"Oh yeah? X-Files, huh?"
Dallas had never heard of this branch of the FBI. If they focused on unusual cases, he felt as though he should have stumbled across them by now. Then again, though, it wasn't like he had been out on too many missions when it came to his side job of fighting the unspeakable darkness in the world. Despite his many years of experience, most of that had been spent doing his actual USSS job - which, at the time, had been protecting the President. Regularly going out and being active was more of a recent thing.
Not that it meant his experience was worth any less, mind you! L-Cell had still come face to face with a few horrible monsters, and Lynchpin had been sure to pass on as much wisdom as he could too. Dallas knew what he was doing. He reckoned he probably knew better than this apparently FBI unit too - whatever it was they were supposed to be investigating.
"Well, this sure is an unusual case, don't you think? I was fixin' to give up on it before you turned up."
That was a lie - Dallas wasn't one for ever giving up, no matter the danger - but a little flattery never hurt, did it now?
"You ever seen anythin' like this before, then? I sure ain't!"
𝐃𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐒 & 𝐒𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐋𝐘 @imjustanauthor
"Oh." Well, that made a lot of sense. It explained why he seemed so... awkward. Poking a dead body wasn't usually a normal medical procedure. "You're just the right person for the job, then. Not that we know for sure if whatever this is is... contagious." She grimaced. "But if it is, I trust you'll know what to do."
Scully certainly didn't want to turn into jello!
"No, it isn't," she conceded. "I work for a... special branch of the FBI, called the X-files. My partner and I focus on unusual cases, like this one." Gelatinous bodies, aliens, cryptids... Scully wasn't as easily convinced as Mulder, though she had to admit that some things had baffled her in the past. And this, right here? Was baffling her too.

Dallas nodded. He'd shown him on the Apple one - he was certain of that because he recalled admiring how sleek the device looked. It wasn't an action that he had thought much about. In his line of work (his official work), his identity wasn't a secret, nor was his home town. Of course, he never gave any exact details - the name of his partner, his mother's new address, and the like. A man had to maintain some level of mystery and, quite frankly, his personal life just wasn't anyone else's business.
Despite common belief, Dallas wasn't an idiot. He caught on pretty quickly to what the other man was saying, and he frowned in response to it.
"You're concerned that someone may have the bloodhounds out for me?"
That wasn't good, but Dallas could hold his own. If somebody came after him, then they were in for a nasty shock when they discovered that he could ride the rough string in a ruckus.
"Well, I ain't told Mr Van Der Venken my Mama's location, but there may be a paper trail there. If you ain't blowin' smoke about this here problem, either you're going to have to get fixin' to have a man head out and keep an eye on her, or I'm gonna have to hit the trail and do it myself."
His partner, Jesse, on the other hand, should be fine - or, at least, he would be for the moment. Dallas hadn't told anybody at work about him, and there wasn't going to be anything obvious leading somebody to him. Plus, he was hardly defenceless. Jesse may not have any training, but he did have a gun and he sure knew how to use it.
Theo resigned himself to the fate of having to work out the bizarre phrases and was reminded why it was he loved the city so much, people could lie but at least they lied in plain English. He could gather what Dallas was saying but it did take him a moment longer to catch up. He did wonder if it was some sort of stunt or trick to throw him off and whether or not it might have been working on him!
Still writing down what was being said, Theo nodded along as some encouragement while Dallas explained. Glancing up at him for the mention of a diplomatic pouch and how that might have been the cause of whatever had happened. He took a moment to finish writing what Dallas had said and used it to think on his own response. Dallas could very well be another target and if he wasn't already in danger maybe he could then be used as bait.
"You showed Mr Van Der Venken photos of the area on his apple mac?" He checked for clarification, looking at his notes to confirm that was what Dallas had already said. Which meant if they were looking for Dallas they now had a decent starting point to search. "Agent Colt, I am concerned that whoever is responsible might be looking to eliminate anyone who they deem as a threat, be it to them personally or in relation to Mr Van Der Venken's work."
Theo took in a breath and rubbed absently at his head for just a moment, pen in the air and the other hand pulling his coffee closer. "I don't know who may have taken the diplomat or the detail with him, but I suspect if you are right and it is in relation to what was dropped off, then we may find out soon enough." If he was mistaken though and it had nothing to do with Dallas at all, he was wasting time.

