This is a very interesting home. Built in 1895 in Davenport, IA, the architecture is superb. 8bds, 8ba, 4,124 sq ft, $399,900.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The foyer is interesting, as soon as you step inside. Look at the built-in hall tree on the left, and that has to be an original light fixture.
Tumblr media
An oversized wide door opens directly to the living room. Look at the inlaid floor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've never seen such an unusual layout. This is a living room with a semi-enclosed staircase and a hall along the side. The stairs have a built-in bench and note the pocket doors on the right.
Tumblr media
Down the hall behind the stairs, there's a guest powder room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dining room is amazing. Look at the fireplace- beautifully carved wood and bright blue tile. Plus, there's a built-in China cabinet. And the wallpaper mural is lovely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think that we can all agree that the kitchen remodel fits nicely. The wood matches, they left the fireplace, and there's a stained glass window. The granite counters fit much better than if they were stark white, but I don't care for the color of the ceiling.
Tumblr media
Love the copper double farm sink and the backsplash.
Tumblr media
Original pantry. This is wonderful.
Tumblr media
Cute little breakfast room/every day dining room.
Tumblr media
Next to the dining room there's a lovely pastel blue family room.
Tumblr media
Look at how delicately carved the spindles are, and there's the beautiful bronze statue on the newel post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow. Fancy primary bedroom. I like the paint and fireplace, but there's a little too much fabric for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a very nice room. I like the ceilings in the bedrooms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rounded wall with a pretty sink in the room.
Tumblr media
There are more bedrooms in the finished attic.
Tumblr media
Plus 3 modern baths up here, also.
Tumblr media
The back of the house is nicer than the front- look at the beautiful round porch.
Tumblr media
There's a large, shady yard. I like the lattice, too.
Tumblr media
This rusty little gazebo has so much charm.
Tumblr media
.28 acre lot.

These stories are my own, so please do not take them and use them for yourself without my permission. If you see them somewhere else, please let me know. :)
A fresh layer of snow fell overnight, and the temps had fallen into the low thirties. You took a pic and sent it to Jake. ‘Fresh snow and cold temps this morning. Wish you were next to me keeping me warm.’
You get dressed for work, even though you were going to court. You wore long underwear under your khaki 5.11 cargo pants, long sleeve dark green DNR shirt and black winter work boots. You buckled your black duty belt and strapped your leg holster around your right leg as you walked into your office and into the closet. There you walked to your steel gun cabinet, typed in the code to open it and too out your .45 Glock 21. You secured your Glock in your leg holster and placed your two spare magazines on your bullet proof vest. The magazine you used in your Glock was out in your work truck along with your shot gun and rifle. You tried not to have loaded weapons around Christian.
You secured your gun safe, grabbed your vest, walked out of the closet and headed to the kitchen where Christian sat in his highchair eating breakfast with Montgomery.
“Thank you, Montgomery.”
“It’s no problem, Doctor. Miss Abigail deserves a vacation.”
You look at him. “You know, you’re welcome to take a vacation too.”
“Doctor. You and Christian are the only family I have.”
You nod understandingly as you place your vest on the back of the kitchen bar char and walk over to Christian in the highchair. “You behave for Montgomery.”
“Gumree,” Christian repeats as he stuffs his mouth with toast, and you kiss his forehead.
You grab your winter DNR coat and put it on along with your beanie hat. You grab your vest off of the chair. “I’m not sure when I’ll be home. I’m even afraid to see my desk.”
“No worries. We’ll be okay.”
“Okay. See you guys later. Love you, C.J.” You blow Christian a kiss.
“Lub you, Mommy.” Chrisitan blows you a kiss back.
You walk to the mudroom that led to the garage.

Judge Arnold Krawczak looked at his watch from his bench as you and Whitaker sat behind the attorney table to the right of the judge’s bench.
“I’ll give them five more…” Judge Krawczak stopped as the doors to the courtroom opened.
Celine walked behind two attorneys. Dressed as though she was a movie star from Hollywood.
“We apologize, Your Honor,” the attorney dressed in the gray suit said as they got behind the other attorney’s desk. “Traffic was horrendous!”
Judge Krawczak raised an eyebrow quizzically along with you and Mr. Whitaker.
“Mister…?”
“Attorney Nathan Crawley and Attorney Justin Dodge, Your Honor.”
You and Whitaker looked at each other.
“Mister Crawly, let’s get this started since you’ve already waisted 10 minutes of my morning.”
“Yes, Your Honor.” He opened his briefcase and took out some papers. “We’re here to contest the restraining order Mrs. Y/N Astor has placed on Ms. Celine Astor-Davenport.”
