Update: I wore flannel for the first time this year yesterday, so sweater weather is approaching, and I have both body pieces and one arm done!
This sweater, like many cabled sweaters, is knit flat and sown after because cables are a little harder in the round.
The sweater was written for fairly standard men's sizes and I am not man shaped, so I've made fairly significant modifications to it to make it fit me the way I want. (if anyone is interested in the full details of my modifications, let me know and I can write them up when the sweater is done.)
I'm knitting larger than the largest body size, decreasing to slimmer shoulders than that size, and that fits well so far.
The real test of my math was the modifications I've done to the sleeves. I increased from the smallest written size at the wrist to the largest at the shoulders, and then decreased the shoulder cap faster than written so that it would be a shorter shoulder cap. This was complicated by the fact that I also removed several inches from the sleeve length. I've just matched up the finished shoulder cap to the body pieces, and I think they're going to come together without too much difficulty! I'm very pleased, I was nervous about this part fitting together.
Side note: I fucking love the tubular cast on. I never want to do any other cast on for ribbing for garments ever, ever again.
I am determined to get this sweater done by the time sweater weather is upon us...this is the back panel, front's already done. Making progress!!

Dream Cast Ons
aka if I had infinite time, money, and energy~~
These are probably my least likely to be cast on, but they seem fun and interesting and a brain puzzler (I'm expert solvem probler and love fucking with my brain more than necessary).
I think I'm not going to dive into the whole "dream yarn for each project" aspect, because that might get sad fast... lol
Lil Guys
Look, I'll be the first to admit there's really no purpose to these guys other than. Joy. (But clearly joy's not in the budget right now.)
Raccoon by Claire Garland I feel like this guy would be great motivation for working on my abysmal tension issues. Plus he's cute.
Yahahaha! by Seth Mungons Partly to have my partner's nemeses on hand, partly inspiration to learn/work on embroidery. 🤷
Accessories
Hexisocks by Natalia Moreva I cannot say whether this would be difficult or not, but the construction seems intriguing. (But also, who knows if it would be comfortable enough beyond its gorgeous design...)
Scarf Dryad by Svetlana Gordon I'm not huge on neck accessories, but I do love the look of this pattern and feel like it would be an interesting challenge. Finding yarn that would suit it, on the otherhand...
Things for the Wardrobe
Librarian Vest by Tomomi Yoshimoto I love this. I dream of this being in my wardrobe. I have no idea if I'm "a vest person." (I think that's partly why it's on my "unrealistic queue list... One day I'll fix my other vest and see if I like wearing it more....)
DNA Pullover by Andrea Cull I recognize that cables aren't difficult, that this piece altogether is totally within reach, and as much as I love producing something as large as a sweater, it's hard to rationalize buying a sweater's amount of yarn, haha.
X-files I Want to Believe by KT Simmons-Uvin The ultimate knitting flex. (I mean either this or the "This is Fine" sweater. I know it's doable, but who knows when I'll have the energy/money to do it... For now I'll just look wisftully on.
Howl Cardigan (self-drafted) (AKA Howl's Jacket from Howl's Moving Castle.) This has been on my want to knit for literal years. I wanted to try to make it with entrelac, I feel like that would create a really interesting texture that might be more reminiscent of the book's repaired cardigan version.

