This is a very interesting home. Built in 1895 in Davenport, IA, the architecture is superb. 8bds, 8ba, 4,124 sq ft, $399,900.
The foyer is interesting, as soon as you step inside. Look at the built-in hall tree on the left, and that has to be an original light fixture.
An oversized wide door opens directly to the living room. Look at the inlaid floor.
I've never seen such an unusual layout. This is a living room with a semi-enclosed staircase and a hall along the side. The stairs have a built-in bench and note the pocket doors on the right.
Down the hall behind the stairs, there's a guest powder room.
The dining room is amazing. Look at the fireplace- beautifully carved wood and bright blue tile. Plus, there's a built-in China cabinet. And the wallpaper mural is lovely.
I think that we can all agree that the kitchen remodel fits nicely. The wood matches, they left the fireplace, and there's a stained glass window. The granite counters fit much better than if they were stark white, but I don't care for the color of the ceiling.
Love the copper double farm sink and the backsplash.
Original pantry. This is wonderful.
Cute little breakfast room/every day dining room.
Next to the dining room there's a lovely pastel blue family room.
Look at how delicately carved the spindles are, and there's the beautiful bronze statue on the newel post.
Wow. Fancy primary bedroom. I like the paint and fireplace, but there's a little too much fabric for me.
This is a very nice room. I like the ceilings in the bedrooms.
Rounded wall with a pretty sink in the room.
There are more bedrooms in the finished attic.
Plus 3 modern baths up here, also.
The back of the house is nicer than the front- look at the beautiful round porch.
There's a large, shady yard. I like the lattice, too.
This rusty little gazebo has so much charm.
.28 acre lot.

I Think The Sharpes' China Is Diagetically Davenport Imari 2614 And Not Royal Crown Derby Imari 2451 And Here's Why
the earliest examples of the RCD pattern I've seen are early 1900s, though apparently they started making it in 1887. seems unlikely that the adult siblings could afford a new, large china set
but. look at what Davenport was doing as early as 1870:
It's the same. Pattern.
I know this pattern. I have spent a truly deranged amount of time staring at this pattern. I have a whole-ass tea set in this pattern approx. three yards from me in a glass-fronted cabinet at this very moment. and this is the exact same pattern, but being made (it seems to me) at least 17 years before RCD started doing it. oh, and Davenport closed its doors in 1887- the same year the RCD Imari 2451 apparently hit the market
the movie props are RCD, to be sure. I know this because I have one- a cup and saucer set from Cynthia Finlay's Antiques in Toronto, who rented the china out to the CPeak production team. but I believe that, in-story, it's actually the Davenport
thank you for coming to my "Marzi, go to bed" TED Talk
#antiques#crimson peak#Also Cynthia Finlay does take credit card orders over the phone#and at least ships to the US though I don’t know about other international destinations#just saying if anyone else wants a CPeak Relic#they seemed to have several cup and saucer sets left#which I guess makes sense considering it’s not a smash hit movie#fun fact: the set that Edith and her father use at home was also rented out to the handmaid‘s tale#but that one’s being sold as a full set and in the multi-thousand dollar range

"You can't just ask me questions and expect me not to ask them back!" Merle said, scooting his chair in. They were sitting around the circular meeting table. The meeting itself had ended about an hour ago, but this room wasn't booked for another two hours.
Originally, they were all supposed to stay, but Taako and Lup had made up some bullshit excuse (Lucretia wanted to doubt the existence of a live cooking themed around Fantasy Hocus Pocus, but with how insistent they had been on its existence, she wasn't sure anymore). Davenport did actually have another meeting to go to. Barry, at least, seemed to tell the truth when he said he was going to go home and nap. Magnus's had obviously been a lie, unless "going to walk my fish" was a euphemism that Lucretia didn't know about.
So here she was with Merle.
"I think I can," Lucretia said, pulling her journal closer to her.
"It's team building," Merle said. "Y'know, with the whole team." He gestured around to the empty table.
"Sure," Lucretia said.
"Fine, fine," Merle said. "I'll come up with a different question." Merle leaned back in his chair, squinting his eyes up to the ceiling as he thought. Lucretia finished writing down Merle's answer to the last question. Then, "alright. I've got one."
"Hit me," Lucretia said.
"What's your biggest fear?"
"That's.... so much deeper than what I've asked you," Lucretia said.
"First you want me to make a new question, then ya don't want my question-!"
"No, no!" Lucretia said. "I mean, I'll answer it. But that's a pretty deep cut, Merle."
"That's just how I role, baby."
