Review: Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Don't Talk to Me Or My Son Ever Again

I have finally started on my journey with this new era of Planet of the Apes movies and I really enjoyed this first turn. I think a real strength of the plot is the writers keeping the root of Caesar's story very simple: that the mistreatment of him and his kind is what motivates them to leave. I'm very excited to watch the sequel because, while some of the primate characters in this film exhibited agressive behaviour, none of them wanted to go to war with the humans or take over the human world, so I'm fascinated to find out what the turning point is. With that in mind, Rise is an effective kicking-off point as it's a solid standalone sci-fi movie that leaves you wanting more.

Andy Serkis, as usual, is brilliant and I found Caesar to be a really engaging character and a compellingly written hero. After giving us a wonderful dynamic throughout the film Caesar and Will earned their emotional goodbye but it was a scene I felt could have had more heart had it stewed in the characters' emotions a moment longer as well as Will's shock at hearing Caesar speak for the first time. Hearing it for the first time as a viewer when he was in captivity was thrilling.

All in all, this is a well-written, well-made film on its own and as an installment in the franchise, with a compelling build-up in the development of Caesar's intelligence and the introduction of Caesar's character.

Other bits:

I don't know why but I find it really funny that James Franco was in this movie, what was the trajectory of James Franco's career in the early 2010s that made him a lead in the Planet of the Apes reboot?!

I thought the lack of dialogue in the animal control scenes was really well done, not once did I miss it or feel the lack of a human character

I really hated the inclusion of the "damn dirty ape" line and I don't blame Tom Felton's delivery, Lauren­­­ce Ol­­ivier couldn't have done any better with it

all of those apes and chimps and other primates were absolutely justified in what they did, I cannot wait to watch the rest of these movies to see how they develop as a species and community

I'm a really big fan of the original Planet of the Apes so it shouldn't have taken me this long to get into this series but I'm here now and I'm ready for the long haul

I'm ngl I'm so insanely against the HBO reboot of HP it's actually consuming my entire mind atm like what do you mean you're platforming a terf and rebooting movies that aren't even 25 years old and putting kids through that AGAIN did we not learn from Tom Felton or Dan and Emma distancing themselves and publicly going against JKR like? Could we not?

Y'all could've gotten the same amount of profit from a half decent tv series based in the HP world with her nowhere near it and instead you recreate what's been adapted already...bc jkr is sad some bits were left out?

Maybe I'm so immersed in the world of HP fanfic (don't ask me what I read I have trauma and I am a bisexual gifted child I am already ashamed dw) that I don't see a audience craving this but I rly think it's not what any fan (as much as anyone can truly be a fan at this point with how diabolically evil jkr has become and how inherently problematic the worldbuilding was) would actually ask for

Lil' Red & The Rooster Bring Sassy Swing and Bluesy Charm in New Single "Goodbye Frowns"

Lil' Red & The Rooster’s latest single “Goodbye Frowns” is a vibrant, jazz-blues anthem. With its playful energy and groove, this song is a spirited reminder to embrace joy even during life’s tougher moments. 

Jen "Lil’ Red" Milligan’s sassy, scatting vocals capture the song’s message, while Pascal Fouquet, known as the “Rooster,” brings his distinctive guitar work - an expert blend of blues traditions and modern flair.

Together they have created a distinctive sound that draws on their “retro modern blues” style.

“Ne me suis pas dans mon film.” This is a French phrase which translates as “Don’t follow me into my film,” and it is the guiding sentiment behind the song. 

Lil’ Red’s light drumming syncs with Pascal’s intricate guitar work on a vintage Stella acoustic, and we can hear the distinct influence of B.B. King and Django Reinhardt emerge into something of their own. 

Chicago bassist Felton Crews completes the trio, laying down smooth six-string bass lines and a rhythmic foundation that complements the lively interplay between vocals and guitar. 

This upbeat feel-good song offers a lively preview of Lil’ Red & The Rooster’s upcoming 2025 album which promises to explore further their unique sound of blues and jazz.

And at a time when love songs often only focus on heartbreak, “Goodbye Frowns” takes on a different approach - a bright, swinging reminder that true happiness is something cultivated within and shared best when both partners bring their own joy to the relationship. 

“Goodbye Frowns” was recorded at JoyRide Studio and mixed by Brian Leach and offers us a glimpse into the duo’s forthcoming 2025 album. 

About Lil’ Red & The Rooster

Jen “Lil' Red” Milligan and Pascal Fouquet, the dynamic duo behind Lil’ Red & The Rooster, have been creating music together since 2010. Both drawn to the blues early in their lives, their shared passion brought them together and formed a bond as deep as their love for the genre. 

Their sound is the product of years of fine-tuning and evolving. This is gonna be a kinda long rambly type post about TIT and Dan and Phil in general.