Whitaker stood up and cleared his throat. “Excuse me, Your Honor. My client’s name is Doctor Y/N Astor. As of Wednesday, last week, it’s Doctor Y/N Astor-Seresin or Doctor Y/N Seresin. She deserves that respect.”
“Agreed. She will be addressed as such.”
Celine’s attorney glared at her, and she just shrugged.
“Again, I apologize, Your Honor.” He paused. “We’re here to contest the restraining order Doctor Y/N Astor-Seresin placed on my client, Celine Astor-Davenport. We’re also contesting the marriage.”
Judge Krawczak sighed. “Let’s start with the restraining order.”
“Christian Astor Junior is Mrs. Astor-Davenport’s only grandchild. She has the right to see her only grandchild.”
“Agreed. Mr. Whitaker?”
“We also agree, Your Honor, but supervised. Per the contract Christian Astor and Charles Astor left behind, Mrs. Astor-Davenport cannot be trusted.”
“I object, Your Honor!” Crawley intejected.
“Mr. Whitaker, please explain?”
“Due to Christian Junior being the sole heir to the Astor fortune, Mrs. Astor-Davenport cannot be trusted due to financial issues. Both Christian and Charles expressed that in their Wills. Hence why we recommend supervised visitation.”
Judge Krawczak leaned back in his chair, pinching the bridge of his nose before addressing the room. "Mr. Whitaker, are these financial concerns outlined in the documentation provided by Mr. Astor?"
“Yes, Your Honor,” Whitaker replied confidently. He retrieved a folder from his briefcase, pulling out a document. “The financial mismanagement and repeated attempts to access funds in the past are well-documented. This was one of the key reasons both men stipulated supervised visitation as a condition.”
Crawley stood abruptly. “Your Honor, this is irrelevant. Mrs. Astor-Davenport has a right to spend time with her grandchild, and bringing up unrelated financial matters serves only to paint her in a negative light.”
Judge Krawczak raised a hand, silencing Crawley. “Mr. Crawley, I’ll decide what’s relevant. Sit down.”
Crawley hesitated before reluctantly taking his seat.
The judge turned back to Whitaker. “Is there any evidence that Mrs. Astor-Davenport has attempted to interfere financially since the passing of Mr. Astor and Mr. Davenport?”
Whitaker nodded. “Yes, Your Honor. Following Mr. Astor’s passing, Mrs. Astor-Davenport attempted to challenge the terms of his will, specifically regarding the trust established for Christian Junior. The challenge was dismissed, but it highlights a concerning pattern.”
Crawley was on his feet again. “Your Honor, these accusations are speculative at best. Mrs. Astor-Davenport’s intentions are purely familial.”
“Sit down, Mr. Crawley,” Judge Krawczak said sternly. “I’ll review the evidence myself.”
You took a steady breath, meeting the judge’s gaze. “Your Honor, I want Christian to have a relationship with his grandmother, but I also want to honor his father’s wishes. Christian’s safety and well-being are my top priorities. Christian Senior wouldn't have put what he did in his Will unless he had a reason."
The judge nodded thoughtfully, his gaze shifting between the two parties. “After reading the Will, I agree. Christian Senior was very thorough in his Will.”
“What!?” Celine scoffed loudly.
“Mrs. Astor-Davenport. Another outburst and you’ll be held in contempt.” Judge Krawczak looked at Attorney Crawley. “Next subject.”
“Uhm, we’re contesting her current marriage.”
The courtroom fell silent for a moment as Crawley’s statement hung in the air. You exchanged a quick, bewildered glance with Whitaker, who remained calm and composed, though his grip on his pen tightened slightly.
Judge Krawczak raised an eyebrow, his tone incredulous. “You’re contesting her current marriage? On what grounds, Mr. Crawley?”
Crawley adjusted his tie, feigning confidence. “Your Honor, we believe Mrs. Seresin’s marriage to Lieutenant Jacob Seresin may not be in the best interests of Christian Junior. It is our position that her husband’s military career poses potential instability and danger to the child’s upbringing.”
A murmur rippled through the courtroom before Judge Krawczak’s gavel came down sharply. “Order in the court!” He turned a sharp gaze to Crawley. “Let me be clear—this court does not take lightly to baseless attacks on someone’s character or career. If you have evidence to support your claim, present it. Otherwise, I suggest you move on.”
Whitaker stood, his voice measured but firm. “Your Honor, this is nothing more than a desperate attempt to discredit my client and undermine her role as Christian Junior’s mother. Lieutenant Seresin’s career is entirely irrelevant to these proceedings. In fact, his service to our country should be commended, not used as a weapon in a courtroom.”
