Inspirational Indian Movies

So I’ve frequently noticed on Tumblr, Indian movies are quickly becoming a popular thing. So as an Indian myself, I wanted to make some quick summaries and notes about which movies are inspirational and definitely life changing.

1) Dangal

Some of you may have already heard of this one, at least I know I’ve seen some pictures floating around.

This movie talks about the first Indian female to win a international gold medal in wrestling. What’s really amazing about this story? The girl starts off as a typical small town village girl. Her father was a pro-wrestler himself when he was younger, but he was never able to win the gold medal. Devastate, the father wishes for a son so he can carry on his dreams. But, every time his wife has a baby, a daughter came out and eventually the father left his dreams behind thinking they would never come true.

One day, two of his daughters come back home with two very beaten up boys behind them. Apparently, they had beaten up these boys cause they were teasing and annoying the girls.

The father then has a revelation and he realizes that maybe he doesn’t need a son to fulfill his dreams. Now this takes place in the time that females are still in some parts of India, recquired to be married off at a young age. The father decides instead of sending the girls off, he’ll make them stronger and fulfill his dreams.

This a definite must-watch cause it speaks of the struggle of females and it explains the struggle of growing up. The daughter especially, is a very realistic character and you’ll find yourself relating with her on different levels.

2) 3 Idiots

3 idiots may sound like a very hilarious title, cause it is. The movie itself is also very hilarious at times. You may find that in some parts of the movie you may want to cry.

3 idiots explains of the increasing suicide rate in India, but I’ll explain the idea of it later.

This movie starts out with the two boys on the left and right, going on a journey to find their best friend (the one in the middle) who disappeared after helping the two of them, and during their journey they explain the story of them in college

Basically, these 3 boys go to an engineering school, but not just any ordinary engineering school, the best one. The director of this engineering school, is very competitive. He believes in the idea of life is a race and you must be first and smarter in order to get ahead.

This idea is something that runs in a lot of people head. About being first and being smart.

If you look at the picture above. The boy on the farthest left hand sight, he is someone who came to the school because all his life his family has wanted him to just be an engineering, and pressured him to be there, when his dream was to be a wildlife photographer. The man on the farthest right hand side. He’s smart but doesn’t get the best marks, he’s always praying to god or has some kind of god picture above so he can get good luck and get good marks. The reason he does it is because his family’s very poor, so they all expect him to get a job as an engineer which we all know you can earn a lot. Now, the boy in the middle, he’s really smart, like he could grade 10 Math in grade 5 smart. But he believes that, there’s an oppression with schools and the idea of life being a race and constantly goes against the headmaster.

I can’t say much than this but this is a definite must watch because it explains about how students shouldn’t be focused on marks, but being creative and using their knowledge in application and not on exams. This movie does have talk and visual of suicide, so there is a trigger warning. But I’d definitely recommend this movie.

3) Taare Zameen Par

God, this movie is one of my absolute favourites.

This movie starts off about this kid, he’s naughty, spoiled and really likes to paint. But he’s a kids who laughs a lot, jokes a lot, his problem? He can’t read or write even at the age of eight.

He’s constantly kicked out of classes, constantly getting yelled at, constantly getting called idiot and different things. After almost failing third grade for the second time and bunking school for a day. His father decides enough is enough and sends him off to a very strict boarding school.

The kid is devasted. No matter how hard he tries, for some reason he can’t read or write and during his time at the boarding school, he struggles so hard to the point he stops laughing, stops doing anything and becomes a depressed shell of a kid.

He cries everyday, his teachers constantly slap him on the hands with rulers and he has struggle tying his shoelace and his own tie.

But one day, a temporary teacher comes in as the art teacher.

And he notices the kids struggle. And from there the story goes on.

You’ll really fall in love with this movie. Why? Because the kid is a very sweet and caring kid, you’ll fall in love with the teacher, you’ll really fall in love with how the movie talks about special kids. It is a known fact in India that kids with special needs deserve and have the right to study in normal schools, but a lot of schools ignore that and make a separate school for the ‘special‘ need kids. And this movie goes in to that at some point.

4) My Name is Khan

My Name is Khan, starts out as a really cute movie. Basically there’s this really cute Muslim boy and his name is Rizvan Khan.

He goes to the US in order to help his brother out with his Buisness and he’s autistic. So, one day he goes to a salon to sell them some stuff, when he meets the owner of the salon. And she’s a beautiful woman and he instantly falls in love with her.