"Never call me that again."
"Right. Right, gotcha."
Lucretia tried to think. Her biggest fear? She was scared of lots of things. One of her family members dying. Her dying. Ferrets. The big filing cabinet Davenport had next to his desk, the one that wobbled every time someone went near it. But her biggest fear?
"Forgetting who I am," Lucretia said, before she could really even think about it more. "Forgetting where- where I came from and just- everything about me. Not knowing who I am and not being able to remember."
"Oh," Merle said. "Wowza."
"You asked," Lucretia said, laying her journal flat. She had started to bring it up to her chest as she thought.
"Wowza like, that's deep!" Merle said, "not like, that's bad. Is that- I mean, d'you think that's why you, uh, chronicle so much? So you remember stuff? Or am I just pullin' at straws here?"
"The writing is... a part of it," Lucretia said. "But I- to be honest, Merle, I try not to think about it too much, considering it's my biggest fear. Maybe the journalling is part of it, maybe not, but it's not the main reason I write, no."
"Gotcha," Merle said.
"Now to throw it back at you-" Merle groaned and Lucretia cracked a little grin. "What's your biggest fear, Merle?"
"Fantasy Kool-Aid Man," Merle said, no hesitation.

big bad wolff
Pairing: Braxton Wolff x Marybeth Medina
Summary: Passing on a contract is a first for Brax, but there's something pulling at his heartstrings that is far more interesting than the money he was offered.
Content/Warnings: 18+, Explicit, Smut, Vaginal Sex, Dom/Sub Undertones, Alcohol, Associates with Benefits (or something like that).
Word Count: 2k (precisely)
— You can read below or at AO3.
“Hard pass,” Braxton slides the envelope across the table after taking a quick look at his new target. “I don't fuck with law enforcement.”
“That's the line you draw? Thought you were all about the money.”
“I love money. But a man gotta have a code, too. 'Sides Treasury? It'd put a target on my back.”
“She’s an analyst.”
“Still. Working for the federals.”
“What if I double the offer?”
Braxton raises a brow and opens the envelope again to see the beautiful Marybeth Medina in the photo inside.
As tempting as the offer is…
“I'm sorry, Mr. Calhoun. I'm afraid the answer is still no. What did she do anyway?”
“She's got her nose in my client's business like a rabid dog after a buried bone. The only way to stop her from digging further would be to gently put her down.”
“Hm, I've met women like that.”
“I thought you guys were professionals. Can't you make it look like an accident? What would you say if I added another 50 grand?”
“It’s possible, but accidents can get the wrong people asking the right questions, and I can't have that in my line of business.”
“You're a hitman.”
“And you're a two-time slimy lawyer that scours a six-figure representing the scum of the earth that make me look like the Easter Bunny.”
“I have to say, Mr. Wolff, your reputation does not precede you. Mr. Davenport won't be pleased to know you have refused to do your job.”
“Davenport is not my boss. Tell him I said hi.”
He watches Calhoun like a hawk as the lawyer retrieves his cellphone from Braxton's assistant.
“Did you tap it?” He asks once Calhoun has left the premises.
“Who do you think I am? Of course, I tapped it.”
“Good. You tell H to get a detailed list of all his calls, meetings, texts… I need to know where this asshole eats, when he shits, where he does his dry cleaning…”
“The whole gist. Got it.”
“Put a couple of guys on Medina, too. Just in case.”
“I thought that was your job.”
“Yeah, but I'm afraid they're going to double down now. I can't take those chances.”
“You had to piss him off, didn't you?”
“You know me, sweetheart. My mouth runs faster than my brain. I'm a lost cause.”
Later that night, Braxton sneaks into Medina's building. His guys are already staking the place per his orders.
Medina is not home yet when he breaks into her apartment. It wouldn't be the first time he's done it.
In the dark, he pulls out a mini flashlight and RF detector and checks every nook of her place for hidden bugs.
Given their history, he kinda owes her this one. Even if he didn't, what he said to Calhoun is right, he doesn't fuck with law enforcement. At least not in that sense.
He's going through her desk when Marybeth opens the door.
She’s not surprised one bit to find him there when she turns on the light.
“Look what the cat dragged in. Do you ever just wait for people to invite you in, Mr. Wolff?” She watches Braxton, clad in back, putting his gadgets away.
“Hm, sometimes. But it's not as fun.”
“Business or pleasure?” her frown remains firm as she puts her case down, removes her blazer and steps out of her uncomfortable shoes.
“How about both?”
“Some things never change.”
