You hoped these NBA prospects would turn into stars. You were wrong
We asked who failed to live up to the expectations you set for them. The answers were painful.
Earlier on Wednesday, Celtics Blog tweeted this out:
Name your favorite Celtics prospect that you were sure of... but turned into a bust. (for me it is Kedrick Brown)
— CelticsBlog (@celticsblog) August 3, 2017
That got us thinking, and prompted us to tweet this:
We're stealing an idea from @celticsblog -- Name a player you thought would be a star, but eventually ended up a bust.
— SB Nation NBA (@SBNationNBA) August 3, 2017
Team front offices put a load of time, effort and resources into scouting, but sometimes things just don’t pan out. Players appear to be the second coming of an All-Star, then turn into career journeymen and role players.
There’s nothing wrong with it; it’s the nature of the game.
Here were a few of the names Twitter shouted out as players they swore would be a star but never panned out:
Michael Beasley https://t.co/47EU0ePn8l
— Greggy Brackets (@gwizzy12) August 3, 2017
OJ Mayo or Michael Beasley https://t.co/ppzsZ5SCBc
— Christopher Novak (@ChrisNovakBECB) August 3, 2017
Derrick Williams
— KD SMH (@Dahfuk_) August 3, 2017
Hasheem thabeet
— KD SMH (@Dahfuk_) August 3, 2017
Rodney Stuckey, i was at a game where he dropped 40 and i just knew he was gonna be it for the Pistons https://t.co/deXNcokMnD
— Leondre (@MittenMadeDre) August 3, 2017
Larry Sanders. https://t.co/Xoey6fHkk7
— kam (@nikesonmyTWEET) August 3, 2017
I thought Michael Beasley was going to be what Kristaps Porzingis is. https://t.co/thPuEBZ0Yl
— Carrington Harrison (@cdotharrison) August 3, 2017
Sebastian Telfair
— Stephen Eskins (@Eskins21) August 3, 2017
Dajuan Wagner
— Paul Henning (@brewcitypaul) August 3, 2017
Not quite a star, but once upon a time it was almost a coin toss picking between Kendall Marshall and Lillard. Was also high on Biyombo https://t.co/Pf6VCojbcx
— Mark Philip Wu (@Muwu) August 3, 2017
Now, here were some of the picks the SB Nation staff made:
Mike Prada, NBA Editor: Thomas Robinson
I keep falling for the same kind of player: the combo/power forward that scores in bunches at the college level, but can’t defend or pass well enough in the NBA. Rodney White. Drew Gooden. Marcus Fizer. Chris Wilcox. Marvin Williams. Tyrus Thomas. Derrick Williams. Michael Beasley.
Robinson was my last mistake. I loved his rebounding. I loved his toughness. I loved his ability to wedge his way inside and score quickly. I forgot that he was older than his competition, wasn’t big enough to score at an NBA level and didn’t have any other skills.
I wanted the Wizards to take him over Bradley Beal. I was wrong. And I learned my lesson just in time to jump off the bandwagon for Anthony Bennett.
Pete Volk, Intern Manager: Josh Childress
I grew up in LA in a baseball family, so I didn’t get to see much basketball as a kid. The one college game I went to was USC vs. Stanford, an extremely hype Nick Young vs. Josh Childress matchup. Childress was big and looked unstoppable in the post, and teenage me was absolutely certain I was watching the next NBA superstar.
Well, Nick Young’s still in the league, and Childress is now playing in Japan. Shows what I know!
Michael Sykes, NBA Intern: Jan Vesely
Jan Vesely was the truth — or so I thought. Dude had it all. He could jump out the gym, run from end to end and finish at the rim, block shots and guard on the perimeter. If he ever figured out how to shoot? Watch out. Plus, more than anything else, he was cool as hell. I mean, who could ever forget the “Blake Griffin is the American Jan Vesely” quote?
As a Wizards fan, I hate that Vesely didn’t succeed. But I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for him. I secretly want him to return to the league and join the Warriors so he can have a shot at a title like all the other failed Wizards.
