Guesses on the "bloooop" noise coming from my baseboards?

File this one under "random house noises", but it's not creaks and groans. We have baseboards with forced hot water for heat. Every now and then lately, usually in the middle of the night though I have heard it mid-day, we'll hear what's best described as this sort of echo-y "blooop" that sounds like it came from deep down in the pipes somewhere. At first I thought maybe the town was doing some work on the pipes somewhere nearby, you know how sometimes they'll mess with things and then you end up with brown water for a little while? Maybe they're introducing air, who knows. But, it's happened at least 4 or 5 times over several days, so that seems less likely.

I'm saying bloop because that's the best way I can think to describe it, but even that's not entirely accurate, it doesn't conjure up that "bubble floating up to the top" feeling, it's got more of a vibrating echo sort of thing like something caused the pipes to rattle which then propagated through the house. Somewhere in between.

That ring any bells for anybody? Anybody got ideas for what causes such things? We've got a gas furnace and my wife's nervous wondering if it's at all related to gas, rather than water, and the sign of anything that could be dangerous. We've also got a standard french drain / sump pump situation in the basement but I don't see any correlation there, it hasn't been raining enough to work the pump overtime or anything.

My googling's failing because anything related to noise and baseboards is always about the clicking, and google is not so good with onomopoetic words like "bloop". I feel like we had a similar problem years ago that just sort of went away, so I'm thinking maybe something seasonal? But I don't know what.

I am the self proclaimed number one fan of Junior Space-Claw. I timed myself recently, I can draw a full body sketch of him (with clothing) in under forty five seconds. I made neon pink sun glasses (out of paper) that I keep in my pocket for whenever I want to quote him (never got to use them yet :(() and whenever I look at his Tumblr tag, it literally just feels like I’ve blacked out and reblogged everything.

My favorite song currently changes every seventeen seconds, so the song currently suck in my head is Peanuts! From Nightmare Time. Definitely not my favorite right now, but it’s good. I literally don’t listen to music that’s not musical theater, don’t quiz me on music trivia.

I technically write fanfiction. I have two posted, but I never find motivation to write more, so don’t count on more fanfic.