This woman who owns the salon, has a son but her husband left her, she ends up raising him as a single mom, although she’s Hindu. The two of them get married and live happily with themselves and their neighbours, who they become really close friends with.

Then 9/11 happens. And suddenly because Rizvan’s last name is Khan, their neighbours turn their back on the entire family. The younger boy starts to get bullied and things start to happen.

This movie goes in to the racism and oppression of Muslim people and that’s why the movies called “My Name is Khan”, because his name is Khan, he and his whole family get oppressed and outed.

Now I haven’t said much, but I’m tired and don’t wanna type anymore 😂. So, I’ll leave you guys off with just a list of really good Indian movies. Some of them may not be ‘inspirational’ but they’re a personal favourite of mine.

★ Bollywood comedy set for Lantern Festival release in China !

Nearly three years after its original release in India, the critically acclaimed "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" will hit Chinese theaters on March 2.

Director Kabir Khan and the film's young star Harshaali Malhotra, both wearing traditional Chinese clothing, attended the Chinese premiere held in Beijing yesterday. Malhotra, now 9, smiled throughout the event but spoke very little, just like the character she played in the film.

"We auditioned maybe 2,000 girls, and finally chose Harshaali because she not only has a pretty face but also had enthusiasm to do the film," the director said at the premiere, "and she is totally a natural-born actress."

He also revealed that although co-star Salman Khan was known as the biggest action star in India, the director felt they should do something different after their collaboration on the spy thriller action film "Ek Tha Tiger" (2012). Salman Khan agreed and happily took part in the "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" project, a movie that is instead, according to its director, "about love."

The film tells the story of how Bajrangi (Salman Khan), an ardent devotee of Hindu deity Hanuman, embarks on taking a mute six-year-old Pakistani girl (Harshaali Malhotra), separated in India from her parents, back to her hometown in Pakistan.

The director Khan said that he made this film to talk about "love within people and the fact that borders cannot divide people."

"Bajrangi Bhaijaan," which means "Brother Bajrangi," will be released in China under the title "Little Lolita's Monkey God Uncle." "Monkey God Uncle" refers to the character Bajrangi, who is named after Bajrangbali (Hanuman), the Hindi God who provided the inspiration for the Monkey King character in the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West." "Little Lolita" in Chinese slang often has no sexual connotations, instead only meaning "cute little girl," in reference to the young character played by Malhotra. The Chinese version will also be cut down in length from 159 minutes to 140 minutes.

The worldwide gross of "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" has already been 629 crore (US$98 million) as of 2016, making it the second-highest-grossing Indian film ever at the time, behind Rajkumar Hirani's satirical sci-fi comedy film "PK." Now with its upcoming release in China, it may earn a much higher box office haul.

The Chinese film market has provided an unmistakable boost to Indian films' earnings and chart positions. Last year, the booming market shot "Dangal" to the number one spot as the highest-grossing Indian film ever. "Dangal" grossed over US$330 million worldwide, including more than US$204 million in the Chinese market.

Another Indian film, "Secret Superstar," also made 746 million yuan (US$118.28 million) since its release in China earlier this year, which helped the film become the third-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. India's domestic income for "Secret Superstar" pales in comparing to what it has done in China - by the end of 2017, the film only grossed 89 crore (US$14 million) in India.

Director Kabir Khan is not too surprised by the phenomenon. "India and China have so much in common, " he said, "they are giant Oriental civilizations that has been living next to each other for thousands of years." He said he believes the peoples of the two countries have the same way of looking at emotions, family structures and relationships. "We could find more relevance in China than in other parts of the world, and I'm sure Chinese films will find relevance in India."

The director's next film will be the travel drama "Zookeeper," an Indo-Chinese film production slated for release later this year which will be shot in China's Chengdu city and the surrounding area.

Building on the success of "Dangal" and "Secret Superstar," as well as positive word-of-mouth since 2015, "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" will be getting a wide release in China on March 2. The date coincides with the Lantern Festival that ends China's traditional Spring Festival and Lunar New Year holidays, a time of year when people celebrate family reunions, mirroring the theme of the movie. The film had advance screenings in 29 Chinese cities on Feb. 6, receiving positive feedback from audiences.

