favorite fics of 2024/basically just batfam fic rec list

It's that time of year guys, here is my favorite fics of 2024 in no specific order (aka my master batman fic rec list bc that's all i read this year with some spider-man thrown in there lmao). most of these have been in my previous rec lists, but this is just like one big frankenstein’s monster of a fic rec with all of them in one place <3

starting off strong, anything @bluelotuswrites's hands have touched is pure gold. Red is the Color of Sinners placed post UTRH where after being hit by bruce's batarang and now mute, jason decides to leave gotham and go to hell’s kitchen for a fresh start, but he keeps running into daredevil both in and out of costume. this is possibly the best jason of all time i rotate him in my mind like a microwave all day

The Hellblazer's Apprentice is an all blades jason fic where instead of continuing his lost days world tour, he meets john constentine and decides to learn magic to piss of bruce. blue added some lore to jason’s character in this that to this day makes my brain vibrate with excitement and the dynamic between john and jason is just ?? so good. both of these fics haunt me, they follow me wherever i go, i love them. read everything she's written, trust me

going with the theme of my favorite authors i read this year, @cdelphiki wrote my favorite read of the year and possibly all time Life Happens a fic that hit me like a sucker punch where tim and damian are both sent to a different dimension where everyone they know are comic book characters. with no other choice, they have to start a new life in this world while they wait for rescue. words just dont do it justice, please please read this fic. it’s the most beautiful story on growing and life

their other fic Jason and the Three Terrors crosses my mind at least once a day if not three times. jason is still with the league when talia charges him with getting damian, his cousin mara, and his secret sister athanasia to bruce safely from ra's. the rest of the fic is jason going from "i cant wait to get rid of these kids" to "these are my kids, i need to provide for them and keep them safe and i would die for them" 100/10 jason's character development is some of my favorite in any fic.

The Time Before is another of my favorites where jason is sent back in time to when he was 9 and goes to bruce for help and realizes maybe his memories of bruce maybe aren't all accurate. just read everything cdelphiki has ever written, trust me <3

Split by @wolfsbanesparks i have never been hooked on a character i previously did not know much about faster than when i read this fic. Billy and shazam are forcefully separated into separate bodies by black adam and then they have to try to keep billy's identity secret somehow while working with the justice league to fix them. the end of this fic had me sending paragraphs and 5 minute voice notes to my friends, trying to explain why i was so absolutely distraught and obsessed.

also by wolfsbanesparks, From the Shadows is basically everything you could ever want from a billy batson joins the batfam fic. it's got plot, it's got identity shenanigans, it's got badass magical billy, what more could you possibly need! seriously idk what is up with everything wolfbanesparks writes, but the endings are always so fucking good, 100/10.

Something in the Static by @bonerot19 is one of my favorite jason series ever, i go back to it constantly and think about it all the time. this is a series where jason's mom doesn't die and his dad isn't in prison, instead he's 17 working nights at a convenience store when everything changes and suddenly batman won't leave him alone. this is my favorite jason & steph best friends fic ever and the way this fic is paced scratches an itch in my brain, the flow of the story is just perfect

Buy Back the Secrets by @vinelark is the only ship fic on here and it deserves a place of honor. every time i get an email that it's updated an angel gets it's wings and my friends all get texts in all caps. Timkon fic where kon still doesn’t know tim’s civilian identity, but tim keeps calling for superboy when he's in trouble which leads to kon meeting him as a civilian. the identity shenanigans are just so top tier, its a 5 + 1 fic so every chapter is just just a new world of fun tropes. the chapter with tim's fake uncle and jason is actually probably my favorite chapter of a fic ever its so dear to me. as far as i'm concerned, this fic is the only timkon ever <3

Honoring Promises by LananiA3O is the shortest fic on this list and is the most important jason & dick post UTRH fics i've ever read. this fic both scratched an itch and created an itch because i need 100 more chapters and for it to never end. set post UTRH when dick starts to rethink his opinion on a note jason left him and realizes it was jason reaching out and decides to find him and fix things. this goes up there with RITCOS in the post UTRH fics where jason decides to just fuck off and do his own thing, i love them

Adopting a New Plan by A_Silly_Gander is yet another fic where jason winds up with an adoption problem when he first comes back to gotham. however, my favorite part of this whole fic is how the author writes jason making mistakes and being flawed and how those mistakes affect him. absolutely 10/10 character development and jason rejoining the batfam + damian and jaosn meeting in the LOA tag is just a mixture of all my favorite things, i love this fic so much

A Collision of Masks by MOVAZ is my favorite dick grayson fic ever, its set in a young justice AU where batman never joined the JL and YJ never met dick, so when the YJ team is sent to investigate a new vigilante, nightwing, identity shenanigans ensue. this is seriously such a fun fic, i loved all the crossover between dick's many identities and the YJ team

Cards on the Table by @wesslan is just!!! so fun oh my god. the chapter titles are to this day my favorite things ever they enhance the experience. it’s about tim being a scam fortune teller who knows a lot more than he should about the upper class due to his nighttime stalking. he winds up meeting the batfam and giving some scarily accurate advice which leads to him being tied up in their business and lots of lying <3 it’s such a fun fic and i just love the vibes 100/10

Hand in Unloveable Hand (a chokehold) by @a-large-orange-cat is by far my favorite fucked up tim fic! while tim’s out taking pictures of batman and robin as a kid he gets kidnapped by black mask and raised to take over his crime empire. cue 50k of manipulation and angst, the ending is so satisfying and the sequel with jason always makes me :’) very good, this tim lives in my mind in a little house he and jason built

