some criticisms i have of episode 2. read the tags first please.

disclaimer: i am a targtowers’ stan first and foremost. that means: aegon, helaena, aemond and daeron. they’re my favorite characters. that’s where my ‘loyalty’ stands. everyone else (including alicent) comes after.

helaena’s grief should’ve been a bigger point in the episode. this is HER episode and aegon’s (i’m not complaining about him but her screentime was so low). everyone else, rhaenyra, alicent, yada yada is secondary.

alicent can light up candles for her enemy’s son but can’t even attend the funeral of her grandson 🙄 she doesn’t cry, curse the blacks, want to bathe in the blood of jaehaerys’ killers, or can even bring herself to say his name.

i love aegon’s performance. i love all of his grief manifested in rage and anger. he cries but he will kick everyone later. tom go get your emmy.

girl your daughter just lost a son and you want to talk about you fucking your bodyguard. i’m tired of her. helaena is with all right of ignoring her.

a larys/aegon scene is all i could wish for. the cold mastery of secrets and torture combined with the unstoppable wrath of a wounded man. i need more of them.

i like how the funeral seems, by all accounts, normal but by helaena’s viewpoint everything is too much. the people claim for her showing support but it’s all noise. the carriage showing her little boy so that people know who to blame but it only reminds her more of what happened. he even looks like he’s sleeping.

tbh this scene shows how rhaenyra doesn’t fucking care about helaena and her children. the first thought she had when she heard of the news wasn’t to have compassion or empathy, but to do damage control and worry about her reputation.

lmao i don’t have a clue what daemon’s intentions and rationality is. he only cares about looking mighty and dangerous to other people even when he does dumb shit, then justifies it. he lives only for other people’s opinions but then everyone hates his ass lol. dilffailure.

also he’s the embodiment of living for a dick measuring contest he ends up losing. all of daemon’s behavior can be attributed to erectile dysfunction.

how the writers found time for an oc prostitute having a mommy kink scene with aemond but didn’t have more time for a longer scene with helaena and literally anyone is beyond me.

aemond talking about his regret for luke but not about the death of his nephew 💀 luke died like three years ago condal pls get over it. aemond would care more about jaehaerys than poor little luke.

some much needed baela character development. i love characters that are like the female version of their dad but then also fucking hate their dad lol

i liked the tidbits of the dragonseeds during the episode. i’d like some nettles too :) but i guess the only female and canonically black character is a little too much for this show amirite :)

of course daemon would never be able to bend to anyone he considers inferior, much less rhaenyra, who under any other circumstance would be seen as ‘lesser than him’. it reminds him of his failures. i’m glad we’re on the same page.

aegon never had a chance right? aegon was literally raised by hightowers in love with targaryens. he never would’ve been able to surpass viserys and rhaenyra in otto and alicent’s eyes. nothing he did could’ve changed that.

otto’s little laugh cost him a job lol. i’m sad we didn’t get his cats.

the focus on rhaenyra in the arryk/erryk fight is too much for me. once again, leave secondary characters have their moments instead of shoving r or a down my throat please. this is their especial moment, their last moment. rhaenyra being all 😨🧍🏼‍♀️ between their shots does nothing for the scene.

otto’s realization of his life’s work being flushed down the drain is so touching and painful in a way to me. he’s like tywin if he lived long enough to see cersei and tommen fuck everything up.

‘i have sinned’ ‘i do not wish to hear of it’ that’s peak cersei and tywin from that one scene when she confessed the incest.

daeron exists? yay. and once again i’m fucking tired of alicent not reacting to mention of daeron, not comforting helaena, bashing aemond, ignoring aegon. where’s the love for her children?

the scene of otto putting resting his face on his hands? chills. it should’ve lingered there. showcase otto’s regret? grief? idk. pity it just lasted half a second because we needed to see alicent once more.

from now on, alicent is cancelled for me. i don’t care anymore about her. any parent that leaves their child in distress to go fuck can eat shit. i gave that treatment to daemon in laena’s funeral and i’m giving it to her.

we have more sex scenes of alicent than we have of daemon and aegon combined. yet she’s the pious queen and they’re the lechers. condal please write accordingly.

how do i watch a show when i don’t care for the two main characters, because they’re cardboard cuts of women who don’t do anything? i don’t know.

Brainrotting a wind breaker daemon au during my last class for the week with my bestie on discord (😘 @prunus-rosales ) is definitely how I want to spend my weekend.

