolitano confirmed that for me during our interview ahead of the premiere as well. She explained that the enthusiasm surrounding bringing the Gilmore Girls actor on was palpable, and they couldn’t wait to have him:
"He was a name that everyone was just immediately very excited about, and then it's definitely Max and Jared are friends. So Max is saying ‘He's a great guy. I'm so excited about this.’ We sat down with him, and, you know, it was just the chemistry. We were so excited to get him over here. He's also a really nice guy, like, just a professional sweetheart, so good, so talented, and he and Max, their chemistry as friends working together and on-screen was just off the charts. So we got very lucky. I was also a huge fan of his all the way back to Gilmore Girls. So it just felt like iconic TV opportunities."
From there it simply took a few conversations, Thieriot recalled, and then Padalecki was on the show.
Notably, this role also wasn’t pre-written before the Walker actor signed on, it was created specifically for him. So, it was imperative that he said yes, as the showrunner told me:
"This was written for Jared. So, if Jared didn't come play with us, we were gonna get our hearts broken."
To that point, the Bode actor explained that his friend’s character is a thrilling addition, because he’ll show off a totally different side of Cal Fire. Camden is a firefighter from Southern California, and as Thieriot said, in his world the “Wranglers and boots” are traded for “flip flops and tank tops.” So, he’ll bring a new fun energy to the show, and the SEAL Team actor’s words about that have me very excited:
"He just brings such a different energy to the show. And his interactions with all the characters are fun. He definitely comes in and makes a big impact. So I'm excited. I'm excited for everybody see it. I think the arc that he came in and did is really exciting. And, you know, we'll see where it all goes from here. But he certainly adds a lot to the world."
What a cool interview! I love the enthusiasm everyone has for Jared, from the top brass at CBS to the showrunner and Max!
(Tank tops and flip flops???)

I’m here to report that Macbeth was truly one of - if not the best - plays I’ve ever seen. It was magically intense from start to finish and David Tennant was honestly on top form. Being so close to him and feeling his emotion as he acted is a state of euphoria I can’t even describe. This was the closeness for reference:
The next day, after we both experienced the play of a lifetime, me and my bestie @kottekonst took a trip to Camden Market where we visited some of the Doctor Who 60th filming locations - to stand in the spot Bernard Cribbins performed his last stand as Wilfred Mott was incredible.
And to top it all off - as I was getting off the train, I spotted Ruth Madeley who played Shirley in the 60th specials. Then we both watched the Tenth/Fourteenth Doctor in Macbeth, none other than DT. AND THEN my bestie spotted Peter Capaldi (?!) getting into a lift after the theatre. Coincidence? Magic? Who knows.
#it’s been a magical few days to say the least#and now I have two weeks with my bestie#can I hear a wahoo#david tennant#doctor who#fourteenth doctor#ruth madeley#peter capaldi#Macbeth#bernard cribbins#wilfred mott

“When we were younger, Cam said that he would take Jordan, Isaac, and I anywhere we wanted to go when we were all out of high school. We were gonna travel the world.” Liam says, breaking the silence, “What?” Theo asks, sitting up, “You asked me to tell you some stuff I remember from my childhood.” Liam explains, also sitting up “Right, I did.” Theo responds, “D’you have anything else?” he questions.
“Every break from school except for winter break and Thanksgiving break, after Cam got his driver's license. We would all pile into the car that David got him and go on a little road trip to Nevada, Arizona, or Oregon. It depended on where we had gone the last time.” Liam answers, “We- we would take some tents and a couple of sleeping bags, and, if it was nice enough, we would sleep outside under the stars.” he adds, smiling fondly at the memory.
“Anything else?” Theo inquires after a little while, “I’m thinking.” Liam responds.
“On one of the trips, Isaac left his shoes outside the tent he and Jordan were sharing, because he jumped in a lake we were nearby with them on, and his shoes got stolen. We had to go to a store and buy him some new ones.” Liam says, when he remembers another thing, “W-we also- whenever mom called to check in on us during the trips, Isaac and I would practically fall over each other to be the first to say hi.” Liam has a genuine smile on his face, “She always laughed at us when we did it, saying that we didn’t have to race to do stuff before the other.” he continues, laughing happily.