Dark Matter by @mysterycyclone because would it be a fic rec without the loml? i love this fic so much oh my god, it sent me back on my spiderman obsessed bullshit which in turn led me back down my marvel bs. post infinity war peter is dusted and wakes up in the DC universe with the ghosts of the dusted avengers following him. i love this fic so much, nothing compares to this peter in my mind. the dynamic between him and the batfam + the identity angst is just so well done

keeping up with the peter theme, The Teenage Vigilante's Guide to Saving New York (And Making Friends Along the Way) by candlesneedflame is such a good team red/mentor matt fic oh my god. where peter goes against tony’s wishes and starts hanging out with daredevil and his friends and maybe starts getting mentored by new york’s vigilantes. 10/10 i love peter interacting with the other vigilantes and also matt mentoring him

anyways, that’s all folks! 2024 was the year for the DC and marvel fics clearly and hopefully 2025 will be the year of me binding all of these finally and having them sitting pretty on my shelf <3

2024 fic rec list :)

So here's a list of fics/authors that I read in 2024! A lot of them are Batman-related, and Jason-centered :P

Six Degrees of Separation by @oliocelottafanfics. It's a Criminal Minds crossover with Batman, where Penelope Garcia is the one to find Jason after his resurrection and adopts him. This is one of those fics where I didn't know I needed it until I saw it, and now it's stuck in my brain.

The Right Substitution is Key by Addicted Apple. A fun what-if story where Batman and Nightwing go missing, so Robin recruits Red Hood to fill in as Batman while completely oblivious to the fact that Red Hood is Jason Todd.

Five Reactions to Pepper's New PA by @gladdecease. Short, but Bucky ends up becoming Pepper Potts' personal assistant. It's very funny and wholesome.

@cdelphiki's Three Terrors Cinematic Universe is a top fic that many probably already know. Talia tried to escape the League with Jason, Damian, Anathasia, and Mara al Ghul. She didn't make it, leaving Jason to be the one to protect them.

Along with that is cdelphiki's The Time Before. Jason got sent back to the past by Black Mask, who wanted to kill him before he became Red Hood. Jason goes to Bruce for help and ends up healing and learning more about Bruce.

A League of Her Own by @comebackolivia. Immediately after the UtRH, Talia finds Jason in the rubble, kills to Joker, and takes him back to the League, where they try to take over and rebuild it with Nyssa. Jason becomes one of her generals. You might recognize them for their work on Not-So-Outlaw :)

VermillionFlame is another more recent author that has been working on Arkhamverse Jason. For Want of a Savior and Hold Fast (Don't Let Go) are two of my favorites.

For Want of a Savior has comic Jason wind up in Arkhamverse, and saves AK!Jason. He then helps him heal and the Batfam is in a panic after realizing Jason may be alive.

Hold Fast (Don't Let Go) is another AU where Jason shot Deathstroke while working on his revenge plan that would be seen in Arkham Knight. He then shows up at Wayne Manor for protection, throwing the family's peace into chaos as so many things come to light and people butt heads.

Echoes of Future Past by orangesky37 on AO3/ @kindlingkeen. Immediately after Jason's throat got slit in UtRH comic, he gets yeeted back to the past and is found by authorities. James Gordon brings Batman onto the case, not realizing Batman is Bruce Wayne. He gets protective of Jason when he tells Gordon that 'his dad did it.'

Going Down Like the Titanic by @sunnylighter A shortish Arkhamverse AU where Joker succeeds in getting Bruce to succumb to the Titan virus by showing Jason still alive in Arkham Asylum.

Bruce Wayne Must Die by @reginalusus. Jason wants to kill Bruce, only to find out that he's missing. He teams up with Harvey Dent to find him, and there's father-son bonding vibes between Harvey and Jason.

Do Unto Others by @romiress. Arkhamverse again (listen, I'm a sucker for that storyline when it comes to Jason. It's maximum angst potential). Khalid Nassour (Doctor Fate in DC comics) worked at Arkham Asylum under the payroll of Joker, albeit reluctantly. He was brought on to fix up Jason, and eventually he sneaks him out to help him heal.

Don't Let Them See You Cry by @daisyapples. Oh my god, you guys. Let me tell you. This series is vibrates in my brain to an insane degree. Shortly after Bucky breaks free from his Winter Soldier programming, he finds Jason and adopts him. It's so good, y'all. I literally drop everything to read this whenever it updates.

The Glue by sleepynarwhal. Daredevil is the one to mentor Spiderman instead in the MCU and it's very adorable how much Matt goes from reluctant mentor to embracing it, as well introducing him to the other Defenders.

the road home by @drakefeathers. Jason is homesick during his Lost Days Era world murder-tour and ends up returning home.

I'll Catch a Break Someday by @victory-in-the-skye. Fullmetal Alchemist crosses over with the MCU. It has Fem!Ed, which might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it definitely contributes to the story in a way that makes it interesting. The author does a fantastic job of capturing Ed's voice, even in first person! It's a series, but it hasn't been updated in a while and I hope the author is doing okay!

Arkham Compendium by @lananiscorner. If you're a fan of Arkhamverse, I cannot recommend this series enough. Focusing on Jason before, during, and after Arkham Knight, the author does a fantastic job of delving into Jason's psyche during the course of his life. Ill Weeds Grow Apace is my favorite of the series, focusing on Jason healing after Arkham Knight, and slowly reconnecting with his siblings. Lanani also has many other fantastic fics in DC, especially with Jason. While the author might not be in the fandom anymore, I will always be grateful for the fics that were written because they are masterpieces.

