there used to be a lil sheep plushie wilbur had as a kid that his mother gave him. he wasnt a very social kid, so he often considered the sheep as his only friend. he would play pretend with it, hug it. he would name it friend.

later as ghostbur came along, that sheep plushie would become his one and only companion. friend would become a real sheep, a sheep that would guide ghostbur through even the toughest times.

i have this headcanon where ghostbur basically embodies wilbur’s early childhood: naivity, optimism, and carefreeness, something wilbur lost early in his life, into his last months of living, and especially as revivebur.

unlike wilbur, ghostbur acts like a child, clueless about the darkest aspects of life, seeing everything in a cheerul perspective. although he’s very forgetful and absentminded, he holds a great amount of empathy for the people he cares about. he cares about anybody, regardless of how awful of a person they might be.

i see ghostbur as the characterized childhood wilbur could’ve had. as a child, him and tommy lost their home. for the entirety of wilbur’s early years, he had to dedicate all of his time to taking care of a baby tommy all by himself. as a result, he never had time to enjoy his childhood, and it was until years later that phil finally took them under his wing. ghostbur is wilbur’s lost childhood.