Marybeth rolls the sleeves of her dress shirt and pulls out a bottle of scotch and two ball glasses from the cabinet, as he takes off his leather gloves and sits at the dining table.
That's how their meetings always start – with a bottle of Lagavulin and a formal debrief that follows with them handling their pressing business between sheets.
“I think I have a mole,” Marybeth realizes after hearing Brax's warning.
“How do you figure?”
“Because only me and my boss know about Davenport LLC. We're still gathering evidence.”
“Is your boss dirty?”
“Ray King?” She chuckles a little, “not a chance in hell.”
“Well, whatever you have on Davenport is making them shit their panties.”
“Davenport doesn’t scare me,” she throws back her glass, taking a big gulp of her drink.
“He should. I’ve seen what he does with pretty faces like yours.”
“You think he’d be that dumb to go after me?”
“He came to me, honey. He is that dumb.”
“You could've just called, you know?”
“Had to make sure nobody was listening.”
“Are they?”
“No.”
“Good. Can we move on now to the pleasure part? I had a long day.”
“I just told you one of the most dangerous men on the planet is after you and you’re not worried at all?”
“Oh, I am worried. But he’s not going to show up tonight, is he? Uh-uh. Not as long as I have The Big Bad Wolff on my side.”
“Gotta say, Medina. You were not like this when we met. You went quickly from little lamb to lion.”
“Maybe I was never a lamb. And, you weren't like this, either. It seems that you actually care about what happens to me, Mr. Wolff.”
“Well, perhaps I do. Would that be so bad?”
“Hm, no. Not at all.” She stands up, offering a hand in his direction. “You coming, Big Wolff?”
“Rock ‘n Roll, girl.”
Braxton downs the rest of his drink and takes her hand, letting her lead the way to her bedroom.
Under the warm glow of the night lamp, and Brax’s brazen stare, her hands undo one by one the buttons of her shirt. As her skin comes to view, he pulls out his boots and slips out of his jacket without letting her out of his sight.
There’s no rush, but the thrill is palpable. It lingers in the air. They’ve already gone through this more times than he can count, and watching her undress her body is just as exciting as all those times he’s ripped her clothes apart.
When they're both stripped to his underwear, his hands automatically are drawn to frame her hips, pulling her body flush against his. Marybeth tilts her head, tentatively seizing his mouth slowly, letting her fingers draw the toned slopes of his arms.
Her tongue moves past his lips as her skin comes alive, buzzing under his palms, as his fingertips sink at the curve of her ass.
Brax tries to take control of the kiss, but Marybeth doesn't waver, and brings one of her hands to hold his chin still. She nibbles his bottom lip before sucking it between her teeth to see it turn dark pink after releasing it.
Usually, she lets him be the one in charge, but tonight she's in the mood for something different. There are things outside this room that escape her control, and here with him is the only thing she can get a semblance of power.
“Thought you wanted the big bad Wolff.”
“I want him on a leash,” her hand curls around his throat without squeezing.
“Yeah? What do I get in return?”
“Me.”
He scoffs and licks his lips, “okay, lil lion, show me what you got.”
Marybeth keeps her hold around his neck, guiding him backwards toward the bed until the back of his legs meet the mattress. He lays down on his back, and she crawls on top of him. She braces her palms on his chest, straddles his lap, allowing her hips to gently circle over his crotch.
His hands are automatically called to hold those beautiful hips that shamelessly grind, earning themselves a good hard-on to enjoy.
Behind layers of underwear, she rubs herself over and over, a little faster each time, letting that sweet spot revel in the friction he provides as the inner side of her panties quickly gets coated in her juices.
Locking eyes with her, he’s utterly mesmerized by the unbearable beauty of Marybeth as she bites her bottom lip. From above, she watches him exhale and buck up like an animal between her legs, trying to drill his way into her.
It's a torturous deed, she's aware. There's a fine line between playing with Brax or riling him up, and she's just lightly tapping on it. If she pressed any harder, it'd be like poking that ravenous wolf.
After a long moment, she brings her hips to a halt and reaches back with her fingers to unclasp her bra. As she tosses it aside, she leans forward to gently bite on his lip.
“Good, Wolff,” she grins, tracing the shape of his lips with the tip of her tongue as her fingers slip under the elastic of his boxers to feel his erection. It fills up her fist, throbs as her hand squeezes just a little harder to have his precum wetting the head.
“Hmm,” his lip curls, showing those teeth he's marked on her skin many times before.