-she may act though on the outside but she is a total softie especially towards poppy

Muriel Thompson a decorated Scottish World War I ambulance driver, racing driver and suffragist was born on this day 1875.

Thompson was born on 10th June 1875 in Aberdeen, Scotland to Agnes Marion Williamson, the second wife of Cornelius Thompson, a shipowner and marine architect. She was the fifth of eight children. Her grandfather George Thompson had been Lord Provost of Aberdeen and an MP for the city.

Thompson was an avid motorist, and from an early age she drove the family car. She and her brothers helped found the Brooklands Automobile Racing Club. On 4 July 1908 she won the first ladies’ motor race held at Brookland, the Ladies’ Bracelet Handicap, she caused quite a stir by beating the wife of the racetrack’s owner with metres to spare.

After the race, Muriel was greeted by cries of “women deserve the vote now!” She agreed, and was hired as a chauffeur by the Women’s Social and Political Union. Driving a green Austin with white wheels and purple stripes – the suffragette colours – she took Emmeline Pankhurst on her 1909 national tour

Her daredevil driving skills proved lifesaving during the First World War. In 1915, she signed up to the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, and us Scots must have a slight snigger at the acronym, FANY.

Three months later, she was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Leopold II by King Albert of Belgium for evacuating wounded soldiers under fire. Alongside her Calais convoy, in 1917, she became one of the first women to drive for the British Army, who had until that point refused FANY’s services.

Thompers, as her colleagues called her, kept meticulous diaries while abroad. They reveal the horrors of war, but also the camaraderie and independence she experienced.

Muriel saved hundreds of lives during the war. In January 1918, she became Commanding Officer of the newly-formed St Omer convoy, and was awarded the Military Medal and the Croix de Guerre for her fearless fight to evacuate the injured during air raids.

Muriel returned to Britain two months before the war ended and resigned from FANY in 1922 – she was one of the bravest and best they had. Muriel died a few months before the Second World War broke out.

(as a side note I don’t share a lot of personally identifying info on here for a lot of reasons, don’t wanna be found out + professional reasons and tumblr is a great platform for having being a phannie as my main identity but I will occasionally overshare in the tags or random posts. for the most vague details I’m canadian and a poc ig? if you want to be friends or discuss anything in more detail im happy to share in dms just not in the general void lol)

some past fandoms I’ve been a part of tumblr or otherwise: avengers/marvel (this was in the peak in like 2016 and I followed it probably up until 2020 but dgaf anymore soz), marvel’s daredevil (their best show still love it), one direction/harry styles (harry was prob my biggest interest/fandom I was heavily involved in until like 2022 ish, i followed a bunch of accounts on my other blog and fan pages, went to his first solo tour in 2018, basically followed his every move- ik he’s not some underground artist but I lost interest when he kinda boomed and became SUPER popular I miss the early days of his solo era lol but still like his music), criminal minds, I think those are the main ones obv I lurk anytime I have a special interest lol

artists I like: twenty one pilots, arctic monkeys, the 1975, hozier, frank ocean, bad suns, muse, sufjan stevens, lana del rey, wallows, ed sheeran, lorde, zayn/hs/niall horan, paramore, the smiths, 5sos, kendrick lamar, fka twigs, fleetwood mac (this is off the top of my head just main ones ig there’s lots of other artists with specific songs I like and I also listen to my playlists from middle school often with p!atd and fob just the older stuff tho)

fave tv: derry girls, criminal minds, the office, gilmore girls, brooklyn 99, community, freaks and geeks, gossip girl, new girl, the end of the fucking world (short but a personal fave), fleabag, mindhunter- I like basic nbc sitcoms ok what can I say but currently watching Buffy and there’s lots of things on my watchlist like twin peaks I just never have time (aka always watching YouTube/dnp)

i like to think of myself as a cinephile when I really don’t watch as many movies as I’d like to bc of the same reasons listed above but I keep up with what’s happening in the film world and yeah some of my faves include: little women, sing street, before sunrise, aftersun, clueless, call me by your name, the perks of being a wallflower, big hero 6, la la land, zodiac, the social network, scream, the batman, bones and all, knives out, hp/twilight series

random interests: the scream franchise/saw/horror, until dawn (the game), youtube video essays, true crime content/criminology (in the most respectful way I promise I studied it and mean like actual data and researched podcasts not the weirdos that idolize certain people cough cough), perfumes/cosmetics, art, fashion, baking/food in gen, journaling, pinterest, reading (literary fiction/mystery/some ya)

The Spider-band (with lots of OCs!)

3 season 2 TV movie show in my head of Hobie, Gwen , Diane , Ansi , Artie (another Hobie) , and Percy in a Spider-band, going on their first world tour.

They're called Wicked Webs

They live on a tour bus, with Hobie's Daredevil, Riri, and Kamala tagging along as well as Angel, who does sound tech, Mariah and Pavi being their charismatic manager and stage manager.

The show is somewhat about their music and shows but it's mainly a It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia style comedy - about the shenanigans the band gets into during off time.

The bus breaking down in the middle of nowhere and they end up at the weirdddestt pub - they're sure they're about to get super murdered but somehow Ansi makes friends with the biker gang????

Hobie loses his guitar and it's the whole gang retracing his steps in the middle of snow-struck Fargo and Hobie can't understand anyone's accents.

A rotten egg gets stuck in the tour bus vent and they spend three hours trying to web it out.

Stuff like that.