Crawley cleared his throat, visibly uncomfortable under the judge’s scrutinizing gaze. “Your Honor, we believe the Lieutenant’s frequent deployments and the inherent dangers of his profession may result in an unstable home environment.”
Judge Krawczak looked unimpressed. “Do you have any evidence that Mrs. Seresin’s marriage has negatively impacted her son’s well-being?”
“Well—no, Your Honor, but—”
"And if I recall correctly, Christian Astor Senior was a helicopter pilot in the Army. Would you be challenging that if he were still alive?"
The courtroom fell silent once again, the weight of Judge Krawczak’s pointed question pressing down on Crawley. His mouth opened and closed like a fish gasping for air, searching for an appropriate response but finding none.
Whitaker seized the moment, his voice calm but laced with conviction. “Your Honor, the hypocrisy in this argument cannot be overstated. My client’s late husband, Christian Astor Senior, served honorably in the Army as a helicopter pilot, a profession no less demanding or dangerous than that of Lieutenant Seresin. Yet, no one questioned his ability to provide a stable home for his son.”
You could see Crawley shrinking slightly in his seat, his confidence visibly eroding under Whitaker’s steady argument and the judge’s piercing gaze.
Judge Krawczak leaned forward, his tone firm. “Mr. Crawley, this court has no tolerance for double standards or unfounded accusations. Unless you have credible evidence that Lieutenant Seresin’s career is detrimental to the child’s upbringing—and I mean substantial, not speculative—I suggest you reconsider your approach. I’ll ask you again: would you be making this argument if Christian Astor Senior were alive and in this courtroom today?”
Crawley stammered, “No, Your Honor, we would not.”
The judge’s expression hardened. “Then this line of reasoning is dismissed. Focus your arguments on matters relevant to the child’s well-being, not baseless conjecture about his stepfather’s career. Is that clear?”
“Yes, Your Honor,” Crawley muttered, sinking into his chair.
Whitaker gave you a reassuring glance, and you felt a flicker of triumph. The judge’s firm stance had shifted the tide in your favor, making it clear that these proceedings would not be derailed by underhanded tactics.
Judge Krawczak sighed. “Mr. Crawly. Doctor Astor-Seresin is an adult. According to her previous marriage, she knew Christian Astor only three days before they eloped and were married for 3 years. I trust Doctor Astor-Seresin’s judgement. Let’s get real, Mr. Crawley.” Judge Krawczak looked at both attorneys. “If that is all, court is adjourned.” He beat his gavel, stood up and walked to his chambers.
Celine glared at you. “This isn’t over.” She walked away with her attorneys.
Whitaker shook his head as he watched Celine walk away. “That woman.” He looks at you. “Come on, Y/N. Let’s get out of here.”
You leave the courthouse and go out to your work truck where you open the door and get in. Your phone dings that you got a text and you look at it after you start the engine.
'Me too, Darlin,’ Jake responded.
You started your truck and headed to work.

I Think The Sharpes' China Is Diagetically Davenport Imari 2614 And Not Royal Crown Derby Imari 2451 And Here's Why
the earliest examples of the RCD pattern I've seen are early 1900s, though apparently they started making it in 1887. seems unlikely that the adult siblings could afford a new, large china set
but. look at what Davenport was doing as early as 1870:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's the same. Pattern.
I know this pattern. I have spent a truly deranged amount of time staring at this pattern. I have a whole-ass tea set in this pattern approx. three yards from me in a glass-fronted cabinet at this very moment. and this is the exact same pattern, but being made (it seems to me) at least 17 years before RCD started doing it. oh, and Davenport closed its doors in 1887- the same year the RCD Imari 2451 apparently hit the market
the movie props are RCD, to be sure. I know this because I have one- a cup and saucer set from Cynthia Finlay's Antiques in Toronto, who rented the china out to the CPeak production team. but I believe that, in-story, it's actually the Davenport
thank you for coming to my "Marzi, go to bed" TED Talk

Walking through the picturesque streets of Cardinal Hill, you find Langston ‘Jules’ Davenport, the 32 year old Arcade Technician/Assistant Manager originally from Cardinal Hill. Living alongside them in such a small town, you know that they're blasé and off-putting, but what you might not know is that they are a human, and that they’re hiding something… ― Robert Pattinson, bisexual, male, and he/him.
