I just want to say that I love the idea of Doom and Steven as Both Dads, because they both have a chronic adoption problem, and both handle it and Parent in opposite ways. Exhibit 1:
Jasmine: I’m the one who makes the group noticeable. How do I avoid the ‘wild girl’ description?
Steven: I have the perfect disguise. Steven: *Gets a fancy dress, fake earrings, makeup, helps with putting them all on and styling Jasmine’s hair.*
Doom: *Gives her a hat* Doom: Anyone asks, you’re a boy now.

That’s so evil. I love it.
Doing some minor logistical rewrites in order to work in a proper boss fight vs Ol Dain that doesn't stray too far from the book events. Also wanted Doom to have some proper dialogue with Dain during that scene and I'm just imagining him during the fight trying to remain stoic and unaffected but in reality he looks like this the whole time

Once again, amazing designs go to @transhitman for their Deltora Vivisection project!
I'm still figuring out how tf I make my pictures better quality for tumblr but I guess we'll never know.
I love Doom so much and my people who fuck with Return to Del pages 103+ should know what's gonna come next.

The Video Gaming Major Arcana
The latest patron episode of Into The Aether/@intothecast asked the boys to decide a video game for every Major Arcana card. They ran out of time on it and only got 2/3s thru
my ass was like "Challenge Accepted"
0 - The Fool - Dragon Quest (The Fool is infinite potential and is at the start of a long journey. DQ as a series is a long-running, is a bedrock of the medium, and has done its own takes on everything from pokemon to minecraft, and it either did it first or did it better.)
1 - The Magician - Metroid and Zelda (The Magician is the first person the Fool meets and is a guide for the journey. The Magician is associated strongly with teaching and with tools. Metroid and Zelda both are foundational works and they revolve around gating player process through tools.)
2 - The High Priestess - FEZ (The High Priestess is another guide, but sits before the veil, keeping guard over arcane, hidden knowledge and deciding when to share the secrets of the universe. FEZ is one of the Big Games that hide under layers and layers of mystery.)
3 - The Empress - Stardew Valley (The Empress presides over growth and cultivation of her kingdom, sitting in a field with wheat in hand. SDV is chiefly about taking care of your own domain, the farm and the wider village.)
4 - The Emperor - Civilization (The Emperor is the firm hand of government and can be an important navigator in chaos but also is angered by lack of obedience and losing control. Civ is all about steering every aspect of a nation and protecting it viciously.)
5 - The Hierophant - Pokemon (The Hierophant is a cultural, societal leader that gains power from people who believe similarly but subsequently is very set in their ways. Pokemon is a huge phenomenon that unites people of all ages, but also struggles heavily with innovation and progress.)
6 - The Lovers - Journey (The Lovers aren't necessarily smoochy-smoochy, but represent a Decision, joining hands with another person and striding into the future together. It's Journey. If you know, you know.)
7 - The Chariot - Bethesda's Catalog (The Chariot is a tumultuous, potent card. They hold onto the reins of powerful beasts and drive forward, blazing a new path. But if they lose grip, everything goes to hell. Bethesda's works tend to have this incredible ambition to them, and when they hit, they HIT, but when they miss, it's dramatic.)
8 - Justice - Dark Souls (Justice is the system and its enforcement of its rules, whether they feel fair or arbitrary. I feel DS fits it well-- it relentlessly follows its own rules and is firm in them, which can either draw players in or seem cruel and unwelcoming.)
9 - The Hermit - Immortality (The Hermit is a wise person who gained specialized knowledge but through great personal sacrifice. They find it difficult to share their knowledge because they essentially traded that ability to communicate easily for the wisdom. Immortality has some deeply complicated concepts to communicate, but its methods and the basic mechanics it uses are to some people impossible to understand.)
10 - (Wheel of) Fortune - Spelunky (Fortune is the card of pure luck and the whims of fate and how you survive being caught in its spokes. Spelunky is a pure Rogue-like as opposed to a Rogue-lite and there is no knowing what the procgen will give you.)
11 - Strength - Undertale (Strength is specifically about emotional control and fortitude. It's not about slaying the lion, but holding it, keeping it from lashing out. Undertale is a game that asks the player to endure emotional struggles both against the mechanics and against their own inclinations.)
12 - The Hanged Man - Signalis (OH BOY ITS MY FAVE CARD. The thing about the Hanged Man is that it's a test, a gamble, a deal. The Hanged Man is not hung from the neck, this is not an execution, they are inverted. They choose to be inverted in the hopes of gaining some Insight into the universe, but in doing so risk madness or obsession or doom. Signalis is both a game about a protagonist going through this and also a game that will put the player through this if they aren't careful.)
13 - The Nameless Arcana - Braid (I'm not even personally a fan of Braid, but I believe it is one of the handful of Original Indie Games. The very existence and popularity of Braid and its contemporaries showed that games outside the big studios could hit big. Braid (or Cave Story for the PC crowd) altered the landscape.
14 - Temperance - Yakuza (Temperance is the melding of disparate elements that should not go together into something grand and new, and maintaining that balance. Yakuza manages to be genuine and profound not in spite of its strange mixture of tones and mechanics but because of them.)
15 - The Devil - Genshin Impact (I don't feel the need to elaborate on this one.)
16 - The Tower - Shenmue (The Tower is total upheaval and where it all comes crashing down, where ambition crumbles and brings an institution down with it. Shenmue is not solely to blame for the failure of the Dreamcast and Sega's exit from the console arena, but it contributed to it and is emblematic of that seachange.)
17 - The Star - Mass Effect (The Star is a beacon in the darkness, a distant light that indicates not so much a goal, but that the journey will continue. Mass Effect is a landmark title that maybe didn't execute on half the things it tried, strangled by its own scope, but it still showed what games could do, broadening the possibility space. It is hope for greater experiences and art.)
18 - The Moon - Metal Gear (The Moon illuminates the path through the darkness, but creates illusions in the reflections, demanding the querent move forward with care or they will go astray, go mad. Is Metal Gear really deep? Is it the closest triple-A games get to arthouse? Does it have meaning? Or is it a mess? Is it too Problematique to justify it's big ideas? Is it all just really, really stupid? Or is it genius?)
19 - The Sun - Tetris Effect (The Sun comes at the end of a long, arduous journey. It is the sigh of relief, the tears of release, the light to finally see how far you've come. Tetris Effect is the latest iteration of one of the oldest formulas ever, and it's brilliant and celebratory and invites everyone to take part in its joy.)
20 - Judgement - Pathologic (Judgement is all-seeing and all-knowing, the final tally and the reckoning. So is Pathologic. Few experiences demand so much from the player, and few games are so brutally honest in answering the player's decisions. In Pathologic, you will get what you deserve.)
21 - The World - The Outer Wilds (The beginning is the end is the beginning. Completion and totality and holistic understanding of Everything. It's gotta be Outer Wilds.)