Sacha and Tomoka are the wardrobe managers and Diane's variant Annie is the snappy make-up artist.

Asa is their recording manager who lives in New London with his kids, looking after the band when they're back legs of the tour, managing them recording songs in the studio, giving statements, setting up concerts etc.

And the whole thing is shot like a behind-the-scenes documentary.

They're a legit band about to go Platinum, they do talk shows and interviews and photoshoots that somehow always goes wrong because that band is a walking disaster but their music is ICONIC

They get in major trouble because they literally WRECKED the set during a Rolling Stones shoot with their mayhem

Umm. That. In my head. A lot of it. Lol

Podfic Recs!

One of my favorite things about fanfic is the existence of podfics. That said, I'm excited to share a few of my favorites with you! I tried to go for a wide range of fandoms so there should be something for everyone.

hello i need a spidermanism to riff off of for brainstorming purposes what’s a good reason for him to be in a new city. that’s kind of in california . alternately does he deal with much time travel or robots or time traveling robots

this is a super genre convention thing but almost every time he is in a different city there are like 3 ways to go about it. 1 he begged and pleaded jameson to pay for his plane ticket because there was some newsworthy event going on and he needed to fly there and photograph it. web of spiderman does this a lot with peter and joy mercado going to different locations in the world to report on dangerous events and spiderman also happens to fight a supervillain there too. 2 he just uses up all his rent money on a flight/asks someone richer like the avengers or f4 to borrow a jet to fly there himself. this is if he already has some motivation though, like when he flied to latveria to find the truth about his parents or was getting anonymous tips about acts of supervillainry across the globe addressed specifically to him. 3 hes just working with another hero for a teamup and they have access to some sort of transportation. happens a lot with the silver sable issues where he has to hang around in symkaria or whatnot for a while. he has gone to san francisco once back when daredevil and the black widow were situated there for a teamup but i dont quite remember why. perhaps to just hang out? there was also a bit in amazing spiderman where he was going on tour across the country to promote his book of spiderman photos, which is a specific case but they did milk it to have spiderman show up in different locations (which was explained by spiderman being a publicity stunt for the book. awesome).

now spiderman dealing with time travel and robots and such in his OWN series isnt very common. you wont see a spiderman movie or cartoon that isnt mcu or whatnot dealing with that much. but since he has so many crossovers with other heroes and gets trapped in big events he has a ton of experience with time travel and cosmic space and basically any other scifi/mystical setting. he gets around. in terms of time travel though the "tomorrow war" arc from marvel teamup comes to mind, and his crossovers with spiderman 2099 and the one time he met spidergirl also involve it somehow. tldr it doesnt happen a whole lot but if you need it to happen it isnt too hard. new york canonically has a lot more experimental time machines than youd expect, and even without those the fantastic four and dr doom have like 10 between them anyways.

Daredevil x Rise of the TMNT fic scribbles

I mean, the TMNT were originally riffs off of Daredevil to start with, why not mix them further?

Tl:Dr: swap Master Splinter and Baron Draxum for Stick. Feat. Warrior cats mindset! Catholic Matt. Matt is still screwed up, but now he's the semi responsible adult sibling to the Turtles. Found family wins again!

Lou Jitsu was on the Battle Nexus and refused to fight. Big Mama was pissed and she loaned him to Baron Draxum for experiments.

Baron was illegally working on super serum, had to take the jar of Mutagen across the Hidden City but decided to take a shortcut and go top side into NYC.

Then there's the car crash that Matt was involved in.

Baron gets word that his Mutagen got in contact with a human. At first he's like "oh NO I made a Powerful Human he is going to Lead all Humans to destroy the Hidden City!" Then Huginn and Muninn report back. "Oh. A child."

Lou, "A CHILD?!?"

"well. I suppose he's an interesting case study. We'll check in. If it doesn't kill him in the we train him."

so. After Matt's adjustment therapy, Lou and Draxum go and scope him out. Draxum is wearing a disguise medallion. Jack Murdock is absolutely pissed that these sly guys were the ones that were transporting the chemicals and very angrily prevents them from seeing Matt and testing him.

Matt is in the other room but can hear them argue. And he can hear Draxum's hoof feet even though they are disguised. Like any Good Catholic Child, he thinks a Demon is after him.

Later Jack gets murdered and he's placed at St. Agatha's with the nuns. Matt's senses get overwhelmed. Maggie finds the contact information for Draxum and Lou.

Draxum is like "YES! FREE SPY FOR THE EVIL HUMANS."

Lou is like, "oh. Sad kid that just lost his only parent."

So now Matt is getting a little screwed up with Draxum going, "You shall be my ultimate weapon!" And Lou going, "Lol, no. I'll train you to cope with your senses but it's really up to you to figure out who you are."

Some important conversations: "I prefer to call them Yokai. Demons imply they have a purpose and intentions of being evil. Yokai are just. Weird people, but still people." Matt doesn't particularly believe him, but Lou takes him to Senor Hueso's pizza, a few trips into safe areas of the Hidden City to acclimate him.

Matt, being a dramatic Catholic teenager, kind of just takes it like he's Dante from the Divine Comedy. Touring Hell. He's trying to not lose his religion while having his world shaken, and just shoves down any revelations very deep.

Matt honestly thinks Lou is a lost soul who made a deal with the Devil and is just trying to tempt him into making one as well. It's funny but also messed up. When Lou hears of this, he laughs but also. "Made my choices, spited my grandfather, lost a bit of myself."