James Dator, Social Producer: Adam Morrison
I don’t have any logical reason why I thought Adam Morrison would be a star. There’s no sage basketball knowledge I can offer. All I knew is that the dude scored in bunches and everything on the internet told me he was the next Larry Bird.
It’s easy to laugh now, but he straight up balled at his last season with Gonzaga. Those early-era Bobcats were in dire need of perimeter shooting, and that, paired with Emeka Okafor in the paint was supposed to be awesome.
The guy Charlotte got was nothing like what I saw in college. He was scared to shoot the ball, always hesitated with it in his hands — and that kept getting worse, and worse, and worse.
They could have had Brandon Roy, man. They could have had Brandon Roy.
Kristian Winfield, NBA Writer: Royce White
I had Royce White as the second coming of Andre Iguodala. Unfortunately, Royce never got to show his skill set at the NBA level. That’s just the nature of the game: for one reason or another, some guys just never pan out.
Grant Brisbee, Senior MLB Writer: Anthony Randolph
The Warriors didn’t have a single lousy All-Star from 1998 through 2013, and it was embarrassing. Anthony Randolph, though, gave me hope the drought was over. He was young and springy.
And he held his own. A Warriors player holding his own back then was a big, big deal. His offensive rating and defensive rating were better than average. He was 19. He was ... oh, man, he was going to be the one.
Look at this whirling dervish of a big man:
youtube
Look at the enthusiasm at around 1:20 of that clip. Look at the standing ovation, the fans who were giddy at the glimmer of a chance at hope, which wasn’t something Warriors fans were used to.
It’s why the Knicks wanted him for David Lee, and maybe I should have known that if the Knicks wanted him, there was something wrong. But I guess the Warriors did turn Randolph into an All-Star, eventually. They just did it through a trade. It’s not how I predicted it, but I suppose it still counts.
Anthony Randolph
— eric molina (@ericvmolina) August 3, 2017
Tim Cato, NBA Writer: Gerald Green
Cato picked Gerald Green then vanished into thin air without providing a reason for his pick. So I’m going to argue in this space why Green wasn’t a bust. (Instead, we should throw MarShon Brooks here.)
Green was drafted on his athleticism, something he showed he still has even into his 30s. He then developed his offensive repertoire, culminating in Phoenix with career-highs for a Suns team that just missed the playoffs a few seasons ago.
Green became more than just a dunker. He’s shown an ability to score from the inside-out. If Derrick Jones Jr. develops a similar offensive attack, I think Suns fans would be pleased. For those reasons, I don’t consider Gerald Green a bust. He’s a hooper.
Besides how can a guy who does this:
youtube
or this:
youtube
... be considered a bust?

North Carolina A&T men capture first MEAC indoor track & field title in 21 years
Tumblr media
LANDOVER, Md. -  The North Carolina A&T State men’s indoor track and field team sprinted to its first title in 21 years after claiming the 2017 MEAC Indoor Championship. Only 10.5 points separated four teams entering Saturday’s finals on the men’s side with Norfolk State sitting atop the ledger. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Khalil Rmidi Kinini won the mile run in a time of 4:14.86 but Hampton jumped to the top after claiming third, fourth and fifth in the event. Because of the mile, North Carolina A&T State dropped to fourth but things would change in an instant once the sprints started as Dajuan Harding posted the top and a personal indoor-best time (47.75) in the 400 to claim the title. Hampton’s Charles Graham claimed the 60-meter hurdles as he clocked 7.95 but A&T racked up 15 points and moved to third after placing second, fourth and seventh in the event. The Aggies blew the meet open once the 60-meter dash commenced as Christopher Belcher (6.65), Rodney Rowe (6.76), Joel Thomas (6.78) and Caleb Gabriel (6.79) finished 1-2-3-4 to total 29 points and move atop the standings with 83.5 points. Belcher returned to the track several minutes later in the 200 and picked up his second individual title as he finished the race with a season-best run of 21.38. Belcher had a tough race as he held off fellow teammates Rowe and Gabriel down the stretch. With the lead comfortably in tow, the Aggies brought the crowd to its feet after posting the top time in the mile relay (3:16.91). Howard’s Robert Mercer won his fourth MEAC