Getting him to a point of perfection, she finally rids herself of her panties and pulls down his boxers. His cock jolts on its own when her knuckles graze his shaft. Propped on her knees, she lifts her ass, lines the blunt tip of his cock with her entrance, and sinks onto him.
In less than a second, as usual, he forgets altogether why he came here as her wet ass pussy slides up and down his hardness.
“Fuck me, girl,” he pants as she sinks all the way down, having her divinely, tight opening pressing around him.
Once she's comfortable enough, she angles her body forward, propping her hands on either side of his head, and moves a little faster. First, just rocking back and forth, and then bouncing with practiced ease as Brax fills his eager palms with her ass. Her breasts are so perfectly round and perked, bouncing dangerously close to his face, he can't help but stick his head up to nibble one of them.
Marybeth, smiling mid-moan, holds his head with one hand as he viciously wraps his lips around her nipple. His grunts ripple all over her skin, making her core ache, as he moves to the other boob.
He uses his teeth this time, there's so much she can do to tame that wild beast beneath her, she wouldn't even stop it if she wanted to. After crossing that line, he's all lips, tongue, and paws claiming her body.
His arms curl around her, and before she realizes, he's turning the tables to get himself on top of her and charge the rest of the way. He desperately pushes into her at full force, coaxing her body into submission. The most beautiful cries come out of her as he drives her into madness when his fingers find their way to her clit.
Having his fingers working furiously on that spot, he bites her neck, scrapes his teeth on her jaw before devouring her mouth. He can't bring himself to stop until he's poured every drop inside her. Braxton gasps for air as he comes undone. His cock is still twitching inside her, trying to ride the wave of his orgasm, when her sweet opening flutters around him. All her muscles seize up for a second as a lightning of pleasure travels through her body.
Holding her jaw, he keeps his mouth open against her lips as his breathing catches and the room suddenly goes quiet below the sound of their shared pants. His stomach presses softly on hers, as he lays completely limp and flat on top of her. If someone were to attack right now, he wouldn't be able to even pick up his gun to defend himself or even stand up. He can think of a million ways worse to die than this, to be honest. Given the opportunity, if he had to choose a way to go, this would be it – post-orgasm, still tucked inside the fine depth of her tender walls, as her fingers softly comb the damp hairs at his nape.

(Got amputation on a whump wheel and chose Leo)
Leo rolled out of bed with a groan, stumbling a bit as his balance was briefly thrown off. He was still getting used to this.
His arm lay in ist capsule, disconnected and sitting pretty like a Halloween decoration. He hated looking at it.
He used to be the weak one, but now, with his arm off and a metal hole where his bionic arm was made to slot in, he felt weakest of all. He was back home again, never quite able to be away from his mom for too long. Janelle liked the visits too, growing up into a firecracker of a lady and studying engineering at the local college. He’d always wanted to be cool for her, but he was a bit of a trophy boyfriend these days.
He made his way to the kitchen, his left arm habitually opening doors as his stump hung uselessly. The right arm was too powerful anyways when it was connected, so he’d taught himself to be left handed. He still slipped up sometimes away from the reinforced walls and doorknobs of the island, but he was getting better at it.
He found his way easily in the dark, familiar with the house as he pulled a glass from the cabinet.
“Leo?” Light filled the room, his mother standing in the doorway in her robe. Her baby belly was barely showing, but he found that he noticed it every day. A reminder he’d have a little sibling, one he swore to keep safe from their crazy life. Was this how his mom had felt when he started going on missions?
He was startled by a cry from his mom, a hiccuping sob that she tried to cover with his hands. The glass slipped from his weak fingers, exploding on the floor.
“Mom? Are you okay? Is it the baby? Do I need to call Davenport?” He asked in a flurry, watching her shake her head while tears began to escape her eyes. She took a step forward and he held his arm out to stop her. “Mom, there’s glass, stop there!”
She didn’t respond, just staring with her hand over her mouth. He followed her gaze, right to his stump.
Oh.
“It’s okay mom, it’s okay.” He tried to assure her, stepping away from the mess to reach out and touch her. It felt safer, hugging her without fear of crushing her. He missed being able to hold her with both arms and squeeze, the way she used to groan dramatically as if he was the strongest kid in the world instead of a stringbean little punk.
“I-“ She attempted to speak, swallowing. “I’d never seen it off before. I didn’t realize…”She held him, pressing her teary face into the crook of his neck. When he’d she gotten so small? When had he gotten so big?
