There's death at my door and I swear that it's following me
(ao3 link)
Summary:
“I’m going to finish it,” he says out loud to anyone who might be listening in his empty house. “I swear. I have to for school, anyway. I’m not handing in an unfinished paper.”
There is no response but the sound of Ponyboy’s own breathing.
“It’s not easy to write, Johnny!” he yells. “This is the part where I get you killed, you know!”
Nothing.
Figures he’d be quiet dead, too.
---
Neither of the greasers who died that cold, September night in 1967 had a funeral—Dally had nobody to set one up, except his friends who couldn’t afford it, and they never found out where the cops took him after they killed him anyway. But a month or so after everything ends, they find out Johnny’s mother had him cremated and that she and his father kept his ashes.
Ponyboy is particularly pissed off. Something about Johnny being trapped in that house his whole life, and even now, after death, being kept in a place he hated more than anything else…
“It ain’t right. I…we loved him more than they could ever dream of.”
As the remnants of the gang sit around the Curtises’ kitchen table, defeated, Two-Bit half-heartedly jokes they should steal his ashes. Darry rolls his eyes. Sodapop says that’s horrible. A heartbroken Ponyboy says, “Dally would’ve done it in a heartbeat.”
A week later Darry and Soda wake up to Pony making eggs for breakfast, with a new centerpiece on the table.
“Tell me that is not what I think it is,” Darry mutters, gesturing to the cheap urn.
Pony’s face goes red. “So, uh… this kid Mark at school taught me how to pick locks, and…”
“Ponyboy Michael Curtis!”
“C’mon, Darry, I had to! It was eating me alive. They don’t deserve him! I’ll bet they won’t even notice he’s gone!”
His brothers look at him like he’s finally lost it. Maybe he has, because Mark’s advice had gotten him nowhere, and Pony swears the Cades’ door unlocked on its own last night.
“All Johnny wanted was to get out of Tulsa. The happiest he ever was, was watchin’ the sunset back there on Jay Mountain. I needed to go get him so we could take him there.”
“Ponyboy…”
“I had to. I just had to. If not for Johnny, then for Dally, okay? ‘Cause god knows we couldn’t do anythin’ else for him.”
He’s got a lot of reasons to believe this is what Johnny wanted.
That weekend, the whole gang drives up to the remains of the church, so they all can say goodbye. Ponyboy pours Johnny’s ashes out over the cliffside where they watched the sunset, and if a little bit of dust gets on his hands, well. He stares for a minute before he goes to wash it off at the old water pump.
“You gotta go, Johnny,” he mumbles. “Don’t stick around me. Don’t do that to yourself. Move on.”
He’s always had a weird relationship with death.
---
Ever since Ponyboy was little, he’d been told he had a strong imagination. His brothers call him a dreamer. His dad used to laugh and say he had his head in the clouds; his Mom said he was just the creative type. He learned pretty fast that no one else saw the things he could see, and he learned even faster not to talk about it. He thinks his brothers never believed him, but they also never forgot.
It’s one of those things where Ponyboy doesn’t see things unless he needs to. He got real good at tuning out the supernatural at a very young age, and it’s not something that comes up in his life very often anyway; death may follow him wherever he goes, it may show up at his door but he does not let it in. He doesn’t know why he’s like this. It’s like there is just something special about him, something he figures he won’t understand until he is much, much older. Or maybe he never will, and he’s just crazy.
The first time death comes to visit, Ponyboy is not feeling well. It’s been a month, it’s almost Halloween, and it is the first time since Johnny and Dally died that he’s sick again. Pony’s got just a low-grade fever, but Darry lets him stay home because that’s for the best. He promises to work on his English assignment.
Darry and Soda head out to work with promises to check up on him during their lunch breaks. He picks up his notebook and flips through it, but he is at the part where he runs into the church to save those kids and he can’t bring himself to pick up the pencil and admit that it was his cigarette. His fault.
His pencil rolls over the edge of the desk. It clatters to the floor and Ponyboy reaches down to get it. When he sits up, Johnny’s ghost is staring at him, pointing at the blank page.
He blinks and he is alone again, but he can still feel the presence and knows deep down he isn’t. He sits back and groans. He can’t be normal for ten minutes?
“I’m going to finish it,” he says out loud to anyone who might be listening in his empty house. “I swear. I have to for school, anyway. I’m not handing in an unfinished paper.”
There is no response but the sound of Ponyboy’s own breathing.
“It’s not easy to write, Johnny!” he yells. “This is the part where I get you killed, you know!”
Nothing.
Figures he’d be quiet dead, too.
But writer’s block grabs him by the throat and doesn’t let go, so Ponyboy picks up his pencil again and begins to doodle on that blank page a picture of his current situation.
He falls asleep at his desk, and when his brothers come home, they find him there, snoring over a picture of himself at his desk, writing in his notebook while Johnny Cade stands watching over his shoulder like some kind of guardian angel.
---
Time passes and school starts up again, and around a year or so after the Windrixville nightmare, Ponyboy announces to his brothers that he’s going to some school dance with a couple of friends. He’s really non-committal about the whole thing, but Soda thinks it’s a good idea, and maybe Pony doesn’t really like the group of guys he’s going with but he knows he has to get out of his comfort zone and this is one way to do that. He promises to be back before curfew, so it’s not like he’ll have time to get into any trouble.
Apparently, his first mistake was one he’d made literal months ago, back in the spring—saying no to going out with Angela Shepard.
He knows it was shitty of him, the way he'd barely even acknowledged her presence after she waltzed up to him that day, but he also he knows it was never about him. It was her, expecting Pony to have her back whether or not he actually was interested in her, because that's just what Curtises and Shepards do.
But the day she approached him was—would've been—Johnny's seventeenth birthday. So, you know. There are a lot of reasons he'd turned her down.
And now here they are, in October of 1968, at this stupid school dance. Mark’s brother Bryon brought a date and Bryon never liked Ponyboy anyway, so he and Mark walked off together to let those two hang out, and then Mark wanted to go out to Terry’s car because he brought alcohol or something—Pony was not interested in drinking the slightest, but he followed anyway—and then his second mistake must’ve been simply being at the dance or something, he doesn’t actually know. He doesn’t think he spoke to Angela the whole time.
(Later Ponyboy finds out she was trying to piss off Bryon, who he later finds out is her ex. She was mad he'd brought a date, or something like that. He still doesn't really get the whole thing, and probably never will. If you ask him, Angela should've known better than to have taken it all personally when she'd known exactly what she was doing.)
They’re sitting on the hood of Mark’s friend Terry’s car and some guy walks up that Ponyboy has never seen before.
And the guy just swings at him! Of course he swung back!
Pony knows that he does not have a tough reputation, but he is one hell of a fighter—he may have gotten his ass kicked in the rumble but he also helped kick ass, and he’s been working out a bit with Darry so he can keep up with the track team, and he was briefly considered an accessory to murder, so clearly he can handle himself. Just ignore the fact he'd been drowning in the fountain for that whole thing. He figures Mark didn’t get the memo, because when the guy smashes a beer bottle to swing at Ponyboy’s head, his idiot friend decides to pick that moment to tell the other guy to relax.
Next thing Pony knows Mark’s on the ground bleeding and the school-sanctioned cop appointed to keep kids from killing each other at the dance grabs him to haul him away. Some job he’s doing.
He goes to get Mark’s brother, and he explains that the guy meant to hit him and not Mark, and Bryon says something about Angela Shepard but he doesn’t really explain. Pony decides he doesn't care. Mark groans and his eyes open, but it’s like he can’t see anything and Pony winces, because he knows all too well what is happening.
“What’s wrong with him?”
“Shock,” Ponyboy says, and he takes Dally’s old leather jacket off and throws it over the guy until the ambulance arrives and the EMTs take over. He’s careful not to let any blood get on it, though. It’s already been through enough.
Ponyboy thinks maybe he has, too.
The brothers get into the ambulance and Cathy Carlson, the girl that Bryon took to the dance, walks up to him and asks what happened, so he tells her. She mentions that Bryon borrowed a friend’s car to drive them there—Two-Bit drove Ponyboy to the dance and then ditched him for the first girl he saw at the party, and must be long gone by now—and she points it out to him in the parking lot. She heads off to see if she can get a ride to the hospital from someone.
Ponyboy wants to thank Mark for stopping the fight, if he can. He’s not as bad as everyone thinks he is; Pony’s got no clue why Dally used to be so insistent he stay away from the kid. He also kind of figured Bryon would need a way home too, so…
He hotwires the car. He hopes he didn’t break anything in the process, and he makes sure to have Cathy drive, because she has a license and Darry won’t let anyone but himself teach Pony—and he won’t do it until Pony’s sixteen. Probably for the best considering Soda and Steve have a million speeding tickets each and Two-Bit is chronically under the influence.
When they leave, Ponyboy and Bryon have to help Mark walk out because he can’t on his own just yet. Pony’s in the middle of saying he gets it, “I had this killer concussion last year after some soc kicked me in the head during the big rumble, and I remember bein’ out of my mind loopy after, laughin’ at how I couldn’t run… straight…”
He trails off.
He realizes he recognizes this hallway. The door across from him is slightly open and it is the room Johnny died in.
Mark half-falls ‘cause Bryon kept walking and Pony didn’t, and it takes Cathy asking if he is okay to snap him out of it. He says yes but his chest is starting to feel tight and his eyes burn.
He blinks a few times and shakes his head and mumbles a “sorry,” which just gets him an odd look, but no one really asks after that. They get Mark in the car and the only thing he says for the entire ride home are the directions to his house.
Except they don’t get all the way to his house, because they are driving down the street Dallas Winston died on and the pain in Pony’s chest gets worse and he looks out the window toward the street lamp and yells “STOP!” because he sees someone standing there and is convinced they are about to hit them.
Everyone stares at Ponyboy like he is insane but he does not care because Dally is crumpling to the ground just like he did that night, calling out Pony’s name and dropping dead. Then he is standing up, and the bullets are hitting him, and it repeats and repeats like some horrible loop. Pony feels like all his hair is standing on end. He can’t breathe.
Don’t think about how you heard Dally and Johnny’s last words, how they called for you, but you’ll never know Mom and Dad’s. If they screamed for help. If they held each other as they died. If they watched the train coming and knew they couldn't run.
“Uh, I forgot to tell y’all a turn, I… I’ll get out here. Thanks for the ride.”
He doesn’t wait for a response before he gets out of the car and shuts the door. Cathy’s got the window down and she asks if he’s okay and Pony is normally a good liar but he isn’t tonight.
“I’ll be fine. See you later.”
They drive off and Ponyboy sits down on the curb and stares at his hands. He’s never hanging out with any of them ever again.
He thinks about his dreams, the horrible ones that wake him up screaming and shaking, the ones he can’t ever remember, and he wonders why he had to be the one cursed with this stupid ability. To know something horrible is going to happen before it does. To see what happened to his friends after death. Why he has to be the one to know Dallas Winston will never move on. He has this feeling in his gut and he knows he needs to walk down this road to get home but he cannot bring himself to go anywhere near that street lamp. He already has Johnny’s spirit attached to him. He can’t deal with the idea of Dally being there too. He is too angry, and even from this distance, it’s starting to affect Pony, too.
He takes the long way home, because maybe he has a jacket tonight but he figures that if he’s going to get jumped tonight for walking home alone, what’s the worst that could happen after last time? He’s already lost two friends. He lost his parents. Who even cares anymore?
When Ponyboy gets back to his house it is well after curfew and he can see the light on inside and it is like deja vu. He has a black eye and his lip is cut, he knows it’s swelling up because he never put ice on it, and his chest feels tight and he knows he’s shed a few tears and he just. He can’t even bring himself to care as he walks inside.
“You’re late again,” Darry says. Soda is nowhere to be seen.
“Yeah, whatever, Darrel,” Pony mutters.
“Where were you? I told you to be home by midnight. What happened to your face?”
“Some guy swung at me. Don’t worry about it.”
“You really think I won’t, Pony? We’ve talked about this.”
That is a lie. They didn’t talk. They just promised Soda not to fight anymore.
But Pony is tired and Dally and his heart hurts and he feels like he is going to explode, so he does.
“I was at the hospital, Darry, is that what you want? My friend got hurt trying to help me out because some guy I ain’t never seen in my life decided to swing at me at the dance even though I didn’t even do anything and I went to the hospital to check on Mark. And you know what? I had it all under control and then I hadda walk past that stupid room Johnny died in and now I know my brain is broken ‘cause I can’t stop thinking about it and about Dally and— and I don’t want to talk about it!” Ponyboy can’t even finish. He just storms past his brother and down the hall to his room.
He opens the door, grabs Sodapop out of the bed and shoves him out, and then slams the door shut behind him. The doorknob clicks locked and they hear a noise that sounds an awful lot like a heartbroken sob.
Soda looks at Darry.
“I told you waiting up for him would just piss him off.”
“Shut up.”