-Content Warnings: Drug use, homelessness, sex
Cover art, credits, and special thanks:
Full name: Langston ‘Jules’ John Davenport
Nickname: Jules, most don’t even know his real name
Gender: Male
Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 32
Birthday: June 14th, 1958
Zodiac: Gemini
Sexuality: Bisexual
Magic: Human
Occupation: Arcade Assistant Manager/Technician, Lead vocalist/guitarist of 302.75
Side A, the single, what you’re here for.
Born in 1958 as Langston, the Davenport family held no grand renown in Cardinal Hill. His mother was a housewife, his father was a builder, and he was an only child. Jules’ family dynamic was relatively normal in his eyes.
His father spent his days in two ways, working, or having a drink while tinkering with electronics in his garage. Jules spent a lot of the time helping him, holding the torch, passing the screwdriver. While his time along side his father wasn’t his ideal way of spending his time, he did manage to learn a lot, and electronics became a big passion for him.
This interest led to him experimenting without his fathers supervision, specifically at school. He took this interest into practice, testing out the wattage of a school wall socket with a pair of scissors. It turned out it was quite high for a child without any insulation. The fire was quite startling as well.
Ever since that incident, people around him started to call him Joules, which had eventually just turned into Jules as more people knew him by that name than otherwise. It never bothered him, he actually thought it was pretty cool, so that has become his name, with only people close to him knowing his real name.
He was always extremely passionate in music, the heavier the better. As the metal scene started to form, he naturally delved deep into the basements to watch any and all concerts he could. He would build his own instruments, amps, and other equipment, and taught himself everything he knew.
Jules never got far in highschool, dropping out before he graduated, but he hardly paid attention for the days he went either way, so it felt inevitable. When his parents learnt of this decision, they gave him the ultimatum to either go back and graduate, or leave. He took the latter option.
He lived out of his car for a couple of weeks, got a job at the arcade as an attendant, and eventually found a place to live. The basement of the house was owned by a particularly nice lady he had met. He still lives there to this day, paying way too little rent than what she should be charging him.
Jules’ job at the arcade was nothing special, but his manager's constant frustrations at having to call in someone from the city every time a machine broke inspired him to learn the trade. Wielding just the manual and a screwdriver he later regretted using for its capacity to destroy the heads of the screws, he managed to slog his way through his tasks. He, eventually, became quite proficient in repairing the cabinets, and stuck around long enough to get promoted to assistant manager.
Side B, the extra, you’re personal favourite song that will never be on the setlist:
He is regularly seen with Jenny Wake, his best friend he met several years ago. They live together, go to shows together, work together, perform together, as well as much more.
Being in the local metal scene has naturally lead to him being in and out of countless bands throughout the years, none being of any real success. Several years ago, he was in a band with a now founding member of Wrathchild, a popular local band. Some fiery disagreements, both creative and personal, led to Jules’ most recent and most successful band 302.75 to be very openly a rival to Wrathchild.
The lineup of 302.75 is currently just Jules and Jenny, willing to change under extraordinary circumstances, or messianic prophecy fulfilment. The music they play is heavy metal, but compared to Wrathchild, it is more on the heavy side than the metal side, preferring slower, doomier tunes. Some say a much harsher tone, but Jules would just say it requires a more refined taste.
While Jules is hardly incompetent in his role at the arcade, there was a small drama about the circumstances of which the role was opened up to him. Rumours circulating about possible fraud, framing, and thievery with the previous assistant manager. It is all just rumours of course, and they left the store under mutual circumstances. No need to pay any heed to it.
Jules’ lifestyle is the epitome of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll. His habit of a different person and pill a night has died down in recent years, he is still more often high than sober. Jules is definitely the person you seek out if you want a good time, and are ignorant of what Jules considers a good time. Or maybe you’re completely aware, you dirty dog.

(Got amputation on a whump wheel and chose Leo)
Leo rolled out of bed with a groan, stumbling a bit as his balance was briefly thrown off. He was still getting used to this.
His arm lay in ist capsule, disconnected and sitting pretty like a Halloween decoration. He hated looking at it.
He used to be the weak one, but now, with his arm off and a metal hole where his bionic arm was made to slot in, he felt weakest of all. He was back home again, never quite able to be away from his mom for too long. Janelle liked the visits too, growing up into a firecracker of a lady and studying engineering at the local college. He’d always wanted to be cool for her, but he was a bit of a trophy boyfriend these days.
He made his way to the kitchen, his left arm habitually opening doors as his stump hung uselessly. The right arm was too powerful anyways when it was connected, so he’d taught himself to be left handed. He still slipped up sometimes away from the reinforced walls and doorknobs of the island, but he was getting better at it.