If there ever is a Season 3 for Star Trek: Prodigy, these would be my wishes for it:
More character focused or what is considered "filler" episodes (a day in the life of Murf which can even consist of some S1 and 2 scenes, but from his POV, Jankom exploration, further exploration into Dal's backstory, almost like Preludes part 2. Gwyn somewhat mirroring Janeway's struggles in the DQ due to the state of Starfleet and having to trust herself and her own decisions)
No 'the galaxy will explode/impending doom' narratives. I'm fine with where S2 ended as it's not a 'the galaxy will tear itself apart' plotline. I understand it needs to have higher stakes, but this is why I think Season 1 is perfect: the stakes until the finale were 'Will Janeway catch the kids?' and you even kind of wanted her to, which made it fun. Galaxy going boom is a bit generic and honestly after Disco and Picard, it's safe to say the fatigue is real
Timetravel done and dusted. We can put it on a shelf where it can stay for a very long time
J/C needs a proper adult conversation on where they're at. We had great emotional character introspection before their reunion, but after it, they just kind of reminisced about old times. They never really went anywhere deeper than that (or at least we didn't get to hear it) because there was always something about to go boom (see points one and two).
Chakotay still struggling with his lost time on Ysida and trying to heal. Generally more J/C interactions with the kids such as Chakotay and Dal's conversation. A talk between Janeway and Gwyn would be great (see point one).
That's all I can think about now.