i wanna hear ur thoughts on the pony dying at the fountain au thing :)
THANK YOU FOR ASKINGGGG. this entire thing is delusional yap central and 95% johnny based so. im so sorry in advance btw.
well. first. so i think johnny wouldn't have had the instinct to run the way he did trying to protect pony and go to dally's — i cant really remember it tbh but i once saw an interpretation of johnny where he was like. his instincts and actions (stabbing paul without a second thought) were compared to that of almost a child (due to abusive parents and neglect etc etc) when put in the worst case scenario so he makes snap judgements without using his head, whereas pony thinks decisions through and mulls over shit maybe more than he should, which is why johnny just yanks him away and gets them to dally's place. i think johnny wouldn't have had that drive in him bc deep down he knowssss pony's gone, knows there's nobody that needs protecting, so he just. sits. at the fountain with pony in his lap. possibly for hours till the sun comes up, most likely in denial trying to convince himself pony isn't dead. doesn't know where to go or who to tell or what to do, esp bc this kid is already so heavily traumatized as is, he simply doesn't make the best decisions sometimes. just how it goes
then like. i assume someone finds them sitting there eventually, johnny can't even talk, whether it be the gang out looking bc they didn't show up last night or this morning or idk a stranger on a walk or literally idk. but. either way. the sheer difference in how pony's death were to be treated vs bob's?? there's no investigation done even though johnny says it was the socs, it wasn't a suicide, they got jumped and pony got killed. he lists them all by name, says exactly what happened, but there's never gonna be justice for pony bc nobody cares when it's a greaser who gets exploited or tortured or hurt or killed. (justice for tulsa scene where the cop shines a light on two-bit getting jumped and turns a blind eye....hmmm).
i thinkkk soda and darry would take johnny in. i won't harp on how torn up they'd obviously be — think soda's letter but about eight hundred times more nauseating ykwim. they just don't get along right without ponyboy. they lost their parents and they lost their kid brother and nearly johnny too — and nobody ever gets justice. so, it's darry who calls war & it's him who calls the rumble in pony's name. :)
johnny probably stays w them for a while but entirely collapses in on himself — literally rots from the inside out with guilt, bc he had a blade and he didn't use it. whether it be bc he chickened out or he was restrained too hard and wasn't strong enough or whatever the case, he takes on guilt heavyyyy for it. withdraws from the gang, from the curtises, saves up whatever little money he can and runs away to windrixville alone — bc hear me out. i think both him And pony def feel some type of way about bringing grief and sorrow and death wherever they go canonically in some type of way. esp him like..staying with pony's brothers now, probably sleeping in his old bedroom trying to keep pony's memory alive. idk idk. the guilt just goes CRAZYYY so. johnny runs away to an old church dally once suggested to him if he ever needed a place to go to run away — esp bc johnny literally canonically has considered running away before.
gang goes crazy over this obviously. search and search and it takes...who knows, days, weeks, to find him. he's got a bit of money stashed and he's not on the run from cops so he can go out to find food and whatever freely but he wants out, doesn't wanna be around the gang. dally shoots up in bed at like 3am realizing he knows exactly where tf johnny must be and collects them all in a car to drive out and find him. they get there and corner him like he's a lil scared animal shining flashlights in the dark and he pulls his blade on them all when they try to approach him up backed against the wall cause he dipped for a reason, damn it, and he doesn't want to be found. dally always runs away and finds success. the implications of johnny pulling a blade on the gang and on dally (out of fear) who gave him it in the first place?? esp when dally prefaced it by when you use this you have to do this with confidence, you have to really mean it, you can't back down when you pull a blade. idk the implications are There. that's literally where this whole thing came from LOL
that's. all i've got lol. thanks for tuning into this absolute monstrosity of a reply i'm so sorry LOL
#the outsiders#outsiders broadway#outsiders musical#ponyboy curtis#darry curtis#curtis brothers#sodapop curtis#johnny cade#outsiders#literally the way this isn't even everything i could've said too#the implications of a greaser getting killed vs a soc???#and the way soda and darry would be irreperably damaged?#like. Bye.#sorry if ppl disagree w any of this btw im just a Girl In the World having Fun its not that serious

The gang (post canon with marbit and cherrycola) going to a pumpkin patch!
-they decide to take two cars: Cherrys car and Darrys
-in cherrys car soda’s the passenger princess because of course he is 💛
-Marcia is stuck between two bit and his little sister (Beth) in the back seat
-marbit is talking and joking the whole way there, until Marcia falls asleep cuddling with two bit, and he (after freaking out cuz she’s so beautiful) falls asleep on her and they’re so fucking adorable
-in the other car Darry drives, pony’s in the passenger seat, and Steve and ace are in the back
-pony tries to read his book but Darry takes it away from him cuz he knows how carsick pony gets 🤦
-Steve and ace are just messing with each other the entire time they’re such siblings 😭
-at the pumpkin patch soda, Steve, and two bit are going crazy with those wheelbarrows that are supposed to carry ur pumpkins
-they are giving each other rides in them and everything, and someone (Steve) definitely ends up getting hurt
-Marcia and cherry watch for a moment, then go off on their search for their perfect pumpkins with Beth
-these girls do not play when it comes to pumpkin choosing, they take it so seriously (mecore)
-meanwhile darry and pony are off looking for pumpkins together
-Darry gets a really big bulky one and pony gets one with a bunch of those scratches and lines on it
-soda and two bit both get reallyy funky shaped ones
-ace and Steve go off to look for one but they’re roughhousing the whole time and end up somehow completely crushing an entire pumpkin.
-eventually they just choose a weird little pumpkin at random
-there’s a pony ride there for little kids, and the whole gang is making fun of ponyboy so muchhhhh
-Cherry takes soda over to the ponys and he’s so happyyyy
-horse girl sodapop u will always be real to me
-on the way home Marcia is in the front with Cherry, while two bit and soda sit in the back
-Beth moves to the other car and falls asleep on aces shoulder
-someone remind me to think about ace and Beths relationship because the possibilities are incredible
Anyways, hope you enjoyed these!