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman anyone?? I watched The Golden Compass (2007) movie a long time ago which I didn't know was my first exposure to daemons.

Anyways, since Sakura's young, his daemon would still be able to shift forms so here's my current list rn:

Tuxedo Maine Coon = frequent form

White Bengal Tiger = usually used during fights (not all the time but when the fight gets especially brutal)

Common ringed plover = also used in fights (to escape usually but will pluck another daemon's eye or two), but is also another frequent form especially if Sakura's too tired to carry a ~4kg furball on his shoulders or just to hide.

The daemon's definitely going to be the same-sex as Sakura, so his daemon would be male and he'd probably the only one in Fūrin with a male daemon 😭. To add to his tragic backstory and ostracization from society ✨️.

I imagine his daemon would be very sweet maybe a little shy, like his inner desires for affection and acceptance you know? As Sakura gets more comfortable with Class 1-1 with time, his daemon would definitely take a more caring and parental approach to class' daemons. The class looks up to Sakura and their daemons look up to his daemon. Stick with me here, but visualize this: his daemon in his tiger form holding nirei's daemon by the scruff like they would a cub.

Anyways yeah, since im doing this with Ales and with the help of some ideas in a windbreaker server she's in, there's a lot more to this au that has been established. (More than the jidaigeki au rip 💔)

SEASON 2 EPISODE 4 THOUGHTS

Daemon being tormented by visions of his past is so juicy. I hope we see a similar sequence once Aemond takes over Harrenhal.

POOR RHAENYS! She and Corlys seemed very much in love, so the knowledge of an affair that was so lengthy it produced not just one but TWO children has got to hurt like an absolute bitch.

Leaving Jace and Baela to take the heat while both of their parents are off doing gods know what was pure evil omg. At least Grammy Rhaenys always has their back.

And the sass? Lmao everyone is on some different shit this episode. Aemond, Alicent, Baela, Jace, Rhaenyra, etc etc. I LOVE IT.

Do you think Cole is brave and ruthless or just begging for death lowkey? I think these traits go hand in hand at times.

Gwayne is the only one scared enough to admit how crazy all that shit seems.

Watching Aegon realize his own uselessness is sad, I must admit. After everyone impressed upon him the importance of his inheritance and how much has been sacrificed in order to give it to him, I reckon he must have thought that he was important as an individual as well. Why else go to such lengths? It’s just as I imagine Alicent felt when she realized all of her years of suffering were pointless. He doesn’t realize he was basically meant to be a puppet, like his father was before him. Otto and Alicent were the real rulers. But now Otto is gone and no one listens to Alicent, and people have grown tired of pretending that Aegon isn’t mostly irrelevant.

Good for Aemond though. Like yeah you can laugh at me if you want, but everyone that matters knows you’re the biggest joke of all.

I do feel a bit sad when Alicent unleashes her pent-up feelings at Aegon. Their relationship is so fraught it drives me insane.

Is she wrong though? Lol. I just wish she would apply her sass to more than just her eldest son.

Some tension in the relationship between Jace and Rhaenyra. He desperately wants to be of use and Rhaenyra is much more reserved with her heirs these days, understandably so. I’m glad she told him about the song of ice and fire though.

Rhaenys volunteering to go made me sad. I knew it was coming, but still.

The whole dragon sequence was fucking insane. Vhagar blending in with the forest floor was cool as hell. Aegon stumbling into a life-or-death situation when he CLEARLY has no idea what is going on after a fight with his mother is peak teen behavior. Aemond silently cursing his stupidity and then lowkey taking advantage of it. And he could always play it off as a mistake as well, since nobody but the three dragonriders really knows what went down and well…the other two are incapacitated 🤭 PRINCE REGENT ERA LET’S GO

Rhaenys had the opportunity to flee after leaving Aegon badly injured but she went back anyway. Much like Cole, one can question if it’s brave or suicidal or both. Heroes often possess a mix of these.

Also I have no idea what is going on in most battle scenes so I didn’t realize until the end that Cole was being a strategist. Good for him I guess.

That dead guy falling into ash was cool and scary.

Gwayne takes care of business while Cole and Aemond take a peek at Aegon. I know he’s burned pretty badly and doesn’t die, so I’m not too agonized over the (probably very graphic) reveal next episode.