Now Matt thinks Lou is a Fallen Angel trying to get back up/save himself by making sure Matt doesn't Fall.

Lou is having revelations about his childhood, what he was trained for. Matt, intentionally or not, is his "first kid" and there's some mistakes. Of course they're also tempered with Matt already had a normal single parent childhood.

Draxum is like, great first trial, I will ensure that my new batch of Mutant Warriors will not go blind. And hey! Lou, you are great with training! Do you want to name the second one of our new four turtle child warriors?

Lou, in fact, did not want to name one. He didn't want any kids growing up to be soldiers. So, like in ROTTMNT, he breaks free, gets mutated, steals the baby turtles, and runs. after a few days he's able to locate Matt.

Matt, who was waiting for too long with a long string of folded gum wrappers and origami. The turtles reach up out of his sling and start chewing on the paper. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting, Matt. Draxum's lab is destroyed. There are no more soldiers. You will not have to fight. It will be a long time before he can start again. I have to go."

"The soldiers?" Matt gently picks up a turtle.

"No. My kids. Your cousins, I suppose. Another version of the mutagen that affected you-" Matt touches his hands, feeling the sharp nails and fur, "also affects us."

A few days later Splinter ninjas a blank piece of paper in his pocket that he can feel a number on.

Matt calls Splinter every week. He has slightly less abandonment issues than comic canon Matt due to this contact. Nun Maggie helps him pick over the donation boxes for different colored blankets. "Oh. I'm just trying to help. He's better at sight than me and worse than you. He's color-coding his kids." Matt also likes to pick out donations for Splinter to take down into the sewers.

Splinter's nose is also affected by the mutation, so he makes sure their sewer home isn't too bad on the nose. The mildew he can live with.

Matt ends up babysitting the Turtles as well. He explained that "Splinter" was a guy that worked with him to help manage his blindness, and eventually he adopted several "special needs" children. The kids even call him to ask for advice when they need it.

Matt makes it to college and practices Spanish over the phone with Leo. Foggy knows about the calls, and sometimes does answer the phone and talk to the Turtles when Matt says it's fine.

Some special days in winter, they wrap themselves up in big coats and have snow days. It's Matt's job to pick up the hot cocoa, and one time Raphael went with him, all wrapped up so he can experience ordering too.

Foggy eventually does get brought into the secret, when the kids break into the college campus at night because "they miss him". Foggy was at first kind of shocked, tried to justify it as "right, he's blind he doesn't know-" and Matt's like, "Yeah they're turtles. There's weirder things that go on in NYC."

and Foggy just has a sudden lightning bolt "oh" moment. A distinct, repressed childhood memory of "a monster" casually arguing with his father at the family butcher shop. That was normal. Plenty of people argue at the shop.

Foggy calls his father the next day and they argue for a hot second. "They're New Yorkers! Paying customers! I'm not turning them out just because of fangs!" "But you didn't tell me?" Unrelated, but after that Matt somehow can't look at him without smirking.

Because the Turtles are getting more and more adventurous by the day, Matt does take some time to go collecting with them, taking them to Senor Hueso's. ("OH MY GOD, MATT IS THAT WHERE THAT WORM PIZZA CAME FROM?" "The man grows his own worms. I can't pass up that kind of quality." "You are terrible.")

Matt would absolutely have beef with Baron Draxum and probably mock up a Custody Battle between Draxum and Splinter if it came down to it. He is literally physical evidence that Draxum has been disobeying Hidden City laws.

...i really don't know what else to do with the premise aside from cute family things. I mean, Matt definitely is the Elder Cousin to the Turtles, Eldest Daughter syndrome in full swing putting a little pressure off of Raphael. But the plots for ROTTMNT and Daredevil probably wouldn't change.

Matt wouldn't involve Splinter or the Turtles in his fight against Wilson Fisk/the Hand because he thinks they still need a childhood. The Turtles didn't tell Splinter about Draxum's return or the Foot at all, why would they tell Matt? So aside from collateral damage, the story-lines don't really converge.

(yes Matt gets a Hamato Mystical Power Boost. No I don't know what it is.)

More Than Meets the Eye: Karliah had saved the Dragonborn after Mercer's betrayal. She quickly learns that there is more to her than what she initially thought.

Knights Versus Knights: The Batfamily of the Gotham Knights Game universe come face to face with the Arkahmverse Batfamily. It's pretty clear how fractured the Arkahmverse team is.

Chapter Summary/Warnings: Frank's taken by Rawlins' men

Frank was in a conference room with Madani, Micro was sitting in a room with his daughter so that left you to pace the hallway while half a dozen agents watched you like you were an insane person. Your mind hadn't stopped throwing every worse case scenario at you.

What if Billy went after Alice and Kenzie? God what if he went after Karen? Matt could fight but every form of martial arts in the world couldn't stop a bullet. Why had he done this? What type of man was he to hold you in his arms, comfort you, all the while knowing he was at the very least partially responsible for your pain?

Your attention was drawn by the door of the conference room opening. You spun around and saw Frank walking out. "Finally. I need to double check my work on you" that was the only way you could think to get a moment alone with him but Dinah shook her head "I need to speak to you first then you can patch up anyone in this building for all I care" you cut your eyes at Frank and saw the anger flash through his eyes at her pulling you into the questioning. You touched his shoulder gently on the way by "I got this"

You knew he was standing in the hall but walked in the room and let Dinah shut the door behind you. The two of you stood there for a second whether you were sizing each other up or just catching your breath you weren't sure.

