Kai: *Runs full speed into a wall for some reason*
Daiyu: *Runs into it after him*
Kai: "Why did you run into the wall?!"
Daiyu, deadpan: "I don't know, I was following you."

Sneak Peak At Some WIP KFP Drabbles:
1) Innocent (Kai & Daiyu)
He looked innocent.
Not always, of course- no one in their right mind would have even thought to refer to him in such a way, especially if they knew all of his titles and deeds: one couldn't think 'innocent' was an adjective complementary with someone called The Maker of Widows, or Master of Pain. Words had meaning, after all, and titles were earned.
His appearance wasn't innocent, either. Eyes glowing green with stolen life, evil seeming to radiate from his powerful form like the aura of light around the sun. Even his smile was wicked, as crooked as his moral compass-if he even had one.
And yet, although Daiyu knew this, she couldn't help but think that he looked innocent- now, at least. He had his head resting on her lap, at an angle so the side horns wouldn't poke her. The evil eyes were closed, the furrowed brow now having relinquished its usual tension. Even the aura had dimmed.
There was something there, just under his skin, something that might show if she only scratched. Her claws flexed, but she held the tips mindfully away from his face. He wasn't aware of the danger; he assumed (too readily, she thought) that she was innocent.
And perhaps he was right. Daiyu didn't really think that she could hurt him, even if his greed finally overpowered whatever few scruples he had left, and he decided that he wanted her qi after all. Then she'd be helpless- if only because of her own convictions holding her back.
2) Parents: (Kai & Daiyu)
Kai paused in sharpening his blade. There was a short silence, full of tension, and then he sighed.
"...He was a good man," he said, "leave it at that."
"There must be more." She said. Kai grunted and relented.
"He was a passive, pacifist weakling," Kai growled through his grinding teeth, "who wanted me to be as spineless as him- who expected me to kowtow to every single person who spat insults or threats for the sake of keeping the peace."
He scoffed and gripped the handle of one of his blades so hard Daiyu almost feared that it would crack; but Kai valued his weapons too much to be so careless. His grip loosened, and the anger with it, though the tension remained. He sighed.
"...For all his wisdom, he really only understood books, and not people- at least, not nearly as well as he thought he did."
3) Soft (Li Shan & Mr. Ping)
Everything about him was soft. From his fur to the way he smiled, everything about him was soft. Even the faint lines of grief that surrounded his eyes were muted, and the years of mourning had not been enough to destroy his kindness.
And everyone loved Li Shan for it. It wasn’t hard to see why: he gave off warmth like a hearth, and his generosity and patience was unstinting. He took care of everyone around him- the type to give you the shirt off his back, if you only asked for it.
Now Mr. Ping knew where Po had gotten it from.
4) Some Don't Heal (Kai & Oogway)
"Why is that Oogway? Why am I still alive? Why is the universe playing this cruel joke on me?"
He spread his arms as if to gesture to the bright, verdant landscape all about them, the beauty and tranquility of the place itself almost a mockery of what the two had been through only just outside the protection of the mountains.
"Why did everyone else die- even you, almost- while I got out completely unscathed?"
It was an exaggeration, Oogway knew- he saw a large burn scar on the back of Kai's shoulder, and there were a few places where stray arrows may have struck him; there also was a wound on his leg, on the side of his left knee, that Oogway had had to sew up again many times over due to Kai's nighttime pacing. Still, Oogway didn't respond; he just hadn't the words to explain- and how could he? Kai leaned in.
"Why is that, Oogway?" He said again.
5) Spider's Webbing (Kai & Zhizhu)
The spider blinked all four of his eyes. "You…don't know where you are?" He said.
Kai squinted at him. It was really dim in here, and the only light source seemed to come from that strange myriad of eyes. "Should I?"
The spider looked away and fell into silence. One of his smaller legs came up, a claw tapping thoughtfully under his jaw. "No," he said softly after a moment, "I suppose you shouldn't."
He glanced at him again, and there was a slight glint in his eyes, like light reflecting off the blade of a knife, sharp and full of dangerous potential.
"How did you get here, may I ask?"
Kai raised his brows at him and shrugged. "I was just walking along, enjoying the sights, and next thing I know, I'm suddenly falling down a pit, only to get caught in something sticky."