Aemond taking Dark Sister (edit: prophecy dagger thingy) was kind of a bitch move though.

Wait do you think he’ll learn about the song of ice and fire at Harrenhal? Maybe Alys and other magical influences will reveal it to him, or he’ll decide to stick the blade in the fire on a whim idk.

BUT WOW WHAT AN EPISODE! my asshole was clenched like 60% of the time so you know it was good.

Honestly I really wanted that scene with Aegon to show him saying something along the lines of he loves him in his own twisted way, blah blah, some loyalty or remorse or something. But god forbid we have the greens actually liking each other.

I'm actually looking forward to Otto coming back, tbh, like him or not the man was a powerhouse- Aemond knows what's up (not always)

I may not have been Viserys's biggest fan, however, to see Paddy again was surprisingly welcome.

Alys slayed, I can't wait for her and Aemond to meet, I'm gnawing at the bars of my enclosure for this to happen.

I really wanted to see a fallout of the mobbing with Alicent and Helaena, particularly with Aemond, to see some kind of regret of something in him, but again, god forbid they give Aemond some level of complexity. Only thanks to Ewan's skill as an actor do we get any depth, but we get not one shit from Ryan Condal.

Poor Aegon, honestly.

Even though I'm tired of Daemon at Harrenhall, I really hope that the direction it's gonna take is him getting to the point where he's back to being the ultra loyal uncle-husband, SEND HIM HOME TO HIS WIFE, DAMMIT

Now, the Mysaria and Rhaenyra kiss. I know this could potentially be divisive amongst fans, however.....it was hot. I'm sorry, but....it was hot. I kinda wanted more, this is way better than seeing Alicent and Crispy. I felt the chemistry between them but I rlly thought they would leave it ambiguous. Again, not a fan of this overarching narrative of Rhaenyra being this holy blessed chosen one, and the greens are all one dimensional assholes who hate each other, but- that was hot. Give us them scissoring next episode k thanks.

Despite the general issues, I am curious for next episode.

I have to get this out of the way first, because it was my absolute favourite part and I cannot stop thinking about it; Rhaenyra and Mysaria!

I've had a feeling something like that would happen from their very first encounter, all of their interactions just feel very charged. It was hot AF and I hope we get more of that. Such an interesting dynamic.

Aemond had a little more screen time this episode and, as usual, Ewan slayed. He ran that small council meeting like a fucking drill sergeant and seeing him all hot tempered and mean was...UGH.

I think Aemond's reasoning for dismissing Alicent from the small council was similar to Criston's for not wanting to name her as Regent - he wants to keep her out of harm's way and protect her from the horrible decisions they are going to have to make moving forward.

The way he set Larys up was so fucking good, and I am frothing for the return of Otto. I just know he is going to deliver some absolutely incredible lines next episode.

The exchange between Aegon and Aemond at Aegon's bedside was so well acted by both Tom and Ewan - Aegon's fear and Aemond's unsubtle threat of "this is the version of what happened and you better not tell anyone otherwise" - I do think it's stereotypical sibling rivalry, but the context makes it so much darker.

Aegon and Larys's exchange was amazing too - Larys just laying it out there, basically saying "you are going to look deformed and people will judge you for it" - so powerful, and yet so sad to see Aegon's realisation that he's changed forever.

I have a huge gripe with the writers for what they have done with Sylvi. Yes, her relationship with Aemond was purely transactional, and it has now ended, however, Aemond has been vulnerable with her, spoken to her of things he's not told anyone, so he wouldn't take kindly to the untruths she's spreading around Flea Bottom. I think he would have her killed, not just for treason, but out of fear of what she might tell people about him. However, Michelle Bonnard isn't going to appear again this season, so that is yet another gaping plothole created by the writers.

I'm so bored of Daemon's story arc. Alys is the only part of it holding my interest. It's heavily implied that she had a hand in killing Grover Tully, and I am wondering if she did that to actually help Daemon, or if she has another agenda. Is she going to work with Daemon to help cross Aemond, or does she simply want to take them both down because of their callous attitude towards small folk? I am genuinely excited about her character and storyline.

Cute as it was that Seasmoke claimed Addam, it is yet another glaring oversight from the writers - give us some indication of what's happened to Laenor! Should we just assume he's dead?!

It was cool to see the groundwork being laid for Sheepstealer, though I am still annoyed they gave Nettles' storyline to Rhaena.