After Aamir Khan's extremely successful films Dangal and Secret Superstar, China is set to embrace yet another hit Indian movie Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Starring Bollywood star Salman Khan and the then 7-year-old Harshaali Malhotra in the lead roles, the 2015 film follows Bajrangi (Khan), an ardent follower of the Hindu deity Hanuman, as he brings a mute Pakistani girl (Malhotra) back to her family. The film is set to hit Chinese mainland cinemas on Friday, the same day as the traditional Lantern Festival. The choice of release date seems well thought out as the Lantern Festival celebrates families coming together and the story fits perfectly with this festive atmosphere. The now 9-year-old actress Malhotra and the film's director Kabir Khan appeared at the film's Beijing premiere on Monday, dressed in traditional Chinese cheongsams. The two greeted fans by saying "Happy Lantern Festival" in awkward Chinese and posed for photos holding a giant Chinese festive decoration. High anticipation "I think India and China have so much in common. We have civilizations that have lasted for five to six thousand years and we have so much in common in the way we express our emotions, our family structures and relations," Kabir Khan said at a press conference at the Monday event when asked why he felt Indian films have been gaining ground in China in recent years. While the recent success of Dangal and Secret Superstar in China might serve as one of the prime motivators for Chinese investors to put more stake into Indian films, the film's impressive performance in the Indian market and its relatively high rating of an 8.1/10 on IMDB and an 8.6/10 on Chinese review platform Douban have also caused movie lovers to pay more attention to Bollywood. The latest popular Indian film to come to the Chinese mainland, Bajrangi Bhaijaan is receiving quite a lot of attention from Chinese press and movie fans. On Douban, the film is now the third "most-want-to-see" film among the nine imported films that are hitting theaters in the mainland in March, following Golden Globe-winner Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which is scheduled to debut on the same date and Shape of Water, a strong Oscar contender that is set to premiere on March 16. While admitting the parts of the film concerning religious beliefs and border disputes between India and Pakistan may be difficult to understand without certain background knowledge, reviews from Chinese moviegoers have been relatively positive so far. Previously I thought I might fall asleep as 141 minutes is a bit too long for me, but I was moved to tears, especially by the end of the film," Xiao Lan, a moviegoer who attended Monday afternoon's VIP screening in Beijing, told the Global Times. "I think this film expresses the theme of religion better than [Indian film] P.K.," posted movie blogger Capital's Haha Brother on Sina Weibo on February 7, a day after a Beijing prescreening. Boasting some 30,000 followers on Sina Weibo and over 3,000 registered members on Baidu Tieba, China's equivalent to Reddit, the Salman Khan China Fan Club has taken on the mission of translating and updating the star's news on Chinese social media platforms. Veteran fans often call him by his Chinese nickname Xiao Sa or simply Sa," said the 25-year-old fan club manager, who fell in love with the star in 2014 after watching his film Wanted. Jawaani Jaaneman box office day 2: Saif Ali Khan, Alaya F film shows sharp increase, earns Rs 7.79 cr - bollywood

Jawaani Jaaneman saw a steep rise in collections on Saturday, making a total of Rs 7.79 crore. After making a slow opening of Rs 3.24 crore on Friday, the film collected Rs 4.55 crore on Saturday. 'Wonder Woman' rules box office, 'Captain Underpants' in second spot

Hollywood didn't have faith that "Wonder Woman" could work on her own as a film, and it took decades to take the DC female superhero out of development hell and onto the big screen. Critics and audiences agreed that this outing helped put DC Comics Universe back on the radar. Now that she conquered the box office, expect more women power until the studios kill that off with too much product. "Wonder Woman" conquered milestones and movie myths at North American theaters, where the Patty Jenkins-directed superhero film powered its way to a $100.5 million debut this weekend and became the biggest blockbuster ever directed by a woman. The well-reviewed movie easily surpassed industry expectations with one of the summer's biggest debuts, according to studio estimates Sunday. Starring Gal Gadot as the Amazonian warrior princess, "Wonder Woman" is the rare - and most successful - female-led film in an overwhelmingly male superhero landscape. It proved a hit with moviegoers, earning a CinemaScore of A. While skewing somewhat female, it drew a fairly evenly split audience. Warner Bros. said 52 percent of the audience was female and 48 percent male. "Wonder Woman" added $122.5 million internationally, including $38 million in China. "It shows that superhero movies aren't just about men. They're about women as well," said Jeff Goldstein, distribution chief for Warner Bros. "All the noise about Patty Jenkins breaking the glass ceiling for directors, I think that added to it as well." Women have long struggled to get behind the camera of Hollywood's biggest productions. Female directors accounted for just 9 percent of the 250 top-grossing movies in North America in 2015 and only 7 percent in 2016. Jenkins, who previously directed 2003's "Monster" starring Charlize Theron, now holds the record for biggest domestic opening for a female director. The previous mark was Sam Taylor-Johnson's "Fifty Shades of Grey," with $85.1 million in 2015. Some still had issues with "Wonder Woman." Online critics complained of gender inequality after the Alamo Drafthouse scheduled a handful of female-only screenings across the country. Lebanon banned the film because Gadot is Israeli. Nevertheless, "Wonder Woman" represents a turning point for Warner Bros. and DC Comics, which have together struggled in recent years to match the Marvel-Disney juggernaut. While "Wonder Woman" didn't match the box-office might of "Batman v. Superman" (a $166 million opening) or "Suicide Squad" ($133.7 million), it was much better received than those roundly derided releases. The dangal is over. Victory has been achieved achieved. Dangal has beaten Aamir Khan's own PK and Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.