He found his way easily in the dark, familiar with the house as he pulled a glass from the cabinet.
“Leo?” Light filled the room, his mother standing in the doorway in her robe. Her baby belly was barely showing, but he found that he noticed it every day. A reminder he’d have a little sibling, one he swore to keep safe from their crazy life. Was this how his mom had felt when he started going on missions?
He was startled by a cry from his mom, a hiccuping sob that she tried to cover with his hands. The glass slipped from his weak fingers, exploding on the floor.
“Mom? Are you okay? Is it the baby? Do I need to call Davenport?” He asked in a flurry, watching her shake her head while tears began to escape her eyes. She took a step forward and he held his arm out to stop her. “Mom, there’s glass, stop there!”
She didn’t respond, just staring with her hand over her mouth. He followed her gaze, right to his stump.
Oh.
“It’s okay mom, it’s okay.” He tried to assure her, stepping away from the mess to reach out and touch her. It felt safer, hugging her without fear of crushing her. He missed being able to hold her with both arms and squeeze, the way she used to groan dramatically as if he was the strongest kid in the world instead of a stringbean little punk.
“I-“ She attempted to speak, swallowing. “I’d never seen it off before. I didn’t realize…”She held him, pressing her teary face into the crook of his neck. When he’d she gotten so small? When had he gotten so big?
“My baby. My baby.” She repeated, one hand around her boy and the other on her small bump. It made his chest ache, hearing his mother cry. She never cried, said there were always better things to do than cry. She used to tell him she cried to say he was born and when he got his first shots, but he’d never seen her cry in front of him in all his years. It felt wrong. He was the emotional little kid who would run to her and son into her chest. She was the strong woman who wiped his tears.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for everything.” She whispered, squeezing his hand.
“Mom, you have nothing to be sorry for.” He tried to assure her. “This wasn’t your fault, none of it. I just got hurt, it happens. I’ve got training now, it won’t happen again. It’ll be okay.” He just spoke in a stream of consciousness, word vomit that seemed to help. Her little sobs died down, hands frantically wiping away the traitorous tears.
“I’m your mother Leo, I’ll always feel responsible for you, no matter what you do, or how old you get. It’s my job.” He wisely didn’t mention the birthdays she missed for reporting or all the times she forgot to pick him up from school. It didn’t really matter now, she’d been a good mom, taken care of him after his dad died. He loved her.
“I’m okay.” He promised through the phantom pains and nightmares. He’d try and remember to wear it when he left his room, to hide the reminder. Just because he’d gotten used to the sight doesn’t mean the rest would.
“Just be careful baby.” She pressed a kiss to his head, standing to get the broom as she gathered herself together, shooing him away when he tried to help.
He promised he would, going back to his room to hopefully sleep. He’d be heading back to the island tomorrow.
-
A week later, Mr, Davenport built the space elevator.

L.S. Dunes: Travis Stever’s yang to Frank Iero’s yin
Words by Ellie Robinson Photo by Mark Beemer November 17, 2022
Tumblr media
Travis Stever talks a lot.
That’s not an insult – the 43-year-old New Jerseyan just has a lot to say, and virtually all of it is fantastic. He’s impressively storied: most would know him as the lead guitarist in Coheed And Cambria, but he’s popped his head through many a musical window over some three decades: side-projects include Fire Deuce, The English Panther, Davenport Cabinet and Zero Trust (per Wikipedia, but I’m certain there’s more out there), and he also played lap-steel on My Brother’s Blood Machine, the 2006 debut from The Prize Fighter Inferno, the solo folktronica project of Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez.
Stever’s latest project is L.S. Dunes, a post-hardcore supergroup* I can only accurately describe as “every mid-to-late 2000s emo fan’s wildest pipe-dream come true”. Stever plays guitar alongside Frank Iero (of My Chemical Romance, and his own mountain of side-projects), while Anthony Green (Circa Survive, Saosin) sings, Tim Payne (Thursday) plays bass, and Tucker Rule (also Thursday, but for a short time, Yellowcard too) plays drums. I write “supergroup” with an asterisk because although L.S. Dunes are a supergroup, etymologically, when I interviewed Stever for Australian Guitar #151, he fucking hated that I called them one.
Nevertheless, we got along like a house on fire, and I had a blast chatting with him about his new band and their debut album, Past Lives (out now on Fantasy Records). It was hard not to be engaged with everything he said: watching him wax lyrical about his impenetrable love for music, even over Zoom with our video link presenting him at approximately three pixels per inch, the glimmer in his eyes and wideness of his smile made it clear, Stever is living his dream. He’s just a kid that fell in love with rock ‘n’ roll, started jamming out for the hell of it – not to make bank, but simply because it was fun – and somewhere along the way, wound up turning it into his full-time gig (no pun intended).