I can‘t sleep. Maybe it‘s my worsening sleep schedule these past few days (I blame Goro Majima), maybe it‘s the excitement of tomorrow. The fact that in less than 19 hours I‘ll be seeing Dan and Phil live. I‘ve never seen any content creator live and in person before, closest I got was getting a picture with Tom Felton a couple ears ago, 2018 I think. Sure I don‘t have any VIP or meet n greet tickets for tomorrow, but it‘s still going to be such a surreal evening.

I first started watching them during their gaming channel hiatus, maybe 2020 or 2021, I think my first video was their dog calendar which I found years after it was posted. I remember being so disappointed that I found them too late to get one myself. Now I‘m sitting here on my bed, my Dan and Phil and Cats calendar hanging above me.

So many times have I been too late to go to a show, a tour, a meet n greet. But now, finally, I‘m on time. I‘m so happy that I‘m going to the tour, and the first show nonetheless! I‘m hoping to maybe get one of the merch jackets they‘re selling, but I don‘t know if my mom will get it for me.

I‘m wondering how it‘ll go tomorrow, bringing my mom along. We‘re not native english speakers, and she struggles with it more than me, especially when the person speaking has a british accent, so that‘ll be interesting xD She also has no idea who Dan and Phil are, except the fact they‘re the guys on my calendar. She did once see me watching them in the livingroom, asked if they were the guys on my calendar, then said „They‘re together right?“ and I couldn‘t help but laugh. I told her no, they‘re not. They are both gay but not dating. I doubt she believed me.

They showed some fishnet tights in the new ‚trailer‘, which makes me think we‘ll be seeing Sister Daniel again. Makes me wonder how my mom will feel when she sees my reaction to Sister Daniel. I‘ve always loved her, I practically died when I saw the thumbnail of the Halloween baking video.

I don‘t know what I‘ll wear yet, but I do know I‘ll wear my two bracelets. They‘re those bracelets you‘re probably supposed to share with someone, being all one type of stone with one switched. I bought them at my favorite place in the world just about a month or so ago. It wasn‘t until like 15-20 minutes later, when I put them on, that I realized one was black/gray and one was orange. WAD colors. I didn‘t even get them for that reason, but I knew I was gonna wear them when I went to see them.

I practically begged my mom to get tickets. They were going live during my lunch period at school, and I remember texting my mom asking how it was going. She called me and bought them. I was so happy for the rest of the weekend. The fact that the first show was somewhere we could go, only about a 3 hour drive away, was almost magic to me. Like I was meant to go see that show. Like it was destiny. Crazy, I know.

A couple weeks ago, my mom got an advertisement e-mail by the venue. February 2025 they‘re hosting The Phantom of the Opera performances. They were expensive, but she got tickets anyway. I almost cried on the spot when she told me. POTO is one of my favorite musicals, and it is the musical I want to see the most. Sure, I love Beetlejuice and Heathers, but Phantom is Phantom! For most it‘s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I kinda trailed off at the end there, apologies. I‘d be shocked if anyone even read this far. If you did, thanks. If you didn‘t, that‘s okay too. I just wanted to rant for a little :)

hi sorry i haven’t been active on here but i’m just mad right now and i have to rant so there’s people out there that hate tom felton whatever it has to with the fact that he’s still into harry potter or people still believe he’s transphobic when he’s not either way i saw this on twitter of someone posting a recent photo of tom that tom posted of him and daniel radcliffe hall of fame star on his instagram so this person had to go to tom instagram account screenshot his post and come on twitter to post this saying liam payne level of embarrassing why? all tom did was posted a picture of him and daniel hall of fame star and his haters had to call him embarrassing or had to bring up that fact that he’s still into harry potter telling him to get a job move on just giving him shit tom is still friends with daniel he still friends with all his hp costars this ain’t the first time tom has been criticize about him mentioning his friendship with harry potter cast not long ago tom mention about his friendship with emma watson and people didn’t like it telling him to leave her alone and once again mentioning his harry potter obsession so if tom haven’t posted of him and daniel hall of fame star just him and daniel i bet his haters will still be weird and tell tom to leave him alone and bring up his harry potter obsession another thing in the comments of that tweet was his haters saying i would be embarrassed if i was dan if i saw that photo as you all know daniel don’t have social media but i’m sure tom sent dan that photo of text because tom has mentioned that he is in a group chat with his harry potter costars emma rupert dan like why would dan be embarrassed of tom posting his hall of fame star all his haters is assuming shit act like tom harry potter costars secretly hate him when they don’t tom is not the embarrassing ones his haters are again i had to rant so sorry about this i’m just sick and tired of all the unnecessary hate tom receives like if you don’t like him leave him alone keep your mouths shut about him please so if any of you see this post and hate tom felton you aren’t allowed to comment on this post just ignore and move on with your day or night
