De vez en cuando aparece alguna película o serie que parece irrelevante y, al final, acaba convirtiéndose en una de las sorpresas del año. “Todo en todas partes y al mismo tiempo” (Everything Everywhere All At Once, 2022) es una de esas sorpresas de las que todo el mundo habla de tal modo que su visionado resulta imprescindible. A tal grado ha llegado su impacto que se convirtió en la primera película de ciencia ficción en ganar el Oscar principal, además del destinado al mejor director (compartido entre Dan Kwan y Daniel Scheinert, también conocidos como “Los Daniels”) y a tres de sus actores: Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan y Jamie Lee Curtis. Tan sólo cinco (la película ganó además el premio al Mejor Guion Original y al Mejor Montaje) de una lista que ya parece interminable.

Yeoh interpreta a Evelyn Wang, una mujer de origen chino que padece el mal presente de su negocio, una lavandería, y el infierno fiscal. Imprevistamente se encuentra con un hombre muy parecido a su marido que le advierte de un incidente que afecta todos los universos existentes. Locura total que se confirma cuando hasta la encargada del fisco parece transformarse en una asesina implacable. Sólo hay que apreciar la película para entender (si se puede) el desquiciado multiverso que deja entrever.

Un personaje esencial es esta caótica historia es el de Joy, la hija de los Wang, que cae con su novia justo al tiempo que aparece su abuelo materno (James Hong). En este universo, Joy no tiene una buena relación con su progenitora; en otros, detrás de esa chica rebelde, se esconde alguien tan caprichoso como peligroso. Contar más sería caer en el spoiler, una verdadera lástima que esta producción no se merece.