She finally waved a hand towards the table "Want to sit?" You crossed your arms "I have nothing to say that goes on record" she nodded and you could see her rolling her tongue across her bottom teeth which was probably just a habit. "If you have something to ask me, ask it. If not I'm walking out of here and going to check on Frank"

She must have taken you at your word because she finally spoke "Did you know Frank killed Zubair?" "Yes" your response didn't seem to surprise her that much. Her next question did surprise you however. "What's the story with you and Russo?"

"Excuse me?" You asked uncrossing your arms. "Just seems you're smack in the middle of this. You were dating Billy during their time on operation Cerberus. The two of you were serious enough you were mentioned in his paperwork he signed on his last tour. You grew up with Frank's late wife"

You laughed and shook your head "Jesus Christ, Dinah really? Yeah Maria met me when I was young, I was a kid with a shitty home life. She made friends with me and eventually her parents took me in. Meeting Frank and Billy both was just a side effect of basically being Maria's sister. I haven't spoken to Billy outside of him calling to see if I was dead or alive after the bombs went off since right after Frank's family was massacred. You were the one most recently fucking him so should I be questioning you here?"

She was silent for a moment then opened the door "Had to ask, just to make sure" you met her eyes for a moment then nodded and walked through the door. She stopped you with a hand on your arm. You looked from it to her and she held her hand out "Only agents are allowed to be armed in here" you rolled your eyes but handed the gun over nonetheless. 

You watched her walk to her office and saw which drawer she locked it in before going to find Frank.

You and Frank were in an empty office. He was sitting on the desk with his shirt next to him so you could double check the stitches you'd put in his side after the bombing at the hotel. "Y/N" you knew every tone of voice and what it meant from him so you shook your head "I don't want to talk about him Frank"

Once you were done you pulled your bag back on and started to walk out the room but Frank stopped you "Sweetheart, we need to talk" you could feel the tears stinging your eyes when you turned to look at him "About how I was dumb enough to fall in love with someone evil enough to allow our family to be killed?" He closed his eyes then pulled you into a hug "You aren't dumb. I trusted him too but I promise he will pay for every ounce of pain he's caused you" "I still can't believe he betrayed us" you spoke into his chest. "I know sweetheart, I know"

Frank asked to talk to you alone before him and Micro with the team to recover Sarah and Zach. 

Leo was watching you carefully after Micro explained she'd be staying with you at Homeland so you smiled at her before following Frank out into the hall. 

"Y/N you know you're like a sister to me" you got an awful feeling of a goodbye from his words but didn't voice that fear. He pulled you into a tight hug then said "I'm getting Sarah and Zach back and giving Madani enough to bring down everything. Promise me no matter what happens you won't let yourself have any guilt. Maria loved you. Our kids loved you. I love you" 

"I love you too Frank" you spoke into his shoulder before he patted your back once more then released you "Madani is keeping you here as the medic for their team once they get back. Here's hoping it goes well enough you're not needed" you breathed out a mixture of a sigh and a laugh "here's hoping. Kick their asses Frank"

You were sitting with Leo when Sarah and Zach were escorted into the room so you slid out while to give the family a moment alone.

You spotted Dinah and Micro walking down the hall but no sign of Frank "Where's Frank?" You asked Dinah who pointed at Micro "ask him" you turned to look at him "Ok, David where is Frank?"

He wouldn't meet your face when he said "I made him a promise to let him finish this his way" you tried to hold your anger, you really did but that meant Frank was knowing facing Billy, Rawlins and God knows who or what else.

"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN LIEBERMAN? WHERE THE FUCK IS HE?" you screamed trying to stop yourself from throwing a punch.

You should've known that self sacrificing son of a bitch would pull something like this. He had been saying goodbye and you'd been too big of a coward to face it.

Dinah grabbed your arm and when you sent her a glare she quickly let go but pointed down the hall "Let's grab a cup of coffee. You need to calm down" "and he needs to tell us where Frank is before I shoot him for real" you didn't care that you'd just threatened someone in front of this many agents.

"How did you get your gun back?" She asked with a shocked look and you shrugged "I picked the drawer you locked it up in" she scoffed at that "I think Frank is actually your brother. Now let's go get that damn coffee and talk"

You looked at Sarah who'd just stepped into the hall stood by while you blew up at her husband "Please talk him into telling me. Frank is my family and I can't lose him" she gave the slightest movement of her head in response so you begrudgingly followed Madani down the hall.

She handed you a cup of coffee and grabbed one for herself. You were still watching Micro until him and Sarah stepped into the room the kids were in. "It's not your fault. None of this" you laughed and said "Stick with being an agent, I already have a shrink who's probably flipping her shit along with her fiancee and a few other of my friends at my sudden disappearance"

"Do you want to call them?" She asked and you nodded "I'll call one. He'll spread the word that I'm safe just unreachable" you stepped away from her to call Curtis but broke down crying when you heard his voice "Y/N? Is everything ok?" 

"It's a shit show Curt. Look I just called to say I'm safe, please let everyone else know that" you could tell he wanted to ask more but he simply said "Ok" "Bye Curt" you hung up before he could say anything else.

You were pacing the hall in front of the room the Liebermans were in. You felt like you were the only person here who cared Frank was being killed while all of you sat around.

You finally opened the door but before you could speak you saw the kids and Sarah was asleep so you jerked your head towards the hall for Micro to follow you.

Once he'd shut the door you didn't try to hold back the tears "David please. He's my family, he's the only tie to Maria I have left. I can't lose him. Please tell me where he is" he nodded "C'mon" and walked towards Dinah's office.