pole vault title and his first since 2015 after posting a mark of 14-06. Christopher Lee of Norfolk State won his second consecutive indoor shot put title (55-3) after a tight battle with Hampton’s Sulaiman Fared. Michael Tiller of Bethune-Cookman closed out his career as a three-time MEAC indoor triple jump champion with a jump of 52-08.75 while Rmidi Kinini also went out in style with his third consecutive 3,000-meter run championship. The Aggies, which ended Bethune-Cookman’s two-year MEAC Indoor Championship run, won their first MEAC Championship since 1996 behind the strength of 146.5 points. Norfolk State finished as the runner-up with 96 points followed by Hampton’s 91 points. Reject Cast: Game Face - Chapter Two: I'm Growing Up To Be A Big Boy (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/1425663100-reject-cast-game-face-chapter-two-i%27m-growing-up
Lemao's finally free from the grips of middle school. Her label as a reject not as daunting anymore. She's moving onto a new challenge: Surviving high school. But this time she's on her own, no friends in sight. The silver lining this time? She's prepared. Or, she was, until a group of boys find their way into her life. Not leaving despite the dangers Lemao's current life possesses. She's eager to keep them around as much as she's eager to shoo them away. In the end, what will she do?

Note
When it comes to the main cast, how physically and emotionally affectionate are they with each other?
It depends, Ethan isn't super physically affectionate, not in a traditional way anyways. But emotionally he's very affectionate in his own way.
Lemao and Isaac are both extremely physically and emotionally affectionate.
Dajuan's fairly emotionally affectionate but doesn't fully like being physically affectionate unless it's to comfort others. So he's physical affection carries a lot of ways. But he always accepts physical affection from his friends that he doesn't have to reciprocate.
Tantum LOVES and THRIVES on physical affection, the man needs it to survive like a plant. He's not the best at emotional affection, but he does his best.
Rebecca isn't very good at affection period. Girl is bad at initiating and receiving it. But she loves a good solid hug.

Dajuan Lee!
Here he is at last! My boy Dajuan!
Tumblr media
What's His Backstory?
Dajuan was a former popular kid who never quite wanted to acknowledge his popularity. Which just added to it as a down-to-earth, relaxed person anyone could hang out with. So his downfall? Well, no ones quite sure why Dajuan started hanging out with the likes of Lemao and the others. Some say he hides a dark secret and is using the rejects as a cover up to it. Others say it was just an accident and one day, when Dajuan may come to his senses, he'll be a popular kid once again.
What's He Like?
Dajuan's considered to be level-head amongst the group. Still as down-to-earth and chill as he was when he was popular. The others consider him to be the most logical of the group due to those few characteristics. He also tends to be fairly trusting and empathetic to new comers of the rejects. Understanding them on a level the others don't always tend to. But it's mostly his intuition about people that makes him a great addition to the group.
More About Him:
Dajuan's full name is Dajuan Xavier Lee
Dajuan doesn't grow between freshman to junior year, staying at 5'6 throughout the series
He's an only child and lives not only with his mom and dad, but also his aunt and her partner, all of them sharing a house together
He adores and loves his family just as much as they adore and love him
Dajuan's birthday is 09/25/01 making him 17 by his junior year
Fun Facts!
Dajuan enjoys sweets specifically ice cream or frozen treats are a great bribe for him! Otherwise any kind of chocolate bar will do
He enjoys puzzle games anything that gets his gears turning his excited to play. Some of his favorite types of games to play are usually word association games
He enjoys kick boxing though he's never done it before, it's defiantly a sport he likes to keep up with and if ever given the chance, one he'd be ecstatic about learning
Dajuan plays the Trumpet in band an instrument he's been playing since he entered middle school and will probably continue learning even once he graduates high school
He's in marching band, something he's worked very hard to get into and is very proud of achieving
Dajuan's a coffee lover and enjoys his coffee cold, ice coffee is a delight he enjoys having and will often try and pick up if he's going out anywhere