“Isaac and I were very competitive kids, always fighting to be the first one to get mom’s attention, or her help with our homework. Probably because we’re only two years apart, but still.” Liam states.
“Do you have any pictures from the trips?” Theo asks, “They seem like very nice memories, I would love to see some if you do.” he adds, “Yeah! Uh, yeah, I do.” Liam responds, “Give me one second?” he asks, Theo nods in response.
Liam rushes out of his room and grabs a box from the top of a closet. It’s labeled “The kids’ road trips” in red sharpie.
Liam sets the box on his bed and opens it. Theo eyes the box with a furrowed brow.
“We took a lot of pictures.” Liam explains, picking up a picture of he and Isaac at a campfire with smores in their hands, chocolate on their faces, and wet hair moved out of their eyes so they don’t get food in it. “This was the summer I re-learned to swim.” he says, “Re-learned?” Theo questions, “I don’t swim much, so I forgot.” Liam answers, “It’s also the summer Camden got swimmer’s ear.” he adds, “Really?” Theo asks, “Yeah, he swam too far down and mom had to help him put drops in his ear when we got back.” Liam responds, picking up another photo.
“This picture was taken while Jordan went to get more wood for the fire, when he got back he set the wood down quietly and snuck up behind me and Isaac scaring us by tapping on our shoulders.” he says, Theo laughs a little and grabs another photo, “What’s the story behind this one?” he asks.
“Oh!” Liam shouts, “Oh no, I didn’t know that one was in there!” he adds, taking it from the other, Theo’s interest obviously peaks, “Now you definitely have to tell me the story.” Theo states, “That was the summer before Cam left, I spent most of the time clinging on to him, I just- I wouldn’t let go of him. I knew that it would be the last trip of the year, because Jordan, Isaac and I promised to not go on another trip until he got back. This was the last photo we ever took with him. Even after we got back from the trip, I would ask to sleep in his room with him. It was like I knew something bad would happen, but I obviously couldn’t ask him to stay. It’s weird, because I was almost eight in this picture, he didn’t die till I was ten.” Liam explains, “Maybe it was some sort of intuition?” Theo says, “You think I’m psychic or something like that?” Liam questions, “Maybe.” Theo answers, shrugging. Liam rolls his eyes.
“Let’s move onto other photos, okay?” Liam asks, Theo nods.
“What about this one?” Theo inquires, holding up a picture of Camden and Jordan lifting Liam up while holding his hands. “Izzy took that one when we went to the store to get snacks on our way to grandma’s house. When I was younger I liked when people would swing me, but only Cam and JJ could lift me as high as I would like.” Liam answers, “That one isn’t really from a road trip with just us, but Cam, Jordy, Iz, and I were all in the same car, so I guess that’s why it ended up in this box.” he adds.
“Was it nice?” Theo questions, “Yeah, yeah it was.” Liam answers, “I miss these moments, but, Cam’s dead, Jordan, he’s doing his own thing at the police department, and Isaac, well, let’s just say we stopped arguing about who’s gonna get mom’s help and attention first. I know that he needed to leave, get this town in the past and everything, but… I wish he would’ve waited. Y’know?” he continues, “Yeah, I know what you mean.” Theo responds.
A silence falls across the room, the only sound being soft breathing coming from the two.
“I miss them.” Liam whispers, “What?” Theo questions.
“My family… I miss them. I know that they’re not really gone, well, except for Cam, but… I miss being a kid, and only worrying about when the next trip we are gonna go on is, n-not worrying if I’m gonna lose anymore friends, or family… I miss going around the mall on Camden’s shoulders because I get tired of walking. I miss being carried to my room after pretending to fall asleep in the car on the way home. I miss sleeping under the stars with my big brothers next to me, knowing that whatever happens they will always be there for me. I miss being a kid. I miss Cam. I miss Camden, Jordan, and Isaac laughing at the stupid jokes I make. I miss being told I’m gonna be okay after I fall off of my bike. I miss my brothers always being able to cheer me up no matter what. I miss getting stuffed animals from Cam on my birthday, stuffed animals that I still have no idea how he bought. I mi- I miss e-everything.” Liam responds, crying by the end.