Here he raised one of his arms to reveal that some strands of web were still clinging to his fur- there were also a few patches of bare skin, telling of a very painful method of disentangling himself from the trap. Zhizhu drew in a sharp breath almost involuntarily in sympathy- and he hoped it would be the first and last time he did so.
Kai shrugged. "Now I'm here." He lowered his arm, but then the strands got stuck to his side and pants leg. The bull grunted in anger and pulled at it, and Zhizhu could see where it pulled his fur- and most likely the skin under it- with it. He winced and reached forward.
"Uh…Here, please let me help with that."
The bull turned his glare on him, his voice sharp and accusatory: "This is yours?"
Zhizhu paused, if only because of how sudden the anger was. Kai snorted.
"Stupid question," he grumbled, "I know…Sure, get this stuff off of me."
6) Aftermath (Oogway)
It was over- the battle was over, and now the aftermath of it had begun. Oogway stood where he had landed, staring at the empty space where Kai had once been. There was no blood, no body, no victory, save in the sense that the goal he had started out with had been accomplished; but he had not won. Far from it.
He didn’t think about that, though. It was too soon for the full ramifications of his actions to hit him with their weight- a weight that he could not yet bear; not now. There was still the absence to process, the bitterness of the pyrrhic victory to overcome. Kai was gone. He could see that, and now he was beginning to understand it. The finger hold move had worked. Kai had been defeated before he could do any more harm.
The pandas as well as the sanctity of chi was saved. Oogway took in a shuddering breath and leaned his staff on his shoulder. He cast one last look at the empty space before him, then turned quickly on his heel. The air here had begun to become tense and heavy, like the atmosphere before a storm set in.
He walked back to the village, keeping his gaze straight ahead, his mind empty- but the tension followed him, growing heavier and heavier on his shell. He still didn’t think- at least, not consciously. But that storm was bearing down on him, building up power and speed the more he tried to resist it…and then it struck.
Oogway stopped suddenly. His legs shook, and then he realized that he was very tired, and not just because of the exertion the fight had put him through. Of his own compunction he fell to his knees onto the soft earth, and at the same time a realization -one he had been trying to hold off-  finally dawned.
He's dead. Kai is dead. I killed him.
Tears were running down his face. He tried to breathe, tried to swallow the lump that choked him, but he couldn't. His mind as well as his body were outside of his control.
He needed help, he was suffering. He was suffering so much that he lost himself…and I killed him. He needed my help, and I killed him. It's my fault he ended up this way.
And now he was gone forever. Oogway remembered the way Kai had looked at him that final time, with those horrid demonic eyes, eyes not his own-
But they were his eyes, underneath the green veneer they were still his eyes- full of hurt, confusion, his mouth moving, trying to form words- what was he trying to say? No one will ever know, now. I didn't even give him the chance to say his last words.
And that thought made Oogway want to crawl into his shell and never emerge again. He covered a sob with his hands, but didn't dare close his eyes for fear that the image of Kai's face would come back to haunt him. With a desperation driven by grief he fixed his gaze on the grass and tried to focus on the physical sensations of the present moment.
But he couldn’t. No matter what he did, he couldn’t stop his mind from forcing him to relive the fight again and again.
7) Do The Dead Still Feel? (Daiyu)
And there was still a taste of metal on her breath, lingering on the tines of her tongue. She no longer hungered for air, but she found her chest heaving anyway, some compression on these copies of her lungs that obediently pumped for a body that no longer needed it- save for somewhere in the left side of the yawning cavity of her chest, there was a slight sagging sensation, a delay that would have been painful if she still had the nerves to feel it.
Daiyu's right hand reached up, almost without her conscious will, claws tracing along a thin, precise scar between two of her ribs, just under the cloth. Her breath- (her breath, her breath, horrible, unneeded breathing)- hitched, and her claws curled inward harmlessly towards her palm. Tears- these, also unneeded, but actually wanted this time- rolled down her face.
Again that ice cold realization took over her body, drenching it in numbness; it shouldn't have been a realization, she'd known this for so long by now, long enough for the shock to have settled, but for whatever reason it never did stick.
She was dead. She was dead. She was dead, dead, dead.
Why did it still hurt?
