The Kyiv Independent presents its new documentary, "Shadows Across the River," which provides a rare glimpse into Russia's ongoing terror in the occupied territories of Ukraine. Through personal stories and firsthand accounts, the film's author, Danylo Mokryk, reveals the horrific realities of life under occupation on the east bank of the Dnipro River in the southern Kherson Oblast since 2022. The film uncovers how Russian soldiers and occupational authorities terrorize the local community, including the tragic case of Ruslan Rusnak, who was taken from his home in the village of Hornostaivka and met a heartbreaking fate in November 2023.

"NEVER AGAIN!", the Westerners said each May since the end of the WW2. And will undoubtedly say in less than 2 months.
Meanwhile, the "AGAIN" is happening right now. In the middle of Europe. In a country right at the borders of the EU and NATO.
The city of Mariupol is besieged and constantly shelled by Russians. Air strikes and bombings don't stop either (most of you saw the videos and pictures from an airstrike at the Mariupol maternity hospital a few days ago). And the occupants don't allow an evacuation or a humanitarian aid pass.
The official death toll of civilians in Mariupol alone is of more than 1,500 as of now - but the actual number may already be much, much higher. The dead are being buried in mass graves - there's no other way right now.
The "AGAIN" is happening right now.
What about the "NEVER" then?
Yesterday the US President Joe Biden stated it more clearly than ever before: "We will protect every inch of the NATO territory even if it means fighting a World War III. But we will not fight the World War III in Ukraine".
Does that imply that the famous "Never again!" covered only the NATO space?
Is that the logic? If it's in a NATO country - it's "Never again!". If it's an inch further - well then... We'll probably not even cut the aggressor's biggest bank (Sberbank) from the SWIFT system, it may be too inconvenient. And those MiG-29 fighter jets? Actually, we think Ukraine doesn't really need them.
Is that how it was ever supposed to work?
Will the "Never again!" ever sound the same after the war in Ukraine?

In one of our earlier documentaries examining the genocidal nature of Russia’s war against Ukraine, Johns Hopkins University scholar Eugene Finkel predicted: “We know about Izium, Bucha, Borodianka, Irpin, and Kherson because those places were liberated. I’m absolutely convinced that when the Ukrainian army reaches places like Melitopol, we will see mass graves and evidence of mass murder. We just don’t have access to those places yet.” This access will come only when Ukrainian territories are freed from Russian control. Any so-called "peace plan" that leaves them under Russia’s grip will only entrench the terror, conceal it beneath propaganda, and render justice impossible. This is not an abstract issue; it’s about the lives of real people. To leave them under Russian control is to condemn them to countless tragedies, burying them under the guise of "peace." —Danylo Mokryk, journalist at the Kyiv Independent

Danylo Mokryk: Say the word ‘genocide’
In the spring of 2022, right after Russia’s atrocities in Bucha were exposed, several Western leaders uttered the term “genocide.” U.S. President Joe Biden, former U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, f Source : kyivindependent.com/danylo-mo…

Danylo Mokryk (famous investigative journalist)
“To my foreign friends. You might think that the ongoing Russia's attack on Ukraine is something from another world. That it is sad indeed yet none of your actual concern. That it makes no real difference to you in Europe or America if Ukraine is occupied by a totalitarian killer regime. "Well, Ukraine is a post-soviet country struggling with corruption and I don't really know how it is so much different from Russia", you might also think. You might. But such a thinking would be tragically false. The Putin's bell is tolling for you as well.Putin isn't directing his bombs and troops against Ukraine. He is directing them against choice, against freedom and against independence. His goal is not only to subdue Ukraine. He wants more darkness in the world, because only darkness allows him to rule.If Ukraine falls, the darkness will spread further. It will reach you. And the cost of fighting it would be immense.Just listen to his declaration of war, published early in the morning. Listen closely. And you will not only hear it - you will physically feel it.It is in no way an exaggeration to compare Putin to Hitler. He is the Hitler of our days.I strongly believe it is in the whole world's best interest to do everything you can to stop him.Act now in any way you can.Gather in rallies on the streets of your cities. Address your governments and politicians. Spread the word. Find your own words or share this post.Ukraine is not an island. And neither are you.”