“Liam,” Theo starts, pulling the younger one into a hug, “You’ll be fine, everything will be fine.” he continues, “Leave town.” Liam says, pulling away from the hug, “What?” Theo asks, “Leave town.” Liam repeats sternly, “No why?” the taller questions, “Because, everyone that I care about always ends up getting hurt or dead, I don’t want that to happen to you.” he explains, “And, as much as you leaving will hurt, you dying will hurt so much worse.” the younger adds, “I am not leaving, and nothing you say can make me. I am not running from my problems, Liam.” Theo says, “Besides, you just said me leaving will hurt you, and honestly, I don’t want to hurt you anymore than I already have.” he continues, pulling Liam back into a hug.
“I want Camden to come back.” Liam whispers, “I know you do, Li.” Theo responds, holding the younger closer, “I didn’t mean what I said, I don’t want you to leave… no matter how much it seems like I do.” Liam states, “I know. I’ll always know.” the taller says, “Good, you should know that.” Liam answers, Theo chuckles, “I’ll make sure I don’t forget then.” he responds, “Awesome, will you pick up the pictures?” Liam questions, “I want to sleep.” he adds, “Of course I will, you didn’t even have to ask.” Theo answers.
After Theo takes the box off of Liam’s bed and puts the pictures in it he goes to ask Jenna where to put it. “Stay?” Liam asks before the other leaves, “But the box?” Theo inquires, “Leave it, I’ll deal with it in the morning. Please, just stay?” the younger responds, “Okay, Liam.” Theo answers, “Good, lie down.” Liam says, pointing to the spot in front of him. Theo lies down wordlessly turned towards the younger and Liam moves closer to him.
“Thank you.” Liam says sleepily, “You’re welcome.” Theo responds.

THEIR TASTE IN MOVIES.
characters written about in this piece : bruce wayne, dick grayson, jason todd, tim drake, damian wayne, barbara gordon, duke thomas, stephanie brown, cassandra cain
note : i lit thought of this last night and wrote it within 12 hours is this my comeback
BRUCE WAYNE
you guys are gonna hateee meee 💀💀💀💀 but i think bruce wayne is an avid documentary watcher. he likes living in real life, likes knowing everything he is experiencing is real. and he likes being in the know of the topics circulating the planet he's living on. he's not a reality tv person though (although he may have a super super guilty pleasure of love island uk that tim and barb found out and he literally threatened them to keep to themselves, but they use as blackmail anyway).
movies i think he would like :
fyre: the greatest party that never happened, 2019. directed by chris smith
how to catch a serial killer, 2018. directed by john holdsworth
athlete a, 2020. directed by bonni cohen & jon shenk
the hatchet wielding hitchhiker, 2023. directed by colette camden
DICK GRAYSON
the total opposite of bruce, i can see dick watching more idyllic things, and just feel good ! he might like a nice biopic, but is really picky (pun unintended) about them. he also enjoys musicals !! but musicals that focus on realism and story instead of theatricals, like i think he'd pass on moulin rouge, just because there's so much going on at one time. also likes media he consumed from when he was younger, he likes the fuzziness of nostalgia.
movies i think he would like :
the greatest showman, 2017. directed by michael gracey
a knight's tale, 2001. directed by brian helgeland
the truman show, 1998. directed by peter weir
bohemian rhapsody, 2018. directed by bryan singer
JASON TODD
jason loves an action movie. he so wouldn't tell anybody, but if he likes a move he's seen in a film, he'll try it on patrol, taking out one of penguin's henchmen, or even when just training in the bat cave. but he loves films where a lot's going on and the choreography is really impressive !! he really admires fight choreographers for being able to make them look realistic, and likes to laugh at the ones that are shite.
