*several hours later*

Tav: so heavy armour’s off the table?

Kar’niss: *whole body including his abdomen and legs covered in plate armour, trying to lift himself up off the ground only to drop and splay out in defeat* hhnnnnrrrr…

Dammon: heavy armour is definitely off the table yes.

The battle for Moonrise was looming ever closer, you were to depart on the morrow with your group, freshly armoured and geared for the battle to come, anxious of how the cultists would retaliate. Most of the night was spent as a last minute party, a send off in most peoples minds.

The Tieflings had escaped the grove, not even all of them had escaped the cultists on their way to Baldur’s Gate, to them it felt like their last stand, all of them ready to fight for their own freedom and for the freedom of their kin that had been kidnapped.

You were aware of the Tieflings that had been kidnapped, mostly unable to drown out Rolan’s drunken mutterings, about how he couldn’t save them and how self righteous you were for telling them to stay and help. You rolled your eyes for now and chalked his behaviour up to drunken rambling, he would see sense come the morrow when you brought his siblings back to him.

The air was odd within the tavern tonight, some were oddly jubilant, relishing the night as if it would be their last, some were overly morose, dreading the day that was to come at Moonrise. Your own night was full of excitement, people pulling you left and right to talk to you, wanting desperately to know your battle strategy for tomorrow, wanting to hear a speech that would embolden the fighters for the battle ahead. You had nothing for now, yet you promised to return with words of encouragement, you had other matters to attend to first.

It was a lie, you knew not what you would say to the people waiting for you, hoping that in this brief moment you would think of something uplifting, even trying to think of your old clan leader and what words he would give as encouragement. As you walked you shook your head, you could never be the leader they wanted you to be in their mind, all thoughts drifted away as you approached the sparkling embers of the forge, watching the embers dance together emptied your mind and soothe you somewhat.

“It should be me staring forlorn into the forge “ A soft voice behind you laughed, causing you to whip round quickly to face him. The man stood before you, light orange skin and a smiths build, you smiled as you remembered him. “Ah Dammon, just the man I was looking for.” Your voice was cheeky and light hearted, the usual tone in which you spoke to him.

“I’m flattered Y/N” Dammon gave a soft bow as he spoke, ever the gentleman that he was. “What can I do for you?” Dammon knew what you wanted, even through your honeyed words and pretending, you wanted weapons, weapons he was happy to give to you and your cause, he just wanted you to ask or beg first.

“Please Dammon” Your voice was desperate, pleading to his kind nature. “You have helped Karlach  so now help me!” Your voice became quiet suddenly, you were desperate and did not want the others to see you this way. “I’ve given Karlach her first real feeling of affection in years, I hugged her, a real hug.” Tears began to well up in your eyes at the memory, thinking about how Karlach nearly cried at another person’s touch for the first time in who knows how long. You wiped the budding tears away and stood tall, you were here for business, for war. “I need metal Dammon, enough to equip my party at least. Please.”

Your plea was desperate, Dammon could see it in your eyes now, you were not the only person here who needed weapons, the Harpers had been begging ever since he arrived. A long sigh escaped Dammons lips, his shoulders slumping in defeat before you. “I’ll make the metal you need, but you need to come back to me to pay for it.” There was a twinkle in Dammon’s eye as he winked at you, he would have always crafted for you but for some reason in his heart he wanted you to come back to him, wanting to know that you and your party were safe. The compassion you had shown for Karlach, how you had gone out of your way to help stabilise her infernal engine had now endeared him to you.

The night of the battle was here, yourself and your party were now equipped with fresh quality metal, courtesy of Dammon. Before you left you shared one last look with him, a knowing smile and a nod at the quality of the weapons he had supplied you with, it made you feel more confident about the battle ahead. Dammon watched you walk away, his metal work in hand, though it may have been his finest work to date, all he could think about was the people wielding it, everyday heroes who had had greatness thrust upon them, brave enough to not deny the call of honour.

The night waned on and Dammon could see light in the distance, from the Inn he hoped and prayed that the light was in favour of you, hoping that his weapons had kept you safe for now, he wanted you to come back to him alive.

Karlach: he pulled some strings when we kicked Gortash up the ass! But you know what this means?!

Dammon: I. I guess it means, you won’t need my help anymore?…

Karlach: What? No, it means I get to stay here, free, with you~

Dammon: …Oh. Well in that case. *grabs her by her horn pulling her down into a kiss*

Karlach: *grins into the kiss before pulling back* Whew- Steady on, you’re making me burn up~