The three of you stood around the computer screen as Micro typed a thousand different things then a video from inside the hideout started to play and your stomach lurched. Frank was tied to a chair and someone who you were guessing was Rawlins was beating him while Billy stood by. 

You felt the pure dread that had been sitting like a rock in your stomach turn to rage. How dare he? He was just standing there while Rawlins killed Frank. Was he that big of a coward?

"Where is this?" Dinah demanded so you looked at Micro "If you don't tell her I will" then looked back at her "we're going with you" "no you're not" "bullshit we aren't"

She finally sighed and said "Fine but you were vests and you go unarmed" you shook your head "I'll wear a vest but I'm taking my gun" she stared at you then shrugged "NYPD knows you're licensed"

You and Micro were supposed to stay behind Dinah but like you were going to follow orders. You weren't an agent. 

You saw Billy standing over Frank and Rawlins body and reacted without thinking. "Y/N!" Dinah hollered when the shot rang out. "Shit" you realized you'd simply caught his arm but part of you felt vindicated to know you'd drawn at least a little blood from Billy.

You ran to Frank's side then glanced over at Rawlins still form and felt an intense urge to shoot him even though he was clearly dead but your attention was on Frank. "He's drowning on his own blood" you knew you couldn't handle this. You needed a surgeon. Your hands moved quickly over Frank's chest clocking every injury you could see. You moved Micro's hand into position to take some pressure off his chest but there wasn't a lot you could do on your own.

"I can't save him David" you sounded broken even to your own ears.  When Madani said they called an ambulance Micro beat you to it by saying "No. hospitals mean cops. He needs help. My friend is dying for your justice. Why don't you give him some?"

You didn't know if it was just the culmination of the last few shocks to your system but you looked up from Frank your hands slick with his blood and said "If you're gonna let him die here Dinah..you're going to want to kill me too. His death won't go unanswered. He trusted you. Prove to be worthy of that"

Micro god bless him was trying everything to get Frank to wake up "C'mon Frank I betrayed you! I bought them here. I bought Y/N here! Wake up call me an asshole. Call me a son of a bitch. Come on!"

You laid your head over on Frank's shoulder that was closest to you "Come on Frank. I've already lived with thinking I've lost you once. Don't leave me too, please don't leave me too"

He coughed and jerked then opened his eyes. You started crying harder when Micro said "That's it you beautiful scary man"

"Help me get him up" Dinah finally said after you heard her talking across the radio. You shot her a questioning look so she said "I'm helping him. Trust me please?"

You didn't know where she'd taken all of you until you were going through the door and she was yelling "Dad! I need your help!"

Her dad and mom ran in "Dinah who is this man?" Her dad asked while her mom said "What you bought to our door?" You weren't above begging so you looked at her dad "Please help him!"

He nodded and pointed towards a door "Get him on the bed"

After Micro told Dinah's dad how Frank had gotten his injuries you told him you were a paramedic and offered to help "Get gloves on" 

You were through gloving up when Dinah's dad looked up at you "His broken rib punctured a lung. He's got a tension pneumothorax" you grabbed a needle and handed it to him while everyone around the bed watched. He held his hand out for the syringe once the needle was in so you handed it over and breathed a sigh of relief when he drew the blood out and Frank started back breathing.

"Thank you" you said and he shook his head "He needs blood" "I'm a universal donor" Micro or well guess you should start calling him David volunteered. You shot him a small smile while Dinah's dad hooked him up.

The next morning you were sitting in the windowsill when Frank woke up. The first thing out of his mouth was "Madani, did you get Russo?" She shook her head then glanced over her shoulder at you "Y/N did shoot him" "attagirl" he said weakly.

After he'd been given the ok to leave on his feet David asked for a moment to talk to Frank so you stepped in the hall. Dinah's mom walked past so you said "Ma'am, I'd like to thank you and your husband for helping us. He's not who the media portrays him to be" she nodded "You made an impression on my daughter it seems. She trusts you, so I do"

Dinah walked up and smiled at you "Feeling better?" You raised an eyebrow "My brother by proxy was nearly killed and turns out the one man I've loved knew my sister, niece and nephew were gonna get murdered. I'm great" 

You walked back in the room with Dinah. Frank and David looked up and you knew Frank well enough to know there was something he wanted to tell you but didn't ask since you were in front of other people.

You walked down to the sidewalk with Frank. He didn't want to endanger you but he needed to talk to you so the two of you were taking the long way around to where the van had been left "Y/N.. I need to tell you something. I mean I heard Rawlins say something to Bill" you waited for him to say more so you finally asked "What did he say?"

"That Bill was a stupid grunt willing to do anything to make sure his little whore medic stayed alive" you stopped walking "What's that mean? How am I involved in this?" Your mind was reeling. Finally you shook your head "Nope. You must have imagined it" he stared at you for a second then said "Bill told me it wasn't supposed to be like this. Maria and the kids weren't supposed to be in the middle. He said he was trying to keep you out of it. Rawlins said it too more or less" 

"He's lying! He's trying to keep you from killing him! That's all!" You were fighting to keep your voice down. You refused to let yourself believe there was any good left in Billy. Frank finally said "Ok" so the two of you started back walking. Right before you cut off to head towards your apartment like he'd asked you to you said "make me a promise?"

He raised one eyebrow "depends" you made sure to keep your voice steady as you said "Don't let him use me to make you falter. I want you to have an after too Frank..you deserve it" you started to walk away but Frank's response of "I do think he actually loved you and you shouldn't feel guilty for loving him" made you freeze. You looked back at him and said "Even if he did love me and even though a part of me will always love him it doesn't change anything" then kissed him on the cheek "Make it out alive Frank" and walked away.