movies i think he would like :
bullet train, 2022. directed by david leitch
scarface, 1983. directed by brian de palma
kingsman: the secret service, 2014. directed by matthew vaughn
john wick, 2014. directed by chad stahelski (and all the sequels)
TIM DRAKE
this guy prefers to watch alone, meaning he can experience sadder watched exactly how they're meant to be watched; in tears. he probably struggles to be emotional, so also watching films like these is an outlet for him. i love how with all of these their films are like a guilty pleasure thing they wouldn't tell anyone. i think people's choice in film is very telling though, so...
la la land, 2016. directed by damien chazelle
manchester by the sea, 2016. directed by kenneth lonergan
aftersun, 2022. directed by charlotte wells
dead poets society, 1989. directed by peter weir
DAMIAN WAYNE
we all know damian wayne is an... interesting species. i feel like even though he knows it is an unlikely scenario, he has figures out everything he would do in a zombie apocalypse, but hasn't told anybody, and would actively make fun of someone who has done the same. like he knows what weapons he'd need, where he'd go, how he'd make an antidote. what i'm trying to say is he likes zombie movies, and horror movies. it feels like he's testing himself, on his ability to be scared or prepared in these or future scenarios. even tho he doesn't actually get that scared. also doesn't mind foreign films, he thinks they're better at telling a story.
movies i think he would like :
train to busan, 2016. directed by yeon sangho
split, 2016. directed by m night shyamalan
hereditary, 2018. directed by ari aster
long legs, 2024. directed by osgood perkins
BARBARA GORDON
i can see barbara enjoying older films, like she likes films that show what life used to be like, and why it may have been better then, and why it may be better now. she's a very philosophical person, always thinking about shit like that. might be a black and white fan, but i'm talking technicolour classics ! she likes a good romance as well, but not ones she cries too, ones that are more feel-good and make her crave the love from that movie.
movies i think she would like :
how to lose a guy in 10 days, 2003. directed by donald petrie
west side story, 1961. directed by jerome robbins & robert wise
funny face, 1957. directed by stanley donen
notting hill, 1999. directed by roger michell
STEPHANIE BROWN
this girl will watch ANYTHING like she has such a wide taste. i said that with her music taste too, like i think she could find a way to enjoy anything. she doesn't like film bro films too much, thinks they're poo and they stink and if you're a guy and you like them you stink too and "get no bitches", but obviously that's up to opinion. obviously. although she will watch anything, i think she has a preference for comedies, and that can come in any shape and form!
movies i think she would like :
scooby doo, 2002. directed by raja gosnell
scary movie, 2000. directed by keenan ivory wayans
white chicks, 2004. directed by keenan ivory wayans
mean girls, 2004. directed by mark waters
DUKE THOMAS
duke likes epic films, like if we ignore for a sec that we're in the dc universe, he would love the batman films, especially the nolan trilogy. but he also would actually be a huge marvel fan, i can totally see it. so he likes superhero films, and he's def a fan of comedy, so if it's mixed into one genre, that's a winner for him. he likes movie nights with the family, so sitting down and getting snacks. probably loves the cinema too, so goes to see the new releases every month. isn't too picky.
movies i think he would like :
deadpool & wolverine, 2024. directed by shawn levy
kick-ass, 2010. directed by matthew vaughn
the harder they fall, 2021. directed by jeymes samuel
top gun: maverick, 2022. directed by joseph kosinski
CASSANDRA CAIN
cassandra watches MASTERPIECES. she definitely has a letterboxd account and writes wayyy too much than she needs to about a film, no matter if she loved it, hated it, or was in the middle about it. she adores foreign films, and loves films with a message. she'll watch and enjoy a film with no plot, but can get tired of them. she likes a packed plot that keeps her focused.
mustang, 2015. directed by deniz gamze ergüven
oslo, august 31st, 2011. directed by joachim trier