It doesn’t seem to have gotten any less fun for him since then, either. Usually artists with careers as weighty as his appear at least a little burnt out on the music industry. You can tell when someone’s passion is genuine, and Stever’s certainly is.
The proof in the pudding, for me, was just how goddamn much Stever had to say about any and every topic. Our interview in Australian Guitar #151, spanning five questions across a hair over 1,000 words, was cut down from a transcript about four times as long. His unedited answers to those questions ran a solid 600-850 words apiece – well over 1,000 for the first – and there were still a few topics that we had to shave off for page space. One of those was actually my favourite from the entire chat: the creative chemistry that L.S. Dunes unlocked between Stever and Iero.
I opted not to run with that in the printed story because what did make it to the page is a lot more relevant to the origin story of L.S. Dunes and how that led to Past Lives shaping up in the way it did – which is ultimately the story I wanted to centre. But I think what Stever said about his creative dynamic with Iero – and how they each pushed the other to venture outside their comfort zones – adds a lot to the narrative surrounding L.S. Dunes. It also adds a twinge of contextual colour to songs like ‘Blender’ and ‘Sleep Cult’, which makes for a more gratifying listen when you really stop to soak in and digest Past Lives.
Ultimately, I think one of the coolest things about the “supergroup” concept is how idiosyncrasy can germinate when two artists of similar mind collaborate. Both Stever and Iero come from backgrounds of punk, rock and post-hardcore – even if their writing and playing styles are quite dissimilar – but when they joined forces to form L.S. Dunes, they started writing music that neither ever thought they would. And that’s so fucking cool.
So below is Stever’s commentary on his chemistry with Iero, as well as a couple of other offcuts from my interview with him. I’ve included those as well because at a base level, as a fan of music at the end of the day, I love reading about my favourite artists’ plans for the future – even if they never come to fruition – and about how they feel in the lead-up to a major release. I know that latter topic is now entirely irrelevant, because Past Lives came out a week ago, but, like, fuck it, it’s my blog, I make the rules.
You should read the Australian Guitar piece before you hit the jump, because it offers some solid context on exactly what L.S. Dunes is, how their collective ethos plays into everything, and why Stever and I were even talking to each other in the first place – and because the latter two of the three questions here were asked after the ones printed in AG, and some lines might be a bit confusing without that context.
So we’re about a month away from getting our hands on Past Lives. How does it feel to be here in the home stretch? You know, you’re always going to feel a little on edge when you’re about to release something that you poured your heart and soul into, no matter how much you believe in it. It’s exciting, but at the same time, you can feel the the vibes of danger – the danger of exposing the art that you created with your brothers, you know? And knowing that people are going to judge it. But that’s the gig, right. That’s the game. You know people are going to receive it however they choose to – but I’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback from everybody I’ve showed it to, so that’s a good sign!
Being the two guitarists in L.S. Dunes, how did you and Frank coalesce in the creative process? It goes back to what I was saying before, how there was no expectation. It’s really intriguing, because we communicate with each other through the guitars. And we were doing it over streams, online, through email [and] text – and we just knew, as soon as we started sending each other ideas, that it was going to work. And then, you know, it was just as relieving to get into an actual room together and be able to know that the spark was there [in real life], too.
I’ve got to be honest, after working with Frank [on this record], I had to go back and revisit a lot of the things he did in My Chem, and even a lot of his solo stuff – not that I didn’t fully respect everything he does before, but you know, after you see a person in a new light, you understand their musical language more. And I am so honoured to be in this band with him. He comes up with these riffs that are completely different from anything I’ve ever heard before. They’re all over the map – because you can say, “Oh, he comes up with these, really awesome, like, edgy punk riffs,” but that’s not true.
There’s a song at the end of the album that he wrote, ‘Sleep Cult’, where Anthony’s vocals almost have a doo-wop kind of feel. Frank had written that chord progression – that fingerpicking kind of thing – and I heard it while I was working on other guitars; we were in pre-production, getting ready to go over to Will Yip’s, and it was at the end of the session, we’d been working all day, and all of a sudden, he started playing this really beautiful chord progression. And so we recorded that, just as a rough little idea, but we wound up rolling with it. I just added some lap steel and some really delicate chords to it, just to give it a little nuance.
