@multipleoccupancy (Dallas & Ethan)
It was getting pretty late. Most reasonable people would be considering going to bed within the next hour or so, but Dallas had only just got off work. He'd been running the security for a visiting dignitary in New York for the last few days, but, now that was done, he had a few options. Dallas could either go back to his hotel room, catch a flight home, or...
Well, while he was in the area, he may as well visit his favourite fellow agent, right? Especially when he knew exactly where he lived, which was really an oversight on Ethan's behalf, but Dallas was hardly going to complain about that. It was nice to have that sense of friendly comradeship again. He wasn't going to admit it, but he'd been rather missing that since his falling out with Lockdown, and certainly since Lynchpin's death.
Dallas didn't call ahead. Instead, he simply turned up on Ethan's doorstep, a bottle of bourbon in one hand, and a few takeout pizzas balanced in the other.
"Howdy, kid!" He greeted, throwing out a sparkling smile the second the door opened. "Can I come on in? I bought some supper for us. You do eat pizza, right?"

Dallas nodded. He'd shown him on the Apple one - he was certain of that because he recalled admiring how sleek the device looked. It wasn't an action that he had thought much about. In his line of work (his official work), his identity wasn't a secret, nor was his home town. Of course, he never gave any exact details - the name of his partner, his mother's new address, and the like. A man had to maintain some level of mystery and, quite frankly, his personal life just wasn't anyone else's business.
Despite common belief, Dallas wasn't an idiot. He caught on pretty quickly to what the other man was saying, and he frowned in response to it.
"You're concerned that someone may have the bloodhounds out for me?"
That wasn't good, but Dallas could hold his own. If somebody came after him, then they were in for a nasty shock when they discovered that he could ride the rough string in a ruckus.
"Well, I ain't told Mr Van Der Venken my Mama's location, but there may be a paper trail there. If you ain't blowin' smoke about this here problem, either you're going to have to get fixin' to have a man head out and keep an eye on her, or I'm gonna have to hit the trail and do it myself."
His partner, Jesse, on the other hand, should be fine - or, at least, he would be for the moment. Dallas hadn't told anybody at work about him, and there wasn't going to be anything obvious leading somebody to him. Plus, he was hardly defenceless. Jesse may not have any training, but he did have a gun and he sure knew how to use it.
Theo resigned himself to the fate of having to work out the bizarre phrases and was reminded why it was he loved the city so much, people could lie but at least they lied in plain English. He could gather what Dallas was saying but it did take him a moment longer to catch up. He did wonder if it was some sort of stunt or trick to throw him off and whether or not it might have been working on him!
Still writing down what was being said, Theo nodded along as some encouragement while Dallas explained. Glancing up at him for the mention of a diplomatic pouch and how that might have been the cause of whatever had happened. He took a moment to finish writing what Dallas had said and used it to think on his own response. Dallas could very well be another target and if he wasn't already in danger maybe he could then be used as bait.
"You showed Mr Van Der Venken photos of the area on his apple mac?" He checked for clarification, looking at his notes to confirm that was what Dallas had already said. Which meant if they were looking for Dallas they now had a decent starting point to search. "Agent Colt, I am concerned that whoever is responsible might be looking to eliminate anyone who they deem as a threat, be it to them personally or in relation to Mr Van Der Venken's work."
Theo took in a breath and rubbed absently at his head for just a moment, pen in the air and the other hand pulling his coffee closer. "I don't know who may have taken the diplomat or the detail with him, but I suspect if you are right and it is in relation to what was dropped off, then we may find out soon enough." If he was mistaken though and it had nothing to do with Dallas at all, he was wasting time.

The body reminded Dallas of one of those dummies made out of ballistic gelatin, where you could see the damaged caused to the body when you shot it. He wondered if the bones had been jellified too, or if it that had only happened to the more fleshy parts and the bits that could rot.
Before he could ask the FBI agent to check, she asked him about his job. Ah. What had his cover story been in Cairo again? Dallas didn't have a bad memory, but that whole situation had been a while ago now.
"I specialise in rare and unusual diseases, but truth be told, I've been doing a lot more with the security arrangements around outbreaks recently. I was a deputy in my local Sheriff's Office in my youth, so I know the ropes better than my fellow doctors when it comes to all that. "
That sounded right, didn't he? Dallas definitely remembered giving some kind of excuse about being a security specialist before.
"And what d'you do with the FBI? Surely this ain't their usual kind of rodeo?"