Stand By Me (A Darry Curtis Fic) PART 2
Thank you so much for the fantastic response to part one!! Definitely helped me get motivated for this next part, which kicks off with a visit to the Curtis house.
Click Here to Read Part One
Part 2
You grip the steering wheel and let out a long sigh, glancing over at the foil covered casserole dish in the front seat. You had borrowed your dad’s car to bring it over to the Curtis house, but as you sat parked in front of it, you were overcome with nerves.
Johnny died, it was all over the papers about the hoodlum turned hero and your heart broke for the Greaser gang.
Dallas Winston died too. That wasn’t in the papers – just hushed, whispered gossip at the store. It broke your heart just as much.
It had only been a few days since the awful night, you hadn’t seen Darry at the store and something kept nagging you to do something, help somehow. Even if it was just feeding them for a night so they had one less thing to worry about.
“It’s a lasagna, not a landmine.” You mutter to yourself, and with that you find the courage to get out of the car and up the path.
When Darry answers the door, you nearly gasp at how exhausted he looks. His hair looked like he had run his hand through it a hundred times, the bags under his eyes were near purple and he was two days past a good shave. He says your name like a question and does a long blink, like he can’t quite believe it.
“I’m so sorry about your friends.” You slightly lift the casserole dish. Darry glances down at it then right back at you. “I brought you dinner. If you already have plans, you can stick it in the icebox, it’ll keep for a bit.” He’s still looking at you with a bit of a stunned expression and hasn’t said anything since your name. “Darry?”
“Yeah, uh, sure. I mean thank you.” He rubs the back of his neck and steps aside. “Come in.”
The house is as tidy as you might expect for boys, with worn furniture in the front room and a big fireplace that took over one of the walls. Behind the living room you see a small dining room that leads into a kitchen. You recognized the familiar sight of bills on the table and wondered if Darry sorted like you did: ‘pay now’, ‘pay next paycheck’, ‘pay a little bit and hope they forget you owe the rest’.
“Can I get you something?” Darry asks as you hand him the dish. “Glass of water, or maybe some coffee?”
“It’s alright,” you give him a small smile. “I borrowed my dad’s car, so I can’t be too long. I just wanted to see how you were doing. I heard some kids in the store say Ponyboy was sick.”
“He’ll be okay,” Darry glances at a closed door which you assume is where Ponyboy is while he sets the dish on the table. “Doctor is keeping him in bed for the week which is driving him crazy. But he needs to rest. We’ve got…we’ve got the hearing in a few days.”
I had read about that too: a hearing to see if Ponyboy would be charged in the Soc’s death, if he and Sodapop would be allowed to stay with Darry or be forced to move into a boys home.
“It’s obvious how much you love them. And how you’re tryin’ so hard to take care of them.”
“Yeah, taking care of them so good that Pony gets mixed up in a killing, and then I let him fight in a rumble.” Darry’s jaw tightens and he looks off to the side.
“Hey,” you take a step closer and, for the second time in a week, reach out to take his hand. “Anyone can see how much you love those boys. How hard you would fight for them to have a better life.” He turns back to face you and holds your hand tighter, bringing it a little closer to him.
“And what if it’s not enough?” He asks, so quietly you almost miss it. His eyes are a storm, full of pain and worry but you can see the smallest flicker of hope.
“Then you’ll fight like hell to get them back.”
You become far too aware of how close the two of you are standing, but you can’t bring yourself to step away. You look into his eyes, a gorgeous mix of pale blue and green. He is staring right back at you, but there’s something in his expression you can’t put your finger on. It’s almost like he is studying you, looking for an answer to a problem he can’t quite figure out.
The front door swings open and the moment is broken; you slightly step away and drop his hand.
Sodapop Curtis may have been younger than you in school, but the stories of his good looks and charms made it all the way up to your year. He’s stopped in the store a few times and you can’t recall a time when he wasn’t smiling. He looks tired now, nearly as tired as Darry, but the corners of his mouth pick up when he sees you.
“Gee Darry, I didn’t know we were having such pretty company over.” You let out a small laugh.
“Just came to drop by dinner. And I’ve got to be leaving anyway,” You turn to Darry. “It’s gonna be alright.”
“There you are seeing the good again,” he says, his eyes softening. You give him your best smile; the full one that your mom used to do when she was truly happy about something. You used to practice it in the mirror when you were little, hoping it made people feel happy.
“Just can’t seem to kick the habit. Bye Soda,” you say, letting yourself out the door. But before it could fully close you hear a faint “well I’ll be Darry, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen you blush before.”
And then you’re blushing too.
--
“Gonna be out late tonight.” Your dad says in his usual gruff voice. “Got a big game down at Buck’s. This could be it.”
“Okay.”
This could be it. How many times have you heard that before? When you were younger, he would fill your head with ideas about being on the verge of hitting the big one. You used to dream about living somewhere with a big green yard where you and your mom could plant beautiful flowers. Maybe you would have a dog, a big golden one like you saw a lady walking past the diner one day. Your car would shine, you could buy new shoes, your mom would laugh like she used to.
As you got older the dreams started to fade as you realized ‘we’re almost there’ really meant ‘we’re further and further away.’
“You get paid yet?”
“Payday is on Friday.”
“We won’t be payin’ bills forever.” He says, but even he is losing steam on promising you about a future where you live large. You nod and look back down at your plate.
You eat the rest of the meal in silence and you think about a house a few streets away and wonder if they are eating lasagna.
--
Sheila is working the front counter while you unpack a box of laundry detergent in the home cleaning section. Shelia is a few years older than you and not exactly friendly, but she works a few hours a week so you can take a break from the register and help the stockboy get everything in order. Mr. Murphy used to do all of the unpacking himself, but he’s on the wrong side of sixty to be doing heavy lifting anymore.
The bells over the door jingle as you stand on your tip toes to slide the final box of Tide powder into place. You hear a noise at the end of the aisle and turn to see Darry Curtis walking towards you. ‘
He’s dressed nicer than you’ve ever seen him dress, but the real reason you stop and stare is the fact that he is positively beaming. You are so mesmerized by the sight you almost forget why he could be looking so happy.
“Cleared of any charges,” he takes another step closer to you. “And they are staying with me.” You let out a squeal and, in a burst of excitement, throw yourself into his arms.
His strong arms wrap around you, bringing you closer. Your face is pressed against him muscular chest and you can smell his aftershave, and you know you must have smelled it before since you stock it in the store, but for some reason it smells loads better on Darry.
“I’m so happy for you boys,” you make no move to let go, and he doesn’t either. Maybe you should be embarrassed at literally throwing yourself at him, but something about being in his arms feels so right.
A slight commotion causes you to lift your head from his chest. You see Sodapop and Ponyboy at the end of the aisle, Soda smiling as wide as can be and Pony looking like he’s trying to hide it.
“I thought I told you both to wait in the truck,” Darry sounds only slightly exasperated. He drops his arms, but doesn’t step away from you.
“But you forgot to bring her this,” Sodapop holds out the clean casserole dish and you step forward to take it.
“Oh thank you, you didn’t have to bring it back-“
“Course we did, returning a dish means you’ll get more one day. And we loved your lasagna. Even Pony ate it, and he’s been living off soup all week.” Soda ruffles his younger brother’s combed hair and Ponyboy half-heartedly shoves him off.
“It was really good.” Ponyboy nodded and you smiled at him. It was still funny to see him with blond hair. “Darry almost stabbed Steve with his fork when he went for the last bite.”
“Alright, thanks for bringing the dish, get back to the truck.” Darry gives them pointed looks and you stifle a laugh. They run off with loud goodbyes and tou must not do a good job at hiding your amusement, because he gives you the same look. “They tend to exaggerate.”
“Sure they do.” You both share a smile, and he clears his throat.
“You work late tonight, right? It’s one of your closing days?” You nod. “I was wondering if I could drive you home on your late days. I don’t like the thought of you walking alone.”
“Really?” You ask. “You would do that for me?”
“Of course I would.” He looks serious for a second, then his eyes get a mischievous twinkle. “Can’t have anything happen to my favorite lasagna baker.”
“Maybe next time I’ll make two.” You hear Sheila call for you from the front.
“So that’s a yes? I can pick you up at closing time?”
“Sure. If you’re sure you don’t mind.”
“I don’t mind.” Shelia calls you again and you try not to roll your eyes, but you think he can tell anyway because his small smile, the one that shows the dimple, is back.
He leaves and you glance at the three boys driving away in the truck as you walk up to help Sheila with the register.
“Those Curtis boys might be handsome, but they are trouble.” Sheila says, giving you a pointed look.
“I think you’re only half-right on that one.”
And even if she was fully right, you knew there was no way you could give them up now.

Greetings mutual of mine, tis I, completing my duties as a mutual to randomly send you questions :D
I dare you… to rant about a character who deserved better GO
(lets pretend this hasn’t been sitting for two weeks)
So my instinct was to start yapping about my #emotionalsupportwhiteboy Jason Grace but I doubt I can say anything new about him. Or be able to be coherent since all of his lore just flew through the window. Then I thought Will Solace or Nico di Angelo but they are too obvious (since they were literally Rick’s punching bags). But instead I give you Darrel Curtis from The Outsiders and LET ME TELL YOU WHY (SPOILERS FOR THE OUTSIDERS IF ANY OF THE MUTUALS ARE WANTING TO READ THIS INCREDIBLE PHENOMENAL BOOK)
A/N: To make this as fair as possible, I’m ONLY focusing on characterization from the book. Reason being I’ve never seen the movie so I’m not able to average out the three major lores (book, movie, musical.) It’s only fair if I do either the original or all. Not partial lore.
I’m not quite sure if this counts as “deserved better” but it’s still tragic
I first read this book tthan our protagonist Ponyboy Curtis.
At that age, I HATED Darry. I didn’t sympathize with him, I thought he was a terrible person, etc. All of my energy went into crying for Johnny, and deciding that Pony and I were the same person. I didn’t give a shit about Darry’s actions. I thought he deserved what came to him.
But then, in my senior year of highschool (this year, 2024 for those in the future if this post gets resurrected), I picked up the book again, read it three times in four months, annotated it, and watched the musical. As I’m writing this, I’m rereading my annotations from last month.
Now enough with this exposition, let’s get into my rant about Darrel Shaynne Curtis Jr.
***
Darry's gone through a lot in his twenty years, grown up too fast. Sodapop'll never grow up at all. I don't know which way's the best. I'll find out one of these days. (The Outsiders, pg 10)
Darry was one step away from being set for life- he was a Greaser who could get out. He was smart, he had non-Greaser friends; he had a football scholarship and was set for college.
He was either 19 or freshly 20 when BOTH of his parents get killed in an accident leaving two kids under 18. Naturally, being the soul he was, he immediately gave up his dream to keep his hooligan family together. They all knew that if he went to college it would be over for the family. There’s only so much you can do in Poor-ass, bum-fuck Nowhere, Oklahoma. And Darry does it all.
On top of working stupid hours in stupid conditions hauling stupid amounts of roofing, he has to parent a teenager who knows too much for his own good. This book is written in first person, and while Ponyboy defends his every decision, you can tell he doesn’t have the street smarts his brothers grew up with. And you can tell that stresses Darry out even more, even with the amount of times Pony insults/shit talks his brother.
Does Darry deal with this well? Hell no. I’d be surprised if he did. So much stupid in one week can drive a person crazy (believe me, I know.) Now, I don’t condone smacking children for ANY reason, but I think here, Darry was in that brother/father limbo and crossed into brother territory. Like have y’all NOT smacked your siblings? But went royally wrong here is that because he acts so much like a “father-overlord” to Ponyboy so often, Pony couldn’t even compute the fact that Darry could ACTUALLY act like a brother sometimes. In the park with Johnny, he even compares it to Johnny being hit by his father. Apparently being a brother doesn’t describe Darry anymore
The REALLY heartbreaking part is the reunion after ✨The Fire✨. When his “Alpha male, if I don’t feel anything it would be better for all of us” facade shatters and he just KNOWS that he inadvertently causes everything after page 58. That’s another burden that no man should EVER carry.
It took a murder, a fire, a rumble, a death, a suicide, a three-day fever dream, and Soda running away for Ponyboy to finally understand what Darry does to keep him safe and I think that’s the most tragic thing of all.
Am I just talking in circles? Probably. I’m never coherent when talking about my traumatized characters.
As a treat for staying the entire length of this essay/incoherent rant, here are the bones of an Outsiders playlist I’m making.

༺♰༻
hi anonn! thank you so much 4 the ask !!! i love dal sm, hes so me frfr🙏🙏i hope you enjoy !!! ₍ᐢ. ̫.ᐢ₎ < 3 also i was listening to deftones while writing this and i think dally’s just so deftones. does that make sense
hasn’t washed his jacket in so long. it reeks of cigs, cheap alcohol and some weird perfume (which was most likely sylvias.)
had a mother-son bond with mrs. curtis . she would always patch him up and worry about him and god, did that boys mommy issues go CRAZY
was homeless for a while in ny, and being a 12 year old kid straight out of jail didn’t make matters any better.
was the one who taught johnny how to smoke.
he switches between sleeping at bucks and the curtises every night . (the shepard place is a last resort)
still, curly and angela probably see dally at their home more often than they see their mother ☠️
always talks about new york.
misses it, sometimes .
is pale year-round, the sun doesn’t have nun on him🗣️🗣️✊✊
the sound of thunder reminds him of the constant gunshots he’d hear in ny, which is why he despises it.
even though buck has a habit of kicking him out, dal still has his own room there, and it’s an absolute mess. angsty teenager type of mess. buck has to force him to clean it up because there’s no way in hell he’s doing it.
he hates little kids, the ones who always complain and whine.
i’ve seen people say “oh if he hates kids then why does he hang out with the youngest ppl in the gang” and it’s like.,,. how do u know that. because they went to the drive in theatre together and hung out for one single day?? 🤨🤨
but. let’s say that he does only hang out with them, i’d say its because they don’t complain. like pony and johnny are both silent so he likes hanging out w kids that can shuddup!!
he hates bugs. especially spiders and mosquitos. he’ll step on ants and beetles and runs away from spiders
he would force himself to drink black coffee to look cool but he wouldn’t be able to drink it.
the soc he stole his ring from was bob, i dont remember if that was ever implied but whatever🙏
darry is his older brotjer figure . fight me
and lastly, he’s not str8.