@multipleoccupancy (Dallas & Ethan)
It was getting pretty late. Most reasonable people would be considering going to bed within the next hour or so, but Dallas had only just got off work. He'd been running the security for a visiting dignitary in New York for the last few days, but, now that was done, he had a few options. Dallas could either go back to his hotel room, catch a flight home, or...
Well, while he was in the area, he may as well visit his favourite fellow agent, right? Especially when he knew exactly where he lived, which was really an oversight on Ethan's behalf, but Dallas was hardly going to complain about that. It was nice to have that sense of friendly comradeship again. He wasn't going to admit it, but he'd been rather missing that since his falling out with Lockdown, and certainly since Lynchpin's death.
Dallas didn't call ahead. Instead, he simply turned up on Ethan's doorstep, a bottle of bourbon in one hand, and a few takeout pizzas balanced in the other.
"Howdy, kid!" He greeted, throwing out a sparkling smile the second the door opened. "Can I come on in? I bought some supper for us. You do eat pizza, right?"

@uselessdevice (@ Rufus, from Dallas)
Contary to popular belief, Dallas was not, in fact, an idiot. Sure, he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed either, but he had experience and good instincts and, so far, that had been enough to let him muddle through. For him, spotting the threat was the easy part. Working out what to do next, on the other hand, was where he appreciated some outside input.
Brains weren't exactly something that were common where he came from. There were plently of folk who were smart in their own way, but they weren't what he needed. What Dallas needed was someone who could solve puzzles and connect dots, which was exactly why he'd called the smartest Texan he know - that being Rufus (or Longhorn, if they were going to be formal).
"Now, this ain't something that I saw, but an old friend swears blind that he saw three men in black go into that there barn last night." He motioned in the direction he was talking about, then handed the other man the bincolulars he'd been looking through a moment before. "Here's the thing, though: they never came back out. My friend went to check inside; no sight of them. These guys may be slicker than a boiled onion, but that surely ain't possible, right?"
If it was possible, Dallas certainly couldn't work out how. Rufus could, though. He was bright as a new penny!
"I've already staked out the place. It's still empty, so we can go have a look if you want - unless you have any other ideas already?"

"To build something like that would require tools and metal alloys that aren't exactly available at Home Depot!" Violet @ Dallas, @hvbris
Supernatural & Paranormal Sentences, Vol. 11
"Yeah, I'm well aware of that. I'm not the kind of fella to suck a hind teat, you know?"
The frustration was evident in Dallas' voice. This was probably to be expected. While he was actually a pretty damn good team worker, it took him time to warm up to new agents - and perhaps even longer for new agents to warm up to him. A little friction was normal. To be quite honest, he reckoned that even more friction was normal! A lot of these agents didn't know how good they had it. They hadn't met any of the real difficult personalities yet.
"Just 'cus I ain't got no high school diploma don't mean I don't know how to no DIY." Dallas was actually pretty handy! He used to fix all sorts of things back in his rancher days - fences, barns, cars, and so on. Sure, maybe he didn't know about fancy metal alloys, but he wasn't an idiot!
"Where'd you need to go, then? And don't say Area 51, 'cus I've seen the security there and I ain't about to risk testing it."