“My baby. My baby.” She repeated, one hand around her boy and the other on her small bump. It made his chest ache, hearing his mother cry. She never cried, said there were always better things to do than cry. She used to tell him she cried to say he was born and when he got his first shots, but he’d never seen her cry in front of him in all his years. It felt wrong. He was the emotional little kid who would run to her and son into her chest. She was the strong woman who wiped his tears.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for everything.” She whispered, squeezing his hand.
“Mom, you have nothing to be sorry for.” He tried to assure her. “This wasn’t your fault, none of it. I just got hurt, it happens. I’ve got training now, it won’t happen again. It’ll be okay.” He just spoke in a stream of consciousness, word vomit that seemed to help. Her little sobs died down, hands frantically wiping away the traitorous tears.
“I’m your mother Leo, I’ll always feel responsible for you, no matter what you do, or how old you get. It’s my job.” He wisely didn’t mention the birthdays she missed for reporting or all the times she forgot to pick him up from school. It didn’t really matter now, she’d been a good mom, taken care of him after his dad died. He loved her.
“I’m okay.” He promised through the phantom pains and nightmares. He’d try and remember to wear it when he left his room, to hide the reminder. Just because he’d gotten used to the sight doesn’t mean the rest would.
“Just be careful baby.” She pressed a kiss to his head, standing to get the broom as she gathered herself together, shooing him away when he tried to help.
He promised he would, going back to his room to hopefully sleep. He’d be heading back to the island tomorrow.
-
A week later, Mr, Davenport built the space elevator.

L.S. Dunes: Travis Stever’s yang to Frank Iero’s yin
Words by Ellie Robinson Photo by Mark Beemer November 17, 2022
Travis Stever talks a lot.
That’s not an insult – the 43-year-old New Jerseyan just has a lot to say, and virtually all of it is fantastic. He’s impressively storied: most would know him as the lead guitarist in Coheed And Cambria, but he’s popped his head through many a musical window over some three decades: side-projects include Fire Deuce, The English Panther, Davenport Cabinet and Zero Trust (per Wikipedia, but I’m certain there’s more out there), and he also played lap-steel on My Brother’s Blood Machine, the 2006 debut from The Prize Fighter Inferno, the solo folktronica project of Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez.
Stever’s latest project is L.S. Dunes, a post-hardcore supergroup* I can only accurately describe as “every mid-to-late 2000s emo fan’s wildest pipe-dream come true”. Stever plays guitar alongside Frank Iero (of My Chemical Romance, and his own mountain of side-projects), while Anthony Green (Circa Survive, Saosin) sings, Tim Payne (Thursday) plays bass, and Tucker Rule (also Thursday, but for a short time, Yellowcard too) plays drums. I write “supergroup” with an asterisk because although L.S. Dunes are a supergroup, etymologically, when I interviewed Stever for Australian Guitar #151, he fucking hated that I called them one.
Nevertheless, we got along like a house on fire, and I had a blast chatting with him about his new band and their debut album, Past Lives (out now on Fantasy Records). It was hard not to be engaged with everything he said: watching him wax lyrical about his impenetrable love for music, even over Zoom with our video link presenting him at approximately three pixels per inch, the glimmer in his eyes and wideness of his smile made it clear, Stever is living his dream. He’s just a kid that fell in love with rock ‘n’ roll, started jamming out for the hell of it – not to make bank, but simply because it was fun – and somewhere along the way, wound up turning it into his full-time gig (no pun intended).
It doesn’t seem to have gotten any less fun for him since then, either. Usually artists with careers as weighty as his appear at least a little burnt out on the music industry. You can tell when someone’s passion is genuine, and Stever’s certainly is.
The proof in the pudding, for me, was just how goddamn much Stever had to say about any and every topic. Our interview in Australian Guitar #151, spanning five questions across a hair over 1,000 words, was cut down from a transcript about four times as long. His unedited answers to those questions ran a solid 600-850 words apiece – well over 1,000 for the first – and there were still a few topics that we had to shave off for page space. One of those was actually my favourite from the entire chat: the creative chemistry that L.S. Dunes unlocked between Stever and Iero.
I opted not to run with that in the printed story because what did make it to the page is a lot more relevant to the origin story of L.S. Dunes and how that led to Past Lives shaping up in the way it did – which is ultimately the story I wanted to centre. But I think what Stever said about his creative dynamic with Iero – and how they each pushed the other to venture outside their comfort zones – adds a lot to the narrative surrounding L.S. Dunes. It also adds a twinge of contextual colour to songs like ‘Blender’ and ‘Sleep Cult’, which makes for a more gratifying listen when you really stop to soak in and digest Past Lives.