The Teddy Bear Man
On September 12, 1992, hunters at a point called Falkenuten located in Norway's Hardangervidda national park discovered a skeleton at around 1,200 meters above sea level. The police arrived and began their investigation. The skeleton belonged to a very slim person aged 22-27. No cause of death could be adequately determined based on the remains, but the police believed the decedent to be an inexperienced hiker who got lost and strayed from the beaten path before freezing to death. The police reached this conclusion due to their belongings not belonging to an experienced hiker and based on the weather during the past 2 years, which were noted to be bad. The police ruled that the decedent had died in the summer of 1991 but possibly as early the summer of 1992 and as late as 1990. The remains were examined and the anthropologist who examined the body was unable to determine the decedent's gender as their hipbones corresponded to that of a woman while the skull was more similar to a male. The professor made a recreation of the decedent's face, which was shown in Norwegian newspapers, making it the first time in Norway such an action was taken. The professor found nothing indicating a homicide or suicide, and it was determined that they likely froze to death. Examinations of their teeth showed that he had amalgam fillings, with laboratory results showing they were older fillings possibly made in Sweden.
The decedent's belongings consisted of a 1,000 Norwegian Krone banknote which was first circulated in 1991, multiple plastic bags containing rye bread, baking powder, small wine bottles and water bottles as well as other provisions all of which originated from Germany with the bags having German writing on them, a road map of Southern Norway which had been purchased at Storgata in Norway's capital Oslo, the ground near the decedent's discovery was found to be trampled leading police to believe the map may have been used to set up a makeshift tent. The last item of note was a makeshift teddy bear 35 cm tall which was very aged but frequently repaired. The teddy bear is what led to the decedent being named "Teddybjørn-mannen"
The decedent was wearing Levis Jeans, a brown leather jacket, a pullover made by German brand S. Oliver, hiking boots and a poncho which had been purchased in either Hamburg or Munich, Germany. The police also believed that like many other foreigners in the area they may have brought a backpack with them but no such item was ever found and was likely scavenged by local wildlife as their clothing and remains had at some point prior been chewed on by animals. These findings only strengthen the police's belief that they were an inexperienced hikeror foreign national as the mutable water bottles the decedent packed with them added unnecessary weight despite the water in the national park being safe for human consumption. The police found a handful of eyewitnesses who reported seeing a German man walking in the opposite direction or riding a bike, but their sightings have never been substantiated.
The decedent's case was reopened in 2022 and their DNA was retested with modern equipment, which ascertained the decedent's gender as male. Norwegian police also sent the man's information to Germany's Bundeskriminalamt and Interpol, but no matches were obtained.
After the TV show Åsted Norge aired a special about the case in the Spring of 2022, a German national came forward recalling having seen an episode of the German talk show Fliege in 1998 where a female guest talked about how her son went missing vacationing in Norway. Despite this, the TV station couldn't find any records and the host Jürgen Fliege couldn't recall such an episode. No one in Germany has come forward to report missing relatives in Norway who could match the decedent.

DNA Pullover
It's done!!
I love how it came out - I made SO many modifications to the fit. The sweater was written for a boxy, typically-male silhouette, and I am Not That. I shortened the arms and regraded their shaping, widened the body, and moved the shoulders in by a few inches to fit my frame.
The shoulders fit bang-on on top of my actual shoulder, which is so exciting, and the sleeve cap fit perfectly into the shoulder, too. I put a lifeline in when I knit the first shoulder cap to make sure I could rip it back out if it didn't fit, but I didn't need to!
Overall, absolutely happy with this sweater. It's super comfy, and the yarn (High Desert Worsted from KnitPicks) is suuuuper soft and cozy.

it's got colder recently and i found myself looking at the dna pullover pattern again when i should be working...
i would need to alter the pattern so significantly it's basically a new pattern lol
change the neck shaping and do a v-neck
over all downsize: neck (?), shoulders & circumference, sleeves & armholes
replace cable patterns for downsizing purposes: replace simple 8-stitch cables with 6-stitch cables, 20-st basket weave with 16-st five-rib braid
replace the DNA cables with a more accurate one
small changes such as a different CO method
#life#knitting#i’ve been making calculations and thinking about alterations for this pattern for almost a year now tbh

I think peak television are the one of bests brand if not the best in terms of their creative vision. they’re like the only brand I’ve seen do the nostalgia ting correctly, every garm they drop can be linked to a certain time/memory/movement from the late 00s early 010s in London, the clothes they make are extremely nostalgic but at the same time fresh and modern.
the skep dog ears hat specifically is their best piece so far and they haven’t missed yet, since their conception in mid 2021 they have been releasing quality prints and accessories, the Genesis tee, the nerd hat, the Stevie tee, the skeenie, bro the pullover V zip hoodie rollout blew my mind. but like I said, the skep dog ears is my personal favourite of mine, it has London on lock, there’s so much nuance and cultural intricacies in that one hat, it’s a really significant piece of clothing to me, they took a cornerstone of skepta’s iconic look in his younger days and imprinted their brand’s dna on it, they payed homage in the best way possible, I didn’t grab the hat when I dropped (broke student tax) icl but It’s on my list.
everyone in peak should take a bow, they‘be cultivated an amazing brand, they’re black creativity at its peak.