Scully's eyes widened a little bit as Dr. Gleason poked the gelatinous body -making it wobble like jello. "Yes- yes, I see," she replied, taken aback (that wasn't very scientific of him). "Like a calf on new legs," she then repeated, still admittedly confused by all the southernisms, though she supposed this one was clear enough. A little smile tugged at her lips.
"The texture of the flesh is affected too then, not just the appearance." She studied the body for a moment, eyebrows furrowed and lips pursed in a focused little pout. "Now, let's try to find out what affected it."
Tumblr media
And with that, she asked for the scalpel, grabbed it, and started opening the chest in one, clean line. Or as clean as she could, with a wobbly body. "Cutting into it feels like cutting into jello, too." A little grimace. Scully used to love jello as a kid, but she doubted she'd ever manage to take a single bite of it now.
"So, tell me, what do you do at the CDC? What is your department?" A little bit of small talk as she worked. And a genuine question too, because Dr. Gleason was puzzling her.

@hvbris (@ Samantha, from Dallas)
After his argument with Lockown, Dallas had left Washington D.C. in a bad mood, and a month off in Texas had failed to cheer him up. Considering that he'd spent half of it looking at care homes for his rapidly deteriorating mother, this probably wasn't a surprise. The other half of his time had been spent trying to distract himself - which, when it came to him, meant attempting more and more dangerous rodeo stunts in the hope that either the adrenaline or the pain would cancel everything else out.
Countless bruises, a broken arm, and yet another 'breakup' with his boyfriend later, and he was back in the capital in just as bad a mood as he'd left. In fact, he was in an even worse mood because he'd come home to an HR letter by his front door - not one from the USSS, but one from his side job.
Since when was there even an HR department with that side of things? There certainly hadn't been one back when he'd first started. Maybe Lockdown had been right; maybe something had been going on behind the scenes...
As tempting as it had been to just ignore the letter, Dallas had ultimately decided to drag himself down to the office to see what all the fuss was about. Really, he supposed that part of him was just hoping for a fight, and having it out with a previously unknown HR representative seemed like a far better idea than dragging his problems into his real work.
He looked a right sight as he entered the office - all black and blue, the bruises covering his face matching the colour of his navy suit impeccably. Ever present hat still on firmly on his head, Dallas wandered over to the first person he saw, flashing a smile that would usually be charming, but this time didn't quite meet his eyes.
"Howdy, am I riding the wrong trail or is this HR? I'm supposed to have some kind of appointment booked."

"It's too late to turn back now." Fish @ Dallas for her Jurassic world verse? @imprvdente
General Sentences, Vol. 17
And why would Dallas want to turn back? He had the chance to rustle a dinosaur! Sure, it was ridiculously dangerous, and sure, it wasn't what he had been sent to the park for, but could anyone blame him for taking advantage of the situation?
He was supposed to be undercover. It was a covert espionage mission. Pretend to be a scientist, find out if anything more nefarious than a t-rex was being created in the labs, then hightail it out of there. Nice and simple. The only problem was that the whole park had lost its vertical hold!
"If you want to stay in the shadow of your mama's apron, that's fine. It's wilder than a peach orchard boar out there, but I ain't no chicken."
Was he underestimating the danger? Probably - both Lockdown and Lynchpin always said he did that - but hey, what was life without a little excitement?
"I've got me a rope and a Peacemaker; it's them dinosaurs out there that are going to want to think about turning tail."

“Is there a mystery here? Yes. Will there always be unanswered questions? Most likely. Sometimes that happens, and when it does, you just need to learn how to live with it and move on.” - Edgar for Dallas
The Outsider Sentences
Dallas was never going to admit it, but he had been thrilled to find out that one of his new colleagues was somebody he recognised. Even if he didn't work with the other man, he'd seen him about, and so it hadn't been too hard to 'accidentally' bump into him near the British embassy. From there, he'd make a habit of doing it again and again, until it got to the point where they just made plans to meet up.
He still hadn't found out what the other man's name was. Dallas knew he could, but he'd been taught to respect an agent's anonymity. He, Lynchpin, and Lockdown had all elected to ignore the fact that they knew what each other was called, and Dallas had planned on continuing that tradition with his new team members - even if some of them didn't actually have codenames yet.
Now, one of the big unanswered questions in Dallas' life was the fate of his former mentor, Lynchpin. He had read the description of the body when it had eventually been found, and he knew the location, but he longed to discover what exactly had happened. Because of that, he kept a close eye on other similar stories occurring in the area, hoping that he would one day find something that would lead him to... Well, revenge, he supposed.
A few days ago, a tourist had gone missing in Alaska. Her leg had been found the next day, with gnaw marks on it that didn't seem to belong to any kind of commonly known predator. It was a report on that situation that Dallas had brought along with him to lunch with his new colleague. He had hoped that he may be able to convince him to be interested in the matter too. Maybe they could team up to solve it? And a cell needed three people, right? So maybe he could also bring his friend-cum-fellow-agent Ethan along too!
However, his plan didn't seem to be working out, because the other man didn't actually want to solve the mystery.
"I ain't gonna accept that, I'm afraid. I'm fixin' to investigate this here matter. I know they say don't go borrowing trouble, but I don't think that we'd be whistling up the wind if we were to look into this. You ain't afraid, are you?"