"I believe a lot of things that don't make sense to people." Mina @ Dallas @hvbris
Supernatural & Paranormal Sentences, Vol. 11
Well yeah, that much was obvious. Dallas may portray himself as an idiot, but he wasn't, and he knew it was a good idea to check out the people he was working with whenever he learnt details about them. Considering that, he'd made sure to check out his fellow agent's YouTube channel when he'd had the chance, and he could sure as hell tell that she believed in some real strange stuff.
He also couldn't help but wonder if she realised how easy it was to find information about the personal lives of popular YouTubers. The internet was a big place; if she wasn't careful, somebody nefarious was going to realise that her details were only a Google search away.
"And I've seen things that don't make sense to people, but that don't mean that everything weird is real."
That was something he'd had to learn himself once upon a time. After seeing the ghost horses, Lynchpin had been quick to sit him down and explain that knowing that one thing existed didn't mean that he should make a fool of himself and start believing in every tale he heard.
"Ghosts are real, and aliens are real, but Mothman? Now, I'm pretty darn sure he's all make-believe."

@hvbris (@ Samantha, from Dallas)
After his argument with Lockown, Dallas had left Washington D.C. in a bad mood, and a month off in Texas had failed to cheer him up. Considering that he'd spent half of it looking at care homes for his rapidly deteriorating mother, this probably wasn't a surprise. The other half of his time had been spent trying to distract himself - which, when it came to him, meant attempting more and more dangerous rodeo stunts in the hope that either the adrenaline or the pain would cancel everything else out.
Countless bruises, a broken arm, and yet another 'breakup' with his boyfriend later, and he was back in the capital in just as bad a mood as he'd left. In fact, he was in an even worse mood because he'd come home to an HR letter by his front door - not one from the USSS, but one from his side job.
Since when was there even an HR department with that side of things? There certainly hadn't been one back when he'd first started. Maybe Lockdown had been right; maybe something had been going on behind the scenes...
As tempting as it had been to just ignore the letter, Dallas had ultimately decided to drag himself down to the office to see what all the fuss was about. Really, he supposed that part of him was just hoping for a fight, and having it out with a previously unknown HR representative seemed like a far better idea than dragging his problems into his real work.
He looked a right sight as he entered the office - all black and blue, the bruises covering his face matching the colour of his navy suit impeccably. Ever present hat still on firmly on his head, Dallas wandered over to the first person he saw, flashing a smile that would usually be charming, but this time didn't quite meet his eyes.
"Howdy, am I riding the wrong trail or is this HR? I'm supposed to have some kind of appointment booked."

"It's too late to turn back now." Fish @ Dallas for her Jurassic world verse? @imprvdente
General Sentences, Vol. 17
And why would Dallas want to turn back? He had the chance to rustle a dinosaur! Sure, it was ridiculously dangerous, and sure, it wasn't what he had been sent to the park for, but could anyone blame him for taking advantage of the situation?
He was supposed to be undercover. It was a covert espionage mission. Pretend to be a scientist, find out if anything more nefarious than a t-rex was being created in the labs, then hightail it out of there. Nice and simple. The only problem was that the whole park had lost its vertical hold!
"If you want to stay in the shadow of your mama's apron, that's fine. It's wilder than a peach orchard boar out there, but I ain't no chicken."
Was he underestimating the danger? Probably - both Lockdown and Lynchpin always said he did that - but hey, what was life without a little excitement?
"I've got me a rope and a Peacemaker; it's them dinosaurs out there that are going to want to think about turning tail."

“Is there a mystery here? Yes. Will there always be unanswered questions? Most likely. Sometimes that happens, and when it does, you just need to learn how to live with it and move on.” - Edgar for Dallas
The Outsider Sentences
Dallas was never going to admit it, but he had been thrilled to find out that one of his new colleagues was somebody he recognised. Even if he didn't work with the other man, he'd seen him about, and so it hadn't been too hard to 'accidentally' bump into him near the British embassy. From there, he'd make a habit of doing it again and again, until it got to the point where they just made plans to meet up.
He still hadn't found out what the other man's name was. Dallas knew he could, but he'd been taught to respect an agent's anonymity. He, Lynchpin, and Lockdown had all elected to ignore the fact that they knew what each other was called, and Dallas had planned on continuing that tradition with his new team members - even if some of them didn't actually have codenames yet.
Now, one of the big unanswered questions in Dallas' life was the fate of his former mentor, Lynchpin. He had read the description of the body when it had eventually been found, and he knew the location, but he longed to discover what exactly had happened. Because of that, he kept a close eye on other similar stories occurring in the area, hoping that he would one day find something that would lead him to... Well, revenge, he supposed.
A few days ago, a tourist had gone missing in Alaska. Her leg had been found the next day, with gnaw marks on it that didn't seem to belong to any kind of commonly known predator. It was a report on that situation that Dallas had brought along with him to lunch with his new colleague. He had hoped that he may be able to convince him to be interested in the matter too. Maybe they could team up to solve it? And a cell needed three people, right? So maybe he could also bring his friend-cum-fellow-agent Ethan along too!
However, his plan didn't seem to be working out, because the other man didn't actually want to solve the mystery.
"I ain't gonna accept that, I'm afraid. I'm fixin' to investigate this here matter. I know they say don't go borrowing trouble, but I don't think that we'd be whistling up the wind if we were to look into this. You ain't afraid, are you?"