The Tale of a Lonely King
Tumblr media
Or, in which a non-human desperately tries to reconnect with his humanity and ends up dooming himself and his family
Warning: Unhinged unorganized word vomit about La Manchaland's DQ. Aftereffects of completing Canto 7 include copious amounts of brainrot. Also spoilers of course
Family and Love
The two main things about him before Canto 7 and even before he found Sancho were his extreme loneliness and feelings of emptiness. Just… the way that after living in isolation for so many years, he became obsessed with the idea of family and made a big family.
To him, family = happiness, it would be the cure to his misery, to have people around him forever. And it was something that he projected onto his Kindreds, nagging Sancho about making her own Kindreds, and joking about Sancho and Dulcinea being sisters despite acknowledging that they never interacted that much.
It was also probably one of the things that made him favour Sancho. In addition to her going against his view of human nature – hurting others to help themselves, something that he was fated do as a Bloodfiend –, he could see himself in her dying self: someone with no will to live and suffering from loneliness, and so he promised to give her the thing they both wanted, a family that would forever be by their side.
The problem was that despite his love being so honest, so genuine, he didn’t seem to truly understand how to go about making a family and paid dearly for that obliviousness. Due to the nature of Bloodfiends imprinting an instinctual hierarchy on his Children, they couldn’t criticize his ideas or emphasize their concerns on a deeper level. And in turn, while he gave them a home, he never provided them with actual parental guidance beyond his ideas and the things that worked for him, which became a huge problem later on after the creation of La Manchaland. As much as he wanted a happy family, there were still boundaries between them, closer to a king or religious figure and his followers, with only Sancho being capable of interacting with him as an equal (and even she had her moments where her loyalty would cloud her personal wishes). A turbo, blood-coded version of a “I know best” parent and children who can’t say no.
And it works as a foil to the Sinners’ own found family dynamic, something that started like a violent mess of murderhobo coworkers, but as time went on, they forged genuine bonds through their experiences. And even before they became close, they were able to speak to each other on the same level (even if some might’ve not seen the others as equals coughOutiscough).
Meaning and the Will to Live
But in the end, while making his family fixed his immediate loneliness, it didn’t fix the emptiness he felt.
That’s when Bari showed up and challenged his worldview. As she put it, the misery he felt wasn’t something that could be cured by his confined life with his family. Because he still had no actual reason to live or anything to look forward to, and his beloved family alone wasn’t enough to make up for it.
And it seems he himself had grown aware of it as time went on, as he accepted Bari’s proposition despite 1) having no interest in getting involved in the Bloodfiend War, and 2) Bari declaring to his face that she was going to kill him if he kept refusing to get involved. He didn’t tell his Children to attack her, or even let Sancho tag team, he chose to follow the ‘odd laws’ she spoke about. A part of him was willing to lend an ear to her words and hope for something to come out of it.
Lo and behold, after their cycles of duels, Bari yapping about Fixers and hooking him with the 1001 Nights strat, he became interested in Fixers and hyperfixated on their heroic tales, wishing to experience them himself. And through these adventures, he found something that gave him fulfilment unlike the fleeting hobbies he had that lasted less than a week. After a lifetime of isolation, he came to love the outside world and actually enjoy being a part of it. Even if it was silly or juvenile, the thought of being a righteous Fixer, a hero to humans, not just a predator, gave colour to his life. Such that he willingly joined the war and on the side of humanity no less, fighting against the only other people who could understand his loneliness and void of heart, and started dreaming about coexistence between the two species. Bari kept her promise, she gave him a dream and helped him find the joy in living. I'm not normal about these two
He no longer was bound to his own illness of bloodlust and the thirst for the emotions in the human blood, and he wanted to share this with his family. So that they too could live in the outside world and not just in isolation, so that they could live without having to kill others.
It was why he was so enamored with amusement parks, they were a combination of all those dreams he had; a place where “children go in holding their parents’ hands” (again with the strong emphasis on family), everyone is happy, not worried about fighting.
“Was that family ever happy?”
Unfortunately, much like our DonQui pre-Canto 7, he failed to account for nuance. His Children always loved him, so they will understand ™. Hemobars and dreams work for him, so while it may suck for a while, they will work for his Children too. Bari’s a righteous Fixer, so all Fixers must be the same.
He assumed that just because he (and Sancho) could live off hemobars and remain satiated, so could the rest of his Children. He imposed his dream on them and while they initially went along with it out of love, and even did enjoy it to some extent, they did not truly understand what he meant by having a dream and with no proper guidance, they found no way to change. In their eyes, drinking blood really was the only way for them to feel joy, and by forbidding it, he ‘outlawed happiness from his family’.
By the time La Manchaland blew up, it was already far too late. All he had left was isolation and his family once again. And with Sanson staking him with the Golden Bough, even that innate bloodlust, the sickness he hated so much, resurfaced.
For 200 years, he could only live with his failure and the fact that his family suffered all because he dared to dream. So getting staked by them was his way of atoning, letting them feast on whoever was unlucky enough to wander into La Manchaland was his way of providing for them. He neglected his parental responsibilities for his dream for too long, and now he finally decided to prioritize them and listen. His body no longer belonged to him alone.
When he saw Sancho again, all he felt was disappointment and resignation, the worst confirmation bias. If they really couldn’t change, all he could do was offer her again what he did in the beginning: their family. They’d suffer and endure together like they always had, for that was their nature.
So he returned to where he started, an isolated, apathetic being with no conviction or full commitment to his decisions, but instead of hopping from hobby to hobby, he was torn between wanting to feed his Children and protecting humans. Just letting things pass like with the Bloodfiend War.
Tumblr media
And just... just the way that he takes accountability for everything.
Despite not being able to forgive them, their physical betrayal and the harm they brought him, he never blames his Children, and treats everything as his own sin.
In Dulcinea!Rodya's uptie story we see that she and Sancho considered Bari a bad influence, and even in the main world you could argue that Bari's stories and extremely high standards for the moral character of Fixers gave DQ a very rose-coloured view of the world... But DQ himself never thinks that way, despite decrying stories as 'fabrications'.... He never once blames her and only thinks fondly of her.
I am not ready for Manager of La Manchaland's uptie story, it will destroy me.
I'm also not ready for whatever the fuck P Corp will do to his corpse