Anyway, overall, I really enjoyed this episode. I think this one and episode four have been my favourites so far!

Sometimes her words are so confusing that it even makes Aemond question if reader is right in the head or not if he's too tired too just ignore and accept their behaviour.

And the rage quit they'll do after they lost a game, I can relate to that. Sometimes when the children are all hanging out in reader's room and they just witnessed reader flipping out and screaming into the pillow like a lunatic. Yeah they'll be worried for you while they watch you punch that pillow over and over again.

Aegon: What are you doing?

Reader: I'm letting my emotions out!

Aemond: Why are you angry anyways?

And if reader continuously make self deprecating jokes, then they'll have to endure long hours of lecture from the adults there; especially Alicent. The only one I think will get along with reader about the self deprecating jokes are Aegon honestly.

Okay so I'm finally watching the second season ! Episode 1 !

- I'm having fun and the dialogue is not making me grit my teeth like so many séries these days it's already something

- D'Arcy and their acting...😭😭😭 the grief is hitting me too

- Alicent first scene...this is mostly funny & bizarre I'm waiting to see the rest. Alicent you adorable little hypocritical trapped mouse.

- Aegon pretty funny too in his nonchalance & utter lack of competence.

- Otto funny in his tired attitude. He's not even liking what he almost killed an entire family for in cold blood. He didn't even plan to educate politically his grandkids and now he pays for it. Also he's very sexy.

- Oh Larys the creep. I missed your voice. And your overtly manipulative nature.

- Aemond is just there and proposing vague strategies (does he know shit about it ? Maybe ? he studied philosophy after all)

- Alicent vs Otto most interesting thing happening rn

- Oh both Alicent and Aemond calling each other angry (with a pointed hesitation before saying the word)...the work there isn't too showy but with Aemond also distancing himself from his mom...okay it's there. He's not processing Luke death yet but something is happening with his relationship to his family (which is already messed up). Also they are set up as both mirror reflections (do not have the main seat, upstaged & outranked by either Otto or Aegon) & opposites (wants peace/wants war).

- Aemond talks about Alicent "speaking with two tongues" and there, shot of Criston remembering he had his own tongue in Alicent's nether regions that very morning, triggering his instinct to protect her.

- Criston misogyny moment ! (Wait did he go off to fuck Alicent ?)

- Gosh that look between Helaena & Cheese (? Which one is it ?) before he says "no, she's telling true"...fucking haunting. Why did you do that ? It's all in that look.

- fuck she's still in the room while ou happens...I don't care the panicky finger pointing & her going away with the girl while it's happening is worth the "your mom wants you dead" of the book. It did happen lowkey too quickly but the acting was fucking on point.

- the grotesque of happening upon your mom going at it at this moment...set up and pay off

Final opinion : it was fine really. I'm tired of seeing people who just can't stop screaming into the void about how much they hated the last episode of this show they swore they'd never watch again two years ago because it's not book accurate, the costumes are hideous & the writing gives them headaches. Every week.

👻 GHOST - do they believe in ghosts? what are their "ghostly experiences", if any?

Rosea has a complicated stance on ghosts. On one hand, the concept of them are flat-out stupid. She knows there are daemons that have wraith-like qualities, but actual humans haunting other humans just seems like a waste of effort. Though, she could totally see some people being petty enough to do it.

That said, as someone who grew up running around some of the less traveled halls of the Citadel, that shit is definitely haunted.

😭 CRYING - what makes them cry? do they cry easily?

Rosea does not cry easy. With a father as stoic as Cor, a lot of emotions end up smothered whether he meant her to learn that or not. That said, Ro does cry. Usually, she'll hide away so no one sees her. She's more likely to cry over emotional distress than physical, though if you want to get technical, she cries the most when she's over-tired.

🥞 PANCAKE - what is their comfort breakfast?

In an opinion declared blasphemous by Gladio, Rosea doesn't really like breakfast. She'll avoid it if she can, though not many people will let her get away with it. Her favorite breakfast is breakfast for dinner, in which case pancakes so covered in sugar and fruit that Ignis would declare them a dessert are the only things that will do.

🌱 SEEDLING - what is their most vivid memory from childhood?

Oh, that's a hard one. I'm going to draw the line of 'childhood' at the age nine and under, because the preteens are a time for her. There are still a lot to chose from, but leaning on it being the most vivid, I would say it was when she was about four.