There are numerous parts on the album like that, which I think are probably the best parts of it. Another one that started out with Frank – which is probably my favourite [track] on the album right now – is ‘Blender’. I don’t want to get too dorky about it, but you know, that song is a really good example of what it was like to work with him. I sent him the guitar parts, and he really liked them – I think he was already fine and excited with everything I’d laid down… Because you know, that can always be a touchy thing. I mean, he pretty much had a hole-in-one with the ideas I would send him, and I always loved what he was playing – but I was open to him switching whatever he wanted.
In this case, I had written all the guitars that I was going to play, which was based on what he was playing and what Tim was playing. There were no vocals yet. And I’m so glad that we took our time with that song, because at the very last minute, I just switched it up completely, and I wound up harmonising a lot of the guitars [Frank] was playing instead. It was a completely different approach. That’s one of the things I loved about working on this record – the amount of time we were able to take to really think about it.
I’m not going to speak for Frank, but I think he was probably able to step out of his comfort zone [on this record]. Because there’s things he played on it where someone would probably be like, “Wow, I’ve never heard him play like that!” And for me, that feels really special because I got to [work with him] on those songs. And the same goes for me – there are a lot of [parts] on the record that are very different to [the parts] I would usually write.
We’ve already gone way over time, but I want to wrap up by looking to the future: what are your plans for Australia, and what’s the vibe on a second L.S. Dunes album? Believe me, we want to tour everywhere we can. I can only hope that we’re able to bring [L.S. Dunes] over to Australia – that would be amazing. As for other material… I mean, like I said, there’s just been an endless flow of material. There’s no shortage of stuff that we’ve been sending back and forth, and we already have a lot of surprises up our sleeves. But I just want to pay my respects to the album we’ve already created before we move on to the next thing, you know? I think it’s important that we get out there and show people what we can do on the live end… When everybody’s able to! And if we were able to bring that over there to Australia… I mean, yeah, of course we will!

By Coral Davenport and Lisa Friedman
President-elect Donald J. Trump announced on Monday that he will nominate former Rep. Lee Zeldin, Republican of New York, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, a position that is expected to be central to Mr. Trump’s plans to dismantle landmark climate regulations.
Mr. Trump campaigned on pledges to “kill” and “cancel” E.P.A. rules and regulations to combat global warming by restricting fossil fuel pollution from vehicle tailpipes, power plant smokestacks and oil and gas wells.
In particular, Mr. Trump wants to erase the Biden administration’s most significant climate rule, which is designed to speed a transition away from gasoline-powered cars and toward electric vehicles.
A former congressman from Long Island who ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2022, Mr. Zeldin, 44, is an avid Trump supporter who voted against certifying the results of the 2020 election.
“It is an honor to join President Trump’s Cabinet as EPA Administrator,” Mr. Zeldin wrote on X. “We will restore US energy dominance, revitalize our auto industry to bring back American jobs, and make the US the global leader of AI. We will do so while protecting access to clean air and water.”
In a statement, Mr. Trump said Mr. Zeldin would “ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions that will be enacted in a way to unleash the power of American businesses, while at the same time maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet.”
Mr. Trump added that Mr. Zeldin would “set new standards on environmental review and maintenance that will allow the United States to grow in a healthy and well-structured way.”
Perhaps more than many other federal agencies, the E.P.A. has been a particular target for Mr. Trump, who blames environmental regulations for hampering a variety of industries, including construction and oil and gas drilling. During his first term, Mr. Trump rolled back more than 100 environmental policies and regulations. President Biden restored many of them and strengthened several.
Some people on Mr. Trump’s transition team say the agency needs a wholesale makeover and are even discussing moving the E.P.A. headquarters and its 7,000 workers out of Washington, D.C., according to multiple people involved in the discussions who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the transition.
Michael McKenna, who worked in the first Trump administration on energy issues, said that as two New Yorkers, Mr. Trump and Mr. Zeldin “speak the same language.” He also said Mr. Zeldin’s experience as an Army reservist would make him adept at navigating bureaucracies.
“Lee Zeldin is a great pick,” said Mandy Gunasekara, who served as chief of staff at the E.P.A. under the first Trump administration. She wrote a section on the E.P.A. for Project 2025, the conservative blueprint for re-engineering the federal government. In it, she recommends slashing the E.P.A.’s budget, ousting career staff, eliminating scientific advisers that review the agency’s work and closing programs that focus on minority communities with heavily polluted air and water.
Others, including some close to the Trump transition team, were baffled by the choice. Mr. Zeldin has not been known for showing a particular interest in the E.P.A. And Mr. Trump has tended to select agency heads from regulated industries; he put Andrew Wheeler, a coal lobbyist, in charge of the E.P.A. during his first term.