In any of the stories where bella ends up with the volturi, (a glass slipper, painting red madonnas, a girls best friend love and lobsters, blue moon, for the love of a woman etc) will this end badly for the volturi? I just keep reading your and vinelles stuff and bella can seemingly go of the deep end so very easily, over so very little. Or not little, but from the outside, and whitout bella explaining herself, well i just cant imagine that it would be a sustainable situation. Sooner or later bella will do something incredibly bella and then what?
X anon
Oh lord, I've poisoned you people.
The short answer is no, Breaking Dawn puts Bella in a very particularly unstable position, one where she has genuine enemies, and she's invested all of her happiness in this moment in time where if any little thing goes wrong that's everything baby.
The Bellas you list out in the above are in a little different situations: Painting Red Madonnas is a little older and didn't place all her self worth in Edward/vampirism, A Glass Slipper has been dumped by Edward and is at her lowest low, A Girl's Best Friend and Lobsters is not even really Bella anymore and is just an alien that wants to eat DQ Blizzards, Blue Moon Bella had to let Edward go and learn to compromise with the future she wanted, For the Love of a Woman Edward has dumped her and she has to deal with the aftermath.
Bella's not doomed by nature, but the canon story is such that it puts her in a place where, by the end, the door to exit becomes smaller and smaller and with larger and larger consequences for not wanting to let go.
In terms of the Volturi, in those situations, the worst that happens is uh Bella goes out for cigarettes and doesn't come back. Aro might be a mess, depending on if this is one of the world where she cured Marcus's depression (Didyme 2.0 everybody, "I never thought I'd have to do this again" - Aro) but the Volturi would be fine.
Again, Breaking Dawn introduces some very specific very interesting circumstances that not only pits Bella against them but gets her in contact with those that could in theory raise an army/provide numbers Bella would need.