Ultimately, I think one of the coolest things about the “supergroup” concept is how idiosyncrasy can germinate when two artists of similar mind collaborate. Both Stever and Iero come from backgrounds of punk, rock and post-hardcore – even if their writing and playing styles are quite dissimilar – but when they joined forces to form L.S. Dunes, they started writing music that neither ever thought they would. And that’s so fucking cool.
So below is Stever’s commentary on his chemistry with Iero, as well as a couple of other offcuts from my interview with him. I’ve included those as well because at a base level, as a fan of music at the end of the day, I love reading about my favourite artists’ plans for the future – even if they never come to fruition – and about how they feel in the lead-up to a major release. I know that latter topic is now entirely irrelevant, because Past Lives came out a week ago, but, like, fuck it, it’s my blog, I make the rules.
You should read the Australian Guitar piece before you hit the jump, because it offers some solid context on exactly what L.S. Dunes is, how their collective ethos plays into everything, and why Stever and I were even talking to each other in the first place – and because the latter two of the three questions here were asked after the ones printed in AG, and some lines might be a bit confusing without that context.
So we’re about a month away from getting our hands on Past Lives. How does it feel to be here in the home stretch? You know, you’re always going to feel a little on edge when you’re about to release something that you poured your heart and soul into, no matter how much you believe in it. It’s exciting, but at the same time, you can feel the the vibes of danger – the danger of exposing the art that you created with your brothers, you know? And knowing that people are going to judge it. But that’s the gig, right. That’s the game. You know people are going to receive it however they choose to – but I’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback from everybody I’ve showed it to, so that’s a good sign!
Being the two guitarists in L.S. Dunes, how did you and Frank coalesce in the creative process? It goes back to what I was saying before, how there was no expectation. It’s really intriguing, because we communicate with each other through the guitars. And we were doing it over streams, online, through email [and] text – and we just knew, as soon as we started sending each other ideas, that it was going to work. And then, you know, it was just as relieving to get into an actual room together and be able to know that the spark was there [in real life], too.
I’ve got to be honest, after working with Frank [on this record], I had to go back and revisit a lot of the things he did in My Chem, and even a lot of his solo stuff – not that I didn’t fully respect everything he does before, but you know, after you see a person in a new light, you understand their musical language more. And I am so honoured to be in this band with him. He comes up with these riffs that are completely different from anything I’ve ever heard before. They’re all over the map – because you can say, “Oh, he comes up with these, really awesome, like, edgy punk riffs,” but that’s not true.
There’s a song at the end of the album that he wrote, ‘Sleep Cult’, where Anthony’s vocals almost have a doo-wop kind of feel. Frank had written that chord progression – that fingerpicking kind of thing – and I heard it while I was working on other guitars; we were in pre-production, getting ready to go over to Will Yip’s, and it was at the end of the session, we’d been working all day, and all of a sudden, he started playing this really beautiful chord progression. And so we recorded that, just as a rough little idea, but we wound up rolling with it. I just added some lap steel and some really delicate chords to it, just to give it a little nuance.
There are numerous parts on the album like that, which I think are probably the best parts of it. Another one that started out with Frank – which is probably my favourite [track] on the album right now – is ‘Blender’. I don’t want to get too dorky about it, but you know, that song is a really good example of what it was like to work with him. I sent him the guitar parts, and he really liked them – I think he was already fine and excited with everything I’d laid down… Because you know, that can always be a touchy thing. I mean, he pretty much had a hole-in-one with the ideas I would send him, and I always loved what he was playing – but I was open to him switching whatever he wanted.
In this case, I had written all the guitars that I was going to play, which was based on what he was playing and what Tim was playing. There were no vocals yet. And I’m so glad that we took our time with that song, because at the very last minute, I just switched it up completely, and I wound up harmonising a lot of the guitars [Frank] was playing instead. It was a completely different approach. That’s one of the things I loved about working on this record – the amount of time we were able to take to really think about it.
I’m not going to speak for Frank, but I think he was probably able to step out of his comfort zone [on this record]. Because there’s things he played on it where someone would probably be like, “Wow, I’ve never heard him play like that!” And for me, that feels really special because I got to [work with him] on those songs. And the same goes for me – there are a lot of [parts] on the record that are very different to [the parts] I would usually write.
We’ve already gone way over time, but I want to wrap up by looking to the future: what are your plans for Australia, and what’s the vibe on a second L.S. Dunes album? Believe me, we want to tour everywhere we can. I can only hope that we’re able to bring [L.S. Dunes] over to Australia – that would be amazing. As for other material… I mean, like I said, there’s just been an endless flow of material. There’s no shortage of stuff that we’ve been sending back and forth, and we already have a lot of surprises up our sleeves. But I just want to pay my respects to the album we’ve already created before we move on to the next thing, you know? I think it’s important that we get out there and show people what we can do on the live end… When everybody’s able to! And if we were able to bring that over there to Australia… I mean, yeah, of course we will!