Her eyes shifted over towards Kai, the mountainous shadow of his body only just in front of her, and she considered asking him if he ever felt the same. She would have, the question was on the tip of her tongue…but she never did ask. Perhaps she was afraid of the answer.
She prayed to Guan Yin that he didn't feel the same.

Lady Daiyu Long: Random Headcanons
She has horrendous handwriting. It's so bad that no one can read it. When she was alive she had to dictate her letters and messages.
One reason for this may be because when she was younger her parents tried to send her to a poetry camp to help improve her handwriting and teach her literary skills- but she secretly joined a circus instead for that summer. She did aerial silk dancing, tightrope walking, acrobatics, and trapeze (skills which later helped her much more than literature ever could).
She has always had a ridiculously high pain tolerance, even as a small child. Once when she was three she fell down a small set of stone steps, but by the time her mother ran over to comfort her she was already up and playing again as if nothing had happened.
Daiyu cannot stand being tickled. If anyone tries to tickle her she will immediately become violent.
She's Buddhist, but not particularly religious; even though her family was wealthy, they spent most of their money helping to improve the lives of others and benefit the city. She believes in reincarnation and karma, and is acutely aware of her own immense karmic debt.
She's a pacifist, but by no means a completely nonviolent one; she believes that force should be used if necessary, if one can't talk their opponent out of a fight; and then that force should be strictly non-lethal.
She has no respect for rich people who carelessly flaunt their wealth in gaudy displays of opulence; her own family lived very simply.
She knows how to sail. Her family had a house right on the lake of their city, and their own boat. Her father taught her how.
She usually holds her hands behind her back if she isn't holding anything- she copied this from her father. When she is holding something she's always playing with it in some way- save for her staff.
She tends to be very deadpan, but especially when she's making a joke- usually in the form of a pun.
Her "stone faced" persona arose as a masking technique used to make people take her more seriously.
She's terrible at making tea and doing small chores- she's used to having servants to do these things for her, but she does try to learn how to these things for herself, though she isn't always successful.
She has an enormous appetite most of the time, and won't hesitate to eat anything that's available no matter how gross or seemingly inedible it may be- including garbage that's been sitting out in the sun for who knows how long.

Lol. I can already imagine Modern AU!Kai being forced to sit through these films thanks to Daiyu while being like: "Why did you even make watch these films?"
"Why are you even making me watch these films?"
"It gets better."
"You said that six scenes ago, too: and guess what?- It didn't."
Daiyu smiled, ever so slightly. She kept her eyes carefully glued to the screen. Her blue tongue flickered in and out.
"Just keep watching."
Kai let out a long, exaggerated groan and sank even further onto the couch- if he sank any more, he'd slip right off the suede. He crossed his arms over his chest, looking for all the world like a child; the movie was so bad, it had reduced the battle-hardened, retired military general to this. A few more scenes passed. Kai groaned again.
"It's bad, Daiyu. It's just bad. Pick another one. Please, it's killing me. You're killing me- or my brain, at least."
Daiyu glanced at him from the corner of her eye. She tried to keep on that facade of serene stoicism, but her smile crept from her face and into her voice:
"Perhaps that's my plan," she said. She watched the screen again. "Perhaps I'm going to make you watch these horrible movies until you go insane, and then I can have you committed and cash in on the insurance."
Kai snorted. "Wasn't that the plot of the last one?"
Daiyu's facade shattered. She threw her head back and groaned. "No, Kai- that's this one. Are you even watching the movie?"
"No! That's the point, Daiyu- I don't want to watch it! You're making me!"
"Hey, you said I could pick the movie tonight."
"And I realize now that that was a stupid decision. I'm never letting you pick another movie ever again. This is it: you've lost all film choice privileges."
Daiyu grinned at him. Her tongue flickered again. "It's my T.V., Fatty."
"And it's hours of both of our lives being wasted."
"You were going to do that, anyway."
Kai glared at her. "Make me get off this couch."
Daiyu jumped up from the loveseat, pillow in hand. "No need," she said calmly, "I'll come to you."
And then she rushed over and started beating him with it. The bull snorted, but didn't resist as it bounced off of him.
"Yes, please," Kai said, "end my suffering- better yet, give me that- I'll smother myself so I don't have to watch the rest of this."