“You don’t need to fake anything. You’re better than that.” - Ethan for Dallas
True Detective Sentences, Vol. 1
"You calling me a liar, Ethan?"
Dallas was usually so chipper, but that had all vanished in an instant. Clearly, the other man had unwittingly hit a sore spot. Unfortunately for him, Dallas was not the kind of guy who took personal advice well - especially when it could be interpreted as criticism!
It was a flaw that had only grown worse in recent years, too. With no figure in his life anymore to look to for guidance, Dallas had become increasingly hostile towards the suggestion that he was anything other than what he presented himself as. Perhaps that was because, on some level, he was aware that he was putting on an act. Yes, he was a legitimate cowboy - or, at least, he had been one at one point - but he did also play it up for the cameras, so to speak. Why he did that exactly... Well, Dallas didn't exactly want to explore that particular matter. He'd much rather respond with hostility and hope the topic was never brought up again.
"You can try and claim I've got more twists than a pretzel factory if you want, cowboy, but I ain't going to take that lying down. You want to rethink your accusation, or are we about to have a problem here?"

"I hope we shall become friends." lil Oceanne Holmes, happy to meet her bodyguard Dallas @imprvdente
First Meetings Sentences, Vol. 2
Dallas didn't exactly like being given the literal babysitting jobs, but he supposed he didn't mind them too much. They certainly broke up the typical tedium that could come with some of the individuals he found himself tasked with looking after, and it was impossible to deny that the kids loved him. Presumably, that was why he got saddled with them - because his whole cowboy demeanour had a habit of instantly catching their eye.
The British kid is a bit of a weird one. She was the daughter of some important fella - the kind of guy that other important people fell over themselves to get on the good side of, hence why they'd gone as far as getting a USSS agent to be his daughter's personal protection for the entirety of his trip. Anyway, both of them seemed pretty repressed and old-fashioned - but hey, that was the British for you, right?
"As long as I got a biscuit, you got half, little lady," Dallas replied, flashing the kid, Océanne, a wink and a quick smile. "You just holler if you want anything, alright? I ain't gonna wander far."

"They do tests. Psychological, medical. They look inside your head, and they insert a tracking device inside your brain sometimes. You wouldn't like that." Mina telling Dallas about her abduction? @hvbris
Alien Sentences
Now, Dallas couldn't claim to have any experience with aliens. He'd never seen any himself, though he had come across some people who had. Even if that weren't the case, he knew better than to think anything to do with aliens could be pleasant. After all, he'd seen the movies, hadn't he? Nothing good ever game of meeting extraterrestrial life in them!
"Back in the day, when I was ridin' with my old gang, Lynchpin, he knew this feller by the name of Maestro. I figure he was the leader of M-Cell, but that's neither here nor there. He claimed he'd had encounters with them E-Ts. Said the government was thick as thieves with 'em and all."
Dallas had never been sure if he should believe that story or not. On one hand, he definitely believed that aliens were real. How could he not? And he could also picture the government taking advantage of their technology. Working with them, though? Nah, he couldn't see that. Besides, if that were the case, wouldn't he have seen hints of it when he was working for the President? Dallas had seen all sorts of dodgy meetings during that job, but never one he thought had anything to do with aliens.
"Anyhow, he gone got himself killed. Weren't no aliens, mind you. Lockdown - now there's a nosy son-of-a-gun - he tried trackin' him down, and he found out Maestro's head had done imploded or somethin' fierce like that. Then again, though, now you've got me thinking about it, that might've been of one of them alien brain implants, huh?"