“You don’t need to fake anything. You’re better than that.” - Ethan for Dallas
True Detective Sentences, Vol. 1
"You calling me a liar, Ethan?"
Dallas was usually so chipper, but that had all vanished in an instant. Clearly, the other man had unwittingly hit a sore spot. Unfortunately for him, Dallas was not the kind of guy who took personal advice well - especially when it could be interpreted as criticism!
It was a flaw that had only grown worse in recent years, too. With no figure in his life anymore to look to for guidance, Dallas had become increasingly hostile towards the suggestion that he was anything other than what he presented himself as. Perhaps that was because, on some level, he was aware that he was putting on an act. Yes, he was a legitimate cowboy - or, at least, he had been one at one point - but he did also play it up for the cameras, so to speak. Why he did that exactly... Well, Dallas didn't exactly want to explore that particular matter. He'd much rather respond with hostility and hope the topic was never brought up again.
"You can try and claim I've got more twists than a pretzel factory if you want, cowboy, but I ain't going to take that lying down. You want to rethink your accusation, or are we about to have a problem here?"

"I hope we shall become friends." lil Oceanne Holmes, happy to meet her bodyguard Dallas @imprvdente
First Meetings Sentences, Vol. 2
Dallas didn't exactly like being given the literal babysitting jobs, but he supposed he didn't mind them too much. They certainly broke up the typical tedium that could come with some of the individuals he found himself tasked with looking after, and it was impossible to deny that the kids loved him. Presumably, that was why he got saddled with them - because his whole cowboy demeanour had a habit of instantly catching their eye.
The British kid is a bit of a weird one. She was the daughter of some important fella - the kind of guy that other important people fell over themselves to get on the good side of, hence why they'd gone as far as getting a USSS agent to be his daughter's personal protection for the entirety of his trip. Anyway, both of them seemed pretty repressed and old-fashioned - but hey, that was the British for you, right?
"As long as I got a biscuit, you got half, little lady," Dallas replied, flashing the kid, Océanne, a wink and a quick smile. "You just holler if you want anything, alright? I ain't gonna wander far."

🔗 Dallas & Mina @hvbris maybe a cultist handcuffed them?
Send 🔗 for our muses to be handcuffed together!
"Well, ain't this just a fine how-do-you-do?" Dallas grumbled, loudly sighing with exasperation as he slumped against the door of the room they'd been locked in, the action tugging Mina as he did so. Unfortunately for her, he was a man of movement, and that wasn't exactly a good trait when one was handcuffed to a colleague.
"Goddarn cultists. There ain't nothin' worse than 'em, let me tell you. They have me kickin' dust like a bull after a charge, you know?"
But there was no point in complaining, was there? As cathartic as it could be to have a good moan from time to time, words weren't going to get them out of their current predicament. Dallas sighed again, frustratedly knocked the back of his head on the door, then suddenly lurched forwards again - once again dragging Mina with him.
"You ever got out of handcuffs before? I saw a fella do it once, back in the day when I did a little law enforcement work. Slipped ‘em right off by poppin’ somethin’ outta place, I reckon. His thumb, maybe? Maybe I can do that too. What d'you think?"