Past Lives by L.S. Dunes is out now via Fantasy Records – click here to check it out. The print edition of Australian Guitar #151 is out on November 28th – keep an eye out for that here.

By Coral Davenport and Lisa Friedman
President-elect Donald J. Trump announced on Monday that he will nominate former Rep. Lee Zeldin, Republican of New York, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, a position that is expected to be central to Mr. Trump’s plans to dismantle landmark climate regulations.
Mr. Trump campaigned on pledges to “kill” and “cancel” E.P.A. rules and regulations to combat global warming by restricting fossil fuel pollution from vehicle tailpipes, power plant smokestacks and oil and gas wells.
In particular, Mr. Trump wants to erase the Biden administration’s most significant climate rule, which is designed to speed a transition away from gasoline-powered cars and toward electric vehicles.
A former congressman from Long Island who ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2022, Mr. Zeldin, 44, is an avid Trump supporter who voted against certifying the results of the 2020 election.
“It is an honor to join President Trump’s Cabinet as EPA Administrator,” Mr. Zeldin wrote on X. “We will restore US energy dominance, revitalize our auto industry to bring back American jobs, and make the US the global leader of AI. We will do so while protecting access to clean air and water.”
In a statement, Mr. Trump said Mr. Zeldin would “ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions that will be enacted in a way to unleash the power of American businesses, while at the same time maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet.”
Mr. Trump added that Mr. Zeldin would “set new standards on environmental review and maintenance that will allow the United States to grow in a healthy and well-structured way.”
Perhaps more than many other federal agencies, the E.P.A. has been a particular target for Mr. Trump, who blames environmental regulations for hampering a variety of industries, including construction and oil and gas drilling. During his first term, Mr. Trump rolled back more than 100 environmental policies and regulations. President Biden restored many of them and strengthened several.
Some people on Mr. Trump’s transition team say the agency needs a wholesale makeover and are even discussing moving the E.P.A. headquarters and its 7,000 workers out of Washington, D.C., according to multiple people involved in the discussions who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the transition.
Michael McKenna, who worked in the first Trump administration on energy issues, said that as two New Yorkers, Mr. Trump and Mr. Zeldin “speak the same language.” He also said Mr. Zeldin’s experience as an Army reservist would make him adept at navigating bureaucracies.
“Lee Zeldin is a great pick,” said Mandy Gunasekara, who served as chief of staff at the E.P.A. under the first Trump administration. She wrote a section on the E.P.A. for Project 2025, the conservative blueprint for re-engineering the federal government. In it, she recommends slashing the E.P.A.’s budget, ousting career staff, eliminating scientific advisers that review the agency’s work and closing programs that focus on minority communities with heavily polluted air and water.
Others, including some close to the Trump transition team, were baffled by the choice. Mr. Zeldin has not been known for showing a particular interest in the E.P.A. And Mr. Trump has tended to select agency heads from regulated industries; he put Andrew Wheeler, a coal lobbyist, in charge of the E.P.A. during his first term.
Mr. Zeldin’s record on climate policy appears to be mixed, especially during his years representing a swath of the East End of Long Island that includes hundreds of miles of coastline and a bipartisan tradition of environmental conservation.
He was a member of the House’s Bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus and earned a 14 percent lifetime score from the League of Conservation Voters, an environmental group. It is a low mark from the environmental advocacy group, but it was nevertheless higher than nearly any other Republican.
Tiernan Sittenfeld, the senior vice president of government affairs for the League of Conservation Voters, wrote in an email that Mr. Zeldin’s score “is obviously not what you would hope to see from the person who could be in charge of protecting the air we breathe, the water we drink and combating the climate crisis.”
Although he boasted about securing federal funds for the E.P.A.’s Long Island Sound program, Mr. Zeldin voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, the 2022 climate law that has pumped at least $370 billion into clean energy and electric vehicles.
When Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York criticized Mr. Zeldin for opposing the climate law, he responded on social media, saying “I just voted NO because the bill sucks.”
“Being that it raises taxes, adds 87,000 new IRS agents, & spends hundreds of billions of dollars our country doesn’t have on far-left policies our country can’t afford, I’m not surprised you’d blindly endorse it,” he wrote.