She was sitting on the floor in Cor's office, feeling a bit feverish and woozy. Her dad was typing away at something, the sound of his fingers hitting the keys a sort of drone that filled the whole room. The office door was shut and she was half on the carpet, half on the marble tile, feeling equally over heated and cold. She didn't want to bother her dad. The world was looking way too bright, all the colors hyper contrasted and her mind making up a weird story she can only half-remember involving super heroes being chased by a villain who looked like Gladio's dad's least favorite secretary. The one that glared at Ro if she made too much noise while waiting in the reception for a meeting to get out.

The heroes were plunging down a particularly kaleidoscopic tunnel, the colors pulsating and swirling all around, when she finally threw up into the small metal garbage can beside Cor's desk.

🔪 KNIFE - how do they react to injury / misfortune befalling their loved ones (significant other, family, friends)? do they put themselves at blame?

Given the jobs of the people she is closest too, from her own father to the men she winds up dating, she can't let herself get too upset when they get hurt. Not that she is uncaring, but her being visibly upset about them being harmed would only lead to them hiding things from her to spare her feelings, so she's learned to approach these situations with feigned nonchalance. That said, if she was in any way related to the event that led to the injury (and sometimes even if she wasn't) she will worry about it somehow being her fault.

🔫 PISTOL - do they trust people easily? how easily will they turn their back to someone? have they been backstabbed before? will they betray someone if given an ultimatum?

Rosea is naturally distrustful of others. This is forged both by her personality, and also by the training she received as a child as a means to help her protect herself from people who would use her to harm the Crown. That said, she's inevitably been backstabbed and will be again. Each time is a lesson learned and a new brick in the wall she builds between herself and others.

As far as ultimatums goes, the answer is fairly simple. There is a short list of people she will never compromise, and an even shorter list of things. Even if it's her own life, she won't bend. And if you give her a choice between saving one loved one or another? Well, she'd be lying if she didn't have a ranking system.

That said, if given a choice between protecting the Crown and protecting her father... well, Cor wouldn't approve, but she'd rather have him be angry with her than sacrifice him for anything.

💘 HEART W/ ARROW - what traits do they look for in a relationship? do they believe in love at first sight?

Companionship. Rosea does not believe in love at first sight. She does not even believe in true love. Prior to her dad dating Nyx long enough for her to stop being a brat about it, she did not even think romantic love was a real thing. She thought relationships were strategic, and to be fair, the only relationships she saw growing up were born of political necessity. She doesn't really know how to go about defining a relationship, let alone know what she would be looking for in one, so it's a good thing the she likes proactive people, or she would have never dated at all.

i’m usually very easily entertained but i was left feeling rather empty after the finale, i do hope they fix their pacing issues for s3 and adopt a more show don’t tell attitude bc we’re tired

what annoys me most is the fact that season 1 was super fast paced and season 2 began with b&c and the twins killing e/o then NOTHING. i mean rook’s rest and the build up to it were rather good but you can’t have /nothing/ happen for the most part of three episodes at the very end of your season???

v disappointed at having been shown aemond looking at the pyre he created rather than seeing him actually do it or how/when/why he decided to do it when the whole season for him was about his descent into madness? reminds me of what they did to aegon at the end of s1, throwing shit at the wall and making it stick forcefully like?

speaking of aegon, what was the point of making him this horrible person just to turn back around and make him sympathetic this season….? i love tom to bits and he’s singlehandedly managed to make mr aeg one of my favourite characters but i really can’t wrap my mind around the fact that they made him a literal child r@pist in order to give rhaenyra a better claim only to make him this sad little pookie bear in s2 like….? ok

also the smallfolk? hello? going back to my argument regarding aemond, the only people we’ve seen him harm/kill were family/nobles, people that he had ties to and mostly (not you luke) had something to do with the war, SHOW HIM BEING CRUEL TO INNOCENTS IF YOU WANT HIS DESCENT INTO MADNESS TO HAVE IMPACT GODDAMN i don’t care about these nobles and their little family issues, i’m a left wing bitch, give me the people and their grievances and opinions on what’s happening. we only had dyanna and the madame for half a second + hugh who’s very compelling and i can’t wait to see his story moving forward but like. that’s it? mf they’re gonna kill the dragons, have them be more important BEFORE the last ever second before chaos (hey helaena and jaehaerys) i beg