Jeeper Creepers: Unexpected Turn of Events Chapter 1
CRAZY DRIVER
The weather cannot predict how the day may go. Sure, a lovely spring day with light breezes, the endless emerald pastures, and the clear blue sky dotted with ravens croaking their calls could be a herring for a bountiful or peaceful day. As a young caucasian college student, with the name Darius Jenner or Darry, with short brown hair and matching, eyes drove down the seemingly infinite road in his sister's, Patricia Jenner or Trish, car thought the weather means a pretty okay day. Said sister right next to him on the passenger's side, gazing out ahead of them with her mind occupied abput her regular life, not thinking of any of the dangers ahead.
Then again, how could she have known? It seemed like another regular Spring Break and another regular trip to their parents' house like for the past few years. How could either sibling know that was all to end this year? To know about the horrors that lies ahead
"Just turn 15, you were a senior. You took me out to mom's old station wagon, The Dragon wagon, to teach me how to drive. But there was that one tree."
Darry recalls to his sister to pass the time, laughing at the memory. Trisha continues to stare ahead at the road, her eyes focusing on a stop sign ahead.
"There was a guy banging the car while we were in the building."
Trish recalls. Darry gives a short chuckle before he continues.
"That's right. You actually lied for me."
Trish rolls her eyes, wonder, not for the first time, is she really related to this goober? Yet, Darry could see right through his sister's denial.
"No no come one, you lied for both of us. You actually did something decent for me, that's a part of history you can't change."
Darry concludes as he drives past a stop sign which Trisha notices as she glances back.
"That was a stop sign."
She points out to which Darry just shrugs off as he glances at his sister, incredulously.
"You're kidding right?"
"In your car, I'd be kidding."
She answers sarcastically as she glances at her brother to show her commitment to her statement.
" On this road? I haven't seen a car in fifty miles."
Darry answers back. They continue to drive at an average speed for cars on highways until Darry spots an RV. Feeling the familiar rush of sibling competitiveness, Darry speeds up to the RV, seeing no danger of it given the mostly vacant road.
"Come on Darry."
Trish warns in a half tired tone. She again had to ask herself, how did he remain alive for all these years, again? She already knew the answer, but it doesn't quite take away the annoyance that comes with her brother's antics. They drive up behind the RV to where they can see the vanity license plate that read,
"6A4EVR".
"Gay- Gay fever, no Gay forever! Gay forever! Ha! that's mine. That's 3 for little bro"
Darry claims in victory as they drive just a bit closer to the RV, seeing what he thought was a G, was actually a 6. Darry frowns dramatically at this which causes his sister to give a slight chuckle at his state, which only increases his frown.
"That's a 6, not a G you idiot. That's Sexy forever, that's mine and that's 5 to 2."
"Sh*t."
Darry mumbles disappointingly. Trish then glances over at Darry with a raised brow.
"Gay fever?"
Trish asks her brother incredulously. She just huffs in amusement, when they drove up to the driver's window to see an elderly couple, who didn't look too amused.
"Oh."
Darry utters out in realization, yet his tune changes after the elderly couple turn a corner and they drive past them.
" Sexy forever huh?"
Darry teases with a grin at his unamused sister.
"You know that's you in 40 years."
Trish deadpans to her brother, as she then proceeds to gnaw on a part of her reading glasses as neither had anything left to say, for now. They drive in silence for a good long moment, with their friend in the back snoozing away being the only sounds besides the road.
" You know there's usually a reason when you like the long way home."
Darry starts, not wanting to beat around the bush and get straight to it. Better to rip the band-aid off, just as his sister would tell him. However, in this case, it would appear that Trish didn't want to hear it.
"Gee like, maybe I like the country?"
She retorts, turning her head to her brother with no trace of humor on her expression.
"Ok"
Darry replies, disbelief being definite in his tone.
' Geez, hypocrite much, sis? '
Darry thought to himself in irritation but decides in the end that he wasn't going to drop it.
"Just drive brat."
Trisha commands Darry, who persists with his questioning.
" Hey, I'm only thinking the same thing mom and dad are going to be thinking, "Trisha, why are you driving home for spring break with your brat brother, and not heading off somewhere with that nice Mr. Poly-side-track-team guy?"
Trisha rolls her eyes at Darry's "mom" voice and sighs.
" I will tell them the exact same thing as I'll tell you, none of your Goddamn business."
Trisha again repeats, frustrated at her brother's insistence. Why can't he just let her keep her own damn life private? He's the baby, not her.
" Better not let mama hen back there hear you."
Darry teasingly warns, referring to the woman in the back with her luggage as well as the siblings'. She's a 6'1; olive skin; long messy caramel hair that goes past her waist slightly: full lips; a curvy figure; wearing converse, a teal bandanna, and a black baggie hoodie. This is Corbin: she is traveling with her close friends for the break since well, she's got nothing else to do or family to visit, at least that's what she told them.
"Oh please, she's knocked out like a light, something about late-night errands, and it goes the same for mama hen there, it's none of her business"
Indeed she was sleeping on the window, eyes shut with on hand on her cheek. Her long hair a mess from it rubbing against the door with some drool gathering at the corner of her mouth, signaling how truly asleep and dead she is to the world, currently.
"Oh you think Corbin and I can't understand the complex nature of your relationships?"
"No, I look at you two as real experts."
Trish replies back. She sometimes had to ponder in the depths of her mind, why would she tell her immature brother? How would he understand, when he never takes anything seriously? Corbin would be a no go too, knowing she'll pry even more insistently than Darry. Then maybe go kick whatever perpetrator there is where the sun doesn't shine. Darry just scoffs, trying to play it off.
" Heh, whatever, whatever I don't care."
Trisha then leans up to tune on the radio only to get crazy rambles, farmer reports, and about a lizard-headed demon. Annoyed with nothing decent is on, Trish gives up and shuts off the radio. Although, it's starting to sound
" Just saying that you should break it off with him, you should at least figure it out what you're going to tell Mom and Dad. They're the ones in love with the guy, or do I need to sick Mama Hen on the guy? Mmmhh? "
There was a silent pause, as Trish decides to just keep searching through different stations. Corbin not stirring at all from the back which Trish hopes would be the case for the rest of the trip.
"You wanted the back way home. That's 10 hours of preachers, farm reports..."
"Can you possibly just shut up and drive, please!"
Trish snaps. Ok, so sister is pissed, what do? Humor, the best way to go about this situation from what Darry knows. Darry then starts to sing, with a teasing smile.
"You broke my heart in two,
Now I can't find the duct tape
to put it together for you,
Come on, girl sing along now"
Darry says to his sister, oblivious to the large truck creeping behind them as he focused on the road ahead, ticking off his sister with every verse of his improvised song.
"When I met you, I thought I would die
I wanted to cry
Didn't know you were evil
or that you would hurt me
Mr. Poli-Sci-Track-Team guy,
Turns out your a twit and a real-"
HONK HONK!!!
"TAKE COVER GERRY! "
Corbin shouts in utter surprise, practically jumping out of her seat which results in her bumping her head on the ceiling turning her head in the Jenner siblings' view, to a large rusty looking truck that being driven as if it were by a crazy driver.
" What the hell is his problem?!?"
Darry cries out fearfully in his high-pitched voice that, as Corbin pointed out, happens whenever he's scared.
" Just get out of his way Darry!"
Trish demands in a panic, as the trunk honks it's horn again, still not making up its mind as it tries to ram them off the road.
"Mes Couilles Sur ton front!"
Corbin swears frantically.
( ? POV )
The smell of fear, so invigorating and addicting I just can't get enough of it. What's this? Ahhh, this scent is new, though I've only had a faint wisp of it once, I can still recognize it for it still sends a pleasurable shiver down my spine. Sharp yet sweet, with a smokey tinge to it, but now I hunger for it in a different way from food. Desire is a more appropriate word, maybe even more than my regular hunger.
I may have finally found my mate.
(Now back to the terrified Jenner Siblings and an angry Corbin)
" Let him pass you Darry! Darry what are you doing?"
"Peau de fesses!"
Trish shouts in a panicked frenzy, as Corbin continues to spit out every insult she knows in her motherland's tongue.
"Go around me!"
Darry begs as he frantically signals the driver to move around him, but this driver continues to act like a maniac ready to most likely run them all over, still honking its loud horn.
"Get off the road and let him pass you!"
Trish shouts at Darry from her own panic rising within her. Darry looks behind his shoulder with wide eyes and teeth clenched, contrasting to Corbin's " I'm so done with this" face.
" He's nuts!"
"I know he's nuts, now pull over!"
Trish demands her brother. The truck's tires squeal as the driver once again honks its horn. Darry then once again signals with his hand frantically, hoping the driver could get the message. Yet, he suspects that with those tinted windows, the guy can't see sh*t through them.
" GO around me!"
"Slow down and let him f@#$%ing pass you!"
"Caca Boudin!"
" I'm trying!"
Darry shouts to his sister, as Corbin continues to swear. Finally, the crazy driver passes them, giving them a good look at its vanity license plate that says, BEATINGU.
"Jesus."
Trish exclaims almost breathlessly, her ears pounding from the rush of blood going through her veins.
"Sh*t"
Darry breathes out, his heart still pounding against his ribcage.
" What the hell is his problem?"
Corbin shouts, knowing she wouldn't get any answers but needing to speak her frustrations out anyway.
"My guess,"
Darry then sticks his head out the open side window, and shouts in the wind to the now distant driver,
"INBREEDING!!!"
They watch for a bit as the truck gets smaller and smaller, finally disappearing from view. Corbin just facepalms at Darry's remark, shaking her head. Oh, she loves the knucklehead, but why is he so idiotic? She just knows one day it's going to get him killed.
" Get a load of that nasty old thing. What is that? The vehicle of choice for assholes and f*cking serial killers?"
Darry asks rhetorically, his knuckles going white from how tightly he was gripping the steering wheel.
" Everyone ok?"
Corbin asks with concern in her green eyes.
"Yeah."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, just had the piss scared out of me, but otherwise just fine."
Darry comments which had Corbin having to hold in a smile and chuckle. She then elects to look at forward ahead of them, her eyes glued to where the manic driver went off to. She lets out a huff through her nose as she leans back against the window. Silence took over for a brief time until Trish is the first to break the silence.
"Yeah, hey you know what I just thought of?"
Darry gives a knowing look as he briefly glances at his sister.
" Kenny and Darla? Trish, they died about a 100 miles from here"
"It's the same highway."
' Poor Kenny and Darla. '
Corbin tells herself as she recalls the news of their prom night. They were just heading home from the night of their lives when apparently their car smashed with the roof ripped open with their bodies nowhere in sight. She could still recall seeing the image of their wrecked car smoldering at the side of the road with glass everywhere. Who could've done that?
"No no, they never found her head."
Corbin says butting in in the sibling's conversation. Darry nods his head glancing at Corbin.
"They found the car. Didn't find him or her head."
Corbin then takes Trisha's hand into her own.
"Goodness, you're still shaking Trisha."
Corbin gently told Trisha and then hands her a bottle of ice tea as Darry continues.
"You don't think every generation has their cautionary tale, of drinking and driving on prom night?"
Trisha shakes her head no, unscrewing the bottle of ice tea to take a huge swig out of it.
"I always heard it was true. Wheaton Valley High, class of '78."
She takes another gulp of the drink, a dry chuckle coming from her.
"Heh, want to know something?"
Corbin nods and Darry hums to signal that he's listening.
"When I first heard that story... I used to think this was the highway I would die on."
Silence is what filled the car for a brief moment until Corbin comments,
" Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine?"
Corbin replies with a deadpan expression before giving a teasing grin, knowing not to take her pedantic moments to seriously. She just had to make friends with a drama queen, huh?
"I agree, quite the cheery think today, aren't we sis?"
Darry asks rhetorically before giving a small chuckle.
"What? What's Poli-Sci-Guy been doing to you anyway?"
A snarl forms on Corbin's facial features as her blood starts to boil.
" I don't like that guy's vibe, just something up with him."
Corbin retorts, her tone going down an octave as she claws at the back of their seats. Trisha looks back at her friend, raising at her attitude and feeling some annoyance bubbling inside of her. But before she could tell Corbin off, her brother spoke to her once more.
" Beating you? "
Darry says which in turn made Trisha and Corbin turn their heads to him in confusion.
" There was a license plate on the van we just saw, B-E-A-T-N-G-U. So beating you."
Darry cries out in victory.
"That's mine. That's 3 to 5!
"You can't call it now."
Trisha counters, smiling to herself.
"My ass!"
Darry complains. Corbin just lays her head on the back of Trisha's seat.
" Sacre bleu, you guys get over it!"
Corbin complains exasperated by the bickering about the sibling's game but had a slight grin to her face in amusement. It's so cute to see them acting like little children, showing just how close and annoying they are. Just like with her own sister.
"No cause, You have to call it when you see it."
Trisha explains to Corbin.
" I was in shock!"
"Does it really matter?"
Darry insists, as Corbin just rolls her eyes and leans back to her seat, unbeknownst to them, she was holding a hand over her mouth to hold in her chuckles at the ridiculousness of it all.
"Tough!"
Trisha argues back.
(Corbin's POV)
The bickering went on for a while as they both exchange insults like middle school children, arguing over the rules of their game. Just like the day, I met them. And now they're arguing over license plates, and still annoying the hell out of me. Good times. Do you know what's not a good time? Getting almost ran over by a crazy driver, in an ol' rust bucket with wheels. The heck does he think he's doing? At least I'm guessing he's a guy from what I can tell; although something about that driver didn't sit right with me. I mean, who puts a cowcatcher on a truck?!?
Not to mention the glass was very tinted; anyone who looked at that thing would've thought that thing came straight from a horror movie. I hope we don't run into that guy again, as much as they can be a pain in the ass at times; I don't wish anything to fall upon Darry and Trisha. My gut's telling me something's going to go wrong, and my gut hasn't failed me yet.
A/N: Don't forget to comment, like, reblog, and whatever else! Stay weird, my fellow humans.