Mr. Zeldin’s record on climate policy appears to be mixed, especially during his years representing a swath of the East End of Long Island that includes hundreds of miles of coastline and a bipartisan tradition of environmental conservation.
He was a member of the House’s Bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus and earned a 14 percent lifetime score from the League of Conservation Voters, an environmental group. It is a low mark from the environmental advocacy group, but it was nevertheless higher than nearly any other Republican.
Tiernan Sittenfeld, the senior vice president of government affairs for the League of Conservation Voters, wrote in an email that Mr. Zeldin’s score “is obviously not what you would hope to see from the person who could be in charge of protecting the air we breathe, the water we drink and combating the climate crisis.”
Although he boasted about securing federal funds for the E.P.A.’s Long Island Sound program, Mr. Zeldin voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, the 2022 climate law that has pumped at least $370 billion into clean energy and electric vehicles.
When Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York criticized Mr. Zeldin for opposing the climate law, he responded on social media, saying “I just voted NO because the bill sucks.”
“Being that it raises taxes, adds 87,000 new IRS agents, & spends hundreds of billions of dollars our country doesn’t have on far-left policies our country can’t afford, I’m not surprised you’d blindly endorse it,” he wrote.
During Mr. Zeldin’s tenure in the House, he voted against clean water legislation at least a dozen times, and clean air legislation at least half a dozen times, according to the League of Conservation Voters scorecard.
His record includes a vote against an amendment to a defense bill that would have created a climate resilience office inside the White House; for legislation that would have withdrawn the United States from the treaty enabling global climate negotiations; and for an amendment that would have blocked the federal government from considering the economic damage of climate change when it makes policies.
Mr. Zeldin has also taken some votes that the group supported, including prohibiting oil and gas drilling off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. He also voted in favor of a landmark conservation bill that passed with bipartisan support and was signed by Mr. Trump. It guarantees maximum annual funding for a federal program to acquire and preserve land for public use.
He voted for a bill that would require the E.P.A. to set limits on PFAS, which are a family of man-made chemicals that are persistent in the environment and the human body. The E.P.A. under the Biden administration has set strict limits on the chemicals in drinking water. In 2020, he voted against legislation that would have slashed E.P.A.’s budget.
During his run for governor, Mr. Zeldin pledged to reverse New York’s 2015 ban on hydraulic fracturing, a technique for recovering gas and oil from shale rock that environmental advocates say can contaminate groundwater. He also called for construction of more gas pipelines and a suspension of the state gas tax.
He has not spoken at length about whether he accepts the established science of climate change. But in a 2014 interview with the Newsday editorial board he expressed doubts about the severity of the problem.
“It would be productive if we could get to what is real and what is not real,” he said. “I’m not sold yet on the whole argument that we have as serious a problem as other people are.”

This is a gorgeous historic 1917 home in Omaha, NE, but there's something about it that would make me feel "uncomfortable" about being there at night. 10bds, 7ba, $1.5M.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not a bad entrance hall, and it's all original. The house is original, all the wood is the same, dark stain, not painted over.
Tumblr media
Very formal sitting room.
Tumblr media
Plus a sunny parlor.
Tumblr media
The dining room is right off the main hall. They cleverly incorporated gray in the carpets, fabrics and wall coverings. I guess it's not as bad as solid gray, but everyone seems compelled to use gray in order to sell. Lovely light fixture looks original.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lots of cabinets in the very white kitchen. $1.5M and the counters are laminate. Gray tile backsplash.
Tumblr media
It's an eat-in kitchen with room for a table.
Tumblr media
There's a nice big pantry. Odd, that they would put quartz counters in the pantry and not the kitchen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Guest powder room behind the stairs in the main hall. Cute and vintage.
Tumblr media
Lovely original millwork.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sitting room w/a rooftop terrace.
Tumblr media
There's a full bath off the sitting room.
Tumblr media
Now, we're getting into solid gray walls in the bedrooms. I am so over this gray nonsense.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one has an amazing enclosed wall of shelves.
Tumblr media
The primary bedroom has a beautiful fireplace and moldings. All gray though, and I doubt if that was the color of the period.
Tumblr media
The en-suite has lovely marble.
Tumblr media
They made this small room with a door to the terrace, a dressing room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The attic is finished with more bedrooms.
Tumblr media
Full bath up here w/a cute little tub.
Tumblr media
.70 acre lot and there's an apt. above the garage (carriage house).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a very nice 2 bd. apt.
Tumblr media
Beautifully preserved historic home in modern gray.