The dangal is over. Victory has been achieved achieved. Dangal has beaten Aamir Khan's own PK and Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.

    Do you know Mr. Murlikant Petkar or Have you ever heard about him ????? ( If not Don’t worry you’ll know each & every detail about him in Few Months, A Biopic is planned on His life & Sushant Singh Rajput is playing lead)

    Who is first person who won Individual Gold Medal in any Form of Olympics ???? Sadly many of us don’t know about, some may say Abhinav Bindra & in Paralympics Mr. Devendra Jhajharia who won recently last year.

    Many of us don’t know about Mr. Murlikant Petkar, I was also not aware till I saw one old Interview of Rahul Dravid where he mentioned his Name & shared some glimpse about his life. I am surprise why Movie is not been made on his Life, If you read his life story it will have all elements.

He has shared his life journey with Mr. Sanjay Mishra & is available in book Courage beyond Compare.

Here I am sharing few glimpse of His Life Journey.

He is born in 1947 in Islampur Village in Maharashtra’s Sangali District.

    From childhood he was interested in Sports from Hockey, football, to rural sports like gilli- danda, kabaddi, kho kho etc. Satara belt is famous for Wrestling & joined local akhada which was run by Ganpat Rao Khedkar. He was enjoying in Training & wanted to become professional Wrestler at that time his age was only 12 Years old. But Life took an amazing Turn (according to him it was amazing)

    Murli took part in Exhibition Bout in Local Dangal ( Now we all know what Dangal is) & competed against Shivaji Patil ( Son of Headman of Village where Dangal was taking place) but it became competitive & he defeated Shivaji convincingly.

    Someone in the crowd shouted Khedkar deliberately trained Murli to defeat Shivaji so that Headman of Village looks small in front of whole Village & even turned ugly & crowd started braying for blood of Murli. Khedkar assessing the situation ran away towards Highway. Murli took lift in Truck & landed in Pune where he hardly knows any one.

    Next day morning he went to one of his relative & stays at his place for a week, after a week his uncle took him to local Army recruitment Centre, on same day he was made to be part of the Boys Battalion of Army & at 4 pm he was put to train to Bangalore. Year was 1960, He was just 12 Years old not even Teenager.

    Within a year or so he became really good at Hockey & scored many goals for his battalion. He was dropped twice from Karnataka team because He was Maratha boy & they wanted local boy from Karnataka. Upset with this treatment he vowed never to play hockey again & started taking interest in martial arts, boxing & hand to hand combat training. His favourite sport was boxing because there either your teeth got broke or you broke opponent’s teeth, No Bhaigiri as in Hockey. He was so good at it that very soon he won all major Tournaments & was selected to represent to Indian Army at the International Service Sports meet to be held in Tokyo. He went to the Final of event where he faced boy from Uganda who hit him so hard in second round that He was knocked out for two days but he learnt a lot from that Trip & continued to play in nationals & won Tournaments.

    The General Officer Commanding Southern Command was sportsman himself & was very happy with National Title Murli won for his Command. As a reward he was asked to go on Trip sponsored by the Army & he asked to go to Kashmir. This one decision was to change Murli’s life yet again totally & in the most dramatic fashion.

    Along with ten other boys Murli landed in Kashmir & transferred to the 108 Gurkha regiment. He visited few places. On his tenth day every one heard long wail of Siren which was actually war siren announcing unprovoked attack by Pakistan Air Force (PAF). Gurkha Regiment was so closed to Border & was a priority target for the PAF. Many soldiers died on the spot. Their Leader Halvinder Gurung Thapa immediately ordered to battalion along with Murli to take defensive position to the front of Sialkot.

    In a firing from top from Pakistani Force he was hit by nine bullets. One bounced of his skull fracturing it, one skid past his right cheekbone dampening his eye. One hit his spine & lodged there, while one went through the shoulder. Both thighs were hit and both calves as well. The impact of bullets was such that he was thrown from his position to the road below and there an army jeep passing by could not stop in time & went over my leg. He screamed in pain & lost consciousness thereafter.