isn’t scared of bugs at all. except centipedes. he HATES centipedes. “i hate the way they run, and NOTHING needs that many legs.”
steve:
he doesn’t let out his feelings to people or reflect on things a lot, but when he does, he knows soda will listen
he has always been obsessed with cars. he was the kind of kid to hog every single toy car at daycare.
he just really likes ducks
he thinks dirty humor is hilarious
two butt:
makes dad jokes and hysterically laughs at them
falls asleep in the goofiest positions
he’s perfectly memorized every elvis presley song and sings them to himself a lot. it drives darry crazy.
johnny:
HES PUERTO RICAN

loves to bake with dally. dally gets really annoyed sometimes, though, because he’ll just eat all the frosting and sprinkles before they’re used
definitely has a rock collection
dally:
dally thinks snakes are pretty cool and goes out looking for them a lot. johnny hates it. “oh my god, dally, put that thing down!”

Cops (Sodapop x Reader)
This was somewhat inspired by an Avengers movie and a certain scene (see if you can guess it!)
Pronouns used: She/her (sorry!!!)
Warnings: Slight swearing, knifes, blood, kissing (I guess if that's a warning?)
"Soda!" I yell, skidding to a stop in front of the Curtis house.
"What?" A shout comes from inside.
I yank the door open, a wild and crazy grin plastered on my face, "I have the best idea ever."
Inside, sits Steve and Soda, playing poker. Darry sits in his chair; he looks up at me groggily, so I assume that I just woke him from a nap. Pony and Johnny are watching Mickey Mouse, along with Two-Bit. And my brother, Dallas Winston, is nowhere to be seen.
I had met the gang when I got into trouble with some Socs. The Socs said that that night, to meet them at the park, and we would settle it. Not one to back down from a rumble, I accepted. I then had called the number Dally gave me if I ever needed help, (notice how he said 'if I ever needed help'. Not if I ever needed him.) and some guy named Sodapop answered it.
I asked if Dally was there, and the phone was handed off to my big brother. After I told him the situation, he said he would be there with backup.
Later that night, I was at the park, almost shitting my pants. I didn't know if Dally was going to show up or not. Hell, I hadn't even seen him in two years.
We were close as kids, but as our circumstances got worse, we drifted apart, and left each other to fend for ourselves.
I was eight at the time.
I was waiting for someone to show up, when a blue mustang rolled up to the park. I stood straighter, and took out my blade.
I'm sure I looked stupid, standing alone.
But just as ten Socs were walking over to me, grins on their faces, I heard shouts and yells from down the street.
I looked over, and a wide grin spread on my face. Seven guys were jumping and running all over the place. I saw my brother at the front of the pack, along with a muscular brown-haired guy. (Darry.)
"Hey bro!" I yelled.
"Hey." He smirked back at me. As they approached, he said, "I heard that my kid sister got into some trouble, so I just had to make sure that you weren't doing anything bad without me."
"Sorry." I shrugged, "But I've committed many felonies without you."
Dally playfully slugged me in the shoulder.
"Alright!" A Soc yelled, "Are we gonna settle this, or are you chickening out?"
One guy behind Dally scoffed, "This is what I do for fun! If anything it should be you who's chickening out."
"Never!"
And so, the fight had began.
We won obviously, but not without some cuts and bruises.
Dally had brought be back to the Curtis household, and formally introduced me to the rest of the gang (or as formal as you can get with Dallas Winston.)
And that's how I joined the Curtis gang.
I hit it off with Soda and Steve the best, but all the boys were like brothers to me.
Except Soda.
Unintentionally, I had devolved a bit of a crush on him.
But, as everyone knows, he's much to of a playboy, and probably out of my league.
"And what's your amazing idea?" Soda drawls, smirking at me, bringing me back to the present.
I smile wickedly, "There's a police car parked by the drive-in. No one's by it. I wanna slash the tires."
Soda has a look of disbelief on his face. He stares at me, glances at Steve, then back at me. "That is the most stupid and reckless idea I've ever heard. Let's do it."
I cheer, before silenced by Darry, "No." He deadpans, "You are not slashing the tires of a police car."
"Why not?" I whine, "It's perfect! If they catch us, which I doubt they will, then they won't be able to chase us!"
Darry rolls his eyes, "Fine. But don't call me if you need someone to bail you out of jail."
"Yes!" Soda and I race out of the house, Steve making up some excuse of not wanting to spend a night in the cooler.
Once we reach the drive-in, Soda and I sneak up by the cops car, and ready our blades. "Ready?" We count down together, "Three, two, one!" I slash the front tires, while Soda takes care of the back.
We've just finished, when I hear a "Hey! Stop that!"
I look up to see a cop come from around the drive-in. The cop starts running towards us, and I grin at Soda, "Nice." I say, "A chase."
Soda laughs, eyes dancing with excitement, and it's at that moment that I realize that I could spend the rest of my life looking into them.
Soda grabs my hand, and drags me along. We start running, feet pounding the pavement, matching my heartbeat.
We run through Tulsa, twisting and turning through the streets. It doesn't matter where we're going; we don't have a care in the world.
Nonetheless, this cop seems oddly determined. He runs after us, but I can tell that he's not in the best of shape.
Soda and I start gaining some ground, but it's clear that this cop would follow us to the ends of the Earth. We need to find someway to shake him.
Just as we round a corner, I spot an alleyway. "Come on." I say to Soda, and I drag him in it.
The alley is a dead end, but I don't give up hope. I hear footsteps coming closer, and just for a second, I get a crazy idea.
"What are we gonna do?" Soda asks.
As the cop comes around the corner, I grab Soda's face, and kiss him. Soda seems shocked, and his eyes go wide. However, he starts to kiss me back.
He hands find my waist, and he tugs me closer. I lean into his solid chest and I can feel his heart going a thousand miles a second. My fingers reach up into his hair, and curl around strands full of grease. But I don't care. Fireworks are going off. Time seems to slow down as Soda's lips mold against mine and I feel his hot breath mingling with mine.
Soda slowly breaks away and I swallow, "Sorry." I breath, "But public displays of affection always make someone nervous, and they turn the other way."
"Smart." Soda whispers.
I glance around, and sure enough, the cop is long gone.
I turn back to Soda, but I can't seem to find my voice. All I can focus on is how close we are together. Before, when we were friends, I didn't know what I was missing. Now I do. All I can think about is wanting to kiss him again.
I take a deep breath and push away from Soda. He seems to snap out of it, and says, "We should probably get back home."
"Yeah."
We start walking, and there is obvious tension between us, neither one willing to break the silence.
When we get to Curtis house though, and just as I'm about to go in, Soda grabs my arm and asks, "Can we talk?" He looks helpless and scared, like I might refuse him.
"Sure." I say, and he leads me around to the side of the house.
"I-I'm not sure what to say." He runs a hand through his hair, mussing it up, and making it look impossibly cute.
"What do you want to say?" I prompt.
Soda sighs and looks at me. I see his dark-brown eyes, but unlike other times, they look serious, but also caring, "I want to say," He starts, "That I really like you Y/n. I've liked you for some time now. I like your laugh, and I like the way you have these crazy ideas that I can't help but go along with. I like that you're up for anything, but still are the most caring and loving person I know. I like your brain, and how you can think up new angles for anything. I like your hugs, and how secure they are. I like you smile and eyes and how they can light up a room. I like every single thing about you. And I know that I shouldn't, but I feel jealous when you hug or laugh with other guys. And I know that Dally will kill me if I hurt you, but I promise that I never will. I'll never leave you. I was wondering if you would like to be my girl."
I pull Soda into a kiss before he can finish his last sentence. A few soft tears escape my eyes, and they mix in to our kiss.
I break away, but lean my forehead on his, "Is that a yes?" He asks cockily.
"Of course, you idiot!" I laugh softly. I take a deep breath, then ramble on, "I really like you. I remember the first time I saw you. I remember how you told the Socs that fighting is what you do for fun. I remember you helping to patch me up after the first fight. I remember how you kept everyone laughing, even though Steve lost a tooth. And I like how caring you can be, but yet the life of the party. You make everyone smile and laugh, and you don't even have to do anything. You also have the best smile. And I like how you keep this family together, between the thick and the thin. I like how you can go from playful, to stone-cold if someone ever says something that's offensive. I like how sensitive you are, and how you always put others before yourself, even though you deserve the world. I like everything about you. So of course I'll be your girl."
Soda smiles, lighting up the world, as he leans in to kiss me.
I happily kiss back.
Until, I hear, "Curtis! What are ya doing with my kid sister?!"
Part 2
(Also, this is probably the longest chapter I've ever written...) I would just like to point out, that you (or anyone else) should never be someones girl or person. They don't own you. This is set in the 60s, however, and they had sexist views back then. You are your own person and have every right to be. Stay safe, and Stay Gold.