He grinned and made to grab at the pillow, but Daiyu held it out of his reach, smiling down at him mischievously.
"Oh no, you don't! I still need you around to get through the sequel."
Kai feigned horror. "A sequel? They really made a sequel to this? You're joking- now that I have to see."
Daiyu plopped down next to him, picking up the remote.
"Oh, trust me: you have no choice in that."

Jaded Destiny Drabbles: Sparring
Summary: Kai and Daiyu are bored. What better way to ease that boredom than with a sparring match?
Warning: Strong language towards the end.
There was little to do- nothing, in fact; nothing they hadn’t already done several times over, anyway. Nothing that needed to be done again. When you were undead, with no need to sleep or eat or build a campsite, there was very little to do besides check your weapons for damage between fights.
It was one of those pauses, licking their metaphorical wounds after a recent encounter with the Dragon Master and the Five, that brought Kai and Daiyu to their current place. Kai had one of his blades out of its holster as he studied it, again checking it for chips, though he had already done so many times over. Daiyu had examined her staff (unnecessary really, a metal stick could take some heavy damage before showing it) and was now just occupying her time by watching him.
His teeth began to grind together, and she watched his fur bristle. A smile made its way across her face- subtle, always subtle, but present. She intensified her stare, imagining burning a hole into his furrowed brow. Kai’s teeth ground together even louder, and then finally he glared up at her.
“What?” He snapped.
Daiyu chuckled. “So irritable.”
“So annoying,” he shot back.
That amused her more. “Are you so bored that you’d start something over a little bit of staring?”
Kai huffed. He rolled the handle of the knife in his hand. “I’m not the one starting anything. I’m finishing it.”
Daiyu raised her brows ever so slightly. Then she reached behind her, placing a hand around her staff.
“Oh? But we haven’t even begun.”
Kai glanced at her staff, then back at her. His eyes widened slightly as he realized the offer she was actually throwing out to him. He grinned and reached for his other knife, now standing.
“Then shall we?”
She stood as well. Her smile was all the answer he needed.
He approached her slowly, swinging the chains at his sides so that the blades scraped against the floor with each swing, sending up sparks to mark his passage: an intimidating display. Daiyu, however, was not so affected. She didn’t move an inch- save for her head. It steadily tilted to one side, and then hung that way.
Something in the gesture provoked him. He suddenly rushed at her, spinning his blades in wide arcs. She dodged them, slipping under their range  with a speed and grace no one would have expected from a body that not a moment before had been as still as a statue. Her staff swung out, aiming for the back of his knees.
Kai jumped only just in time and tugged on the chains, bringing them rapidly down and then around. One of the chains hit her, sending her flying across the space. Daiyu quickly righted herself, cartwheeling through the air before landing on all fours. Her staff clattered to the ground a little ways beyond her.
Kai chuckled. “Disarmed, at a distance, and disappointing. Don’t know why I expected a challenge from you, Little Lizard.”
She smiled up at him, though she was hissing. Her blue tongue flickered out and in.
“Who said we were done, Little Cow? Did I yield?”
Now Kai tilted his head, making the same slow movement she had before- mockery in the mimicry.
“You should. I could do a lot worse, you know.”
“You can?” She sounded and looked genuinely surprised, but Kai recognized her disguised brand of sarcasm; then he realized what he had said, how she had twisted it against him, and he growled.
“Oh, that’s it!” He launched his blades at her again, but now she was on her feet, jumping over the weapons as they whipped at her. They got slightly stuck in the ground, giving her only just enough time to reach her staff and grab it again.
He pulled back and hurled them in her direction. She ran at them, slipping in the space between the chains and spinning her staff until they were wrapped firm around it. Kai smirked and chuckled. He pulled the chains- and her with them.
But rather than offer resistance, Daiyu jumped, picking up her feet and simply allowing him to pull her forward at rapid speed. Only once she was close enough did he notice her smirk, mirroring his own. His face fell, but it was too late to do anything about it: her feet shot out suddenly, kicking him in the stomach. He coughed and stumbled back, his weight in comparison to hers keeping him on his feet, but the blow had still been a hard one.
Daiyu smiled. "Ready to give up, Little Cow?"
