thought that the people of tumblr might enjoy this!! watched/read all of dandadan this past weekend and so enjoyed it! i’ve been brain rotted by these two & their amazing dynamic. AGH!!

🫵 CHIQUITITA BUT EVEN BABIER! Several species of crab (and most shrimp) iirc are born fairly translucent, they are squishy little nuggets!! Chiquitita will start growing his carapace in a few months but right after hatching you can see his little organs floating around in there! Also peep Mr. Shrimp’s wife,, I don’t quite have the markers to get her colors right but here she is,,,

Okay, I finally watched the DanDaDan anime (manga reader here). My initial thoughts:

1) I’m weirdly annoyed that the anime changed “all out” to “full throttle”.

2) I’m not used to Aira’s cutesy, high-pitched voice. In my head, she sounded more like an airheaded popular girl, like Glinda from Wicked. Not gonna lie, I don’t really like it. I will say though that I liked the moment where we hear Aira’s “real voice”.

3) They nailed my dawg Jiji. But I guess there was only one way to do the character anyways (annoying himbo). EDIT: Okay, one complaint! The animators kinda chickened out in making him look derpy. He’s way more handsome in the anime, while in the manga, there’s straight up panels where it looks like something is wrong with him lol.

4) It goes without saying that they nailed Momo and Okarun.

5) I think my overall problem with the adaptation is that it’s missing some of the personality from the manga. Admittedly, this is probably me being biased since I read the manga and I’m not really into animation in general. But from my perspective, some of the humor and wit is lost in seeing the scenes actually be animated. It’s hard to describe, but when I’m watching the show, the scenes just don’t come off as funny or as impactful as the manga. It’s the same feeling I got from the Spy x Family anime, there was just something lost in the change in mediums. Sorry y’all, that’s just my perspective.

6) That being said, while I prefer the manga overall, the Acro Silky backstory was done better in the show.

7) The cliffhanger was basically the studio telling you to read the manga lol (which you should!)

Idk anything about Dandadan, but the art’s made me curious. What’s your fav dynamic (of two or more characters) from it and why? :o

(Spoilers are fully welcome! Which is why I’m asking, but just in case you were worried about that)

Jiji and Vamola by like a long shot, though the whole main cast has a very dynamic group energy that is very fun, but Jiji and Vamola man… Jiji is an only child who has a big ole’ heart but is the most annoying man you’ve ever met. He makes a “deez nuts” joke in the dub and it is entirely in character. He is the kind of person you can’t stand but if anyone was ever mean to him you would beat them to a pulp. Vamola is a Sumerian (an alien from the planet Sumer/Sumar which are implied to have either lived on earth previously or evolved from humans, unsure which direction they are going) who doesn’t know anything. She came from a planet ravaged by war and is just trying to survive. The two of them act like the biggest idiots together

I live for their dumb sibling energy, both of them are only children and I love the idea they latched onto each other to be dumb together. I am just kinda a huge sucker for found family concepts and these two read so heavily as “this is my sister I will teach her all my dirty jokes and kill anyone who looks at her funny”. It is different from the regular “besties” dynamic everyone else has!! Aira and Chiquitita have a similar vibe but you mostly see them interact off to the side in group shots,,, but she has definitely mentally adopted that child.