And sometimes Doom, home from one of his many journeys and silently watching the twins at play, would remember two other boys running through the palace gardens, long ago. And he would smile.
😭😭❤️❤️
This little paragraph makes me emotional, because Doom is finally at peace, after everything he has been through (and this man has been through a lot) from the beginning of the very DQ first book. Deltora is finally safe, after everything he (and many others) sacrificed and lost. He can now live his life going off on his own adventures, and after each adventure come back home to his daughter and son-in-law and three beautiful grandchildren, named in honour of him, his dear wife and his childhood best friend. He gets to watch his grandchildren play and remember fondly the days of him and Endon playing together as children at the palace. He gets to watch them grow up in a peaceful Deltora, living in the future they all fought for. No doubt he wishes Anna and Endon could have lived to see it all too, but is at peace knowing that what they all hoped and sacrified for came to be at last.
And he's happy.

are we looking forward to the DQ wide-eyed, wet stare of penance. when he opens his wrinkled and eldritch mouth to say "compete" in the post game interviews. when his bostonian undertones curl his words into spells of disappointment and doom ? <3 and also the professor hockey video!!

Royal Rumble Marathon: 1998
The Rumble has entered 1998.
Warning, spoilers for past Rumbles.
We are now officially in the Attitude Era so expect shenanigans. I haven’t watched the Attitude Era in over a decade but I’m expecting to feel a lot of retrospective cringe.
The undercard:
We see a recap of the previous two months of Goldust’s activities. This is the era where Goldust dumped Marlena and is now accompanied by Luna Vachon. Dustin has ditched his traditional gold attire and now wears a variety of outfits. Tonight’s special is a lime green/purple-striped singlet tights, purple gloves, green and purple-striped face paint with blue hair.  Dustin is also wearing a leopard-print thong over his tights. Luna’s attire is a black/red bikini combo with a clear plastic skirt/tutu. She’s also wearing flesh-colored tights. Luna has half her face covered with the traditional Goldust colors. The other half of Luna’s face has her tattoos.
Goldust (with Luna) vs Vader. Match was fine. The ending comes when Vader (with Luna on his back) delivers a top-rope Vader bomb to Goldust. Dustin is always fun and Luna continues to be a badass. This era of Dustin was crazy but fun. You never knew what Goldust was going to wear.
Steve Austin arrives, threatens to whoop Michael Coles’ ass. The Godwinns are in search of Austin.
We have a six-man lucha libre match: Battalion, Tarantula, El Torito vs Max Mini, Mosaic, and Nova. Sunny is the special guest referee. Fun match.
Soon after this, Sunny’s life begins to spiral, leading to her dismissal from the WWF and a lifetime of self-destruction. It’s a shame as Sunny was a talented performer. Of course, the true tragedy is the man she killed due to her drunk driving.
The Nation of Domination is now in search of Steve Austin. Farooq tells Mark Henry that he has to “prove himself”.
Mike Tyson hangs out with Shane and Vince. I don’t care about Mike Tyson. I don’t care about boxing. Tyson’s rape conviction, and his abusive tendencies, do not make me excited to see him on my wrestling programs. Of course, sitting next to Vince makes Tyson look like an altar boy by comparison.
Recap of the Ken Shamrock-Nation of Domination feud. The Rock is still with the Nation at this point, Mark Henry has newly joined.
Rock promo where he advises Bill Clinton to “not lay down with dogs” (referencing Paula Jones, and yes, the Rock names her specifically) and to “cover his willy”. Remember those cringe moments I said we’d encounter in the Attitude Era. Calling the woman suing a man for sexual harassment, even a President, a “dog” is one.
Ken Shamrock vs the Rock for the Intercontinental Championship.  The Rock wins via DQ. Shamrock attacks referee Mike Chioda in the aftermath. Fine match.
The Boricuas are now searching for Steve Austin but find the D.O.A. instead. This is the era of multiple factions – mostly centering on race – were running wild in the WWE. Los Boricuas, the Nation of Domination, The Truth Commission, and D.O.A. (Disciples of Apocalypse) were the main factions.
The New Age Outlaws vs the Legion of Doom for the Tag Team titles. The Legion wins via DQ. Back-to-back DQ victories is a questionable call on a pay per view.
The Rumble entrants, in order of appearance:
Cactus Jack
Chainsaw Charlie (Terry Funk)
Tom Brandi
The Rock
Mosh of the Headbangers
Phineas Godwinn
8-Ball (Don Harris)
Blackjack Bradshaw (JBL)
Owen Hart (Jeff Jarrett and Jim Cornette ambush Owen on his way to the ring)
Steve Blackman
D’Lo Brown
Kurrgan
Marc Mero (accompanied by Sable)
Ken Shamrock
Thrasher of the Headbangers
Mankind
Goldust (in silver singlet tights with red knee-high fishnets and a black bikini on the outside of the tights, Luna has also changed her outfit to a silver one)
Jeff Jarrett (accompanied by Jim Cornette)
Honky Tonk Man (Hunter and Chyna stroll out to ringside during his entrance and cause Owen to be eliminated)
Ahmed Johnson
Mark Henry
Skull
Kama Mustafa
Steve Austin
Henry Godwinn
Savio Vega (accompanied by the Boricuas)
Farooq
Dude Love
Chainz (Brian Lee)
Vader
Steve Austin wins again, making him the 3rd multiple time winner – Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels are the others.
Rumble Highlights: Cactus-Charlie brawl (minus the unprotected chairshots), Rock-Austin outside the ring brawl and in-ring finale
Rumble Feuds: Cactus vs Charlie, Rock vs Shamrock, Owen vs Jarrett, Owen vs Hunter
More cringe moments: the unprotected, non-gimmicked chairshots Funk and Cactus gave each other. Please, no! Did the Harris brothers have their Nazi tattoos yet? (I can’t see clearly but if so, that is worse than cringe).
First-time Rumblers:  Tom Brandi, Mosh, Steve Blackman, Kurrgan, Ken Shamrock, Thrasher, Mark Henry, Chainz
Surprise Entrants: Honky Tonk Man, 3 Faces of Foley
Quickest Elimination: Tom Brandi
Most Eliminations: Steve Austin
Unite to Eliminate the Big Man spot: Kurrgan
The final match of the ppv isn’t the Rumble (which I dislike). The final match is Shawn Michaels vs the Undertaker for the World championship in a casket match.
Shawn and Taker’s previous match was the first Hell In A Cell match. A casket match seems to be a step down in intensity.
Shawn is accompanied by Hunter and Chyna.  The New Age Outlaws and the Boricuas attack the Undertaker but are run off by Kane. Kane then attacks the Undertaker and throws him into the casket. Kane and Paul Bearer lock the casket and set it on fire.
Shawn wins but severely injures his back when he bumps on the casket during the match. This would lead to Shawn’s post-Wrestlemania match.
Rating: 6 out of 10. Solid undercard, fun Rumble, good main event
Wrestlers and others who have passed on: Howard Finkel, Vader, Luna Vachon, Tarantula (Espectrito II), Torito (Espectrito), the Legion of Doom, Terry Funk, Chyna, Paul Bearer
Total number of deceased individuals: 11 (down 3 from the previous Rumble)

