PAGE 6: Panel 1: (Medium to small sized shot, Waspinator has succeeded in freeing the human, who is scuttling out of the way but now, the Fox Kids Tarantulas drone has Waspy on the ground, and is mauling him – bits flying everywhere – including Waspy’s gun (this is important, we have to see the gun fly off)).

Panel 2: (Medium shot. The drone has climbed the tree and has one of the male children by the leg. It’s panicking. Frankly, this shot needs to look like the scene in Psycho, when Janet Leigh is in the shower and we see Bate’s silhouette on the curtain. Because we all know what’s coming next for that kid).

Panel 3: (Small, but dramatic panel. The Protohuman male is holding Waspy’s gun. Pointed at the reader. It’s your classic “do you feel lucky, punk?” pose. He’s growling. There is a missile fired (so we see the smoke behind the missile, it’s approaching the reader).

Panel 4: (large and wide shot, we see Waspy’s body crawling towards his head, the protohuman with the gun, the FKT drone twitching on the ground with a large smoking hole in it. The remaining kids scared witless. There might be blood on the FKT drone. Or not, it’s up to the artist. The FKT drone is like a dying spider, legs in the air).

Panel 5: (Small shot, Waspinator is holding his head into place as he transforms. He’s mid-transformation, and it’s obviously painful) Waspinator:  Beaszzt MooorAAGGH!

Panel 6: (Large and wide shot. Waspy, looking very worse for wear, has the kids in his arms, they’re clinging to him and he’s being very protective of them. He is looked down at them, and has them protectively wrapped in his arms, creating a cat’s cradle around them) Waspy (to the kids):  Uncle Waszzpinator will make you szzafe.  Am very, very szzorry.

Panel 7: (The male protohuman is approaching with a bundle in his arms. It’s obviously the dead child (but we needn’t see it). Both the male and Waspy look very sad. There is a tear in his eye, just the one, rolling down his cheek close to the reader. It’s a significant scene, showing how deeply Waspinator is affected by the death, and what drives his later actions) Waspy (to the proto-male):  Take them home.  Will make Eight-Legszz PAY.

The Justice Department’s recent instruction to drop corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams has prompted a wave of resignations from key federal prosecutors on Thursday, including one attorney who said the order “amounted to a quid pro quo.” That sentiment was expressed in a lengthy resignation letter from Manhattan U.S. attorney Danielle Sassoon to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on Thursday after a tense few days at the Department of Justice. Sassoon, a Yale Law School alum who once clerked for the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, was only in the role for a few weeks. She was quickly ushered into the U.S. attorney’s office in New York after Trump was inaugurated. She held the position on a temporary basis while Trump’s permanent nominee for the role, Jay Clayton, awaits confirmation by the Senate. In addition to Sassoon, two prosecutors who oversee public integrity divisions at the DOJ in Washington, D.C., resigned on Thursday: Kevin Driscoll and John Keller. Adams’ case was transferred to that division after acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove demanded Adams’ charges be dropped. Adams was indicted last year for bribery, fraud and soliciting foreign campaign donations. He pleaded not guilty and was headed to trial this spring.

Bove, The Associated Press reported Tuesday, wanted Adams’ charges dropped because he believed if the mayor had to face them, it would distract him from devoting his “full attention and resources to the illegal immigration and violent crime that has escalated under the policies of the prior Administration,” according to a memo obtained by the outlet.

Happy to see attorneys resign in protest rather than carry out the lawless and immoral demand to drop corruption charges against Eric Adams.

wada sez: When Fox Kids reran the Beast Wars cartoon, Hasbro produced a line of redecos to coincide with it; the so-called “Steel Force” Tarantulas figure is used as reference here. See below for the original script; as originally written, Waspinator’s plot thread in these pages would have been interspersed with the other character pages, making this Page 4 of the comic.

(Page 4) Panel 1: (Large panel, a trio of proto-human children are being threatened by a Fox Kids Tarantulas drone. They’ve climbed up a tree, but the drone is beginning to climb the tree as well. Waspinator and the proto-human are in the background (the proto-human is on Waspy’s back), racing to their rescue. Night is falling (or it’s storming. Whichever fits best. I want the setting to be ominous and dark. The children are two boys and a girl. I would rather they not be Jak and Una, because that clearly shows the third child as the “red shirt”, I’d rather there be a sense of threat to all three.))

Panel 2: (Small panel, the protohuman has leapt off Waspy’s back, and is flying through the air hammer/axe/club raised high. He’s screaming a silent battle cry. This should be a dramatic action shot)

Panel 3: (Medium Sized panel, the protohuman is on the FKT drone’s back, doing some slight damage. It’s bucking like a bull. Waspy is hovering near the tree, trying to rescue the kids).

Panel 4: (Small panel, Waspy is head on, the kids’ backs to the reader, they’re pelting Waspy with rocks and sticks. One is pointing “out of panel” towards where the FKT drone is fighting(over Waspy’s shoulder)). Waspy:  Why doing thiszz?  Am HELPING! Waspy:  WHAT??

Panel 5: (Medium sized panel, the FKT drone has the protohuman pinned down. We see it roughly from the proto’s POV (we see his head, and he has his arm up to protect himself), the FKT is HUGE and drooling ominously).

Panel 6: (Medium sized panel, top down shot of the above. Waspy has the FKT drone by the head, and is pulling backwards with all his strength. His wings are a blur. His face, which we can see because his back is arched out of exertion, is pained. He’s trying valiantly to protect the human). Waspy:  NO MORE KILLING!!!

Fortnight of Books 2024: Day 13

Favorite passage/quote of 2024:

I was trying to think of a book or quote, and then I finally remembered that The Secret Garden had several passages that moved me or struck me as beautiful and insightful and wise. Here’s one I found when looking up quotes from the book, which I remember noticing as stunningly beautiful when I read it in the spring of 2024:

“One of the strange things about living in the world is that it is only now and then one is quite sure one is going to live forever and ever and ever. One knows it sometimes when one gets up at the tender solemn dawn-time and goes out and stands out and throws one's head far back and looks up and up and watches the pale sky slowly changing and flushing and marvelous unknown things happening until the East almost makes one cry out and one's heart stands still at the strange unchanging majesty of the rising of the sun--which has been happening every morning for thousands and thousands and thousands of years. One knows it then for a moment or so. And one knows it sometimes when one stands by oneself in a wood at sunset and the mysterious deep gold stillness slanting through and under the branches seems to be saying slowly again and again something one cannot quite hear, however much one tries. Book which had the overall greatest impact on you this year:

I haven’t finished it yet, but A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller is a beautiful glimpse into the character of Jesus and his love for us as his children and his sheep. It’s a classic book written by a real shepherd and pastor that has encouraged many generations of Christians. I found it very informative in providing education about what sheep and sheep-keeping are really like, to provide insight into scripture from a historical and farming perspective. And I thought the author’s heart and writing really captured the heart of Christ. 

Another Christian nonfiction book that impacted me this year was One Hour with Daniel by Susan Kauffman. It’s short and powerful, and I devoured it. The author is a family friend of ours. She imagines a scenario in which she spends one hour talking to Daniel from the Bible, looking to his story to provide comfort and insight on suffering in her own life story and the reader’s life. It was very interesting, it touched me, it made me think, it made me cry, and it even made me laugh.