    His condition was so bad that he had been shifted from one hospital to another and landed in Delhi after some seventeen months. He had lost his memory and did not remember his own name.

    One day he was lying at the edge of his bed & got knocked off the bed and hit his head hard on the floor. Unbelievably and in true Bollywood style, he suddenly regained his memory & remembered everything and he was informed that he was 95% paralyzed & no control on urination & bowl movement & wheelchair bound for Life. He was just nineteen years old at that time & undergone seven major surgeries & one bullet still lodged in his spine which Doctor refused to remove for the danger it would pose to the spinal cord. On his request he was shifted to Maharashtra & shifted to INS Ashwini – Navy’s premium Hospital in Mumbai. This was going to change in his life big way.

    At INS Ashwini he fell into a daily schedule which saw him swimming and playing other sports like shot put, archery, table tennis, javelin etc, Swimming was basically a therapy to strengthen his back & shoulders.

    Somewhere in middle of 1967 he finally meets his parents who came along with his Elder brother. They were aghast seeing his condition. His father & brother were shell shocked and didn’t talk with him at first. He told them that he was now thinking of leaving Army as it had no place for a handicapped Soldier & he would like to join school back home, educate himself & try to be earning member, His brother said no one can take care of you as he had no control on his bowl moment & he would be burden on family because he is Langda, His father kept quite & mother kept crying. He was so hurt with this outburst.

    He was so disturbed with the event he decided to commit suicide by swallowing lots of sleeping pills, On the day when he decided to end his life Hospital sweeper came running to him & ask for 10 rupees to play Matka (Gambling), Sweeper requested him to also play. He agreed & gives Rs. 100 instead of Rs. 10 to sweeper & another 100 from his side for gambling & asked to put money on One Number more than sweeper.

    He gulped Sleeping pills along with Alcohol but destiny took another turn he didn’t died of it & vomited next day morning till his stomach was empty. At around 9 AM sweeper came screaming with joy along with someone to his room & informed him that he ( Murlikant) had won Rs. 40,000/- in Gambling. He was stunned & didn’t know how to react & to his surprise first time after long time he felt sensation and need to urinate. He donated all money to National Association of Blind.

    After giving away all money he decided to start his new life & decided to do well in sports. With help of his coach Jawahar & Vijay Merchant Trust he started Swimming at Navy pool in Colaba, with nothing else to do whole day he started playing archery, shot put, javelin, table tennis, wheel chair racing etc.

    He started playing in competitive paraplegic events & won Gold Medal in archery, table tennis, Shot put, discus throw, javelin throw & weight lifting in State Championship. He won four Gold Medals in National Paraplegic Games between 1968 to 1973. Realising his potential Coach Jawahar thought he could be medal Winners at International Event. He started Training,

    He took part in 1969 Stoke Mendeville International Paraplegic Meet, He entered in fifty meter freestyle swimming & shot put, & won very first International Gold medal for India in Paraplegic Games & medal was given by Queen Elizabeth. Same year he went to Mexico & also won Gold Medal there in Swimming.

    He was qualified for 50 meter free style swimming; javelin & shot put throw in 1970 Commonwealth Games. Broke Commonwealth Game Record & won Gold Medal in Swimming, Silver in javelin throw & Bronze in Shot put. In 1971 Stoke Mendeville International Paraplegic Meet he once again won Gold in Swimming & Silver in Javelined throw.

    Than he started preparing for 1972 Paralympic Games which were to be held immediately after Munich Olympics. He reached to the Finals in Swimming & made India proud by Winning India’s first ever Individual Gold Medal & set new World Record. No one has come so far one Individual Gold Medal either abled or disabled Olympics.

    A few months later he decided to leave the Army & later joined TELCO but continued playing National & International Meets. From 1973 to 1984 he continued to dominate.

    Winner of Gold Medal at Asian, Commonwealth & Paralympic Games from India, you might be thinking he has won all rewards & recognitions but He was recommended for Arjuna Award for 1973, 1974 & 1975, But for unknown reason He was denied with Arjuna Award. He was even overlooked for Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. In 1974 he was allotted some Land by Government of Maharashtra which was later taken back by Government.

    So even after bringing so much Pride & Glory to country sadly we as a Country couldn’t give respect he undoubtedly deserved. We even don’t know who he is. But we all will definitely know him once Movie will be released.

He is definitely unsung Hero & his life story will definitely inspire us.
