This is a quote from early in the long rest scene you get after discovering that Stelmane has been murdered.

The Emperor is afraid because it knows that if the Absolute breaks free of the stones’ control, it will be the end of everything, everywhere, as everyone knows it.

This isn’t some kind of recent revelation, there’s no reason to believe Emps didn’t know this from the start.

So why didn’t it take the protection of the prism and that nautiloid Gortash put it in command of and get the fuck out of dodge? Why didn’t it just hop planes until it was as far from Toril as possible and start a new life? The Absolute would usher in the Grand Design, sure, but that’s not a process that would happen quickly. At least, not quickly enough to reach a rogue illithid who had parked itself at the opposite end of the universe before said illithid died of old age.

Hell, why not try eating Orpheus too? The Emperor will say it’s too risky, if Tav asks it about doing so in act 2, but that becomes a gamble it’s willing to take by the end of act 3.

So why doesn’t the Emperor just give up its life in Baldur’s Gate, retire to the farthest plane it can find, and find out if making Orpheus its lunch will confer the Power to itself. What are the downsides? If it doesn’t work then all Emps has to do is stay outside the Absolute’s zone of influence until something else eventually kills him. Not ideal, but pretty doable considering it would have a spelljamming nautiloid at its disposal.

But guess what? The Emperor doesn’t do that. It says “this elder brain unleashed will be the end of everything” and it scrapes together a plan to kill the Absolute while it’s still able to be killed.

The Emperor had the means and ability to nope the hell out, and instead it put itself at the mercy of strangers with nothing but the hope that they would help it stop this apocalyptic threat. It spends the events of the game in a cage of its own making, with its life, its freedom, and the fate of Toril and ultimately every other world lying in the player’s hands.

And at the end, it doesn’t want control of the Absolute. You have to pass a persuasion check to get it to do anything but command the Brain to die. It wants that threat dead.

Then people want to try and argue that the Emperor is evil and only wants to manipulate Tav into taking over the world.

Yeah okay buddy. Sure. Guess we’re playing different games.

Vox can understand Velvette just fine. They don't necessarily need to get along all the time, but they have a mutually beneficial contract that guarantees her support in the most efficient way possible, just how they both like it, short and strict and to the point. Vox does not understand Valentino. It drives him unimaginably, disgustingly insane. He knows how to handle him, make no mistake. Valentino is a never-ending powerhouse that wrangles out content from his employees like there's no tomorrow. He's proven himself to be Vox's most lucrative investment yet. He is resourceful, well-connected and most importantly predictable enough to rein in. Because he listens to you, because he needs you.

He is also, undeniably, out of his goddamn mind. Yet you've already invested too much in the corporate empire you've built together and there is no point turning back now that you have him so close to your side. It's OK however! He couldn't possibly be stupid enough to throw away the best partnership deal he's ever had just for the sake of something petty cause -oh, wait - he genuinely might just be that stupid and you never would've guessed because he's so cocksure of his bullshit that 80% of the time it ends up working in his favor anyway.

Fuck his life indeed. The kicker for this of course is that Valentino, genuinely does believe he has struck gold with Vox. Valentino is a clingy, possessive, immature, perverted, sadistic, egotistical man-child with severe rage issues and zero impulse control. No he is not aware of this at all. No he does not know why nobody is able to tolerate him and why every single person he gets close to hates his guts with every inch of their burning rotting souls. All he knows is that hell has now given him a flat faced prince in shining liquid crystal armour, riding on a cash filled horse with promises of power and luxury, who's practically handing him success on a silver platter. Doesn't mean that Val trusts him, doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy seeing him lose his shit. But at the end of the day vox has his back, and as long as Val keeps calling for him, he'll eventually turn up and make everything better. Cause hey if Vox hasn't left him yet for this long he must be doing something right. Right?

In an ideal world I think it would be so great and fun if all of the strawhats developed all 3 forms of Haki but in actuality I think only 3 of them would develop conqueror’s specifically and those 3 are Luffy, Zoro, and Nami.

There’s just something about the way that it operates & the conditions that have to be met (dominating the will of others + qualities of a king) that I think most apply to those 3 specifically. Luffy and Zoro we’ve already seen in canon, and I think that their “domination” is represented in their dreams because they’re the only two straw hats whose dream is specifically a superlative: to be the best in their field. While Nami’s dream is not like that, the way she operates in the ship and the way she fights and the way she draws strength is through domination in the way that the other straw hats don’t. In order to keep the crew together she has to bend everyone to her will and she does regularly, even soundly defeating the two conqueror’s Haki users. Nobody else expresses domination as a trait like that except her. There’s a throwaway joke where Jinbe thinks she’s using conqueror’s when scolding Luffy and tbh I don’t think it’s a joke I fully buy into it.

With regards to qualities of a king: I take that to mean leadership qualities as expressed through Nami. Luffy and Zoro both are considered to be de facto leaders of the group (Captain and right hand/unofficial vice captain) but Nami is the behind the scenes day to day leader and I think this is a big point in her favor of gaining qualities like this. The superlatives argument works well here too because what Nami wants, although not necessarily the “best”, is to have had knowledge of absolutely everything the world has to offer: with regards to scale, her dream might be the largest because she intends to cover and know everything and I do think that has a kingly quality to it.

Anyway I think it would be very funny and very in character for Nami if she develops conquerors Haki and is excellent at using it but cannot use or is very weak in the other two.

One thing that I find myself appreciating about solavellan is how Solas doesn’t coddle Lavellan at all. He offers help and guidance, of course, but he doesn’t treat her like a dumb baby who is incapable of higher thinking or can’t understand consequences.

If Lavellan does fucks up it’s not met with a patronizing, infantilizing, chauvinistic attitude. He’s very much like, “hey wtf you’re smarter than this get it together”.

I love solavellan so much because it’s a dynamic that is naturally sprinkled with power imbalances (mortal x immortal, head of a world power x elven apostate, etc.) yet they truly treat each other as equals.

Their love is built on a foundation of deep respect for one another and that means so much to me.