ah yes we meet again pal
How about some curly hcs because I love that idiot 😭
ANYMORE DALBIT HCS YOU CAN THINK OF LIKE I LOVE THOSE TWO
I’ll throw in some Tim x dally hcs (but dalbit is still the best 💕)
and some darry and dally brotherly love along with some for curly and dally
Man I need to catch ur name or smth 😭 I can't keep typing victorious all the time.
And this a lot! I'm happy tho I swear !!
I'll do it in segments 😼
ALSO I've been waiting for someone to ask for Curly headcannons from me for the longest time. I love Curly <3 ANYWAYS
Curly and Dally brotherly love headcannons ✋🏾:
Whenever they see each other they definitely go "ewwww [Dally or curly's name】 *fake puke noise*" of course they're always joking but still.
Curly will go out of his way just to find Dally and purposely annoy the piss out of him.
Once Dally was at the drive-in and Curly hunted him down just to ask him if he had like 2 dimes.
Everytime Curly does something Dally threatens to tell Tim. Curly straightens up real quick-
They play fight all the time but pretend like they actually are to freak random people out around them.
Dally rlly does care about curly, but sometimes he can't help but call him every word in the book imaginable. Every single one.
And Curly does it right back
SOMETIMES, and this is rare, Dally will take Curly with him to go get something to eat at like a diner or smth. But he has to be in a real good mood for that. 😋
Curly will borrow money from Dally but never repay it back. Dally could care less bc it's not even his money anyways-
Curly will tell on Dally to Tim, even if he hadn't done anything.
Like once he told Tim, "Dally threw me in a lake and then when i got out, started throwing thrash at me. " while standing there completely dry and clean. Tim doesn't believe him most of the time.
They do SOME fun activities. Like for example once they chased after little kids one time. Some brotherly bonding time if I've ever seen any 🤷🏽♀️
They dare each other to do things u shouldn't dare someone to do.
C: "I dare u to go rob that store right there."
D: "What? Nah man, are u crazy?"
C: "No balls u wont"
D: "...nvm let's go"
They do that thing where they tell girls, "my friend right there says he likes u" while pointing at said friend. They do that a lot.
ALRIGHT section one done 😼. I'm also going down the list backwards btw.

I LOVE what you do, I REALLY LOVE IT. I rarely stop to say that to someone but dAMN. I was wondering if you could do something about Stevepop, that couple drives me crazy! Please and keep doing the wonderful things you do❤
:') omg tysm darling that means so much to me :D here's some stevepop hcs bc i love them and it's what i'm feeling today <3 (please request more for the outsiders i beg of you)
i think they would literally be all over each other 24/7
They work together, and steve got kicked out so he definitely moves in with the curtises
pony gets kicked out of him and soda's room so that the couple can sleep together </3
actually no one kicked him out but he spent one night in there with soda in the middle of him and steve and it was mortifyingly hellish so he moved
He sleeps in Darry's room now
And just naturally they grow closer :D
Steve actually grows closer to Pony as well, because Soda adores him and he finds it hard to keep being so cold
ty steve for fixing their family <3
i wasn't kidding though when i said they're all over each other all the time
they're working and Steve stands at the counter behind soda while he's ringing someone up like 🧍♂️
they actually end up getting a decent car together
it's their baby
while some couples get a dog or a cat
stevepop have a car
her name is vanessa
they have matching tattoos, steve has a coke bottle on his wrist and soda has a switchblade on his
sometimes steve gets arrested for doing something stupid
and soda begs Darry to help him bail him out
"We just can't afford it! I'm sorry Soda, but we can't just spend that much for something like this. Use visiting hours."
Soda acts like he's a maiden in a medieval love story in love with a prince from an enemy kingdom
"Though these walls may separate us, my heart will forever stay with you, for you have me enchanted, my love."
"Soda wtf i'm only in here for three more days"
"My love, thou art eloquent and beautiful in your claims, but i must protest. 'Tis I who has been enraptured by you."
Sometimes Soda and Steve think Darry and Pony can't hear them doing anything late at night and
Darry and Pony are in the other room, in the bed, trying to fall asleep, staring at each other uncomfortably
Darry finally gets up after a few minutes
"Let's go out and get some ice cream."
when I tell you they run out of that house
Soda and Steve learn to rollerskate together
They go skating every night, after dinner
They pool their money to get into rodeos again, and while neither of them have their own horses, they're able to worm their way into the good graces of people that do have them
They get thrown around and beat up but the other one is always there to take care of whoever got hurt :')
they don't know who's clothes are who's anymore lmfao
"Is that my shirt?"
"I think so?"
Sodapop makes Steve a bracelet omg
it's braided and steve has a hell of a time figuring out how to make Soda one for their two year anniversary but he does it
definitely making a part two to this whether people ask for it or not lmfao <3

i actually have some headcanons for the silly au (i call it “an unlikely pair”)
- modern!au
- (headcanon) pony knows how to skateboard and is trying to teach paul and Chet (Chet keeps falling, bro has like 74953 bruises)
- where paul hasn’t beat up pony but like knows of ppl that do (after becoming closer w pony him and Chet make a pact to not hurt anymore greasers)
- paul and pony definitely do workouts in the summer (paul has his college packet of football workouts) and pony runs the track to keep in shape for the szn
- pony loves to infodump to paul about his fav books (also i headcanon that pony loves music as well!) and paul listens intently bc he too loved reading and used it as an escape before he found his love of football
- pony Loves playing rdr2 (he loves the scenery and Arthur’s character as a whole!!!)
- Paul has a big ass house (obvi. rich boy) and he has a redone basement that has a pool table and pony is so fucking good at pool and Chet & paul are like ???? And pony just shrugs and smiles “it’s just math guys!”
- movie nights happen at Paul’s place w the soc gang (marcia, cherry, chet, paul) and pony (sometimes Bev as well!)
- bev does makeovers with pony (puts him in Paul’s socy clothes and takes pics for blackmail purposes hehehe) (posts them on her priv insta story, chet and paul ofc screenshot them) cherry ofc screenshots it and sends it to soda and soda sends it to the gang and they all dog on him like CRAZY (pony is defending himself over FaceTime w twobit like “bro they Made me Please”
- Chet & Paul are basically like ponys protective older bros and guard dogs (he’s the same way w them tbh, like if some soc beats up paul bc he’s hanging w a “dirty greaser” pony fucking sees red and basically almost kills the guy for hurting paul) (pony is collecting older bros like pokemon at this point)
- marbit and cherrycola have double dates (two & soda tolerate paul bc of their girls (and pony), they ain’t besties but they are civil)
- chet will buy pony cokes bc he knows he loves them (will hide them behind his back and be like i got you somethingggggggg and be all smiley)
- Chet and marcia call pony “cowboy” because pony Always brings up how Marcia said it sounded like he belonged in a western film
- i know for a fact that the socs drag race just like the greasers do sometimes, so paul is def taking Cherry, pony, marcia, and chet (chet is the one driving in the race, Paul is w him as a passenger to watch for cops) pony would be so nervy for chet and just be like "pls don't die" and like be concerned and chet is like "I've been doing this since i was like 15 'll be good kiddo" and Chet just ruffles ponys hair ))):
— okie yapping over!! Here’s another moodboard (I love sharing my silly thoughts about this au, do you mind if I randomly just share them in ur dropbox?)
ok wait pony and paul doing workouts and conditioning together is making me sooooo. sigh. pony running track to keep himself ontop of tryouts whenever track comes back and paul practicing for football. ur killing me actually. both of them collapsing on the field when they’re too exhausted to even moveeeee. pony correcting paul’s running and form. it’s so special to Me
also yapper/listener bffs will always be sooo real sigh. the darry pony and paul pony parallels… i think pony loves classical music idk why but i’ve always thought this. nerds out soooo bad over ancient composers and his friends r just like ok whatever you say kid 👍
CHERRYCOLAAA i love you for this. soda being like wtf are you even doing there and pony’s just 🧍🧍. again. dare i bring up the pony darry parallels. pony in the bigger boys socy clothes and all it reminds darry of is when that used to be him bc pretending to be something ur not is so much more fascinating than accepting the shitty life you were born into!!!!!
marbit cherry cola double dates….. goofy little greaser boy best friends trying to impress their sweet pretty lil girlfriend best friends. sighhh
pls keep yapping as much as you want i love this lil au of urs so far <3