Earth X #6

Wherein apparently Chewbacca joins the X-Men?

After seeing Storm and Beast in Wakanda, Cyclops depressed and alone, and Jean and Wolverine living together, we finally get to learn more about how the X-Men are doing on Earth X.

Long story short: there are no X-Men.

There’s no X-Men, no Fantastic Four, no Avengers, and not much hope. All the heroes are dead or retired or in the clutches of villains. A mind control squid and mind control kid are running amok. Uatu the Watcher has been blinded and is forcing Aaron Stack to be his seeing eye robot. Vibranium is maybe destroying the planet. A mass empowering event is evolving all of humanity on their way to becoming super gods. And Norman Osborn is president.

Earth-X is a mess.

Doom Reed arrives from his own subplot to look for Cerebro in the ruins of Xavier’s mansion.

What happened to the X-Men? Well, Professor X died. When the Skull’s powers activated, it sent out a psychic pulse that killed all the psychics. Jean lost her powers before hand so she could be in that domestic scene with Wolverine but other then that…

Without Professor X and with a world where mutation was the norm, the X-Men just lost their purpose and drifted apart.

Well, some of them. The appendix in the back lists out some prominent X characters and what they’re up to or not.

Iceman: his mutant power changed so that he can only live in the Arctic.

Angel: Lost all his money somehow. Flies around the country like a vagabond guardian angel, saving people. Really happy with his life.

Magneto: lives alone with Toad in a city made out of broken Sentinels. For reasons unexplained, he bows to Toad now.

Banshee: sibling rivalry finally killed him.

Multiple Man: he has dupes in every city on Earth and they share information amongst themselves. Acts as an information broker for anyone willing to pay.

Nightcrawler: something happened to Excalibur. Kurt survived but lost his mutant power. An angry mob mistook him as an unmutated human and beat him to death. Eesh.

Gambit: he and Rogue kissed each other to death from the sound of it.

Dazzler: still touring but her career is in decline because people don’t care about disco anymore.

Kitty Pryde: Took a bullet for a temporarily depowered Colossus.

Cable: Something happened with his techno-organic virus.

Nate Grey: He became Stryfe and then died trying to save Madelyne Pryor who died anyway because of the psychic backlash from the Skull.

Longshot: It is a mystery.

And as noted in previous issues, several members of X-Force have wound up under the Skull’s thumb.

Times is bad.

But apparently Captain America came up with a plan off-panel after circus Daredevil offered to become his new sidekick.

Cap sent Daredevil’s circus buddies to Cyclops so he can train them as a new X-Men team.

Being that this is Marvel, they tried to randomly attack Cyclops to prove they didn’t need training and being that Cyclops is Cyclops, he kicks their asses.

Then he starts training them in a tire warehouse because the X-Mansion is a ruin.

Not really impressed with this group. One of them just has two heads. That’s his power.

Elsewhere, Thor has suddenly joined the Clea/Hulk subplot from last time.

Thor is just here now. Usually in Earth X there’s been more rhyme and reason to how characters move around in the plot.

Clea warns that any soul entering Death’s realm can never leave again. Which both I and Thor call BS on.

This is a comic book universe, Clea. People constantly come back to life.

Either way, Bruce nominates gorilla Hulk to go. He doesn’t have his own soul so it’s a safe bet.

(Why do I feel like this entire bonkers ass child and gorilla separation is just for this plot point?)

We also get some more face time with Tony.

The Iron Avengers go through a sanitation process when they return from their mission, showing Tony’s continuing paranoia about the mass empowering event.

And Vision criticizes Tony for working with (for?) Norman Osborn. A blood-soaked monster.

Tony argues that he himself proves there’s hope that blood-soaked monsters can change.

And anyway, with America in shambles, he needs to cooperate with Osborn to keep the government off his ass.

I’m not really sure how much government exists at this point. There’s no Congress and Norman wasn’t elected, he just said he was president and everyone just decided that was fine.

But Tony argues that the work he’s doing, the inventions he’s providing, are doing more good than he ever did as Iron Man.

And Vision argues that what the world needs is a hero like Iron Man but that Tony has isolated himself too much to see it.

I like to think that Tony is going to save the day in a big way. Earth X started with a bunch of old heroes depressed but spurred into action by one thing or another.

Speaking of depressed, Peter Parker.

Despite their fight in a previous issue, Peter has gone out after May.

He tries to give her the great power great responsibility lecture but she grew up hearing it. She’s internalized it. She’s out here as Venom to stop the bad things so that Peter doesn’t have to get Uncle Benned to motivate her to be a hero. Because she’s already doing it!

I like the cut of her jib but her costume hurts my eyes.

And back around to Captain America and his sidekick circus Daredevil.

They’re hitching a ride with the Skull’s army as it travels by train to New York. Because the Skull decided not to take control of Cap, for the lols. And Daredevil is immune? Beneath notice? Who can say.

Uatu discusses that the Skull is part of the Celestial’s plan. With all of humanity super mutating, they could accidentally wipe themselves out or destroy Earth. But the Skull is bringing everyone under his control, unknowingly reducing the risk of the Celestial’s plan derailing.

I suspect that killing off all the psychics was also part of the plan somehow.

But Uatu also gets so sick of Aaron’s backtalk and not understanding things immediately that he browbeats the Machine Man into erasing his own personality.

Geez.

You’re a dick, Uatu.