Kai glared at her and snorted. He gripped the chains harder, and then she suddenly remembered that her staff was still tangled with them. He pulled and swung the chains- and her- in a larger and larger circle. Daiyu held onto her staff, her mind wiped blank by the suddenness of the attack. Kai began to spin faster and faster- then he let go.
Daiyu went flying through the air again. The world was for a moment a sickening blur of color and wind, and then she made impact with a nearby cliff wall, rolled off, and hit the ground. It was fortunate that being a spirit warrior had so many perks: she felt only a little pain, and was on her feet again in no time. Kai cracked his neck, eyeing her all the while.
“Ready to yield yet?” He said, his tone casual, though he still gripped the chains in his hands tightly.
Her response was to rush at him again- she was unarmed, but she had her fighting skills, and the advantage provided by close-quarters combat; Kai’s weapons were still entangled with her staff, and wouldn’t be of much use to him there. She ran at him and sent a high kick at his jaw.
He quickly leaned away, only barely dodging the blow. Then he dropped the chains and went for a punch- but Daiyu was too fast. She dodged and spun, whipping out her tail. It cracked the air dangerously close to his right ear with a painful auditory snap, and all he could hear on that side of his head after was an irritating ring.
Kai covered that ear with a hand, an instinctual reaction that did nothing to help. Daiyu attacked again, now whipping the air near his left ear. Ringing now filled his head, rendering him effectively deaf. He saw her duck out of sight behind him, and he turned to keep her in sight- but then he felt something hard hit against the side of his left horn, a painful reverberation traveling through his entire skull.
Daiyu went to hit his other side while he was so disoriented- but he reacted blindly, flinging a muscular arm out to block the blow. It made contact, but it wasn’t harmful; it took much more to hurt him these days- not that she was seriously trying to hurt him, anyway. Kai shot out his other arm, aiming to grab the front of her shirt- but she deftly dodged, again spinning away then around to repeat her attack.
Kai ducked under the blow and came up to her side, grabbing her arm. He tugged her to him, aiming to go for her staff- but his dizziness made him misjudge the distance, and he missed. Her tail wrapped around his leg, pulling it back to trip him, but Kai was too heavy for such a trick to work. She was closer, now, and this time he was able to dodge another blow and grab her staff.
He disarmed her easily, tossing the weapon away and punching her in the stomach. Daiyu grunted, but didn’t bend. She head-butted him in the chest, making him stumble back, and then tried to trip him again with a more simple tail swipe. It worked this time. He fell onto his back with a thud, allowing her just enough time to go for her staff; she would have tried to pin him, if she hadn’t known that the attempt would have been pointless.
But he was faster than she thought: she felt something grab her ankle as she lunged, pulling her suddenly back, and then she was on the ground again. Instinct kicked in, and she lashed with her tail, making contact with something bulky- probably his stomach. He grunted, and she took the opportunity to scramble out from under him and onto her feet before he could pin her down. She turned to face him, adjusting her stance into a proper battle position, feet wide and fists raised; she knew better than to turn her back on him now.
Kai smiled as he rose to his feet. His eye glanced over towards her staff, then back at her, his smirk widening. He was daring her to go after it. This too, she knew better than to do: he was closer now, carefully blocking off her route to it, ready to lunge if she should try.
Neither of them moved for a while, though the tensity radiating through the air spoke of the potential for movement, for action, if either one of them made the slightest start…and then, slowly, it began to fade. Daiyu felt it, and saw Kai’s muscles relax, saw the hints of boredom play out on his features. He loosened his posture, eyes becoming half-lidded, shoulders slumping slightly. Even his weight adjusted, leaning back on his heels in an insouciant pose.
Daiyu couldn’t resist the temptation- but not for what he may have expected. She rushed at him, throwing all of her (not insignificant) weight into a strike to his chest meant to push him over. It should have worked- the move had always worked, back when she had faced larger opponents. But Kai didn’t move; he was pushed back perhaps an inch, but he hadn’t leaned at all, his legs stiff and firm beneath him, his stance unbroken. Her eyes went wide. She looked up at him.
Kai chuckled. “Stay apparatus,” he said, and then punched her in the face.
Really, she only blamed herself: she should have recognized such a trick, as she knew Kai’s methods fairly well at this point. Of course he had wanted her to lunge for him- he had purposefully made himself a target, all to get her closer.