i have no idea how to use tumble at all, i literally use it to look at the outsiders incorrect quotes but uh i thought i’d post a fanfic i wrote for my oc, arabella and dallas so enjoy.
Title: Death Pact - Dallas Winston One Shot
Warnings: Death, Suicide and Mentions Of Abuse
Word Count: 2,189
Everything went in slow motion as Dallas raised his unloaded heater, an idiot that kid was, they don’t know he’s bluffing. As the bullets from the surrounding police officers made their impact, memories of the years spent by Dallas’ side flashed before my very eyes, years of love, adoration, thrills, adventures and memories all gone within the blink of an eye.
“Yeah, you, Johnny and Ponyboy are all seen as hero’s now” I spoke, walking over to sit on the side of his hospital bed looking over at Tim for a moment before looking back at Dallas. Dallas looked annoyed hearing himself being called a hero, he muttered a few incoherent things under his breath, most likely curses on how he was anything but a hero.
“Any word on when they are going to let you out?” Tim asked, thinking of tonight being the rumble, meaning he needed any man he could get his hands on. Dallas was surely one of the best he’d be able to get.
Dallas sighed, shaking his head as he lowered his gaze. He ran a hand through his hair, knowing this would disappoint Tim and I, just in different ways. “Suck’s about the rumble, Man.”
Dallas and I both cared about Johnny a lot, Dallas more than me by a long shot. We saw so much of ourselves in him, but definitely more Dallas. I could only hope that Johnny would be okay… but hope wasn’t enough.
Merely a week ago, we were helping Johnny and Ponyboy go on the run. Couldn’t believe Johnny had actually done it at first, seeing the two walk into Dallas and I’s room at Buck’s Pony soaking wet, freezing I offered him one of Buck’s shirts we had laying around, Dallas gave him his brown jacket.
I checked one of our drawers for some cash, counted fifty and Dallas explained how to get to a hideout location. I handed the money to Johnny, “Should be enough for you to buy a week’s supply of food, when you get there you need to get food before your descriptions are put in the paper.”
Dallas got up from his potion on the bed and went to get his gun, his loaded one. He handed that to Johnny as well. “Don’t point it at me for Pete’s sake Johnny, it’s loaded!”
“Pony, do Darry and Sodapop know about this?” Dally asked as he took a seat on the bed again, pulling out a cancer stick and match using his Christoper to light it. He took a drag as Pony shook his head, “I’m not itching to be the one to tell them and get my head kicked in”
“Don’t tell them then” Ponyboy replied settling with the new shirt and jacket on.
That night neither Dallas nor I got much sleep, we laid in bed thinking, hoping that Johnny and Pony would be okay. We had sworn ourselves to secrecy, no one would know that night had happened the way it did other than the four of us.
Just over two months before that night, Dallas went to prison. “Yeah well, I don’t want to see him serving a sentence longer than a couple of days,” Dallas told me. We had been discussing him taking the blame for busting out the windows of the local high school, everyone knew Two-Bit had been the one to do it.
“But Dal, you know they aren’t going to give you a slap on the wrist this time around” I sighed.
“I can handle it, been in and out since I was ten, you know that Bella,” Dallas said, as he emptied his pockets, putting his heater in one of his drawers. “Plus, sounds like something they’d think I’d do. I’ll get hauled in soon enough, it’s easier to just turn myself in”
I walked over to him, putting my arms around his waist holding him. I always hated when he went to jail, normally I could find my own entertainment between visits but it was never the same without him. I always missed him. “You know the gang will keep you company if need be, Tim is always open to you spend the night at his.” He told me.
“Yeah, Yeah. I’ll miss you though” I replied as he turned to put his arms around me.
I know most wouldn’t look at Dallas and think ‘that man is romantic’, but he sure could be sometimes, I originally never thought he’d be one to plan dates months in advance. Sure took me by surprise the first time he put so much dedication into a night out. We were back in Tulsa for about six months at that point, he took me out for dinner at the Dingo which was common so I thought it be an average night out. We didn’t stay for milkshakes after which was odd because milkshakes were always how we ended the night. We headed out to Buck’s car which we had borrowed for the night and he took me on a drive.
Listening to Elvis on the radio as we drove around Tulsa, we spent the drive singing along to the radio, talking or just enjoying the moment until we pulled up at one of the nearby lakes, there was a picnic blanket set out with a basket. He’d paid one of the guys to set this up while we had gone to dinner. There were beers, strawberries, whipped cream and chocolate. God this man had my heart. The night was spent there before we went swimming which started out innocently enough, can’t say it ended that way.
I of course am Dallas’ partner in crime, I was a relatively well-behaved kid until Dallas and I moved to New York. We got ourselves into so much trouble, we were involved in a gang, got into gang fights often, robbed stores, and even got wrapped up in a murder cover-up.
“Bella, stay right there,” Dallas said, as he peaked out of an alleyway. We had stolen dinner from a gas station, we’d had to spend the last of our winnings from our latest gambling on rent, after a day and a half of not eating we had to result to stealing. The police had been called, stupidly enough, all we stole were chips and soda, quite the overreaction if you ask me. We took some alleyways on our way back, he was just checking for cop cars.
“Shit…” Dallas muttered. He turned back to me, “Back this way, we have to walk down to the next alleyway”
Before we even had the chance to move, we heard someone yell in our direction. There were two police officers calling out to us and walking in our direction. Dallas and I looked at each other for only a split second before we bolted down the alleyway. The dark alleyway echoed with our laughter as we did.
The officers were so caught off guard that they hadn’t reacted nearly as fast, so they trailed further behind them. The alley ahead of us split off into three directions, we had to think fast and had to split up. I went for the alley that would take me closer to our apartment while he took the one that would cause him to have to run around almost an entire block. We exchanged a glance that could only be interrupted as ‘be safe’.
I hadn’t been followed, both officers trailed Dallas allowing me to get back without any troubles. I couldn’t touch my food once I got back, not till I knew that he was okay. I sat on our mattress on the floor which my eyes on the door. Every apartment we owned was a room with a bathroom attached, never anything special we couldn’t afford anything bigger.
For an hour I waited for him to return, when he did he had a cut just above his eyebrow, bleeding down his face and a massive grin on his face. He almost gave me a heart attack, I think I lost years of natural life from that experience and many more similar.
There were so many memories of New York, we spent three years there and they were the best years of my life by far. From ages 13 to 16, I spent every day and night filled with the thrills of running away from home, gangs and falling madly in love with Dallas Winston.
I remember the night Dallas and I admitted being in love with one another. This was about a month into moving to New York, we had known each other for about seven months at this point. Dallas and I moved to New York two months after my mother’s death, we weren’t very close at that point and the only reason why I ran away was because I had a fight with my father, he pulled a gun on me. I turned to Dallas, knowing that I couldn’t hide with the Curtis’ they were too close with my father. He wanted to flee his own father, so that’s how we ended up in New York.
This particular night we had been out with friends, on our walk home it had started to rain so by the time we ended up soaked. We collapsed on the floor, staring up at the ceiling laughing about something I had said before we entered the room which really isn’t important to the moment. Dallas turned his head to face me, using his hand he turned me to face him.
“I don’t think I can hide this from you any longer, Arabella.” He said, we stared into each other’s eyes and for the first time I saw him nervous. “I love you, Bella.”
I almost couldn’t believe it. Dallas admitting his love for me, he returned the feelings that I had been so unsure of. “I love you too, Dally”
We laid there as moments passed, continuing the staring as the grins grew on our faces. He was the one to break the silence, the words that would impact the ending of the situation I currently find myself in.
“I propose… a death pact. I know right now I want to spend my time with nobody other than you and I never want you to be with anyone else.” Dallas said. He’d mentioned how the idea of marriage made him sick.
If this was anyone else, I would have laughed in their face and told them they were crazy. But.. I was also not in the best state of mind. Dallas was the only person keeping me here, after my mother’s death and my father becoming the way he was my only stability was him and if he was to go, I’d want to follow. “Let’s do it”
“If you die, I’ll kill myself... If I die… you do the same” Dallas said drawing out the only real rule.
Bringing me back to now, after witnessing Johnny’s death at the hospital after the rumble Dallas broke. Johnny was gone, and everything came crumbling down for him. He ran out before I could stop him leaving Pony and I to walk back to the Curtis’ to share the awful news. We had been back for only a few minutes before Dallas called, and once Darry told us we bolted from the park. I ran as fast as my feet would carry me.
“Dallas!” I yelled seeing him running, he stopped in his tracks under a street lamp. I swear I saw him look at me as he raised his unloaded heater. A fool, that’s what my love was, a blasted fool. The officers didn’t know his bluff, shots fired and Dallas fell. He was gone before we could even make it to him.
Darry was yelling, something about Dallas just being a kid. Most couldn’t control the tears that raised in their eyes or the sobs that left their mouths as we neared his body. Every memory with Dallas from this moment backwards went through my mind in a flash. Suddenly Dallas’ voice filled my head, ‘If you die, I’ll kill myself... If I die… you do the same’’. I had to honour the pact.
Tears fell down my cheeks and I choked out sobs. I turned to Darry and then to Pony, “I’m so sorry.. But I promised Dallas” I said.
I grabbed Dallas’ heater took a few steps forwards, before raising the heater at the nearest officer. It didn’t hurt when I was shot, it felt like I’d had a pebble thrown at me but I assume that was just because of the shock. I fell to the ground and the last thing I heard was Pony’s voice.
“Not Bella too”

Anonymous said: Hi! What do you think the Outsiders(including Tim & Curly) ideal girl would be like personality-wise and/or looks-wise
(a/n: heya lovely! i’m just letting you know that i wasn’t comfortable writing about the ideal looks they went for as i’ve seen a lot of these types of imagines posted and most of them are blonde haired, blue eyed white girls. i really want to begin ensuring that my writing is inclusive to as many people as i can, and i also don’t think the boys would be too knit-picky on their partners looks. so, i’ve mainly focused on the “ideal” personalities instead, which btw are just my own opinions on how i view the characters, as well! - admin kat🌙❣)
DISCLAIMER: i would like to give an ENORMOUS shoutout to @the-outsiders-blogg for their help in creating this piece! they helped me come up with some initial ideas (which i used) for what each of the boys would find ideal in a partner personality wise, as well as editing this piece and helping me add some new parts in. this is especially the case for steve, whom i find the most challenging to write for! but now i feel like i have a better grip on his character. so thank you so much for all of your help hun! also you all need to follow them bc their imagines, gifs and memes are just the most spectacular! ❤