During Mr. Zeldin’s tenure in the House, he voted against clean water legislation at least a dozen times, and clean air legislation at least half a dozen times, according to the League of Conservation Voters scorecard.
His record includes a vote against an amendment to a defense bill that would have created a climate resilience office inside the White House; for legislation that would have withdrawn the United States from the treaty enabling global climate negotiations; and for an amendment that would have blocked the federal government from considering the economic damage of climate change when it makes policies.
Mr. Zeldin has also taken some votes that the group supported, including prohibiting oil and gas drilling off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. He also voted in favor of a landmark conservation bill that passed with bipartisan support and was signed by Mr. Trump. It guarantees maximum annual funding for a federal program to acquire and preserve land for public use.
He voted for a bill that would require the E.P.A. to set limits on PFAS, which are a family of man-made chemicals that are persistent in the environment and the human body. The E.P.A. under the Biden administration has set strict limits on the chemicals in drinking water. In 2020, he voted against legislation that would have slashed E.P.A.’s budget.
During his run for governor, Mr. Zeldin pledged to reverse New York’s 2015 ban on hydraulic fracturing, a technique for recovering gas and oil from shale rock that environmental advocates say can contaminate groundwater. He also called for construction of more gas pipelines and a suspension of the state gas tax.
He has not spoken at length about whether he accepts the established science of climate change. But in a 2014 interview with the Newsday editorial board he expressed doubts about the severity of the problem.
“It would be productive if we could get to what is real and what is not real,” he said. “I’m not sold yet on the whole argument that we have as serious a problem as other people are.”

Davenport Rope Tie Magic Trick
Davenport Rope Tie Magic Trick. This classic rope escape trick, known as the “Davenport Rope Tie,” involves a seemingly impossible escape and re-tie within a closed cabinet. The trick combines misdirection and hidden manoeuvres to create the illusion that the performer can escape from tightly bound wrists and return to the original position in seconds. This is a gorgeous historic 1917 home in Omaha, NE, but there's something about it that would make me feel "uncomfortable" about being there at night. 10bds, 7ba, $1.5M.
Not a bad entrance hall, and it's all original. The house is original, all the wood is the same, dark stain, not painted over.
Very formal sitting room.
Plus a sunny parlor.
The dining room is right off the main hall. They cleverly incorporated gray in the carpets, fabrics and wall coverings. I guess it's not as bad as solid gray, but everyone seems compelled to use gray in order to sell. Lovely light fixture looks original.
Lots of cabinets in the very white kitchen. $1.5M and the counters are laminate. Gray tile backsplash.
It's an eat-in kitchen with room for a table.
There's a nice big pantry. Odd, that they would put quartz counters in the pantry and not the kitchen.
Guest powder room behind the stairs in the main hall. Cute and vintage.
Lovely original millwork.
Sitting room w/a rooftop terrace.
There's a full bath off the sitting room.
Now, we're getting into solid gray walls in the bedrooms. I am so over this gray nonsense.
This one has an amazing enclosed wall of shelves.
The primary bedroom has a beautiful fireplace and moldings. All gray though, and I doubt if that was the color of the period.
The en-suite has lovely marble.
They made this small room with a door to the terrace, a dressing room.
The attic is finished with more bedrooms.
Full bath up here w/a cute little tub.
.70 acre lot and there's an apt. above the garage (carriage house).
It's a very nice 2 bd. apt.
Beautifully preserved historic home in modern gray.

The following are some common mistakes that should be avoided so that you only get the best results when dealing with kitchen remodeling Davenport.
[1] Ignoring Your Workflow
Every kitchen has ‘their’ flow – the route you follow when cooking. When choosing a layout for your kitchen remodeling, think about how you navigate the kitchen. Is the refrigerator located too far from the stove? Are the distances between the countertops from the sink to the preparation zone? A bad planning layout could be a source of frustration by hindering efficiency. Consider how you move around in your kitchen and plan a format based on current cooking behaviors.
[2] Underestimating Storage Needs
It is common for kitchens to become jumbled up with miscellaneous items. To overcome this during your kitchen remodeling Davenport, ensure that you incorporate enough efficient storage areas. Ensure that you use cabinets and drawers as well as a pantry that will be unique in storing all kitchen requirements. It is also wise to add organizers inside the cabinets and the drawers to make it easy to search or organize the items.
[3] Leaving Out Lighting
Establishing good lighting is significant as far as functionality and aesthetic appearances of the cooking area is concerned. It is crucial to take advantage of the chance of the remodeling and modify the type of light that is being used.