SO I began re-reading Deltora Quest but to my sister, so I have someone to share all this with and I'm realising a), how good these books are again and b), how stupid i was as a kid???
In the first book (!!SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT!!) it says that Jasmine dropped down as lightly as a butterfly, and my brain took that as she was literally a butterfly? so for the entirety of the first series I envisioned her as a human-sized butterfly, and it wasn't until my sister said she thought Barda was an old man that I realised.
Can you imagine a human-sized butterfly just kicking ass?
In my Kid Brain it made sense, cause that's how she could talk to animals and trees, but it makes every other book so much funnier.
Just thought I'd share tee hee

the only think about xenoblade 2 and 3 is that its just all the worst abominable anime aesthetics i hate and dont want to see. the first real jrpg to take on the 'modern' (where and how i'd define this is difficult) sense of anime aesthetics and it spells doom for the the mid jrpg. it either has to be tried and true shit (DQ) or out of the park (??? octopath i guess but it isn't 3d). like i'm just trying to explain how i doubt there will ever be a game like valkyria chronicles again. yes old jrpgs are mid and have bad aesthetics but it was just a lot less cringe and bad to copy the most popular actors back then

Man, I can’t wait until I get the first grotto map. It’ll be a while before I’ll get anything good, ofc, but I live for completing grottoes.
Don’t hurt either that the grotto bosses are pieces of Zenus that are doomed to die over and over into eternity. Gods in DQ can’t truly die, apparently, but they can still be subjected to hell!