She went flying before flipping herself in the air and landing on all fours. Daiyu scrambled over to him. Kai stood ready, prepping himself for another blow, but then she slipped between his legs and far behind him. Kai almost turned, confused, and then her tail whipped around, cracking him on the back of the head.
He stumbled, falling forward, and she tackled him, finally knocking him off balance and onto the ground. Again, she should have known better: Kai was heavier, bigger, and she wasn’t going to be able to hold him down for long- not unless she had her staff. She looked up at where it laid, far across the space.
He bucked, but she used the momentum he provided to launch herself at it. But then she felt him grabbing her tail. Daiyu twisted in midair, kicking him square in the jaw. He released her, and she did a rising handspring to get on her feet again, now facing him in a defensive stance.
Kai dropped to all fours and charged, hitting her square-on. Daiyu grabbed his horns. She tried to flip herself over them, but Kai tossed her away even further from her staff. She twisted in the air and landed on her feet. He sent a forceful punch her way, but she leaned out of the way, grabbing his wrist and twisting it. Kai struck with his other fist, but Daiyu again leaned away, then twisted his arm again to shield herself from another blow.
He growled and pulled her towards him, using his knee to bash her shin. Daiyu’s leg was knocked back, destroying her stability, and Kai used the grip she had on his arm to throw her entirely off-balance; but she used her tail to re-stabilize herself and kicked his stomach with both feet. If he had still been mortal, that would have completely knocked the breath from him. Kai staggered backwards, releasing her, and Daiyu went in for the attack. Her fist flung out as quick as a snake strike, aiming for his face- but it stopped within a centimeter of his snout. She twisted her wrist around, and then the middle finger extended, flicking his nose.
Oh. Oh, now she’s done it.
He grabbed her arm and pulled her in, headbutting her as hard as he could. Daiyu stumbled back a few steps, dazed. Her tail swiped in an arc, clattering against something cold. She wrapped her tail around it and quickly snatched it up, bringing it into her hand. He was charging again, he didn’t yet notice the danger-
And then she brought her staff around, cracking him in the side of the head. His eyes widened, and he stumbled to the side. Daiyu tackled him, sending them both rolling until she was on top. She straddled his waist, pressing the staff against his throat. She hissed in victory, her tongue flickering in and out in self-satisfied delight.
“I think I’ve won,” she said.
Kai tsked. She felt something sharp poking into her stomach, just under her ribcage. The grin he now wore was as crooked as his teeth.
“Think again,” he said.
Daiyu knew that it was a risk, taking her eyes off of her opponent, but she glanced down anyway. A glowing green blade was in Kai’s hand, pressing against her flesh. In retrospect, she really should have restrained his arms; better yet, she should have paid attention to what he had been doing while they rolled, should have taken note of where his weapons had last laid. Still, she had pinned him, and this was not a real fight, for such a dirty move on his part to count.
She smiled at him. “We’ll call it a draw.”
He snorted. “A draw? When I could easily disembowel you in this position?”
“And I could either snap your neck or strangle you before you could,” Daiyu said, all straightforward calm. She climbed back onto her feet and extended her hand to help him up. He took it and rose, sheathing the blade.

“Yeah, right. You just don’t want to admit you’ve lost, as usual.”
“No, you just don’t want to admit that I’ve won, as usual,” she said.
Kai smiled. “Bitch.”
She smiled right back, serene. “Asshole.”
“Cunt.”
“Dick.”
“Rematch?”
“Sure.”

And for Daiyu in the Modern AU? What does she do during the Halloween holiday? Watch horror movies with Kai?
Daiyu's probably doing a Halloween event at the Black Dragon Dojo dressed as Morticia Addams or Beatrix, doing tai chi classes and hosting a trick or treat for the kids. She tries to get Kai to be Gomez or Bill but he never complies. They still attend parties though or watch bad horror movies together, if they end up having no plans.

Welp It's Short But Here It Is:
The first song really is more of Daiyu's theme in my mind (yes because Kai's theme is also an Imagine Dragon's song) but it also fits Daiyu's perspective on the entire situation she's in in regards to the events of Jaded Destiny and her relationship with Kai.