The Gang + The Shepard Brothers Ideal Types Personality Wise Preferences:
Darry Curtis:
° I think that it’s a no brainer that Darry would date someone who’s got a more mature outlook on life and mindset in general. He doesn’t really have time or energy to invest into a relationship with someone who’s going to throw tantrums and storm out like a child. Darry has two kid brothers and a gang of friends who are pros at that, he needs someone who can keep their cool.
° He’s also going to be looking for someone who is much more grounding and soothing since he’s stressed 25/7 from raising two kid brothers, paying the bills on time and having his buddies crash at his house almost everyday.
° I believe as well that Darry would be looking for a more stable relationship, particularly one that’s long term. Darry doesn’t have the time to invest in something short term that doesn’t go anywhere. If he’s going to be with someone, he’s going to be very serious about it.
° He needs someone who’s good at communicating. Sometimes he holds in all of his emotions until they explode out messily. He needs someone who can communicate their points of views in an adult-like fashion. Also, by you speaking about your emotions it tends to open the door a crack to allow him to open up emotionally to you also, which is initially quite challenging for Darrel to do.
° Darry will need to be with someone who isn’t too sensitive. In his eyes there’s nothing wrong with sensitivity, it’s just that his words can come out rather brashly, especially when he’s high with emotion and often he’ll say things in the heat of the moment that he truly did not mean. So in other words, he needs to be with a partner that won’t take what he says to heart and will take things with a pinch of salt.
Sodapop Curtis:
° With all of the listening and diligent advice giving that this boy hands out, he’s going to need a significant other that can also do the same for him. I mean, the poor boy is only a human, he has troubles, insecurities, fears, worries, hopes and dreams just like the rest of us. He’ll also need them to be a bit patient with him because he’ll often feel guilty when he comes to you with his issues, it makes him feel weak. So all in all, he is looking for a partner in which he can develop a strong emotional connection to.
° Sodapop is definitely an adventurous and spontaneous young man and is eager to find a partner that is up to having fun with him, at least some of the time. This could be when you sit on his lap during a drag race, attending rodeos with him, going to parties and having a blast of a time by dancing the night away, the list goes on! As long as you’re up to doing some fun things with him, he’s down to be with you.
° Introversion, ambiversion or extroversion really doesn’t matter to Sodapop. He will love his partner to their very core, warts and all! As long as you’re a good person, Sodapop doesn’t really care. He’s understanding of everybody and will ensure that you’re comfortable no matter what when you’re dating him.
° Obviously he’s going to want to be with someone who’s both trustworthy and honest, for obvious reasons regarding his ex Sandy. There’s also going to have to be some patience coming from your part. I mean, he’s over her now, but the insecurity of someone breaking his heart again like she did is a pretty intense fear of his. But that’s okay, because you naturally help soothe that insecurity of his: When you say you only have eyes for this dreamy guy, you mean it!
Ponyboy Curtis:
° Ponyboy would definitely lean towards being with someone that is more in touch with their femininity and their sensitive qualities. This is surely due to the fact that he too is quite sensitive. He wants to share sunrises and sunsets, along with his thoughts of movies and books with his partner, since he can’t exactly share that much with anyone else in the gang.
° Ponyboy also loves creativity and sports, so he’s going to look for someone with either a passion for creativity or sports, maybe even science. He enjoys practicing your sport with him and bouncing creative ideas off of you. You two would make the perfect study partners!
° He’s also going to look for someone who’s a good listener because he has a lot of intense thoughts swirling around in his noggin most of the time. He’d be super grateful for it and shyly thank you, returning the favor tenfold. Pony believes in making sure that what he receives he puts out back to you just as handsomely.
° Ponyboy is definitely an introvert and that’s awesome! I feel that he’d be down to be in a relationship with another introvert, but he’s also going to need someone that will bring him out of his shell a little. He’s going to be with someone that he feels he can trust and fully relax around, which is why he’s able to share his interests and thoughts with you so fluently. So, regardless, his emotional connection to you needs to be strong in order for him to speak more and open up.
Johnny Cade:
° Johnny has a whole host of issues mentally and emotionally, so it’s incredibly important that he is with a significant other that displays qualities of compassion, patience and support. Having someone he can go to is an important step in him allowing his walls to slowly break down. If he’s talking to you without having to be forced to, you know that he’s comfortable around you.
° Again, Johnny is going to need someone who is an excellent listener. It may take some time for him to open up to you, but when he does he’s honest. And you best believe that he’s incredibly grateful to have you. Just like Ponyboy and Sodapop, he’ll also listen to you. He believes that a relationship is a two way street as well.
° Johnny is pretty introverted and shy, there’s no doubt about that. I personally feel that he would be with someone who’s much more independent and enjoys making the decisions in general. It’s going to take some time for him to be comfortable enough to communicate what he wants and why. But your patience comes in handy and eventually he’ll tell you he wants to go see a new movie at the drive-in, etc. Yet initially he’s going to let you make most of the decisions.
° Like Ponyboy, he’s definitely ecstatic to be around another introvert, vibing off of each other would be amazing for him. Silences wouldn’t be awkward and things would just be over all chill. But, I still believe that Johnny needs a partner who can get him to relax in any situation and bring his feisty nature out a little more, since it’s definitely there and we’ve all seen it! The gang find it endearing that Johnny speaks more when you’re around, it makes them happy to see how joyful he is, because that beating from those Soc’s had really left him jumping at the sight of his own shadow. Poor baby!
Dallas Winston:
° Dallas Winston is going to be into someone who is more care-free. Being with someone that’s constantly anxious leaves him feeling on edge and he wants to feel on top of the world, all round relaxed. Especially when it comes to respecting his boundaries. The whole idea of someone attempting to change who he is makes it difficult for him to take them seriously as a partner. He’s Dallas Winston, he’s going to do what he wants!
° Like Sodapop, Dallas is looking to be with someone who likes to have fun and bend the rules. Dally is a rule breaker himself, often going out of his way to break the law. He’s not asking for his partner to start shoplifting or pulling crazy stunts like he does, but even minor things will get his adrenaline pumping. Although, he’s not opposed to dating a goody two shoes either!
° In Dally’s eyes, he doesn’t care whether you’re a tomboy, a girly girl or somewhere in between! He picked you because he loves your style and the person that you are, despite how mushy that sounds. He’s never going to admit it though. Maybe he’ll tease you endearingly about it, but that’s about it. There’s something about you that caught Dally’s eye and he knew he just had to have you all to himself.
° Dallas often prefers girls who are confident, headstrong and know what they want, even if they cuss him out in the process. Just take Sherri Valance for an example! She was having none of his crap and her feisty nature really sparked interest in him. So there has to be something personality-wise from you that he also feels he connects to. However, he also has no issue with being with someone who’s quieter and less confident, Dallas is going to make you feel like the luckiest and most breathtaking girl in the world when you’re with him. His louder nature will coax you to relax over time and you’ll start to blossom a little in confidence. He’s not looking to change you, just to get you to relax, because he finds you swell just the way that you are!
Steve Randle:
° In Steve’s books, he prefers individuals with a more masculine energy, regardless of whether they’re male or female. He’s not opposed to being with someone with a more feminine energy to them. It’s just that he really wants to be able to share his passion for both automobiles and sports with his partner. He’s kind of a dork like that.
° This teenage boy is most likely going to need someone who’s able to calm his highly intense energy down. He’s in a constant state of tension, itching to let out his emotions in often brutal ways such as fighting or drag racing. He’s hyperactive and finds it a challenge in itself to soothe that high energy he’s feeling most of the time. So someone who’s more grounding and calming is a sure way to help him unwind. Obviously, you’re not looking to change him because that’s not your job! It’s just that your aura tends to level out the high emotions that pulsate throughout his entire being at full throttle.
° Yet also, it’s very important for Steve to have a partner that he can also have fun with. Much like Soda, he enjoys participating in rodeos, drag races, attending parties, etc. Doing fun activities with his significant other helps them to bond with one another and creates particularly fond memories, this is also vital because it makes him want to be around his partner more. Family and home life is genuinely a drag for Steve, which is why he spends a lot of his time at the Curtis house. To have a partner that will also do spontaneous activities with him, it helps him move beyond his broken family life, and into a space where he can really flourish as a person.
° Once again, this young man will need someone who’s good at listening to him. He’s got a lot of daddy issues, considering he fights on nearly a daily basis with his father, getting kicked out too! This obviously creates a lot of anger inside him, which is why he’s so smart mouthed and quick to jump the gun and invest in a fist brawl, instead of talking things out with someone or letting it go. He feels that he needs to be tough in order for people to not only take him seriously, but also not to step on him. His father steps on him and his emotions too much which has erected a sturdy wall that he let’s few people through. It’s like his defense mechanism.
° This boy is going to love someone who smiles brightly at him. It’s cheesy I know, but there’s nothing better on this planet than his partner being happy. When you smile, all of his worries dissolve!
Two-bit Matthews:
° It’s a no brainer that Two-bit will flock to blondes. They’re his favorite! But what really makes him a sucker for someone is their ability to laugh right along with him. Yes, even at his crummy puns and terrible jokes! The sound of your laugh is genuine music to his ears, he’d do anything and everything to hear it a thousand times a day. The only time he enjoys you crying is when you’re crying of laughter.
° This boy is a bundle of the finest chaotic energy™ known to man, so he too will need someone more grounded to keep him down on the ground. Otherwise, he’d be on Mars by now! His partner would definitely teach him that it’s perfectly okay to feel other emotions that aren’t joy and excitement, and that it’s equally just as important to face those feelings.
° He strives to be with someone who is passionate about something. Anything really! He may not be the brainiest out of the bunch, but he’ll listen to you for hours on your passions. It makes him grin silly and honestly, he likes to at least attempt to learn some things about your interests. For him, a big passion of his is Mickey Mouse! He’ll talk to you about it for hours whilst he watches the television show with you.
° Two-bit also values honesty in relationships. Yes, he’s a grade A liar, but he feels crummy when he lies to his partner or is lied to by his partner. So he always does his utmost finest to ensure that he’s being as honest as possible. This is especially the case when a joke of his upsets you in any way, shape or form. If it goes too far then he wants to know. He can be a bit scatterbrained and may forget, but he wants you to be comfortable with and around him. He won’t settle for anything less.
Tim Shepard:
° Funnily enough, I believe that he would go for someone a lot softer than him since he likes the contrast. He’s all about that opposites attract trope, even sometimes his own gang have to bat their eyelids to make sure they weren’t imagining who they were seeing with their gang leader. They don’t necessarily have to be a goody-goody, just not as harsh as he is. It makes him hopeful in the world when he can bag someone kinder than him.
° Nevertheless, Tim wants to be with someone who has a mind of their own as well as having the capability to stand up for themselves. He loves protecting them, but he also wants to breathe easy when he’s not around you, comforted silently in the fact that you can handle your own. I mean, it’s a turn on for him when his partner can run their mouth, despite looking innocent. Like hands down, it’ll probably get him in the mood asap!
° Although Tim isn’t sold on expressing many emotions, he’s aware that they’re there, bubbling under the surface. So, Tim will definitely be with someone that he feels he is able to emotionally connect with. He doesn’t even have to vocalize this, it’s just something that he knows inside of his head and can feel when he’s around the person. It means that you’ve both got a strong connection together, which he’s not really got with many people in his life, considering how brutal his home-life really is.
° He also wants to be with someone who is trustworthy and honest. Tim doesn’t have the time to waste on two-timers. Usually when he settles into a relationship, it’s for the long term.
Curly Shepard:
° It’s canon that Curly Shepard isn’t the smartest kid out there in the world, so he probably seeks out someone who sees past that and can really get him as the person that genuinely cares deeply about him and wishes to get to know him. Because Curly is actually quite fun to be around, he’s always got some sort of idea to kill the time!
° In all honesty, Curly’s going to be most attracted to an individual that will be prepared to cause at least a little bit of trouble with him. You’re usually the one who ensures that you both don’t get caught. The whole experience is such a rush that you’re both grinning widely at each other afterwards.
° He’s most likely going to go for someone more extroverted or at least someone who is an ambivert as Curly would have a challenging time when it comes down to understanding someone who’s more introverted and shy. It’s not to say he wouldn’t like them, he just will assume that they’re quiet and withdrawn because they don’t like him, even if they do. But he definitely doesn’t think that there’s anything wrong with introverts! I mean, Ponyboy Curtis is one of his good buddies, after all.
° Curly is quite spontaneous himself, enjoying it when he switches things up. He becomes bored with little effort, so he needs to keep himself busy, and what better way to do that when he can cause all sorts of trouble! You low-key do have to remind him that climbing a telephone pole again would result in another broken arm, but he does it anyway!
